Computer Network
Components of a network
Computer Network:
A collection of two or more computer that
is linked together through communication
medium (wired or wireless), in order to
share computer resources and information
is called a computer network or simply a
network.
Components of a network:
A computer network is composed of the
following components
Sending Device:
A device which sends any information in
the form of data or instructions is called a
sending device. It is also called “source” or
“transmitter”. Normally computer is used
as a sending device in data
communication system.
Receiving Device:
A device that accepts the transmitted data
is called a receiving device. It is also
known as “Sink”. The receiving device
may be a computer, printer, plotter etc.
Communication
Devices:
A device that is used for communication
among the computer and other device is
called communication device. One of the
most popular and most widely used
communications is Modem. Modem is
normally used for internet communication.
Other examples of communication device
are Network interface card, Bluetooth,
Wi-Fi etc.
Transmission
Medium:
A transmission medium is used for caring
communication signals (data) from one
place to another. The most common type
of transmission media used with wired
computer network are twisted pair cable,
coaxial cable, fiber-optic cables etc.
whereas satellite, microwave and infra red
are commonly used for wireless computer
networks.
