Self-Targeting Sniper Rifle
At this years Black Hat hacker conference, security researchers, Runa Sandvik and Michael Auger,
will demonstrate how they are able to exploit the vulnerabilities of a self targeting sniper rifle to
change the scope s variables when planning out a shot, and even bricking the rifle altogether.
Sandvik and Auger Plan to Hack a Pair of $13,000 TrackingPoint Rifles
Sandvik and Auger are a married hacker couple and have spent a year researching a way to hack
into these smart rifles. The techniques allow a knowledgeable hacker to exploit its sight through Wi
Fi.
Once the rifle has been infected, a hacker can then use software to manipulate a scope s
calculations, disable the scope completely, or just prevent the gun from firing entirely. In a... Show

An attacker can lock a user out, preventing them from using the gun, or completely erase the gun s
file system. This would essentially render the scope useless, leaving the shooter to have to aim
manually.
The file system in TrackingPoint s self aiming system is a vital part of the scope. The system
allows a shooter to designate a target, which tells the computer to begin dialing in variables needed
to make an accurate shot. It s important to note that the gun will not fire until the shooter has pulled
the trigger. Once the trigger is pulled, the gun will then determine when the best time to fire is and
take the shot when the barrel is perfectly aligned.
TrackingPoint Are Already Working on an Upcoming Patch to Address the Exploit
Fortunately, Sandvik and Auger are working together with TrackingPoint in order to develop a
software patch that will quickly address the smart rifle s severe vulnerability. While it s not ready
yet, TrackingPoint founder, John McHale, said the company would be mailing out a USB drive to
customers in order to update their rifles as soon as

Remember The Tians Is A Sports Movie Based On A True Story
Remember the Tians is a sports movie based on a true story. The movie is about racism and how
the characters abandon prejudices between each other in order to win the game.
The 1970s was the era for American African civil rights movements. In Virginia, located in the
south center of the United States, the population were still very conservative. There s a high school
football team called the Titans with only white players. Yet, the school followed the racial
integration policy which accepted many black students. This caused the Titan team to become a
blended team. In addition, the school also demoted the already extremely successful white Coach
Yoast and let a black man Boone to be the head coach because of the policy. Many white students
and their parents protested and threatened they are going to quit. The residents were also are the
same as these students, as they had suspicious and had doubts. Black man in a superior position
towards a white man is a very dissonant combination, and the team players despised each other.
Even the school didn t support Coach Boone and claimed he will be replaced as soon as he loses
one game. It s not an easy job to train this team and trying to get them to co operate, he is not only
needing to hone the students playing skills but also the team morale and the contradiction between
him and the assistant coach. The worst thing is the whole society resist this blended team. In this
film, Coach Boone perfectly demonstrates the Five

Essay about Taxi Driver, Directed by Martin Scorsese
Taxi Driver
New York City that is depicted in Taxi Driver seems to be too real to be true. It is a place where
violence runs rampant, drugs are cheap, and sex is easy. This world may be all too familiar to many
that live in major metropolitan areas. But, in the film there is something interesting, and vibrant
about the streets that Travis Bickle drives alone, despite the amount of danger and turmoil that
overshadows everything in the nights of the city. In the film Taxi Driverdirector Martin Scorsese
and writer Paul Schrader find and express a trial that many people face, the search for belonging
and acceptance.
The character of Travis Bickle roams the nights in his taxi cab, and witnesses all of this open sewer ,

Travis thinks he wants to live a normal life, and get out of the hell he lives in, but not quite sure
how to go about getting out of this hell. Travis is also moderately insane but, nevertheless he
devises a plan to save the young prostitute, Iris, and himself from his taxi cab prison. The beauty
of this film climaxes when Travis goes to free Iris from the evil clutches of her pimp, Sport.
When Travis approaches Sport, a second time, a question arises, Why is Travis paying this
grotesque man another visit? but, then all is made clear when Travis draws his pistol and attempts
to liberate Iris from her prison.
The entire scene gives a strange feeling of redemption. Travis has redeemed himself from the
world that he lived in by ridding it of this evil and freeing something that has potential to become
something very beautiful. This redeeming feeling is reinforced when Scorsese s extreme overhead
angle is shot, frozen, and begins to retrace the path of blood and bodies that Travis has defeated to
save his damsel in distress, his Rapunzel, Iris.
The film ends with Travis, a hero for the day, returning to his job as a cabbie. One can t help but
wonder is this outcome what really happened, or is it what Travis thought would ve happened.
Travis receiving letters from the grateful parents of Iris for returning her

My Brother Sam Is Dead Themes
The Interesting book by James Lincoln Collier and Christopher Collier, My Brother Sam Is
Dead, has a very big theme. The big theme was how war impacts families. The main characters in
the book are Samuel Meeker, Tim Meeker, Life Meeker, and Susanna Meeker. They have a tavern
that is located in Redding Ridge, Connecticut, which is split up because of the war. The tavern is not

War impacts many things; one of the topics that war impacts is individuals. Tim is torn by war
because on pg. 127, Tim says, Having father gone was strange. The tavern seemed cold and
empty. The reason I can infer that Tim is torn is because he has been attacked by Patriots and
saved by Loyalists. He also doesn t know whether to follow Sam or father. Father

Cultural Awareness In England Research Paper
Cultural Awareness on England and a New Great Britain
Culture is a way of life inevitably intertwined within all civilizations since the beginning of human
history. Handed down from one generation to the next, culture remains as a perpetually endless
occurrence. Humanity has been involuntarily defining its regions, civilizations, and each its peoples
and the respective geographical locations in which the inhabitants were born. Prosperous and
thriving throughout the centuries, all ways of life continue to grow and develop as multiple factors,
such as climate change, war, natural disasters, politics, and religion come into play. Beliefs, arts, and
customs are primary in defining culture, yet many other major cultural characteristics contribute ...

Ten of England s most historical battles leading up to World War II were: Naseby, the First
English Civil War, which they fought in Northamptonshire in 1645 and Blenheim, War of the
Spanish Succession, they fought in Bavaria in 1704. Culloden, Jacobite Rebellion of 1745,
which was fought in Scotland in 1746; Plassey, Seven Years War, was fought in India in 1757;
Quebec, Seven Years War, was fought in 1759 in Quebec City, known today as Canada.
Lexington, American War of Independence, they fought in Massachusetts in 1775; Salamanca,
Peninsular War, was in 1812 and fought in Spain. Waterloo, the last battle of the Napoleonic
Wars, they fought in present day Belgium in 1815; and Rorke s Drift, Zulu War, was fought in
present day South Africa in 1879. World War I consisted of multiple battles from 1914 to 1918
that contributed to, if not controversially surpassed, the importance of the previous nine battles
named. (The Telegraph, 2013). Conversely, when World War I deemed by Woodrow Wilson in
1917 the war to end all wars , few believed that World War II would soon be in the midst. ( ). In
1945, Albert Einstein spoke the words, As long as there are sovereign nations possessing great
power, war is inevitable . (Swing, Raymond 1947, the Atlantic).

Animals Of All Kinds Have Been Known For Their Positive...
Animals of all kinds have been known for their positive impact on humans. Animal assisted Therapy
(AAT) was first incorporated into the mental health institutions in the late eighteenth century to help
increase socializations among the patients. As of today, a number of AAT programs have mainly
targeted populations of patients with PTSD or those who have experienced trauma. PTSD (post
traumatic stress disorder) is classified as an anxiety disordercharacterized by the common symptoms
avoidance, intrusion, alterations in mood and cognition, and alterations in arousal and reactivity (O
Haire, M.E,. Guerin, N.A., Kirkham, A.C., 2015). The presence of an animal is thought to
encourage a safe and open environment, elicit positive emotion and warmth, increase socializations,
and increase the release of oxytocin, which aids in the relaxation process. Perhaps that s why PTSD
or trauma patients respond so well when AAT is included in treatment. AAT is not a therapy
used
alone, but rather coupled with other treatment to enhance the therapy process. (Dietz, T. J., Davis.,
Pennings, J. 2012).
PICO Statement My PICO statement is in patients with PTSD or traumatic experiences, what is the
effect of animal assisted therapy compared to no animal assisted therapy on decreasing traumatic
symptoms? Therapy is the type of PICO question. Based on my PICO statement the best type of
evidence to use for this particular question would be randomized or non randomized controlled
trials.

Jaws Response Paper. Throughout Steven Spielberg’S Jaws
Jaws Response Paper Throughout Steven Spielberg s Jaws social class and wealth play a large
role in character development as well as story progression. As seen from the beginning, the town
of Amity is the hotspot for vacationers and in most cases, those of higher economic status. A
stark difference can be seen between the status of islanders (those who live in Amity) versus
those who only come to vacation, such as between Sheriff Brody and Dr. Hooper. Money and
stature are also key throughout the film as a motivator for several of the film s characters,
specifically Mayor Larry Vaughn, Quint and Dr. Hooper to drive their major decisions. In the very
beginning of the film we are shown a group of teenagers having a bonfire on the beach and... Show

In contrast to the first incident the townspeople are now immediately swarming over the attack
and searching for answers. Mrs. Kinter, in her desperation for justice, even goes as far as
blaming Brody (again a non islander) for her son s death rather than Mayor Vaughn who had
been the real culprit behind keeping the beaches open. She also enables two more examples of
money and status driven character development by offering a cash reward to anyone that can
catch and kill the shark that attacked her son. The character most obviously driven by financial
gain is the fisherman Quint who at the town meeting immediately following the attack on Alex
Kintner explains that he will bring in the shark for $10,000 instead of the $3,000 offered by Mrs.
Kintner. Just as Mayor Vaughn seeks to capitalize on the summertime and tourists, Quint is
interested in his own financial gain rather than the safety and wellbeing of the town. Dr. Hooper,
as Mayor Vaughn points out, is also likely motivated by money and stature related to finding and
killing the monstrous shark. While trying to explain how big and dangerous the shark really is,
Mayor Vaughn criticizes Hooper for only wanting to get fame and fortune by having his name in a
National Geographic magazine. Although he insists that he is strictly interested in the science
behind the beast and protecting the people of Amity the act of discovery often can harbor monetary
and status related gain. As a researcher, Hooper fully

Young And Immature In Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet
Romeo and Juliet, the star crossed lovers , do not have real love at all (Shakespeare). They are
too young to have true love, instead it is just based off looks. If they are older they might
understand what love really is. Since they are young and immature they rush into decisions they
make. They also take drastic measures in the decisions and how to handle themselves. They are
young and immature, and this is why their story ends the way it does, in complete tragedy.
Romeo loves with his eyes, but he does not love with his heart. He is too immature to stay true to
one girl if there is another girl that is more beautiful. Romeo meets Juliet and says to Friar
Laurence . . . my heart s dear love is set / On the fair daughter of rich Capulet ... Show more content

When Romeo tells Friar Laurence . . . but this i pray, / That thou consent to marry us today Friar
knows it is very immature, but only does it to possibly end the feud between the families (II, iii,

instead they just get married. If they would just wait to find a good time to maybe talk to their
parents about it, that would be the mature thing to do. Romeo also has immaturity not in love, but
in revenge. After Tybalt kills Mercutio, Romeo immaturely goes and gets Tybalt. Most of us would
do this, but it is still immature. Romeo should just wait for the Prince to give Tybalt his
punishment and everything would be fine. Instead Romeo goes and kills Tybalt, and puts his own
life in jeopardy. If Romeo would be mature and think about these things, the Prince would not
banish him to Mantua and he could still see Juliet and be with his

Inventory Valuation
Inventory Valuation
Retailers define inventory as intended sellable assets consisting of goods that are available for
resale to customers. Manufacturers also maintain three components of inventory. These include
finished goods which are goods that have been completed and are awaiting sales. Manufacturers
may also have work in process inventory made up of goods being manufactured but not yet
completed. The third category of inventory is raw materials, consisting of goods that are to be used
in producing products. Overall, inventory should include all costs that are both ordinary and
necessary to put the goods in place and in condition for their resale. For many companies, what they
have in inventory represents a major ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To properly use the cost method in valuing your property, all direct and indirect costs associated
with it must be applied. Some general rules apply to the cost method including that for
merchandise on hand at the beginning of the tax year, cost means the inventory price of the
goods. Also, for any merchandise purchased during the year, cost means the invoice price less
discounts plus freight and other charges occurred in acquiring the goods. For any merchandised
produced during the year, cost means all direct and indirect costs that have to be capitalized
under the uniform capitalization rules (UNICAP). Under UNICAP, you must capitalize the
direct costs and partial indirect costs for production or resale activities subject to these rules.
Rather than claiming these costs as a current deduction, you include them in the basis of
property your produce or acquire for resale. You recover these costs through depreciation,
amortization, or cost of goods sold when you use, sell, or dispose of the property. Under the
lower of cost or market method, compare the market value of each item on hand on the inventory
date with its cost and use the lower value of its inventory value. This method is applied to goods
purchased and on hand and basic elements of cost of goods being manufactured (direct materials,
direct labor). This method does not apply to goods accounted for under the LIFO method. To

The Effects Of Lust And Love
Lust and love are total opposites. Lust is a primary ingredient of sex addiction. I find out that
people are often confused about what lust is. Lust is harmful to the body, mind and spirit, and it
can easily be mistaken for love, as we can see in the book of 2Samuel 13:1 4, with Amnon, son of
King David, erroneously getting involved with his own sister, Tamar. Lust has the opposite effect
of love. Love is spiritual while lust is Carnal; and the Holy Biblesays that God is love.
What really is lust and how do I differentiate lust from love? When Amnon said I am in love with
my sister Tamar was the bible telling us the obvious or what Amnon assume he had for her? We
need to understand this very well because very many of us have gone into relationship, thinking
we are driving by love when in actual lust is driving us. The bible simply told us what Amnon
thought he had for his sister, genuine love do not think nor demand sex first, the simplest way to
know if you are lust leaden or love driven is know which is coming first, sex ... Show more content

Pornographic images tempt our eyes, flesh and senses to lust. Apostle James described the

Monstrosity In The Monster
Friedrich Nietzsche once said, Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he
does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back
into you . The term monster comes from the word monД“re, which means to warn. Monsters are
used to reveal or make reality a situation that is often left ignored. Often the word monsterbrings up
any stories such as Frankenstein, Dracula, and Beowulf. The stories of these monsters have a lasting
impact on generations because of their ability to captivate audiences both young and old. Cultures
around the world have a connection with monstrosity. Throughout history, we have the opportunity
to witness the struggle between mankind and the beast. Sadly, very few have yet discovered the
true connection between monstrosity and humanity. Throughout the years, in the quest for control,
humanity has created a merciless beast very few understand. The true monster in these stories are
us, humans. These creatures are paying the price because of society s ruthless behaviors.
Monsters originate in folklore, which is found and almost every culture. With folklore, you can
pass down family traditions, history, and discipline. It connects us to the outside world , and
provides us with the major challenges faced in our society. Monsters are used to reveal a situation
that is left ignored. Merriam Webster defines Monsters as, an imaginary creature that is typically
large, ugly, and frightening . These

Compare And Contrast Hamlet Movies
The 1990 film version of Hamlet by Franco Zeffireni and the 1996 version by Michael
Almereyda are very different form on another as they both put the play into perspective in
different lights with the time they are set in. The 1990 version is set in the 14th to 15th century
whereas the 1996 version is set in 1990 s to 2000 s. The time the films are set in makes a huge
difference to how different the versions are, as it changes almost everything about the film. From
the props that are used to the way the characters interact with each other. The two film versions of
Hamletare drastically different from one another all due to the time they are set in.
The biggest impact that the time of the film is the settings. The 1990 version is set in Denmark
whereas the 1996 is set in New York City. This changes many things about the movies. In the old
version there are castles, dungeons, and old looking architects. But in the modern day one there are
high rises, museums, apartments, offices, and swimming pools. The settings change how the
scenes go, for example in the modern version Ophelia dies by drowning in a water fountain where as

Polonious was killed by a sword but in the modern version he was killed with a gun. Also the
type of transportation in the old version was horses but in the modern one they used cars. Also in
the modern version when there was news it would be on the news channel on the television or the

Summary Of Evil And Omnipotence By J. L. Mackie
J. L. Mackie s Evil and Omnipotence criticizes the argument that God exists by showing that
religious beliefs are positively irrational and that parts of the essential theological doctrine are
inconsistent with one another. The problem of evil is one of the oldest problems in philosophy.
The problem of evil is a logical problem for only the people who believe that there is a Godwho is
both (1) omnipotent and (2) wholly good; yet (3) evil exists in the world. If God is wholly good
and omnipotent, then how can there be a presence of evil in the world. Given the presence of evil,
we must either conclude that God does not have the power to prevent the suffering that evil causes
in which case God is not omnipotent or that God does not wish... Show more content on
Helpwriting.net ...
However, these solutions are only temporary or almost adopted by the thinker because the thinker
may not be consistent in their definitions and convert back to the old definitions. Therefore, these
solutions are not true solutions, so we must find another way to solve the problem of evil.
The next set of solutions are called fallacious solutions. A fallacious solution is a solution defined
as an argument which rejects one of the propositions but then, implicitly reasserts it later in the
argument to solve the problem. However, these fallacious solutions use an equivocation use of the
words good and evil , which cause vagueness about how good and evil are opposed to one another.
Mackie notes that these so called solutions may seem plausible at first, but, in fact, do not amount
to a solution which rejects any principle that causes the contradiction.
The first fallacious solution is that Good cannot exist without evil. The idea behind this solution is
that evil is a necessary counterpart of good. Without evil, there could be no good in the world.
Therefore, God could not have created the world without any evil in it because there would be no
good. By saying that God cannot create good without creating evil at the same time contradicts
premise one (that God is omnipotent) and premise five (that there are limits to what an omnipotent
thing can do). Mackie rejects this

Polymerase Chain Reaction ( Pcr )
MB B/BIO 181 | Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)
Name: Teresa Naval
INTRODUCTION
Scientifically, why is the study of Alu insertions interesting? (10 pts) Alu insertions are biological
tools that can trace human history, evolution, and migration. In particular, Alu is often used to
understand prehistory because all primates (including humans) with Alu insertions at specific
locations can be traced to common ancestors [3].
Alu is sometimes referred to as a jumping gene because it copies itself to shift to new locations.
While it is technically not a gene, the way Alu insertions are inherited (i.e. passed down from
parents to offspring) is much like that of a gene. It is not a gene, however, because Alu does not
code for any protein. It ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Batzer and Deininger (2002) even mention that Alu insertions account for ~0.1% of all human
genetic disorders (p. 374) including some forms of cancer and diabetes. Alu, then, allows
researchers to create a biological map of human activity.
What are the objectives of this lab? (5 pts) Using polymerase chain reaction (PRC), this lab focuses
on the amplification of DNA extracted from cheek cells. The experiment aims to discover the
presence or absence of the human Alu insertion in the PV92 locus on chromosome 16. It aims to
enable the students to understand how PCR works, and how it is used to understand DNA fragments.
Another objective of this lab is to understand the implications of Alu insertions in human evolution,
and to examine some of the genomic variations within the human species using a sample population
in the laboratory. METHODS
What steps are involved in carrying out PCR and biologically, what happens during each step?
Why did we use PCR? (15 pts)
A. Preparing the Cheek Cells (Pre PCR) The process of isolating cheek cells began with rinsing the
inside of the mouth with 0.90% saline solution. A micropipette was used to transfer 1,500 uL of the
solution into a tube, which was then placed in a microcentrifuge to spin at 8000 rpm for 90
seconds. The centrifuge made sure that the contents of the solution were segregated by weight, with
the DNA precipitate (cell pellet) settling at the bottom. The supernatant was removed, and

Examining Hamlet and The Great Gatsby

According to Roger Lewis, The acquisition of money and love are both part of the same dream, the
will to return to the quintessential unity that exists only at birth and at death (41). In both William
Shakespeare s play, Hamlet, and F. Scott Fitzgeralds novel, The Great Gatsby, the protagonists are
willing to sacrifice all that they have in order to achieve their unrealistic objectives and ambitions,
resulting in their tragic demises. While there are many themes and concepts relevant to both Hamlet
and The Great Gatsby, their parallels regarding their aspirations stand out for further evaluation.

Jay Gatsby spends years of his life involved in illegal activity in order to accumulate enough
wealth to be able to throw many parties, all for a possible chance to see his love once lost, Daisy.
In this, both Jay Gatsby and Prince Hamlet are willing to sacrifice all that they have, not limited to
themselves, in order to achieve their unrealistic goals. In comparison, Hamlet is content with
altering his life and his current relationships, all for the sake of being closer to his ultimate goal,
vengeance for his father.
Hamlet lacks faith in G d and himself. Consequently he must define his existence in terms of
others... He would like to become what the Greek Tragic hero is, a creature of situation. Hence his
inability to act, for he can only act , i.e., play at possibilities (Auden, W.H)
Hamlet is willing to act mad, ruining all of his relationships, not limited to his romantic life, for a
futile opportunity to get close enough to Claudius to kill him. Although both Jay Gatsby and
Prince Hamlet are willing to sacrifice all for their aspirations, Gatsby puts on a false front, while
Hamlet covers his; Gatsby pulls a facade as though he had been wealthy throughout his entire life,
while Hamlet feigns insanity. Gatsby has attempted to pull a facade of him having always been

Conflict in the Workplace
Conflict in the Workplace
Introduction
The business world is highly competitive from every perspective; competition for office space,
virtual space, markets, customers, clients and with colleagues. It is the responsibility of people
working together in their day to day business transactions to have finely tuned interpersonal skills,
knowledge and experience to ensure that they achieve the best possible outcomes for themselves
and their employers. In environments such as these, conflicts, arguments and disagreements occur
as part of people s working lives. Conflicts in the workplace may lead to unhappiness for those in
the conflict and of course, this will impact on their own professional performance. These conflicts
create so many other problems, not just for the people who are in conflict, but also for their
colleagues. Effective conflict resolution and management are therefore paramount for people to
be able to solve their workplace differences so that they may enjoy their work personally and
professionally. Apart from that, understanding and recognizing positive and negative disputes in
the workplace is a significant part of being a well organized manager. It also improves positive
efficiency, receptiveness, and effectiveness in attaining goals. This essay will discuss the causes of
conflict in the workplace, importance of resolving workplace conflict, how to deal with workplace
conflict include poor communication and competition. It also argue interpersonal skills

Why Illinois Is Such An Important Place To Me
The reason why Illinois is such an important place to me is, because it was my hometown and it
was where I moved from to Virginia. I feel that this place gives me a sense of happiness, because it
is where most of my friends and family are. To begin, Forsyth, Illinois was my hometown. It was
where I was born and where I was raised most all my life. I went to a small schooldistrict called
Maroa Forsyth. It was where I attended school until the end of middle school. I went through school
with the same set of friends for all my school years. They were really good friends that I had a lot
of great memories with. Also, some of my familylives there as well. My aunt, uncle, two cousins

A Text That Lasts Forever Essay
A Text That Lasts Forever
Tuesday morning the 10th of May had begun as any normal work day in our household. Pam s
alarm had gone off at the ungodly hour of five o clock in the morning and I had rolled over
waiting for my alarm to sound at a more decent hour of six o clock. Then I would start my day.
When we left for work that morning we had to stop and go back because Pam had forgotten her
office keys. She never seems to forget her coffee but the keys are another story. The traffic was at
a normal rush hour crawl as we headed south on Rufe Snow to make our way onto highway 121
towards Fort Worth and eventually to Texas Wesleyan University. On this particular morning the
sun had not yet peeked over the horizon. However, the glow in the few floating clouds was
announcing that summer was on its way and today was going to be a sunny, hot day in Texas.
As we drove to work we were discussing meetings we each had for the day and the workload that
awaited us upon our arrival. We talked about the not so important yet pressing matters such as
what we would have for dinner and if our schedules would allow us to meet for lunch. We had
turned onto East Lancaster and were headed east, less than a mile from work, when things began
to change. Traffic was moving a little slower than the posted speed limit and the black truck in
front of us made a dramatic jerk from the inside right to the left hand lane. I was about ready to
make some derogatory remark about his driving when I

Essay On Cardiopulmonary Bypass
Cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) has contributed to the evolution of modern day cardiac surgery.
The establishment of extracorporeal circulation has helped the surgical team to carry out
complicated surgical manouevers for treatment of complex cardiac lesions, especially complex
congenital cardiac lesions, some of which were hitherto considered as inoperable. The advances in
equipment and use of innovative techniques in perfusion have contributed to decreased mortality
and/or morbidity in patients undergoing cardiac surgeryin the modern day settings. However the
necessity for monitoring the patient on cardiopulmonary bypass is of paramount importance. One
of the key areas monitored during CPB is the neurological status of the patient. The inherent features
of CPB like unphysiological flows, the fluctuations of temperature (use of hypothermia and
rewarming), practices like hemodilution, organ protection strategies and unavoidable consequences
like Systemic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (SIRS), all contribute to neurological sequelae.
The possibility of neurological sequelae is enhanced in neonatal cardiopulmonary bypass, wherein
the concept of extra corporeal circulation is stretched to its limits. Hence neurological monitoring
assumes a central place in the practice of safe, optimal perfusion .... Show more content on

Herpes Zoster and the Complications of Post-Herpetic...
Many people can remember to a time when they were a little kid and tiny little red bumps began to
form on different locations of their skin. The small bumps began to spread and began to itch.
Remembering the pink color of the calamine lotion that was used to soothe the itching sensation,
realizing that these bumps were chicken pox. It is common knowledge that once a person contracts
chicken pox and the outbreak clears up, the person will not get an outbreak again. Yet there are
unknown complications that may develop later in life from having the chicken pox. Herpes zoster
(Zoster), or commonly known as Shingles, is one of these complications. Not only is this a very

This entire process takes anywhere from a few days to a few weeks. Shingles often clear up on
its own without any medical assistance or topical creams. Treatments for outbreaks that do not
clear up on their own; often include cold compresses, oral anti viral medications, and
corticosteroid creams. A person who has an outbreak of Shingles typically only has one to three
outbreaks in their lifetime (Mandell GL., et al, 2009). There have been, however, cases where the
scabs disappear yet the pain continues even after the rash is gone. In some cases, this pain
associated with the herpes zoster virus lasts for years. The continuous pain is called Post herpetic
neuralgia (Nordqvist, C., 2009).
Post herpetic neuralgia is a severe pain along the route of a nerve. There have been five features
reported in case studies that is associated to the development of post herpetic neuralgia. These
include age, severity of pain at rash onset, severity of pain, extension of rash at first occurrence,
female gender, and ophthalmic location (Coen, P., et al, 2006). This pain is a result to a change in
the neurological structure and function of that particular nerve. This pain is considered to be non
nociceptive pain because it comes from within the nervous system itself. Nociceptive pain is the
type of pain a person would feel when they put their

Example Of Symbiosis
Year 9 Science Ecology
Symbiosis
Symbiosis
Symbiosis is the relationship between two living organisms. The main types of symbiosis are
mutualism, parasitism and commensalism. The association between the two organisms can be
beneficial to one or two of the species or in some cases be harmful, depending on the type of
symbiosis.
Commensalism
Commensalism is a biological term which is used to describe the relationship between two living
organisms, where in which one benefits from the other without harming it. Commensal species
benefits from its host by obtaining food, shelter, transportation and other support. The host species
is rarely ever harmed by the Commensal species. The term commensalism was founded in 1876 by
Belgian Paleontologist and Zoologist Pierre Joseph Van Brenden. Commensalisms comes from the
latin word commensalis which translates to sharing a table .

Beauty And The Beast In Being There And The Bloody Chamber
In the novels Being There and The Bloody Chamber there are several examples of characters
constantly changing throughout the telling of the novel. Many of the characters of The Bloody
Chamber are creatures who are half human and half beast, or else undergo some change from
beast to human or vice versa. In Being There, we see Chance transform from a simple gardener
to a man who is respected and loved by the whole country seemingly in a blink of an eye.
Transformation revealing some idea of truth is a common theme of folk and fairy tales. In the
original Beauty and the Beast the creature is rescued by the goodness of a true woman who
restores him to his handsome self. Carter s two retellings of the tale offer something quite
different. Mr. Lyon loses his attractive and powerful animal qualities and ends up looking
unkempt ( The Courtship of Mr. Lyon , p. 54). In The Tiger s Bride it is not The Beast, but
Beauty who is transformed. Having dispatched her replica to the real world of her father, she is
free to shed all the skins of a life in the world (p. 75) and become a beast herself. Carter inverts
the traditional transformation from beast to human and its symbolism. To be beast like is to be
virtuous; to become manly is to be vicious. The Snow Child offers a different view on
metamorphosis: a wish can become reality, but can just as easily be wished away. The transitory
nature of male desire is emphasized by the melting away of the child: Soon there was nothing

ABSTRACT
As the feature size is continuously decreasing and integration density is increasing, interconnections
have become a dominating factor in determining the overall quality of a chip. Due to the limited
scalability of system bus, it cannot meet the requirement of current Systemon Chip
(SoC) implementations where only a limited number of functional units can be supported.
Networkon Chip
(NoC) architectures have been proposed to be an alternative to solve the above problems by using a
packet based communication network. Moreover, as technology scales down in geometry ... Show

Since more than ten years, the term Network onChip
(NOC) has appeared. The advantages of a
NOC based architecture are numerous: high scalability and versatility, high throughput with good
power efficiency. For very large scale integration,
NOC are fully scalable, because the number of nodes can be increased to provide higher global
throughput, without degrading local network link performances.
NOC based architecture and packet switching provide dynamic communication possibilities, which
lead to versatility. At chip level, the longest wires are only connected to two nodes which is good
for local throughput. Finally, data communication and its associated power consumption can be
reduced to only active network links.

China, a continent with around 1.4 billion people have other countries looking because of their
economy. Currently, China s economy is known to be one of the largest manufacturers,
merchandise exporter and importer, but also a holder of foreign exchange (CIA,2016). The
success happened through gradual economic reforms, opening up new businesses, continuously
improving their economic structures, but also being able to invest in a lot of corporate companies
(Yang,2016). However this wasn t the only thing that made China successful there has been a long
history in which China was able to achieve this title today. From the early 1970 s, China s
economy was solely based on cheap labor, agriculture, but also rural industries (CIA,2016). This
market strategy allowed China s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) to raise in double figures, and due
to the rise in GDP figures the national poverty rate decreased by 679 million people (Yang,2016).
Rural industries have been the main contributor to the advancement of the Chinese economy which
has allowed entrepreneurs to start up their business with in a small rural private sectors (Yueh,2008).
Since the 1990 s, entrepreneurs have been the key driver of economic growth, which was apparent
since the recorded private enterprise grew within the rural areas (Yueh,2008). Seeing that there was

How Seamus Heaney s Childhood Affected His Poetry Essay
How Seamus Heaney s Childhood Affected His Poetry
Seamus Heaney was born in the North of Ireland in 1939 on a farm with his mother and father and
nine other siblings. Generally Heaney s poems are influenced by animals through his childhood
experience, specifically within The Early Purges and An Advancement of
Learning . Heaney grew up near Belfast, during the time of The
Troubles , the Irish civil war. Although Heaney left at the height of the war, it is obvious his work
reflects his experiences of that time.
For an example The Early Purges illustrates this. Where they consider death unnatural . Growing

Heaney uses words such as, purges , the water pumped in , scraggy wee shits , dunghill and dung
to suggest that the kittens seem like waste. The title reflects the idea of waste, as the word purges
means getting rid of undesirables. The water pumped in, indicates what happens when flushing a
toilet, therefore getting rid of waste.
Dan Taggart calls the kittens, scraggy wee shits which shows that he doesn t care about the killing
of the kittens and treats them as waste to be got rid of. He justifies his actions by suggesting the
kittens have no value. A dunghill can be used for getting rid of dung and the kittens are sluiced on
the dunghill. The word sluiced means
flushed indicating a toilet, so the kittens are therefore treated as waste. Throughout the poem we
are viewing the killing through Heaney s eyes and it is evident that he does not like the killing
as he uses words such as soft , tiny and frail to suggest the kittens are innocent and harmless. The
words, For days I sadly hung round the yard, watching the three sogged remains and the fear came
back suggest he was affected by the carnage and murder he witnessed. However, toward the end of
the poem he is forced to accept the killing and torture.
Heaney became numb, unfeeling and almost deadened. This is shown in the words, I just shrug,
Bloody pups . It makes sense . He is almost imitating Dan Taggart at this point to justify

Previou Experiment
1 Briefly describe the aim(s) of the study The hypothesis of the study, which is explicitly stated in
the abstract section was to examine and reject the possibility that change blindness in previous
studies resulted from passive viewing of 2 D displays. Hence, testing the hypothesis in the real
world would still generate similar results as previous studies have concluded from using still images
and motion pictures. Briefly mentioned in the abstract and explicitly stated in the results and
discussion part of Experiment 1, the researchers were led to a second hypothesis due to the apparent
trend within the collected results from the first experiment. The second hypothesis was that
younger subjects considered themselves members of the same social group as the experimenters
and older subjects considered the experimenters to be members of an out group. Thus, successful
detection depended on social group membership. 2 Indicate whether or not the study was
theoretically motivated. Clearly discussed in the abstract and greatly detailed throughout the
introduction, the researchers were theoretically motivated by a number of previous laboratory
experiments, studies and research findings. These theoretical motivations were in addition to the
researchers very own assumptions and findings based on their own... Show more content on

An example of findings that the researchers intended to build upon was the findings regarding
change blindness , which suggests that observers lack a precise visual representation of their
world from one view to the next (Bartlett, 1932/1977; Brewer Treyens, 1982; Loftus, 1970;
Nickerson Adams, 1970). Therefore, by testing the first hypothesis, the researchers are essentially
building upon this finding by applying it to a real world situation and examining all the aspects in

English 101 Made Me a Better Writer
Everyone on the planet has a goal set in life, but only a handful attempt to improve to obtain their
goal by studying the subject their goal is in. In my English class, English 101 this quarter I was
astonished by how much I had progressed as a writer sharpening my writing skills and also learned
a lot about writingthat I hadn t learned before. In my writing portfolio for this quarter I had to write
an autobiography essay, a research essay, and this reflection essay to develop my writing skills
better. The writing assignments were fun to do because it challenged me to work on essays of
different styles that were new to me. The essay assignments helped me grow as a better writer that
gave me the self confidence and skills to take on the world on my own.
During the beginning of the English 101 when we began the writing process: I thought at first
that we spent too much time on our essays but I soon realized how important it was spending
time on the essays to improve them . The revisions that my teacher and classmates made on my
essays were truly helpful for me because it allowed me to better my writing. For every week in
the entire course we went over the MLA formatting process, annotating, citing within the essay,
and how to make the paper flow better. I had the most troubles in this quarter when I started
writing some of my essays for my portfolio because I didn t have a clue how to start them at first.
After a while of brainstorming ideas and seeing examples the teacher

d. There are both advantages and disadvantages of social networking. Social Networking
includes sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Linkedin. These are all places where people may
log on and submit a positive/negative comment on their experience and it will immediately be
recorded on the site page. This can be a good way to get feedback as people are more likely to log
onto the internet as it is easily accessed and convenient. Although these social networks can have
their downfalls, one passenger that may have had a bad experience, may make a comment on the
network that automatically downgrades the airways reputation.
Question 3 a. To satisfy all their passengers EcoJET could incorporate the carbon offset fee into
the flight expenses so that all customers are paying a slight fee without knowing it and to keep
those who want to know they have paid the carbon offset fee, they could put it on as an optional
extra in the booking process.
Another option with the carbon offset fee is to have it as an option and to reward those who pay
it, for example you could offer a bonus such as first to board, better seat choice, first to get off,
extra baggage and better in flight service. This would give people an incentive to care for the
environment, for an extra $10 or

Gurglespla
The classroom has always been a place for learning and taking on new challenges. Normally, the
discovery has some kind of connection to the class one is taking, however recently 11 out of 10
students have reported a new kind of discovery: a musical one. Students have found a way to
exercise their right of freedom of speech through performing musical numbers during class.
Although only a select few are confident enough to perform in front of such an audience, if a student
starts playing, the teacher will automatically stop the class so that the rest of the students can focus
on what is truly important. The new genre is called gurglespla and the number of followers are

as annoying and disruptive by students and teachers alike. But then something changed within the
class s hearts, they realized the once annoying noises turned to beautiful enchanting music and that
the disruptive nature was simply an outlet for the student to express themselves. It is not the first
time something that once was unfavorable became likeable. Another instance is the recent fad of
food blues, where artist record themselves eating and drinking as rhythmic talent. One recent one

Comparing Zeffirelli s Adaptation Of Romeo And Juliet
For never was a story of more woe/ Than this of Juliet and her Romeo. The last line of Romeo
and Juliet was one that summed up the whole play. Romeo and Juliet is a tragic love story
between two star crossed lovers. Juliet, a 13 years old girl, belongs to the Capulet Family.
Romeo, aged at around 16, belongs to the Montague family. The two lovers cross paths and the
next day they are already married. The play itself was written by William Shakespearein 1595.
Whether it a book or a movie, in all the spin offs, there are sometimes many difference or just a
few. One of the closest interpretations of the play is the movie Romeo and Juliet directed by
Franco Zeffirelli in 1968; the extremely popular movie is a close interpretation of the play.... Show

The Intent Behind the Enuma Elish (Creation Epic) Essay
The Intent Behind the Enuma Elish
The Enuma Elish, often known as The Creation Epic, is often considered the primary source of
Mesopotamian cosmology. However, to view the Enuma Elish as a cosmological myth obscures the
true intent of the epicГs author. The cosmological elements of the Enuma Elish are secondary to the
authorГs effort to explain the supremacy of Marduk, to justify absolute oriental monarchy, and to
defend Babylon as the axis mundi.
The Enuma Elish was composed in Babylonin the early second millennium B.C.E. The decay of
Sumerian civilization allowed the Old Babylonian Empire to become the cultural and political
center of Mesopotamia. Babylon was governed by absolute and despotic kings capable of wielding

Furthermore, the transfer of power to Babylon is illustrated by the subjugation of all gods to the rule
of Marduk. After erecting a throne for Marduk, the gods proclaim, Thou art (the most) important of
the great gods; Thy destiny is unequaled, thy command is (like that of) AnuГ–To thee we have given
kingship over the totality of the whole universe ( Enuma Elish, 36). This statement reflects the
reality of the times. During the writing of the Enuma Elish the Old Babylonian Empire weilded
supreme power in Mesopotamia.
Moreover, the recognition MardukГs absolute rule is etiological in relation to the power of the
Babylonian kings. According to Assyriologist Benjamin Foster, the Enuma Elish explains the
evolution from early government by elders to absolute monarchy. As the battle between Marduk
and Tiamat illustrates, Foster notes the catalyst for this change is portrayed as outside threat
calling for a war leader. The leader demanded, as his terms for leadership, absolute obedience, even
when the threat of war was removed (Foster, 9).
Once the writer of the Enuma Elish set forth the supremacy of the Babylonian God and the
precedent for earthly monarchy, he/she turned to the task of translating divine superiority to
earthly. The process of translating divine power to earthly power begins on line 50 of Tablet IV of
the Enuma Elish. Grateful for MardukГs leadership, the gods construct the

Pope John 23 Research Paper
Pope John XXIII was one of the most influential Popes the Catholic Church had in the 20th century,
and perhaps one of the most important in its history. What he was able to do for the Church in his
short amount of time holding the Papacy was incredible. Originally seen as a transitional Pope,
John XXIII was certainly much more than that. His work in connecting with those of different
denominations of Christianity, as well as those of different faiths, has been instrumental to this day.
And, most of all, his call for the Vatican Council II was paramount for the modernization of the
church. Because of this, this paper will show that PopeJohn XXIII was important to the history of

Partitioning defective proteins (Par3, Par6) and protein kinase C (PKC)
These proteins are components of an apical polarity complex that has also been shown to
influence TE/ICM fate choice. Par3 and Par6 are cell junction proteins that were up regulated
during morula stage. This apical basal polarity can be seen in the compaction of the eight cell stage
embryo and through the localization of known polarity markers from other organisms and
developmental contexts, including partitioning defective 3 (Par 3), partitioning defective 6 (Par 6),
and protein kinase C (PKC) (Pauken and Capco, 1999; Vinot et al., 2005; Muller et al.,2001). Par3,

Furthermore, a fluid filled cavity, the blastocoel, is formed by merging of intercellular spaces and
water movement into the embryo. The blastocyst usually occurs around day seven in the cow.
Attachment of TJ and adjacent TE cells is essential for the integrity of epithelial cells and
blastocoelic cavity production by processing of transepithelial ion transport. Formation and
expansion of blastocoels depend on a tightly of membrane/ion transporters aggregation to both
apical and basolateral domain. Beside the membrane aggregation, the maintenance of epithelium
integrity also requires mature junctional complexes (Collins and Fleming, 1995). Many proteins
were up regulated during blastocyst formation when compared to morula, including membrane
traffic, ion channel, electron transporter and transfer/carrier proteins. Cell cytoskeleton and cell
adhesion protein assembly combined with TJ formation is restricted to the outer cells (Pratt et al.,
1982). Blastocoelic cavity generation by processing of transepithelial ion transport is relied on TJ.
Water osmotic transport across the epithelium is suggested to be regulated by Na+/K+ ATPase
(Watson and Barcroft, 2001). It is reported that active K+ transport are found mainly at the apical
membrane. Moreover, electron transporters such as NADH dehydrogenase subunits were
characterized and that may

Dangerous Liaisons By Claudia Moscovici
Nakia was in a relationship with a psychopath. A person with a psychopathic personality lacks
the ability to love or establish meaningful relationships. A psychopath is a predator who pretends
to love you in order to lure you into his deadly game of power, control, and manipulation. The
man who Nakia thought was her knight in shining armor turned out to be a nightmare.
Throughout their relationship, he emotionally abused her, held a gun to her head, criticized her
weight, made false accusations, cheated, called her names, and physically assaulted her during
pregnancy. A psychopath seeks to destroy your self worth and self esteem through cruel and
methodical mind manipulation. In her book, Dangerous Liaisons: How to Recognize and
Escape from Psychopathic Seduction, Claudia Moscovici writes about psychopaths and how
they seduce women. She reveals the process of psychopathic seduction: Idealize, Devalue, and
Discard. Let s examine Nakia s abusive relationship using the Idealize, Devalue, and Discard
phases, so we can observe how a psychopath operates. 1.Idealization Phase During the
Idealization Phase the predator lures you in with the promise of love He s a charmer, seducing

The Performance Of The Three Companies
After analyzing the performance of the three companies, located in the U.S., New Zealand, and
Argentina, I have discovered issues that need correction in each of the locations. First off, my
analysis shows that your company s performance in the U.S. is producing at 126% of the acceptable
upper limit. Although you can look at this as successful production, continuously operating at this
rate the company in this location is running the risk for saturating its market. Once the market
becomes saturated with your product, this will cause prices to drop, therefore continuing to
generate revenue will not be easy. Being that production is above standards I do not see a problem
within the structure or the operations within the organization at this location. However, maximizing
the profit margins would be the best strategy. I would recommend throttling back on production
quantity by lowering labor resources, which will help increase the unit profit margin. With the
information, I have gathered on this location my data shows me that with using fewer resources
you can still achieve the same production performance. With cutting back on labor resources, you
will be able to achieve the same goals using less human resources. As a result, the company is
saving desired time and money allowing your profits to increase. I would also like to recommend
utilizing the forecasting technique because this will enable managers to make the correct decisions
by providing valuable information to

Why Animals Shouldn t Have A Bill Of Rights

When a cause is brought up and given light, it has a way of splitting people in how they react to it.
And such has been true when it comes to granting new rights, because it s brobdingnagian in our
society that is always hungry for freedoms. We are split down the middle on whether, or not to
consider animals, just like us, and thus deserve the rights we hold in our society today. On the
other end, are people who don t believe such rights should be given to animals. While the pro
arguments hold value, there is much more to see on the other end. As to why animals shouldn t
have a Bill of Rights like we as humans do. It s shown in various different ways, even the most
popular arguments held by the opposing side. Such as cows hurting the environment, zoo s being
inhumane, and pets. There are other factors as well to take into consideration such as food,
psychology medicine, and even culture. It s often argued that cows are the main source of our
Methane emission, giving a strong argument to reduce, or even stop, our consumption of meat. In
all actuality, only about six percent to seven percent of all greenhouse

Taking a Look at Cave Art
When you think of cave art you may think of it is a way of just communicating or it does not
really have much meaning to it. But when you really look into the art you find so much more. It
s amazing what you can find about the humans in the past just through their art, you get to find
out where did they creativity come from and why did they create. In this essay I am going to
discuss what made the features on the cave so special? And why were they made? The stunning
prehistoric cave art at Altamira was decorated between 13,000 and 14,000 years ago. It was first
discovered by Marcelino sanz de sautuola and his daughter Maria He tried to bring attention to
the old art at Altamira, for its drawing of animals. The animals that were drawn were aurochs,
horses, ibexes, and boar. The art features were so special; the uneven contours of the rock give the
animals almost a three dimensional presence. The animals pasture, the colors were mostly red and
black, and the shading was also in colors which were yellow, brown, purple and white. The art was
so powerfully the contemporaries thought the paintings were not authentic because of how well it
was drawn. They believed someone else have drawn the art. They couldn t grip that art existed in
prehistory. That was until Emile Cartailhac, one of the French experts realize him doubting the
painting was in error. The conclusion he came to was that the Altamira paintings and others like
them did belong to the

Employee Satisfaction, Efficiency And The Training
During this paper I will talk about the different ways an organization has to approach employee
satisfaction, efficiency and the training that these need in order to accomplish their goals. One
of the most important requirements for an organization in order to be successful is the way
employee works, so in order to get better results I will talk about the different ways named
before. Starting for one of the ways, I will talk about how to get employees satisfied with their
work. If we consider that an organization is a system of consciously coordinated activities aimed
at the realization of collective goals, then this has to deal with keeping a positive attitude in
member satisfaction and adequate if you want to achieve your own goals. The organization
must try to keep the satisfied members, getting them to perform their tasks as well as possible
and to ensure that the results we want to achieve will be borne by all of its members and that
they bring their energy, their skills and their efforts to reach them. There is no research evidence
that there is always a strong and positive relationship between job satisfaction and performance.
A satisfied worker is not necessarily a high performer and a high performer is not necessarily a
satisfied worker. Satisfaction may lead to good performance but good performance may just as
well be the cause of satisfaction. The relationship can be reciprocal . (Armstrong, 2007) Satisfaction
labor is positive or pleasant emotional state

  • 2. Self-Targeting Sniper Rifle At this years Black Hat hacker conference, security researchers, Runa Sandvik and Michael Auger, will demonstrate how they are able to exploit the vulnerabilities of a self targeting sniper rifle to change the scope s variables when planning out a shot, and even bricking the rifle altogether. Sandvik and Auger Plan to Hack a Pair of $13,000 TrackingPoint Rifles Sandvik and Auger are a married hacker couple and have spent a year researching a way to hack into these smart rifles. The techniques allow a knowledgeable hacker to exploit its sight through Wi Fi. Once the rifle has been infected, a hacker can then use software to manipulate a scope s calculations, disable the scope completely, or just prevent the gun from firing entirely. In a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An attacker can lock a user out, preventing them from using the gun, or completely erase the gun s file system. This would essentially render the scope useless, leaving the shooter to have to aim manually. The file system in TrackingPoint s self aiming system is a vital part of the scope. The system allows a shooter to designate a target, which tells the computer to begin dialing in variables needed to make an accurate shot. It s important to note that the gun will not fire until the shooter has pulled the trigger. Once the trigger is pulled, the gun will then determine when the best time to fire is and take the shot when the barrel is perfectly aligned. TrackingPoint Are Already Working on an Upcoming Patch to Address the Exploit Fortunately, Sandvik and Auger are working together with TrackingPoint in order to develop a software patch that will quickly address the smart rifle s severe vulnerability. While it s not ready yet, TrackingPoint founder, John McHale, said the company would be mailing out a USB drive to customers in order to update their rifles as soon as ... • 3. Remember The Tians Is A Sports Movie Based On A True Story Remember the Tians is a sports movie based on a true story. The movie is about racism and how the characters abandon prejudices between each other in order to win the game. The 1970s was the era for American African civil rights movements. In Virginia, located in the south center of the United States, the population were still very conservative. There s a high school football team called the Titans with only white players. Yet, the school followed the racial integration policy which accepted many black students. This caused the Titan team to become a blended team. In addition, the school also demoted the already extremely successful white Coach Yoast and let a black man Boone to be the head coach because of the policy. Many white students and their parents protested and threatened they are going to quit. The residents were also are the same as these students, as they had suspicious and had doubts. Black man in a superior position towards a white man is a very dissonant combination, and the team players despised each other. Even the school didn t support Coach Boone and claimed he will be replaced as soon as he loses one game. It s not an easy job to train this team and trying to get them to co operate, he is not only needing to hone the students playing skills but also the team morale and the contradiction between him and the assistant coach. The worst thing is the whole society resist this blended team. In this film, Coach Boone perfectly demonstrates the Five ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Essay about Taxi Driver, Directed by Martin Scorsese Taxi Driver New York City that is depicted in Taxi Driver seems to be too real to be true. It is a place where violence runs rampant, drugs are cheap, and sex is easy. This world may be all too familiar to many that live in major metropolitan areas. But, in the film there is something interesting, and vibrant about the streets that Travis Bickle drives alone, despite the amount of danger and turmoil that overshadows everything in the nights of the city. In the film Taxi Driverdirector Martin Scorsese and writer Paul Schrader find and express a trial that many people face, the search for belonging and acceptance. The character of Travis Bickle roams the nights in his taxi cab, and witnesses all of this open sewer , ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Travis thinks he wants to live a normal life, and get out of the hell he lives in, but not quite sure how to go about getting out of this hell. Travis is also moderately insane but, nevertheless he devises a plan to save the young prostitute, Iris, and himself from his taxi cab prison. The beauty of this film climaxes when Travis goes to free Iris from the evil clutches of her pimp, Sport. When Travis approaches Sport, a second time, a question arises, Why is Travis paying this grotesque man another visit? but, then all is made clear when Travis draws his pistol and attempts to liberate Iris from her prison. The entire scene gives a strange feeling of redemption. Travis has redeemed himself from the world that he lived in by ridding it of this evil and freeing something that has potential to become something very beautiful. This redeeming feeling is reinforced when Scorsese s extreme overhead angle is shot, frozen, and begins to retrace the path of blood and bodies that Travis has defeated to save his damsel in distress, his Rapunzel, Iris. The film ends with Travis, a hero for the day, returning to his job as a cabbie. One can t help but wonder is this outcome what really happened, or is it what Travis thought would ve happened. Travis receiving letters from the grateful parents of Iris for returning her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. My Brother Sam Is Dead Themes The Interesting book by James Lincoln Collier and Christopher Collier, My Brother Sam Is Dead, has a very big theme. The big theme was how war impacts families. The main characters in the book are Samuel Meeker, Tim Meeker, Life Meeker, and Susanna Meeker. They have a tavern that is located in Redding Ridge, Connecticut, which is split up because of the war. The tavern is not split up War impacts many things; one of the topics that war impacts is individuals. Tim is torn by war because on pg. 127, Tim says, Having father gone was strange. The tavern seemed cold and empty. The reason I can infer that Tim is torn is because he has been attacked by Patriots and saved by Loyalists. He also doesn t know whether to follow Sam or father. Cultural Awareness In England Research Paper Cultural Awareness on England and a New Great Britain Culture is a way of life inevitably intertwined within all civilizations since the beginning of human history. Handed down from one generation to the next, culture remains as a perpetually endless occurrence. Humanity has been involuntarily defining its regions, civilizations, and each its peoples and the respective geographical locations in which the inhabitants were born. • 7. Animals Of All Kinds Have Been Known For Their Positive... Animals of all kinds have been known for their positive impact on humans. Animal assisted Therapy (AAT) was first incorporated into the mental health institutions in the late eighteenth century to help increase socializations among the patients. As of today, a number of AAT programs have mainly targeted populations of patients with PTSD or those who have experienced trauma. PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) is classified as an anxiety disordercharacterized by the common symptoms avoidance, intrusion, alterations in mood and cognition, and alterations in arousal and reactivity (O Haire, M.E,. Guerin, N.A., Kirkham, A.C., 2015). The presence of an animal is thought to encourage a safe and open environment, elicit positive emotion and warmth, increase socializations, and increase the release of oxytocin, which aids in the relaxation process. Perhaps that s why PTSD or trauma patients respond so well when AAT is included in treatment. AAT is not a therapy used alone, but rather coupled with other treatment to enhance the therapy process. (Dietz, T. J., Davis., Pennings, J. 2012). PICO Statement My PICO statement is in patients with PTSD or traumatic experiences, what is the effect of animal assisted therapy compared to no animal assisted therapy on decreasing traumatic symptoms? Therapy is the type of PICO question. Based on my PICO statement the best type of evidence to use for this particular question would be randomized or non randomized controlled trials. ... • 9. Jaws Response Paper. Throughout Steven Spielberg’S Jaws Jaws Response Paper Throughout Steven Spielberg s Jaws social class and wealth play a large role in character development as well as story progression. As seen from the beginning, the town of Amity is the hotspot for vacationers and in most cases, those of higher economic status. A stark difference can be seen between the status of islanders (those who live in Amity) versus those who only come to vacation, such as between Sheriff Brody and Dr. Hooper. Money and stature are also key throughout the film as a motivator for several of the film s characters, specifically Mayor Larry Vaughn, Quint and Dr. Hooper to drive their major decisions. In the very beginning of the film we are shown a group of teenagers having a bonfire on the beach and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In contrast to the first incident the townspeople are now immediately swarming over the attack and searching for answers. Mrs. Kinter, in her desperation for justice, even goes as far as blaming Brody (again a non islander) for her son s death rather than Mayor Vaughn who had been the real culprit behind keeping the beaches open. She also enables two more examples of money and status driven character development by offering a cash reward to anyone that can catch and kill the shark that attacked her son. The character most obviously driven by financial gain is the fisherman Quint who at the town meeting immediately following the attack on Alex Kintner explains that he will bring in the shark for $10,000 instead of the $3,000 offered by Mrs. Kintner. Just as Mayor Vaughn seeks to capitalize on the summertime and tourists, Quint is interested in his own financial gain rather than the safety and wellbeing of the town. Dr. Hooper, as Mayor Vaughn points out, is also likely motivated by money and stature related to finding and killing the monstrous shark. While trying to explain how big and dangerous the shark really is, Mayor Vaughn criticizes Hooper for only wanting to get fame and fortune by having his name in a National Geographic magazine. Although he insists that he is strictly interested in the science behind the beast and protecting the people of Amity the act of discovery often can harbor monetary and status related gain. • 10. Young And Immature In Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet Romeo and Juliet, the star crossed lovers , do not have real love at all (Shakespeare). They are too young to have true love, instead it is just based off looks. If they are older they might understand what love really is. Since they are young and immature they rush into decisions they make. They also take drastic measures in the decisions and how to handle themselves. They are young and immature, and this is why their story ends the way it does, in complete tragedy. Romeo loves with his eyes, but he does not love with his heart. He is too immature to stay true to one girl if there is another girl that is more beautiful. Romeo meets Juliet and says to Friar Laurence . . . my heart s dear love is set / On the fair daughter of rich Capulet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When Romeo tells Friar Laurence . . . but this i pray, / That thou consent to marry us today Friar knows it is very immature, but only does it to possibly end the feud between the families (II, iii, 63 64). They could be mature and wait things out to see if them loving each other would work, but instead they just get married. If they would just wait to find a good time to maybe talk to their parents about it, that would be the mature thing to do. Romeo also has immaturity not in love, but in revenge. After Tybalt kills Mercutio, Romeo immaturely goes and gets Tybalt. Most of us would do this, but it is still immature. Romeo should just wait for the Prince to give Tybalt his punishment and everything would be fine. Instead Romeo goes and kills Tybalt, and puts his own life in jeopardy. If Romeo would be mature and think about these things, the Prince would not banish him to Mantua and he could still see Juliet and be with his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Manufacturers also maintain three components of inventory. These include finished goods which are goods that have been completed and are awaiting sales. Manufacturers may also have work in process inventory made up of goods being manufactured but not yet completed. The third category of inventory is raw materials, consisting of goods that are to be used in producing products. To properly use the cost method in valuing your property, all direct and indirect costs associated with it must be applied. Some general rules apply to the cost method including that for merchandise on hand at the beginning of the tax year, cost means the inventory price of the goods. Also, for any merchandise purchased during the year, cost means the invoice price less discounts plus freight and other charges occurred in acquiring the goods. For any merchandised produced during the year, cost means all direct and indirect costs that have to be capitalized under the uniform capitalization rules (UNICAP). Under UNICAP, you must capitalize the direct costs and partial indirect costs for production or resale activities subject to these rules. Rather than claiming these costs as a current deduction, you include them in the basis of property your produce or acquire for resale. You recover these costs through depreciation, amortization, or cost of goods sold when you use, sell, or dispose of the property. Under the lower of cost or market method, compare the market value of each item on hand on the inventory date with its cost and use the lower value of its inventory value. This method is applied to goods purchased and on hand and basic elements of cost of goods being manufactured (direct materials, direct labor). This method does not apply to goods accounted for under the LIFO method. To ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. The Effects Of Lust And Love Lust and love are total opposites. Lust is a primary ingredient of sex addiction. I find out that people are often confused about what lust is. Lust is harmful to the body, mind and spirit, and it can easily be mistaken for love, as we can see in the book of 2Samuel 13:1 4, with Amnon, son of King David, erroneously getting involved with his own sister, Tamar. Lust has the opposite effect of love. Love is spiritual while lust is Carnal; and the Holy Biblesays that God is love. What really is lust and how do I differentiate lust from love? When Amnon said I am in love with my sister Tamar was the bible telling us the obvious or what Amnon assume he had for her? We need to understand this very well because very many of us have gone into relationship, thinking we are driving by love when in actual lust is driving us. The bible simply told us what Amnon thought he had for his sister, genuine love do not think nor demand sex first, the simplest way to know if you are lust leaden or love driven is know which is coming first, sex ... According to Jesus, that is the same as committing the very act. John 8:4 Lust and pornography: Pornography uses the same lies that Satan used in the Garden of Eden. Pornographic images tempt our eyes, flesh and senses to lust. Apostle James described the temptation process in James 1:14 15: But each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you . The term monster comes from the word monД“re, which means to warn. Monsters are used to reveal or make reality a situation that is often left ignored. Often the word monsterbrings up any stories such as Frankenstein, Dracula, and Beowulf. The stories of these monsters have a lasting impact on generations because of their ability to captivate audiences both young and old. Cultures around the world have a connection with monstrosity. Throughout history, we have the opportunity to witness the struggle between mankind and the beast. Sadly, very few have yet discovered the true connection between monstrosity and humanity. Throughout the years, in the quest for control, humanity has created a merciless beast very few understand. The true monster in these stories are us, humans. These creatures are paying the price because of society s ruthless behaviors. Monsters originate in folklore, which is found and almost every culture. With folklore, you can pass down family traditions, history, and discipline. It connects us to the outside world , and provides us with the major challenges faced in our society. • 15. Summary Of Evil And Omnipotence By J. L. Mackie J. L. Mackie s Evil and Omnipotence criticizes the argument that God exists by showing that religious beliefs are positively irrational and that parts of the essential theological doctrine are inconsistent with one another. The problem of evil is one of the oldest problems in philosophy. The problem of evil is a logical problem for only the people who believe that there is a Godwho is both (1) omnipotent and (2) wholly good; yet (3) evil exists in the world. If God is wholly good and omnipotent, then how can there be a presence of evil in the world. Given the presence of evil, we must either conclude that God does not have the power to prevent the suffering that evil causes in which case God is not omnipotent or that God does not wish... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, these solutions are only temporary or almost adopted by the thinker because the thinker may not be consistent in their definitions and convert back to the old definitions. Therefore, these solutions are not true solutions, so we must find another way to solve the problem of evil. The next set of solutions are called fallacious solutions. A fallacious solution is a solution defined as an argument which rejects one of the propositions but then, implicitly reasserts it later in the argument to solve the problem. However, these fallacious solutions use an equivocation use of the words good and evil , which cause vagueness about how good and evil are opposed to one another. Mackie notes that these so called solutions may seem plausible at first, but, in fact, do not amount to a solution which rejects any principle that causes the contradiction. The first fallacious solution is that Good cannot exist without evil. The idea behind this solution is that evil is a necessary counterpart of good. Without evil, there could be no good in the world. Therefore, God could not have created the world without any evil in it because there would be no good. By saying that God cannot create good without creating evil at the same time contradicts premise one (that God is omnipotent) and premise five (that there are limits to what an omnipotent thing can do). Mackie rejects this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 18. Polymerase Chain Reaction ( Pcr ) MB B/BIO 181 | Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) Name: Teresa Naval INTRODUCTION Scientifically, why is the study of Alu insertions interesting? (10 pts) Alu insertions are biological tools that can trace human history, evolution, and migration. In particular, Alu is often used to understand prehistory because all primates (including humans) with Alu insertions at specific locations can be traced to common ancestors [3]. Alu is sometimes referred to as a jumping gene because it copies itself to shift to new locations. While it is technically not a gene, the way Alu insertions are inherited (i.e. passed down from parents to offspring) is much like that of a gene. It is not a gene, however, because Alu does not code for any protein. It ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (5 pts) Using polymerase chain reaction (PRC), this lab focuses on the amplification of DNA extracted from cheek cells. The experiment aims to discover the presence or absence of the human Alu insertion in the PV92 locus on chromosome 16. It aims to enable the students to understand how PCR works, and how it is used to understand DNA fragments. Another objective of this lab is to understand the implications of Alu insertions in human evolution, and to examine some of the genomic variations within the human species using a sample population in the laboratory. METHODS What steps are involved in carrying out PCR and biologically, what happens during each step? Why did we use PCR? (15 pts) A. Preparing the Cheek Cells (Pre PCR) The process of isolating cheek cells began with rinsing the inside of the mouth with 0.90% saline solution. A micropipette was used to transfer 1,500 uL of the solution into a tube, which was then placed in a microcentrifuge to spin at 8000 rpm for 90 seconds. The establishment of extracorporeal circulation has helped the surgical team to carry out complicated surgical manouevers for treatment of complex cardiac lesions, especially complex congenital cardiac lesions, some of which were hitherto considered as inoperable. The advances in equipment and use of innovative techniques in perfusion have contributed to decreased mortality and/or morbidity in patients undergoing cardiac surgeryin the modern day settings. However the necessity for monitoring the patient on cardiopulmonary bypass is of paramount importance. One of the key areas monitored during CPB is the neurological status of the patient. The inherent features of CPB like unphysiological flows, the fluctuations of temperature (use of hypothermia and rewarming), practices like hemodilution, organ protection strategies and unavoidable consequences like Systemic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (SIRS), all contribute to neurological sequelae. Beauty And The Beast In Being There And The Bloody Chamber In the novels Being There and The Bloody Chamber there are several examples of characters constantly changing throughout the telling of the novel. Many of the characters of The Bloody Chamber are creatures who are half human and half beast, or else undergo some change from beast to human or vice versa. In Being There, we see Chance transform from a simple gardener to a man who is respected and loved by the whole country seemingly in a blink of an eye. Transformation revealing some idea of truth is a common theme of folk and fairy tales. In the original Beauty and the Beast the creature is rescued by the goodness of a true woman who restores him to his handsome self. Having dispatched her replica to the real world of her father, she is free to shed all the skins of a life in the world (p. 75) and become a beast herself. How Seamus Heaney s Childhood Affected His Poetry Essay How Seamus Heaney s Childhood Affected His Poetry Seamus Heaney was born in the North of Ireland in 1939 on a farm with his mother and father and nine other siblings. Generally Heaney s poems are influenced by animals through his childhood experience, specifically within The Early Purges and An Advancement of Learning . Heaney grew up near Belfast, during the time of The Troubles , the Irish civil war. Although Heaney left at the height of the war, it is obvious his work reflects his experiences of that time. Heaney uses words such as, purges , the water pumped in , scraggy wee shits , dunghill and dung to suggest that the kittens seem like waste. The title reflects the idea of waste, as the word purges means getting rid of undesirables. The water pumped in, indicates what happens when flushing a toilet, therefore getting rid of waste. Dan Taggart calls the kittens, scraggy wee shits which shows that he doesn t care about the killing of the kittens and treats them as waste to be got rid of. He justifies his actions by suggesting the kittens have no value. A dunghill can be used for getting rid of dung and the kittens are sluiced on the dunghill. The word sluiced means flushed indicating a toilet, so the kittens are therefore treated as waste. Throughout the poem we are viewing the killing through Heaney s eyes and it is evident that he does not like the killing as he uses words such as soft , tiny and frail to suggest the kittens are innocent and harmless. The words, For days I sadly hung round the yard, watching the three sogged remains and the fear came back suggest he was affected by the carnage and murder he witnessed. However, toward the end of the poem he is forced to accept the killing and torture. Heaney became numb, unfeeling and almost deadened. This is shown in the words, I just shrug, Bloody pups . Hence, testing the hypothesis in the real world would still generate similar results as previous studies have concluded from using still images and motion pictures. Briefly mentioned in the abstract and explicitly stated in the results and discussion part of Experiment 1, the researchers were led to a second hypothesis due to the apparent trend within the collected results from the first experiment. The second hypothesis was that younger subjects considered themselves members of the same social group as the experimenters and older subjects considered the experimenters to be members of an out group. Thus, successful detection depended on social group membership. 2 Indicate whether or not the study was theoretically motivated. The Intent Behind the Enuma Elish (Creation Epic) Essay The Intent Behind the Enuma Elish The Enuma Elish, often known as The Creation Epic, is often considered the primary source of Mesopotamian cosmology. However, to view the Enuma Elish as a cosmological myth obscures the true intent of the epicГs author. The cosmological elements of the Enuma Elish are secondary to the authorГs effort to explain the supremacy of Marduk, to justify absolute oriental monarchy, and to defend Babylon as the axis mundi. Furthermore, the transfer of power to Babylon is illustrated by the subjugation of all gods to the rule of Marduk. After erecting a throne for Marduk, the gods proclaim, Thou art (the most) important of the great gods; Thy destiny is unequaled, thy command is (like that of) AnuГ–To thee we have given kingship over the totality of the whole universe ( Enuma Elish, 36). This statement reflects the reality of the times. During the writing of the Enuma Elish the Old Babylonian Empire weilded supreme power in Mesopotamia. Moreover, the recognition MardukГs absolute rule is etiological in relation to the power of the Babylonian kings. According to Assyriologist Benjamin Foster, the Enuma Elish explains the evolution from early government by elders to absolute monarchy. As the battle between Marduk and Tiamat illustrates, Foster notes the catalyst for this change is portrayed as outside threat calling for a war leader. The leader demanded, as his terms for leadership, absolute obedience, even when the threat of war was removed (Foster, 9). Once the writer of the Enuma Elish set forth the supremacy of the Babylonian God and the precedent for earthly monarchy, he/she turned to the task of translating divine superiority to earthly. The process of translating divine power to earthly power begins on line 50 of Tablet IV of the Enuma Elish. Grateful for MardukГs leadership, the gods construct the ... Furthermore, a fluid filled cavity, the blastocoel, is formed by merging of intercellular spaces and water movement into the embryo. The blastocyst usually occurs around day seven in the cow. Attachment of TJ and adjacent TE cells is essential for the integrity of epithelial cells and blastocoelic cavity production by processing of transepithelial ion transport. Formation and expansion of blastocoels depend on a tightly of membrane/ion transporters aggregation to both apical and basolateral domain. Beside the membrane aggregation, the maintenance of epithelium integrity also requires mature junctional complexes (Collins and Fleming, 1995). Many proteins were up regulated during blastocyst formation when compared to morula, including membrane traffic, ion channel, electron transporter and transfer/carrier proteins. Cell cytoskeleton and cell adhesion protein assembly combined with TJ formation is restricted to the outer cells (Pratt et al., 1982). Blastocoelic cavity generation by processing of transepithelial ion transport is relied on TJ. The Performance Of The Three Companies After analyzing the performance of the three companies, located in the U.S., New Zealand, and Argentina, I have discovered issues that need correction in each of the locations. First off, my analysis shows that your company s performance in the U.S. is producing at 126% of the acceptable upper limit. Although you can look at this as successful production, continuously operating at this rate the company in this location is running the risk for saturating its market. Once the market becomes saturated with your product, this will cause prices to drop, therefore continuing to generate revenue will not be easy. Being that production is above standards I do not see a problem within the structure or the operations within the organization at this location. However, maximizing the profit margins would be the best strategy. I would recommend throttling back on production quantity by lowering labor resources, which will help increase the unit profit margin. With the information, I have gathered on this location my data shows me that with using fewer resources you can still achieve the same production performance. With cutting back on labor resources, you will be able to achieve the same goals using less human resources. As a result, the company is saving desired time and money allowing your profits to increase. I would also like to recommend utilizing the forecasting technique because this will enable managers to make the correct decisions by providing valuable information to ... On the other end, are people who don t believe such rights should be given to animals. While the pro arguments hold value, there is much more to see on the other end. As to why animals shouldn t have a Bill of Rights like we as humans do. It s shown in various different ways, even the most popular arguments held by the opposing side. • 56. Taking a Look at Cave Art When you think of cave art you may think of it is a way of just communicating or it does not really have much meaning to it. It was first discovered by Marcelino sanz de sautuola and his daughter Maria He tried to bring attention to the old art at Altamira, for its drawing of animals. The animals that were drawn were aurochs, horses, ibexes, and boar. The art features were so special; the uneven contours of the rock give the animals almost a three dimensional presence. The animals pasture, the colors were mostly red and black, and the shading was also in colors which were yellow, brown, purple and white. The art was so powerfully the contemporaries thought the paintings were not authentic because of how well it was drawn. They believed someone else have drawn the art. One of the most important requirements for an organization in order to be successful is the way employee works, so in order to get better results I will talk about the different ways named before. Starting for one of the ways, I will talk about how to get employees satisfied with their work. If we consider that an organization is a system of consciously coordinated activities aimed at the realization of collective goals, then this has to deal with keeping a positive attitude in member satisfaction and adequate if you want to achieve your own goals. The organization must try to keep the satisfied members, getting them to perform their tasks as well as possible and to ensure that the results we want to achieve will be borne by all of its members and that they bring their energy, their skills and their efforts to reach them. There is no research evidence that there is always a strong and positive relationship between job satisfaction and performance. A satisfied worker is not necessarily a high performer and a high performer is not necessarily a satisfied worker. Satisfaction may lead to good performance but good performance may just as well be the cause of satisfaction. The relationship can be reciprocal . (Armstrong, 2007) Satisfaction labor is positive or pleasant emotional state ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
