Compare And Contrast Heroidotus And Herodotus
Are those who do not learn from history truly doomed to repeat it? Many an old adage, as well as
prevalent historical figures such as Winston Churchill, definitely say so. After all, as the inevitable
progression of time and technology pushes forward, the needs and wants of mankind remain the same.
For the most part, the human mind is a constant variable, and there are invaluable lessons to be
learned from our predecessors ancients and pioneers alike. The fortunate news is, there exists, and will
continue to be (at least for the near future) a vast collection of historical resources. A new question is
posed however; what defines the potency of a source? In many ways, two ancient historians named
Herodotus and Thucydides helped define and set the ground work for what historical writing consists
of. Herodotus, being the older of the two, is flatteringly renowned as the father of history, as he
provided the world with its first account of a true historical narrative The Histories. Both men lived
roughly from the early portion of the 4th Century b.c up until the latter end of the century, and the
purposes of their works agreed in principal, but in principal only. For instance, Thucydides authored
History of the Peloponnesian War, in which he chronicles the friction between Sparta and Athens. On
the other hand, The Histories documents the Greco Persian wars in its own unique way, of course.
Certainly, the congruency between these two texts ends with the fact that they

Home Life Analysis
Captain Caleb Holt (Kirk Cameron) is a firefighter in Albany, Georgia and firmly keeps the most
important rule of all firemen, Never leave your partner behind . But Caleb s home life is a completely
different story; his seven year marriage to his wife Catherine (Erin Bethea) is almost at the point of
explosive destruction. Neither one understands the pressures the other faces, and after a heated
argument in which Caleb screams in Catherine s face, she declares she wants out of the marriage, and
takes off her wedding ring.
While Caleb claims to his friends and co workers that Catherine is over sensitive and disrespectful,
Catherine (at the same time) claims to her peers that Caleb is insensitive to her needs and doesn t

Consequences Of Texting And Driving
Wouldn t you agree that texting and driving is a big issue nowadays? Many drivers are so caught up in
their phones that they risk their lives and the lives of others just so that they could answer a simple
text message. Now that this problem is becoming so big, it should have severe consequences. People
who text and drive should get license suspension for six months and get $500 for the first violation
and $1000 for the second violation. People who text and drive can hit or even kill pedestrians because
of being distracted by their phones and not paying attention to the road. In the course of five years, the
national number of pedestrians who were killed or hit by distracted drivers increased from 344 to 500
people. If you think about it, many of those people who died could have been young children or
elderly people who didn t have a fault, but because of someone being so inconsiderate using their
phone, they killed these people. In 2015, 5,376 pedestrians were killed because of drivers who were
too busy texting. All those pedestrians who were killed did not think that because of walking
somewhere they would be killed by someone so distracted who didn t have the capacity to make sure
that the road was clear for them to keep driving. If this problem had further consequences, then many
of the people who died wouldn t be dead right now. Most of the drivers who end up killing someone or
getting killed by someone on their phone are usually teens. Eleven teens die every day as

Who Is Tom Jad A Good Character In The Grapes Of Wrath
(Your favorite character in the film Grapes of Wrath and why.)
In every movie or film or book, the reader unconsciously develops strong feeling for one of the
individual character. The reasons they may like them may be personal, or it may just be because they
heard that other person like him or her first. In the film Grapes of Wrath, there are many respectable
character in the plot line. While all of the characters may stand out to individual people, there is one
character everyone watching the film would want to be. It is clear that the main character in the film is
the best. Tom Joad is the best character in the film for many reasons such as: he is a loving family

In the beginning of the film, the first thing that he does when he gets out of jail, is he goes to find his
family. And after he realizes they have left his home, he goes out to find them. While some people
would have gone and never come back to start a new life somewhere else. People can also see that he
is a loving and caring person by the way his family reacts when they see him for the first time since he
got out of jail. His little siblings are overjoyed and everyone crowds him. He is obviously a well liked
person to be around in his family, and any watcher could see that he is a loyal companion.
Another reason Tom Joad is the best character in Grapes of Wrath is because he is one of the hardest
workers in the film. When he gets out of jail, he works his hardest to find his family, even though he
has no idea where they are. He travels everywhere just to find them. Also when they get to Cali, he
finds them work, and he would have done anything to keep his family going by trying to work harder.

Trowel Melt
If you want to fix the cracks in your asphalt driver just like the professionals do, you ll need to
purchase a few tools and set aside a day to fix your driveway. It will take some time and a small
investment in the right tools, but you will save on labor costs and you ll have the tools you need on
hand the next time your driveway needs fixed.
The Supplies Equipment
In order to patch your asphalt driveway like a professional, you ll need to purchase melt in filler. Melt
in asphalt filler will not shrink after it is applied and will not cause additional cracks. This is a
construction grade product. Stay away from squeeze bottles and caulk style fillers; most of these types
of products are easy to apply, but shrink over time and cause the cracks you just fixed to appear again
quickly.
You are also going to need a trowel patch for this project as well as ... Show more content on

If it doesn t melt, turn up the torch just a little bit, and continue with the sweeping motion until it starts
to melt. The filler will go from looking like a white ish substance to the black color you associate with
asphalt. It may put off a little heat, but should not smoke excessively or smell like it is burning. If it
does, you need to turn down your torch or hold it a couple of inches further back.
Cover It With A Trowel Patch
Finally, after the crack has cooled off for at least half an hour, you can apply the trowel patch to the
crack. You ll want to lay down a small amount of towel patch material and use the trowel to even and
smooth it out. This will ensure that the crack is completely filled and even.
The length of time this project will take depends on how many cracks you have in your driveway. If
you only have one crack, you should be able to complete this entire process in a couple of hours. If
you have multiple long cracks, you may need to dedicate an entire day to fixing your

The State Of Public Schools Essay
In Kansas, the dispute between the branches for power began when the judiciary noticed the disparity
in the funding of Kansas school education. The Kansas judiciary came to the conclusion that the
disparity in funding was a violation of Kansas constitution. In an effort to fix this, the Kansas judiciary
ordered the legislative to make a solution. However, rather than addressing the school funding issue,
the Kansas legislative branch passed a law that removed the Supreme Courts right to appoint local
chief judges and the ability to set district court budgets. Then, the Kansas Governor Sam Brownback,
who is in the executive branch, signed a law that would remove the funding of the judicial branch if
the Kansas Supreme Court ruled against him in the court case concerning the funding of public
schools. The actions of both the legislative and executive branch of Kansas government disregard the
system of checks and balances because the judicial branch is being punished for doing their job.
Therefore, judicial review is vital for a judge in maintaining a consistent balance of power in the
government.
In 1789, the Constitution of the United States of America was created and serves as the law of the
land. In the Constitution, there was an establishment of the different branches of government: the
legislative, executive, and the judiciary. In each branch, there are jurisdictional rights that is given and
serves as a guideline for the branches to adhere to. For the judicial

Reducing Number of Infiltration Cycles for La0.8Sr0.2FeO3 YSZ Cathodes
Xiaoyan Li
Abstract
In order to decrease the number of cycles of infiltration and maintain a comparable cathode
performance, the viability of using a conductive composite scaffold of La0.8Sr0.2FeO3 and yttria
stablized zirconia (YSZ) with one infiltration cycle was investigated. The infiltration material is nitrate
salt solution of La, Sr, Co and Fe to form La0.6Sr0.4Co0.2Fe0.8O3 perovskite phase. Cathodes
fabricated from scaffolds using different ratios of LSF YSZ were tested by impedance spectroscopy
with the results showing that the ohmic resistance decreases as the amount of LSF increases. In
addition, scaffolds calcined at 1350oC exhibited ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
1,2 In this case, YSZ is included in the cathode to provide ionic conductivity, as well as enhancing the
connection between the electrode and the YSZ electrolyte. YSZ in the electrode also helps match the
thermal expansion of the electrode to the electrolyte.1 4 The functions of LSM in the composite
cathode include providing electronic conductivity and catalytic activity, but with negligible
contributions to ionic conductivity.4,5
The conventional method for fabricating the electrode is to deposit and sinter a mixture of the
electrode composites onto a dense YSZ electrolyte.4 The sintering temperature must be a compromise,
high enough to ensure the good connection between YSZ in the electrode and the electrolyte, but low
enough to prevent solid state reactions between the electrode composites.2,5 Indeed, most conducting
perovkites are unable to be prepared due to the formation of insulating phases at high temperatures
required for YSZ sintering.4 Therefore, the infiltration method was initially developed to separate the
high calcination temperature required to densify the YSZ electrolyte from the lower calcinations
temperature needed for the other electrode components.1,4,5 Furthermore, the infiltration method
provides a nonrandom structure where the electronically conductive components are deposited into the
previously formed porous YSZ scaffold.1 4 Infiltration also forms superior

Middle Passage By Charles Johnson
The book Middle Passage by Charles Johnson tells a story about the triangular slave trade which took
place early in America s history. This book was written with such close attention to detail that it gave
the reader a sense of what life was like on board a slave boat. Johnson s writing style included many
different techniques including the use of varying structure, imagery and language. All of these devices
helped create a very successful story about slavery.
This book tells the story about Rutherford Calhoun. He is a newly freed slave and finds himself in
New Orleans. This is where he meets Isadora, a sweet and loving school teacher. She soon falls in love
with him and wants to help him. She talks about marrying him and it scares him. He tells her that he
will never get married. Rutherford meets Squib at a bar and learns that he is a cook on board a slave
boat. He gets on board and they allow him to stay. The rest of the book tells the story of what it was
like on board. The boat carries 40 Allmuseri tribes people from Africa who are treated poorly. Their
culture is taken from them along with everything else. The slaves plan a revolt against the captain, and
they gain control of the boat. Bad weather, destroyed the boat and everyone is thrown into the ocean.
Rutherford and a few others are rescued by another ship. He soon find out the Isadora is on board.
Because of his long journey at sea, he is a changed man. Isadora and Rutherford get back together, and

Engineering Camp Analysis
Throughout my time at EDGE camp I learned an extreme abundance of information. Not only was it
about engineering but I also learned about teamwork, leadership skills, and myself. The two weeks
that I stayed at Union was a time I won t forget and I am so glad I decided to come.
In coming here I expected to just learn about engineering and create a toy for a kid in need, but it
ended up being so much more than that. I can now differentiate the types of engineering and which
ones I like the best. This camp also helped me realize how I like the physical building and sketching
process of engineering rather than the computer components. I also didn t expect most of the trips and
tours that we went on to be intriguing, but I found myself enjoying almost all of them. ... Show more

am completely aware of that.
Since this is my second college camp I have visited, I already know a lot about college life. Going to

Fructose, Glucose And Carbohydrates
1. Describe the structure of a monosaccharide and name the three monosaccharides important in
nutrition. Name the three disaccharides commonly found in foods and their component
monosaccharides. In what foods are these sugars found?
There are three types of monosaccharides; Glucose, Fructose, and Galactose. Monosaccharides are a
type of sugar and often called simple carbohydrates. These different sugars all have the same
structures consisting of 6 carbon atoms, 12 hydrogens, and 6 oxygen atoms. They all follow the rules
of chemistry with each carbon atom having 4 bonds, oxygen having 2, and hydrogen 1 bond. The
difference between each of these is the order of arrangement of the atoms and therefore each provide a
different amount of sweetness. Glucose is also known as blood sugar and is very important to the body
s activities as it is an essential energy source. Fructose, having the same chemical formula of glucose,
is considered the sweetest of the sugars. Galactose is a naturally occurring sugar in foods as a single
sugar. The order difference of these bonds is shown in the following reference pictures found in
Understanding Nutrition. (Whitney Rolfes, 2014, p101) There are three types of disaccharides as well;
Maltose, Sucrose, and Lactose. These sugars are compounds of the monosaccharide groups. Maltose
consists of 2 glucose atoms; this is created when starches break down. Sucrose consists of one glucose
and one fructose atom and is the sweetest of the

The Road To Independence By Joe Hagmann Analysis
From the perspective of a parent, whose primary concern is the wellbeing of their child, some of the
author s points seem valid. However, I find the author, Joe Hagmann, has his tin foil hat on, and the
thought that the entertainment industry is conducting an elaborate scheme to brainwash children, is a
tad further than ridiculous.
To eliminate independence from the equation doesn t seem like a sound idea in my opinion. Yes, for
the most part parents are an excellent force of guidance that can steer a child in the correct direction,
but limited exposure to the media and the un Godly world we live in won t be as useful when they re
old enough to leave the nest. I don t believe that a parent s word will be enough to prepare oneself for
reality. For instance, you can describe to someone how to make a movie with an infinite amount of
detail, but it s trumped by the much simpler option of showing them a movie and learning by example.
Would a 9 year old, like Hagmann s be too young for complete autonomy and control in their life. Yes.
I, however, believe that the road to independence should be gradual, and that parents should have full
authority, and then throw them into the deep end when they re still highly dependent on them.
I view a bad TV show, like the one described by the author, as an excellent opportunity to draw a line
in the sand between right and wrong. Besides, plenty of TV shows exemplify good morals and virtues,
and often when the characters make an horrendous

Symbols In The Prodigal Son
The change over the time is described through various symbols. The sounds, smells, silences, and
even visual experiences contribute to this change. There is a sense of terror everywhere around. Sound
and silence contrast with each other but both appear as terrorizing in the text. No one speaks to Malte
but he can listen to their silences. He can sense the terror inside them. Past and present are woven so
well one loses track of time like Malte s grandfather. Everything around Malte that he can sense or see
contributes to the situation that Malte faces when he feels threatened.
The text is divided into two parts by a space between the sections 38 and 39. There is no other specific
sign of the division except that space. The first part largely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

However, it has been recreated in a new way. Rilke has transformed the whole story into something
else. The prodigal son is not the wasteful man as depicted in the Bible. He is the one whom everyone
loves, and it makes him feel vulnerable. He does not leave the house because he is wasteful but
because he cannot bear their love. Being loved is being overpowered and possessed. It suffocates the
one who is loved. He cannot be himself or be anything else than what the lover imagines him to be.
On the other hand, if he is the lover, there are immense possibilities for him. He can be anything he
wills because he is the one to control his life and his choices. When the prodigal son comes to
understand this, he is able to transcend himself. He is able to understand the love of his family, and
feels no more threatened by it. He is able to accept himself as he becomes a changed self. He does not
remain the beloved but turns into the lover. However, he wants to be loved but in a way in which he
would not feel suffocated as before. There is only One who can love him like that because He lets man
be and find himself. And only then, He showers His love upon him. The prodigal son is yet to know
himself completely. He is on the way to find meanings. He is yet becoming. Therefore, there is still
time for him to accomplish what he needs to before He would love

Analysis Of The Book His Work Memorabilia
Introduction:
In the first book of his work Memorabilia, Xenophon begins by implicitly claiming that he will
provide an evaluative account of the persuasiveness of the charges laid against Socrates. Hence, to the
extent that the Memorabilia claims to offer a defensive approach towards Socrates, this work bears a
line of continuity with Xenophon s Apology of Socrates to the Jury. The Memorabilia, however, offers
a break with the Apology in terms of the method it employs in delivering the Socratic exoneration; it
is not a work that provides this exoneration by providing its readers with an evaluation of the Socratic
defense, against the charges of impiety and corruption of the youth. It is a work, rather, that delivers
the Socratic exoneration by placing the rationale that has informed the construction of these very
charges, under Xenophon s dialectical and rhetorical scrutiny.
This paper will show how Xenophon s refutation of the corruption charges rests on two simultaneous
and premises, as made evident by the inclusion of the exchange between Alcibiades and Pericles.
Initially, this refutation premises itself on dissociating Socrates from Alcibiades. Secondarily,
however, Xenophon s refutation premises itself on evaluating the ambiguities that exist in the
antithetical relationship, between on the one hand the arguments made by an accuser that all too
readily signifies Socratic pedagogical praxis with having an absolute corrosive influence; and, on the
other hand, the

Social Class And India s Social System
Social class is a division of a society based on ones social and economic status. There are those of
higher class, middle class, and lower class. However, the class a person is a part of can affect their life
in many ways they may, or may not notice. In different places, there are many varieties of
qualifications for which class one may be considered. Why do many places have contrasting types of
social classification? The evaluation of America s and India s social ranking systems gives more
insight into these questions.
Amazingly, the Caste System in India has been around for thousands of years. The caste system places
you in a social class with specific duties you must perform. Secondly, the system places you in the
social class of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Second off is karma, karma is the belief that a person experiences the effects of his/her actions. This is
closely like the saying What goes around, comes around. which is how karma works. If one does not
want to upset karmic balance, they will have to live a moral life, and have to fulfill their dharma.
The third term one must know, is samsara, which is know to some as reincarnation. Reincarnation, or
samsara, plays a big role in how the caste system has people placed in each rank, as explained earlier.
Samsara explains the cycle of life, death, and rebirth, in which karma can/will take effect. Each time
someone is reborn with a new life, they have an opportunity to achieve balance. Once balanced is
achieved, through good thoughts, and actions, they are free from the life cycle.
The fourth term, and stage in the cycle, is moksha. Moksha is a state of liberation from the cycle of
rebirth urged by the law of karma. To reach moksha, one must live a life of devotion with strong moral
principles, and no to little interest in material things. This is believed to take a great number of rebirths
to achieve. To achieve moksha, is to be reunited with God, and to be free from rebirth. All these terms,
dharma, karma, samsara, and moksha, are important to know to have greater insight into the Hindu
religion, which the caste system has basis in.
In Hinduism, another vital concept to understand

Clappers were the earliest forms of idiophones. The Sumerians used these clappers in 3000 BC. Later
on, Phoenicia derived castanets from the
Sumerian clappers. The Egyptian temples of 1100 BC used cymbals in acts of worshiping their gods (
Percussion 655). There have been bronze bells found in India dated back to 1000 BC. These are one of
the earliest forms of percussion discovered in physical form from India. Those who inhabited
India also used musical cups, which were forerunners of the popular musical glasses. These musical
cups were popular in India circa 800 AD. Western
Asia is responsible for the introduction of the gong in China near the sixth century AD ( Percussion
656). Romans and Greeks used the increasing availability of brass for their instruments. A cymbal was
one instrument used frequently by both the Greeks and Romans. The Greco Romans had an increased

Argumentative Essay On Mexican Migrant Workers
The phenomenal growth farming, minding, railroad construction, and commercial fishing all have a
story of transnational families and shattered dreams. With the coming of the Mexican Revolution in
1910, many mexicans fled north to the United States in order to escape the bloodshed in search of new
lives. Sadly their dream for a better life did not come true. Migrant workers work for low wages in
extreme conditions such as extreme heat, discomfort, and danger, as well as struggling to have a stable
life for their families. The disastrous great depression left many people unemployed. As a result, a
large number of caucasian people took over many migrant workers jobs in California. This left many
Mexicans and Filipinos desperate and willing to do anything for money. Farm workers were often
unpaid and were denied the right to unionize, a right that all other American workers enjoyed. Migrant
workers are from different ethnicities such as Mexicans, Mexican Americans, Europeans, but most of
the population is made up of Mexican migrant workers. Migrant workers lived a very harsh work
environment as well as a harsh society interactions. Mexican farm workers were offered a legally
binding work contract, but the majority suffered gross abuses of their labor rights and racial
discrimination. Migrant workers have always played a vital role in the US economy, so they should
not be treated as illegal or undeserving individuals. People have always harassed migrant workers and

Water Fashion Essay
Water Fashion In this day and age, the metaphorical pastor of American culture no longer preaches
patience. This is due, in part, to our rapid economic development, boosting the U.S. into the fifth stage
of Rostow s model for economic development; the Age of Mass Consumption (this model entails that
a country begins in poverty, introduces varying levels of industry, becomes economically self
sufficient, and, in the final stage, outsources all industry to developing countries). The Age of Mass
Consumption is just as deadly as it sounds, incurring insatiable demand for cheap labor, and therefore
a wasteful popular mindset. And so ensues consumerism, the love child of social media and cheap
manufacturing. Consumerism bears it s own dangerous children, including but not limited to
genetically modified organisms, pesticides, Costco, smartphones, wireless Internet, Netflix, and fast
fashion. The vast majority of Americans will recognize the aforementioned phenomenon of pop
culture, except perhaps fast fashion . For those unfamiliar with this phrase, used by fashion retailers,

Essay about The Importance of Memory
The Importance of Memory
I remember lying in my bed one night when I was six years old, staring at the ceiling in the darkness,
covers pulled up to my chin, thinking, Someday, I ll wake up and I ll be twenty years old. And
someday I ll wake up and be forty. What will I look like? What will I be doing? Will I be happy? Will
I remember what it was like to be six?

I m a hit in music class. I ve played violin for three years and Ms. Cogan asks me to play for the class.
She s kind of weird she likes to talk to a five inch bust of Beethoven that sits atop her upright piano.
She really likes the song Lean On Me.
Ms. Eyerman is really cool. She looks younger than all the other teachers. She has a funny way of

Information Is A Source Of Power In International Relations.
Information is a source of power in international relations. Technology is the capability by which
states store information. More so now than ever, countries heavily rely on information technology and
data storage in order to facilitate the basic functioning of a state. However, when any state places
enough importance on a resource of power, that resource becomes a target. An attack on informational
structures of a state are cyber attacks or the use of computational technologies in cyberspace for
malevolent and destructive purposes in order to impact, change, or modify diplomatic and military
interactions between entities Cyber attacks are increasingly becoming daily security threats in both
private and public sectors of a state. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If this is true, the way in which states see the use of power in the form of information or attacks on a
state s informational structure such as a cyber attack is crucial to the thinking and reaction of a state.
Moreover, the frequency by which states experience more cyber attacks than another will influence
the thinking of the state. If a state sees a threat, like cyber attacks, it is going to act accordingly.
Different frequencies of cyber attacks for different states will provoke different reactions to this threat
within the international system. Unlike traditional, physical attacks against a state which are tangible,
cyber attacks are a new medium of state warfare. Valeriano and Manses explain that countries are
considering cyber attacks as acts of war. Determining why a state experiences more cyber attacks than
another state is important because they can theoretically have the same repercussions as conventional
warfare but not necessarily be considered legally as an act of war.
Secondly, the way in which states perceive and interpret cyber attacks also effect the formation of
norms and international regimes they subscribe to when addressing the frequency of cyber attacks.
Again, Jervis contends that States with the same similar attributes behave the same way in situations .
So, states who experience more cyber attacks and the factors which contribute to the frequency, will
act similarly when addressing a

Swot Analysis of Intel Essay
The Intel Corporation
Introduction The main purpose of this case analysis is to find the issue and problem that Intel
Corporation faced and how they improve their performance and solve problems. First, I will
summarize the history of Intel Corporation. Second, to point out the challenge that Intel Corporation
has. And, third, I will use SWOT analysis to analyze the internal strengths and weakness and external
opportunities and threats of Intel Corporation. Eventually, I will give some recommendation.

Moreover, the customers will never feel satisfaction with buying the same or few types of
microprocessors. In order to satisfy various demands, Intel always spend huge amount and put a lot of
efforts into their R D department which makes Intel is able to introduce new products before its
competitors. Consequently, Intel can provide the choices to the demand from high end product with
high price and the low end demand with lower price.
3. Economic of Scale Intel has almost dominated the PC, laptop, and corporate computer s CPU which
allows Intel to build up highly barriers for the new entrants because of the large economies of scale.
Once Intel reaches the economies scale, they have a significant cost advantage over its competitors
and that this dominant ability will make its competitors are essentially price takers, with little power to
set up their own prices.

1. The Struggle of Expanding Smartphone Business Many experts claim that the smart phone will be

competitive advantage.

Legal Formalism And The Australian Legal System
Although legal formalism is a critical component to the Australian legal system, judicial creativity is
essential when the legislation fails to satisfy rule of law ideals. One key example of this is that
although abortion is an offence under the Queensland Criminal Code, it was ruled this year by the
Supreme Court that a 12 year old was able to proceed with terminating a pregnancy in a Queensland
public hospital. This case s outcome would be viewed as incorrect using reasoning from a strict legal
formalism approach, however it is justified as it demonstrates judicial creativity can be employed
when legal formality and procedural legality have not been met. The case being discussed is Central
Queensland Hospital and Health Service v Q [2016] QSC 89. The applicant for this case is the Central
Queensland Hospital and Health Service. The first respondent is Q, a 12 year old girl who is nine
weeks pregnant. Q was referred to the Central Queensland Hospital and Health Service after visiting a
general practitioner to terminate her pregnancy. The Central Queensland Hospital and Health Service,
the applicant for this case, then applied to the court in the parens patriae jurisdiction for authorisation
to terminate Q s pregnancy. The parens patriae jurisidiction refers to the power of the court to impose
a decision about a child on the basis it is for the child s best interest. The second respondent is Q s
Father and the third respondent is Q s Mother. The amicus curiae Ms

Adlerian Art Therapy Dissertation
Many people have heard the expression that art is a projection of the soul. Art gives us the way to not
only express ourselves, but as well as tell a story that our conscious mind cannot. From some, they
believe art is simply a hobby, or perhaps something that only hangs in museums; however, many
others, and I as well, believe that art has the powers to be something more than what the subject has
previously been defined as. While art is quite has been stereotyped in such way as decorations or [art]
hang[ing] in a museum, there are purposes for art, ones that are connected to self understanding
(Malchiodi 2). I believe that art has the capability of healing past traumas, and creating a bridge to
help some people move on with their lives. Art is an astounding idea of creation through the hands of
humans. I believe that each piece of art contains a part of every person s life. With that idea stated,
questions may arise as to what the idea of the human soul and art pertain to. Art can be a form of
treatment that can help delve into the minds and bring forth ideas and images that may have been
otherwise trapped in the person s mind who may have trouble verbalizing this memory. In many cases,
people don t quite understand what art therapy quite is. In Cathy Malchiodi s book, The Art Therapy
Sourcebook, she, rather humorously, explains how many people have asked her what art therapy
actually is. For example, one man asked her if art therapy was fixing bad art pieces, as

The project would result in a negative NPV since the EPC market is small. Tewitt claims this negative
NPV would be offset by Greystock s renovation plan. The committee rejected the plan based on
economic reasons. In my opinion, Tewitt s plan is a waste of money to spend in something that holds a
small part of the market rather, the money should be spent on something that have a high impact on
the market. Also, I have my suspicions about Tewitt s plan, mainly because of his comment to
Greystock and Morris after the committee rejection. In that comment in a hushed voice he told Morris
and Greystock that their anuual bonuses are begged to the size of this operation. This makes me think
that Tewitt s plan has a self interest tied to it, which presents an obvious agency problem. Therefore, I
strongly reject his proposal.
Concerns of the treasury staff: After scanning Greystock s analysis, Andrew Gowman, the treausury
staff pointed out a flaw in Grestock s analysis. The flaw in the analysis was not considering inflation
in calculating the discount rate, which would in return have in affect on the cash flows. Gowman
suggests a long term expected inflation of 3%. Adjusting the discount rate for inflation we get a a real
discount rate of 7% instead of 10%.

Issue: Whether respondent s Fourth and Fourteenth Amendment Rights were violated when he was
subjected to a search of his person, albeit under probable cause, without a warrant and prior to a

Argument: Reasoning:
1) Nothing is more clear than that the Fourth Amendment was meant to prevent wholesale intrusions
upon the personal security of our citizenry, whether these intrusions be termed arrests or investigatory
detentions. Davis v. Mississippi, 394 U.S. 721, 726 727.

3) The Court recognized in Chimel v. California, 395 U.S. 752, that the scope of a warrantless search

Chimel authorizes a search of incident to arrest for (1) weapons or (2) incriminating evidence. Further,

Intellectual property are the legal rights (control and ownership) of creations, such as ideas;

On the other hand, Patents could be expensive and there is no guarantee of a grant but most important
is that the secrecy that comes with patents does not necessarily equate to a better product or a good
business idea for the product. This is a decision the inventor must take into account.
There is also a need to have a design protection system. The fundamental idea being that design
protection encourages novel design and prevents rapid growth of identical designs because producers
are blocked from copying. Visual appeal is a key factor in influencing the decision of buyers. It makes
sense even more when the products serve the same function, the design of a product could potentially
sway consumers, and therefore aesthetics are important (WIPO, 2004).
The main idea being that everyone needs to come up with their own design. There are two kinds of
design rights:
a. Unregistered Design Right: is one where you do not have to apply to protect the product. It covers
only 3D items because it protects the shape and configuration of the item and the right lasts from 10
15 years. An interesting clause with the unregistered design, is that the license can be granted to other
parties in the last five years. It also leaves room for an agreement on costs can be reached with the
other party and the original producer of the item.
b. Registered Design: must be applied for at some cost. It focuses on

Music Industry And Its Influence On Modern Society

listeners, music is not simply an escape or form of entertainment; it is a source of inspiration and self

The music industry has had a powerful influence on what listeners consume. In this process,
traditional black music genres have crossed over to the mainstream. This has been problematic in that

This forged an identity of cultural togetherness as time progressed, but in reality, this was just a new

black expression has voiced itself in the past century. The innovations of jazz and gospel music paved
the way for soul, funk, disco, and rhythm blues and then expanded that pathway for rap and hip hop in
the later half of the century. Various innovations such as 12 bar blues and beat matching can be
attributed to African American culture. One genre of music that emerged from African American roots
was disco. Although disco expanded and became popularized in mainstream culture, disco began as an
expression of black and Latino power. Disco possesses elements of Afro Cuban salsa as well as
Jamaican dub, reggae, and ska. Disco served as a versatile cultural tool for not only ethnic minorities
but also gay rights activism, prior to its adoption by white audiences and artists. There was backlash
by white audiences and rock musicians towards black disco artist heard on the radio and this lead to

Examples Of View Of Paul In Tangerine
The main point of this story, Tangerine, by Edward Bloor, is how the people who are looked down
upon see from different points of view. An example of this is the main character, Paul, who is
considered blind by many and is often looked down upon in society, however, he often sees what
others do not and has excessive knowledge of the world around him. Even though he sees everything,
he does not say what he knows and others do not ask him, for they believe he has no knowledge of the
problems. After moving to Tangerine, he sees his brother doing horrible things and his parents none
the wiser. His friend suffers at the hands of his brother and is eventually killed, and afterwards, Paul
feels much guilt for the words unsaid. Since Paul is often looked down upon, he notices facts and

It is as if Paul lives in the sun and knowledge of the world, baring that burden while others in society
live in darkness with slight sliver of light from the moon believing they know the world to its full

another point of view that others have no clue about. This is important because without the knowledge
that Paul posses, he would be like his none the wiser parents, which would affect the story a great
deal. For example, on page 152, Paul tells his friend, Don t do this. Don t come in here with attitude.

Managers perform a crucial role in organizations because they interpret company policy, execute
corporate directives, fulfill all of the people management needs in their particular area of
responsibility, cascade senior management messages down the chain of command, and communicate
employee feedback up the chain. They are probably the most important ingredient in an organization s
success and they are frequently the most overlooked. But make no mistake about it managers are the
lens through which employees view the company, as well as the filter through which senior executives
view employees. (Trevino amp; Nelson, 2007) Managers are faced with many ethical ... Show more

the department, and manager. I had opportunity to witness how lack of discipline can unravel entire
department. At some point one of my coworkers, let s name her Kathy, started coming late. My office
is very flexible and we don t have strictly set hours, but it is understandable that business hours start
no later than nine in the morning. At first Kathy would come around 10 AM couple times a week.
Because there was no reaction from the manager slowly 10 AM become Kathy s regular starting time.
After everybody in the department got used to that Kathy starts her day at 10 AM, she pushed her
lateness to 11 AM. Before there was any reaction from the manager, Kathy was coming to work
around noon and stay in the office to eight in the evening. Shortly after that it was discovered that
Kathy is leaving office after five in the afternoon and comes back to punch the time card at eight. Our
manager was sustaining from officially disciplining Kathy because she discovered that Kathy had
financial and marital problems at home. Slowly Kathy s work was falling behind, and she could not
keep up with her work load. Eventually, Kathy was so stressed by not being able to keep up with her

Street Children
INTRODUCTION
One of the miseries brought by the modern civilization is the situation of the street children. In the old
times, and still now in some areas, children worked with their parents and reamed a lot of things from
them; later, children looked after aged parents, and therefore much value was put on children, and
there was strong bond of affection between parents and child. However, now it has changed. Parents
go to work, and children do not go to work with them. Children only cost much money for food and
education. Parents of a poor family are suffering from much financial stress. As the stress becomes
bigger, their love for their children decreases. Then, a home, which should be a place children receive
affection, becomes a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Eighteen outreach workers were recruited and assigned to fifteen cities. These workers did referrals,
conducted actual outreach on the streets, conducted interviews, made initial contact with families or
elatives, and prepared initials diagnosis and action plans. In Manila and Davao City, MSSD provided
temporary shelter, intake, counseling and referral services through drop in centers. Reception and
action centers run by two city governments receive street children picked up by police for various
offenses. Under the City of Man concept of the former First Lady Imelda Marcos, street children were
regarded as nuisance and eyesore, they had to be eliminated from the street. Temporary shelter,
counseling and value inculcation seminars with families were made available. However, these efforts
provided little impact on their situation. Most of them went back on the street after their release form
the shelter since they had no other alternative to earn a living. From 1984 to 1990 two networks of non
government social development agencies were organized for advocacy, capability building and
coordination. These agencies supported rehabilitation programs for street children and prevention
programs that helped deter child trafficking. The first programs started with a committee of five
agencies, under the Council of Welfare Agencies of the Philippines, Inc. (CWAPI), now known as the
National Council for social Development Foundation (NCSDF). By

The Suspense In The Sixth Sense Essay
The Suspense In The Sixth Sense
The Sixth Sense is a psychological thriller. It follows a very simple set of conventions that are
associated with all psychological thrillers. The hero or anti hero is always present in psychological
thrillers and is there for the audience to relate to. Vulnerable characters are often depicted as small
children. Children are seen as innocent and un knowing, it is easy for the audience to be aware of what
the children are going through as they were all one once. Suspense is always built up with dramatic
and scary music. Using this convention allows the audience time to realise that something is going to
happen. When the audience views a psychological thriller they ... Show more content on

This convention is particularly important when trying to show suspense. Filmmakers are always very
happy to accept psychological thrillers because they are usually always popular e.g. The Thing,
Scream Trilogy, Alien and Vertical Limit.
The Sixth Sense is a psychological thriller about a young boy who can see ghosts and the doctor who
is helping him. As the movie progresses it is able to show why the doctor is helping the boy and why
the child can see the ghosts. The Sixth Sense was a huge success for a director who had not been
marked as one of particular importance. M. Night Shyamalan had previously only directed short films,
but had started to come into the mainstream with his second feature length film Wide Awake. The
Sixth Sense had a huge box office success all over the world and after being nominated for 6 Academy
Awards, it won two Best Supporting Actor (Haley Joel Osment) and Best Screenplay.
This film is another where Bruce Willis is co starring with a child (previously Mercury Rising). Bruce
Willis was specifically chosen to play the role of Dr. Malcolm Crowe. This is not a role that the
audience would expect to see Bruce Willis in as he

A Study On Fish Pass
CHAPTER 2
INTRODUCTION
2.1 General
Fish pass [2] is a hydraulic structure which is generally built on or around on obstructions like dams,
barrages, weirs, or navigation locks in order to facilitate the natural migration of the fishes. Generally
fishways consists of a series of small steps on which the water flows so that the fishes can swim and
pass around the obstruction. The working principle of a fishway is attraction of the migrating species
to a particular location in the river which is on the downstream side of the obstruction and then
enables them to pass upstream. In order to achieve it, either a waterway is opened or the migrating
species are entrapped in a tank and then lifted upstream. Figure 3.1: Schematic diagram of a rock ramp
fishway [11]
The effectiveness of fish pass is the ease with which the entrance to it can be located and how easily
the migrating species can cross it without stress or injury in minimum time. The behaviour of the
migrating species plays an important role in the design of the fishways. The performance of the fish
passes is dependent on the water velocities and the pattern of flow through it. The water velocity in
fish passes must be compatible with the swimming capabilities of the species for which it is designed.
2.2 Types of fish pass

2. Technical fish passes

Factory Act
The Factories Act 1961 is an Act of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. At the time of its passage,
the Act consolidated much legislation on workplace health, safety and welfare in Great Britain.
Though as of 2008 some of it remains in force, it has largely been superseded by the Health and
Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and regulations made under it. However, the Act continues to have a
legal importance as cases of chronic workplace exposure to hazards such as industrial noise, as in the
Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire deafness litigation,[3] or carcinogens[4] often extend back in time
beyond the current legislation. Breach of the residual provisions is still a crime punishable on
summary conviction in the Magistrates Court by a fine of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

  • 2. Compare And Contrast Heroidotus And Herodotus Are those who do not learn from history truly doomed to repeat it? Many an old adage, as well as prevalent historical figures such as Winston Churchill, definitely say so. After all, as the inevitable progression of time and technology pushes forward, the needs and wants of mankind remain the same. For the most part, the human mind is a constant variable, and there are invaluable lessons to be learned from our predecessors ancients and pioneers alike. The fortunate news is, there exists, and will continue to be (at least for the near future) a vast collection of historical resources. A new question is posed however; what defines the potency of a source? In many ways, two ancient historians named Herodotus and Thucydides helped define and set the ground work for what historical writing consists of. Herodotus, being the older of the two, is flatteringly renowned as the father of history, as he provided the world with its first account of a true historical narrative The Histories. Both men lived roughly from the early portion of the 4th Century b.c up until the latter end of the century, and the purposes of their works agreed in principal, but in principal only. For instance, Thucydides authored History of the Peloponnesian War, in which he chronicles the friction between Sparta and Athens. On the other hand, The Histories documents the Greco Persian wars in its own unique way, of course. Certainly, the congruency between these two texts ends with the fact that they ... • 4. Consequences Of Texting And Driving Wouldn t you agree that texting and driving is a big issue nowadays? Many drivers are so caught up in their phones that they risk their lives and the lives of others just so that they could answer a simple text message. Now that this problem is becoming so big, it should have severe consequences. People who text and drive should get license suspension for six months and get $500 for the first violation and $1000 for the second violation. People who text and drive can hit or even kill pedestrians because of being distracted by their phones and not paying attention to the road. In the course of five years, the national number of pedestrians who were killed or hit by distracted drivers increased from 344 to 500 people. If you think about it, many of those people who died could have been young children or elderly people who didn t have a fault, but because of someone being so inconsiderate using their phone, they killed these people. In 2015, 5,376 pedestrians were killed because of drivers who were too busy texting. All those pedestrians who were killed did not think that because of walking somewhere they would be killed by someone so distracted who didn t have the capacity to make sure that the road was clear for them to keep driving. If this problem had further consequences, then many of the people who died wouldn t be dead right now. Most of the drivers who end up killing someone or getting killed by someone on their phone are usually teens. Eleven teens die every day as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. The State Of Public Schools Essay In Kansas, the dispute between the branches for power began when the judiciary noticed the disparity in the funding of Kansas school education. The Kansas judiciary came to the conclusion that the disparity in funding was a violation of Kansas constitution. In an effort to fix this, the Kansas judiciary ordered the legislative to make a solution. However, rather than addressing the school funding issue, the Kansas legislative branch passed a law that removed the Supreme Courts right to appoint local chief judges and the ability to set district court budgets. Then, the Kansas Governor Sam Brownback, who is in the executive branch, signed a law that would remove the funding of the judicial branch if the Kansas Supreme Court ruled against him in the court case concerning the funding of public schools. The actions of both the legislative and executive branch of Kansas government disregard the system of checks and balances because the judicial branch is being punished for doing their job. Therefore, judicial review is vital for a judge in maintaining a consistent balance of power in the government. In 1789, the Constitution of the United States of America was created and serves as the law of the land. In the Constitution, there was an establishment of the different branches of government: the legislative, executive, and the judiciary. In each branch, there are jurisdictional rights that is given and serves as a guideline for the branches to adhere to. For the judicial ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Independent Study Report Reducing Number of Infiltration Cycles for La0.8Sr0.2FeO3 YSZ Cathodes Xiaoyan Li Abstract In order to decrease the number of cycles of infiltration and maintain a comparable cathode performance, the viability of using a conductive composite scaffold of La0.8Sr0.2FeO3 and yttria stablized zirconia (YSZ) with one infiltration cycle was investigated. The infiltration material is nitrate salt solution of La, Sr, Co and Fe to form La0.6Sr0.4Co0.2Fe0.8O3 perovskite phase. Cathodes fabricated from scaffolds using different ratios of LSF YSZ were tested by impedance spectroscopy with the results showing that the ohmic resistance decreases as the amount of LSF increases. • 9. Middle Passage By Charles Johnson The book Middle Passage by Charles Johnson tells a story about the triangular slave trade which took place early in America s history. This book was written with such close attention to detail that it gave the reader a sense of what life was like on board a slave boat. Johnson s writing style included many different techniques including the use of varying structure, imagery and language. All of these devices helped create a very successful story about slavery. This book tells the story about Rutherford Calhoun. He is a newly freed slave and finds himself in New Orleans. This is where he meets Isadora, a sweet and loving school teacher. She soon falls in love with him and wants to help him. She talks about marrying him and it scares him. He tells her that he will never get married. Rutherford meets Squib at a bar and learns that he is a cook on board a slave boat. He gets on board and they allow him to stay. The rest of the book tells the story of what it was like on board. The boat carries 40 Allmuseri tribes people from Africa who are treated poorly. Their culture is taken from them along with everything else. The slaves plan a revolt against the captain, and they gain control of the boat. Bad weather, destroyed the boat and everyone is thrown into the ocean. • 12. Fructose, Glucose And Carbohydrates 1. Describe the structure of a monosaccharide and name the three monosaccharides important in nutrition. Name the three disaccharides commonly found in foods and their component monosaccharides. In what foods are these sugars found? There are three types of monosaccharides; Glucose, Fructose, and Galactose. Monosaccharides are a type of sugar and often called simple carbohydrates. These different sugars all have the same structures consisting of 6 carbon atoms, 12 hydrogens, and 6 oxygen atoms. They all follow the rules of chemistry with each carbon atom having 4 bonds, oxygen having 2, and hydrogen 1 bond. The difference between each of these is the order of arrangement of the atoms and therefore each provide a different amount of sweetness. Glucose is also known as blood sugar and is very important to the body s activities as it is an essential energy source. Fructose, having the same chemical formula of glucose, is considered the sweetest of the sugars. Galactose is a naturally occurring sugar in foods as a single sugar. The order difference of these bonds is shown in the following reference pictures found in Understanding Nutrition. (Whitney Rolfes, 2014, p101) There are three types of disaccharides as well; Maltose, Sucrose, and Lactose. These sugars are compounds of the monosaccharide groups. • 13. The Road To Independence By Joe Hagmann Analysis From the perspective of a parent, whose primary concern is the wellbeing of their child, some of the author s points seem valid. However, I find the author, Joe Hagmann, has his tin foil hat on, and the thought that the entertainment industry is conducting an elaborate scheme to brainwash children, is a tad further than ridiculous. To eliminate independence from the equation doesn t seem like a sound idea in my opinion. Yes, for the most part parents are an excellent force of guidance that can steer a child in the correct direction, but limited exposure to the media and the un Godly world we live in won t be as useful when they re old enough to leave the nest. I don t believe that a parent s word will be enough to prepare oneself for reality. For instance, you can describe to someone how to make a movie with an infinite amount of detail, but it s trumped by the much simpler option of showing them a movie and learning by example. Would a 9 year old, like Hagmann s be too young for complete autonomy and control in their life. Yes. I, however, believe that the road to independence should be gradual, and that parents should have full authority, and then throw them into the deep end when they re still highly dependent on them. I view a bad TV show, like the one described by the author, as an excellent opportunity to draw a line in the sand between right and wrong. • 15. Analysis Of The Book His Work Memorabilia Introduction: In the first book of his work Memorabilia, Xenophon begins by implicitly claiming that he will provide an evaluative account of the persuasiveness of the charges laid against Socrates. Hence, to the extent that the Memorabilia claims to offer a defensive approach towards Socrates, this work bears a line of continuity with Xenophon s Apology of Socrates to the Jury. The Memorabilia, however, offers a break with the Apology in terms of the method it employs in delivering the Socratic exoneration; it is not a work that provides this exoneration by providing its readers with an evaluation of the Socratic defense, against the charges of impiety and corruption of the youth. It is a work, rather, that delivers the Socratic exoneration by placing the rationale that has informed the construction of these very charges, under Xenophon s dialectical and rhetorical scrutiny. This paper will show how Xenophon s refutation of the corruption charges rests on two simultaneous and premises, as made evident by the inclusion of the exchange between Alcibiades and Pericles. Initially, this refutation premises itself on dissociating Socrates from Alcibiades. Secondarily, however, Xenophon s refutation premises itself on evaluating the ambiguities that exist in the antithetical relationship, between on the one hand the arguments made by an accuser that all too readily signifies Socratic pedagogical praxis with having an absolute corrosive influence; and, on the other hand, the ... This case s outcome would be viewed as incorrect using reasoning from a strict legal formalism approach, however it is justified as it demonstrates judicial creativity can be employed when legal formality and procedural legality have not been met. • 29. Adlerian Art Therapy Dissertation Many people have heard the expression that art is a projection of the soul. Art gives us the way to not only express ourselves, but as well as tell a story that our conscious mind cannot. From some, they believe art is simply a hobby, or perhaps something that only hangs in museums; however, many others, and I as well, believe that art has the powers to be something more than what the subject has previously been defined as. While art is quite has been stereotyped in such way as decorations or [art] hang[ing] in a museum, there are purposes for art, ones that are connected to self understanding (Malchiodi 2). I believe that art has the capability of healing past traumas, and creating a bridge to help some people move on with their lives. Art is an astounding idea of creation through the hands of humans. I believe that each piece of art contains a part of every person s life. With that idea stated, questions may arise as to what the idea of the human soul and art pertain to. Art can be a form of treatment that can help delve into the minds and bring forth ideas and images that may have been otherwise trapped in the person s mind who may have trouble verbalizing this memory. In many cases, people don t quite understand what art therapy quite is. In Cathy Malchiodi s book, The Art Therapy Sourcebook, she, rather humorously, explains how many people have asked her what art therapy actually is. For example, one man asked her if art therapy was fixing bad art pieces, as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 46. A Study On Fish Pass CHAPTER 2 INTRODUCTION 2.1 General Fish pass [2] is a hydraulic structure which is generally built on or around on obstructions like dams, barrages, weirs, or navigation locks in order to facilitate the natural migration of the fishes. Generally fishways consists of a series of small steps on which the water flows so that the fishes can swim and pass around the obstruction. The working principle of a fishway is attraction of the migrating species to a particular location in the river which is on the downstream side of the obstruction and then enables them to pass upstream. In order to achieve it, either a waterway is opened or the migrating species are entrapped in a tank and then lifted upstream. Figure 3.1: Schematic diagram of a rock ramp fishway [11] The effectiveness of fish pass is the ease with which the entrance to it can be located and how easily the migrating species can cross it without stress or injury in minimum time. The behaviour of the migrating species plays an important role in the design of the fishways. The performance of the fish passes is dependent on the water velocities and the pattern of flow through it. The water velocity in fish passes must be compatible with the swimming capabilities of the species for which it is designed. 2.2 Types of fish pass 1. Close to nature fish passes 2.
