2. What is the first
thing that comes to
your mind when you
hear the word
“loyalty”?
3. Loyalty
• Loyalty is the trait of faithfulness, devotion, or commitment to a person,
group, nation, or cause. You are loyal when you tell someone that he can
count on you no matter what.
• Loyalty is a vital ingredient in relationships, because without it, there can
be no trust.
• This is true for family life, friendship, business, love, marriage, and even in
your relationship to God.
5. “Loyalty,” wrote Leah Anson of Lee’s Summit High School, is
one of the top three things that I look for in a friend,
because a loyal friend can be trusted.”
• Dictionary defines loyalty as “faithfulness, constancy, allegiance.”
• It means standing by a person through good times and bad.
• It means caring for a person’s welfare when you get no benefit from doing
so.
• It means being willing to be identified with the other person, even when it is
not convenient.
6. Loyalty
• Loyalty is not tolerance of wrong doing.
• Loyalty is sometimes called “tough love”.
7. How can you demonstrate loyalty to your loved
ones?
1. Safeguard their reputation. Avoid criticizing or gossiping about them.
2. Celebrate their happy moments. Count their joys as your own instead of
comparing yourself to them and becoming envious.
3. Share their sad moments. Be there when they are disappointed, sick,
grieving, or in disgrace. Sometimes, you don’t need to say or do
anything. Your presence is all comfort they need.
8. How can you demonstrate loyalty to your loved
ones?
4. Tell them what they need to know, even if they won’t like it. Correct them
when they do wrong, instead of allowing them to ruin their lives. They may
get angry with you, but if you are loyal to them, you will take that risk.
5. Never give up on them. Sometimes, no matter how hard you try,
relationships get broken. Being loyal does not mean that you have to stay
beside a person who is hooked on vices, or who is physically or emotionally
abusive. Sometimes, you may need to move away from him or her for both
your sakes.
