Salton Sea Research Paper
From being a resort area filled with numerous yachts, the Salton Sea has become an abandoned
destination since the late 20th century. The Salton Sea was created by accident; with an exponential
increase in precipitation, water diverted from the Colorado River to Imperial Valley creating the
Salton Sea. Through its early years, the Salton Sea was a tourist attraction. It was an inland sea,
allowing the public to ride boats and fish. Soon after, the Imperial Valley needed a drainage lake, and
the federal government permitted the Salton Sea to be utilized for this specific purpose. Salton Sea
became a lake where residues from fertilizers as well as pesticides such as DDT fertilizers and
hazardous chemicals were dumped into without any regulation.

A Humanitarian Crisis In Syria
What comes to mind when you hear a country is going through a humanitarian crisis? Perhaps
destruction, genocide, surveillance, propaganda, civilians not having a voice, and much more. This is
what happened in the city of Aleppo in Syria. Aleppo was one of the oldest city with marvelous
medieval architecture, rich cultural history, and its popularity in tourism. Aleppo was an open museum
and a home to two and half million people, but all of that was lost in the Battle of Aleppo. Syria is
ruled by the dictator Bashar al Assad and has been in power for seventeen years. Assad restricted
Syrian civilians from freedom of speech and according to CNN gave the government broad power to
detain people for perceived threats to national security (CNN). ... Show more content on

It is strongly suggested that Assad has used chemical weapons on his own people but till this day he
denies it. In September 2015 Russa became involved backing Assad s soldiers and pounding rebel
groups with airstrikes repeatedly. Moreover, reports of civilian massacres at the hands of Assad s
soldiers quickly filter out the city. The neighborhoods are destroyed making it very difficult to live
there, but some people have nowhere to go and have no choice but to stay. Kids are wandering the city
while explosions are going off every few seconds. In the Vice episode Assad s Syria Isabella the
interviewer comes across three men sitting play a game and she find it rather weird that they had not
left yet, but the men said they have nowhere else to go. She also asked if they were scared because she
was wearing a bullet vest and they were just sitting in their normal clothes. The men replied that they
are used to hearing the explosions and they had accepted the fact that at any time they could die. This
has been the unfortunate reality for Aleppo for six

b. The prevention and management of unintended hypothermia remain a nation priority in preventing
surgical site infection, and it has been designated as an SCIP quality measure. (Philips, 2015)
i. Hypothermia may also trigger thermoregulatory vasoconstriction; the consequent reduction in
cutaneous blood flow leads to subcutaneous tissue hypoxia and failure of humoral immune defense
systems to reach target areas to fight infection. (Hart et al., 2011) ii. Hypothermia, defined as a core
body temperature less than 36C, is a relatively common occurrence in the unwarmed surgical patient.
A mild degree of perioperative hypothermia can be associated with significant morbidity and
mortality. (Hart et al., 2011)

The Limits Of Growth ( Tltg )
Introduction
At the time it was written, The Limits to Growth (TLTG) was groundbreaking in its modeling,
analysis and subsequent predictions of future trends. It is a policy paper pushing for sustainable
development, coupled with technological modernisation. This essay will examine TLTG through an
ecocentric lens. First, this paper will briefly summarise ecocentrism. Second, it will discuss TLTG and
its findings in a contemporary context. It will be argued that TLTG ultimately failed in its ambition,
because it utilised a discourse system that did not address key systematic causes of resource depletion.
TLTG recognises human s overconsumption and disregard for the Earth s finite resources as a cause of
exponential growth. However, it very much focuses on the survival of people rather than the Earth s
intrinsic value. An ecocentric perspective argues that each fragment of the Earth has an intangible
value and should be treated accordingly; a concept that TLTG does not address.
An ecocentric perspective has the propensity to halt the over exploitation that occurs at such an
alarming rate. Ecocentrism should be applied on a systemic, domestic and individual level to avoid the
Earth s further degradation. Indeed, this would require the re structuring of capitalism. Subsequently, a
seemingly radical and alternative discourse system is needed to dominate policy documents such as
TLTG. This essay does not suggest that ecocentric perspectives would be successful in creating

Dartmouth College Case Summary
The case that Richard N. Current describes in The Dartmouth College Case, is the four year prolonged
Trustees of Dartmouth v. Woodward dispute between a private college and the state legislature of New
Hampshire. In 1769, King George III of England granted a charter to Dartmouth College which
spelled out the purpose of the school, set up the structure to govern it, and gave land to the college (
Key Supreme Court Cases ). The private college was established and funded by a self perpetuating
board of trustees without government interference ( Dartmouth College Case ). However, the
legislature of New Hampshire became involved when certain people, among other reasons, wished to
revise the charter...[and change] the school from private to public ( Key Supreme Court ... Show more

The college strained itself to obtain funds for the case and requested the familiarity and spirit to argue
the case from Daniel Webster. He only agreed to represent the college in Washington along with a
famous Baltimore lawyer, Joseph Hopkinson, on account for a thousand dollars. After successfully
hiring Webster and Hopkinson, the two set out their brief which outlined the three ways the legislators
of New Hampshire had gone beyond their rightful powers (Current 25). Firstly, the legislature took
away the vested rights reserved in the charter for the trustees; something only the courts were legally
bound to do (Current 25). Secondly, a legislative act could not take the place of the common law of
the land and deprive a person of their property under the constitution of New Hampshire (Current 26).
Lastly, the legislators also violated the Constitution of the United States, which provided that no state
should pass any law impairing the obligation of contracts (Current

The Film Twelve Angry Men Which Was Produced In 1957,...
The film Twelve Angry Men which was produced in 1957, demonstrates how a jury room took place
in the 1950 s. The whole film except the first few minutes of it, takes place in a jury room without air
conditioning. It demonstrates how steamy and tense things can get between jurors when it comes to
deliberating a case. It is apparent that the theme of this film is justice. Why should this 18 year old boy
who could possibly be innocent, receive the death penalty when he still has a whole life ahead of him?
The jurors deliberated on the trial of a first degree murder case of this young boy who was accused of
stabbing and killing his father. Their opinions are expressed and all evidence is presented in order to
conclude the verdict of the boy. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was when the film becomes interesting. The argument of the film is the jurors deliberating
whether the boy is guilty. After juror number 8 stated the boy could be innocent, the other jurors were
stubborn and kept insisting to send the boy to the chair. The fact that all the other jurors assumed that
the boy was guilty was quite unfair. This was when the major conflict arose in the film, when all but
one juror disagreed with the punishment which then forced them to discuss the case.
Since juror number 8 didn t agree with the rest of the jurors, he had to support his claim with the
evidence that was presented. He talked about the evidence that was collected from the crime. Some of
the evidence is strong and makes sense. Juror number 8 made several good points and one of them
was that it was not possible for the old man to have heard the yell. The juror claimed that the old man
had poor hearing and there was a train that passed by the house around the same time the killing
occurred. Therefore, how was it possible for the yell to have been heard? This evidence relates to the
rest of the evidence collected. The old man was not a good witness to the case and so the juror had to
continue to state the rest of the evidence in order to convince the other men that the boy was not
guilty. Another strong point that the writer made in this film is the physical evidence that was used in
the case. There was not much

My Big Decision
My Big Decision
Every day, from the minute we wake up, till the time we go to bed, we are faced with choices. The
choices we face on a day to day basis range from getting out of bed and starting our day, to investing
our hard earned money into buying a new car or house. We make so many choices in just one day and
most of the time we don t even ponder the decisions we end up making. Recently, in the past year,
after being involved in an automobile accident I was faced with, what seemed to be a very big
decision. This very big decision was whether or not to move back to Cleveland after living on my own
for five years. I pondered this choice for a very long time and in the process many thoughts crossed
my mind. I had a considerable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although I accepted the job offer that my old boss extended my way I didn t think that I d be in retail
sales for any long period of time. I thought that it was the best decision I had especially being
unemployed since moving home. In making the decision to go back into retail sales it got my parents
off my back about finding a job and it also got me out of the house for a couple hours a day. At the
time I was okay with going back into retail sales but I wasn t planning on it being longer term what so

Upon moving home I left all my friends and at that time many of my friends from growing up no
longer lived in Cleveland. I was concerned with how I would meet new people and make new friends.
Since my accident, I ve made some big changes to my life and the bar scene is one I occluded. I was
really unsure of how I was going to meet new people and make friends.
Moving back to Cleveland was one of the best decisions I made because it has brought me to this
moment in time. In moving home I decided that I wanted to go back to school. Since my accident,
wanting to become a nurse is something I ve grown very fond of and in moving home I ve
accomplished part of that goal. I have everything I need and all the support to be successful in school

The Body vs. Stand by Me
Did you know that Stand by Me a academy award winning film directed by Rob Steiner was based of
a novel called The Body by Stephen King ? In fact in both the novel and film the plot is the same but
there are some small changes. The plot is about four twelve year olds who embark into a journey to
discover the body of Ray Brower. During their journey each boy learns something extraordinary about
themselves and about there friends. The main conflict in the novel is that there is another group of
older boys who are also searching for the body. The novel was released in 1982 and the film was
released in 1986. Even though the film was amazing there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the novel the setting of the story takes place in a small town named Castle Rock that is located in
Maine in the year 1960 and in the film the setting is Castle Rock, Oregon in 1959. This difference
would be considered a minor change because it is only one year apart from the original date in the
novel and the change of the state does not really matter. Adding to differences is that in the novel in
chapter seven there is a story that is told by Gordie called Stud City in the film it is not shown or
mentioned. This would be considered a major change because the story shows how smart and mature
Gordie is for a twelve year old and it is important for the build up of the character but it is excluded
from the film. Another difference is that in the novel when the boys find the body and they confront
the other boys Chris pulls the gun out to make them leave. In the film it is Gordie who takes out the
gun to make them leave. This is a major change because in the novel it helped make the ending make
more sense and helped Chris buildup as a character. In addition to differences in the novel when the
boys are on there journey they go into the pond to swim because they want to. In the film they go into
the pond because they have to in order to get across. This isn t considered a major change because it
doesn t affect the plot in any way. Something the filmmakers did well

The Death Of Robespierre, Leader Of The Jacobins Essay
Marat was sitting in his bathtub, he received a visitor by the name of Charlotte Corday, who had been
refused admittance earlier in the day. She claimed to have vital information on escaped Girondins and
proceeded to list off the names of the missing Girondins. After he had finished writing out the list,
Corday claimed that he told her, It will not be long before they are guillotined , a statement she later
changed at her trial to, I will shortly have them all guillotined in Paris . With that statement, Corday
retrieved a knife she had brought and plunged it into his chest. Marat cried out in agony saying Aidez
moi, ma chère amie! ( Help me, my dear friend! ) and died. After Marat s death, Maximilien
Robespierre, leader of The Jacobins, was appointed as the head of The Committee of Public Safety on
July 27, 1793. Although Robespierre was a bourgeoisie, he identified with the plight of the sans
culottes and would become their voice as the revolution progressed. It was because of this
representation that he would become a prominent figure at the most radical point in the revolution. He
defended the principle that the rights of man should extend to all men including the poor, and the
slaves in the colonies. Beginning in the spring of 1792 and forward, France was in an upheaval. The
country was involved in foreign wars, civil war and revolt. While revolutionaries were planning a new

Second Language Acquisition Essay
Second language acquisition has long been the focus of linguists and researchers in the teaching field.
It highlights the process and theories of acquiring second languages among learners. Second language
acquisition seeks to understand the development of second language acquisition among second
language learners. Mastering the knowledge of second language acquisition helps teachers to
successfully provide effective teaching for students. Undeniably, knowledge on second language
acquisition is very much related to effective teaching of second languages. Many linguists and teacher
educators believe that all language teachers should be equipped with knowledge of second language
acquisition to help them teach effectively. Additionally, most teacher training programmers have
incorporated second language acquisition as a compulsory course to make sure that all future language
teachers are well equipped with enough knowledge to teach in classroom.
Then again, the relationship between second language acquisition and effective second language
teaching is still being discussed. Hence, this paper aims to explain ways in which knowledge of
second language acquisition helps language teachers to provide a better and effective second language
teaching in classrooms by highlighting three main ideas; knowledge of second language acquisition
helps teachers to understand the different needs of students, to design a good second language course
and effective teaching method for learners, and to

The Revolution in the English Textile Industry
The hidden story is like a seed of single cotton, hidden inside its soft fluffiness. The truth is clinged
into the historical facts, through books, media, or other sources, and you have to work it this way and
that. It s almost as if the various facts want to hold on to it and keep it hidden. And the history of
cotton is too long and complicate, in a certain way, is the story about of cotton and people in America
that found the Industrial Revolution in America. Expressing the outstanding development, Karl Marx
wrote in 1846 that without cotton you have no modern industry. For Marx, the relationship between
cotton and slavery was similarly unambiguous: Without slavery, you have no cotton. (1)
Cotton came to America from England industrial development. Cotton, a shrubby plant, thrives in
warm climates just suitable for South regions and couldn t be grown in the North, because the climate
was too cold. (2) Early in the seventeenth century, agriculture in the American South was dominated
by staples or money crops products (tobacco, then rice, indigo, and sugar) that fetched a high price in
the marketplaces of Europe; finally came cotton, the king of them all. (3) By 1860, cotton dominated
the American economy. The South exported 66 percent of the world s supply, and cotton made up
more than half of the supply with almost 90 percent of cotton grown in the South. Much of Southern
society had become dependent upon a cotton culture and the institution of slavery. (4)

Persuasive Essay On Happiness
We live in America, a country that is rather prosperous in comparison to many other countries in the
world. In order to get to where this country is today wars were started, people enslaved, and countries
exploited. The greater majority s happiness was derived from another humans suffering. This has
occurred throughout the majority of human history and continues into today s society. While we may
see this as the wrong way to live we don t mind sustaining our prosperity. Just as Jesus Christ suffered
for the sake of humanity s sins, much of what gives us happiness unmistakably generates affliction
around the globe. Just as every action has an equal or opposite reaction, every choice has a
repercussion whether we know it or not. Our world is reminiscent of a yin yang symbol, the white side
representing our happiness and the black side the pain and suffering that got us there. By choosing our
advantage over what is right, staying ignorant, and entanglement in consumerism our happiness is the
offspring of despair somewhere in the world. We are all guilty of encountering happiness that was in
some way the byproduct of someone s suffering. Whether we realize it or not does not mean we are
not guilty of the same sin. For example, I went to a job interview a few months ago and there were
two other gentlemen that were far more qualified than me interviewing as well. We all needed and
wanted the job equally although the job was granted to me because I knew a general manager at the
company. I chose success in exchange for the other gentlemen suffering a declined job offer. A lot of
the time we don t even realize the suffering that our decisions cause or that suffering even occurred.
America has been at war for nearly half of its existence to protect our rights and liberty. While we are
safe and happy within our own borders both our soldiers and the country we are fighting are suffering
immensely. For many years America endorsed slavery as free labor to create a happier society for
white people. In these examples, many people are suffering for the sake of the America or particular
race s happiness. While much of this is uncontrollable for the majority we still have to face the facts
that our happiness

Federal Funding And Private Investors
specified in Proposition 1A. However, as time passes, the initial estimate is beginning to look like a
low ball. The construction process has taken longer than expected up until this point, and that has
many direct and indirect costs associated. Some of these include increased number of work hours, job
site utilities, and equipment rentals (Cox). Because of this increase in price, the state of California has
tried to match federal funding with private investors. This, however, has been a slow and uncertain
process. Another overestimation on the side of the CAHSR is in train times. Cox argues that the
CHSRA s anticipated average speeds are not being achieved anywhere in the world, even on the most
advanced lines. He also states that the HSR would be unattractive to drivers in middle distance
automobile markets because little or no door to door time savings would be achieved and costly local
connections would often be required (rental cars or taxicabs). California lacks the extensive local
transit infrastructure in the Central Valley that can be found in dense Asian and European areas; these
smaller connecting systems are what make the high speed rail so effective on other continents.
Without them, it is a lengthier process for consumers to get to their end destination they have to use
both the public transit and their own form of transportation. This could have a negative effect on
ridership because consumers will forego the hassle of changing transportation methods and

Gillan Clarke and the Flower fed Buffaloes by Lindsay In Lament by Gillian Clark, and The Flower

In Lament the poem is structured as a list of lamented people, places, and creatures hurt in the war.
Each stanza discusses a new idea based on the devastation of the world and her disapproval to war.

Budget Planning And Control Management
Budget Planning and Control
According to our text a budget is a formal written statement of management s plans for a specified
future time period, expressed in financial terms (Wiley, 2013). An effective budget gives a company
command and control over financial resources. It helps a company to plan and achieve their strategic
and organizational goals. There are many reasons for a company to prepare and manage a budget, such
as assisting with performance evaluations and identifying possible constraints and limitations.
The budget is an important basis for evaluating performance. It can provide benchmarks against which
to judge success or failure in reaching goals and facilitates timely corrective measures (Bragg, 2010).
Budgeting forms the baseline for a company s future performance. Managers create the budget
anticipating financial conditions and market expectations for future periods. These managers calculate
revenues and expenses for the period being budgeted. When the period reflected in the budget arrives,
the managers compare actual expenses to the budget numbers and evaluate the department s
performance (Bragg, 2010).
Another advantage of budgets is that they can be instrumental in identifying constraints and
bottlenecks. The earlier example of the power plant well illustrated this point. Efficient operation of
the power plant was limited by the supply of

The Italian Renaissance
People have lived here for thousands of years, even predating the roman empire and the etruscan and
greek civilizations. It all started around 1st century BC Italy was under control of one single power,
which was Rome until about the 5th century AD. During the 4th century the Etruscans are steadily
losing power to the romans. Who have recently been part of the Etruscan world and have bowed down
to the Etruscan kings for quite awhile. The romans gradually extended their rule through italy. By
42BC the all of italy is administered as Roman providence. The italian renaissance began in Tuscany,
which is centered in the city of florence. Then it later spread to the south having a huge impact on
Rome. This was later largely rebuilt by the renaissance popes. In 750 BC when the Etruscans
establishes the first civilization in italy. This was the region between the Arno and the Tiber. Italy isn t
an old nation at all. In fact, it s younger than the United States. The Italian Renaissance peaked in the
late 15th century as the foreign invasions took place in the region. During all the other periods of
prehistory and history the desire of this piece of land has been shared and fought over by numerous
rival groups. When the United States was still celebrating the Civil War in 1861, that s when Italy was

Music During The Civil War
Through out the years, music has developed and many genres have been created and have been
evolved. During the 1960s, music started to become louder. Drummers were required to hit their
drums and cymbals harder to fit the style of music (6). While jazz styles were still widely popular,
music was being created in a straight and loud feel, and it has remained that way to this very day (7).
Many modern drummers have taken the influences of drummers from the early 20th century and they
are using it in music today. With all this development in styles of music, the drum kit evolved along
with them.
The Civil war was over. The former slaves were now free to play music and share their influences.

Breastfeeding Vs Bottle Feeding Essay
Mothers around the world have a common goal, to give their babies the best of everything. All
mothers want their babies to have the best chances at life to thrive and survive. When a new mother
has had her baby, the next question usually is will you breastfeed or bottle feed your baby? For some,
that might be a very easy decision and for others it will be a complicated issue as it s a decision that
has to be made early. For mothers in Africa, the choice is particularly hard, especially if they have
AIDS. These mothers risk much more than most moms to give their babies the best chance of survival.
Information is not easy to come by to educate these women in their choices. Infection can still be
passed on, antibiotics have to be given and food is still scarce but formula is so expensive that it often
cannot be considered because money is not available for that big of a purchase. Breastfeeding is the
best tool a mother can give a baby.
Breastfeeding is the most natural inclination a baby is born with. They are born knowing it is what
they need. That does not always mean it is the easiest thing to learn between mother and baby as they
both have to find a way that works for them. Hardwiring is a term that neuroscientists use to refer to
reflexes and instincts that are built in to you and your baby s bodies and brains.... what this means is

This allows the baby to be slowly weaned if the mother chooses to not continue nursing. Because of a
food and water shortage in Africa, breastfeeding the baby for as long as a mother can, allows the baby
to still receive nutrients and antibodies from the mother to help them fight off diseases that plague
children. Children face malnutrition, malaria, diarrhea, measles, and pneumonia and the longer the
mother can breastfeed the better chances her baby has to build up their immune

Some People Paint Bodies
Instead of painting on canvas like many other artists, tattoo artists paint onto human skin, engraving
their client s bodies with something meaningful. As once said by Sylvia Plath, Wear your heart on
your skin in this life (qtd. in Goodreads). Tattoos are a work of art that are unique unto themselves
because the ink goes directly onto human skin, and stays there for as long it may stay intact. Tattooing
is an art of expression that is thousands of years old in which misjudged artists create stories onto
human skin, and they are content doing so. Since the beginning, tattooing has been used for many
purposes all around the world. The art of tattooing has been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

A tragic event, such as the loss of a loved one, can inspire one to find a way to remember them. In a
personal interview with Arjeta Batri, she described her tattoo of angel wings on her upper back. In the
middle of the wings, her late brother s name is written in eye catching cursive. Others may get tattoos
for happy memories, such as a wedding date. John DiGorgio has a tattoo of his initals in elaborate
cursive on his wrist. He was known as JD amongst his teammates while he played for the Buffalo
Bulls. JD on his wrist signifies a golden period in his life, one of the most positive time frames of his
life one that he wants to remember quite permanently. Carrie Granitz has a tattoo of the American
Sign Language symbol for the phrase I love you on her wrist for her daughter that is hearing impaired.
It is not a sign of loss or even a specific memory, but instead a symbol of her love for her daughter.
Sometimes, on fun evenings with family and friends, people get heavily intoxicated and make
profound decisions to mark themselves that will remind them of the night they had. Tattoos also tend
to follow pop culture. When Nichole Richie first showed off her rosary around her ankle, women
everywhere flocked to their nearest tattoo parlors to have one similar, if not identical, engraved into
their skin (Moore). Friendship bracelets are becoming a thing of the pas with celebrities

Tadamori In The Night Attack Of Courtiers Hall
In The Night Attack of Courtiers Hall , Tadamori is depicted as a resourceful warrior. He is thoughtful
of every move made and is very quick to respond to threats to defend himself and his reputation at all
costs. Tadamori s status as a warrior and his pride is much more important to him than his role in the
palace. This is shown when he thinks to himself I am not a civil functionary (McCullough 24), which
is ironic since as a governor, he has a responsibility to the people of Bizen and Tajima, making him a
functionary. However, Tadamori keeps his word to defend himself at the Gosechi Flushed Faces

Hawai I Research Paper
I have a full Japanese first name, and I go by a shortened, Americanized version. My first name means
nothing in Japanese, and it s old fashioned, like Barbara or Margaret or Greta. Fashionable for a
decade or so, and now painfully outdated. My middle name is Hawai ian and is a suffix attached to the
names of female royalty, and it means heaven or sky.
I am 100% full blooded Japanese. Allegedly my father s side of the family is descended from samurai
and land owning barons, while my mother s side has a hazier history. I like to call myself half royalty
half peasant, because it sounds romantic but not because there s any basis in truth. I was born in
Honolulu, Hawai i in January 1992, which makes me currently 20 years old. We lived there until I was
about 4, and until we moved to the mainland I spoke only Japanese. I jokingly ... Show more content

Really? they say. But you look so different! The fact that I am tan, with wavy hair and a decidedly not
stick figure physically distinguishes me from my Japanese brethren, even my own family. I ve been
asked if I was part Korean, Chinese, Mexican, Filipina, and probably lots of other things. Nope, full
Japanese here.
I still speak Japanese. In addition to Japanese, I speak Spanish with some fluency and French on a
very basic conversational level. I currently study Italian. I hope to conquer German next. My voice in
each of these languages is different. In Japanese, I am demure. In English, rough and irreverent. In
Spanish and French I am sure I sound childish, and I don t think I sound like anything other than a
complete beginner in Italian. I adopt new languages like personas.
I have tattoos, but I avoid talking about them too much because I m afraid of diminishing their value. I
don t mind being asked about them, but I would prefer nobody in the world asked. I like my piercings,
but as I grow up I might start removing them. Having as many as I do looks pretty

Dear Joel Manby
I was shocked by the way Seaworld cover the true of the dead of Dawn Brancheau recently
documented.I am frustrated by the way Seaworld is exposing people to danger of death or injury and
keeping Blackfish in captivity without the freedom they should have living with their families in the
ocean.
Keeping whales in captivity is so cruel that the whales became erratic and could kill people. Ms
Brancheau s death demostrates that close contact with killer whales is a hazard likely to cause death or
serious injury additionally osha found that Seaworld had violated the general duty of clause of
occupational safety and healthy exposing trainers to recognized hazards when they are working in

Essay on Falklands War
Falklands War As soon as the war ended people wondered why Britain had won and why Argentina
had lost. The conclusion made by the Americans is that it was that shifts in tactics, or weather may
have changed the result of the war, but it would seem that Britain s training and leadership did decide
the outcome. It is clear that the 25,000 men of the task force that sailed from Portsmouth in April 1982
were one of the most experianced, and certainly best trained forces that Britain had ever sent to war.
Everyone who was sent to the Falkland s, from sailors to fighter pilots knew what his job was and
therefore carried it out in the correct way that he was trained to do. Aswell as this the Brits ... Show

The first option was possible for the Argentines, and as the task force closed into the firing zone it
appeared as if the Argentine Navy was moving against them with Exocet firing frigates. The loss of
the General Belgrano effectively eliminated this threat, and the frigates were withdrawn and never
closed again. This left two options, to sink the carriers, submarines or the Exocet. Both of which had
been attempted previously. The Argentines had four submarines at the outbreak of the war but had lost
one when South Georgia was recaptured in April. The remaining subs faced having to get close
enough to within torpedo range of a fleet, whose objective was anti submarine, and had the best
training and weapons to defend against this type of threat. Still, the Argentine submarines did sail and
apparently launched torpedoes, although they did no harm to the British aircraft carriers. The
Argentine submarine threat, although providing a constant problem to British generals, were destined
to remain only a cause of thought to Admiral Woodward. The launching of an exocet was attempted
on several occasions but the problem of the radar guided missiles meant

The Republic, By Plato
In Plato s book, The Republic , there are many examples of rhetoric. In regards to the controversial
topic of women and eugenics in which Plato is almost forced into mentioning because of Adeimantus
and Glaucon, he uses various rhetorical statements to portray his view on the matter. His readers
believe women should be equal, so Plato attempts to persuade his readers into thinking he believes the
same. For example, in the passage on women and family Plato states, we shall assign these to each
accordingly; but if the only difference apparent between them is that the female bears and the male
begets, we shall not admit that this is the difference relevant for our purpose, but shall still maintain
that our male and female Guardians ought to follow the same occupations (164). He uses the women
are equal and can do the same things as men strategy in order to make Athenian men understand what
he is trying to say while still stroking their egos by using rhetoric. Men are in general are hard to
persuade when it comes to power, so as a result Plato gives a sense of gender equality while at the
same time still giving men the upper hand. Now let us take a look into the background of the story.
Plato gives his ideals on a perfect society and everything it should include. He basically implies that
justice is rightness, and rightness is whatever he feels it should be. He breaks society down into
guardians, wage earners, and auxiliaries. Wage earners are people such as surgeons or

The Life of Galileo Galilei
Galileo Galilei is considered one of the greatest scientists of all time. He was an Italian
mathematician, astronomer, and philosopher who very strongly supported Copernicanism, which is the
idea that the earth orbits the sun. It was hard to advocate Copernicanism because it was a very
controversial idea during that time. Galileo was a leader in the Scientific Revolution. He made
discoveries in the sciences of motion, astronomy, and strength of materials. In motion, his famous
scientific discoveries were circular inertia, law of falling bodies and parabolic path of projectiles. In
mathematics, he changed philosophy from a verbal explanation to a mathematical one in which
experimentation was a method for discovering facts of nature. In astronomy, he revolutionized
telescope and made way for the recognition of the Copernican heliocentric system. Galileo changed
the world forever. Galileo s childhood was full of schooling and studying. Galileo was born in Pisa,
Italy, on February 15, 1564. Galileo, the oldest child in the family, was born to Guilia Ammannati, and
Vincenzo Galilei, who was a great musician. When Galileo was eight, he moved to Florence. He went
to the monastery school at Vallombrosa in his teens. Galileo later studied at University of Pisa, where
he was supposed to study being a doctor, but instead he was captivated with math and decided to make
math and philosophy his job, against his father s will. Even though he was very young, Galileo

York Academy of Medicine created digital surrogates for several items in their collection, hosted

small organization, and somewhat new to managing digital collections, much of their current focus for
their digital collection is to support access and re use in the near term future. They have not yet been

How Is Music Used In The Joker
Music plays an important role in a films experience. It is significant in films because it sets the tone as
well as enhances the film in many different aspects. It is meant to engage the audience and evoke
emotion from them. The Dark Knight is arguably the best movie within the Batman Trilogy by
Christopher Nolan. Simply put the film is just epic. Yes the action is great and the late Heath Ledger s
portrayal of The Joker is superb, but it s the film s original score from Hans Zimmer and James
Newton Howard that gives The Dark Knight it s grand feeling. The movies opening scene starts off
with the track Why So Serious . This track is used for almost every scene The Joker is present in The
Dark Knight. The sound is strange and gives an uneasy feel which matches perfectly with the type of
character The Joker is, unpleasant. It has the effect that it makes us ... Show more content on

The first scene being the action packed tunnel chase that ended with the joker being captured. The
other scene is when The Joker has escaped from prison. The silence begins in a slow motion scene that
shows The Joker in the back seat of a cop car with his head out of the window, smiling, after we have
just heard a Commissioner Gordon pretty much say that the Joker has outsmarted the entire police
force, politicians, and everyone in the city. This moment is strong. It is a moment that just stops, and
portrays how much beyond normal intellect the Joker is. It gives us the opportunity to stop a second
during the movie and notice all the issues about the Joker. It is a personal moment of conquest for him.
Christopher Nolan is trying to hint that the Joker says a lot of true things in the film. He leaves you
almost one hundred percent incapable of disagreeing with him. The silence in this scene proves itself
most dramatic and would have been less effective with music in my

  • 2. Salton Sea Research Paper From being a resort area filled with numerous yachts, the Salton Sea has become an abandoned destination since the late 20th century. The Salton Sea was created by accident; with an exponential increase in precipitation, water diverted from the Colorado River to Imperial Valley creating the Salton Sea. Through its early years, the Salton Sea was a tourist attraction. It was an inland sea, allowing the public to ride boats and fish. Soon after, the Imperial Valley needed a drainage lake, and the federal government permitted the Salton Sea to be utilized for this specific purpose. Salton Sea became a lake where residues from fertilizers as well as pesticides such as DDT fertilizers and hazardous chemicals were dumped into without any regulation. ... • 4. A Humanitarian Crisis In Syria What comes to mind when you hear a country is going through a humanitarian crisis? Perhaps destruction, genocide, surveillance, propaganda, civilians not having a voice, and much more. This is what happened in the city of Aleppo in Syria. Aleppo was one of the oldest city with marvelous medieval architecture, rich cultural history, and its popularity in tourism. Aleppo was an open museum and a home to two and half million people, but all of that was lost in the Battle of Aleppo. Syria is ruled by the dictator Bashar al Assad and has been in power for seventeen years. Assad restricted Syrian civilians from freedom of speech and according to CNN gave the government broad power to detain people for perceived threats to national security (CNN). ... In September 2015 Russa became involved backing Assad s soldiers and pounding rebel groups with airstrikes repeatedly. Moreover, reports of civilian massacres at the hands of Assad s soldiers quickly filter out the city. The neighborhoods are destroyed making it very difficult to live there, but some people have nowhere to go and have no choice but to stay. Kids are wandering the city while explosions are going off every few seconds. In the Vice episode Assad s Syria Isabella the interviewer comes across three men sitting play a game and she find it rather weird that they had not left yet, but the men said they have nowhere else to go. She also asked if they were scared because she was wearing a bullet vest and they were just sitting in their normal clothes. • 7. The Limits Of Growth ( Tltg ) Introduction At the time it was written, The Limits to Growth (TLTG) was groundbreaking in its modeling, analysis and subsequent predictions of future trends. It is a policy paper pushing for sustainable development, coupled with technological modernisation. This essay will examine TLTG through an ecocentric lens. First, this paper will briefly summarise ecocentrism. Second, it will discuss TLTG and its findings in a contemporary context. It will be argued that TLTG ultimately failed in its ambition, because it utilised a discourse system that did not address key systematic causes of resource depletion. TLTG recognises human s overconsumption and disregard for the Earth s finite resources as a cause of exponential growth. However, it very much focuses on the survival of people rather than the Earth s intrinsic value. An ecocentric perspective argues that each fragment of the Earth has an intangible value and should be treated accordingly; a concept that TLTG does not address. An ecocentric perspective has the propensity to halt the over exploitation that occurs at such an alarming rate. Ecocentrism should be applied on a systemic, domestic and individual level to avoid the Earth s further degradation. Indeed, this would require the re structuring of capitalism. Subsequently, a seemingly radical and alternative discourse system is needed to dominate policy documents such as TLTG. This essay does not suggest that ecocentric perspectives would be successful in creating ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Dartmouth College Case Summary The case that Richard N. Current describes in The Dartmouth College Case, is the four year prolonged Trustees of Dartmouth v. Woodward dispute between a private college and the state legislature of New Hampshire. In 1769, King George III of England granted a charter to Dartmouth College which spelled out the purpose of the school, set up the structure to govern it, and gave land to the college ( Key Supreme Court Cases ). The private college was established and funded by a self perpetuating board of trustees without government interference ( Dartmouth College Case ). However, the legislature of New Hampshire became involved when certain people, among other reasons, wished to revise the charter...[and change] the school from private to public ( Key Supreme Court ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The college strained itself to obtain funds for the case and requested the familiarity and spirit to argue the case from Daniel Webster. He only agreed to represent the college in Washington along with a famous Baltimore lawyer, Joseph Hopkinson, on account for a thousand dollars. After successfully hiring Webster and Hopkinson, the two set out their brief which outlined the three ways the legislators of New Hampshire had gone beyond their rightful powers (Current 25). Firstly, the legislature took away the vested rights reserved in the charter for the trustees; something only the courts were legally bound to do (Current 25). Secondly, a legislative act could not take the place of the common law of the land and deprive a person of their property under the constitution of New Hampshire (Current 26). Lastly, the legislators also violated the Constitution of the United States, which provided that no state should pass any law impairing the obligation of contracts (Current ... • 9. The Film Twelve Angry Men Which Was Produced In 1957,... The film Twelve Angry Men which was produced in 1957, demonstrates how a jury room took place in the 1950 s. The whole film except the first few minutes of it, takes place in a jury room without air conditioning. It demonstrates how steamy and tense things can get between jurors when it comes to deliberating a case. It is apparent that the theme of this film is justice. Why should this 18 year old boy who could possibly be innocent, receive the death penalty when he still has a whole life ahead of him? The jurors deliberated on the trial of a first degree murder case of this young boy who was accused of stabbing and killing his father. Their opinions are expressed and all evidence is presented in order to conclude the verdict of the boy. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This was when the film becomes interesting. The argument of the film is the jurors deliberating whether the boy is guilty. After juror number 8 stated the boy could be innocent, the other jurors were stubborn and kept insisting to send the boy to the chair. The fact that all the other jurors assumed that the boy was guilty was quite unfair. This was when the major conflict arose in the film, when all but one juror disagreed with the punishment which then forced them to discuss the case. Since juror number 8 didn t agree with the rest of the jurors, he had to support his claim with the evidence that was presented. He talked about the evidence that was collected from the crime. Some of the evidence is strong and makes sense. Juror number 8 made several good points and one of them was that it was not possible for the old man to have heard the yell. The juror claimed that the old man had poor hearing and there was a train that passed by the house around the same time the killing occurred. Therefore, how was it possible for the yell to have been heard? This evidence relates to the rest of the evidence collected. The old man was not a good witness to the case and so the juror had to continue to state the rest of the evidence in order to convince the other men that the boy was not guilty. Another strong point that the writer made in this film is the physical evidence that was used in the case. There was not much ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

President Kennedy and Governor Connally have been shot, both fighting for their lives, but the question is who shot him, and where was it from? They enter all the tall buildings surrounding Dealey Plaza, but one employee from The School Depository Building is missing; his name was Lee Harvey Oswald. The choices we face on a day to day basis range from getting out of bed and starting our day, to investing our hard earned money into buying a new car or house. We make so many choices in just one day and most of the time we don t even ponder the decisions we end up making. Recently, in the past year, after being involved in an automobile accident I was faced with, what seemed to be a very big decision. Compare And Contrast The Body Vs Stand By Stephen King James Chacha Mr St. John and Mrs. Herron English 10 03 April 2016 The Body vs. Stand by Me Did you know that Stand by Me a academy award winning film directed by Rob Steiner was based of a novel called The Body by Stephen King ? In fact in both the novel and film the plot is the same but there are some small changes. The plot is about four twelve year olds who embark into a journey to discover the body of Ray Brower. During their journey each boy learns something extraordinary about themselves and about there friends. The main conflict in the novel is that there is another group of older boys who are also searching for the body. The novel was released in 1982 and the film was released in 1986. Even though the film was amazing there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the novel the setting of the story takes place in a small town named Castle Rock that is located in Maine in the year 1960 and in the film the setting is Castle Rock, Oregon in 1959. This difference would be considered a minor change because it is only one year apart from the original date in the novel and the change of the state does not really matter. Adding to differences is that in the novel in chapter seven there is a story that is told by Gordie called Stud City in the film it is not shown or mentioned. This would be considered a major change because the story shows how smart and mature Gordie is for a twelve year old and it is important for the build up of the character but it is excluded from the film. Another difference is that in the novel when the boys find the body and they confront the other boys Chris pulls the gun out to make them leave. In the film it is Gordie who takes out the gun to make them leave. This is a major change because in the novel it helped make the ending make more sense and helped Chris buildup as a character. In addition to differences in the novel when the boys are on there journey they go into the pond to swim because they want to. In the film they go into the pond because they have to in order to get across. This isn t considered a major change because it doesn t affect the plot in any way. • 13. The Death Of Robespierre, Leader Of The Jacobins Essay Marat was sitting in his bathtub, he received a visitor by the name of Charlotte Corday, who had been refused admittance earlier in the day. She claimed to have vital information on escaped Girondins and proceeded to list off the names of the missing Girondins. After he had finished writing out the list, Corday claimed that he told her, It will not be long before they are guillotined , a statement she later changed at her trial to, I will shortly have them all guillotined in Paris . With that statement, Corday retrieved a knife she had brought and plunged it into his chest. Marat cried out in agony saying Aidez moi, ma chère amie! ( Help me, my dear friend! ) and died. After Marat s death, Maximilien Robespierre, leader of The Jacobins, was appointed as the head of The Committee of Public Safety on July 27, 1793. Although Robespierre was a bourgeoisie, he identified with the plight of the sans culottes and would become their voice as the revolution progressed. It was because of this representation that he would become a prominent figure at the most radical point in the revolution. He defended the principle that the rights of man should extend to all men including the poor, and the slaves in the colonies. Beginning in the spring of 1792 and forward, France was in an upheaval. The country was involved in foreign wars, civil war and revolt. While revolutionaries were planning a new government without the king, counter revolutionaries were plotting the ... It highlights the process and theories of acquiring second languages among learners. Second language acquisition seeks to understand the development of second language acquisition among second language learners. Mastering the knowledge of second language acquisition helps teachers to successfully provide effective teaching for students. Undeniably, knowledge on second language acquisition is very much related to effective teaching of second languages. Many linguists and teacher educators believe that all language teachers should be equipped with knowledge of second language acquisition to help them teach effectively. Additionally, most teacher training programmers have incorporated second language acquisition as a compulsory course to make sure that all future language teachers are well equipped with enough knowledge to teach in classroom. Then again, the relationship between second language acquisition and effective second language teaching is still being discussed. Hence, this paper aims to explain ways in which knowledge of second language acquisition helps language teachers to provide a better and effective second language teaching in classrooms by highlighting three main ideas; knowledge of second language acquisition helps teachers to understand the different needs of students, to design a good second language course and effective teaching method for learners, and to ... Expressing the outstanding development, Karl Marx wrote in 1846 that without cotton you have no modern industry. For Marx, the relationship between cotton and slavery was similarly unambiguous: Without slavery, you have no cotton. (1) Cotton came to America from England industrial development. Cotton, a shrubby plant, thrives in warm climates just suitable for South regions and couldn t be grown in the North, because the climate was too cold. (2) Early in the seventeenth century, agriculture in the American South was dominated by staples or money crops products (tobacco, then rice, indigo, and sugar) that fetched a high price in the marketplaces of Europe; finally came cotton, the king of them all. (3) By 1860, cotton dominated the American economy. The South exported 66 percent of the world s supply, and cotton made up more than half of the supply with almost 90 percent of cotton grown in the South. Much of Southern society had become dependent upon a cotton culture and the institution of slavery. (4) ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. Persuasive Essay On Happiness We live in America, a country that is rather prosperous in comparison to many other countries in the world. In order to get to where this country is today wars were started, people enslaved, and countries exploited. The greater majority s happiness was derived from another humans suffering. This has occurred throughout the majority of human history and continues into today s society. While we may see this as the wrong way to live we don t mind sustaining our prosperity. Just as Jesus Christ suffered for the sake of humanity s sins, much of what gives us happiness unmistakably generates affliction around the globe. Just as every action has an equal or opposite reaction, every choice has a repercussion whether we know it or not. Our world is reminiscent of a yin yang symbol, the white side representing our happiness and the black side the pain and suffering that got us there. By choosing our advantage over what is right, staying ignorant, and entanglement in consumerism our happiness is the offspring of despair somewhere in the world. We are all guilty of encountering happiness that was in some way the byproduct of someone s suffering. Whether we realize it or not does not mean we are not guilty of the same sin. For example, I went to a job interview a few months ago and there were two other gentlemen that were far more qualified than me interviewing as well. We all needed and wanted the job equally although the job was granted to me because I knew a general manager at the company. I chose success in exchange for the other gentlemen suffering a declined job offer. A lot of the time we don t even realize the suffering that our decisions cause or that suffering even occurred. America has been at war for nearly half of its existence to protect our rights and liberty. While we are safe and happy within our own borders both our soldiers and the country we are fighting are suffering immensely. For many years America endorsed slavery as free labor to create a happier society for white people. In these examples, many people are suffering for the sake of the America or particular race s happiness. While much of this is uncontrollable for the majority we still have to face the facts that our happiness ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. Federal Funding And Private Investors specified in Proposition 1A. However, as time passes, the initial estimate is beginning to look like a low ball. The construction process has taken longer than expected up until this point, and that has many direct and indirect costs associated. Some of these include increased number of work hours, job site utilities, and equipment rentals (Cox). Because of this increase in price, the state of California has tried to match federal funding with private investors. This, however, has been a slow and uncertain process. Another overestimation on the side of the CAHSR is in train times. Cox argues that the CHSRA s anticipated average speeds are not being achieved anywhere in the world, even on the most advanced lines. He also states that the HSR would be unattractive to drivers in middle distance automobile markets because little or no door to door time savings would be achieved and costly local connections would often be required (rental cars or taxicabs). California lacks the extensive local transit infrastructure in the Central Valley that can be found in dense Asian and European areas; these smaller connecting systems are what make the high speed rail so effective on other continents. Without them, it is a lengthier process for consumers to get to their end destination they have to use both the public transit and their own form of transportation. This could have a negative effect on ridership because consumers will forego the hassle of changing transportation methods and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Explore the ways in which the poet vividly conveys aspects of nature and society in Lament by Gillan Clarke and the Flower fed Buffaloes by Lindsay In Lament by Gillian Clark, and The Flower fed Buffaloes by Lindsay there is a broad theme focusing on the damage to nature done by man kind. In Lament the poem is structured as a list of lamented people, places, and creatures hurt in the war. Each stanza discusses a new idea based on the devastation of the world and her disapproval to war. Throughout The Flower Fed Buffaloes , Vachel Lindsay tries by imagery to make the threat of destruction to the natural environment critical for the reader. • 19. Budget Planning And Control Management Budget Planning and Control According to our text a budget is a formal written statement of management s plans for a specified future time period, expressed in financial terms (Wiley, 2013). An effective budget gives a company command and control over financial resources. It helps a company to plan and achieve their strategic and organizational goals. There are many reasons for a company to prepare and manage a budget, such as assisting with performance evaluations and identifying possible constraints and limitations. The budget is an important basis for evaluating performance. It can provide benchmarks against which to judge success or failure in reaching goals and facilitates timely corrective measures (Bragg, 2010). Budgeting forms the baseline for a company s future performance. Managers create the budget anticipating financial conditions and market expectations for future periods. These managers calculate revenues and expenses for the period being budgeted. When the period reflected in the budget arrives, the managers compare actual expenses to the budget numbers and evaluate the department s performance (Bragg, 2010). Another advantage of budgets is that they can be instrumental in identifying constraints and bottlenecks. The earlier example of the power plant well illustrated this point. Efficient operation of the power plant was limited by the supply of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Drummers were required to hit their drums and cymbals harder to fit the style of music (6). While jazz styles were still widely popular, music was being created in a straight and loud feel, and it has remained that way to this very day (7). All mothers want their babies to have the best chances at life to thrive and survive. When a new mother has had her baby, the next question usually is will you breastfeed or bottle feed your baby? For some, that might be a very easy decision and for others it will be a complicated issue as it s a decision that has to be made early. For mothers in Africa, the choice is particularly hard, especially if they have AIDS. These mothers risk much more than most moms to give their babies the best chance of survival. Information is not easy to come by to educate these women in their choices. Infection can still be passed on, antibiotics have to be given and food is still scarce but formula is so expensive that it often cannot be considered because money is not available for that big of a purchase. Breastfeeding is the best tool a mother can give a baby. Breastfeeding is the most natural inclination a baby is born with. They are born knowing it is what they need. It is clear that the 25,000 men of the task force that sailed from Portsmouth in April 1982 were one of the most experianced, and certainly best trained forces that Britain had ever sent to war. Both of which had been attempted previously. The Argentines had four submarines at the outbreak of the war but had lost one when South Georgia was recaptured in April. The remaining subs faced having to get close enough to within torpedo range of a fleet, whose objective was anti submarine, and had the best training and weapons to defend against this type of threat. • 29. The Republic, By Plato In Plato s book, The Republic , there are many examples of rhetoric. In regards to the controversial topic of women and eugenics in which Plato is almost forced into mentioning because of Adeimantus and Glaucon, he uses various rhetorical statements to portray his view on the matter. His readers believe women should be equal, so Plato attempts to persuade his readers into thinking he believes the same. For example, in the passage on women and family Plato states, we shall assign these to each accordingly; but if the only difference apparent between them is that the female bears and the male begets, we shall not admit that this is the difference relevant for our purpose, but shall still maintain that our male and female Guardians ought to follow the same occupations (164). He uses the women are equal and can do the same things as men strategy in order to make Athenian men understand what he is trying to say while still stroking their egos by using rhetoric. Men are in general are hard to persuade when it comes to power, so as a result Plato gives a sense of gender equality while at the same time still giving men the upper hand. Now let us take a look into the background of the story. Plato gives his ideals on a perfect society and everything it should include. He was an Italian mathematician, astronomer, and philosopher who very strongly supported Copernicanism, which is the idea that the earth orbits the sun. It was hard to advocate Copernicanism because it was a very controversial idea during that time. Galileo was a leader in the Scientific Revolution. He made discoveries in the sciences of motion, astronomy, and strength of materials. In motion, his famous scientific discoveries were circular inertia, law of falling bodies and parabolic path of projectiles. In mathematics, he changed philosophy from a verbal explanation to a mathematical one in which experimentation was a method for discovering facts of nature. In astronomy, he revolutionized telescope and made way for the recognition of the Copernican heliocentric system. Galileo changed the world forever. Galileo s childhood was full of schooling and studying. Galileo was born in Pisa, Italy, on February 15, 1564. Galileo, the oldest child in the family, was born to Guilia Ammannati, and Vincenzo Galilei, who was a great musician. When Galileo was eight, he moved to Florence.
