The Urban Legend of Bloody Mary Essay
Bloody Mary Version 3
The story of Bloody Mary is told in different versions all around the world has been included in
nine different movies (three in the past two years) (The Internet Movie Database). This particular
version of the popular urban legend of Bloody Mary originates locally from North Potomac,
Maryland. The storyteller is a female 19 year old Caucasian sophomore student, currently studying
psychology at the University. The story was collected in the spring on the University campus. After
dinner, in a one on one environment, she began the story of an urban legend from her childhood.
I remember this from back in second grade. It scared me so much.
It was Friday the 13th. Back in elementary school, we always ... Show more content on

The stories that speak of Bloody Mary s origins, surprisingly, tend to be more similar on their history
of the ghost than the accounts of ghost summoning ritual.
One full version of the urban legend posted on urbanlegendsonline.com begins with a little girl
named Mary who became ill and fell into a deep coma (Urban Legends Superstitions). The doctor
and family members, believing she was dead, buried her alive in a family plot next to their house.
The first night, Mary s mother heard a scream from Mary s grave, but no one else believed her.
Days later, the family finally dug up young Mary s grave to find Mary dead along with scratches on
the top of the coffin. Mary s fingernails were also covered in blood.
This version of the tale is similar to the version given by the storyteller at the beginning of this
article. Both accounts speak of a girl named Mary who was buried alive. The version offered by the
storyteller tells of a hateful motive that led to the return of the vengeful spirit. The version given by
urbanlegendsonline.com explains that what had happened was an accident due to negligence.
The second half the urban legend, or in most cases, the entire urban legend itself, tends to be much
more varied in explaining how to summon the ghost. The simple organization of these variations
leads to easily comparable details of the ghost story. Certain instructions require the date to be
Friday the 13th, while others do not.

What Does Genetic Inheritance May Influence One- Behaviour
Biological level of analysis Explain how genetic inheritance may influence one behaviour, with
reference to one relevant research study. Genetic inheritance is genes that are gain from parents or
ancestors, usually from generation to generation. Genes define characteristics in a person and are
passed down through generations; however, the environment can encourage these characteristics.
Genetic inheritance does play a role in one s behaviour also their environment. Researchers are not
quite sure on whether if genetic influence or the environment impacts one s behaviour the most.
Research done on families and how the family interacted with each other each day shows genetic
influence. The study to aid the relationship between genetic influence and conduct is the Minnesota
Twins study, which meant to watch the impact of environment and genetic influence upon a large
number of variables which included: brainpower remainder, identity and word related/professional
perks, by exploring the connection between these elements in twins raised separated utilizing MZTs
as a control. Regardless of these shortcomings the study does demonstrate a solid connection
between genetic influence and insight, proposing that genetic influence has a generous impact on
conduct. Heston, in 1966, led an examination to test to what degree schizophrenia is because of
hereditary works. The outcomes demonstrated that 10% of the grown ups with schizophrenic moms

huge lobby inside. The hotels were not expensive because they use the cheap hotel price to
attract more people to gamble in casinos. However, the room was roomy and clean. There were
more than six different restaurants in casinos. I tried international buffet, American Food and
Indian food in MGM. It was really convenient for me; I played the card games few hours, when I
felt hungry, I just call waiter to get some food and drinks. Besides all the gambling games, I
watched a magic show from David Copperfield in MGM. It was amazing that I just spent 90
dollars to sit in the first row to watch the show. I also went to other casino, which have big

The Internal Revenue Service Of The United States
1. The Internal Revenue Service was first used as a means to pay for war expenses. In 1862
President Lincoln and congress created the income tax to help fund the Civil War, but was later
removed after 10 years (IRS, 2016). In 1894 Congress tried to reenact the income tax but the
Supreme Court Stated it was unconstitutional. In 1913, with the 16th amendment, Congress was
able yet again to bring back income tax, which helped to pay for World War I and II. Somewhere in
the 1950 s the name changed from The Bureau of Internal Revenue to the internal revenue Service
which it is known for today (IRS, 2016). The IRS Commissioner and Chief of Counsel are selected

Marcel Duchamp ( 1887-1968 )
Marcel Duchamp (1887 1968) was a French artist, known for his contributions to the Dada
movement and for his influence on other artists that followed him. He was born in Blainville sur
Crevon, a small town in northern France where his father served as a notary. His mother was
artistically inclined and thus Duchamp became interested in sketching and painting when he was a
teenager. At the age of seventeen, he moved to Paris to study art at the AcadГ©mie Julian. As a
young artist, he was influenced by Cubismand Futurism, the two new art movements that were
developing at the time. The Cubist artists reduced objects (or people) to basic shapes and tried to
show different sides of images at once. The Futurists wanted to find ways to depict... Show more

In some cases he also created art by altering posters found on the street or prints of works by other
artists.
During the period of World War I (1914 1918), Duchamp became associated with a group of
Parisian artists known as the Dadaists. Dada was an art movement that was characterized by a spirit
of anarchic nihilism. The Dadaists were reacting to the madness of the European culture that had
found itself engaged in a bloody, devastating war. In the words of Tomkins, dada s organized
insanity was a direct response to the nightmare of unending, meaningless slaughter in the trenches.
Another writer, Sarane Alexandrian, describes Dada as a detonation of anger which showed itself
in insults and buffoonery. The Dadaists also attacked the traditional values of art. As claimed by
Hans Richter in his book on the Dada movement, these attacks were meant to mock the pretensions
of European culture and the traditional obsession of artists, art critics and art lovers with all that is
holy.
Dada is often referred to as anti art and the Dada movement is often called an anti movement. As
noted by Alexandrian, the Dadaists seemed to be interested in rejecting everything that existed in
art and culture at the time. In Alexandrian s words, it was an anti movement which opposed not

What Is The Difference Between Monet s Garden And Picasso...
Differences between Two Famous Artists Artwork
Artwork could be defined as a universal language that can carry ideas and emotions of an artist
toward audiences via a particular narrative. Presently, there are many memorable art pieces from
various artists. Claude Monet and Pablo Picasso have become prominent from their unique styles of
artwork, which conveys a profound feeling through basic elements of art, such as the use of color
and a narrative. Although two of them are highly notable for art, there are four differences between
Monet s garden and Picasso s garden, which are artist s background information, technique,
inspiration and meaning.
The first difference between Monet s garden and Picasso s garden is artist s background information.
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Meaning is an explanation that uses to describe an emotion in the scene, which leads the
audience to a better interpretation of a narrative in the painting. Monet uses a quick painted
style to portray reality, which, in this case, is a collective joy of intimate friends in a garden
(Walton, 2007). In the foreground, there is a graceful woman sitting under the tree and smiling
at the sounds of her two friends flirting behind her. A man and a woman seem to share a
flirtatious conversation as the woman appears a pink flush on her cheeks while answering the
man s question, covering her face with a bouquet of flowers in her hands, and sneakily looking at
the man s face. Another woman, young and innocent, staying in the background, is delightfully
admiring the flower bushes around her with a beaming smile appeared on her lips. She seems to
be one of the nature lovers who can solely spend most of her time outdoor amid the flower
garden. The feelings of these three people are all freshened up by the delightful talk and the
support of natural surrounding around them. On the contrary, Picasso prefers a sharp painting style
represented in geometric shapes, such as triangle, rectangle or oval, which may lead audiences to
have a profound feeling ( Pablo Picasso, 2009). Considering the painting named Seated woman in
a garden , Picasso captures a moment of a woman sitting alone in a spacious garden. Perhaps the
woman is waiting for her lover at the appointment; however, as she waits longer she does not
seem to see her love, therefore appearing gloomy features. In addition, the nature around her
seems to reciprocate her grief by appearing leaves in a dull tone of green color instead of the
freshly light green as revealed in the Monet s garden. Thus, the painting of Monet is more
appealing due to the delightful story of lively friends, a pleasant couple, and a nature lover, which

Women s Employment During World War II

To what extent did women working factory jobs change feminine roles in society? The years from
1939 to 1945 will be the focus of this investigation, to allow for an analysis of women s
employment before and during the war.
The first source which will be evaluated in depth is a letter written by Mary Anderson in October
of 1940. The origin if this source is a letter written by the director of the Women s Bureau of the

Women s employment increased in America from under one percent in 1939 to over Forty six
percent in 1943, and ninety percent of single women between the ages 18 59 were engaged in
some form of factory work over the course of the war (Striking Women). Women were urged to
take masculine positions in the workplace, in order to free up able bodied men for the line of
duty. While women took many jobs over the course of the war the factory jobs were in the most
demand. Factory workers were needed in order to build essential supplies for the war effort, such
as bombs, heavy machinery, and auxiliary. The push for women showed a changing view of how
capable women were sought after by companies. In 1943, more than 310,000 women worked in the
U.S. aircraft industry, making up 65 percent of the industry s total workforce compared to just 1
percent in the pre war years (Striking Women). Women workers were recruited by the munitions
industry, which was shown through the U.S. government s Rosie the Riveter propaganda
campaign. Rosie the Riveter became one of the most successful recruitment tools in American
history (Striking Wome ). Prior to World War II, propaganda targeting women had only been asking
them to buy war bonds, plant victory gardens, and ration foods (Women, Gender, and World War).
Rosie the Riveter was the first time a government had released a propaganda campaign where
women had a job and were independent. This showed a newfound respect for women and their
skills. The changes in societal interpretation of women allowed them to become more than
homemakers, and put more focus on what women could do rather than what they looked like. The
push for women in factories during the years 1939 to 1945 showed that women could be trusted
around dangerous materials, conveyed a sense of

The explosive response that Marvel s Black Panther has received in just a few weeks made it

that the character s eventual saviors are his own past acts of generosity and mercy. On the other

Wind, Earthquake And Its Effect On The Earthquake Essay
Unlike wind, earthquake is a different phenomenon which generates a ground motion. The
intensity or acceleration of the earthquake depends upon the magnitude and location of its
epicenter. The seismic waves caused by the earthquake cause inertial forces in the building. The
inertial forces are created when an outside force tries to move a body in rest which happens in
this case as seismic waves tries the move the building in rest. We all know that when a building is
subjected to inertial forces it should obey the newton s second law of motion.
F=M.a (3)
Where F is inertial force and M denotes mass of building and a is the acceleration with which the
building is moved due to seismic activity.
Duration, velocity and displacement:
From the newton s second law, it is evident that acceleration is a key factor in determining the
forces on a building. But there is one more criteria that we have to look into is the duration of the
earthquake. Earthquake that has moderate acceleration, sustained over time, can cause much more
damage to buildings than a single much larger peak. It weakens the building structure and reduces
its durability. The strong motion duration is often termed as bracketed duration (Arnold 2013). This
is the shaking duration above a certain threshold acceleration value, which is 0.05g, and is defined
as the time between the first and last peaks of motion that exceeds this threshold value (Arnold
2013). The strong motion

This treatment approach is based on cognitive and learning theories, tackling misleading beliefs
related to the traumatic events of acknowledgments related to the abuse and provides a

effective CBT really can be for PTSD. (Resick et al, 2002) carried out an investigation comparing
CBT with strong cognitive restructuring focus and CBT with a strong exposure focus and to a
waiting list control of rape survivors. Prior to this experiment approximately 80% of patients who
completed either form of CBT no longer met the criteria for PTSD. Once this investigation was

lost the PTSD diagnoses. Only a year after this investigation Bryant, Moulds, Guthrie, Dang Nixon,
(2003) restructured the experiment comparing exposure alone, exposure plus cognitive
restructuring, and supportive counselling in civilians with PTSD resulting from various traumatic

Essay On Vulnerability
Alternate Title
Where Have All the Vulnerabilities Gone?
Application development and use has been changing for several years. The growth of software as a
service has created new challenges for security tools challenges that legacy products are simply
unable to meet. Relying on vulnerability scanners that used public databases of vulnerabilities can
have disastrous consequences, but it was often necessary to do so. However, scanners cannot
defend against a vulnerability that they cannot identify and therein lies the problem.
The problem becomes especially acute for cloud based applications. Vulnerabilities in shrink
wrapped software can be quickly added to databases of known vulnerabilities. The ISV may mention
that the current ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Either the engineers are inherently better at developing cloud based software that is remarkably
free of vulnerabilities or the vulnerabilities are not included in public databases of vulnerabilities.
The latter choice is the more logical conclusion.
Whether apps are developed by an ISV or by a third party provider, the chances are excellent that
the apps will contain third party libraries, recycled code snippets and/or open source code or
libraries. Often, all of these elements exist within the API used to develop the application. Building
on what already exists can make application development faster and more economical, but it also
carries the risk of an unknown vulnerability being repeatedly incorporated into numerous and
frequently diverse applications. Although these vulnerabilities may be new, it is also possible that
they have gone undetected for months or even years. However, since the SaaS vendor s
infrastructure is in AWS and the application is deployed on AWS, neither the network nor the
application is available for the rest of the world to scan.
Clearly, the way that SaaS vendors approach security is due for a change. Every application is
different, and relying on public databases to identify vulnerabilities in SaaS applications is asking
for trouble. Although the practice of identifying vulnerabilities existing within

Endometriosis a disorder where the tissue lining of the uterus forms outside of the uterus causing
pelvic pain. Endometriosis was first noticed in 1860, by Austrialian pathologist Karl Freiherr von
Rokitansky. He first called the disease an adenomyoma . In the 1900 s there were only 20
worldwide cases of the disease. In the past many women have lived with this disease undiagnosed.
Some factors could be environmental issues, food and general health and other numerous factors.
No one knows for sure what causes this disease, but it is a common health condition that affects

Pollution Prevention Program in Oregon
Executive Summary
The EPA has requested input from state officials on what policy measures, if any, should be taken to
help in the mitigation of mercury pollution from the dental sector. The Oregon Department of
Environmental Quality has produced this memorandum to assist in the analysis, as well as possible
solutions to the amalgam issue. Data from this memorandum pertains specifically to the State of
Oregon, but can be extrapolated for nationwide analysis. We examined three policy options: status
quo, mandatory amalgam separators, and Significant Industrial User status. Each policy option took
focuses on aspects of effectiveness, efficiency, equity and feasibility. Effectiveness and efficiency of
policy options looks and potential pollution mitigation and costs on a quantities level, while equity
and feasibility take a more qualitative approach.
Our analysis finds that of the three options, mandating the installation and maintenance of
amalgam separators would be the optimal option for the EPA. This policy option provides a more
effective pollution prevention program than the status quo, at a cheaper cost than the SIU option,
is fair in which stakeholders bear the risks and costs, and is politically feasible based on current
state initiatives. The key points of this policy can be outlined below:
11,500 less pounds of mercury flowing to POTWs
600 less pounds of mercury entering the ecosystem
850% less expensive than the SIU option
316,000% less expensive than the

Look to You by Whitney Houston. This song came out right after Houston got out of rehab,
making it seem like it was her recovery song and the way she told the world she was back in the
entertainment world (Oprah Winfrey Show, 2009). In an interview with Oprah Winfrey,
Houston told her about the new song and album. She said, That makes it real. The changes that

Why Is The First Amendment Important
The first amendment states your basic liberties. It is one of the most important bills in the bill
of rights. These basic liberties are freedom of religion, freedom of speech, freedom of the press,
freedom of assembly, and freedom to petition the government. This amendment also has a lot of
historical significance and there are a lot of court cases today that involve this amendment.
There are also quite a few current issues involving the first amendment. Freedom of Religion
means that the government can t force you to accept only one set of religious beliefs or the way
you worship. You can worship your own way and have your own religious beliefs as long as they
don t violate other people s rights. Today this is a very big debate when it comes to prayer and
schools. Several cases have been brought to the Supreme Court about this and whether students

Essay on The Training and Job Information on Carpenters
Introduction
Ever wonder who had built your home? Carpenters did. They build many different kinds of things,
from door frames to houses. You have to complete high school, and then get some training in order
to become one. The carpenters in Alaska get a higher pay than those in the lower 48, which is nice.
Carpenters do many types of things, like cutting lumber and installing insulation. Being a carpenter
is very important because they build the homes of Americans.

Carpenters have many tasks, and it is important that they carry them out.
Skills Many different types of skills are required to be a carpenter. In order to be a successful
worker, they have to have good math problems. Most of the time, workers have to cut and shape
materials to fit in perfectly, which requires math. Another important part is that they have to
make them quick. If a person is slow, then everybody else can be waiting for them. That would
slow the process down, and they may get laid off to get more training. Manual dexterity is a very
significant part of carpentry. People have to have good eye hand coordination. If someone is too
clumsy, they can possibly injure someone. They have to be able to handle high powered tools and
machines. Another thing a person needs is good stamina. Most of the time, workers have to lift
heavy equipment and materials. Being strong will keep one from getting an injury. Having good
problem solving skills is important too. Sometimes, plans change. They will need to figure out
how to solve problems, and modify building plans. A big thing that carpenters need to know
about is raw materials and the costs and delivery of them. Knowing these can make big difference
in expenses when working on a project. One thing carpenters are always working with: tools.

The Nature Of Technology In Fahrenheit 451 By Ray Bradbury
I rate Fahrenheit 451 a one star , because I found the writer s style uninteresting. The author, Ray
Bradbury, failed to pull me in, and the novel didn t open my eyes to the viewpoints portrayed in
the novel. Although Fahrenheit 451 carries themes of rebirth of society, government censorship,
and the nature of humanity, these themes were overwhelmed by one theme that bled into every
action, dialogue piece, and narrative section: technology corrupts. This theme could have made
for a wonderful book, as there are intriguing and thoughtful pieces on the nature of technology,
like the TV series Black Mirror. Black Mirror offers both positives and negatives to each piece of
technology it covers in each episode it poses questions like how... Show more content on

Knowing this, many of the characters make more sense: Mildred and her friends can t even
comprehend the thought of reading, and every character who does read has amazing wisdom,
no matter their age. Which brings me to the second point of why I dislike the book: it preaches
at every available moment. Whether it s the teenage girl giving a monologue or the scared old
man, all the characters sound the same when they re preaching Bradbury s anti technology
agenda. Subsequently, they don t exist as round characters, they only exist to preach Bradbury s
views, which ranges from the dislikes of the arts or listening to radio through earbuds. He
presumes that someone who watches TV or listens to radio cannot enjoy the world around them,
however, in my view, these medias have only broadened our view of the world. Many of us will
not be able to go to Africa, but through TV documentaries, we can. The jazz of New Orleans
would be out of reach for most, were it not for radio and other electronic transmissions. Perhaps
Bradbury might have had a real fear of the changes a world view would initiate when the book
was written, but now it carries the gravitas of someone wearing a tin foil hat. I couldn t enjoy the
book because I found the characters flat and uninteresting. Many of them have no character
development except for Montag, but his development doesn t come from a great self

A Separate Peace Movie Vs Book
There are so many changes between the book and the movie. The book was a lot better than the
movie I think. When a producer makes a movie out of a book, they take the most interesting
things from the book and just erase the rest of it. Us book lovers absolutely hate when they go to
watch a movie based off a book they love and they leave out the most important details. The book
first opens up with Frank Bryce s history, about how he was accused of murdering the Riddle
family he worked for, many years ago. This is omitted from the movie. Bertha Jorkins, the Ministry

arrive at school Peeves is throwing water balloons at the students as they are gathered in the hall,
and they see the sorting ceremony for the new first years, but this is omitted from the movie. In
the book, the Sorting Hat sings a new song about the history of Hogwarts and the Founders
which is not shown in the movie. The arrival of the Durmstrang and Beauxbatons schools occurs
on 30th of October and not on the 1st of September as in the movie. Padma Patil is in Ravenclaw
and not in Gryffindor. Malfoy as a ferret scene is very extended in the movie. In the movie,
Moody demonstrates the three Unforgivable Curses on a single spider, ultimately killing it. In
the book, he uses a different spider for each one, and later is also shown using the Imperius
Curse on students in order to teach them how to overcome its effects. Madame Maxime is said
to be the same height as Hagrid, while in the movie she s noticeable taller. The movie implies
that Durmstrang is an all boy school and Beauxbatons all girl, the book however, portraits both
school as mixed gender schools, as a boy is shown in Beauxbatons and a girl is shown in
Durmstrang. Neither school does any presentation when they arrive. Fleur Delacour as a part
Veela is omitted. Probably because the Veela and all the explanations given about them at the
World Cup are also not present. Also, the Beauxbatons pupils are rather unhappy about being at
Hogwarts. Fred and George are not the only students to try to find a way around the age line on the

The During The Dutch Golden Age
Portraiture During The Dutch Golden Age
The 17th century was a very successful period for the Dutch Republic, as the golden age started,
trading has increased, exploration was at its peak, and merchants were becoming very wealthy and
powerful. At this time paintings were a form of communication to express power, value, and social
class. During the golden age Dutch artists have specialized and master the genre of still life,
portraiture, scene s of everyday life, and landscape painting. Middle class merchants and wealthy
people were the driving force for the demand of art, because luxury was associated with power (De
Vries). As a result people wanted to express through art their power and wealth in paintings.
Furthermore, paintings also let painters express the current fashion and luxurious lives of people.
Even though everyone interprets a painting in a very different way, portraits from the Dutch golden
age usually emphasized a certain predominant value in its paintings. Portraiture, from the Dutch
golden age, mainly focused on emphasizing, pride, power, prosperity, and idealism in its paintings.
During the 17th century, as the Dutch golden age was thriving the trading and collecting of
artwork has gained interest in people. More middle class citizens were in larger cities for easy
access to merchandise. It was a time where Dutch trade, science, warfare, and art were the most
well known around the world. During the golden age one of the main luxury items was art, more

Studies continue to demonstrate that people who marry tend to be better off with financial and
medical health. One of the most important aspects of gay marriage is that it establishes legal
rights for couples which makes it easier for people to make social and legal commitments for one

A Project Manager For Monitor And Control The Execution Of...
Once a project is begun, it is important for a project manager to monitor and control the execution
of the endeavor. A project manager must observe and examine how the work is progressing, the
costs, application of the resources required, and if the schedule is being sustained with the overall
project plan. This is especially important when a project manageruses the earned value management
(EVM) system to track and monitor an undertaking. EVM and variance management must have
accurate material and labor costs accounted in order to be an effective tool.
Labor and Material Costs
Resources are essential for completion for any project, but must be managed differently because
of the constraints and accounting each specifically demands. Labor, materials, and equipment fall
under the definition of resources and how they are managed within a project will greatly impact
the endeavor (Larson Gray, 2014). An important resource for a project is the human resource or
labor and the skills that each individual brings to the project team. Ordinarily, direct labor is
classified by skills and the costs related to provide those skills to complete the work. Direct labor
costs are normally calculated by multiplying the hours required to complete the task by the salary
scale designated for the task. Indirect labor costs encompass any support staff that is not directly
involved within the project, like human resource, administrative, and other ancillary staff (Webb,
2016). Even though these

Productions and Operations Management
Productions and Operations Management I The three categories of statistical quality control The
three categories of SQC include the traditional statistical tools, acceptance sampling, and
statistical process control (SPC). Traditional statistical tools are descriptive statistics like the
mean and range, used to describe qualitative characteristics. Acceptance sampling is a process of
taking a random sample or portion of a batch and deciding whether to accept or reject the whole
batch. SPC is a process that uses samples to determine whether a process is functioning normally
or not (Ryan, 2011). Traditional statistical tools describe the quality characteristics although they
do not elucidate the extent of the quality (whether good or bad). Acceptance sampling determines
whether an entire batch produced should be accepted or rejected after the goods have been
produced. However, SPC tracks the process to ensure it is functioning properly for a given period.
These tools can be used together effectively. Traditional statistical tools are used as inputs into SPC,
which is updated frequently enough to ensure that quality problems are identified in good time.
Finally, after a batch has been produced, acceptance sampling is used to determine whether the
batch is of good quality or not. The statistical process control Statistical process control is a
technique of controlling, monitoring, and improving processes via statistical analysis. The
philosophy behind this tool holds that

scary is that it had no bars that went over your shoulder so it looked like you could fall out of
your seat easily. How can you go to an amusement park and not ride the best ride there? I knew I
could talk her into riding it at sometime but I just ignored her comment about not riding the
coaster. Michaela and I quickly agreed on what rides to ride and went on from rides to rides.
Before entering the line for a smaller roller coaster called The Tornado, Michaela was hesitant
even ride this rollercoaster but with a little bit of convincing, she jumped in line with me. After
five minutes of waiting in line, Michaela and I got to the front and saw the old rigidity cart pull
up in front of us. We got in our seat and sat down. We go up the first hill screaming loudly. Then
there was a quick turn and I felt an odd substance hit my face. I thought to myself that this wasn t a
water ride. I look over to see Michaela and all I saw was her laughing. She exclaimed how she was
sorry because she drooled on me. I felt so disgusted yet I had to laugh. Later on that day, after
riding many rides we did end up riding The Monster and it was so fun but when it was 5 o clock we
headed back to the hotel room to get ready for the

King Henry V Character Analysis
Throughout history, it has been difficult to have a dynastic succession produce good leaders.
However, in William Shakespeare s Henry V, King Henry V is acclaimed as the dynastic successor
to England. Henry has a valid claim to the French throne, but France already has a successor, the
Dauphin. With some convincing and financing from the clergy, Henry decides to fight for his place
as the French heir. In the Battle of Agincourt, Henry demonstrates strong leadership at a young
age. As previously explained in Act I, Henry s father died when he was young, and Henry V
gained a new demeanor and changed his wild ways into proper ethics for royalty. Henry s
personality change leads to his noble leadership, and he seems to lead by example and in words
even as a young king. King Henry s conduct causes him to be a just ruler. King Henry s morality,
impartiality, and authority cause him to be a just ruler. King Henry s morality causes him to be
a just ruler. When Henry rises to the throne, he sheds his reckless personality as much as
possible, and he even distances himself from an old friend, John Falstaff. King Henry becomes
a morally and mentally sound king for England. Henry gains important morals for a ruler such as
humility, grace, piety, and wisdom even at his young age. Henry shows a glimpse of his
humility when he addresses the soldiers before the siege of Harfleur to inspire them for battle.
Henry says that they all must go Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once / more (3.1.1 2).
By addressing the soldiers as dear friends, Henry acknowledges them as equals and even goes as
far as saying that they are his comrades. His humility is loved by his people, so they respond as
motivated and united front for England. A good leader must never hold his/her head higher than
his/her subjects because this makes the ruler more popular when he/she considers all people
equally. Also, Henry is loved by the Church for his piety and other morals. As the Bishop of
Canterbury and the Bishop of Ely discuss the bill about to be passed which would tax the church,
the Bishops mention that Henry V is full of grace and fair reward. / And a true lover of the Church

Georgia Vacation Essay Geography
Georgia Destination Essay Georgia contains some of the world s famous attractions. Many
people from all over the world come to see them. Some famous attractions located in Georgia are
the Amicalola Falls State Park, Six Flags over Georgia, Georgia Aquarium, Stone Mountain, and
the World of Coca Cola. Three of my favorite places in Georgia that I have been to are Stone
Mountain, Amicalola falls, and Six Flags over Georgia. Stone Mountain is home to the world s
biggest piece of exposed granite. As you are walking, you see the mountain and if you look even
closer you see a carving of three Confederate heroes of the Civil War. They are President Jefferson

Six Flags contains rides for kids and adults. My family and I decided to go here. When we got to
Six Flags, all you could hear were people screaming and yelling on the rides. That just made you
want to go on the rides more. Some of the rides in Six Flags are Acrophobia, Batman, Dare Devil
Dive, Georgia Cyclone, Georgia Scorcher, Goliath, Gotham City Crime Wave, Great American
Scream Machine, and Mindbender. We went on only some of the rides, because the lines were
very long and it was also very hot. We also went to Hurricane Harbor. It is located inside of Six
Flags. Hurricane Harbor has a giant wave pool inside. It also has water slides that are closed.
The waterslides are called Bonzai Pipelines. It also has something that is called the Tsunami
Surge. In this water ride, you sit with three other people in a tube. This ride will spin you 360
degrees. Inside there is also the Paradise Island. The Paradise Island is a playground that has
water blasters, climbing nets, and waterslides. If you are in the mood to get drenched, you can
go under the enormous bucket of water and when it is full it tips all the way over leaving you all
wet. It started to get late, so we decided to start heading to the parking lot. Overall, I had an

Certainty According To Descartes Essay
the senses. These senses he has received sometimes found to be deceptive or misleading;
therefore, it needs discretion not to put full confidence in our past conception of senses but still
there are yet lots of things that can be known by way of sense and are too liable to be doubted.
Further, Smith is probably correct in stating that the errors to which humanity is liable result not
from wrong conclusion rather when inadequately understood experiences are claimed, or when
conclusions are drawn hastily and without foundation. Furthermore, when there is a clash of ideas
and doubts concerning one`s beliefs, it can lead to cynicism and disillusion therefore it is prudence
to put confidence in the power of human reason that is why Descartes... Show more content on

Descartes` method of doubt is not blindly skepticism rather journey of discipline to arrive at
indubitable principles. In order to arrive at certainty meaning absolute foundation, he preferred to
use mathematics due to its clarity and certainty in contrast to sense experience. As a matchless
quality that is distributed to all humanity equally, reason may enable us to arrive at indubitable
certainty as we search for logical clear ideas. On the contrary, reliance on knowledge that comes
from sense experience may potentially lead to imperfect concepts. Therefore, Descartes` Method of
Doubt that is seeking for certainty by using reason which is a quality that can make perfection of
humanity guards men from inferring wrong judgment concerning truth and certainty. Locke`s
approach of sense experience might possibly lead to relativity that people claim what I feel become
mores of life rather than what I think and determine. But Descartes` Method doubting as
investigation and examination about certainty is foundation for other edifice. And precisely
significant to Christianity because the Scripture itself exhorts us to search and examine about truth

A Comparison Of The Epic Heroes, And The Characters Of...
Beowulf represents a type of protagonists rarely seen in the modern world of entertainment, the
epic hero. For centuries their simplistic tales of overcoming evil and their demeanor have
dominated Western notions of masculinity: Control over emotion, physical strength, arrogance,
innate morality, and an alpha male mentality. It might be ideal for older cultures and the Anglo
Saxon warriors that needed a model of morality they need to idolize, but in our times we need
more. The America we live in is more global, more diverse, more interconnected that any previous
civilization. Our definition of masculinity has changed as we progressed and learned more about
ourselves as humans. We are postmodern society, where good and evilare subjective, and we crave
for empathy and connection. Berserk s main character Guts, is such heroof our time. On the surface
the two heroes share many similarities, they are both buff hyper masculine males, they both wield
enormous swords to fight fantastical monsters. Yet there are fundamental differences between the
two. These became apparent after reading and analyzing both Beowulf and Berserk. Epic heroes
are the epitome of good. They are good. They are the personified version of a culture s beliefs on
morality and virtue. Their stories are cut out: a heroic quest/journey, good versus evil, and the
triumph of the hero over the villain in the end. Simplistic in nature, epic heroes, like Beowulf, rarely
show genuine emotion and rarely teach us,

Ken Kesey s One Flew Over The Cuckoo s Nest
The 1960s was a decade that saw Americans experiment with mind altering drugs, and test the
limits of societal norms and behaviors with respect to what is acceptable and what is not
acceptable. As part of Ken Kesey s participation with drug experimentation, as well as time spent
working at a California mental health facility, Ken Kesey formed the basis for his novel, One
Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest, published in 1962. The book was enormously popular, selling
nine million copies, especially after the award winning movie released in 1975. Even in the face
of all this success, many school districts have voted to ban this book from their curricula. The
reasons for removal have been numerous, but can be summed up by one Ohio school, which said
that the book glorifies criminal activity, has a tendency to corrupt juveniles, and contains
descriptions of bestiality, bizarre violence, and torture, dismemberment, death, and human
elimination (Baldassarro). Although the book contains scenes of brutality and abuse to patients,
as well as racist, profane, and vulgar language, which could be disturbing to some, One Flew Over
the Cuckoo s Nest should be kept in high school curriculum because it questions society s
definition of insanity and shows the importance of expressing one s sexuality in a healthy and
responsible way. The book is set in a mental hospitaland is narrated by Chief Bromden, a Native
American who has repetitive fits of schizophrenia. The ward is run by the

How Did Nietzche Contribute To Religion
Friedrich Nietzche was born in Rocken. He spent much of his time alone, reading the Bible.
Nietzsche s father died in 1849. The young man withdrew deeper into religion.
Friedrich received a scholarship to Schulpforta, an elite prepatory school with only 200 students, in
October 1858. The scholarship as intended to fund Nietzche s training for the clergy. His mother,
Franziska, and his young sister, Elizabeth, are dedicated to Friedrich s success, certain of his future.
At the age of 18,Nietzsche lost his faith in traditional religion. His faith received a fatal blow when
he found philosophy. In 1865 Nietzsche discovered Schopenhauer s World as Will and Idea. The
work forever challenged Nietzsche s view of the world. Schopenhauer s ... Show more content on

This time the army refused him due to his poor eyesight, in addition to his weak upper body.
Nietzsche found it possible to serve as a medic, allowing him as close to medicine as his nature
would ever allow. As he quickly learned, Nietzsche did not like the sight of blood, and the
suffering of others made him ill. He eventually fell ill, possibly due to stress, and was sent home.
The Birth of Tragedy out of the Spirit of Music was published in 1872. With the publication of
The Birth of Tragedy, Nietzsche returned to Baasle to lecture. The work became a subject of
ridicule in academic circles, but the nobility and nationalists loved it. Nietzsche became a celebrity,
standing he put to work on behalf of his friend Wagner. The two men were able to convince the
government to fund the construction of the Bayreuth theatre, which would feature Wagner s works.
The Bayreuth was completed in 1876. On August 12, 1876, the Emperor arrived to hear Wagner
s The Ring of Nibelung, a work Wagner considered his masterpiece. To his dismay, Nietzsche
found he hated the work. He made an excuse to depart, and promptly took a vacation to reconsider
his opinion of Wagner s music and Prussian culture in general. At least Nietzsche was not alone:
the long multi day performance proved a failure financially and in terms of attendance. Wagner s
public star faded...at least for a bit.
Physically and mentally, Nietzsche collapsed in 1879. He was certain death was near and even

Persuasive Speech On Sea Turtles
Imagine a world of chaos. We see things like that all the time in movies, where zombies roam the
earth and there are just those few main survivors left. The world is in ruins. If ocean life was to
die out, there would be a collapse of civilization as a whole. Just like we see on TV, the world
would become a place where no order exists. This would lead to human extinction. The ocean dies,
we die along with it, and if sea turtles die, so does the ocean. In simple words, one could say that
human life depends on sea turtles. In this speech I will be covering three topics. First, how a sea
turtles diet benefits marine life and humans, second, how sea turtles provide homes and food for
other species, and last, how sea turtles protect beaches from washing away.
Sea turtles have been a big help in maintaining the health of the world s ocean for more than 100
million years. They help by keeping up coral reefs all the way to transporting nutrients to
beaches. Major changes have occurred in oceans everywhere due to the decline of the sea turtle
population. Oceans are unhealthy because of this. It is time for us to protect the sea turtles and
rebuild their population to ensure healthy oceans in the future. According to oceana.org, there
are seven species of sea turtles that roam the world, six of which inhabit U.S. waters, and have
been listed as either endangered, or threatened. Up until now, all six of these species are not at a
healthy level despite protection measures from the Endangered Species Act (ESA). Some
populations even continue to decline. Even at a diminished population, sea turtles play an
important role in ecosystems. They are also extremely important to humans because they keep
oceans healthy, and we use the ocean as a food source. They keep up the health of the ocean in
many different ways, all of which, are very important. Sea turtles are one of the few animals that
eat sea grass. Just like normal lawn grass, sea grass needs to be constantly cut short to help it
grow across the sea floor rather than just getting really long blades. Without constant grazing, sea
grass beds obstruct currents and provide a suitable habitat for the growth of slime molds. Sea grass
beds provide breeding grounds for many

How Did Charles I Influence The World
As King of Spain Charles became ruler of many greater and lesser European states. He was the
heir of three of Europe s leading dynasties, Habsburg Monarchy, Burgundian Netherlands, and
the Crowns of Castile and Aragon. From Spain he ruled over large areas in Central, Western, and
Southern Europe, and the Spanish colonies in the Americas and Asia. Charles was
the first king to rule Castile, LeГіn, and Aragon at the same time. In 1519,
Charles became Holy Roman Emperor and Archduke of Austria. From that point forward, his
empire spanned nearly four million square kilometers across Europe, the Far East, and the

A commentary of the poem The Broken Tower by Hart Crane
A Broken Tower, by Hart Crane, is a metaphor rich poem that is very ambiguous but seems to
describe the difficulties of the creative process and the way in which the artist is bound and
compelled by it. Crane uses many religious metaphors and references, directly mentioning God and
also bells, which are associated with churches. It is possible to interpret the poem in a religious
sense, but it could be argued that religion and art are similar metaphors; that, for the poet, his
writings are both a method of spiritual expression and a search for truth. The title, A Broken Tower,
refers to a continuing metaphor in the poem and suggests the deconstruction of established
paradigms which is necessary for artistic progress. Throughout the poem,... Show more content on

This is congruent with the need to destroy the tower, or destroy traditional ideas. Supporting the
strong visual imagery is the frequent mention of sound: the choir, voices, reveilles and echoes.
Imperfection is once again alluded to with the entry of the poet into the broken world in order to
trace the visionary company of love, its voice. This seems to directly refer to his creative process
in seeking truth and beauty in his writing. It is also the most positive concept expressed in the
poem thus far a wholly positive one, rather than the difficult process of destroying the obsolete
mentioned before. However, unlike the mighty tower, this voice is an instant in the wind and not
for long in other words, transitory. It is also mysterious and beyond the poets control, like the bells
in the tower, as the poet admits he know[s] not whither [it is] hurled.
Crane makes a more specific reference to his art; his word, as opposed to the Word of that tribunal
monarch of the air. The latter belongs to God, who is depicted as powerful and judgemental: the
deity of the Broken Tower. This could be seen as a personification of the judgemental ostracism
that Crane faced as a homosexual. The God metaphor is expanded on, with mention of Christs
wounds pledged once to hope, but also a rejection of it: cleft to despair. In this stanza, Crane offers
his word a replacement of the old Tower, symbolizing a

Doppler Shift
Even today, signs of the Big Bang are present throughout the universe. One example that scientists
use is the Doppler shift. This shows us that as objects get farther away they emit a red light and as
they get closer the emit blue. The Doppler shift is used on the galaxies around us; showing that
these galaxies are emitting a red light. This means that the universeis expanding, and by looking at
this expansion in reverse we are able to see the universe getting smaller and smaller back to the
beginning, that 14 billion years ago when the big bangoccurred. In the beginning, there was only
silence and darkness. In the immense of the silence, an explosion occurred, known as the big bang.

This pull was only possible because some of the groups of gaseous fog were less dense. This slight
difference caused a greater pull on the denser gases pulling them together and clumping them

began forming another element, helium. With helium came the stars. These stars where quite large
much more so than our yellow sun and shown a deep blue. The process that made these stars shine
creates oxygen and carbon. Once oxygen and carbon form, heavier elements form going deeper
and deeper into the suns core. The heavier the element the closer to the center of the star it is until
iron forms. When iron forms the star stopes creating new elements, because Iron will not fuse with
anything. Once iron forms, the star becomes too heavy and too hot, to stay stable, so it begins to
collapse and explodes into a supernova. Once the supernova occurs iron atoms fly out into space
creating heavier elements gold, platinum, and lead. All of these elements create the world around

Risk of Doing Business in China
Risks in Doing Business in China E Y China Key Points For multinational companies, China s
market has started to come of age. Despite the opportunities along with China s WTO entry and
opening up, doing business in China remains very challenging at the operational level for MNCs.
Regulatory Risks Managing the regulatory environment remains a real issue for foreign firms
operating in China. They have to learn how to deal with red tape, guanxi (relationship) and make
breakthrough in the thicket of regulations and restrictions. Entry Modes Different entry modes
bring different risks and returns. Foreign enterprises should weigh and balance those risk factors.

These issues affect all companies, but present the most serious challenge to small foreign firms
that are new to China and lack international and country specific experience. Larger firms are
coming up with strategies to address these issues, if not resolve them. Regulatory Risks Overview
During the last few years much of the economy has been deregulated, a process that was well
under way before December 2001, the date of China s accession to the WTO. During the 1990s
almost all of the former industrial ministries and state commissions were abolished, cutting the
number of institutions and officials at the centre looking to be involved in business affairs. Some
old school planning apparatchiks have no doubt survived but there are fewer options for them to
slake their thirst for control. Many state owned enterprises have been sold off and a large
proportion of those that remain have lost market share to private domestic firms and foreign
invested enterprises (FIEs). China s thicket of regulations has been cut back and the rules that
remain have gradually become more institutionalized. The picture that characterized much of the
1980s and 1990s everyone from multinational managers to Chinese officials groping their way
forward, often making things up as they went along is no longer representative of the business
environment. Foreign firms in different sectors have greater understanding of the

Knowing this can help you save in cost. A business normally will look for a better file access
speed. G J Consultation might need a fast performance storage since they are providing
consultant services to customers which the date stored might be use frequently and need to
response to customers very quickly. Transfer speed over the network is the primary indicator of
a NAS because it uses file level protocol when uploading or downloading large files. NAS can
provide performance benefits. For example, NAS can take over the work of serving the email
data, freeing resources on the email server for email specific processes. Scalability Scalability is
important in terms of both computing power and storage capacity. The performance and
capacity should scale independently of one another. Scalability is important because the ability
of the storage would need to be expanded in future in order to cope with increased use. NAS is a
suitable storage which suggested for G J Consultation Sdn Bhd because it is easy to set up and
easy to use, even a non IT based staff can manage the NAS. Reliability Reliability of storage also
is one of the factors which is very important and need to be concerned. Reliability is important
because the loss of data and downtime can lead to loss in revenue and threaten the survival of the
business. In today s world, most of the people demand a highly reliability, shared storage device
that is accessible to multiple network

Jains Do Not Harm All Living Things
Jains believe that is no true god in the world. They believe if a perfect god created the world, why
would he have created an imperfect world? That isn t to say that the universe isn t consistently
changing. Jains believe that everything is eternal, but throughout time everything constantly
changes. They believe that two basic substances are mixed together that create the world: the jiva
and ajiva. Jiva is the soul and spirit, it senses and feels everything. Then there is the ajiva which
encompasses the other materials in the universethat doesn t have feeling or consciousness. It is the
belief of Jains that you should not harm anything or anyone because everything has a soul and can
feel. Jains do not eat meat or harm anything living.
Furthermore, their reason for not harming anything is that Jains believe that your soul will be

  • 2. The Urban Legend of Bloody Mary Essay Bloody Mary Version 3 The story of Bloody Mary is told in different versions all around the world has been included in nine different movies (three in the past two years) (The Internet Movie Database). This particular version of the popular urban legend of Bloody Mary originates locally from North Potomac, Maryland. The storyteller is a female 19 year old Caucasian sophomore student, currently studying psychology at the University. The story was collected in the spring on the University campus. After dinner, in a one on one environment, she began the story of an urban legend from her childhood. I remember this from back in second grade. It scared me so much. It was Friday the 13th. Back in elementary school, we always ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The stories that speak of Bloody Mary s origins, surprisingly, tend to be more similar on their history of the ghost than the accounts of ghost summoning ritual. One full version of the urban legend posted on urbanlegendsonline.com begins with a little girl named Mary who became ill and fell into a deep coma (Urban Legends Superstitions). The doctor and family members, believing she was dead, buried her alive in a family plot next to their house. The first night, Mary s mother heard a scream from Mary s grave, but no one else believed her. Days later, the family finally dug up young Mary s grave to find Mary dead along with scratches on the top of the coffin. Mary s fingernails were also covered in blood. This version of the tale is similar to the version given by the storyteller at the beginning of this article. Both accounts speak of a girl named Mary who was buried alive. The version offered by the storyteller tells of a hateful motive that led to the return of the vengeful spirit. The version given by urbanlegendsonline.com explains that what had happened was an accident due to negligence. The second half the urban legend, or in most cases, the entire urban legend itself, tends to be much more varied in explaining how to summon the ghost. The simple organization of these variations leads to easily comparable details of the ghost story. Certain instructions require the date to be Friday the 13th, while others do not. ... • 9. Marcel Duchamp ( 1887-1968 ) Marcel Duchamp (1887 1968) was a French artist, known for his contributions to the Dada movement and for his influence on other artists that followed him. He was born in Blainville sur Crevon, a small town in northern France where his father served as a notary. His mother was artistically inclined and thus Duchamp became interested in sketching and painting when he was a teenager. At the age of seventeen, he moved to Paris to study art at the AcadГ©mie Julian. As a young artist, he was influenced by Cubismand Futurism, the two new art movements that were developing at the time. During the period of World War I (1914 1918), Duchamp became associated with a group of Parisian artists known as the Dadaists. Dada was an art movement that was characterized by a spirit of anarchic nihilism. The Dadaists were reacting to the madness of the European culture that had found itself engaged in a bloody, devastating war. In the words of Tomkins, dada s organized insanity was a direct response to the nightmare of unending, meaningless slaughter in the trenches. Another writer, Sarane Alexandrian, describes Dada as a detonation of anger which showed itself in insults and buffoonery. The Dadaists also attacked the traditional values of art. As claimed by Hans Richter in his book on the Dada movement, these attacks were meant to mock the pretensions of European culture and the traditional obsession of artists, art critics and art lovers with all that is holy. Dada is often referred to as anti art and the Dada movement is often called an anti movement. As noted by Alexandrian, the Dadaists seemed to be interested in rejecting everything that existed in art and culture at the time. • 10. What Is The Difference Between Monet s Garden And Picasso... Differences between Two Famous Artists Artwork Artwork could be defined as a universal language that can carry ideas and emotions of an artist toward audiences via a particular narrative. Presently, there are many memorable art pieces from various artists. Claude Monet and Pablo Picasso have become prominent from their unique styles of artwork, which conveys a profound feeling through basic elements of art, such as the use of color and a narrative. Although two of them are highly notable for art, there are four differences between Monet s garden and Picasso s garden, which are artist s background information, technique, inspiration and meaning. Meaning is an explanation that uses to describe an emotion in the scene, which leads the audience to a better interpretation of a narrative in the painting. Monet uses a quick painted style to portray reality, which, in this case, is a collective joy of intimate friends in a garden (Walton, 2007). In the foreground, there is a graceful woman sitting under the tree and smiling at the sounds of her two friends flirting behind her. A man and a woman seem to share a flirtatious conversation as the woman appears a pink flush on her cheeks while answering the man s question, covering her face with a bouquet of flowers in her hands, and sneakily looking at the man s face. Another woman, young and innocent, staying in the background, is delightfully admiring the flower bushes around her with a beaming smile appeared on her lips. She seems to be one of the nature lovers who can solely spend most of her time outdoor amid the flower garden. The feelings of these three people are all freshened up by the delightful talk and the support of natural surrounding around them. On the contrary, Picasso prefers a sharp painting style represented in geometric shapes, such as triangle, rectangle or oval, which may lead audiences to have a profound feeling ( Pablo Picasso, 2009). Considering the painting named Seated woman in a garden , Picasso captures a moment of a woman sitting alone in a spacious garden. Perhaps the woman is waiting for her lover at the appointment; however, as she waits longer she does not seem to see her love, therefore appearing gloomy features. In addition, the nature around her seems to reciprocate her grief by appearing leaves in a dull tone of green color instead of the freshly light green as revealed in the Monet s garden. The years from 1939 to 1945 will be the focus of this investigation, to allow for an analysis of women s employment before and during the war. The first source which will be evaluated in depth is a letter written by Mary Anderson in October of 1940. Women s employment increased in America from under one percent in 1939 to over Forty six percent in 1943, and ninety percent of single women between the ages 18 59 were engaged in some form of factory work over the course of the war (Striking Women). Women were urged to take masculine positions in the workplace, in order to free up able bodied men for the line of duty. While women took many jobs over the course of the war the factory jobs were in the most demand. Factory workers were needed in order to build essential supplies for the war effort, such as bombs, heavy machinery, and auxiliary. The push for women showed a changing view of how capable women were sought after by companies. In 1943, more than 310,000 women worked in the U.S. aircraft industry, making up 65 percent of the industry s total workforce compared to just 1 percent in the pre war years (Striking Women). Women workers were recruited by the munitions industry, which was shown through the U.S. government s Rosie the Riveter propaganda campaign. Rosie the Riveter became one of the most successful recruitment tools in American history (Striking Wome ). Prior to World War II, propaganda targeting women had only been asking them to buy war bonds, plant victory gardens, and ration foods (Women, Gender, and World War). Rosie the Riveter was the first time a government had released a propaganda campaign where women had a job and were independent. This showed a newfound respect for women and their skills. The changes in societal interpretation of women allowed them to become more than homemakers, and put more focus on what women could do rather than what they looked like. • 16. Wind, Earthquake And Its Effect On The Earthquake Essay Unlike wind, earthquake is a different phenomenon which generates a ground motion. The intensity or acceleration of the earthquake depends upon the magnitude and location of its epicenter. The seismic waves caused by the earthquake cause inertial forces in the building. The inertial forces are created when an outside force tries to move a body in rest which happens in this case as seismic waves tries the move the building in rest. We all know that when a building is subjected to inertial forces it should obey the newton s second law of motion. F=M.a (3) Where F is inertial force and M denotes mass of building and a is the acceleration with which the building is moved due to seismic activity. Duration, velocity and displacement: From the newton s second law, it is evident that acceleration is a key factor in determining the forces on a building. But there is one more criteria that we have to look into is the duration of the earthquake. Earthquake that has moderate acceleration, sustained over time, can cause much more damage to buildings than a single much larger peak. It weakens the building structure and reduces its durability. The strong motion duration is often termed as bracketed duration (Arnold 2013). This is the shaking duration above a certain threshold acceleration value, which is 0.05g, and is defined as the time between the first and last peaks of motion that exceeds this threshold value (Arnold 2013). • 35. A Project Manager For Monitor And Control The Execution Of... Once a project is begun, it is important for a project manager to monitor and control the execution of the endeavor. A project manager must observe and examine how the work is progressing, the costs, application of the resources required, and if the schedule is being sustained with the overall project plan. This is especially important when a project manageruses the earned value management (EVM) system to track and monitor an undertaking. EVM and variance management must have accurate material and labor costs accounted in order to be an effective tool. Labor and Material Costs Resources are essential for completion for any project, but must be managed differently because of the constraints and accounting each specifically demands. Labor, materials, and equipment fall under the definition of resources and how they are managed within a project will greatly impact the endeavor (Larson Gray, 2014). An important resource for a project is the human resource or labor and the skills that each individual brings to the project team. Ordinarily, direct labor is classified by skills and the costs related to provide those skills to complete the work. Direct labor costs are normally calculated by multiplying the hours required to complete the task by the salary scale designated for the task. Indirect labor costs encompass any support staff that is not directly involved within the project, like human resource, administrative, and other ancillary staff (Webb, 2016). Even though these ... • 36. Productions and Operations Management Productions and Operations Management I The three categories of statistical quality control The three categories of SQC include the traditional statistical tools, acceptance sampling, and statistical process control (SPC). Traditional statistical tools are descriptive statistics like the mean and range, used to describe qualitative characteristics. Acceptance sampling is a process of taking a random sample or portion of a batch and deciding whether to accept or reject the whole batch. SPC is a process that uses samples to determine whether a process is functioning normally or not (Ryan, 2011). Traditional statistical tools describe the quality characteristics although they do not elucidate the extent of the quality (whether good or bad). Acceptance sampling determines whether an entire batch produced should be accepted or rejected after the goods have been produced. However, SPC tracks the process to ensure it is functioning properly for a given period. These tools can be used together effectively. Traditional statistical tools are used as inputs into SPC, which is updated frequently enough to ensure that quality problems are identified in good time. Finally, after a batch has been produced, acceptance sampling is used to determine whether the batch is of good quality or not. The statistical process control Statistical process control is a technique of controlling, monitoring, and improving processes via statistical analysis. The philosophy behind this tool holds that ... Henry has a valid claim to the French throne, but France already has a successor, the Dauphin. With some convincing and financing from the clergy, Henry decides to fight for his place as the French heir. In the Battle of Agincourt, Henry demonstrates strong leadership at a young age. As previously explained in Act I, Henry s father died when he was young, and Henry V gained a new demeanor and changed his wild ways into proper ethics for royalty. Henry s personality change leads to his noble leadership, and he seems to lead by example and in words even as a young king. King Henry s conduct causes him to be a just ruler. Henry shows a glimpse of his humility when he addresses the soldiers before the siege of Harfleur to inspire them for battle. Henry says that they all must go Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once / more (3.1.1 2). For centuries their simplistic tales of overcoming evil and their demeanor have dominated Western notions of masculinity: Control over emotion, physical strength, arrogance, innate morality, and an alpha male mentality. It might be ideal for older cultures and the Anglo Saxon warriors that needed a model of morality they need to idolize, but in our times we need more. The America we live in is more global, more diverse, more interconnected that any previous civilization. Our definition of masculinity has changed as we progressed and learned more about ourselves as humans. We are postmodern society, where good and evilare subjective, and we crave for empathy and connection. Berserk s main character Guts, is such heroof our time. On the surface the two heroes share many similarities, they are both buff hyper masculine males, they both wield enormous swords to fight fantastical monsters. Yet there are fundamental differences between the two. These became apparent after reading and analyzing both Beowulf and Berserk. Epic heroes are the epitome of good. They are good. They are the personified version of a culture s beliefs on morality and virtue. The book was enormously popular, selling nine million copies, especially after the award winning movie released in 1975. Even in the face of all this success, many school districts have voted to ban this book from their curricula. The reasons for removal have been numerous, but can be summed up by one Ohio school, which said that the book glorifies criminal activity, has a tendency to corrupt juveniles, and contains descriptions of bestiality, bizarre violence, and torture, dismemberment, death, and human elimination (Baldassarro). Although the book contains scenes of brutality and abuse to patients, as well as racist, profane, and vulgar language, which could be disturbing to some, One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest should be kept in high school curriculum because it questions society s definition of insanity and shows the importance of expressing one s sexuality in a healthy and responsible way. • 45. Persuasive Speech On Sea Turtles Imagine a world of chaos. We see things like that all the time in movies, where zombies roam the earth and there are just those few main survivors left. The world is in ruins. If ocean life was to die out, there would be a collapse of civilization as a whole. Just like we see on TV, the world would become a place where no order exists. This would lead to human extinction. The ocean dies, we die along with it, and if sea turtles die, so does the ocean. In simple words, one could say that human life depends on sea turtles. In this speech I will be covering three topics. First, how a sea turtles diet benefits marine life and humans, second, how sea turtles provide homes and food for other species, and last, how sea turtles protect beaches from washing away. Sea turtles have been a big help in maintaining the health of the world s ocean for more than 100 million years. They help by keeping up coral reefs all the way to transporting nutrients to beaches. Major changes have occurred in oceans everywhere due to the decline of the sea turtle population. Oceans are unhealthy because of this. It is time for us to protect the sea turtles and rebuild their population to ensure healthy oceans in the future. According to oceana.org, there are seven species of sea turtles that roam the world, six of which inhabit U.S. waters, and have been listed as either endangered, or threatened. Up until now, all six of these species are not at a healthy level despite protection measures from the Endangered Species Act (ESA). Some populations even continue to decline. Even at a diminished population, sea turtles play an important role in ecosystems. They are also extremely important to humans because they keep oceans healthy, and we use the ocean as a food source. They keep up the health of the ocean in many different ways, all of which, are very important. Sea turtles are one of the few animals that eat sea grass. Just like normal lawn grass, sea grass needs to be constantly cut short to help it grow across the sea floor rather than just getting really long blades. Without constant grazing, sea grass beds obstruct currents and provide a suitable habitat for the growth of slime molds. Sea grass beds provide breeding grounds for many ... A commentary of the poem The Broken Tower by Hart Crane A Broken Tower, by Hart Crane, is a metaphor rich poem that is very ambiguous but seems to describe the difficulties of the creative process and the way in which the artist is bound and compelled by it. Crane uses many religious metaphors and references, directly mentioning God and also bells, which are associated with churches. It is possible to interpret the poem in a religious sense, but it could be argued that religion and art are similar metaphors; that, for the poet, his writings are both a method of spiritual expression and a search for truth. The title, A Broken Tower, refers to a continuing metaphor in the poem and suggests the deconstruction of established paradigms which is necessary for artistic progress. Throughout the poem,... Supporting the strong visual imagery is the frequent mention of sound: the choir, voices, reveilles and echoes. Imperfection is once again alluded to with the entry of the poet into the broken world in order to trace the visionary company of love, its voice. This seems to directly refer to his creative process in seeking truth and beauty in his writing. It is also the most positive concept expressed in the poem thus far a wholly positive one, rather than the difficult process of destroying the obsolete mentioned before. However, unlike the mighty tower, this voice is an instant in the wind and not for long in other words, transitory. It is also mysterious and beyond the poets control, like the bells in the tower, as the poet admits he know[s] not whither [it is] hurled. Crane makes a more specific reference to his art; his word, as opposed to the Word of that tribunal monarch of the air. The latter belongs to God, who is depicted as powerful and judgemental: the deity of the Broken Tower. This could be seen as a personification of the judgemental ostracism that Crane faced as a homosexual.
