Sassanid Persians Analysis
One point of contention between Halsall and Heather is the labeling of the Sassanid Persians. The
former said pays little mind to the Persians, saying that they were not considered to be barbarians
(Halsall 52). He moves on to the next people with no explanation other that there was more to being
barbarian than simply living outside the Roman Empire (Halsall 52). The latter, on the other hand,
clearly states that they were thought of as a barbarian culture (Heather, 57 58). This causes the reader
to question what exactly the term barbarian meant to the citizens of the Roman Empire and how this
related to the Sassanid Persians. The label of barbarian was related to the lifestyle, morality, and
martial skill of a group. The Sassanid Persians ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One example of Persian military capability was Emperor Julian s failed invasion of Persia in 363
(Maas, 336). Not only did the emperor die due to wounds inflicted in battle, but his successor, Jovian,
had to make a truce with the Persians in order to return home (Maas, 336). Considering the view that
barbarians represented humanity s irrationality, the Romans would not have wanted to believe that
their greatest military rivals were barbarians. Therefore, it is only natural that they did not label the
Persians as such. One should remember that while they might have believed that Western barbarian
cultures were less able to plan a battle due to a lack of reason, it does not mean that they were actually
poor fighters. In fact, they could rival the Roman army in all but training and numbers (Halsall, 146).
They were even able to defeat Roman troops from time to time. One example from the early empire,
was the loss of three legions led by P. Quinctilius Varus to an alliance of Germanic fighters (Heather,
46). Nor did it meant that barbarian forces were seen as universally weak. Barbarian peoples had been
incorporated into the army even when the empire was new (Halsall, 105). This inclusion could be seen
in the potentially inherited ethnic names that certain regiments, even

Lonliness In John Steinbeck s Of Mice And Men
Lonliness in Of Mice and Men In John Steinbecks novel Of Mice and Men he tells the story of two
men Lennie and George. Lennie, is a mentally handicap man for whom George cares, they travel farm
to farm working to raise money to buy a place of their own. At their last fateful stop, they meet a
variety of interesting yet very long characters. Steinbeck includes several different themes throughout
this novel however lonliness is one of the most prevelant and is coveyed through the characters in this
novel. The first character we meet is other than Lennie and George is Candy. Candy has no family (as
he told us when George was telling him about the place .) He feels as if no one is on his side, for

Candy also only has one arm so he cannot do much. Candy is also the oldest at the ranch, which
leaves no one else in his age group for him to communicate with. In addition to Candy, Curley s wife,
is another lonely character. Curley s wife has nobody to appreciate her, she experiences a lot of sexism
and no trust. Curley is constantly looking for his wife and always wanting to fight, this causes her to
dislike being on the ranch and having Curley as a husband. She is treated with sexism because when
she s around Curley thinks something s going on , this causes no one to want her around. She tells
Lennie at the end of the book that she doesn t even like Curley. The last character that I am writing
about is Crooks. Crooks is the old black man at the ranch which only few appreciate. He experiences
racism, no one will let him come into the bunkhouse to play cards because he is black, as he mentions
all he has is books. The only person who appears to show any interest to Crooks in the story is Lennie.
None of the men at the ranch talk to Crooks very much other than giving orders. My essay has

The Religion Of Chin Economic Political And Social Aspects...
From Buddhism to Christianity, China has experienced a wide variety of religions. As of the year
1964, China has been mainly populated by the religion of Confucianism and also the religion of
Taoism. Even though these religions differ greatly from Christianity they thrive in China because the
communists rule in china suppresses Christian beliefs. The book The Religion of China states how the
book is set up. It states The three parts into which the book is divided show a clear logical unity in
Weber s argument. In part I, Weber examined the economic political and social aspects of Chinese
society, and presented a mixture of structural or material characteristics, some of which were
favorable, and some unfavorable to the development of capitalism; in other words, comparison of
material conditions yielded no decisive distinction between Chinese and Western societies in terms of
propensity for capitalistic development. In part II, Weber presented a decisive contrast between
Confucian values and the ascetic protestant ethic in the sense that the former lacked the dynamic
motivation which the latter had for capitalistic development. Part III contains Weber s characterization
of Taoism as a system of negative and conservative values incapable of developing a dynamic social
orientation toward capitalism. Weber thus located the decisive differentiating element in the passive
and traditionalist character in Confucian and Taoist values, explaining why capitalism developed in

The Human Pancreas Is An Organ Of Both Endocrine And Exocrine
The human pancreas is an organ of both endocrine and exocrine function in regulating blood sugars
and aiding in digestion respectively. About 95 percent of the human pancreas is made of exocrine
tissue and the remaining of endocrine. In exocrine glands, secretions flow through ducts into a body
cavity, such as the nasal passage or urinary tract, rather than directly into the circulation of the
bloodstream, which is a characteristic of the endocrine pancreas.
The exocrine pancreas is split into two major substituents, the acini and the duct system, each
comprised of intralobular and interlobular components.
The acinar cells secrete digestive enzymes, which are also synthesized here. The name of these
enzyme secreting units comes from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These epithelial cells protrude short microvilli from their surface, which contain an abundance of
secretory granules, secreting fluids, which make up the majority of pancreatic juices. Epithelial cells
found in the main pancreatic duct are analogous in structure to those of the interlobular ducts. Both
sections of the duct system have thick, collagenous walls. Leakage prevention of the duct system is
carried out by the Zonula Occludens intercellular tight junctions between the duct and acinar cells.
The pancreatic duct, also known as the duct of Wirsung, connects the pancreas to the bile duct. Hence,
allowing the pancreatic juices to be transported to the gall bladder to fuse with bile, aiding in digestion
and neutralization of gastric acids.
In the case of the exocrine glands, secretions consist of aqueous mixtures. Enzyme secretion in the
pancreas is stimulated by the vagus and a hormone called pancreozymin, which is formed when it is
exposed to proteoses or peptones. The pancreas releases 1000 to 1500 ml of pancreatic juice into the
pancreatic duct each day. Secretions of the pancreas consists of two principal constituents, an alkaline
fluid and enzymes such as lipase, protease and α amylase that are necessary for digestion of fats,
proteins and carbohydrates in vertebrates respectively. Other enzymes present include trypsin,
chymotrypsin and colipase.
The pancreas secretes most of these enzymes as inactive precursors

Argumentative Essay On Puppy Mills
Cook county recently released a new ordinance prohibiting pet stores from selling dogs that were born
in puppy mills. Puppy mills are dog breeders that put profit over dogs, and breed dogs with inhumane
and unsanitary conditions. Usually, dogs from pet stores come from puppy mills. This regulation came
after affect from countless complaints in the Chicagoland area that pets are obtaining diseases and
dying within weeks of adoption. In a report from Mrs. Bagby s 8th graders, 89% of students know
someone who has had a dog or cat from a pet store. Lea Karpov, a student in Mrs. Bagby s class

This leaves us all in confusion: how are the other 7,000 puppy mills functioning without oversight?
Well, there are no regulations on how these puppy mills operate. Picture this: A huge dark room with
small metal cages stacked on top of each other, the air filled with the whimpering and crying of the
puppies trapped inside them. When puppies are bred in these unsanitary conditions, there is usually
just a sole survivor out of a litter of 8, similar to Hunger Games in which only the strong prevails.
According to the Puppy Mill Project, an outgoing campaign to stop for profit breeders (breeders who
put money over dog welfare), over 2 million puppies are sold from puppy mills each year, with 1.2
million slaughtered in the mills due to overpopulation. In fact, some puppies from the mills are sold on

Benefits Of Sugar Gliders
Many people would say a Sugar gliders are an exotic animal that shouldn t be kept in captivity. But
what people don t know is that sugar gliders have been in captivity in many years and are starting to
become a wildly breed species. They are said to even live 5 years longer in captivity because they are
not prey. Sugar gliders have specific diets, but are surprisingly easy to keep happy and healthy. Sugar
gliders are easy exotic pets to maintain but you must do your research before getting them. First off
Suggies have a specific diet that varies between fruits, veggies, and protein. At all times they need a
dry pellet mix in their cage. Glider complete formula is a pellet mix with dry fruit, this mix gives them

In their cage they need seperate bowls for each dish preferably ones that hang on the side. You can
also use cool traps to hide their food in so they get the instincts they are hunting. In their cage they
also need Hammocks, pouches, and toys. Their toys need to be plastic because suggies will pee on
wood and the wood will be soaked and will rot. Ropes are also dangerous to gliders because their nails
could get caught and to get free they will chew their hands off. Overall plastic is the best and safest
option. Sugar gliders should only have items made out of fleece other fabrics are easy to chew and
ingest. For exercise they need a safe wheel and make sure it s quiet because they are nocturnal. For
bedding below they bottom wiring should lay newspaper for an easier more sanitary cleanup. Cleaning
supplies also necessary for the cage are baby wipes, scrub brush, and cage klean by exotic nutrition.

are also the largest economy in Latin America.2 While they experienced high GDP growth from 2008
through 2010, it has slowed in recent years due to high inflation, high operating costs, low
productivity and overdependence on exports of raw commodities.3 Their primary exports include
coffee, iron ore, soy beans, and transport equipment, predominantly to China (18 percent) and the

Competitive Advantage
Competitive advantages are strengths and strategies that keep a company ahead of its competitors. It is
hard to measure competitive advantage and harder to maintain it. Some competitive advantages are
fleeting. The successful companies are those that leverage their competitive advantage successfully
and repeatedly. As understood by us in the above example the competitive advantage that the
cyrptoses enjoy is a direct outcome of its natural habitat and hence the circumstantial gain over its
rivals. Cryptoses has strategically positioned and tactically planned its competitive advantage that
even though its fleeting, its competitive advantage is repetitive and successful. The other name for this
sort of competitive advantage could be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But nothing lasts for ever, as the market matures there are new entrants and it posses a threat to the
competitive advantage. (fig. 2) Gradually with the time competition starts meeting the customer
expectations and the competitive advantage tends to reduce. Example As the company that created the
spreadsheet for PCs, Lotus led the way through much of the 1980s with its 1 2 3. But Lotus did not
foresee the success that Windows would have and failed to develop a version of 1 2 3 for it until 1991.
By then Microsoft s Excel had moved in to dominate the market. The duration of the competitive
advantage is subjective, it depends on impact by the competitors affecting the source of competitive
advantage. Microsoft Corporation is in a class by itself when it comes to exploiting the source for
competitive advantage. IBM chose Microsoft in 1980 to write the operating system for its new
personal computers. Microsoft produced DOS for IBM and then licensed it to more than 100
companies turning out IBM clones. Since it knew more than anyone else about the operating system
for PCs, Microsoft had a head start on applications software like word processing and spreadsheet
programs. Over the years its applications programs became leaders. In the mid 1980s, Microsoft
developed the Windows operating system, giving PCs some of the power and ease of use that had
been associated with Apple computers. Microsoft

Hurricane Katrina Simulation
Hurricane Katrina was a devastating disaster that has affected many people in New Orleans as well as
the surrounding areas. It had a stunning death toll of 1300 people and damage over $100 billion (
Davlasheridze 94 ). The communication were taken down hours after Katrina because of the
unexpected fast winds and floods that broke down 3 million phone lines and 1,000 cellular towers in
Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. ( Joch ). Because of the millions of phone lines that were
battered, contacting the government for help was difficult hours after hurricane Katrina. Not only that,
the people of New Orleans underestimated the power of Hurricane Katrina causing many to be
stranded with no food or water ( Narrator, The Storm ,PBS ). Before Hurricane Katrina, a simulation
called Hurricane Pam was created to prepare for a disaster like Katrina. It was the perfect model of
what happened in Katrina ( Maestri, The Storm ). The purpose of it was to prepare the people
(government) in what is needed during a real hurricane. Unfortunately, Before they could finish the
exercise, FEMA s funding for the simulation was cut before it was completed causing the simulation
to be canceled. The reason why Hurricane Pam was unsuccessful because Medical care for hurricane
victims was not yet finalized, communication systems were not addressed at all, and key
transportation decisions were left to be determined ( Narrator, The Storm , PBS ). If the simulation
were to be completed, the disaster of Hurricane Katrina could ve been solved with a prepared plan to
help many in New Orleans. Over the years of Hurricane Katrina, FEMA faced many criticisms. Not
only FEMA, but every level of government was roundly criticized ( Howellq ). Back in 9/11, They
acted fast and accordingly to the disaster. During hurricane Katrina, they were slow and had false
promises that the locals of New Orleans believed ( Maestri, The Storm , PBS ). Many people asked
FEMA for resources and help, but that turned down because they did not ask the right way ( Hale The
Storm , PBS). During an interview with one of FEMA s secretaries, Michael Brown , had claimed that
FEMA could not help Louisiana because they didn t tell them what they

God s Devine Interaction with Jacob Essay
As God molds and guides Jacob over the course of the Jacob Cycle, God interacts with Jacob in
increasingly personal ways.
I) INTRO
Throughout the Book of Genesis, there are cycles of protagonists with whom God interacts. In one
such cycle, the Jacob cycle, God interacts with the world in a very unique way. Instead of directly
influencing an outcome, He works by using people as conduits. He utilizes people to progress toward
the ultimate goal of achieving His Divine Plan. During the Jacob Cycle, God influences Jacob in four
significant stages: his childhood, his journey to Haran, his journey from Haran, and a final test of will.
Over the course of these stages, God s increasing trust in Jacob parallels his guidance.
1) GOD INFLUENCING ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This support from his mother, working as the removed hand of God, is what allows Jacob to survive.
2) GOD INFLUENCING JACOB
While Jacob is on his way to Haran, God finally decides that it is time to introduce Himself to Jacob.
He speaks to Jacob for the first time in a dream, during which God tells Jacob that, I am with you and
will keep you wherever you go...I will not leave you until I have done [the promises] of which I have
spoken to you (Gen 28:15). Interacting with Jacob in such a way, and telling him that God will keep
him instills within Jacob a sense of security. Jacob can continue on his journey without worry as, even
though Jacob has yet to receive other aspects from the blessings, God is with him and God will keep
him. Following the dream, when Jacob wakes up, he makes a vow where he says that, If God will be
with me, and will keep me in this way that I go...then the Lord shall be my God... (Gen28:20 21).
Jacob s vow [FINISH THIS].
When Jacob finally arrives in Haran, Jacob falls in love with Rachel and offers himself to her father,
Laban, in return for her. However, on their wedding night, Laban tricks Jacob by switching Rachel
with his eldest daughter Leah. When Jacob realizes what happened, he demands that Rachel be
married to him as well. Unbeknownst to him, Rachel could not bear children as she was barren ,
however since God was

Analysis Of Hemingway s Big Two Hearted River
Although Ernest Hemingway and John Burroughs belonged to different generations and wrote in
different times, Hemingway s Big Two Hearted River (BTHR) and Burroughs A Bed of Boughs
(ABOB) share a particularly intimate connection. Both Hemingway s and Burroughs works are
underlined with spiritual depth and exactitude. The fishing narratives of both Hemingway and
Burroughs, are embedded with precision, and praise for the natural world. Hemingway s BTHR
parallels John Burroughs ABOB in both journey and spirit; both writers find joy, and renewal through
love for nature and total immersion into their landscape. Although, Nick s journey is a remarkably
similar one to Burroughs, Hemingway as a modernist must move beyond the condition of John
Burrough s pre war perspective in order to reconcile with the post war trauma and face the tragic
condition of the modern world. John Burroughs explains the importance of love, nothing can take the
place of love... love sharpens the eye, the ear, the touch; it quickens the feet, it steadies the
hand....What we love to do, that we do well. To know is not all; it is only half. To love is the other half
(The Art of Seeing Things 4). John Burroughs was an American naturalist and writer during the mid to
late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. His essay, The Art of Seeing Things discusses the
differences in levels of observation and the importance of both attentiveness and love within the
context of the natural world. Burroughs

Is Beowulf A Successful Hero Or King
When people think of a successful king, they often associate them with the hero. However, many fail
to notice that no one could own both the title king and the hero at the same time; they need to give up
either one of the titles to become a truly successful hero or king. In the famous epic poem, Beowulf,
despite Hrothgar rules Danes, another hero, Beowulf, shows up to solve Danes problem while the true
Danes king sits on his throne and simply gives all honor and credit to Beowulf. To become a truly
successful leader, one must know to put down his honor and fame for his people s safety. Furthermore,

While Beowulf has not defeated Grendel yet, Hrothgar warmly welcomes Beowulf and makes him as
comfortable as possible to prepare his fight with Grendel, because Hrothgar understands clearly that
without Beowulf s help, he cannot protect his people.
Continuing, even though he did not defeat Grendel by himself, Hrothgar demonstrates the wisdom a
king needs to rule his kingdom. At the arrival of Beowulf s troops, Hrothgar knew distinctly that he
needed to gain their loyalty in order to let Beowulf fight Grendel, so he generously gave plenty of
drinks and he even brought out his own wife to please them, ...the Helming woman went on her

Hrothgar utilizes his tactful mind to gain these warriors trust, even though he could not fight anymore
like Beowulf, the Danes king s wisdom remains and makes him qualify as a king. Furthermore,
Hrothgar gives advice to Beowulf, which reveals the insight Hrothgar has and the great worldview he
yields. He says to Beowulf, ...beware of that trap. / Choose, dear Beowulf, the better part, / Eternal
rewards. Do not give way to pride. (1758 1760). In these lines, Hrothgar warns Beowulf about the
danger pride wields, which can infiltrate the strongest warrior; he pointed out the most dangerous trap,
which people in that time period ignored easily when they become a leader. Overall, Hrothgar gives a

the contract work was always a means to an end. It provided the ability to solve a problem I d come to

Modou against her family s wishes (Letter 16); And when confronted with the same dilemma as her
friend Aissatou a polygamous husband, she chooses a different path she looks inward, cut her loses
and makes the decision that seem unreasonable to others even her children. She knows that after thirty
years of marriage and twelve children, putting herself on the dating scene would be a waste of time.
She knows according to the woman in Simone Beauvoir s book, The Second Sex, her flesh is no

her marriage, Ramatoulaye knowing herself more than anyone else, she writes I looked at myself in
the mirror. My eyes took in the mirror s eloquence. I had lost my slim figure, as well as ease and
quickness of movement...I could not delude myself: youth was deserting my body (Letter 41). I see
the internalized patriarchal value that a woman needs a man to survive in this portion of the letter. If
remarriage is not the priority of an abandoned woman, the society has no right to force her to, or
berates her for choosing to stay single.

The Statue Of Liberty, The Washington Monument
Monuments preserve a memory that serves as a reminder of a significant event or person. The Statue
of Liberty, the Washington Monument, Bunker Hill Monument these structures honor and immortalize
remarkable occurrences in history, people, or concepts; and when it is time to construct a monument,
many aspects of the established memorial need to be planned. Factors a group or agency should
consider when memorializing an event or person and in creating a monument is the location, which
should be in the area that was most significant to the person or event. When memorials are placed in
an inappropriate spot, the message is skewed, and there seems to be of little relevance if the

Hence, agencies or groups should consider location when memorializing an event or person and when
constructing a monument because the place can be improper in regards to the history of the memorial;
that is why, with the Holocaust museum, many were outraged because it was going to be in a location
that did little to stop the Holocaust from occurring.
In Source A, it states, communities . . . come together in an act of [viewing] a holy site, [and] seeing as
relic. In context, the article illustrates the magnificence of seeing monuments, for it offers an . . .
experience: a face to face encounter in a specifically valued place. When memorializing a person or
event, and when constructing the monument itself, Source A clearly demonstrates that the location is
similar to observing a holy site, or a relic. The place is incredibly important when considering
memorializing something, for merely making a trip to the memorial is extraordinary, and incredible to
encounter . . . in a specifically valued place. To reword, location is a factor of memorializing an event
or person and when constructing the monument that should be considered because it amplifies the
experience, for the author of Source A conveys it to be like [viewing] a holy site, and seeing a relic in
a valued place.
Another reason why location should be considered when memorializing an event or person, and when
constructing the monument, is because location is critical for the monument s

Spanish and Aztec Cultural Encounter
On November 8, 1519, Spanish leader, Hernan Cortes landed in modern day Mexico, bringing along
six hundred Spaniards and a lot of native allies. The Aztecs, who were natives in Mexico, welcomed
Cortez with opened arms because they believed he was one of their gods, Quetzalcoatl. From the
beginning, they were willing to share their land and wealth with the Spaniards but they Spaniards did
not want to share this land and began to continue with their plan to conquer the land. Throughout this
two year campaign where the Spanish and Aztecs were fighting for ownership of the land, and after
thousands of people killed, the Spanish conquered the land, seizing the existence of the Aztec Empire.
This cultural encounter changed the lives of both the Aztec and Spaniards greatly by the change in
language, religion, and the benefits this take over had on the Spanish Empire. Once central Mexico
was taken over by the Spaniards, the use of the Aztec language, Nahuatl, was quickly put to an end.
The Spaniards saw that the two different languages kept a separation between the two cultures and
decided to force everyone under the Spanish rule to speak Spanish. Spanish is still the language
spoken in Mexico even after all of the different attacks and takeovers. The Aztec s did not like this
idea of taking away their language. Most of them were grown adults and had all they had known was

DBQ On Genetic Modifications
DBQ Imagine if one day, humans were modified to be better people. Well that day is almost here,
because scientists have already attempted to genetically modifying humans in China (OI). Although
humans have the chance to be modified to be better, is that really a good thing? Genetically modifying
humans is not a good idea. For example one of the modifications is to help people not feel pain, but it
can also keep them unaware of harm (Doc. 2). Furthermore genetic modifications on humans is not
good and shouldn t be allowed. Like it was said, humans should not be genetically modified because
the modification could harm the person or others around them. The painkiller gene is meant to help
people not feel pain, but it can also harm

Racial Prejudice in David Guterson s Snow Falling on Cedars
It s not one ocean, said Hatsue. It s four oceans...They re different from each other.
Well how are they different?
They just are. (Guterson 97).
Snow Falling on Cedars, David Guterson s award winning novel, is set on an island in Puget Sound in
the early 1950 s. It is a story of the racial prejudice that was felt so strongly against Japanese
Americans immediately before, during and after WWII. Kabuo Miyamoto, the man accused of
murdering Carl Heine, would never have received a fair trail, had it not been for Ishmael s late
introduction of crucial evidence and Judge Fielding s morally right choice. That Kabuo never stood a

He writes how Most of the faces showed little to no emotion, but conversations on every side
emphasized the adventurous nature of the evacuation movement ( Japanese 21). In trying to make
light of the situation, the author tries to draw attention to things that make people happy when
speaking of the relocation event. He writes of the people ... assembling long before daylight near the
Pacadena Rose Bowl, scene of many a great football game ( Japanese 21). The simple fact that is seen
in this article is that when a society will allow the government to forcibly relocate hundreds of
thousands of people just because they look like the enemy, there is no way that on of these enemy look
alikes would ever stand a chance of getting a fair trial. This is why Kabuo never stood a chance of
getting a fair trial. Even though his trial was occurring more that a decade later, feelings that strong do
not die so quickly.
Another historical event that shows the prejudice that was so rampant against Japanese Americans and
all minorities is recorded in an article entitled 20,000 for Arizona which is it self racial biased. Twenty
thousand alien and Japanese citizens will be moved to the Colorado River Indian Reservation at
Parker, Ariz., in the first extensive relocation... ( 20,000 21). Not only does the simple fact that these

because he was good in bed with her she felt she loved him the best of them all (272). Clearly, The
Wife of Bath valued three things in her marriages, sex, power, and money. In her tale we find that
power is an important role to women in marriage. A knight, after raping a women is spared by a queen

Wicca s Role In Pagan Religion
Virtually everyone has heard of Christianity, Islam and Judaism. But among the three religions that are
close to being tied for fourth place in the United States, almost everyone has heard of Buddhism and
Hinduism. If you mention Wicca to the average American, you will probably receive a blank stare. A
major reason for this is that many Wiccans tend to keep their religion secret; they fear physical and
economic attack.(http://www.religioustolerance.org/wic_prac.htm)
So with that being said, what exactly is wicca and why is it important? Wica is the basic belief where
individuals have the ability to follow their own inspiration and vision while seeking faith.
In order to fully grasp wicca, the understanding of the Pagan religion is highly recommend.

had a specific role in religion, where they were not allowed to achieve much higher status of control or

is said that a women can control a race, whether it s, financially, economically, or physically, women

As wicca began to spread throughout Europe, it attracted many different types of cultures. Since no

Food Stamp Reform

Food Stamps: Why We Need Reform, And How To Do It
Mornings without breakfast transition to nights without dinner, but the situation does not change for
America s poor and needy. The face of food insecurity is often invisible. Behind lowered blinds and
shut doors, poverty establishes itself in many styles and we attempt to defeat it in numerous ways.
Food assistance programs are the primary tool the government uses to alleviate the hunger pangs and
empty diets caused by nutrition insecurity. Increased government oversight is generally not helpful,
but in the case of America s SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), such government
management would probably do good. Right now, there is an array of problems facing ... Show more

While such images have some truth to them, they are widely unrepresentative of actual SNAP misuse.
No doubt, there is still discrepancy in some places, as in Georgia, where prosecutors busted a small
country store at the center of forty six hundred dollars worth of food stamp fraud (Severson, 2013).
That is just one example of the fading but worrying trend of misuse. The government has put many
efforts into effect, and these do seem to be partially responsible for the decreasing trend [citation
needed]. Arguably, the most important measure taken was the movement from paper food stamps to
electronic accounting, known as the Electronic Benefit Transfer, or EBT. Zekeri (2004), in his paper
on college students using SNAP, states that Although the data presented here are limited, one
conclusion seems clear: the goals of EBT reducing theft, fraud, and social stigma or embarrassment in
the food stamp program are being met. Just in the period 2002 2005 (EBT was implemented
nationwide in September 2004), food stamp fraud was reduced by over 50% from the 1999 2000
period, even as SNAP usage increased [citation needed (FNS)]. Overall, among the most vulnerable
members of society SNAP, the National School Lunch Program, and the School Breakfast program,
have all been remarkably successful at their core mission: reducing food insecurity among low income
schoolchildren [citation needed]. While fraud

and very gray. As stated in the videos when the individual is doing anything that might be to their
advantage they will state that they are a journalist, but when they made a mistake or anything they will

The Dons Foil The depth of characters in a story build off of each other as they highlight each other

able to marry Hero. However, Don Pedro s brother, Don John, deceives everyone with his

As stated by Don John, I had rather be a canker in a hedge than a rose in this grace...will it serve for a
model to build mischief on? What is he for a fool that betroths himself to unquietness. (Shakespeare
14). Here it is shown that Don John feels very miserable around people, especially his brother. He
blames others for his mistreatment and prefers to avoid them. Don Pedro shows different feelings with
regard to people as he said, Thou wilt be like a lover presently and tire the hearer with a book of
words. If thou dost love fair Hero, cherish it and I will break with her and her father thou shalt have
her, (Shakespeare 11). Don Pedro shows that he cares for others and will support them in their ideas,
as he said here to help Claudio s love life. He doesn t show that he hate peoples as much as Don John,
but rather he gives advice and helps others with their problems. Don John is move negative character,
while Don Pedro is significantly more considerate for others. In conclusion, Don Pedro and Don John
are clear foils of each other. They show completely different traits as the story goes on. The way they
are treated in society, the way they react towards similar situations, and their differing personalities
show the clear depth between the characters. Shakespeare put these differences in the brothers, Don
Pedro and Don John to enhance the plot. Especially, to clarify and further show the character s traits.

The 400 Blows Analysis
The 400 Blows is a French New Wave film made in 1959, directed by François Truffaut as his debut
feature film. The film focuses on the trials and tribulations of a young adolescent named Antoine
Doinel played by Jean Pierre Léaud, who is growing up in Paris during the early 1950s. While trying
to find freedom from the craziness of life, Antoine is faced with overcoming loneliness and the harsh
consequences on his unexplained actions. Inspired by Truffaut s personal life, the director expresses
pivotal moments of his own childhood through a rendition of Antoine. Truffaut s directorial premiere

We see from clever fades Jump cuts, match cuts and various long takes. Truffaut does this in an effort
to move forward his vision of the auteur theory. The opening sequence uses a series of high angle
shots to assist in establishing a feeling of childhood innocence and indeed, the child in this film,
Antoine Dionel (Jeanne Pierre Leaud), starts out innocent. The camera focuses of the city buildings
and the sky above. As shown from a ground point of view, the buildings are larger than life and
intimidating. This is how most children view the world, as being large and intimidating. Take, for
example, the scenario of dropping a child off for his/her first day of school. Most of them are
devastated because they have to deal with a world that is larger than the one they know, and that is
intimidating. The sky is vast and innocent, symbolizing a child s mind. Children have incredible
imaginations and are also innocent by nature. There is a definite correlation here between the angle
selected and the sense of childhood innocence. However, this particular camera angle does not always

The Vietnam War And The Long Arms Of American History
The Vietnam War is a sore spot in the long arms of American History. Nearly 60,000 Americans died
and estimated millions of Vietnamese. It was considered to be the longest war in American history as
well. Many questioned the motives and causes of the war calling it an atrocity. Others say that it may
have been a terrible effort to defend a noble cause, the spread of communism. The years precluding
the Vietnam war, there was a war taking place in Vietnam. It was known as the Indochina War, where
the Vietnamese waged war against the colonial rule of France. The French were defeated in the battle
of Dien Bien Phu. Following this defeat, there was a peace conference in Geneva, which resulted in
Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam to receive their independence. The Geneva Accords officially divided
Vietnam into North Vietnam and South Vietnam. Ho Chi Minh and his communist forces led the
North. A French backed emperor led the south until elections in 1956. These elections were supposed
to reunify Vietnam. United State s Cold War policy was beginning to come into play by this time. The
U.S. was concerned with the domino theory, which believed that the communist overtake of North
Vietnam would cause other countries in surrounding regions to adopt the ideology. In the interest of
the U.S. to support South Vietnam, they back an anti communist politician named Ngo Dinh Diem. In

Why Is The Battle Of Gettysburg Important
With over 51,000 dead and wounded soldiers, the battle of Gettysburg is arguably the costliest and
bloodiest battle of the Civil war. Many people have heard and maybe even memorized the Gettysburg
Address by President Abraham Lincoln without truly understanding the significance of the battle. To
be able to understand why the battle of Gettysburg was so important, one must understand what
happened during the three day battle, what it was like for the soldiers to fight in the circumstances of
the battle, and the effects of the battle on American History. The battle of Gettysburg is the most well
known and important battle in the Civil War to understand because of the monumental events leading
up to and during the actual battle, the weighty significance of the events, and the address by President
Lincoln.
The battle of Gettysburg is the most important battle of the Civil War because of the events leading up
to Gettysburg. General Lee and the Confederate Army had the momentum. Lee s reputation as a

Single Sex Classrooms Helps Increase Self Esteem
Single Sex Education is considered to be a teaching system that has been implemented in schools all
over world, from long ago and little still today. That means that girls and boys are instructed in
separate schools or classrooms. How does single sex education benefits students? That is the question
that some parents make themselves when their sons enter school. Researches demonstrate that single
sex classrooms helps increase self esteem; offer an environment that students feel more confortable in
which will lead to better classroom discussions; Increases in subjects that certain genders are usually
not interested can also be beneficial. Nowadays very few schools apply this system, for it is well
known the benefits that Co education offers. Co Education is another teaching system that gained
popularity some years ago and it is about that male and female are in mixed classrooms. What is the
importance of co education in our society? That has become a vital part of every institution, helping
students from both genders to construct a mutual understanding between them. Some benefits of co
education are: it helps and teaches how to be successful by working together; removes thoughts of
superiority and inferiority between students from single sex education; students in co educational
schools grow to be confident expressing their view in the presence of the opposite sex; for both
genders co education provides more realistic way for students to face their places in the wider

Individualisation Of Responsibility For Health Essay

They along with many other authors (Sointu 2006) suggests that negative experiences within

practises and the inability to cure chronic illness is part of the explanation for the move to use CAM
and alternative therapies (Telford, Kralik, Koch,2006). The results of the study indicate that another
reason for uptake is the fact that many believed in the trends of alternative methods and choose to use
a consumerist attitude (Sharma, 1992:80) to obtaining health care. Consumer demand has brought
about the changes associated with CAM and alternative therapies use. The increase in several
countries at grass root level as suggested by Barry (2005) has influenced the integration of several

The aim of this essay is to evaluate and understand the effects on the city of Berlin with the creation of
the Berlin Wall. The Berlin Wall has played an extremely important role in the life of millions of
people. This 155km Wall has defined the fate of German people that have been separated by the Wall
for a very long time.
On 12th and 13th of August 1961, leaders Walter Ulbrict and Nikita Khrushchev built a wall around
Berlin to prevent East Berlin citizens from leaving. At first the incarnation of the wall was just a
barbed wire fence until it was made more foreboding by making a row of secondary walls, electric
fences, trenches and an open death strip . The Berlin wall measured to be 3.6 meters high and 155km
in length but only 43 km of the wall divided West and East Berlin.
The research that will be addressed is: What effects did the Berlin Wall have on the regions and city of
Berlin? This investigation will be focused on the change of government system, the rise of the Berlin
Wall and its effects on its economy/society and the effects on the day to day living of Berliners lives
and their tries to escape.
Section One: East and West Berlin Government System
The Berlin Wall is an outcome of the tension between the US and the USSR. After losing the Second
World War, Berlin was occupied by four different sectors; ¬¬ America, United Kingdom, France in the
West and The Soviet Union in the East. Before the year 1961, East Germany could move

The Fox And The Wood Cutter By Aesop
A fable is a story that involves humans and talking animals and usually implies a moral. One fable
written by Aesop titled The Fox and the Woodcutter tells a story of human nature. Though the lesson
is not keen to the eye, one phrase id use to describe it is absolutely right. the fox is a character that
starts off running for her life, but her bigger role in this story in the watcher. as she runs with every
ounce of vigor and energy, she spots our hunter and begs for her protection amongst the trees he fell.
Verbatim the wood cutter swore he would not betray the fox, this quotation shows the initial intent of
our wood cutter. yet as we see later in our story the man not only protects the fox, he lies to her as
well. He tells the hunter

Earlier the work was based on the specific requirements of the client and it was more of research
based but now the focus on research will be less and it will be more on general requirements.
Therefore the type of work would shift.
The present organizational chart of the SC Department in the company includes two buyers, one
material control clerk, one expeditor and two shipper/receivers. This structure was functional to the
previous strategy because there was a strong focus on the purchasing function. We believe that in
order to maximize the SC Department resources in accordance with the new structure the positions
and functions of the people with the SC Department will have to be adapted to strengthen the
inventory management function of the company. There company could benefit from having one
person responsible for forecasting demand. Processes should be reviewed to ensure that the SC
Department has sufficient access to information in order to achieve this task. Re buying will also be of
utmost importance now in order to ensure that there is always sufficient inventory to maintain
production going.
Vendor Development.
A vendor base of 350 can prove very beneficial for Spartan. Such a large base of vendor proves that

Persuasive Paper On Coaching
Introduction Coaching is a very interesting and fun job to be able to do. There are many things that
come with being a coach, good and bad. Getting used to being around more people and having to
teach them plays will be something new to me. Reasoning behind choosing this career path is because
I used to play so I understand the game and have a strong passion for it. My career goal is to try and
become one of the best coaches there is in the NFL and make others wanna play or coach. Career
related information Nfl coaching does not require a lot of school. The Bureau of Labor Statistics
recorded that Coaches and scouts typically need a bachelor s degree ( Coaches and Scouts ). They
must also have extensive knowledge of the sport. Coaches typically gain this knowledge through their
own experiences playing the sport at some level. High schools typically hire teachers or administrators
at the school for most coaching jobs. Coaches do not have regular schedules like the normal person.
Former NFL and college coaches have said Coaches and scouts often work irregular hours, including
evenings, weekends, and holidays. Professional or college coaches usually work more than 40 hours a
week for several months during the sport s season ( Coaches and Scouts ).Most of the time coaches
will miss out on a lot of things because of their job. The average pay for coaching is not all that but it
varies for each level of coaching. Colleges, universities, and professional schools; state,

Who Is The Husband In Cathedral
If Cathedral were to have been told by the wife in the story instead of the husband, I would expect the
story to be less skeptical of Robert but not have a point made at the end. The wife has known Roger
much longer than her husband. She is also very close with him. The husband seems nervous to have a
blind man in his home. He seems skeptical to open his home to the man probably because he does not
know what to expect seeing as he has never met a blind person before. The wife would not be nervous
because she knows how to help and take care of Robert after being his care takers for a short while.
However, the husband s skepticism and premature judgement of Robert is the entire lesson of the
story. After not fully welcoming Robert into his

  • 2. Sassanid Persians Analysis One point of contention between Halsall and Heather is the labeling of the Sassanid Persians. The former said pays little mind to the Persians, saying that they were not considered to be barbarians (Halsall 52). He moves on to the next people with no explanation other that there was more to being barbarian than simply living outside the Roman Empire (Halsall 52). The latter, on the other hand, clearly states that they were thought of as a barbarian culture (Heather, 57 58). This causes the reader to question what exactly the term barbarian meant to the citizens of the Roman Empire and how this related to the Sassanid Persians. The label of barbarian was related to the lifestyle, morality, and martial skill of a group. The Sassanid Persians ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One example of Persian military capability was Emperor Julian s failed invasion of Persia in 363 (Maas, 336). Not only did the emperor die due to wounds inflicted in battle, but his successor, Jovian, had to make a truce with the Persians in order to return home (Maas, 336). Considering the view that barbarians represented humanity s irrationality, the Romans would not have wanted to believe that their greatest military rivals were barbarians. Therefore, it is only natural that they did not label the Persians as such. One should remember that while they might have believed that Western barbarian cultures were less able to plan a battle due to a lack of reason, it does not mean that they were actually poor fighters. In fact, they could rival the Roman army in all but training and numbers (Halsall, 146). They were even able to defeat Roman troops from time to time. One example from the early empire, was the loss of three legions led by P. Quinctilius Varus to an alliance of Germanic fighters (Heather, 46). Nor did it meant that barbarian forces were seen as universally weak. Barbarian peoples had been incorporated into the army even when the empire was new (Halsall, 105). This inclusion could be seen in the potentially inherited ethnic names that certain regiments, even ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Lennie, is a mentally handicap man for whom George cares, they travel farm to farm working to raise money to buy a place of their own. At their last fateful stop, they meet a variety of interesting yet very long characters. Steinbeck includes several different themes throughout this novel however lonliness is one of the most prevelant and is coveyed through the characters in this novel. The first character we meet is other than Lennie and George is Candy. Candy has no family (as he told us when George was telling him about the place .) As of the year 1964, China has been mainly populated by the religion of Confucianism and also the religion of Taoism. Even though these religions differ greatly from Christianity they thrive in China because the communists rule in china suppresses Christian beliefs. The book The Religion of China states how the book is set up. It states The three parts into which the book is divided show a clear logical unity in Weber s argument. In part I, Weber examined the economic political and social aspects of Chinese society, and presented a mixture of structural or material characteristics, some of which were favorable, and some unfavorable to the development of capitalism; in other words, comparison of material conditions yielded no decisive distinction between Chinese and Western societies in terms of propensity for capitalistic development. In part II, Weber presented a decisive contrast between Confucian values and the ascetic protestant ethic in the sense that the former lacked the dynamic motivation which the latter had for capitalistic development. Part III contains Weber s characterization of Taoism as a system of negative and conservative values incapable of developing a dynamic social orientation toward capitalism. Weber thus located the decisive differentiating element in the passive and traditionalist character in Confucian and Taoist values, explaining why capitalism developed in the ... The Human Pancreas Is An Organ Of Both Endocrine And Exocrine The human pancreas is an organ of both endocrine and exocrine function in regulating blood sugars and aiding in digestion respectively. About 95 percent of the human pancreas is made of exocrine tissue and the remaining of endocrine. In exocrine glands, secretions flow through ducts into a body cavity, such as the nasal passage or urinary tract, rather than directly into the circulation of the bloodstream, which is a characteristic of the endocrine pancreas. The exocrine pancreas is split into two major substituents, the acini and the duct system, each comprised of intralobular and interlobular components. These epithelial cells protrude short microvilli from their surface, which contain an abundance of secretory granules, secreting fluids, which make up the majority of pancreatic juices. Leakage prevention of the duct system is carried out by the Zonula Occludens intercellular tight junctions between the duct and acinar cells. The pancreatic duct, also known as the duct of Wirsung, connects the pancreas to the bile duct. In the case of the exocrine glands, secretions consist of aqueous mixtures. Enzyme secretion in the pancreas is stimulated by the vagus and a hormone called pancreozymin, which is formed when it is exposed to proteoses or peptones. The pancreas releases 1000 to 1500 ml of pancreatic juice into the pancreatic duct each day. Some competitive advantages are fleeting. The successful companies are those that leverage their competitive advantage successfully and repeatedly. It had a stunning death toll of 1300 people and damage over $100 billion ( Davlasheridze 94 ). The communication were taken down hours after Katrina because of the unexpected fast winds and floods that broke down 3 million phone lines and 1,000 cellular towers in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. ( Joch ). Because of the millions of phone lines that were battered, contacting the government for help was difficult hours after hurricane Katrina. Not only that, the people of New Orleans underestimated the power of Hurricane Katrina causing many to be stranded with no food or water ( Narrator, The Storm ,PBS ). Before Hurricane Katrina, a simulation called Hurricane Pam was created to prepare for a disaster like Katrina. It was the perfect model of what happened in Katrina ( Maestri, The Storm ). The purpose of it was to prepare the people (government) in what is needed during a real hurricane. Unfortunately, Before they could finish the exercise, FEMA s funding for the simulation was cut before it was completed causing the simulation to be canceled. The reason why Hurricane Pam was unsuccessful because Medical care for hurricane victims was not yet finalized, communication systems were not addressed at all, and key transportation decisions were left to be determined ( Narrator, The Storm , PBS ). If the simulation were to be completed, the disaster of Hurricane Katrina could ve been solved with a prepared plan to help many in New Orleans. Over the years of Hurricane Katrina, FEMA faced many criticisms. Not only FEMA, but every level of government was roundly criticized ( Howellq ). Back in 9/11, They acted fast and accordingly to the disaster. During hurricane Katrina, they were slow and had false promises that the locals of New Orleans believed ( Maestri, The Storm , PBS ). I) INTRO Throughout the Book of Genesis, there are cycles of protagonists with whom God interacts. In one such cycle, the Jacob cycle, God interacts with the world in a very unique way. Instead of directly influencing an outcome, He works by using people as conduits. He utilizes people to progress toward the ultimate goal of achieving His Divine Plan. Don Pedro shows that he cares for others and will support them in their ideas, as he said here to help Claudio s love life. He doesn t show that he hate peoples as much as Don John, but rather he gives advice and helps others with their problems. Don John is move negative character, while Don Pedro is significantly more considerate for others. In conclusion, Don Pedro and Don John are clear foils of each other. They show completely different traits as the story goes on. • 30. The 400 Blows Analysis The 400 Blows is a French New Wave film made in 1959, directed by François Truffaut as his debut feature film. The film focuses on the trials and tribulations of a young adolescent named Antoine Doinel played by Jean Pierre Léaud, who is growing up in Paris during the early 1950s. While trying to find freedom from the craziness of life, Antoine is faced with overcoming loneliness and the harsh consequences on his unexplained actions. Inspired by Truffaut s personal life, the director expresses pivotal moments of his own childhood through a rendition of Antoine. The opening sequence uses a series of high angle shots to assist in establishing a feeling of childhood innocence and indeed, the child in this film, Antoine Dionel (Jeanne Pierre Leaud), starts out innocent. The camera focuses of the city buildings and the sky above. As shown from a ground point of view, the buildings are larger than life and intimidating. This is how most children view the world, as being large and intimidating. Take, for example, the scenario of dropping a child off for his/her first day of school. Most of them are devastated because they have to deal with a world that is larger than the one they know, and that is intimidating. The sky is vast and innocent, symbolizing a child s mind. Children have incredible imaginations and are also innocent by nature. There is a definite correlation here between the angle selected and the sense of childhood innocence. It was considered to be the longest war in American history as well. Many questioned the motives and causes of the war calling it an atrocity. Others say that it may have been a terrible effort to defend a noble cause, the spread of communism. The years precluding the Vietnam war, there was a war taking place in Vietnam. It was known as the Indochina War, where the Vietnamese waged war against the colonial rule of France. The French were defeated in the battle of Dien Bien Phu. Following this defeat, there was a peace conference in Geneva, which resulted in Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam to receive their independence. The Geneva Accords officially divided Vietnam into North Vietnam and South Vietnam. Ho Chi Minh and his communist forces led the North. A French backed emperor led the south until elections in 1956. These elections were supposed to reunify Vietnam. United State s Cold War policy was beginning to come into play by this time. The U.S. was concerned with the domino theory, which believed that the communist overtake of North Vietnam would cause other countries in surrounding regions to adopt the ideology.
