This document discusses using an educational intervention at AU to teach students how to create and curate information. It proposes using an online platform called Landing to facilitate social and situated learning. Landing allows for serendipitous and intentional learning outside formal course structures. The intervention would provide opportunities for peer-to-peer and student-professional connections through shared artifacts and networking. A leadership model is needed to promote this initiative that is emergent, dynamic, self-organizing, and collaborative. Complexity leadership theory suggests leadership can emerge from all participants. This intervention could increase social capital among students and within the larger community by facilitating information sharing and network formation.

Today s learners need to be well-prepared for the complex demands of ever-fluctuating, international business environments. To help students contend with this rapid pace of change, our institutions of higher education need to equip them with the necessary knowledge and skills to ensure their success. But how to achieve this when what we teach learners today can easily change and even be irrelevant tomorrow? Heutagogy provides meaningful, pedagogical guidance for navigating a shifting higher education landscape, as well as a rapidly evolving technological one. This keynote will discuss the barriers that have kept us from implementing heutagogy within higher education in the past and the more recent developments that are causing those barriers to slowly begin slipping away. We will also consider why it is necessary for higher education to adopt forms heutagogical practice in order to prepare students for lifelong learning and the web 2.0 and social media that help us do just that.
Organizations implementing knowledge strategies generally go through five stages: pre-implementation, implementation, reinvigoration, inculcation, and holistic. This presentation details steps ADB took in 2008–2011 to initiate, develop, standardize, optimize, and innovate knowledge management and learning.
As the proliferation of digital technologies and access to information continues to invite different ways of thinking, learning today is influenced by the ever-evolving, interconnected complex systems. While these systems have the potential to expand the ecologies of teaching and learning, many students and teachers have yet to tap into their richness. This session explores how connectivism and networked learning might be used to enhance the teaching and learning of first-year writing. I seek to demonstrate how personal technology, Open Educational Resources, and cloud-based computing could be integrated into the curriculum to cultivate interactive, self-directed learning. I will also consider the teacher’s role in facilitating the networked learning process, helping students to situate themselves within the complex relationships of technologies and discourse communities. I hope this creates an open forum to discuss the embedded rhetorics in technology, as well as to explore methodologies for research in the realm of connectivism.

In this session, we walk through the Amazon VPC network presentation and describe the problems we were trying to solve when we created it. Next, we walk through how these problems are traditionally solved, and why those solutions are not scalable, inexpensive, or secure enough for AWS. Finally, we provide an overview of the solution that we've implemented and discuss some of the unique mechanisms that we use to ensure customer isolation, get packets into and out of the network, and support new features like VPC endpoints.

Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
