Essay On Bilingualism
Twenty percent of the population can be considered bilingual in the U.S today. They re over 311
different languages spoken in the United States. Living in the States, there has become a popular
belief that English is the only language that should be spoken. It s astonishing people don t
apprehend they re thousands of languages worldwide and U.S citizens are trying to be self centered
around one language, English. Therefore, this has generated tension throughout by cultural warfare.
Cultural warfare has been brought to this world created from individuality and creating own
identities. Bilingualism has created a window to connect with others around us from all over the
world. Without knowing more than one language, we would be restricted from many people and
opportunities of living an extraordinary, passionate culture.
Espada s ideas of bilingualism is expressed in several ways. Martin Espada s main idea he makes
clear to the reader is keeping loyalty to your own culture and traditions. Secondly, bilingualism can
create culture warfare between two languages. Espada argues the majority of the people want
english to become the only language and culture in the United States. But, Espada wants to keep
diversity alive. In, New Bathroom Policy at English High School there was a scenario of a
principle listening to kids in the bathroom speaking spanish and had heard his own name and was
unable to understand what they were saying about him. The principle was displeased by the boys

Napoleon the Leader
Eagle Success
Napoleon The Leader
I chose Napoleon Bonaparte for my report for being an outstanding emperor and officer for the
French. Even though he was very short, at the height of only 5 3 , he showed that size doesn t
matter and had his wide range of accomplishments support his thought. One of his more famous
achievements was him developing The Napoleonic Code or Civil Code. The Napoleonic Code or
Code Civil still forms the basis of French civil law. Another one of his amazing was escaping from
certain death and returning to emperor for his last 100 days.
Napoleon Bonaparte was born on August 15,1769 in Ajaccio, Corsica. He was the fourth child
out of a total of 7 brothers and sisters. His parents were Carlo Buonaparte and Letizia Buonaparte.
His father was a Corsican lawyer and his mother was a stay at home mom that had a very strict and
down to earth view on all things. Then once Napoleon had turned nine, his father sent him to a
French military academy. At the age of 16 he had finally joined the French army.
Just recently introduced into the French military he was commissioned as an artillery officer, this
was only after 1 year of training. His first assignment as an artillery officer was to capture Fort
Mulgrave. His successful capture promoted him to Brigadier General in December 1793. Shortly
after his promotion he was tried for treason against his country. He was later released for lack of
evidence and returned to command an artillery unit on the Italian

The Women s Suffrage Movement Essay
Women s Suffrage Movement On the 19th of September, 1893, New Zealand women
experienced a monumental change in political status when the right to vote in parliamentary
elections was extended to them. Prior to this it was only men who were permitted to vote.
Intense protest against such came at full force in the late 19th century, from women who were
seeking political and legal reforms. Achieving franchise for women was the primary focus of the
first wave of feminism in New Zealand. This was of massive importance because it was the first
major step in achieving gender equality in New Zealand. The suffragists directly opposed and
managed to rid New Zealand of a manifestation of the prevalent gender based discrimination that
women have dealt with throughout history. The idea that women should be barred from
participating in the political sphere while men are able to is seriously misogynistic. When
voting, people elect representatives who will make laws and policies that will govern their lives;
it is the opportunity to put forward an opinion which could aid in solving the issues that an
individual cares about. To deny women this right is to say that women s beliefs and opinions have
basically no worth. Enfranchisement, (as a result of extensive campaigning by suffragists) was
recognition of the fact that women s ideas are just as valid as men s. This event is also significant
as gaining the vote was an instigator for more feminist development, like the second wave of
feminism

Friday Night Lights Sustaining the ambitions of not only themselves but the alumni and town of
Odessa, Texas is a lot to ask from a young adult. That s exactly what Permian football provides to
the people of Odessa, where the post economic boom of the oil business has left the town in a
racially tense, economic crisis. The lights on Permian High School s football field are the only

He is eventually cleared to play through court cases and relentless commitment by the school s
administration. In the midst of all the madness and all of the hype surrounding high school
football in Texas, it is clear that there is no recognition of the importance of education. There is
so much emphasis put into high school football in these communities like Odessa that athletes
pour all of their hopes and dreams into it. Ultimately once these you athletes are eventually
stripped of the game of football, their futures are jeopardized and their lives are irrevocably
damaged. They are finally exposed to the real world more underprepared than ever. Fundamentally
all that is left is a few memories of athletic stardom and still an inadequate education. Bissinger does
a good job of depicting Permian s sex roles which emerge from the social significance surrounding
the football team. Gender inferiority is abundant throughout Permian s socialization. The football
identity was something that was revered. The girls of Permian desired anything having to do with
their football team, while their proximity to the epicenter of the program gave them more honorable

Hugo Film and Literature Adaptation
When looking at Hugo directed by Martin Scorsese the adaptation from the Novel The Invention
of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selzink I believe it is a close adaptation. There are differences however
in order to accomplish what the director was trying to portray. These differences are what made
the film a close adaptation. The way dialogue is portrayed differs in the novel. The filmhas time and
background music to elaborate on details. The novel has to keep the audience engaged. Camera
angle also help portray this dialogue. Thes camera angles can add meaning to the subject being
filmed (Desmond Hawkes p.28). In this aspect the characters can get into more detail in the film.

set director gather inspiration from various Paris stations and re created the station in an enclosed
set warehouse in England. This allowed the film crew and cast to iron out the details to make the
film as close an adaptation as possible. This was also tied with costume and lighting. The film crew
wanted to achieve the color palate and texture of the time period. This was done through the setting,
costume, makeup, lighting and editing. Overall the adaptation was very good. The small
differences only helped further the film to create the best film in Scorsese s eyes. These small

Food In The Elizabethan Era
Food of the Elizabethan Time
People s food of the Elizabethan time period depended on their social status and their financial
abilities while malnutrition, diseases, and deficiencies made it harder for them to find food. The
rich and the poor both had high risks of deficiencies because of the lack of sanitary foods and
places and lack of nutrients. The food consumed varied depending on wealth and social class. In the
Medieval period meat was a sign of wealth which carried over into the Elizabethan era. New
inventions and the rapidly growing industries contributed into the new food of this time.

The food was generally purchased from small markets and fairs in the area. After being cut and
cleaned, meat was sold in large livestock markets. In larger cities such as London, the food was
sold in bigger, specific markets that sold fish, dairy, or fruits and vegetables. After purchasing,
the food was brought home and cooked usually over an open flame by baking, boiling, salting,
smoking, or frying. Pots, pans, skillets, cauldrons, and kettles were popular cooking utensils.
Food preparation and appearance was most important to the rich, especially Elizabeth s cooks.
Although feasts and banquets had an expectation to withhold, food was prepared much like
what is seen today They would use props and bright colors to arrange the food in an appeasing way.
Peacocks feathers were used to make the food, arranged in shapes to satisfy one s eye, look better.

A Comparison of Mrs Casper, Mr Sugden and Mr Farthing s Treatment of Billy in Barry Hines
Billy s Last Stand In this essay I will attempt to compare the ways in which the three main
characters in this story treat Billy, Mrs Casper, Mr Sugden and Mr Farthing. The book is set in
the sixties in a mining village in Yorkshire. First of all I will discuss Billy, he is a young and
naive boy, he is about to leave school which is a place he hates. He doesn t get on with most of

There is no father figure for Billy to look up to, so maybe that is where he has his rebellious naive
attitude. To add to it all his motheris more interested in going out, than looking after her son, and
also her other son Jud, he doesn t look after Billy at all. An example of Billy s rebellious side is
on page 19. Billy get up to that shop and do as you re telled. He shook is head. His mother
stepped forward, but he backed off, keeping the same distance between them. Billy was already
late for school, yet his mother wanted him to go up to the shop and buy her cigarettes, this
shows she is more concerned with herself than Billy, and his life and school. Another example of
her not caring and showing affection was when Billy was reading his book and she asks about it,
and when he is half way through explaining she realises she is late and runs out to go to the pub,
leaving Billy to fend for himself. A kestrel hawk, what do you think it is?
I say what time is it?
She then runs out and leaves him to fend for himself.
Further more, when Billy needs his mum the most and actually goes to hug his mother when he is
in tears, she rejects him, shaking him off her and telling him to grow, this shows a lack of
maternal qualities once again, and even shows she is embarrassed to be a

Essay On Titration Of Carbonate And Bicarbonate
Determine the total alkalinity of (=[HCO 3 +2[CO2 3]) by preforming a titration with the use of
HCl.
Determine the Bicarbonate content (HCO 3 + OH в†’ CO2 3 + H2O) by preforming a titration
with the use of NaOH to convert HCO3 to CO2 3.
Calculate the composition of carbonate and bicarbonate in the solution.
Introduction
Acid base titrations are common laboratory practices that are used to determine the concentration of
either an acid or a base, by neutralizing the substance with a known concentration of an acid or base.
Crude sodium carbonate, also called soda ash, is commonly used as a commercial neutralizing agent.
In this experiment, we will determine the composition of an unknown solid, knowing only that it

Using this, the concentration of carbonate can be determined from the total alkalinity (see Results).
Experimental Information
Procedure
At the start of the experiment all the following glassware was cleaned with DI water, and soap;
then dried to remove traces of DI water that remained. The glassware used was a 50mL buret, (3)
150 mL volumetric flask, a 25mL glass pipet, and a 250mL volumetric flask. 2.5 grams of solid
unknown was added to the 250mL volumetric flask with the use of a funnel, and DI water was
filled to the mark on the 250mL volumetric flask, making sure to rinse the funnel, so the unknown
residue presented on the funnel can rinse down into the flask. After removing the funnel, we diluted
to the mark with DI water, and swirled the flask, until all of the powder was dissolved. This
experiment involved two different titrations. The first titration we observed was for total alkalinity
(=[HCO 3 +2[CO2 3]) which was measured by titrating the mixture with 0.1 M HCl to a
bromocresol green end point. After 2L of 0.1M HCl were prepared, and divided among all groups.
25.00 mL aliquot of unknown solution was pipetted into a 150mL volumetric flask, using
bromocresol green as the indicator, to observe the color change from a tinted light blue to a tinted
light green, being the

Justice Antonin Scalia Case Analysis
I have chosen to write my research paper on the late Justice Antonin Scalia. I wanted to know
more about his legal philosophy of originalism and the legacy he left. I wanted to read on some of
his landmark case rulings. I focused on one to include in my research paper. My thesis statement is
as follows:
Justice Antonin Scalia made no apologies for his legal philosophy of originalism, despite opposition
from other justices and the public. Scalia believed that the United States Constitution should strictly
be interpreted in terms of what the founding fathers had meant for it when the Constitution was
written. Scalia s critics contended that the Constitution is a living document, therefore, it should
allow the courts to take into consideration ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One case I learned more about is Roe v. Wade. By reading and understanding this cases and the
different opinions of the Justices, I would be able to better understand the case I chose for my
term paper. I had chosen the case, Planned Parenthood v. Casey and how Antonin Scalia brought
his view of originalism to this case. Furthermore, this lead me to read about Sandra Day O Connor,
who changed the standards to the abortion laws. I was able to read a variety of articles and
publications on Antonin Scalia and his childhood which helped me understand how his upbringing
contributed to his viewpoints in his career life. A helpful publication I found interesting was, The
Constitution in the Year 2000: Choices Ahead in Constitutional Interpretations. I was able to look
for other policies from the Government website, in Washington, D.C. Although not all of these
sources are included in the main content of my research paper, it gave me the insight, to understand
the variables that contributed to who Antonin Scalia was and the opinions he held and why they
differed from other Justices. I learned how Antonin Scalia was able to leave a lasting

The Process Of Conflict Resolution
Introduction
The process of conflict transformation includes numerous types of practices and approaches. It is
crucial for a conflict resolution practitioner to be able to self assess the entire practice of
intervention to get a clear notion of why the approach that has been used was successful or caused
fail. Conflict interveners whose practices are well established on theories of conflict resolution and
ongoing researches need to refine their assumptions and skills through an extensive process of self
reflection. Such refining would help them to conceptualize a theoretical basis of their approaches
and intervention techniques. They would be able to understand what intervention technique is
appropriate for a situation, without trying out one tool after another. The process of self asses or
reflective practice in conflict resolution is beneficiary to predict and understand conflict resolution
approaches consequences and to evaluate the success or failure of an intervention. For a conflict
resolution practitioner theory is the foundation upon which the nature of both conflict assessment
and conflict intervention are more understandable. For example, in a mediation process mediators
sometimes prefer and sometimes don t prefer to use caucus technique as a way for a better conflict
transformation. Theoretical foundation of involving of a mediation technique would help avoid an
unfortunate end of the entire process. Hence, it is important for a conflict intervener to understand

Significance Of Triple Entente
Before world war one, Europe was seeing great military advancements from Germany. This worried
France which led them to joining forces with Russia. Because of the alliance between France and
Russia, Germany retaliated by teaming up with the Austro Hungarian Empire. Then these countries
started to grow their military at a fast pace. This military growth frightened Britain, causing them to
join what would be known as the Triple Entente with France and Russia. This worried Germany
because now they were surrounded by what they would consider rival alliances (Cornish, par. 1 5).

Positive And Negative Effects Of Absolutism In Europe
During the 16th century to the 18th century, Monarchs in Europe used absolutism. Monarchs such
as King Louis and Peter The Great used absolute tactics because they wanted to consolidate power
from the nobility. They wanted to consolidate power from the nobility because they wanted to take
the power they lost during the middle ages. King Louis and Peter the Great used all multiple means
to reclaim power. They used their power to glorify themselves and their country. The practice of
absolutism can be argued to have both positive and negative effects.
King Louis XIV of France used absolute tactics. He used absolute tactics from the late 17th century
to the early 18th century. What does king Louis do to create absolutism? King Louis creates
absolutism by building the most brilliant court ever known to Europe, Versailles. He built the
court because he wanted the nobility to live there. They didn t really have a choice because he
commanded them to leave their castles in the country. King Louis wanted the nobility to live with
him because he wanted to watch over them. He wanted to watch over them because he wanted to
take their power. Without knowing it, the nobility challenged each other. They all fell into the
habit of trying to please him. It was very unwise to be disobedient or disrespectful to him while
living at Versailles (DOC 2). King Louis wanted absolute power because he wanted to be the one
and only to make decisions. He did not want to share that power with the

King Arthur, Sir Gawain and Superman Essay
Rick Riordan said A hero can go anywhere, challenge anyone, as long as he has the nerve. and he
is correct because that is exactly what King Arthur, Sir Gawain and Superman do. They risk their

of the Medieval Ages valued with bravery and courtly love which was reflected in the exploits and

the modern hero Superman.

Comparing it to Superman it shows his love life does not compare to this at all. Chretien s Lancelot
is a classic courtly lover. His total devotion to Arthur s queen gives expression to the twelfth
century s exploration of a new code of elegant courtship. (Medieval Arthurian Romances)
Launcelot, falling in love with King Arthur s queen, wife, Gwynevere is known as a courtly lover
because he risks his life just to save her even though they are not married showing his true devotion
to the King and Queen.
According to Allen King Arthur s favorite knight, Sir Launcelot, has fallen in love with the king s
wife, Gwynevere. The secret love affair is exposed by Sir Modred, Arthur s son by another woman,
and Gwynevere is sentenced to burn at the stake. While rescuing the imprisoned Gwynevere,
Launcelot slays two knights who, unknown to him at the time, are the brother of Sir Gawain, a
favorite nephew of Arthur s. After a reconciliation, Launcelot returns Gwynevere to Arthur to be
reinstated as queen. (Allen 248)
By this statement the reader can conclude they are resembling bravery in Sir Launcelot to risk his
life to save a woman that is not his, although Gwynevere is not his wife, but lover, he risked
everything to save her life. Also act resembles courtly love. This idea is also

The Struggle In Indignation In Washington Territory
The Civil War began with the Confederate shelling of Fort Sumter in Charleston Harbor, South
Carolina, on April 12, 1861. Washington Territory was just shy of eight years of age and more than
a quarter century from statehood. The most crowded town in the domain was Walla, with only 722
individuals, including 17 Indians and one African American. The number of inhabitants in the
whole domain, which until 1863 incorporated all of present day Idaho and some portion of
Western Montana, was a little more than 11,500. The countries far Northwest was a landmass far
from the blood doused combat zones of the War Between the States, without slaves, and populated
by men and ladies plan on making new lives in another area. An uncertain number of the domain s

Others volunteered or were recruited for the recently assembled First Washington Volunteer
Infantry, which never saw a fight. Numerous in the region were irresolute on the issue of
bondage, yet firmly for safeguarding the union. In spite of the fact that not one shot was
discharged in indignation in Washington Territory because of the war, nor any property
demolished, the general population of the Northwest, in the same way as whatever is left of the
country, were profoundly influenced by the result of this most deadly of American clashes.
Senator McGill s invitation to battle did not deliver a rush of energetic volunteers. His
declaration simply called upon residents to enroll, and did not charge it. The war was remote and
news was late and meager. There was still huge sensitivity for the Southern cause, and the full

The Rise Of The Papacy Essay
The Rise of the Papacy There many Roman Catholics worldwide, who looks up to the Pope s
authority. The great question is, what is the foundation of the Papacy? The rise of the papacy came

Nicene Christianity the state church of the Roman Empire. After this establishment, and the church
was the top religion in Rome, order was a must. The head of the church normally known as the

was suffering with 149,000 Chinese nationals visiting the UK in 2012 compared to the 1.1
million that visited the Schengen area. The Chinese visa process was simplified in 3 ways. The
first, Chinese travel agents can now send the UK application as part of the Schengen visa
application instead of two separate forms, to reduce duplication as many people travelling from
china will not travel solely to the UK. The next, a 24 hour superior priority service and finally a
mobile visa service cutting the entire process time to less than 5 minutes. This has already made a

  • 3. Napoleon the Leader Eagle Success Napoleon The Leader I chose Napoleon Bonaparte for my report for being an outstanding emperor and officer for the French. Even though he was very short, at the height of only 5 3 , he showed that size doesn t matter and had his wide range of accomplishments support his thought. One of his more famous achievements was him developing The Napoleonic Code or Civil Code. The Napoleonic Code or Code Civil still forms the basis of French civil law. Another one of his amazing was escaping from certain death and returning to emperor for his last 100 days. Napoleon Bonaparte was born on August 15,1769 in Ajaccio, Corsica. He was the fourth child out of a total of 7 brothers and sisters. His parents were Carlo Buonaparte and Letizia Buonaparte. His father was a Corsican lawyer and his mother was a stay at home mom that had a very strict and down to earth view on all things. Then once Napoleon had turned nine, his father sent him to a French military academy. At the age of 16 he had finally joined the French army. Just recently introduced into the French military he was commissioned as an artillery officer, this was only after 1 year of training. • 4. The Women s Suffrage Movement Essay Women s Suffrage Movement On the 19th of September, 1893, New Zealand women experienced a monumental change in political status when the right to vote in parliamentary elections was extended to them. Prior to this it was only men who were permitted to vote. Intense protest against such came at full force in the late 19th century, from women who were seeking political and legal reforms. Achieving franchise for women was the primary focus of the first wave of feminism in New Zealand. This was of massive importance because it was the first major step in achieving gender equality in New Zealand. The suffragists directly opposed and managed to rid New Zealand of a manifestation of the prevalent gender based discrimination that women have dealt with throughout history. The idea that women should be barred from participating in the political sphere while men are able to is seriously misogynistic. When voting, people elect representatives who will make laws and policies that will govern their lives; it is the opportunity to put forward an opinion which could aid in solving the issues that an individual cares about.
