Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) uses computer technology to aid in the presentation, reinforcement, and assessment of language learning materials. CALL has evolved through three phases - behavioral, communicative, and integrative. Current CALL utilizes multimedia and the internet to immerse students in interactive language learning environments. While computers provide individualized attention, the teacher still plays an important role in lesson planning and implementation to ensure CALL is effectively used as a supplement rather than replacement for traditional instruction.
