There are three types of conditional sentences:
1. Pattern A sentences use present tense verbs and are for probable conditions ("if it rains tomorrow, we shall cancel the picnic").
2. Pattern B sentences use past tense verbs and are for improbable conditions ("if it rained tomorrow, we should stay at home").
3. Pattern C sentences use past perfect tense verbs and are for imaginary conditions ("if it had rained yesterday, I would have stayed at home").
