Three phases of computer-assisted language learning (CALL) are described: 1) Behavioristic CALL from the 1950s-1970s focused on repetitive drills and practice. 2) Communicative CALL of the 1970s-1980s aimed to allow more authentic communication beyond drills. 3) Integrative CALL incorporates multimedia like hypermedia and the internet to create more authentic learning environments that integrate reading, writing, speaking and listening skills.
