Cores are materials used to form hollow cavities and projections that cannot be produced by patterns alone. Cores are generally made of sand and can be used to form any complicated contour or cavity. Cores must be strong enough to withstand the heat and pressure of surrounding molten metal, so core sand requires higher strength than moulding sand. Core prints are also used to support cores inside mould cavities where coring is required.

APPLICATIONS
Some casting of pewter is cast using slush casting method. Using pewter and other metals mainly hollow products are casted. Decorative and ornamental objects that are casted are as vase, bowls, candlesticks, lamps, statues, jewelery, animal miniatures, various collectibles etc. Small objects and components for industry like tankard handle, handles for hollow wares, etc.

A mould is a hollowed-out block that is filled with a liquid like plastic, glass, metal, or ceramic raw materials .The liquid hardens or sets inside the mould, adopting its shape. A mould is the counterpart to a cast.
Mould or Mould cavity contains molten metal and is essentially a negative of the final product.
Mould is obtained by pattern in moulding material (sand).
Mould material should posses refractory characteristics and withstand the pouring temperature.
shell moulding
Shell moulding is a casting process that uses a sand-resin mixture to form a disposable mould around a reusable pattern. This allows for higher production rates than sand casting while also enabling more complex part geometries. The process involves creating a metal pattern, heating it, applying a sand-resin mixture to form shell halves, joining the shells to create the mould, pouring molten metal, and removing the casting after solidification. Shell moulding provides better dimensional accuracy, higher productivity, and lower labor costs than sand casting for small to medium precision parts.
Full Mould Casting Process
Full mould casting is a casting process that uses an expanded polystyrene foam pattern surrounded by sand. Molten metal is poured directly into the mould, vaporizing the foam and allowing the metal to fill the entire mould cavity. This process is similar to lost wax casting but uses a thermally decomposable foam pattern instead of wax. The foam pattern can be designed using computer tools before the casting process. Some advantages are it is cheaper than investment casting, requires no drafts or risers, and has good dimensional accuracy and surface finish.

- The casting process has five main stages: pattern making, molding and core making, melting and casting, fettling, and testing and inspection.
- Foundries can be classified by type (jobbing, production, etc.) or materials produced (ferrous, non-ferrous). Patterns come in various types like split patterns, gated patterns, and are made from materials like wood, metal, plastic to suit different production needs.
Methods of gear manufacturing
Methods of gear manufacturing include casting, hot rolling, stamping, powder metallurgy, extruding, coining, and machining. Machining involves the formed tooth process, template process, and cutter generating process. The formed tooth process machines gears using cutters shaped to the tooth profile and includes milling, broaching, and shaping. The template process guides a cutting tool using a template. The generating process produces gear teeth through relative motion between a gear blank and cutter, as in hobbing and planning. Hobbing is continuous, indexing process that cuts multiple teeth simultaneously.

A mould is a hollowed-out block that is filled with a liquid like plastic, glass, metal, or ceramic raw materials .The liquid hardens or sets inside the mould, adopting its shape. A mould is the counterpart to a cast.
Mould or Mould cavity contains molten metal and is essentially a negative of the final product.
Mould is obtained by pattern in moulding material (sand).
Mould material should posses refractory characteristics and withstand the pouring temperature.

shell moulding
Shell moulding is a casting process that uses a sand-resin mixture to form a disposable mould around a reusable pattern. This allows for higher production rates than sand casting while also enabling more complex part geometries. The process involves creating a metal pattern, heating it, applying a sand-resin mixture to form shell halves, joining the shells to create the mould, pouring molten metal, and removing the casting after solidification. Shell moulding provides better dimensional accuracy, higher productivity, and lower labor costs than sand casting for small to medium precision parts.
Full Mould Casting Process
Full mould casting is a casting process that uses an expanded polystyrene foam pattern surrounded by sand. Molten metal is poured directly into the mould, vaporizing the foam and allowing the metal to fill the entire mould cavity. This process is similar to lost wax casting but uses a thermally decomposable foam pattern instead of wax. The foam pattern can be designed using computer tools before the casting process. Some advantages are it is cheaper than investment casting, requires no drafts or risers, and has good dimensional accuracy and surface finish.
Fettling in casting
Fettling is the process of preparing castings for use by removing unwanted material like gates, risers, fins, and imperfections. It involves several steps and techniques. First, dry sand cores are knocked out and gates and risers are removed through chipping, cutting, sawing, or abrasive machining depending on the material. Then fins and other projections on the casting surface are chipped off. Finally, the casting is cleaned through tumbling, shot blasting, or other modern blasting processes to produce a smooth, finished part meeting specifications. Fettling transforms crude castings into functional, high quality components through various removal and cleaning operations.

Forging & Press Working
This document provides an overview of forging and press working processes. Press working involves shaping sheet metal between dies in a press machine. Common press working operations include cutting via blanking, punching and forming through bending and drawing.
Cupola furnaca
Cupola furnace is a cylindrical furnace used in foundries for melting iron. It has a refractory lined interior and is charged from the top with coke, scrap iron, and flux materials. Hot gases from the combustion of coke pass up through the charge, preheating and melting it layer by layer from the bottom up. Molten iron drains from the bottom of the furnace through a tap hole, while slag is removed through a separate slag hole. Cupola furnaces can melt up to 100 tons of iron per hour and provide economical, high throughput melting due to the efficient use of coke fuel. However, composition control of the final iron product can be challenging.

Core and its Properties
- 3. Core are the materials used for making cavities and hollow projections which can not normally be produced by pattern alone. Any complicated contour or cavity can be made by means of core.
- 5. Cores are generally made of sand and even used in permanent mould. In general , cores are surrounded on all the sides by molten metal and therefore subjected to much more severe thermal and mechanical conditions and as a result core sand should be of higher strength than moulding sand.
- 7. CORE PRINTS
- 8. In case of casting where coring is required,provision should be made to support the core inside the mould cavity. One of the methods that is universally followed is to provide core prints where possible.
