What is Rotaract ?
• The Definition :
  Rotaract is a Rotary-sponsored
  service club for young men and
  women ages 18 to 30. Rotaract clubs
  are either community or university
  based, and they’re sponsored by a
  local Rotary club. This makes them
  true "partners in service" and key
  members of the family of Rotary.
What is Rotaract ?
• Rotaract clubs are a part of a global
  effort to bring peace and
  international understanding to the
  world through a framework of
  friendship and service.
• It starts at the community level but
  knows no limits in it’s outreach.
The Origin
• Rotaract started in 1968, though it
  had a history of un-official existence
  since 1960s.
• Rotary clubs started to sponsor
  University youth groups as
  community service projects in 1960s.
• Rotaract, was declared as an official
  program of Rotary in 1968, through a
  framework of friendship and service.
The Origin
• With the Blessings of RI President
  Luther H. Hodges, Rotaract clubs
  were initiated.
• The first Rotaract Club was Rotaract
  Club of North Charlotte, North
  Carolina, USA; chartered on the 13th
  of March 1968.

• The Rotaract Movement has a
  dynamic history and a fast growth
  with 8232 clubs in 170 countries with
  189,336 Rotaractors.
• It is reckoned as one of the fastest
  growing movements having a rate of
  2.24%.

• The origin of the Rotaract in Sri Lanka
  starts with the Rotaract Club of
  Colombo which was inaugurated in
  1969.
• As of 2010 July, there are 43 Rotaract
  Clubs in Sri Lanka with a membership
  base of 1400+ covering all over the
  country.

   • Rotaract clubs organize a variety of
     projects and activities, depending
     primarily on the interests of the club
     members.
   • The basis of all projects would be the
     four main avenues of service.

• ‘Service Above Self’ is Rotary’s
  foremost guiding principle.
• Having the intention of serving the
  community within their reach, these
  projects often address today’s most
  critical issues, such as violence, drug
  abuse, AIDS, hunger, the
  environment, and illiteracy.

Editor's Notes

  • #31 IDEAS2010 is a unique project initiated by the Rotaract Club of the University of Moratuwa that intends to promote problem solving culture among the undergraduates of UoM and the Rotaract community. The project seeks engineering and non engineering problems of small, medium and large companies and connects them with the undergraduates & the Rotaractors.
  • #32 Next Step is a career guidance workshop conducted by the RC of UoP in collaboration with Rotary Club of Kandy. The main intention is to develop the etiquettes and professional skills of the undergraduates to groom them to be a better personality.
