Introduction
This paper will analyze Shriners Hospital for children, a non profit hospital system owned by Shriners
International, through the theoretical lens of Bolman and Deals Leadership Frameworks (1997). This
paper will define structural and symbolic aspects of the organization, analyze strengths, weaknesses,
opportunities and threats through structural assessment to identify growth and risk potential, and
propose possible solutions for identified issues.
Shriners Hospitals for Children is a non profit hospital system that maintains 22 hospitals for children
in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. 18 of the hospitals provide orthopedic specialization; three
hospitals focus on burn care, and one hospital offers burn, spinal, and orthopedic care. The first
hospital was opened in Shreveport Louisiana, in 1922 by Shriners International, a fraternal
organization for men. The hospitals provide cutting edge care for a variety of condition, actively
engage in research for cures to childhood diseases and improvement to orthopedic and burn treatments
(Schumaker, 2005).

Margaret Mead once said: Never believe that a few caring people can t change the world. For, indeed,
that s all who ever have. This quote certainly holds true for me. When I was in elementary school, a
caring man changed my life without knowing it. In second grade, my mother signed me and my little
sister up for ice skating class. For an extremely brief time period, I had visions of becoming a figure
skating prodigy, but they immediately dissipated as soon as I stepped onto the ice. I couldn t take a
step without slipping, but I was terrified of falling. To get to the area of the arena where the class was
taking place, I had to hang onto the side of the wall and slowly push myself sideways.
When class started, the teacher first taught us to skate across the ice by stepping outward with our
skates. Our first task was to skate across the ice arena. I felt like I was two again. I took tiny baby
steps across the ice, afraid to fall. I wasn t sure why I was deathly scared of falling. I was bundled up
in snowpants and a heavy winter coat, so falling wouldn t have hurt much anyway, and it wasn t like
falling was an extremely horrible mistake. But I was afraid to take a big step and fall. In life, I have

Natsume Soseki s Kokoro illustrates the struggles of a young man (the narrator) who was alienated
from his family and his loneliness as he pursues acceptance and love by building a friendship with an
elder. As a parallel to this, the elder (Sensei), sought an end to his social isolation through his love to a
woman whose qualities were not tainted by modernity. K, Sensei s childhood friend, had also hinted

The students are medically fragile and severely handicapped. However, there is one student that the
assistant work with more and know more about. The student has seizures if he is over stimulated. The
assistant knows how to not over stimulate him. The student loves to look at lights on the ceiling,

When you classify music in genres, terms such as Classical can be rather broad, and it can include
both Classical time period (1750 1820) and pieces from the 19th to 21st century. For example, a piece
written by J.S. Bach, can be classified as Classical, it is technically more suitably defined as being in
the Baroque genre because it is different in terms of sound quality ,composition technique,
instrumentation and arrangement.
In conclusion, systematic organization of facts is not fruitful as arts are full of opinions and
