Conflict is defined as occurring when one party negatively affects something important to another party. There are two types of conflict: functional conflict which improves group performance, and dysfunctional conflict which hinders it. The conflict process has five stages: potential opposition, cognition and personalization, intentions, behavior, and outcomes. Negotiation is the process of exchanging goods or services to agree on exchange rates. There are two approaches to negotiation: distributive which seeks to divide a fixed amount and is win-lose, and integrative which seeks to create a win-win solution by expanding resources available.
