Bill Clinton Immigration Policy Analysis
Immigration: If elected, Clinton plans to reform the immigration system within the first 100 days
in office. Her plan will treat every person with dignity, fix the family visa backlog, uphold the rule
of law, protect our borders and national security, and bring millions of hardworking people into the
formal economy. She will fight to terminate the three and ten year bars that bar illegal immigrants
that must return to apply for a green card from returning for three to ten years. In terms of President
Obama s executive actions DACA and DAPA (programs that allow for deportation exemptions and
work permits in certain circumstances), Clinton believes these are within the realm of executive
authority and plans to defend them. In Clinton s plan,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She believes that all students should have the opportunity to graduate from colleges in their state
without racking up thousands and thousands of dollars in debt. She cites that families that have an
income under $125,000 won t pay for tuition in in state colleges by 2021. While during her first
term she pledges to make in state public college free for families that make up to $85,000.
Building on Obama s plans, Clinton promises to make community colleges free of tuition. She
believes that states need to invest in higher education while colleges should consistently be
working to control tuition costs. She wants to give extra aid to historically black colleges as well
as other institutions that aid minorities. In Clinton s plan, no one will have to pay more than 10%
of their income to student loan bills, after 20 years the debt is forgiven. Borrowers that are
struggling will be given aid and Hillary wants to drastically cut interest rates for future borrowers
and so that the government is never profiting from student loans. Clinton would like to simplify the
process, and entice employers to help with student loan debt, while entrepreneurs should be
allowed to defer their loans, and in certain circumstances the government should forgive up to
$17,500 while they are in the process of risk taking. A big part of Clinton s plan is just reducing
penalties against borrowers and making refinancing simpler. Clinton plans to

The Benefits Of Organic Farming
As we have been discussing in class, the debate on organic food has been rising. Many say that it
is the way of the future, while many others say it is going back to the ways of the past. When
synthetic chemical fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides are currently some of the most used things
in farming today to help facilitate perfect growing conditions and increase yields, could it be
possible for organic farmers compete with them? If organic farmingwere to become the go to
method of farming, we have to ask: Is organic farming globally sustainable? While there may be
many ways to answer this question while looking at different aspects of the organic movement and
their definitions, one answer in particular jumped out at me. Organic farming is not globally
sustainable because it is not efficient enough to serve the global market. Sustainability is one of the
top issues when it comes to farming today. Farmers need to consider the effect they are having on
their land when using certain practices and products. For this reason, it is important to remember
that organic and conventional farming both require extensive work to maintain their products and
to provide for the consumer. As we have seen in Steven Shapin s essay What Are You Buying
When You Buy Organic , in where he references Michael Pollan talking about Asparagus, which
had been grown in Argentina, [and] air freighted six thousand miles to the States (433) , the role of
the consumer is not limited to those in

Response of Fredrick Douglass to Uncle Tom s Cabin by...
Fredrick Douglass Response to Uncle Tom s Cabin
Frederick Douglass was arguably the most prominent African American abolitionist during the mid
19th century. He established his notoriety through his narrative entitled Narrative of the Life of
Frederick Douglass, an American Slave published in 1845. Frederick Douglass also produced an
African American newspaper, Frederick Douglass Paper, which highlighted the reception and
critiques of Harriet Beecher Stowe s Uncle Tom s Cabin. Frederick Douglass praised Uncle Tom s
Cabin through not only his writing but in the critiques and letters contained in his newspaper. It is
important to look at these reviews to understand Douglass intentions. However, C.V.S. from the

On 2 December 1853, Douglass himself wrote and published a letter to Harriet Beecher Stowe
concerning her added involvement in abolitionism in Frederick Douglass Paper. In this letter
Douglass directly, under his own name, praises Uncle Tom s Cabin as a useful tool in the fight
for abolitionism. He writes, I desire to express, dear Madam, my deep sense of the value of the
services which you have already rendered my afflicted and persecuted people, by the publication of
your inimitable book on the subject of slavery. That contribution to our bleeding cause, alone,
involves us in a debt of gratitude which cannot be measured . . . . (Douglass) . By writing this letter,
Douglass establishes the novel as both valuable and sympathetic to the plight of the enslaved
African American. His stature as the premiere African American abolitionist affirms this to the
public.
However, Douglass politics on colonization were in direct opposition to Uncle Tom s Cabin.
C.V.S., a writer for Provincial Freeman, writes about Douglass, . . . [H]e pronounces colonization in

The Movement For Higher Education
The Movement for Higher Education in Nursing
Bernis Sosa
Luzerne County Community College
Abstract
New programs, courses, experiences and changing requirements for the development of new skills
pave the way for different opportunities for students to prepare for initial and continuing practice
in a rapidly changing society (Cherry Jacob, 2014, p. 36). As a nurse there are so many great
opportunities. You can become a nurse by enrolling in different types of programs. Those
available programs today include diploma, associates, or bachelor s degree. The most popular
form is to attain an associate s degree. AND programs were so successful that they became the new

52).
The Movement for Higher Education in Nursing
Nurses in today s society should be required to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) as
the minimal degree required to practice as a registered nurse. A baccalaureates degree provides
great outcomes for both the patient and the nurse. While in that type of nursing program the
nurse will be able to gain more expertise. These programs provide the nursing student greater
depth in learning about the multiple disease processes that can be encountered with patients.
BSN programs focus more emphasis on the family and community and health promotion and
illness and prevention; a large part of clinical experience is in diverse community settings
(Cherry Jacob, 2014, p. 52). Upon obtaining the BSN you will be able to further your education if
you decide you would like to specialize in a certain area. Most specialty areas require the BSN
degree for practice and as preparation for specialty certification. Admission into master programs
usually requires a BSN or other degree (Cherry Jacob, 2014, p. 52).
Choosing to Become a Nurse
Because of the multitude of changes, registered nurses need strong critical thinking skills that
enable them to change old and incorporate new care practices, as well as the ability to approach
clinical issues using multiple ways of thinking (Newton Moore, 2013, p. 154). The decision to
become a nurse for each individual varies. Some may become a nurse for the joy of

The Importance of Social Media to Activism Essay
Lindsey Brown Professor Daren Dean English 2000 22 March 2013 You Cannot Ignore the
Importance of Social Media According to Dictionary.reference.com, activism is the policy or
action of using campaigning to bring about political or social change. A huge campaign that is
well known across the world, the Civil Rights Movement, was brought about by Martin Luther
King, Jr. King risked his life everyday to ensure justice and equality for the African American
race. Small Change by Malcolm Gladwell gives insight on how activism is more effective than
social media, especially from one scenario at the Woolworth s lunch counter in Greensboro, North
Carolina. Gladwell points out his strong belief of what activism can do for a society rather... Show

Another drawback is the potential to cause riots or outbreaks in a school, town, or even a
country. The countless amount of bullying that happens on social networks is evidence that if
social media participants are not careful about what they post on their social media pages and on
the Internet for public viewing, it can possibly trigger bias or prejudice judgments. Social
networking sites began to become popular in 2002 and although still in their youth, it has many
disadvantages that should not be overlooked. People should not have to be worried about what
they put on social networks because as Americans, we have freedom of speech. Thus it is
reasonable for people to be skeptical and oppose social media when runs the risk of being
counterproductive. No matter how much potential social media has for political or societal change
it is important to criticize its negative aspects. An article written by Andrea Moncada, begins her
argument with the question has social media had the same impact on advocacy. Similar to Gladwell
s points of view, Moncada states, social media can help get the word around, but participants must
be united by a core message and traditional methods... This source of uncertainty is the basis for its
support and is understandable. In addition to the fraudulent issue and the disadvantages it presents;
there is a crucial distinction between traditional activism and its online

Symbolism In The Bloody Chamber
Angela Carter s The Bloody Chamber depicts a woman as the heroic figure who represents
persistence, vigor, and passion as she continually encourages and inevitably saves her daughter
from the grips of death. Carter s attempt to effectively portray a woman as an animal like hero is
done so by the mother as seen progressively throughout the story. At the same age as her daughter
now, the heroine already accomplished so much and created an identity illustrating her beastliness,
power, womanhood, and strength. In The Bloody Chamber, Carter s nameless heroine is in fact the
motherdue to her fierce and ferocious attitude as she is explored throughout the story from her
daughters admiring descriptions and her own fearless actions.
The girl is eager to marry the marquis so she can transform into a woman and develop a strong
identity as her mother has. The girl admiringly notices that her mother is eagle featured,
indomitable, which illustrates a fierce and tough exterior that correlates to her personality
(Carter 2). Boasting that her mother outfaced a junkful of Chinese pirates, nursed a village
through a visitation of the plague, shot a man eating tiger with her own hand, as this depicts the
girl s mother as a strong independent character who stands tall in the face of adversity (Carter 2).
Her beastliness is evident as we are now aware that the mother has killed a tiger with her very
own hands and she would not mind doing it again. After the father died, the mother was
distraught but prevailed through her misery able to grow into an even stronger woman and
mother for her daughter. As the girl reflects on such a difficult period in their lives we are able
to see how much her mother s growth also affected her as she states, my mother... had gladly,
scandalously, defiantly, beggared herself for love... grown magnificently eccentric in hardship
which illustrates her mother did not allow her grief to control her or inhibit her abilities to be a
mom (Carter 2). Being a single parent helped her flourish as a mother and as a person. The mother
is already portrayed as a strong female figure before this information is introduced but after the
audience gains this knowledge about her, it is clear that the mother is

Trail Of Tears Sparknotes
Most Americans have at least some vague understanding of the Trail of Tears, but not many
know about the events that led to that tragic removal of thousands of Indians from their
homeland. Indian lands were held hostage by the states and the federal government. The
Indians had to agree to removal to maintain their tribe identities. Trail of Tears is an excellent
example of a particular situation and will be eye opening to those who are not familiar with the
story of the southern tribes and their interactions with the rapidly growing American population.
The Trail of Tears has become the symbol in American history that indicates the callousness,
insensitivity, and cruelty of American government toward American Indians in 1839 and 1839.
The book The Trail of Tears: The Rise and fall of the Cherokee Nation, by John Ehle displays the
full history of a Native American democratic state, which is the Cherokee Nation. Like the
United States, it was born in bloodshed and war, but instead of continuing to last, it grew for only
a few years and then was destroyed by President Andrew Jackson and the government of the state
of Georgia. Ehle includes a great deal of primary sources, such as journals, military orders, letters,
etc., that serve to enrich the story. In Trail of Tears, John Ehle introduces the people and events that
led to the Trail of Tears, and the removal of the Cherokee Nation to Indian Territory. In the Indian
Territory the Indians were promised that whites

Proposed Merger Analysis In 2002, a proposal was made to merge the Utah Symphony and Utah
Opera due to the failing economy, collapsing of the stock market, declining government financial
support, and a waning of donations for the arts. The proposed merger would help both
organizations by economizing on costs and expanding the artistic potential of both organizations.
Each of the organizations need to support the decision in order for the merger to be successful.

Scott Parker can utilize Adam s equity theory to persuade Mrs. Abravanel to support the merger.
The equity theory in essence is when individuals seek to maintain equity based on the inputs
they produce and the outcomes they receive from their inputs as compared to others perceived
inputs and outcomes. A balance between inputs and outputs is strived for because it leads to
fairness and improved relations. Mrs. Abravanel s opposition to the merger could be because of
a perceived unfairness based on the efforts her husband put into to bringing the Utah Symphony
up to world class stature. Mrs. Abravanel sees the symphony as the dominant party in the merger.
This is apparent by Mrs. Abravanel s statement, Maurice would never take second billing to
anyone (Delong amp; Ager, 2005). Parker must show Mrs. Abravanel that the merger will help
alleviate some of the financial stress the symphony is facing and increase the success and
visibility of both organizations. In order to convince Mrs. Abravanel to support the merger,
Parker needs to explain the rationale behind the merger as well as understand why Mrs.
Abravanel sees the merger as unfair and inequitable. In order to sway Mrs. Abravanel to support
the merger, Parker can offer Mrs. Abravanel a seat to participate in the merger discussions. Mrs.
Abravanel s perceived unfairness would be assuaged by giving her a voice in the discussions

Comparing The Contributions Of Andrew Jackson And John Ross
In this situation I do not believe that there is a hero. As the first article states, there are two sides
to every story, and as it also states there are few saints in this tale. Despite Andrew Jackson s
positive contributions, such as insuring that Cherokees were given equal pay, he still
massacred thousands of Native Americans. He signed the Indian Removal Act, which prompted
the Trail of Tears, one of the darkest events in American History in which 13,000 Cherokees were
forced to walk miles from their homeland. It also resulted in the Florida Seminoles, a war lasting
nearly as long as the Iraq war. John Ross was not perfect as well. Though he actively fought for
the right of his people, he was a slave owner. It seems rather hypocritical for one to be fighting for
the rights of one group of people while treating another like nothing more than objects. Despite
this, John Ross did try and create change by working with allies that were white and by taking his
peoples case to the Supreme Court.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite winning the court case the Native American people s need and rights were completely
disregarded. Their homes were ripped away from them and their voices were silenced, as they
could not even vote at the time. I appreciated the idea that both Andrew Jackson and John Ross
should share the twenty dollar bill. There are two sides to this story in history and I believe both
should be accurately represented. We should definitely start to make our currency more diverse by

The Complex Variety and Uses of the Senecio Genus
Senecio is a huge genus in the family Asteracea, which in turn is one of the biggest families:
meaning Senecio is one of the most largest genus in the world with up to 3000 species found.
(Voss, 1985) Since then, phylogeny has separated many members of the Senecio genus and
reclassified them as Packera. However, Packera spp. are still complex, so much so that Robert
Kowal discovered a new species on Isle Royal in Michigan in 2011, and aptly named it Packera
insulae regalis. According to Kowal, The populations that are currently grouped under the name
Packera paupercula do represent a motley lot that should be split into a handful of species.
(personal communication, 8/1/2013) The plant P. paupercula, also known as Life Root or
Balsam Ragwort, is a dwarf member of Alvar habitats reaching heights of two feet. The entire
plant can be incredibly variable: basal leaves can range from medium to long petioled, and
obovate to oblong or oblanceolate in shape. The margins are usually toothed with serrations that
vary from lobed to pinnatified, and leaf apexes that are either blunt or tipped. Cauline leaves are
individual to many, smaller, deeply serrated and partially to fully clasping the stem. P. paupercula
is known for its pubescence, especially at the leaf axils. The golden inflorescence are capitate and
more or less flat topped. As summer comes into full swing, the petals can be seen falling off one

Over the past few decades there has been new developments in the Cosmetic industry. But, by
being so new to society how can we know about any risks about such new discoveries. One of the
recent developments, created in the last two decades, is the Laser Hair Removal Treatment. What
is this new development and how effective is it?
What is Laser Hair Removal? Laser hair removal is a Cosmetic procedure that uses laser beams to
remove unwanted hair from the body. This basic principle behind this program is selective
photothermolysis which, in Greek, creates the words light, heat and destruction that describes the
process of the surgery. The machine creates a highly intensified light that passes through the skin
and targets the melanin (pigmentation) which absorbs the energy, damages the papilla, then heat is
conducted outwards to destroy the germ cells that are on the hair shaft while leaving the
surrounding tissue somewhat undamaged. The perfect time to perform this treatment is when the
hair is going through its early anagen stage. This is when the hair is still connected to the papilla

Since the Constitution was written the government has had a hand in the economy, however the
proverbial hand has grown bigger and stronger. For instance, the Federal Trade Commission, FTC,
came to be around 1913 and its rulings have had varying levels of impact to the economy. FTC
rulings include: do not call legislation, funeral industry regulation, and antitrust rulings in the
petroleum industry. While the structure of the federal government was and still is the executive
branch, the legislative branch, and the judicial branch, those branches have each taken on many
more responsibilities as needed to keep up with the progression of America. Put in place by the
founding fathers, Federalism was intended to balance the power of the national and state
governments so that the national government could not acquire too much power. The executive
branch, the legislative branch, and the judicial branch still exist today as when first created, on a
much larger scale. Extensive modification in the executive branch since the late eighteenth century
has been the growth of the number of departments, agencies, and other offices. In 1789, President

Ronald Reagan Commemorative Speech
Second Main Point Description of Speech
a.Brief summary of speech Ronald Reagan s address is a commemorative speech meant to honor
the victims of the Challenger disaster and bring hope to a nation facing tragedy by encouraging
the continuation of space travel. According to our textbook, a commemorative speech is When we
speak to praise, memorialize, or celebrate...a person, event, or idea (Houck, ch. 4). In this speech,
Reagan s main focus is to memorialize the victims of the Challenger disaster, but he also aims to
celebrate and praise their dedication to exploration.
i. During this address to the nation, Ronald Reagan followed chronological order by first
comparing the disaster to other space faring disasters that previously occurred, then discussing
Challenger itself, and finally providing his vision for hope and continuing exploration in the future.
ii. Organizing his speech in this way was very effective to reassure Americans that the nation
would rise up from this tragedy. By first discussing tragedies of the past, saying, Nineteen years
ago, almost to the day, we lost three astronauts in a terrible accident on the ground. But we ve never
lost an astronaut in flight. We ve never had a tragedy like this (Eidenmuller), Reagan acknowledges
that the country has overcome tragedies before, even if they were different. He then discusses the
current situation of losing the Challenger astronauts and the impact of the tragedy as the country

Human cloning technology could be used to reverse heart attacks. Scientists believe that they may

Cancer. We may learn how to switch cells on and off through cloning and thus be able to cure
cancer. Scientists still do not know exactly how cells differentiate into specific kinds of tissue, nor
to they understand why cancerous cells lose their differentiation. Cloning, at long last, may be the
key to understanding differentiation and cancer.
Cystic fibrosis. We may be able to produce effective genetic therapy against cystic fibrosis. Ian

Spinal cord injury. We may learn to grow nerves or the spinal cord back again when they are

Twelve Years a Slave by Solomon Northup is a story about a slave whom was once free but was
abducted and was sold into slavery. This story is an explanation of the suffering of slaves in the
antebellum period and a demonstration of the inhumane treatment. Before I came here I was
free, a free man. The setting of the story was in New York, Washington, and Georgia during the
antebellum period. Twelve Years a Slave recounts the genuine story of Solomon Northup,
conceived a free man in New York, who is hijacked and sold into bondage where inconceivable
torments turn into his day by day reality for the following 12 years. The child of a liberated
slave, Northup was conceived free. He existed, met expectations, and wedded in upstate New
York, where his family lived. He was a multifaceted worker furthermore an expert violin player.
In 1841, two cheats offered him lucrative work playing fiddle in a bazaar, so he set out with
them to Washington, D.C., where he was tranquilized, captured, and therefore sold as a slave
into the Red River area of Louisiana. For the following twelve years he made due as the human
property of a few distinctive slave aces. In January 1853, Northup was at last liberated by
Northern companions who acted the hero. They make a trip over to New York, ceasing for a period

Rebellion In Dante s Inferno And Henry II
Rebellion has always been a part of the human experience, the past is full of rebellions, and
currently there are numerous books about rebellions and rebels, also, you can turn to any news
station and hear about a rebellion that is happening somewhere in the world. But something that is
not as often thought about is what are the repercussions of those rebellions? Additionally, why
exactly did those individuals rebel? Within the Inferno as well as the chronicle of letters between
Thomas Becket and Henry II it becomes very clear that there are two causes that inspire
individuals to rebel against their authority figures; they rebel because they will do anything in order
to gain things in the present, or, because they believe it is the only way to do the right thing. Within
Dante s Inferno, there are numerous acts of rebelliondescribed. In fact, according... Show more

As it can be seen from both the Inferno and the chronicle of letters between Thomas Becket and
Henry II the main cause of rebellions is trouble with authority, it does not matter whether the
authorities beliefs are considered right or wrong. Consider the rebellion in Ferguson, Missouri after
multiple officer involved shootings happened. The overall cause of these rebellions is the people of
Ferguson s trouble with the decisions those in authority made. In the same way as Thomas Becket,
those in Ferguson are rebelling against something they believe in their hearts to be wrong, and
unjust. By contrast, consider also the terrorist group ISIS, similarly, like the sinners in Inferno, the
members of ISIS rebel against the Syrian government, as well as numerous other governments

Alternative Methods Of The NIPG DGFEM Superconvergence
subsection{NIPG DGFEM Superconvergence 2011}
Now that the continuous standard Galerkin solution over a quasi uniform mesh may oscillate as
$epsilon to 0$. An alternative tool will be a discontinuous Galerkin (DG) method where the
oscillation can be avoided provided that an appropriate mesh refinement is applied, to capture the
boundary layer behavior. The origins of the DG methods can be traced back to the seventies where
they had been proposed as variational methods for numerically solving initial value problems and
transport problems. It is well known that the DG methods, in particular the local DG (LDG) method

cite{212,213} and Zhang et al. cite{214} adopted the local discontinuous Galerkin (LDG) method
to solve convection diffusion equations and analyzed the corresponding superconvergence
properties. On the other hand, non symmetric discontinuous Galerkin method with interior penalty
(the NIPG method), originally designed for elliptic equations, is analyzed by Zarin and Roos
cite{87} for convection diffusion problems with parabolic layers.
A disadvantage of DG method is that the method produces more degrees of freedom than the
continuous finite element method (CFEM). With this motivation, this work derives and analyzes a
coupled approach of LDG and CFEM on a layer adapted Shishkin mesh for singularly perturbed
convection diffusion problems. By splitting the domain into the coarse and the fine part, we adopt
the CFEM with linear elements in the fine part where the mesh size is comparable with $epsilon$,
and use LDG method in the coarse part for its stabilization.
The idea of combining DG and CFEM to obtain the advantages of both methods is not new. A
coupled LDG CFEM approach has also been studied by Perugia and Sch{ o}tzau cite{215} for
the modeling of elliptic problems arising in electromagnetics. Roos and Zarin cite{79}, Zarin
cite{82} analyzed the NIPG CFEM coupled method on Shishkin mesh for two dimensional
convection diffusion problems with exponentially layers or characteristic layers. In cite{209}, Zhu

A Brief History Of The Greenock Steamship
Appendix 5 A Brief History of the Greenock Steamship Company, the Gulf Line Association, and
their Ships THE TOWN OF GREENOCK lies on the south banks of the River Clyde where it
enters the Firth of Clyde. Historically it had largely been a fishing town, but the construction of a
harbour in 1714 marked the be ginning of its transformation into one of the key ports on the Clyde.
Throughout the 18th and early 19th centuries, a large fleet of sailing ships came to call Greenock
home. Greenock ships had distinguished themselves in the China tea trade, trade with the East
Indies, Australia, and California, and in the conveyance of timber from the St Lawrence River in

The advent of the screw propeller changed all of this and made steamers increasingly viable.
Though she still bore sails, Archimedes was the world s first screw propelled steamship. Built in
1839 in Britain, she had considerable influence on the development of ships and shipping in the
years to come. Despite the advances in steam technology, however, sailing ships continued to
dominate the world s oceans for many years to come. Unlike steamers they did not depend on
the availability of coal and were simply much cheaper to run. This was particularly evident in
voyages to the Far East, reached from Europe via the Cape of Good Hope at Africa s south ern
tip and from America across the Indian Ocean. This changed in 1869 with the opening of the
Suez Canal. As a result of this, the Far East and Australia were opened up to steamers bearing
passengers and mail from the Europe. But the effects of such developments were not immediate.
The continued dominance of sail was obvious nowhere better than in Greenock. When the Suez
Canal opened in 1869, only seven of the 182 or so Greenock registered ships listed in that year s
Post Officer Directory were steamers. In the subsequent years, the registration of additional sail ing
ships by Greenock shipowners consistently outnumbered the addition of new steamers. One such
syndicate of shipowners was William Lindsay and Com pany. The company had long been involved

Similarities Between Gilgamesh And The Bible
Many people and religions around the world have various versions of the flood narrative; The epic
of Gilgamesh, The Bible and Greek mythology are only a few with numerous similarities and
differences. These stories can be compared by how humans were created, how the floods started, the
effects of the flood and how it helped future generations throughout the world.
Between the three flood stories, there are any similarities and differences. In all the stories humans
were created but what was different was how they were created. In The epic of Gilgamesh and The
Bible, humans were both created by God(s). On the other hand, in the Greeks flood narrative,
humans were created by Deucalion and Pyrrha throwing stones. The stories are also similar ... Show

Gender Roles In Sir Gawain And The Green Knight
The fourteenth century was not known for unconventional writing. Moreover, the first attempts at
reform were occurring, causing assimilation and not much thought on sexism or the era s prevalent
misogyny. Yet, writers whether deliberately or unintentionally included gender roles in their text,
as they play a considerable role in all aspects of society. Genderroles are apparent in both the Pearl
Poet and Geoffrey Chaucer s stories. However, the Pearl Poet s Sir Gawain and the Green Knight
fable furthers the sexist patriarchy, while Chaucer s The Miller s Tale actively dismantles
conventional female roles. Both tale s descriptions of females, comments from the male
protagonists, and the character development of each story s most prominent female character
demonstrate the contrasting views in these texts.
When examining Middle Age texts through their gender roles, one must first consider the
descriptive words used to depict the story s males and females. The Pearl Poet s Sir Gawain and
the Green Knight draws upon the era s traditional concepts of male and female roles. This is
exemplified when the fable opens with tales of brave mythological heroes such as world
controlling Romulus and Aeneas, who represent the Middle Age s idealized male roles of strength
and superiority. In contrast, the first female is described through her clothes and delicate external
beauty, objectifying and fetishizing her: Queen Guenevere gaily dressed and placed in the middle,
seated on the upper

Proposition to Reface Mount Rushmore
Over the years, America has produced many people worthy of having their faces chiseled into a
large rock for all to see. Although the current Mount Rushmore possesses faces that are very
important and worthy, they are no longer relevant in today s society. The proposition I have for
the re facing of Mount Rushmore is sure to be relevant and inspiring to Americans for centuries to
come. Edgar Allen Poe was an American poet and short story composer whose writings have
influenced literature for a century and a half. Calvin Coolidgewas a strong leader who was
appointed to presidential office in the 1920s. He also had a very awesome last name. Bob Dylanis a
nearly prophetic poet and song writer, the voice of a generation, and an inspiration to many.
Jennifer (Stelter) Schubert is a tenacious woman who has overcame trials and tribulations
daunting to any human and came out on top. I propose that the faces of Edgar Allen Poe, Calvin
Coolidge, Bob Dylan, and Jennifer Schubert be carved into Mount Rushmore for their impact on
past and present American society, leadership qualities, and overall awesomeness. Edgar Allen
Poe is credited with the composition a poem that has been extremely prominent throughout the
past century and a half The Raven . But this was not the only work that has stuck with Americans
all of these years; Poe was a man of many talents and troubles. Edgar Allen Poe was born to two
actors whom he never really got to know. He was separated from his siblings

The Cud Life Concert Analysis

The Importance Of Traditional Values
In addition to religion, although it fits in with this topic, the traditional values seem to rule
families today and continue to cause problems with not only the issue of sexuality, but gender as
well. The traditional american family values very often include: oppositions to pre marital sex,
same sex marriage, some elements of feminism, abortion while actively supporting abstinence
education, and separation of church and state; but these values include the beliefs in: Christian
based values, traditional home based roles for women, the males being the head of household,
and programs and public policies that shield their children from exploitation, (Taylor). It is
obvious where conflict will arise when the values bluntly state that there is an opposition to same
sex marriage, but the additional conflict of religion will also contribute to more rising conflict.
These conflicts take place in schools, college campuses, families, churches, and in politics, as it
has been seen; what about adults lives in the workforce? In the United States, only 21 states
currently have protections in place for LGBT employees to prevent discrimination ( Past LGBT
Nondiscrimination and Anti LGBT Bills Across the Country. ). The LGBTQ community earns as

Further on, new technology has become a threat to our brains because it causes distractions. I
personally have suffered from distractions on the Net while doing school work on it, and also
while I use the Net to read. Some examples of distractions on the Net are advertisements, and
getting carried away browsing other websites. Another reason why new technology has become
a threat to our brains, is because we value efficiency over quality, which is detrimental both to
our brains and quality of our work. For example, I have found out that while it is easier and
quicker to acquire information on the Net, it is harder for our minds to process the information
and our quality of work is sometimes poor. Another reason why the Net is a threat to our brains
and detrimental to our mind is the essay Does Texting Affect Writing? by Michaela Cullington. In

Aisha bint Abu Bakr was a leader, a woman, a wife, a theologian, a scholar and a political activist.
She was precocious, loyal, brave and remarkably intelligent. These aspects of her humble life have
allowed her to make a powerful impact on the development and expression of Islam that no woman

by teaching it to others.
It is the claim of Islamic scholars that without Aisha, half of the Ilm I Hadith (understanding and

This also contributed to the spread of Islam, as many of her students came from places around the
world. Therefore, Aisha established the importance of education in the Islamic tradition by
modelling it and educating others. Another active role Aisha played in the development and
expression of Islam was as a political activist. Due to her close companionship with the Prophet
Muhammad, Aisha gained sufficient knowledge of warfare to be able to participate in battles. An
example of this is the Battle of the Camel, in which Aisha led opposition forces against the newly
appointed caliph, Ali. The fact that after their defeat, Ali captured Aisha but declined to harm her

actions that were undertaken by Aisha, as a political activist, gives inspiration to all Muslims

which is a fundamental part of belonging to Islam ( submission to Allah ). Through the qualities of

Both Vygotsky and Piaget s theories about how children develop cognitively, directly relate to a
constructivist view of learning. Give 5 ways these 2 theorists relate to a constructivist view of
learning. Be specific with examples. There are five ways in which Piaget s theory of cognitive
development and Vygotsky s theory of the Zone of Proximal Development. The very first way
that teachers can use these theories to teach constructively is by providing scaffolded instruction
within the ZPD for their students (Snowman and McCown, 2013). In other words, a teacher must
be able to assist children in achieving a goal that may be slightly too difficult for them to reach
alone. An example of this would be if a teacher had decided that her class should do an experiment
on how well plants grow based on the amount of water they receive, she could challenge her
students to make a hypothesis about what they think will happen. This teacher could allow her
students to individually plant their seeds and then guiding her students to predict or hypothesize
what they believe will happen if one plant gets more water than another. This example directly
correlates with Vygotsky s idea of ZPD because the students do not know how to use the scientific
method for a science experiment, however, with the teacher s assistance, they were able to fully
complete it. A second avenue that educators can take when wishing to instruct constructively is by
providing their students with

resolve or prevent such issues, it is key to learn about the security of your network. Network
security is the protection of networks that help secure files and directories of a computer. It helps
protect the user from hackers, virus attacks, misuse and prevents unauthorized access. The
importance of learning and becoming aware of network security is important for protecting yourself

that showed up in the pivotal 1874 presentation, however more as of late, the Moscow picture has
been favoured.
Monet has been portrayed as the main thrust behind Impressionism . Essential to the art of the
Impressionist painters was the comprehension of the effects of light on the local colour of objects,
and the impacts of the contrast of hues with each other. Monet s long profession as a painter was
spent in the quest for this aim.
In 1856, his shot meeting with Eugene Boudin, a painter of little beaches, opened his eyes to the
idea of plein air painting. From that time, with a short intrusion for military administration, he
committed himself to hunting down better than ever strategies for painterly expression.
In 1877 a progression of works of art at St Lazare Station had Monet taking a gander at smoke and
steam and the way that they influenced shading and perceivability, being here and there misty and
some of the time translucent. He was to further utilize this in study in the painting of the effects of
mist and rain on the landscape. The investigation of the impacts of climate was to develop into
various arrangements of works of art in which Monet often painted a similar subject in various
lights, at various hours of the day, and through the

Comparing The Television Series Mad Men
Traditional Gender Ideology in the 1960 s
Before 1994 gender role attitudes were not seen as egalitarian. In fact, society was nowhere near to
accepting the fact that men and women are equal. Traditional ideologies during this time was that
men go to work to support the household and women stay home to manage the household by
cooking and cleaning. Although these stereotypes were the status quote; the women of the 1960 s
were trying to breakdown those stereotypical doors. I chose the television series Mad Men because
it gives an inside look on the roles of men and women in the 1960 s and how they were viewed.
Mad Men is filled with dominant and hardworking men in the 1960 s but the women on this show
are constantly seen as the lesser ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yet, there were also many women in the 1960 s who were done with the traditional stereotypes.
Although there were women s movements happening before the 1960 s, like the suffrage
movement, the movements became more prominent and demanding for change. Referring to Mad
Men, the series used perfect example as to how women were trying to break that glass ceiling in
the workforce. Even though Peggy Olsen and Joan Holloway were total opposites, they sought out
the same dream. Which was to be a part of something bigger than being a secretary to an office full
of corporate men. They both fought for equal rights and took a stand on feminism. Like Peggy and
Joan, women in the real were doing just as such. Movements were being created like, National
Organization for Women. Along, with the movements, there was a shift in the category based
expectancy of women and their sex lives. Sex was not being discussed on television, in the home,
and sometimes not even between husband and wife. Along with movements came the controversy
of sex in the 1960 s. In Mad Men Joan was considered a woman if the night. She struggled with
the criticism of reproductive health options. Women of this time were ashamed to even receive
birth control because of the backlash from men and even the women. Receiving birth control or
considering an abortion was frowned upon. Even though women were given the option to use those
resources, it was like they were still not able to

Alzheimer s Disease Analysis
Alzheimer s disease is a degenerative, neurological disease that affects millions of people every
year. It is a specific type of dementia that affects both memory and cognitive functions. The cause
of the disease has been well studied along with many types of ion interactions that either lessen or
worsen symptoms. Currently there is no treatment for this disease, but many researchers are
working to find a cure.
Alzheimer s disease is categorized by slight impaired memory to severe cognitive loss (Mayeux,
2010). This can be seen by a loss in retaining new memories as well as a decrease in language,
reasoning and decision making (Mayeux, 2010). This disease is progressive and patients only get
worse with time and it finally ends in death with both mental and functional disabilities (Mayeux,
2010). This is seen mainly in people 65 and older and studies have shown that age and aging is the
highest risk factor for the developing the disease (Lundkvist, 2014).
The disease was discovered by a German neuropsychiatrist by the name of Alois Alzheimer. One of
his patients died after having ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Nanosolar Case
Nanosolar, Inc. Case Solution
Case Problem
Martin Roscheisen, CEO of Nanosolar must decide on the market they are going to focus,
whether it s Europe which has feed in tariff plans with long term commitment (20 yrs) or jump
start into the nascent but high potential US market. The other problem plaguing him is the
pricing and sales strategy to be employed. A low pricing strategy is imperative for the US market
as there are many players in it, as for Europe having a reliable pricing schedule it s all about pricing
vis a vis its major competitor First Solar.
Sales Strategy
The major markets for Nanosolar is going to be Europe and US, and in the long run they have to go
for the emerging economies which promises immense potential. ... Show more content on

default market to be targeted by Nanosolar
France
* France is committed to renewable energy source, with the government setting a target of 20% of
all energy source to be renewable by 2020 * There is also a stable feed in tariff (being backed by
the government for 20 yrs) of $0.42/kWh * Taking into account a 1% (CPI in year 2008) decline
year on year, we have an average tariff of $0.38/kWh * But the market size remains small, with a
meagre potential of 300MW by 2011
Italy
* It also has feed in tariff (modelled on Germany s) of $0.59 for 20 yrs and declining annually at
2% * This makes an average tariff of $0.49/kWh which is higher than the others * Moreover the
market potential is said to reach 3GW by 2016, this market is very lucrative and should definitely
be a potential target
United States Market * The major issue with the US market was the lack of a national
framework for feed in tariff, but many states has recently come up with their own policy *
Florida came up with a feed in tariff plan of $0.32/kWh for 20 yrs, but the most significant
incentive for the manufacturers is the 30% tax credit given by the government * This along with
other federal support (such as loans and rebates) provides the much needed push in the high
potential market * With the effect of carbon tax set to increase the cost of other energy sources,
solar power will become a more viable option in the future * Thus even though the short term

Pollinate The Almond Bees In California
There is a major bee issue in California. Honey bees are being used to pollinate the almond trees
in California, and many are dying. Without bees we wouldn t have flowers, and most of nature
would be different and/or destroyed. Which is naturally without the help of bees keeping it
alive. I believe that what California Almond companies do to bees is terrible. And it needs to be
changed as soon as possible. 1.6 million bee colonies are placed in the almond farms in
California each year to pollinate the almond trees. To get there from all over the U.S. bee owners
must use crates and put the bees on trucks and drive them across states. Many die on their way
there from distress, panic from leaving their original colonies, and even dying from

Paid Employment in the Home Essay
Paid Employment in the Home
In her book The Second Shift, Arlie Hochschild describes how two job married couples in the
United States deal with the structural problem of the domestic work shift, i.e., that when both
members of a marriage work outside of the home, the domestic work becomes an added burden to
one or both of the members in addition to their outside jobs. Modern society has increased the
work load of the family, thereby increasing tension in marriages and taking away time for leisure
and recreation for both spouses. Hochschild calls this a stalled revolution (12) because women s
entrance into the full time workforce has yet to bring about the necessary structural change in
American family life. Assuming that this state ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the 40 percent increase conveys the drastic growth of the home work population,
which seems to be generalizable to smaller sub groups of the home work population as defined
below. Because this movement back into the home is relatively new and because of its current
relatively small size, it is difficult for social scientists to get large enough samples to make
judgments about the characteristics of home work (Kraut 1989). Home work is seen in the
current literature in both highly optimistic and strongly negative terms, and the size of the work
at home population has been described as less than 2 percent of the U.S. labor force (Shamir
1992, p. 280) and nearly one quarter of the labor force (Farmanfarmaian 1989, p. 37). These
contradictions are due to both the size of this group of workers, as mentioned earlier, and a lack
of agreement between researchers on a definition of the home worker (for example, how many
hours of work at home per week, working out of the home vs. working at home, etc.).
Robert Kraut (1989) groups home workers into 3 categories: substitutors, the self employed, and
supplementers. Substitutors are those who work at home regularly, either full time or part time, as
a substitution for working in an office. They can be subcontractors or participants in a corporate
work at home

Research Paper On Dracula
this is the definition of folklore, and from these stories we get a multitude of myths and
speculation of what happens to us when we die. They range from just disappearing into
nothingness to becoming a higher being or going into a higher plain of existence. There are ideas
however, of a life on this earth after we die for those who have committed crimes or have not been
buried properly, we become the other, the supernatural or ultimately the undead. The most common
of which is the vampire. One of the most known vampires from literature is Bram Stoker s Dracula
(1897) who is portrayed as a blood thirty, emotionless monster, which is the idea most often
portrayed in folklore. This is a stark contrast from Anne Rice s (1976) portal of a . The
traditional idea of a monstrous creature who haunts the night is seen as an old idea and that
people s views of the supernatural are changing to a more humane, beautiful creature, not of a
demon. This could be due to the popularity in teen and young adult fiction that happened in the
late 1900 s. This change from traditional folklore is due to the way we perceive things are
changing due to the influence of different cultures and ideas. Most of our ideas of vampires have
changed from the traditional views to a beautiful human creature: seen in Twilight , Vampire Knight
, Vampire Academy , and Anita Blake . These novels do have some elements of the monster
portrayed in Dracula and folklore but the main characters are the

The Corruptive Nature of Power in J. J. R. Tolkien’s The...
When given, or exposed to power, people may become corrupt. In J. J. R. Tolkien s The
Fellowship of the Ring it is shown that when people are tempted or given power they may become
corrupt. We can see this through the characters Frodo Baggins; the bearer of a powerful ring,
Gollum, the previous bearer, and lastly it is shown through Bilbo Bagginsanother bearer.
When given great power some people become corrupt. Frodo Baggins displays this in The
Fellowship of the Ring. He is trusted to hold and protect the one ring of power and immediately he
develops traits that show that he is becoming excessively protective of the ring. Frodo drew the
Ring out of his pocket again and looked at it. It now appeared plain and smooth, without mark or ...

191). During this event Frodo is being attacked by enemies. At the same time the power of the ring
is tempting. He gives in because he is already corrupt with the power of the ring. This shows that
when he has the power he abuses it and becomes corrupt.
Gollum, previously known as Smeagol, is one of the first bearers of the ring of power, and
when he comes into the ring s presence for the first time, the power makes him so corrupt that to
get his hands on it he kills his friend Deagol. Smeagol had been watching him from behind a tree,
and as Deagol gloated over the ring, Smeagol came softly up behind. Give us that, Deagol, my
love, said Smeagol, over his friend s shoulder. Why? said Deagol. Because it s my birthday, my
love, and I wants it, said Smeagol. I don t care, said Deagol. I have given you a present already,
more than I could afford. I found this, and I m going to keep it. Oh, are you indeed, my love,
said Smeagol; and he caught Deagol by the throat and strangled him, because the gold looked so
bright and beautiful. Then he put the ring on his finger (Tolkein Pg. 52). This text shows that
Gollum, or Smeagol, is corrupt due to the rings power only by being around it. The need for the
ring was so great that it pushed him to kill, a devastating act on its own, but he kills his own
friend. This proves that with the power of the ring Gollum becomes immensely corrupt. After
Gollum first obtains the ring he grows to feel a great hatred

  • 2. Bill Clinton Immigration Policy Analysis Immigration: If elected, Clinton plans to reform the immigration system within the first 100 days in office. Her plan will treat every person with dignity, fix the family visa backlog, uphold the rule of law, protect our borders and national security, and bring millions of hardworking people into the formal economy. She will fight to terminate the three and ten year bars that bar illegal immigrants that must return to apply for a green card from returning for three to ten years. In terms of President Obama s executive actions DACA and DAPA (programs that allow for deportation exemptions and work permits in certain circumstances), Clinton believes these are within the realm of executive authority and plans to defend them. In Clinton s plan,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She believes that all students should have the opportunity to graduate from colleges in their state without racking up thousands and thousands of dollars in debt. She cites that families that have an income under $125,000 won t pay for tuition in in state colleges by 2021. While during her first term she pledges to make in state public college free for families that make up to $85,000. Building on Obama s plans, Clinton promises to make community colleges free of tuition. She believes that states need to invest in higher education while colleges should consistently be working to control tuition costs. She wants to give extra aid to historically black colleges as well as other institutions that aid minorities. In Clinton s plan, no one will have to pay more than 10% of their income to student loan bills, after 20 years the debt is forgiven. Borrowers that are struggling will be given aid and Hillary wants to drastically cut interest rates for future borrowers and so that the government is never profiting from student loans. Clinton would like to simplify the process, and entice employers to help with student loan debt, while entrepreneurs should be allowed to defer their loans, and in certain circumstances the government should forgive up to $17,500 while they are in the process of risk taking. A big part of Clinton s plan is just reducing penalties against borrowers and making refinancing simpler. Clinton plans to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Benefits Of Organic Farming As we have been discussing in class, the debate on organic food has been rising. Many say that it is the way of the future, while many others say it is going back to the ways of the past. When synthetic chemical fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides are currently some of the most used things in farming today to help facilitate perfect growing conditions and increase yields, could it be possible for organic farmers compete with them? If organic farmingwere to become the go to method of farming, we have to ask: Is organic farming globally sustainable? While there may be many ways to answer this question while looking at different aspects of the organic movement and their definitions, one answer in particular jumped out at me. Organic farming is not globally sustainable because it is not efficient enough to serve the global market. Sustainability is one of the top issues when it comes to farming today. Farmers need to consider the effect they are having on their land when using certain practices and products. For this reason, it is important to remember that organic and conventional farming both require extensive work to maintain their products and to provide for the consumer. As we have seen in Steven Shapin s essay What Are You Buying When You Buy Organic , in where he references Michael Pollan talking about Asparagus, which had been grown in Argentina, [and] air freighted six thousand miles to the States (433) , the role of the consumer is not limited to those in ... Fredrick Douglass Response to Uncle Tom s Cabin Frederick Douglass was arguably the most prominent African American abolitionist during the mid 19th century. He established his notoriety through his narrative entitled Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave published in 1845. Frederick Douglass also produced an African American newspaper, Frederick Douglass Paper, which highlighted the reception and critiques of Harriet Beecher Stowe s Uncle Tom s Cabin. Frederick Douglass praised Uncle Tom s Cabin through not only his writing but in the critiques and letters contained in his newspaper. On 2 December 1853, Douglass himself wrote and published a letter to Harriet Beecher Stowe concerning her added involvement in abolitionism in Frederick Douglass Paper. In this letter Douglass directly, under his own name, praises Uncle Tom s Cabin as a useful tool in the fight for abolitionism. He writes, I desire to express, dear Madam, my deep sense of the value of the services which you have already rendered my afflicted and persecuted people, by the publication of your inimitable book on the subject of slavery. That contribution to our bleeding cause, alone, involves us in a debt of gratitude which cannot be measured . . . . (Douglass) . By writing this letter, Douglass establishes the novel as both valuable and sympathetic to the plight of the enslaved African American. His stature as the premiere African American abolitionist affirms this to the public. However, Douglass politics on colonization were in direct opposition to Uncle Tom s Cabin. The Movement For Higher Education The Movement for Higher Education in Nursing Bernis Sosa Luzerne County Community College Abstract New programs, courses, experiences and changing requirements for the development of new skills pave the way for different opportunities for students to prepare for initial and continuing practice in a rapidly changing society (Cherry Jacob, 2014, p. 36). As a nurse there are so many great opportunities. You can become a nurse by enrolling in different types of programs. Those available programs today include diploma, associates, or bachelor s degree. The Movement for Higher Education in Nursing Nurses in today s society should be required to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) as the minimal degree required to practice as a registered nurse. A baccalaureates degree provides great outcomes for both the patient and the nurse. While in that type of nursing program the nurse will be able to gain more expertise. These programs provide the nursing student greater depth in learning about the multiple disease processes that can be encountered with patients. BSN programs focus more emphasis on the family and community and health promotion and illness and prevention; a large part of clinical experience is in diverse community settings (Cherry Jacob, 2014, p. 52). Upon obtaining the BSN you will be able to further your education if you decide you would like to specialize in a certain area. Most specialty areas require the BSN degree for practice and as preparation for specialty certification. Admission into master programs usually requires a BSN or other degree (Cherry Jacob, 2014, p. 52). Choosing to Become a Nurse Because of the multitude of changes, registered nurses need strong critical thinking skills that enable them to change old and incorporate new care practices, as well as the ability to approach clinical issues using multiple ways of thinking (Newton Moore, 2013, p. 154). • 6. The Importance of Social Media to Activism Essay Lindsey Brown Professor Daren Dean English 2000 22 March 2013 You Cannot Ignore the Importance of Social Media According to Dictionary.reference.com, activism is the policy or action of using campaigning to bring about political or social change. A huge campaign that is well known across the world, the Civil Rights Movement, was brought about by Martin Luther King, Jr. King risked his life everyday to ensure justice and equality for the African American race. Small Change by Malcolm Gladwell gives insight on how activism is more effective than social media, especially from one scenario at the Woolworth s lunch counter in Greensboro, North Carolina. Another drawback is the potential to cause riots or outbreaks in a school, town, or even a country. The countless amount of bullying that happens on social networks is evidence that if social media participants are not careful about what they post on their social media pages and on the Internet for public viewing, it can possibly trigger bias or prejudice judgments. Social networking sites began to become popular in 2002 and although still in their youth, it has many disadvantages that should not be overlooked. People should not have to be worried about what they put on social networks because as Americans, we have freedom of speech. Thus it is reasonable for people to be skeptical and oppose social media when runs the risk of being counterproductive. No matter how much potential social media has for political or societal change it is important to criticize its negative aspects. An article written by Andrea Moncada, begins her argument with the question has social media had the same impact on advocacy. Similar to Gladwell s points of view, Moncada states, social media can help get the word around, but participants must be united by a core message and traditional methods... This source of uncertainty is the basis for its support and is understandable. • 8. Symbolism In The Bloody Chamber Angela Carter s The Bloody Chamber depicts a woman as the heroic figure who represents persistence, vigor, and passion as she continually encourages and inevitably saves her daughter from the grips of death. Carter s attempt to effectively portray a woman as an animal like hero is done so by the mother as seen progressively throughout the story. At the same age as her daughter now, the heroine already accomplished so much and created an identity illustrating her beastliness, power, womanhood, and strength. In The Bloody Chamber, Carter s nameless heroine is in fact the motherdue to her fierce and ferocious attitude as she is explored throughout the story from her daughters admiring descriptions and her own fearless actions. The girl is eager to marry the marquis so she can transform into a woman and develop a strong identity as her mother has. The girl admiringly notices that her mother is eagle featured, indomitable, which illustrates a fierce and tough exterior that correlates to her personality (Carter 2). Boasting that her mother outfaced a junkful of Chinese pirates, nursed a village through a visitation of the plague, shot a man eating tiger with her own hand, as this depicts the girl s mother as a strong independent character who stands tall in the face of adversity (Carter 2). Her beastliness is evident as we are now aware that the mother has killed a tiger with her very own hands and she would not mind doing it again. After the father died, the mother was distraught but prevailed through her misery able to grow into an even stronger woman and mother for her daughter. As the girl reflects on such a difficult period in their lives we are able to see how much her mother s growth also affected her as she states, my mother... had gladly, scandalously, defiantly, beggared herself for love... grown magnificently eccentric in hardship which illustrates her mother did not allow her grief to control her or inhibit her abilities to be a mom (Carter 2). Being a single parent helped her flourish as a mother and as a person. The mother is already portrayed as a strong female figure before this information is introduced but after the audience gains this knowledge about her, it is clear that the mother is ... • 9. Trail Of Tears Sparknotes Most Americans have at least some vague understanding of the Trail of Tears, but not many know about the events that led to that tragic removal of thousands of Indians from their homeland. Indian lands were held hostage by the states and the federal government. The Indians had to agree to removal to maintain their tribe identities. Trail of Tears is an excellent example of a particular situation and will be eye opening to those who are not familiar with the story of the southern tribes and their interactions with the rapidly growing American population. The Trail of Tears has become the symbol in American history that indicates the callousness, insensitivity, and cruelty of American government toward American Indians in 1839 and 1839. The book The Trail of Tears: The Rise and fall of the Cherokee Nation, by John Ehle displays the full history of a Native American democratic state, which is the Cherokee Nation. Like the United States, it was born in bloodshed and war, but instead of continuing to last, it grew for only a few years and then was destroyed by President Andrew Jackson and the government of the state of Georgia. Ehle includes a great deal of primary sources, such as journals, military orders, letters, etc., that serve to enrich the story. In Trail of Tears, John Ehle introduces the people and events that led to the Trail of Tears, and the removal of the Cherokee Nation to Indian Territory. In the Indian Territory the Indians were promised that whites ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The proposed merger would help both organizations by economizing on costs and expanding the artistic potential of both organizations. Each of the organizations need to support the decision in order for the merger to be successful. A1. Bill Bailey and McClelland s Need Theory Bill Bailey, chairman of the board for the Utah Opera,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Scott Parker can utilize Adam s equity theory to persuade Mrs. Abravanel to support the merger. The equity theory in essence is when individuals seek to maintain equity based on the inputs they produce and the outcomes they receive from their inputs as compared to others perceived inputs and outcomes. A balance between inputs and outputs is strived for because it leads to fairness and improved relations. Mrs. Abravanel s opposition to the merger could be because of a perceived unfairness based on the efforts her husband put into to bringing the Utah Symphony up to world class stature. Mrs. Abravanel sees the symphony as the dominant party in the merger. This is apparent by Mrs. Abravanel s statement, Maurice would never take second billing to anyone (Delong amp; Ager, 2005). Parker must show Mrs. Abravanel that the merger will help alleviate some of the financial stress the symphony is facing and increase the success and visibility of both organizations. In order to convince Mrs. Abravanel to support the merger, Parker needs to explain the rationale behind the merger as well as understand why Mrs. Abravanel sees the merger as unfair and inequitable. In order to sway Mrs. Abravanel to support the merger, Parker can offer Mrs. Abravanel a seat to participate in the merger discussions. Mrs. Abravanel s perceived unfairness would be assuaged by giving her a voice in the discussions (input) and a say in the outcomes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Comparing The Contributions Of Andrew Jackson And John Ross In this situation I do not believe that there is a hero. As the first article states, there are two sides to every story, and as it also states there are few saints in this tale. Despite Andrew Jackson s positive contributions, such as insuring that Cherokees were given equal pay, he still massacred thousands of Native Americans. He signed the Indian Removal Act, which prompted the Trail of Tears, one of the darkest events in American History in which 13,000 Cherokees were forced to walk miles from their homeland. It also resulted in the Florida Seminoles, a war lasting nearly as long as the Iraq war. John Ross was not perfect as well. Though he actively fought for the right of his people, he was a slave owner. It seems rather hypocritical for one to be fighting for the rights of one group of people while treating another like nothing more than objects. Despite this, John Ross did try and create change by working with allies that were white and by taking his peoples case to the Supreme Court.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Complex Variety and Uses of the Senecio Genus Senecio is a huge genus in the family Asteracea, which in turn is one of the biggest families: meaning Senecio is one of the most largest genus in the world with up to 3000 species found. (Voss, 1985) Since then, phylogeny has separated many members of the Senecio genus and reclassified them as Packera. However, Packera spp. are still complex, so much so that Robert Kowal discovered a new species on Isle Royal in Michigan in 2011, and aptly named it Packera insulae regalis. According to Kowal, The populations that are currently grouped under the name Packera paupercula do represent a motley lot that should be split into a handful of species. (personal communication, 8/1/2013) The plant P. paupercula, also known as Life Root or Balsam Ragwort, is a dwarf member of Alvar habitats reaching heights of two feet. The entire plant can be incredibly variable: basal leaves can range from medium to long petioled, and obovate to oblong or oblanceolate in shape. The margins are usually toothed with serrations that vary from lobed to pinnatified, and leaf apexes that are either blunt or tipped. Cauline leaves are individual to many, smaller, deeply serrated and partially to fully clasping the stem. P. paupercula is known for its pubescence, especially at the leaf axils. The golden inflorescence are capitate and more or less flat topped. As summer comes into full swing, the petals can be seen falling off one by one until poof a pappus and achene are all that remains. But, by being so new to society how can we know about any risks about such new discoveries. One of the recent developments, created in the last two decades, is the Laser Hair Removal Treatment. What is this new development and how effective is it? What is Laser Hair Removal? Laser hair removal is a Cosmetic procedure that uses laser beams to remove unwanted hair from the body. This basic principle behind this program is selective photothermolysis which, in Greek, creates the words light, heat and destruction that describes the process of the surgery. The machine creates a highly intensified light that passes through the skin and targets the melanin (pigmentation) which absorbs the energy, damages the papilla, then heat is conducted outwards to destroy the germ cells that are on the hair shaft while leaving the surrounding tissue somewhat undamaged. FTC rulings include: do not call legislation, funeral industry regulation, and antitrust rulings in the petroleum industry. While the structure of the federal government was and still is the executive branch, the legislative branch, and the judicial branch, those branches have each taken on many more responsibilities as needed to keep up with the progression of America. Put in place by the founding fathers, Federalism was intended to balance the power of the national and state governments so that the national government could not acquire too much power. The executive branch, the legislative branch, and the judicial branch still exist today as when first created, on a much larger scale. Extensive modification in the executive branch since the late eighteenth century has been the growth of the number of departments, agencies, and other offices. The study found that no matter the setting there is evidence that leadership competence is an important aspect to athletic training. Ronald Reagan Commemorative Speech Second Main Point Description of Speech a.Brief summary of speech Ronald Reagan s address is a commemorative speech meant to honor the victims of the Challenger disaster and bring hope to a nation facing tragedy by encouraging the continuation of space travel. According to our textbook, a commemorative speech is When we speak to praise, memorialize, or celebrate...a person, event, or idea (Houck, ch. 4). In this speech, Reagan s main focus is to memorialize the victims of the Challenger disaster, but he also aims to celebrate and praise their dedication to exploration. i. During this address to the nation, Ronald Reagan followed chronological order by first comparing the disaster to other space faring disasters that previously occurred, then discussing Challenger itself, and finally providing his vision for hope and continuing exploration in the future. ii. Organizing his speech in this way was very effective to reassure Americans that the nation would rise up from this tragedy. By first discussing tragedies of the past, saying, Nineteen years ago, almost to the day, we lost three astronauts in a terrible accident on the ground. But we ve never lost an astronaut in flight. We ve never had a tragedy like this (Eidenmuller), Reagan acknowledges that the country has overcome tragedies before, even if they were different. Alternative Methods Of The NIPG DGFEM Superconvergence subsection{NIPG DGFEM Superconvergence 2011} Now that the continuous standard Galerkin solution over a quasi uniform mesh may oscillate as $epsilon to 0$. An alternative tool will be a discontinuous Galerkin (DG) method where the oscillation can be avoided provided that an appropriate mesh refinement is applied, to capture the boundary layer behavior. The origins of the DG methods can be traced back to the seventies where they had been proposed as variational methods for numerically solving initial value problems and transport problems. It is well known that the DG methods, in particular the local DG (LDG) method cite{210}, are highly stable and effective for convection diffusion problems cite{211}. On the other hand, non symmetric discontinuous Galerkin method with interior penalty (the NIPG method), originally designed for elliptic equations, is analyzed by Zarin and Roos cite{87} for convection diffusion problems with parabolic layers. A disadvantage of DG method is that the method produces more degrees of freedom than the continuous finite element method (CFEM). With this motivation, this work derives and analyzes a coupled approach of LDG and CFEM on a layer adapted Shishkin mesh for singularly perturbed convection diffusion problems. By splitting the domain into the coarse and the fine part, we adopt the CFEM with linear elements in the fine part where the mesh size is comparable with $epsilon$, and use LDG method in the coarse part for its stabilization. The idea of combining DG and CFEM to obtain the advantages of both methods is not new. Despite the advances in steam technology, however, sailing ships continued to dominate the world s oceans for many years to come. Unlike steamers they did not depend on the availability of coal and were simply much cheaper to run. This was particularly evident in voyages to the Far East, reached from Europe via the Cape of Good Hope at Africa s south ern tip and from America across the Indian Ocean. This changed in 1869 with the opening of the Suez Canal. As a result of this, the Far East and Australia were opened up to steamers bearing passengers and mail from the Europe. Moreover, the first attempts at reform were occurring, causing assimilation and not much thought on sexism or the era s prevalent misogyny. Yet, writers whether deliberately or unintentionally included gender roles in their text, as they play a considerable role in all aspects of society. Genderroles are apparent in both the Pearl Poet and Geoffrey Chaucer s stories. However, the Pearl Poet s Sir Gawain and the Green Knight fable furthers the sexist patriarchy, while Chaucer s The Miller s Tale actively dismantles conventional female roles. Both tale s descriptions of females, comments from the male protagonists, and the character development of each story s most prominent female character demonstrate the contrasting views in these texts. When examining Middle Age texts through their gender roles, one must first consider the descriptive words used to depict the story s males and females. The Pearl Poet s Sir Gawain and the Green Knight draws upon the era s traditional concepts of male and female roles. This is exemplified when the fable opens with tales of brave mythological heroes such as world controlling Romulus and Aeneas, who represent the Middle Age s idealized male roles of strength and superiority. In contrast, the first female is described through her clothes and delicate external beauty, objectifying and fetishizing her: Queen Guenevere gaily dressed and placed in the middle, seated on the upper ... The very first way that teachers can use these theories to teach constructively is by providing scaffolded instruction within the ZPD for their students (Snowman and McCown, 2013). In other words, a teacher must be able to assist children in achieving a goal that may be slightly too difficult for them to reach alone. The importance of learning and becoming aware of network security is important for protecting yourself and others around you. I will be discussing the common type of attacks, methods to protect your computer from harm and discuss what the future may hold for network security. There are many attacks that can be associated with network security, eavesdropping, viruses /malware and Trojans, phishing, IP spoofing attackand lastly denial of service. Eavesdropping, has two subcategories passive and active. Passive eavesdropping refers to someone listening to a phone call, or reading a chat email (Daya, Bhavya). Active eavesdropping refers to the hacker physically going in and distressing the conversation (Daya, Bhavya). This type of attack allows the hacker to steal confidential information. • 38. Claude Manet – Impressionism – 19Th . Oscar-Claude Monet Claude Manet Impressionism 19th Oscar Claude Monet was a founder of French Impressionist painting, and the most consistent and productive expert of the movement s philosophy of communicating one s observations before nature particularly applied to plein air landscape painting. The expression Impressionism is from the title of his piece Impression, soleil levant (Impression, Sunrise), which was shown in 1874 in the first of the independent presentations mounted by Monet and his partners as an alternate choice to the Salon de Paris. Monet s aspiration of painting the French countryside drove him to embrace a technique for painting the same scene repeatedly, trying to catch the changing of light and the death of the seasons. Monet painted the subject twice, and it is unknown which of the two pictures was the artwork that showed up in the pivotal 1874 presentation, however more as of late, the Moscow picture has been favoured. Monet has been portrayed as the main thrust behind Impressionism . Essential to the art of the Impressionist painters was the comprehension of the effects of light on the local colour of objects, and the impacts of the contrast of hues with each other. Monet s long profession as a painter was spent in the quest for this aim. In 1856, his shot meeting with Eugene Boudin, a painter of little beaches, opened his eyes to the idea of plein air painting. From that time, with a short intrusion for military administration, he committed himself to hunting down better than ever strategies for painterly expression. In 1877 a progression of works of art at St Lazare Station had Monet taking a gander at smoke and steam and the way that they influenced shading and perceivability, being here and there misty and some of the time translucent. He was to further utilize this in study in the painting of the effects of mist and rain on the landscape. The investigation of the impacts of climate was to develop into various arrangements of works of art in which Monet often painted a similar subject in various lights, at various hours of the day, and through the ... • 39. Comparing The Television Series Mad Men Traditional Gender Ideology in the 1960 s Before 1994 gender role attitudes were not seen as egalitarian. In fact, society was nowhere near to accepting the fact that men and women are equal. Traditional ideologies during this time was that men go to work to support the household and women stay home to manage the household by cooking and cleaning. Although these stereotypes were the status quote; the women of the 1960 s were trying to breakdown those stereotypical doors. I chose the television series Mad Men because it gives an inside look on the roles of men and women in the 1960 s and how they were viewed. Yet, there were also many women in the 1960 s who were done with the traditional stereotypes. Although there were women s movements happening before the 1960 s, like the suffrage movement, the movements became more prominent and demanding for change. Referring to Mad Men, the series used perfect example as to how women were trying to break that glass ceiling in the workforce. Even though Peggy Olsen and Joan Holloway were total opposites, they sought out the same dream. Which was to be a part of something bigger than being a secretary to an office full of corporate men. They both fought for equal rights and took a stand on feminism. Like Peggy and Joan, women in the real were doing just as such. Movements were being created like, National Organization for Women. Along, with the movements, there was a shift in the category based expectancy of women and their sex lives. Sex was not being discussed on television, in the home, and sometimes not even between husband and wife. Along with movements came the controversy of sex in the 1960 s. In Mad Men Joan was considered a woman if the night. She struggled with the criticism of reproductive health options. Women of this time were ashamed to even receive birth control because of the backlash from men and even the women. Receiving birth control or considering an abortion was frowned upon. Even though women were given the option to use those resources, it was like they were still not able to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Alzheimer s Disease Analysis Alzheimer s disease is a degenerative, neurological disease that affects millions of people every year. It is a specific type of dementia that affects both memory and cognitive functions. The cause of the disease has been well studied along with many types of ion interactions that either lessen or worsen symptoms. Currently there is no treatment for this disease, but many researchers are working to find a cure. Alzheimer s disease is categorized by slight impaired memory to severe cognitive loss (Mayeux, 2010). This can be seen by a loss in retaining new memories as well as a decrease in language, reasoning and decision making (Mayeux, 2010). This disease is progressive and patients only get worse with time and it finally ends in death with both mental and functional disabilities (Mayeux, 2010). This is seen mainly in people 65 and older and studies have shown that age and aging is the highest risk factor for the developing the disease (Lundkvist, 2014). A low pricing strategy is imperative for the US market as there are many players in it, as for Europe having a reliable pricing schedule it s all about pricing vis a vis its major competitor First Solar. • 43. Paid Employment in the Home Essay Paid Employment in the Home In her book The Second Shift, Arlie Hochschild describes how two job married couples in the United States deal with the structural problem of the domestic work shift, i.e., that when both members of a marriage work outside of the home, the domestic work becomes an added burden to one or both of the members in addition to their outside jobs. Modern society has increased the work load of the family, thereby increasing tension in marriages and taking away time for leisure and recreation for both spouses. Hochschild calls this a stalled revolution (12) because women s entrance into the full time workforce has yet to bring about the necessary structural change in American family life. Assuming that this state ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the 40 percent increase conveys the drastic growth of the home work population, which seems to be generalizable to smaller sub groups of the home work population as defined below. Because this movement back into the home is relatively new and because of its current relatively small size, it is difficult for social scientists to get large enough samples to make judgments about the characteristics of home work (Kraut 1989). Home work is seen in the current literature in both highly optimistic and strongly negative terms, and the size of the work at home population has been described as less than 2 percent of the U.S. labor force (Shamir 1992, p. 280) and nearly one quarter of the labor force (Farmanfarmaian 1989, p. 37). These contradictions are due to both the size of this group of workers, as mentioned earlier, and a lack of agreement between researchers on a definition of the home worker (for example, how many hours of work at home per week, working out of the home vs. working at home, etc.). Robert Kraut (1989) groups home workers into 3 categories: substitutors, the self employed, and supplementers. Substitutors are those who work at home regularly, either full time or part time, as a substitution for working in an office. They can be subcontractors or participants in a corporate work at home ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Research Paper On Dracula this is the definition of folklore, and from these stories we get a multitude of myths and speculation of what happens to us when we die. They range from just disappearing into nothingness to becoming a higher being or going into a higher plain of existence. There are ideas however, of a life on this earth after we die for those who have committed crimes or have not been buried properly, we become the other, the supernatural or ultimately the undead. The most common of which is the vampire. One of the most known vampires from literature is Bram Stoker s Dracula (1897) who is portrayed as a blood thirty, emotionless monster, which is the idea most often portrayed in folklore. This is a stark contrast from Anne Rice s (1976) portal of a . The traditional idea of a monstrous creature who haunts the night is seen as an old idea and that people s views of the supernatural are changing to a more humane, beautiful creature, not of a demon. This could be due to the popularity in teen and young adult fiction that happened in the late 1900 s. This change from traditional folklore is due to the way we perceive things are changing due to the influence of different cultures and ideas. Most of our ideas of vampires have changed from the traditional views to a beautiful human creature: seen in Twilight , Vampire Knight , Vampire Academy , and Anita Blake . These novels do have some elements of the monster portrayed in Dracula and folklore but the main characters are the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We can see this through the characters Frodo Baggins; the bearer of a powerful ring, Gollum, the previous bearer, and lastly it is shown through Bilbo Bagginsanother bearer. When given great power some people become corrupt. Frodo Baggins displays this in The Fellowship of the Ring. During this event Frodo is being attacked by enemies. At the same time the power of the ring is tempting. He gives in because he is already corrupt with the power of the ring. This shows that when he has the power he abuses it and becomes corrupt. Gollum, previously known as Smeagol, is one of the first bearers of the ring of power, and when he comes into the ring s presence for the first time, the power makes him so corrupt that to get his hands on it he kills his friend Deagol. Smeagol had been watching him from behind a tree, and as Deagol gloated over the ring, Smeagol came softly up behind. Give us that, Deagol, my love, said Smeagol, over his friend s shoulder. Why? said Deagol. Because it s my birthday, my love, and I wants it, said Smeagol. I don t care, said Deagol. I have given you a present already, more than I could afford. I found this, and I m going to keep it. Oh, are you indeed, my love, said Smeagol; and he caught Deagol by the throat and strangled him, because the gold looked so bright and beautiful. Then he put the ring on his finger (Tolkein Pg. 52). This text shows that Gollum, or Smeagol, is corrupt due to the rings power only by being around it. The need for the ring was so great that it pushed him to kill, a devastating act on its own, but he kills his own friend. This proves that with the power of the ring Gollum becomes immensely corrupt.
