Definition Commas are punctuation marks normally used to mark a pause in a sentence.
Comma Rule #1 Use a comma when listing nouns in a sentence. Ex: Bob ate an apple ,  a sandwich ,  and chips for lunch. Make sure you put a comma before the and.
Comma Rule #2 Use a  comma to separate parts of sequence within a sentence. Ex: Bob made the sandwich ,  grew the apple ,  and bought the chips.
Comma Rule #3 Use a comma before a conjunction like and, or, or but. Ex: I would like an apple ,  and a banana please.
