2. What is a “Comparative”?
We use comparatives to talk about two things.
Fast –er
His car is Faster than mine.

3. Comparative Form?
How is a comparative form built?
Usually we use Than after the adjective.
One syllable adjectives – add er at the end.
Long – Longer
*If the adjective ends with CVC (Consonant+ Vogal+ Consonant)
we double the last consonant.
Hot - Hotter
Two syllables adjective ending with y – add ier at the end.
Funny - Funnier
Other two or three syllables - add More before the adjective.

5. Comparative of Equality
We use as + adjective/adverb + as to make
comparisons when the things we are
comparing are equal in some way:
Ana is as tall as Pin.

6. We use not as … as to make comparisons
between things which aren’t equal:
Ana is not as tall as Nadir.

7. Comparative of Inferiority
The comparative of inferiority establishes a
comparison, evidencing the inferiority of one
being over the other.
Less + Adjective / Adverb + Than
Ana and Pin are less tall than Nadir.
