An oceanic-oceanic transform boundary caused an earthquake on March 11, 2011 that generated a tsunami. Transform boundaries occur where two tectonic plates slide horizontally past one another under the ocean, and the movement of crust along this fault on that date triggered an earthquake which then formed a destructive tsunami.
