Racial Autobiography Essay
Racial Autobiography To start off, both of my parents are white Americans. My father s great
grandparents came to america from czechoslovakia in the late 1800 s and same for my mothers
German great grandparents. Born and raised in primarily white small towns, my parents are
your stereotypical middle class white americans. About 10 years into their relationship when my
mom first got pregnant with my oldest brother Dalton (23), they bought a 3 story house that was
right outside of a suburban neighborhood on the outskirts of Anoka, Mn. The nearest gas
station was about a 8 minute drive, and the nearest restaurant was 10. They had 3 boys together,
and took in my oldest cousin Chey when she was 10 because my aunt had passed. I grew up with
3 white older siblings. The first time I can remember acknowledging someone as being different
from me was when my sister (cousin) Chey brought over 2 of her friends that she called The
Russians . I didn t really know what she meant by that other than the fact that we weren t
Russian. They were older boys, and when they would come into my room I was excited because
being the youngest, I didn t really get to hang out with the older guys much. In hindsight I realize
they were just bored and wanted something to do, but in my eyes at the time, these guys could
potentially be my friends. So they came in a introduced themselves to me and were all over the
place. They went from checking out my toys, to my sound system, to my tv just playing with

How Did Louis Zamperini Get In Trouble
Louis Zamperini Louis Zamperini s story is about a child of immigrants who was in trouble
more often than not. He would get into fights, he had a good taste for alcohol and was
constantly being chased down by the police. Back in the days of Great Depression, Louis was
practically on his own, fighting for himself. Louis was in and out of trouble until one day a
policeman recommended Louie use his speed for good and not evil. After working hard to
become the fastest he could possibly be, at 18 he was selected for the Olympic Team in 1936.
After he competed in the Olympics, Zamperini decided to lay low and do little to nothing

Bitter Taste Lab
The PTC gene or TAS2R28, the bitter receptor gene, is a single gene that codes for specific
tastes on the tongue and was found in 2003 by Kim (Emerson). One form of the gene represents
a tasting allele, while the other is a non tasting allele; each of these alleles code for a receptor
inside the cell, but the shape of receptor varies depending on which allele is present. The shape is
an important indication of how strongly the PTC can bind. It is located on chromosome 7
(Emerson). The PTC geneis not an all or nothing gene; some have very strong bitter sensitivity,
some have slight sensitivity, and others have no bitter taste at all ( PTC The Geneticsof Bitter Taste.

Spread Of Violence
How Society Should Protect Itself Against Violence.
There are many theoretical ways in which society can protect itself against violence, ranging from
more violence to kindness. But, the best way a society can protect itself from violence is by
limiting the spread of violence. There are multiple ways to limit or stop the spread of violence. One
way is to not be hostile to violent people, stopping the amount of violence. A second is to limit
the amount of people doing a violent act. Lastly, to remove the original source of violence. By
stopping or decreasing the spread of violence, a society can be protected. The first way to limit
violence is through the idea of non complementary behavior. There is a pattern of human behavior,

Violence is spreadable according to Gary Slutkin in a talk named Let s Treat Violence Like a
Contagious Disease. In his talk, he discusses the idea that violence is something that can be
passed on from person to person, that being raised in a violent situation or being shown violence
can make a person in turn, violent. He suggests that the way to limit this spread of violence is to
first, remove the person who began the violence. In removing that person, they are no longer
spreading around violence. Secondly, prevent the spread further by helping those who were
exposed to violence to not turn to violence themselves. Lastly, he claims that shifting the group
norms from violence to something not aggressive will result in a decrease in violence. According
to Dr. Gary Slutkin, violence can be stopped by limiting the spread as if it is something

ABSTRACT
The purpose of this paper is to document the genetic disease hypertrichosis. Using articles, and web
sources we will outline the history, genetic basis, and different treatments of this genetic disease.
Hypertrichosis literal meaning is excess of hair growth. The elemental genetic defect remains
unknown because there are many factors at work. There is a debate if hypertrichosis is an
autosomal or X linked disease, since there have been documented cases of both. However, there are
certain chromosomal defects that have proven to be present in many patients. Certain diseases and
environmental triggers are known to be associated with hypertrichosis. Although this disease is
nonfatal, it can be embarrassing and unpleasant for the patient. Excess hair can manifest itself on
the hands, face, and body. There are few treatments aside from cosmetic procedures. There remains
no known cure for hypertrichosis.
HISTORY OF HYPERTRICHOSIS
Hypertrichosis is a unique and rare disease of its time, exemplifying characteristics of having
excessive hair growth covering the entire body. Very little is known about this hypertrichosis
because of how scarce it is. The manifestation, and genetic causes vary when it comes to this
disease as well. These factors as well as others have made this

Informative Essay On Pablo Escobar
Pablo Escobar was born at Rionegro, Columbia on December 1, 1949. He was brought up from a
good working class family in Medellin, Columbia. Although, he wasn t very wealthy. His
mother was an elementary school teacher and his father was a farmer. The outage that he saw
how he could escape from the working class was by distributing and selling cocaine. Not only
was he a Columbian drug trafficker and drug lord, but he was also a narco terrorist. He was one
of the most ruthless person to ever live. On March 22, 2017, two retired U.S agents came to
Laredo Community College to have a presentation about Pablo Escobar. The two agent s names are

That is something that I do believe, the producers for the Netflix show may have left out some
true things that may have happened. I personally do admire and respect the people that were on
the hunt for Pablo Escobar. It was a dangerous mission, that they could have been killed any day.
Thankfully they didn t. It was so unbelievable on how much money Pablo was making in a year,
especially in a MONTH! They presented pictures on how much cocaine was found in one
laboratory, out of hundreds of them. The labs is where they would pack the cocaine in plastic
bags. Also, the ways on how they would smuggle the cocaine were unbelievable. Who would
have ever thought of looking in a fruit for drugs? That was really impressive. The way how he
would have people killed was extremely viscous! People s bodies would be tortured and ripped
apart. I personally would never have the heart to do that to anyone, even if I did not like them.
Pablo was a man with no compassion and remorse. Then Pablo was in prison for five years, with

Theme Of Foreshadowing In A Doll House
A Doll House by Henrik Ibsen, is a play that follows Nora Helmer and her husband Torvald
Helmer through the holiday season and the fall of their marriage. Within the two acts there are
many figurative language devices used to help further the story along, however, there are a few
in specific that stand out. The play s foreshadowing, symbolism, and irony all contribute the
most to the play s overall development of Nora s self affirmation. Foreshadowing in A Doll
House is present from the beginning of the story. Much of which is not noticeable until later
events. In the beginning of Act 1 Nora hides her macaroons from Torvald, HELMER: Hasn t
Miss Sweet Tooth been breaking rules in town today? ... taken a bite at a macaroon or two?
NORA: No, Torvald. (Ibsen, 1657). Although it is minor in nature, it reveals Nora s character of
being rebellious despite Torvald s wishes. The effect this characterization has on the story is that
she is not the obeying wife that many were in the Victorian Era. Through this foreshadowing the
reader can begin to identify the conflicts of Nora and Torvald s relationship that get developed on
as the play progresses. Another example of foreshadowing is in Act 2 when Nora is getting
ready to leave out to town, when she engages in a conversation with Anne Marie about the
children asking, Do they ask for me much? . To which Anne Marie responds, They re so used to
having Mama around, you know. . This is important because Nora replies with, Yes, but Anne
Marie, I can t be together with them as much as I was. (Ibsen, 1675). This hints towards Nora
abandoning her role as a mother, which in the end occurs when she leaves Torvald to find herself
and become independent. The foreshadowing throughout the play contributed to the dramatic
ending. Symbolism in A Doll House is another key element in the development of the play. The
setting of the play was during Christmas Eve throughout December 26th. Typically, this is the
ending of the year and represents family being together. However, as the play progresses, the
optimistic outlook on Christmas that is expected changes. In the opening description of the setting
in Act 1 Nora tells Helene, Hide the tree well... The children mustn t get a

Metaphors As A Metaphor
Morgan s metaphors personified: Auto bot a new way of understanding and theorizing about the
organizations Theories are built from abstractions known as concepts. Metaphors have long been in
use to describe organizations and development of organizational theory. In order to understand
abstract concepts, it is of fundamental importance to know how metaphor works. Different scholars
within the field of organizational research have acknowledged this (e.g. Morgan 1980; Weick 1989;
Cornelissen 2005; Putman Boys 2006). Within the field of linguistics, probably no phenomenon has
been as well researched as metaphor (Steen 2007). Research shows that for language users, it is
inevitable to use metaphor when dealing with abstract concepts. Metaphors therefore play a key
role in the construction of reality (Lakoff Johnson 1999). Use of metaphors always has limitations
which are mentioned by Gareth Morgan the Author of the famous classic book on organizational
theory, images of organization . While introducing the famous eight metaphors used for developing
organizational theories he mentions that metaphors help explain, but they also distort. They have...

The Three Political Parties In America
A political party is an organization that sponsors candidates for public office under the
organization s name. A political party platform is a formal set of principal goals which are
supported by a political party or individual candidate. Typically, platforms of candidates within
their parties are consistent. This is partially because of voter s tendency to vote with their party,
and partially because of expectations of candidates. Three political parties in America are
Republicans, Democrats, and the Green party. Tax reform, environmental issues, welfare and
poverty, and immigration are all issues that different parties view from different angles. Tax reform

Essay about Darwin’s Dangerous Idea
At the beginning of the 1800s, scientists knew of some kinds of fossils, and were very aware of
homologous and vestigial structures. Many scientists suspected that some kind of evolution had
given rise to living things around them. However, they had no theory to explain how evolution
might have occurred. Two scientists led the way in the search for a mechanism of evolution. The
first was Jean Lamarck. The second was one of the greatest figures in biology, Charles Darwin.
What is evolution? Evolution is a change in the traits of living organisms over generations. Since
the development of modern genetics in the 1940s, evolution has been defined more specifically as
a change in the frequency of alleles in a population from one generation... Show more content on

aboard the H.M.S. Beagle on a British science expedition around the world. In South America
Darwin found fossils of extinct animals that were similar to modern species. On the Galapagos
Islands in the Pacific Ocean he noticed many variations among plants and animals of the same
general type as those in South America. The expedition visited places around the world, and Darwin
studied plants and animals everywhere he went, collecting specimens for further study.
Upon his return to London Darwin concluded thorough research of his notes and specimens many
ideas. Out of this study grew several related theories: one, evolution did occur, two, evolutionary
change was gradual, requiring thousands to millions of years, three, the primary mechanism for
evolution was a process called natural selection, and four, the millions of species alive today arose
from a single original life form through a branching process called specialization.
The movie Darwin s Dangerous Idea was based on Darwin s theory of evolution. It

Working Title: Are HBCU s Still Beneficial to Civilians who want to Receive a Higher Education?
Topic Description: For over 200 hundred years, Historically Black Colleges and Universities or
HBCUs have played a very important role role in the education of African Americans. These
schools have provided most of the black college graduates. Many people believe that these
colleges should be shut down because we live in a very diverse nation and these schools represent
racism. These schools have attracted and motivated many young black people, to get a higher
education. By seeing people just like them, with similar upbringings and similar interest making
great achievements, it provides those young black people with a great opportunity to further ...

The negative studies provide little concrete data supporting the removal or explaining the
irrelevance of HBCUs. The reasoning has been more economic and only relying on the fact that
the mission has been to educate Black students, and because non Black institutions are now
accepting students of color, then HBCUs are no longer needed. For the positive aspects, the
majority of the studies mention some statistical evidence of the number of HBCU graduates each
year, some of the progress certain HBCUs are making in their states to improve society, as well as
the economic benefits of costing less than many traditional institutions. While HBCUs are trying to
show the public how they are progressing, it is rare to hear the leaders or administrators of HBCUs
discuss how these universities have progressed since their inception and how students can benefit

My Agency Mission At 8 Queen Street East
The name of my agency is Acces Employment, located at 8 Queen Street East
Brampton, ON

and fax number is 905 454 5171. My agency mission is assisted anyone seeking for a job from
different backgrounds. Assisting will help job seekers prepared to enter into the Canadian job
market. What this mean is that, new Canadians sometimes find it hard to adapt to life in Canada
due to their limited social networks, lack of Canadian experience and credentials, as well as the
country s uncertain and slowly recovering economy and complex job market. This is mostly what
a certain person faces when migrating from other countries into Canada. Not only are new
Canadians finding it harder to find positions on par with their education and experience, but it s
also taking them longer to reach the same employment and income levels as their Canadian born
counterparts, which many clients encounter at this stage. Therefore, my agency mission is to look
for a better way to merge job seekers from different background. They achieve this by supplying
them with employment services, which is connecting employers with trained and skilled people.
Not only connecting employers with skilled people, but also building strong an arrangement of

Integrated Healthcare System Analysis
Briefing Paper 4:
Eric Lombardi Lopes More and more integrated hospitals and other providers are becoming
prevalent in our community; two large systems in the Dallas Fort Worth area are Texas Health
Resources and the Baylor Scott White systems. What exactly are these integrated hospital systems?
An integrated healthcare system is one that through official agreements or ownership sets up a
horizontal and vertical line of healthcare facilities and services to better deliver seamless healthcare
to patients. An example to use is Texas Health Resources since its found in most corners of the
Metroplex. With any large corporation and system comes confusion and other problems: such as
regulatory obstacles, the complexity of operations, and unclear financial ownerships. Integrated
healthcare systems appear at face value to be the solution to curbing the ... Show more content on

Horizontal integrations mean that all services, facilities, and other patient care needs are acquired
and merged into the integrated system. An example would be a general hospital acquiring or
partnering with other specialized sources of healthcare such as, outpatient facilities, pharmacies,
specialty offices, oncology centers, and diagnostic labs and services. A vertical integration means
to apply factors that do not directly affect patient care, such as medical supplies and drugs,
insurance, financial services, emergency services such as ambulances, and administration
responsibilities. A system that can implement both can afford to provide lower cost care while
maintaining quality, if the system gets to large enough it can also help curb the availability of
care. In the Dallas Fort Worth area one can see a growth in Texas Health Resources or THR, they
own several large general hospitals, along with free standing ERs, sports medicine offices, a heart
hospital, and many other facilities in the

Bone Disease from Dyshondroplasia to Osteogenesis...
There are numerous types of bone diseases in the world, however there are some that are
considered to be rare. From Dyshondroplasia to Osteogenesis Imperfecta, these rare diseases have
signs and symptoms that make them completely different from any other diseases. Bone diseases
are special in a sense that they must be treated carefully to prevent the patient from undergoing too
much pain. While some bone diseases, such as osteomalacia, are found more in the elder; there are
some that are most commonly seen in children. Ricketsis an example of this, which is why it may
be looked upon as an osteomalacia of the young. Although these two may seem to be similar, there
are certain qualities that make them differ from eachother. Osteomalacia... Show more content on

Homeostasis is a natural balance of our body, and without a good amount of calcium, we lose some
of that balance. The Calcium in the bones is what keeps them strong, without it they tend to
become soft and weak. There are numerous places where people can get their vitamin D, one of the
most commonly known is from exposure to the sun. while too much sun can lead to damaginf
effects on the skin, it is still extremely important to get a decent amount of exposure. Those who
are unable to get an appropriate amount of exposure, for example: modest women who are
unallowed to show much skin, can find vitamin D from different sources. Other sources include
fish such as salmon, fortified milk, and cod liver oil (Holick,2005). If people make a greater effort
to have a diet that includes this vitamin, they are gauranteed to build stronger bones. Anyone can
get nutritional rickets, however some mothers may question the reason behind why their new born
child develops it at such a young age. It all stems back to the mother. It is common for
breastfeeding mothers who have low vitamin D supplementation to pass it onto their kids. So when
should mothers be aware of whether or not they should be breastfeeding their newborn? Some
mothers may lack vitamin D because of lack of exposure to sunlight, they may fear the risk of
getting skin cancer(Wharton,2003). These women should work vitamin D into their diet by the
different means listed in

Salinger Emotions
The Emotions of Fiction Characters Salinger s childhood has no episodes that would give
Salinger a reason to push his Characters over the line. When he was an adult, he was drafted

Usually when a writer pushes his/her character over the edge it comes from their past. Even
though Salinger spent time in World War II. However, this did not seem to faze his writing in the
slightest. It was while in Germany that Salinger meets a man who influenced him, this man was
Ernest Hemingway. Just like with Hemingway Salinger uses war as a background setting for all

How To Prevent Zika Disease
Preventing an outbreak of Zika in Mississippi Throughout the Caribbean, Central, and South

developing countries. Thousands of babies have been born with a birth defect known as
microencephaly. This birth defect can cause horrible problems such as seizures, mental retardation,
developmental delays, short stature and difficulties with coordination and balance. (Centers for

What are the prevention techniques our state is investing in? What can we do to try and prevent
ourselves and our families from getting Zika? The CDC is currently tracking the spread of the
Zika virus throughout the world and teaching local healthcare providers how to detect case of
the Zika virus. They are also providing support for local hospital laboratories to provide testing
if the hospital cannot provide it and preforming confirmatory testing for those labs that do
provide that type of testing. The CDC is also doing research on the link between Zika virus and
the birth defects that it causes. They also educate people about the Zika virus and issue travel
warnings on the place that have outbreaks. CDC is also recommending that all men that travel to
countries with travel warnings to practice safe sex for a while after returning from those trips
because it is suspected that Zika can be passed through semen. President Obama signed a release
of emergency funds that has provided $1.8 billion dollars to help accelerate research into a
vaccine for Zika. (USA Today 2016) Another method that is being tried in countries like Brazil is
the release of genetically modified male mosquitoes. These male mosquitoes have genetically
modified genes that will cause their offspring to die quickly so that they will never reach maturity
and since male mosquitoes do not bite they cannot spread disease. The biotech company Oxitec
which is behind this concept, has stated that it can reduce populations by 80%. (Stein 2016) This
has been deemed a safe method of mosquito reduction by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
(Stein 2016) This method is controversial but it does reduce the overall amount of pesticide that is
used to control the mosquitoes. Another method that is being used is the use of biological warfare

recommend that a strategy is developed that targets the 25 to 35 year old age groups. This age
group had a low amount of purchases during this time frame. For this age group, I would
recommend a strategy that advertise on social media sites and possibly have a popular young star
become a sponsor of the product. Another age group with low sales is the 65 to 77 year group.
This group has the least amount of sales and depending on the product a combination of television

My Lai Massacre Analysis
METONYMY I used to date a girl whose biggest fear was human fragility. The details of it, I
mean, terrified her. The idea that bones can break, and fingers can be cut off, and noses can
bleed. Tendons, especially. She found tendons disgusting. Hated the idea of them, because she
couldn t imagine a tendon without imagining it snapping like a sinewy rubber band. I don t
know why she never expressed the same aversion to ligaments, but she probably had it, if I d
brought it up. I never could bring it up, though, because if I made any mention of violence of
any kind, she looked like she was going to throw up, and sometimes she did. So, in addition to
not being able to discuss certain aspects of the news (she never knew and never wanted to know
the details of the night Trayvon Martin died, for example,) we also couldn t watch certain movies.
After a year or so of living with her, I d taken to checking movie review sites made for Christian

five children to Sarah Mittenthal, his mother and Harris Copland, his father. He had two
brothers, Ralph and Leon and two sisters Laurine and Josephine. As early as the age of nine, he
began making up songs on the piano and two years later, his older sister Laurine began giving
him piano lessons. In 1914, Copland began studying with his first professional piano teacher,
Ludwig Wolfsohn in Brooklyn, New York. His first public performance as a pianist was in 1917,
one year before his graduation from high school in Brooklyn. Upon it s grand opening in 1921,

Aaron Copland died on December 2nd 1990 in North Tarrytown, New York at the age of ninety.
Without question his most famous work is his Pulitzer Prize winning Appalachian Spring with
which he received the prestigious award in 1945. Commissioned by American dancer and
choreographer Martha Graham in 1943, Copland finished the work a year later while teaching at
Harvard. The song had a traditional American sound much like his previous works, Quiet City
and Billy the Kid and won immediate success with audiences when it debuted in Washington,
D.C. on October 30, 1944. The material of the piece is largely folk and even incorporates an old
shaker song called Simple Gifts by Elder Joseph Brackett written in 1848. One song, a patriotic
piece called A Lincoln Portrait was written at the beginning of World War II after Copland was
commissioned to write a musical portrait of an eminent American political figure. He quoted
original folk songs of the time such as the well known Camptown Races and also included material
from letters and speeches Lincoln had given.
When looking at the characteristics of his work, Copland could most likely be described as an
experimentalist. He often enjoyed mixing various stylistic ideas of Jazz and Mexican dance
rhythms into his music and did not shy away from including these styles into his film scores and

Paintball In The Wild Gary Soto Analysis

Gary Soto Gary Soto is an author of many novels, short stories, and poetry. He was born and raised
in the U.S. by his Mexican American family. In his writings, he creates characters and settings
influenced or surrounded by cultures and ideas similar to those he grew up and lived with. He
includes common characteristics of the Mexican American people that he became familiar with

Soto is the poet of the Chicano experience, but his view of that people is not hopeful. He shows
their condition to be one of hard work with few rewards. (Sullivan). Most Mexican Americans
had laborious jobs. Soto s father and grandfather both worked blue collar jobs and he thought he
would be doomed to the same life. In one of his essays, Gary Soto writes that as a child, he had
imagined he would marry Mexican poor, work Mexican hours, and in the end die a Mexican
death, broke and in despair. (Lee). Here he describes Mexican life as an undesirable one. The
despair he came to know as a child shows up a lot in his work as seen in his short story Sorry,
Wrong Family . The main character, Carolina finds the world an unpleasant place to live. The
world, she realized, was a sad place when from a few feet away trash could fool someone who
walked in beauty. (Soto 41). This line from the story describes the moment where after asking
for help she receives a small amount of hope, but puts herself back down rather quickly. Soto s
view of these people comes from his own experiences. Recently, Soto attended his junior high
school reunion, and he was disheartened to learn how many of his childhood friends had ended
up in prison or been killed. (Lee). The world he grew up in painted the Chicano life as a lesser one.

Milestones Of Normative Development
Normative development is viewed as events within a children s development that correlate
towards the matching ages, ability or skills known as the milestones approach (Cherry, K
(2017)). Within a child s average development these skills are categorised under four main
subtopics 1) Physical Development that includes the large motor skills used for tasks such
sitting, walking, and crawling. As well as the fine motor skills that are precise movements such
as grasping and picking up smaller objects. 2) Cognitive Milestones that are based around the
idea of problem solving; such as being able to learn and understand the alphabet as well as
learning how to react to different situations including the correlation that may be linked to
changing facial expression. 3) Social and Emotional development is centred on the basis of being
able to gain a better understanding of personal emotions and those of others. Social milestones
also help to explain a child s interactions with others such as learning to play. Finally, 4)
Communication milestones that involve non verbal and verbal communication skills (Cherry, K
(2017)) Within regards to the following essay, the basic understanding of the four crucial
milestones will help to gain a better insight when comparing normative development to a child
who fits outside of the expected average in regards to their Biological, Psychological and Social

Cultural Commodification InThey Are Taking Our Culture Away
Abstract They Are Taking our Culture Away by Elisabeth Kirtsoglou and Dimitrios
Theodossopoulos discusses the Garifuna community and their struggle with cultural
commodification and how their community handles and tries to fix it. Throughout They are Taking
our Culture Away Elisabeth and Dimitrios looked at the many ways the Garifuna are being
commodified. Within this paper what they researched will also be discussed and also what can be
done to help preserve this culture. Commodification as a broad topic will play a large role in this
paper, and whether or not culture is a commodity that should be bought and sold. Commodification
will also be talked about in terms with what role it plays in a culture and the affects that it has on
modern tourism and the tourist s outlook on the world and other cultures.
Commodification
Commodification is defined as a way to make something into an object for commercial use . In
terms of culture and tourism, commodification refers to using a place s culture and the cultural
artifacts to make a large enough profit to support part of the area s economy . Commodification is
found everywhere in modern tourism. Although there may be good things about cultural
commodification, such as profit, there are many more bad aspects to it. For example,
commodification alters a tourists potentiality to have an authentic experience while visiting another
culture. This then introduces the tourist to a false culture and strays them away from the

Space Junk Epidemic
Space Junk Today, speeding past our Earth ten times faster than a bullet (tweentribune), are
millions of pieces of space junk ranging in size from flecks of paint to entire Satellites (NASA).
To most people this does not sound like much of a problem, but even a fleck of paint moving
17,500 miles per hour or more can cause significant damage to spacecraft and space walkers
alike. As more collisions take place and as new items enter the atmosphere the statistical
probability of a collision will increase. Eventually, the probability of a collision will become so
high that it will be unsafe to enter space from Earth (NASA). Now, as discussion of colonizing Mars
intensifies, space junk has a new way of spreading and clogging up more of the universe. When
humans colonize Mars they will... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As of December 2015 there were 1071 operational satellites around the Earth and over 21.000
objects larger than 10cm hurtling around the planet (Universetoday). In 2013 there were 81 space
launches and in 2014 that number increased to 92 space launches. 2014 had the highest number of
space launches in a year in more than two decades (spaceflightnow). If those on Mars could cut
back on the number of Satellites they put up they would have a significantly lower statistical
probability of collisions. This would make long term space use possible.
Another important anti space junk component is banishing pieces of rockets that fall off, like
solid rocket boosters on the Space Shuttle (Space.com). These large chunks of debris would cause
extreme amounts of damage. If a fleck of paint can harm satellites and space suits then a 177 foot
long, 12 foot diameter, 1.6 million pound Solid Rocket Booster would be cataclysmic. If various
space organizations can reduce the number of rocket stages they use, they can dramatically reduce
the amount of large space junk orbiting the Red

Annotated Bibliography On Nuclear Weapons
United States[edit]
Main articles: Nuclear weapons and the United States and United States and weapons of mass
destruction
The United States developed the first atomic weapons, during World War II in cooperation with the
United Kingdom and Canada as part of the Manhattan Project, out of the fear that Nazi Germany
would develop them first. It tested the first nuclear weapon in 1945 ( Trinity ), and remains the only
country to have used nuclear weapons against an enemy state in warfare, devastating the
Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It was the first nation to develop the hydrogen
bomb, testing an experimental prototype in 1952 ( Ivy Mike ) and a deployable weapon in 1954
( Castle Bravo ). Throughout the Cold War it continued to modernize and enlarge its nuclear
arsenal, but from 1992 on has been involved primarily in a program of Stockpile

Apple Stereotyping
In Steven Levy s article The new iPods: Random sampling or not?, he postulates that Apple s
mechanism for shuffling songs is not entirely random. Apple popularized its shuffle feature in
2004 with the slogan Life is Random. However, Levy finds this difficult to believe. He
consistently gets songs by Steely Dan and nothing by Aretha Franklin, despite the supposed

Ultimately, the problem is because of Apple s coding, user error, or due to random sampling error.

effectiveness of this process is dependant upon the code that Apple uses. If there is any bias

throughout the vacation. The property had a two story white house with a big red barn behind
it and the baseball field in the front of the house. We were not allowed to go inside of the house,
but we were allowed to look around the property and go onto the field. My father, brother, and I
played catch on the field for a while and then headed over to the big red barn where they sold
souvenirs. After purchasing our souvenirs, we all got back into the minivan and headed to our next

Arranged Marriage By Sanjay Kali
Did you know, in some cultures such as India, Korea, and Orthodox Jews allow arranged
marriages? Arranged marriage is when two families agree to marry their kids, usually without
the child s consent. In the article Arranged Marriage by Sanjay Kali, it talks about the positive
and negative things about arranged marriages. I strongly believe that arranged marriages are a
negative idea since the majority of arranged marriages never end well. In arranged marriages there
are many negative things. Such as making the decision to marry someone who you have only met,
and is a complete stranger to you. Another negative thing is not knowing much about the person,
such as what their dislikes and likes are. Sanjay Kali said There is no work involved

The Penelopiad Analysis
To be able to answer the question How does Margaret Atwood re arrange Homer and why? , one
must first look at how Atwood perceived the characters and writings that Homer created in his
novel The Odyssey .
In an interview, Atwood explained her beliefs on the gender roles surround The Odyssey thus
incorporating this as well as other materials into The Penelopiad by stating: There is an argument
that has been made quite thoroughly that The Iliad and The Odyssey were written by two different
people, and that the person who wrote The Odyssey was a woman.
Atwood then carries on to explain her argument stating how several people have made the
argument of how The Odyssey was written by a woman, as well as pointing out that it is ... Show

This then raises the two questions: What led to the hanging of the maids, and what was Penelope
really up to?
Both questions Atwood then elaborates on within the tale of The Penelopiad .
One can therefore see how one can then construe Atwood s work as a reply to The Odyssey ,
focusing on a character who, as a woman in Ancient Greece, was by definition banned from any
sort of relevant events, as well as being a female character thus exiling her to the margin of an epic.
Atwood points out that in The Odyssey , Odysseus as well as Penelope are written in the third
person, excluding only the part where Odysseus is telling the story of his adventures such as the
one eyed monster, the eating of Apollo s cattle, etcetera.
The novel itself comes across with a style similar to that of Greek drama, with the main crux of
story being told by the main character Penelope, however she is constantly being interrupted by the
twelve maids chorus lines which only serves as commentary and their expression of sorrow.
They make themselves known first in a morbid rope jumping rhyme which chillingly contrasts
playfulness to pain and an innocent childhood game to murder: we danced in air, our bare feet
twitched, it was not fair .
Toward the middle of the rhyme they point out how they were punished for action far less offensive
than the ones committed by Odysseus himself: we did much less, than what you did,

Du Dubois Legacy
William Edward Burghardt Du Bois was one of the most influential figures in civil rights history,
but even outside of civil rights he was a loving and caring man, He started the activist Niagara

become the first person who was African Americanto earn a PhD from Harvard and was a professor
of history, sociology, and economics at Atlanta University. Du Bois made significant contributions

William James, George Palmer, George Santayana, and Albert Bushnell Hart, and was encouraged
to direct his studies toward history and the social sciences. At his Harvard commencement in
1890, he was one of five students selected to deliver an address. Du Bois s speech on Confederate
president Jefferson Davis and the issue of slavery in the United States gained him national
attention, including a prominent review in the Nation. Graduating with a major in philosophy,
Du Bois was accepted into graduate school in political science as Harvard s Henry Bromfield
Rogers Fellow and began work on Civil Rights for African Americans.. After being awarded his
master s degree in 1891, he received a Slater Fund grant, which allowed him to study and travel
overseas from 1892 to 1894. Du Bois studied history, economics, politics, and political economy at
the University of Berlin and completed a thesis on agricultural economics in the American South.
Though DuBois achieved many things through out his long lived life some would argue that he
wasn t successful enough or a good leader because asue he was a man of color. Many believed
that Dubois couldn t possibly be an effective leader because he was black but he actually proved
that wrong through his achievements of graduating from Harvard and Founding the NAACP.

W.E.B. DuBois The Souls of Black Folk Essay
W.E.B. DuBois The Souls of Black Folk
W.E.B. DuBois, in The Souls of Black Folk describes the very poignant image of a veil between
the blacks and the whites in his society. He constructs the concept of a double consciousness,
wherein a black person has two identities as two completely separate individuals, in order to
demonstrate the fallacy of these opinions. J.S. Mill also describes a certain fallacy in his own
freedom of thought, a general conception of individuals that allows them to accept something
similar to DuBois double consciousness and perpetuates the existence of the veil.
DuBois double consciousness is quite simply the twoness of American Negroes. It is this sense of
always looking at one s self through the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As DuBois looks through the veil, he can see a world that he loves, but cannot belong to because it
belongs to the whites. The veil perpetuates the concept of alienation from the world to which he
knows he will never belong. From the other side, whites look through at blacks, and construct their
own opinions of the opposing race, and in doing so, create an opinion that is accepted by blacks
themselves. The distortion created by the veil muddles the world of the whites and also the self
knowledge within each individual on the black side of the veil.
This sort of idea is the same thing that Mill critiques in the early parts of On Liberty. Mill
discusses that few think it necessary to take any precautions against their own fallibility, or
admit the supposition that any opinion, of which they feel very certain, may be one of the
examples of error to which they acknowledge themselves to be liable. (Mill 615). Herein lies the
problem of the whites, as over time they have come to accept their own ideas of the blacks in the
United States without accepting the possibility of their own fallibility. Mill would argue that
dissenting voices need to be heard in order to bring forth the right opinions, but with the veil the
DuBois discusses, this is an impossibility. Mill discusses the infallibility of the the world in
general (Mill 615) that is accepted by individuals living in a particular place.

St. Vincent Narrative
Growing up in suburbia, I struggled to find my place as a first generation American. I did not
appreciate being called African American because it is an inaccurate way of describing my
heritage, but I felt pushy and pretentious if I told people to call me Caribbean American. My dad s
family still lives in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and we visit them every few years, so I had
to confront these issues during my familys last trip to St. Vincent. I liked the idea of living in St.
Vincent because of the entertaining stories that my cousins and aunts told me about the island. It
had been so long since my previous trip to St. Vincent, so I had idealized and unrealistic
expectations of what St. Vincent was like. My aunt had told me that... Show more content on

To begin with, I am afraid of falling off the side of a mountain. Even if the edge is over 100 feet
away, I can still picture myself tripping and accidentally going over the edge. Because of this
fear, I absolutely did not want to go on the hike. I pouted, whined, and did everything I could to
resist the adventure. The hike aside, the car ride to the base of the volcano is terrifying enough
because of the twisty, mountainous roads in addition to left hand side driving. And why was no
else concerned that the volcano might erupt while we were on it? Unfortunately for me (at the
time), my family and I made it to the starting point of the trail. I trudged up the volcano, trailing
behind the rest of my family, and after two terrifying and exhausting hours, we made it to the
summit. It was breathtaking. We were literally in the clouds, we could see Saint Lucia in the
distance, and seeing the steam rolling off the bottom of the crater was unexpectedly exhilarating.
I could never have imagined what a volcano would look like, and I am so grateful that my family
forced me to go I will never miss an opportunity like that just because I do not feel like

Example Of Sociological Perspective
Sociological Perspective and Theories
Ginelle Mendoza
University of Belize The Sociological Perspective
Sociology is determined to be the systematic study of human kind that focuses on the pattern of
behavior. Pattern of behavior can be influences that occurs in a person s life which causes them to
make certain decisions. Sociology gives a better perspective of how to live well in comfort
avoiding being judged, it also helps us to become active participants in our society assisting us to
live in a diverse society. Sociology is important because it teaches us the social world which guides

Simply meaning identifying general social patterns in the behavior of an individual. He also
came up with, seeing the strange in the particular, which is the sociological perspective that
society shapes what we should think and do. In sociology society has its own origins in powerful
social forces. A main contributor to sociology is Emile Durkheim s, his research showed that
society affects even our most personal choices, whether it be what we want to do in life
determining if it is the best for ourselves and the society.
Society affects our personal choices because we are expected to live up to or embrace the norms
of society. Our personal choices might be reflective of what we embrace, however it might not be
what society deems to be ethical. An example that Durkheim focused on was suicide, society mostly
influenced men, mainly Protestants, the rich and unmarried causing them to commit suicide.
Having to live up to society s expectations can cause a lot of pressure on an individual leaving
them no choice to try and escape from the stress finding a solution which might be best to them
causing them to kill

The Importance Of Effective Communication
Effective Communication Effective communication can be a hard skill to develop. Changes in
the way society communicates has made methods of getting a message to a larger audience easier
but it has also hindered the development of active listening skills. Written communication and
effective listening are two areas that I am continually striving to enhance. Effective Listening De
Janasz, Dowd, and Schneider provided multiple factors that contribute to the inability to listen
effectively. I often find it hard to listen in specific situations such as long meetings, individuals
that take a long time to get to the point, subjects that I do not have an interest in. I have tried
different methods to overcome my shortfalls; yet, I never thought about the root causes.
Physiological limitations, I work in a large office and if I am out on the main floor having a
conversation with a team member often my visual cues start taking over. I can see other things
that need my attention and I start feeling as if the conversation needs to be rushed so I can attend
to something else. I have started to sit down and have a conversation with the person I am talking
to rather than walking over to the desk and hovering while we are talking. This is helping me stay
focused on the person, rather than seeing the multitude of situations that are happening around me.
Boredom is another factor I am working to overcome; especially in long meetings. I often find
myself wondering off and

My Personal Definition For School Curriculum Essay
The meaning of the term curriculum is difficult to define. For school, Pratt (in Brady and Kennedy,
2014, p. 3) argues that curriculum can be an organized set of formal educational and training
intentions . For students, Marsh and Wills (in Brady and Kennedy, 2014, p. 3) maintain that
curriculum is an interrelated set of plans and experiences that a student undertakes under the
guidance of the school , while for teachers, the challenge is to develop curricula that will cater for
the needs of all students (Ah Sam Ackland, 2005). There are various meanings attached to the term
curriculum . My personal definition for school curriculum is that schools develop programs of
different study areas basing on the content of the national curriculum document; teachers plan their
teaching basing on the programs; eventually, students experience the curriculum by engaging in
diverse teaching activities. In this essay, I will be discussing The Early Years Learning Framework
(EYLF) in relation to the strategic plan and teaching philosophy of Hampton Park East
Kindergarten. EYLF for Australia guides Early Childhood Educationin Australia today. The aim of
this framework is to support children s learning and development from birth to eight years. The
framework provides a guideline for early childhood educators to foster children s physical and
mental development. Early childhood educators in Australia recognize the importance of family
educationin children s learning and the EYLF

Western Influence On Japanese Art
Japanese art has a rich history stretching back tens of thousands of years. This long history has
been divided into many different periods. The Meiji, Taisho, Showa, and Heisei periods cover the
Modern Era 1868 present of Japanese art. Katsuhika Hokusai, Takahashi Yuichi, and Claude Monet
are all famous artists of modern Japanese art history. Westernization is the term that describes the
influence of the West in Japan. Japonisme refers to the period of time in which European artists
looked to the East in order to emulate its style in their art. The West was very important to modern
Japanese art history because if was influential and influenced by Japan. Before the West, China
imprinted its style on Japanese art as well as culture. In fact, China and Japan have been in contact
for millennia. Both countries had very similar styles of art up until the 1600s when Japan separated

During the Meiji and Taisho periods, the Western influence began to take hold of the country. The
emperor of Japan at this time wanted to protect his country from being colonized so he made sure to
update technology to western standards. This included making railroads a major method of
transportation, opening art schools funded by the government, and separating polytheistic religions
Buddhism for example from art (Japanese Art). At these aforementioned art schools, European
teachers came to teach students about western art. Oil paintings were a major technique adopted by
the Japanese. Originally, the Japanese abandoned their style completely and made Western style
work. However, an American professor at Tokyo Imperial University Ernest Fenollosa and a former
student at said university Okakura Kakuzo helped the Japanese find their culture again. The result
of these events was the Japanese kept their eastern style and subjects of art although they used
western materials like oil paints

The Three Major Arguments For The Existence Of God
Some of the three major arguments for the existence of God are cosmological, ontological, and
teleological arguments. Cosmological argument is the reasoning that the being of the universe is
powerful proof for the existence of a God who made it. There are two main forms of cosmological
argument, the modal and temporal. Modal cosmological argument, also known as the argument
from contingency, recommends that because the world may not have existed, we then need some
clarification of why it does exist. When there is more than one likelihood, something has to decide
which of the possibilities is understood clearly. Therefore the world is contingent, because there
has to be a logical reason for its existence. This form of argument also claims that the only type of
existence that doesn t need any clarification is a being that does not failed to exist such as God.
Temporal cosmological argument, also known as the Kalam argument, contends that all evidence
are that there is a point in life at which the world began to exist, and that this starting must either
have been caused or uncaused. The cosmological argument used by Aquinas declares that since
nothing originates from nothing. Therefore the world must have been brought into reality by
something outside it, which can be called God .
Ontological argument is an argument that is not based on inspection of the universe, but rather on
rationality alone. This type of argument reasons from the study of being or existence (ontology).

Troposphere Refraction Lab
The Troposphere has atoms and molecules which affect the radio waves between the satellite and
the receiver. Due to the amount of gas present in this area group velocity decreases and the Zenith
angle contributes to the troposphere refraction. The lower the zenith angle the more affected is the
tropospheric refraction. Ionosphere and Troposphere has an influence on pseudo range and
Carrier phase measurement because of electrons present in this region that obstruct the signal
waves from the rover to the satellite, (Parker, 2003). Virtual Reference system with the GPSNET
software is able to model these errors and thus the errors are reduced. The Troposphere is non
dispersive for frequencies below 30 GHz, however the Troposphere adds a slight distance to the

remove. The effect on the signals travelling through the Troposphere to a receiver can be different
than that on the signal travelling to the base station, because the Troposphere is not homogeneous.
This can cause the corrections applied at the rover to cause inaccuracies, particularly when working
some distance from the base receiver. Care should therefore be taken to limit the distance between

Influences Of Plato s Republic, Plato, And Marcus Aurelius
A leader is an explorer, cutting a path through the jungle for the rest of his group to follow,
(Team). The goal of a leader should be to set an example, and standard for others. The well
known, Machiavelli, Plato, and Marcus Aurelius have varying opinions of what a leader should
be. Only one view of a leader that I can agree with correlates with the voice of Aurelius most.
Despite this, I must admit that Machiavelli s and Plato s writings of the Prince and Republic
offers a few point that can be validated. The writings of Plato s Republic, Machiavelli s Prince, and
Aurelius s Meditationsall contain a visions of a leader, but the descriptions of Aurelius are more
closely related to what a leader is. There are three impactful minds that affect how people perceive
the essence of a leader, and they are Machiavelli, Plato and Marcus Aurelius. In Plato s Republic,
Plato describes what he believes a leader to possess. He describes a leader to be the person who
understands the forms, and seeks the truth. He calls that person a philosopher king, or a joyful
shepherd of sheep. This man/woman is able to determine what is real and what is not. With this
ability they are able to lead people with a selflessness that cannot be matched by the other two
figures. Moving on to Marcus Aurelius s outlook, the differences show through plainly. Aurelius
begins with the definition of stoicism, which is a Greek philosophy that teaches the development of
self control and fortitude as a means

Essay On American Sign Language
I first learned American Sign Language through a TV show. It was one of the shows that were
trending lately, just like the current Stranger Things and Thirteen Reasons Why. I was a
bandwagoner so I would always watch all the shows that were talked about. Switched At Birth
educated me so much about ASL, deafness, and more. Because of this show, I have wanted to learn
sign language more than ever. More than just learning a language, I wanted to know what
experiences accompany a hearing person beginning to learning ASL but mostly how does a deaf
person feel throughout their day? American Sign Language, or more commonly known as ASL, was
founded more than 200 thousand years ago from different sign languages around the time. ASL,
as suggested by its name, is not a universal sign language. If you were to go to and any other
country, a person might be at a loss when the signs do not match up. Most people assume that
sign language comes from just the hands, but everyday speakers add facial expression and some
movement of their body. ASL requires a hearing person to do things very differently than how they
normally act. For instance, when signing to a deaf or hard of hearing a person, one needs to face...

teacher, Jai, slowly point to each individual person and randomly choose a word for the person to
sign from the whiteboard. After that, we got into groups of two in order to find more about our
partners only through signing. This was very interesting because at the end, Jai made all of us talk
about our partners through signing, which I thought was a very interesting and effective way to

Review Of The Skeleton Key
The Skeleton Key is a movie about belief in the magic centered practice of Hoodoo. The movie
has many themes centered on the power of belief. Magic and rituals were vehicles used many
times during the course of the movie. Throughout the movie, its protagonist, Caroline, transforms
her belief system through a series of events that will be explained in this paper. The movie also
shows how the beliefs and individual approaches to magicand religious practices drive the actions
and interactions of the movie s antagonists, Papa Justify and Mama Cecile, as well as secondary
characters such as Jill, Caroline s roommate.
Caroline, starts out as a non believer of magic. She views the people and culture of New Orleans
through an etic lens. For example, when Caroline first arrived at the gas station prior to reaching
the mansion, she became unnerved by all of the Hoodoo artifacts she saw. She did not understand
their significance at the time but felt uneasy and wanted to leave as soon as possible. She makes
many ethnocentric judgements of the local people and culture. During the course of the film,
Caroline s belief starts to change as she experiences many things that she cannot explain with her
current belief system. Her interpretation of the causal links between these experiences provide her
with the proof that magic works. This explains why Voodoo worked on Caroline towards the latter
part of the film, when her exposure to the culture and artifacts of Hoodoo

  • 2. Racial Autobiography Essay Racial Autobiography To start off, both of my parents are white Americans. My father s great grandparents came to america from czechoslovakia in the late 1800 s and same for my mothers German great grandparents. Born and raised in primarily white small towns, my parents are your stereotypical middle class white americans. About 10 years into their relationship when my mom first got pregnant with my oldest brother Dalton (23), they bought a 3 story house that was right outside of a suburban neighborhood on the outskirts of Anoka, Mn. The nearest gas station was about a 8 minute drive, and the nearest restaurant was 10. They had 3 boys together, and took in my oldest cousin Chey when she was 10 because my aunt had passed. I grew up with 3 white older siblings. The first time I can remember acknowledging someone as being different from me was when my sister (cousin) Chey brought over 2 of her friends that she called The Russians . I didn t really know what she meant by that other than the fact that we weren t Russian. They were older boys, and when they would come into my room I was excited because being the youngest, I didn t really get to hang out with the older guys much. In hindsight I realize they were just bored and wanted something to do, but in my eyes at the time, these guys could potentially be my friends. So they came in a introduced themselves to me and were all over the place. They went from checking out my toys, to my sound system, to my tv just playing with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He would get into fights, he had a good taste for alcohol and was constantly being chased down by the police. Back in the days of Great Depression, Louis was practically on his own, fighting for himself. Louis was in and out of trouble until one day a policeman recommended Louie use his speed for good and not evil. After working hard to become the fastest he could possibly be, at 18 he was selected for the Olympic Team in 1936. • 4. Bitter Taste Lab The PTC gene or TAS2R28, the bitter receptor gene, is a single gene that codes for specific tastes on the tongue and was found in 2003 by Kim (Emerson). One form of the gene represents a tasting allele, while the other is a non tasting allele; each of these alleles code for a receptor inside the cell, but the shape of receptor varies depending on which allele is present. The shape is an important indication of how strongly the PTC can bind. It is located on chromosome 7 (Emerson). • 5. Spread Of Violence How Society Should Protect Itself Against Violence. There are many theoretical ways in which society can protect itself against violence, ranging from more violence to kindness. But, the best way a society can protect itself from violence is by limiting the spread of violence. There are multiple ways to limit or stop the spread of violence. One way is to not be hostile to violent people, stopping the amount of violence. A second is to limit the amount of people doing a violent act. Lastly, to remove the original source of violence. By stopping or decreasing the spread of violence, a society can be protected. The first way to limit violence is through the idea of non complementary behavior. Violence is spreadable according to Gary Slutkin in a talk named Let s Treat Violence Like a Contagious Disease. In his talk, he discusses the idea that violence is something that can be passed on from person to person, that being raised in a violent situation or being shown violence can make a person in turn, violent. He suggests that the way to limit this spread of violence is to first, remove the person who began the violence. In removing that person, they are no longer spreading around violence. Secondly, prevent the spread further by helping those who were exposed to violence to not turn to violence themselves. Lastly, he claims that shifting the group norms from violence to something not aggressive will result in a decrease in violence. • 6. Notes On The Genetic Disease Hypertrichosis Community College of Allegheny County Hypertrichosis (Werewolf Syndrome) Erin Bachor, Taylor Burgess, Anna Glaser, and Megan Peterson BIO 207AC01H Dr. John Law 05 June 2015 ABSTRACT The purpose of this paper is to document the genetic disease hypertrichosis. Using articles, and web sources we will outline the history, genetic basis, and different treatments of this genetic disease. Hypertrichosis literal meaning is excess of hair growth. The elemental genetic defect remains unknown because there are many factors at work. There is a debate if hypertrichosis is an autosomal or X linked disease, since there have been documented cases of both. However, there are certain chromosomal defects that have proven to be present in many patients. Certain diseases and environmental triggers are known to be associated with hypertrichosis. Although this disease is nonfatal, it can be embarrassing and unpleasant for the patient. Excess hair can manifest itself on the hands, face, and body. There are few treatments aside from cosmetic procedures. There remains no known cure for hypertrichosis. HISTORY OF HYPERTRICHOSIS Hypertrichosis is a unique and rare disease of its time, exemplifying characteristics of having excessive hair growth covering the entire body. Very little is known about this hypertrichosis because of how scarce it is. The manifestation, and genetic causes vary when it comes to this disease as well. These factors as well as others have made this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The outage that he saw how he could escape from the working class was by distributing and selling cocaine. Not only was he a Columbian drug trafficker and drug lord, but he was also a narco terrorist. He was one of the most ruthless person to ever live. That is something that I do believe, the producers for the Netflix show may have left out some true things that may have happened. I personally do admire and respect the people that were on the hunt for Pablo Escobar. It was a dangerous mission, that they could have been killed any day. Thankfully they didn t. It was so unbelievable on how much money Pablo was making in a year, especially in a MONTH! They presented pictures on how much cocaine was found in one laboratory, out of hundreds of them. The labs is where they would pack the cocaine in plastic bags. Also, the ways on how they would smuggle the cocaine were unbelievable. Who would have ever thought of looking in a fruit for drugs? That was really impressive. The way how he would have people killed was extremely viscous! People s bodies would be tortured and ripped apart. I personally would never have the heart to do that to anyone, even if I did not like them. Pablo was a man with no compassion and remorse. Then Pablo was in prison for five years, with his own guards ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Theme Of Foreshadowing In A Doll House A Doll House by Henrik Ibsen, is a play that follows Nora Helmer and her husband Torvald Helmer through the holiday season and the fall of their marriage. Within the two acts there are many figurative language devices used to help further the story along, however, there are a few in specific that stand out. The play s foreshadowing, symbolism, and irony all contribute the most to the play s overall development of Nora s self affirmation. Foreshadowing in A Doll House is present from the beginning of the story. Much of which is not noticeable until later events. In the beginning of Act 1 Nora hides her macaroons from Torvald, HELMER: Hasn t Miss Sweet Tooth been breaking rules in town today? ... taken a bite at a macaroon or two? NORA: No, Torvald. (Ibsen, 1657). Although it is minor in nature, it reveals Nora s character of being rebellious despite Torvald s wishes. The effect this characterization has on the story is that she is not the obeying wife that many were in the Victorian Era. Through this foreshadowing the reader can begin to identify the conflicts of Nora and Torvald s relationship that get developed on as the play progresses. Another example of foreshadowing is in Act 2 when Nora is getting ready to leave out to town, when she engages in a conversation with Anne Marie about the children asking, Do they ask for me much? . To which Anne Marie responds, They re so used to having Mama around, you know. . This is important because Nora replies with, Yes, but Anne Marie, I can t be together with them as much as I was. (Ibsen, 1675). This hints towards Nora abandoning her role as a mother, which in the end occurs when she leaves Torvald to find herself and become independent. The foreshadowing throughout the play contributed to the dramatic ending. Symbolism in A Doll House is another key element in the development of the play. The setting of the play was during Christmas Eve throughout December 26th. Typically, this is the ending of the year and represents family being together. However, as the play progresses, the optimistic outlook on Christmas that is expected changes. In the opening description of the setting in Act 1 Nora tells Helene, Hide the tree well... • 12. Metaphors As A Metaphor Morgan s metaphors personified: Auto bot a new way of understanding and theorizing about the organizations Theories are built from abstractions known as concepts. Metaphors have long been in use to describe organizations and development of organizational theory. In order to understand abstract concepts, it is of fundamental importance to know how metaphor works. Different scholars within the field of organizational research have acknowledged this (e.g. Morgan 1980; Weick 1989; Cornelissen 2005; Putman Boys 2006). Within the field of linguistics, probably no phenomenon has been as well researched as metaphor (Steen 2007). Research shows that for language users, it is inevitable to use metaphor when dealing with abstract concepts. Metaphors therefore play a key role in the construction of reality (Lakoff Johnson 1999). Use of metaphors always has limitations which are mentioned by Gareth Morgan the Author of the famous classic book on organizational theory, images of organization . While introducing the famous eight metaphors used for developing organizational theories he mentions that metaphors help explain, but they also distort. They have... Many scientists suspected that some kind of evolution had given rise to living things around them. However, they had no theory to explain how evolution might have occurred. Two scientists led the way in the search for a mechanism of evolution. The first was Jean Lamarck. The second was one of the greatest figures in biology, Charles Darwin. What is evolution? Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Natural selection, together with the rules of inheritance discovered by Gregor Mendel, stand at the basis of modern evolutionary biology. Darwin was the British naturalist who became famous for his theories of evolution and natural selection. Like several scientists before him, Darwin believed all the life on earth evolved over millions of years from a few common ancestors. From 1831 to 1836 Darwin served as naturalist aboard the H.M.S. Beagle on a British science expedition around the world. In South America Darwin found fossils of extinct animals that were similar to modern species. On the Galapagos Islands in the Pacific Ocean he noticed many variations among plants and animals of the same general type as those in South America. The expedition visited places around the world, and Darwin studied plants and animals everywhere he went, collecting specimens for further study. Upon his return to London Darwin concluded thorough research of his notes and specimens many ideas. Out of this study grew several related theories: one, evolution did occur, two, evolutionary change was gradual, requiring thousands to millions of years, three, the primary mechanism for evolution was a process called natural selection, and four, the millions of species alive today arose from a single original life form through a branching process called specialization. The material of the piece is largely folk and even incorporates an old shaker song called Simple Gifts by Elder Joseph Brackett written in 1848. One song, a patriotic piece called A Lincoln Portrait was written at the beginning of World War II after Copland was commissioned to write a musical portrait of an eminent American political figure. He quoted original folk songs of the time such as the well known Camptown Races and also included material from letters and speeches Lincoln had given. When looking at the characteristics of his work, Copland could most likely be described as an experimentalist. He often enjoyed mixing various stylistic ideas of Jazz and Mexican dance rhythms into his music and did not shy away from including these styles into his film scores and ... Soto is the poet of the Chicano experience, but his view of that people is not hopeful. He shows their condition to be one of hard work with few rewards. (Sullivan). Most Mexican Americans had laborious jobs. Soto s father and grandfather both worked blue collar jobs and he thought he would be doomed to the same life. In one of his essays, Gary Soto writes that as a child, he had imagined he would marry Mexican poor, work Mexican hours, and in the end die a Mexican death, broke and in despair. (Lee). Here he describes Mexican life as an undesirable one. The despair he came to know as a child shows up a lot in his work as seen in his short story Sorry, Wrong Family . The main character, Carolina finds the world an unpleasant place to live. The world, she realized, was a sad place when from a few feet away trash could fool someone who walked in beauty. (Soto 41). This line from the story describes the moment where after asking for help she receives a small amount of hope, but puts herself back down rather quickly. Soto s view of these people comes from his own experiences. Recently, Soto attended his junior high school reunion, and he was disheartened to learn how many of his childhood friends had ended up in prison or been killed. (Lee). Within a child s average development these skills are categorised under four main subtopics 1) Physical Development that includes the large motor skills used for tasks such sitting, walking, and crawling. As well as the fine motor skills that are precise movements such as grasping and picking up smaller objects. 2) Cognitive Milestones that are based around the idea of problem solving; such as being able to learn and understand the alphabet as well as learning how to react to different situations including the correlation that may be linked to changing facial expression. 3) Social and Emotional development is centred on the basis of being able to gain a better understanding of personal emotions and those of others. Commodification as a broad topic will play a large role in this paper, and whether or not culture is a commodity that should be bought and sold. Commodification will also be talked about in terms with what role it plays in a culture and the affects that it has on modern tourism and the tourist s outlook on the world and other cultures. Commodification Commodification is defined as a way to make something into an object for commercial use . In terms of culture and tourism, commodification refers to using a place s culture and the cultural artifacts to make a large enough profit to support part of the area s economy . To most people this does not sound like much of a problem, but even a fleck of paint moving 17,500 miles per hour or more can cause significant damage to spacecraft and space walkers alike. As more collisions take place and as new items enter the atmosphere the statistical probability of a collision will increase. It tested the first nuclear weapon in 1945 ( Trinity ), and remains the only country to have used nuclear weapons against an enemy state in warfare, devastating the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It was the first nation to develop the hydrogen bomb, testing an experimental prototype in 1952 ( Ivy Mike ) and a deployable weapon in 1954 ( Castle Bravo ). Throughout the Cold War it continued to modernize and enlarge its nuclear arsenal, but from 1992 on has been involved primarily in a program of Stockpile stewardship.[28][29][30] The U.S. nuclear arsenal contained 31,175 warheads at its Cold War... Atwood points out that in The Odyssey , Odysseus as well as Penelope are written in the third person, excluding only the part where Odysseus is telling the story of his adventures such as the one eyed monster, the eating of Apollo s cattle, etcetera. The novel itself comes across with a style similar to that of Greek drama, with the main crux of story being told by the main character Penelope, however she is constantly being interrupted by the twelve maids chorus lines which only serves as commentary and their expression of sorrow. He constructs the concept of a double consciousness, wherein a black person has two identities as two completely separate individuals, in order to demonstrate the fallacy of these opinions. J.S. As DuBois looks through the veil, he can see a world that he loves, but cannot belong to because it belongs to the whites. The veil perpetuates the concept of alienation from the world to which he knows he will never belong. From the other side, whites look through at blacks, and construct their own opinions of the opposing race, and in doing so, create an opinion that is accepted by blacks themselves. The distortion created by the veil muddles the world of the whites and also the self knowledge within each individual on the black side of the veil. This sort of idea is the same thing that Mill critiques in the early parts of On Liberty. Mill discusses that few think it necessary to take any precautions against their own fallibility, or admit the supposition that any opinion, of which they feel very certain, may be one of the examples of error to which they acknowledge themselves to be liable. (Mill 615). Herein lies the problem of the whites, as over time they have come to accept their own ideas of the blacks in the United States without accepting the possibility of their own fallibility. Mill would argue that dissenting voices need to be heard in order to bring forth the right opinions, but with the veil the DuBois discusses, this is an impossibility. • 51. The Three Major Arguments For The Existence Of God Some of the three major arguments for the existence of God are cosmological, ontological, and teleological arguments. Cosmological argument is the reasoning that the being of the universe is powerful proof for the existence of a God who made it. There are two main forms of cosmological argument, the modal and temporal. Modal cosmological argument, also known as the argument from contingency, recommends that because the world may not have existed, we then need some clarification of why it does exist. When there is more than one likelihood, something has to decide which of the possibilities is understood clearly. Therefore the world is contingent, because there has to be a logical reason for its existence. This form of argument also claims that the only type of existence that doesn t need any clarification is a being that does not failed to exist such as God. Temporal cosmological argument, also known as the Kalam argument, contends that all evidence are that there is a point in life at which the world began to exist, and that this starting must either have been caused or uncaused. The cosmological argument used by Aquinas declares that since nothing originates from nothing. Therefore the world must have been brought into reality by something outside it, which can be called God . Ontological argument is an argument that is not based on inspection of the universe, but rather on rationality alone. This type of argument reasons from the study of being or existence (ontology). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The writings of Plato s Republic, Machiavelli s Prince, and Aurelius s Meditationsall contain a visions of a leader, but the descriptions of Aurelius are more closely related to what a leader is. There are three impactful minds that affect how people perceive the essence of a leader, and they are Machiavelli, Plato and Marcus Aurelius. In Plato s Republic, Plato describes what he believes a leader to possess. He describes a leader to be the person who understands the forms, and seeks the truth. He calls that person a philosopher king, or a joyful shepherd of sheep. This man/woman is able to determine what is real and what is not. With this ability they are able to lead people with a selflessness that cannot be matched by the other two figures. Moving on to Marcus Aurelius s outlook, the differences show through plainly. Aurelius begins with the definition of stoicism, which is a Greek philosophy that teaches the development of self control and fortitude as a means ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. Essay On American Sign Language I first learned American Sign Language through a TV show. It was one of the shows that were trending lately, just like the current Stranger Things and Thirteen Reasons Why. I was a bandwagoner so I would always watch all the shows that were talked about. Switched At Birth educated me so much about ASL, deafness, and more. Because of this show, I have wanted to learn sign language more than ever. More than just learning a language, I wanted to know what experiences accompany a hearing person beginning to learning ASL but mostly how does a deaf person feel throughout their day? American Sign Language, or more commonly known as ASL, was founded more than 200 thousand years ago from different sign languages around the time. ASL, as suggested by its name, is not a universal sign language. If you were to go to and any other country, a person might be at a loss when the signs do not match up. Most people assume that sign language comes from just the hands, but everyday speakers add facial expression and some movement of their body. ASL requires a hearing person to do things very differently than how they normally act. For instance, when signing to a deaf or hard of hearing a person, one needs to face... The club talked about elections, and we started the lesson about learning how to sign signs for family and animals. At first, there were a lot of signs given to us, then the teacher, Jai, slowly point to each individual person and randomly choose a word for the person to sign from the whiteboard. After that, we got into groups of two in order to find more about our partners only through signing. This was very interesting because at the end, Jai made all of us talk about our partners through signing, which I thought was a very interesting and effective way to teach the ... • 55. Review Of The Skeleton Key The Skeleton Key is a movie about belief in the magic centered practice of Hoodoo. The movie has many themes centered on the power of belief. Magic and rituals were vehicles used many times during the course of the movie. Throughout the movie, its protagonist, Caroline, transforms her belief system through a series of events that will be explained in this paper. The movie also shows how the beliefs and individual approaches to magicand religious practices drive the actions and interactions of the movie s antagonists, Papa Justify and Mama Cecile, as well as secondary characters such as Jill, Caroline s roommate. Caroline, starts out as a non believer of magic. She views the people and culture of New Orleans through an etic lens. For example, when Caroline first arrived at the gas station prior to reaching the mansion, she became unnerved by all of the Hoodoo artifacts she saw. She did not understand their significance at the time but felt uneasy and wanted to leave as soon as possible. She makes many ethnocentric judgements of the local people and culture. During the course of the film, Caroline s belief starts to change as she experiences many things that she cannot explain with her current belief system. Her interpretation of the causal links between these experiences provide her with the proof that magic works. This explains why Voodoo worked on Caroline towards the latter part of the film, when her exposure to the culture and artifacts of Hoodoo ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
