INTRODUCTION
 Nursing education prepare nurses to practice in a
variety of settings.
 The impact of modernization, globalization and
liberalization on the society has brought
tremendous changes in general and nursing
education.
 The significant trends in modern education are
creativity, changes in teaching-learning process
and advanced educational technology.
 The main reason for the emergence of dual role is
the shortage of nursing faculty and clinical nurses.
 The concept of faculty supervisor position (dual
role) in nursing has evolved since a decade, but
the practice has not been implemented in wide
range.
DEFINITIONS
 DUAL POSITION:- Dual position means having a
dual character or nature or its an ability of a person
to act both as an agent and principal.
 FACULTY:- Faculty is define as a type of body or
group of persons associated by some common tie
or occupation and regarded as an entity.
 SUPERVISOR:- A person who directs and
oversees the work of a person or an activity. A
supervisor, when the meaning sought is similar to
cell coach, manager, facilitator, area co-ordinator, is
the job title of low level management position that is
primarily based on authority over a worker.

SUPERVISION:-
INTRODUCTION:- Concept of supervision have
changed in recent years. Today, there is more
democracy in supervision. Supervision of the student
has two goals, the development of the student and
the improvement of nursing care. Where the
graduate nurse supervision is focused on the
attainment of one goal, the giving of high quality
care.
DEFINITION:-
 Supervision is the act or function of overseeing
something or somebody. A person who perform
supervision is a ‘supervisor’. A person who is
getting supervision is called ‘supervisee’.
 The activity of managing a department, projects,
etc. and of making sure that things are done
correctly and according to the rules is also referred
as supervision.

 A nursing supervisor leads a team of registered
nurses, nurse aids and trainee nurses. They ensure

and clinical settings that facilitates students
learning and an achievement of desired cognitive,
affective and psychomotor outcomes”.
 A clinical nurse is one who is practicing in the
clinical institution such as hospital. So, a faculty
supervisor is a nurse who is employed by an
academic institution to teach nursing and who
works in the parent or affiliated hospital supervising
students and staff in a particular area on a regular
basis.
 She/He will be accountable to all the activities
performed by students and staff and also regarding
the proceedings of the ward.
