CONTINENTAL DRIFT
CLASS: L
BY: YALIZET A. S.
What Is The theory of continental drif?
 Continental drift is the movement of the Earth's, thus
appearing to "drift" across the ocean bed…
 The plates are moving at a speed that has been estimated at
1 to 10 cm per year. Most of the Earth's seismic activity
(volcanoes and earthquakes) occurs at the plate boundaries
as they interact.
 The top layers of the plates are called the crust.
Who thought of this theory and when?
Continental drift was a theory that
explained how continents shift position on
Earth's surface. Set forth in 1912 by
Alfred Wegener, a geophysicist and
meteorologist.

What is pangaea?
 Pangea was a supercontinent that existed
during the late Paleozoic and early Mesozoic
eras. It formed approximately 300 million years
ago and then began to break apart after about
100 million years.
