Mambouna During The Industrial Revolution
A general strike in Dakar, with the exception of railway workers, guaranteed wage increases, family
allowances for government workers, the recognition of unions, the expansion of wage hierarchies, and
bonuses for seniority. (Aurora Munoz) Several important changes drove the members of the Railway
Workers Union to lead to a memorable strike. The railways had been transferred to a parastatal group,
which means that it was now owned wholly by the government. This changed meant that the railroad
workers could no longer benefit from the status of civil servants. The parastatal group was set up in a
hierarchical fashion. At the bottom of the pyramid were mostly Africans, meaning they receive fewer
benefits than everyone else. Most of the African ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Everyone classifies her in the novel as a slut because she is a prostitute, but it has its benefits. Her
character is unique because she is outspoken but sets goals for herself and pursues them. She is a born
leader and a force to be reckoned with. Lahbib said, She kept the women in line, and she forced even
the men to respect her. (Ousmane 143) When one of the workmen had stupidly patted her on the
behind, she gave him a resounding smack. A woman slapping a man in public was something no one
had ever seen before. (Ousmane 143) What makes Penda s character so interesting is that she
possesses the qualities of both Maimouna and Ramatoulaye, two other important figures in the novel.
She is a genuine loving and caring person like Maimouna but stands up for justice like Ramatoulaye.
Penda obtained these qualities for a while. From her earliest childhood she had demonstrated a
resolute independence which only increased as she grew up. As a young girl she had seemed to
develop a hatred for men and had turned away everyone who had wanted to marry her. (Ousmane 138)
Penda can be described as a

Investigating Hooke s Law And The Euler Bernoulli Bending...
In this lab, deflection and strain are measured in an attempt to confirm Hooke s law and the Euler
Bernoulli bending beam theory. In addition, the measured data allows us to calculate the modulus of
elasticity (Young s Modulus) or E of the cantilever beam. Through the course of the experiment our
observations revealed that the addition of weights deformed the beam in response to the applied stress.
This deformation can be modeled using the Euler Bernoulli beam bending theory. Our
experimentation and calculations revealed that our data did indeed prove the theories mentioned in
this lab. Furthermore, our values for the modulus of elasticity or E came within the range of
established values found online.
Engineering involves a wide array of problems that must be overcome. A great deal of time is spent
researching materials and their properties. Materials compromise all aspects of our society, from
buildings to roads to even the equipment that was used in this lab. Problems arise in regards to how
strong or flexible the material is, with the official terms being stress, strain, and elasticity. Improper
use of such materials results in tragedies such as the Tacoma Narrows Bridge in Washington that failed
to due resonance and stress beyond its elastic limit [1].
This lab teaches us the importance of stress, strain, and elasticity. Their relationships are explored
through the deformation of a cantilever beam. Stress is introduced as weights and the beams
experiences strain.

Duckweed Grow Lab Report
Overall, it is recognizable that excess nutrients do have major effects on water ecosystems, showcased
within the three samples. By the end of the experiment, the samples differed vastly. In the high
sample, most, if not all, organisms had died off from harmful levels of the provided nutrients. In the
low sample, plant growth thrived because there was just enough of the provided nutrients. In the
control sample, nothing major had changed other than the amount of duckweed, which was still acute.
It is apparent that eutrophication occurred more in the low sample compared to the other two.
The high sample received 6 8 drops of liquid miracle grow, which consists of nitrogen, phosphorus,
and potassium. Initially, it was predicted that this sample would serve as the one with the most life.
However, this was proven false. This sample shows profound levels of death and no growth
whatsoever. This is due to the fact that such excessive amounts of nutrients can serve as a toxic poison
to organisms. Over the course of the experiment, no additional duckweed growth was witnessed. In
fact, the few that were there originally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The changes in this sample are the most visually apparent among the others. Between November 22nd
and December 1st, algae growth skyrocketed, as shown by the dark green hue of the water. Moreover,
duckweed growth was rapid and abundant, specifically between December 1st and 6th. By the end of
the experiment, the entire surface on the container was blanketed by duckweed. This amount of
growth occured due to the fact that the amount of nutrients provided, that being of nitrogen,
phosphorus, and potassium, was just enough to provide sufficient nutrition for plant growth, and then
some. It hadn t reached the level of toxicity shown in the high sample, however. When examined
beneath the microscope, not much was visible other than copious amounts of

Symbolic Ethnicity Essay
Symbolic ethnicity is a term coined by Herbert Gans. It refers to ethnicity that is individualistic in
nature and without real social cost for the individual. These symbolic identifications are essentially
leisure time activities, rooted in nuclear family traditions reinforced by voluntary enjoyable aspects of
being ethnic (Gans 424 429). Symbolic ethnicity is practiced and enjoyed by white Americans. It is a
way for descendants of white Europeans to learn about and be proud of their heritage. That is not the
case for non whites who are grouped together by the white majority making ethnic identity difficult .
This type of ethnicity is rooted in immigrants of European descent. It could be the Feast of Saint
Anthony or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This creates a situation where Caribbean blacks who are steeped in heritage are typically unable to
partake in their own ethnic celebrations like their white counterparts. When Caribbean blacks arrive in
America, they attempt to distance themselves from the American black (Ogbu, J.U. 425 429). When a
black group attempts to celebrate its heritage, other groups march in order to disrupt these types of
celebrations. Every time a black organization wants to march or celebrate, the KKK or other white
supremacist group alternatively marches to cause conflict. When this type of celebration does take
place, it is typically limited locally to black neighborhoods with no media coverage. Asians are treated
in a similar fashion being grouped together as one nation. There are Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese,
Korean and Cambodian to name a few. These people when assimilated into American culture become
one group, Asian, which in many cases offers no opportunity to express their own national heritage or
culture in America. Grouping of these minorities puts all blacks whether American or otherwise and
Asians under the same umbrella and therefore dealing with the same stereotypes. These images

Anger descended on me so near in time to when I fell in love with Kraus s writing that the two

his skin complexity, he is not treated fairly and always being discriminated against. On one of his
usual nightly walks he encountered a white woman. She took a couple glances at him and soon began

This shows that he kept in mind how other people feel when they are around in a dark and late setting.
He also tries to lighten up the mood and make himself seem friendlier by whistling tunes from
classical music. I whistle melodies from Beethoven and Vivaldi and the more popular classical
composers (Staples 226). Whistling got people to feel calmer around him, for he writes, and
occasionally they even join in the tune (Staples 226). He changed the way he physically appeared to
be so that people would be less likely to put on a stereotype about African Americans on him. There
were various times I experienced people misjudging my shyness for being mean. The first time people
see me they think I am a mean person because the way I look. When I walk, I do not have smile on my
face so it looks like I am intimidating to talk to. Some were afraid to talk to me because they thought I
was stuck up. When people begin talking or starting to get to know me they realized that I am a really
nice and shy person. The first time I heard what others thought of me I was shocked because my
personality is the opposite of what they think. I do not take it personally because I am a nice person
once people get to know me. I felt bad because I do not mean to come off that way to others. The way
I reacted to it was to smile more at people and try not to look so intimidating. I tried to change how I

Analysis Of Sanford Meisner On Acting
In his book Sanford Meisner On Acting, Meisner teaches students in his class the techniques needed in
acting. The book is written in a way that is enjoyable to the reader because it is written in third person,
where an observer writes about what occurred in the class among Meisner and his students. In the
book, Meisner teaches the students about the importance of being genuine; they should stop
pretending and they should stop being polite. They should rather just do what feels genuine to them. I
liked that the book was written based on observed experiences and not just laying down the acting
techniques for readers to follow. By reading about the experiences, I felt as though I was in the class
with Meisner and this enabled me to understand the techniques better.
The first things that caught my eye from the book are the principles Meisner gives his students. On the
topic The Pinch and The Touch , he says, Don t do anything unless something makes you do it...what
you do doesn t depend on you: it depends on the other fellow (Meisner 34). He goes further to
illustrate the two principles by pinching John, one of his students, who reacts by shouting Mr.
Meisner! The principles caught my eye because I have heard my acting professor constantly tell us the
same thing. He always says that we should have an objective of why we are choosing to do a certain
action and our actions should be driven by what our partner does or says. I liked his way of illustrating
the principles

Analysis Of Violence In Stagecoach
As watching these movies from different time periods, I noticed one similar theme that stuck the
majority of the movies and that was violence shown in different types of communities. These
communities consist of The Pure Violence of the West depicted in Stagecoach, then the more subtle
violence within a family depicted in American Beauty and finally the hateful depiction of violence
shown in Do the Right Thing. Each of these movies are taken place in what we know as the Home, the
West and the City. The reason my choice of topic was to be Violence within communities was simple
because every movie had a certain level of violence and in these cases they show more and show a
different varieties of violence. So to get this started I would like to discuss each of these movies and
there depiction of violence within the communities before getting started. Starting off with the Pure
and deathly violence occurring in the Wild West in the classic Stagecoach. Stagecoach is a movie
about the wild west where a group of misfits are leaving town to head to a new area, but on the way to
this new promise land they are met with many bloody battles. Next, I would like to discuss the subtle
violence in the movie American Beauty which takes place within a small families home. The violence
in this movie is completely different than Stagecoach for the fact that it is violence within the structure
of a family and how that effects each members lives differently. The final movie which takes place in

This is due to various organizational shifts, as the design of the courses change every time a new
General takes command at Fort Lee and decisions based on lackluster after action reviews (AAR). The
POI for the SPCC does not reflect the change in scheduled location and needs to be updated, therefore,
a broad spectrum POI should be created and recommendations should be made in order to gain more
positive AARs. Project Description In support of my capstone project, I assessed and will submit a
redesigned proposal with developmental recommendations for reformation of a solid POI for the
SPCC that takes place at the Army Logistics University. In this, I have identified the foremost purpose
for this redesign as the following: The investment in the education and training of rising leadership is
vital to the long term success of our sustainment support staff and the services provided. With this
course providing training in modular force operations for newly selected command designees that
enables them to function effectively throughout their command tour it is very important to make sure
that the training is substantive. Therefore the main focus is to assure that training is current and
emerging sustainment doctrine and leadership topics for commanders on the National Guard,
Reservist and Active Duty levels is most essential. The target audience of this redesign includes
commissioned officers in grades 0 5 (Lieutenant Colonel) or 0 6

What Is Louis Riel A Martyr
Louis Riel is a martyr. The definition of a martyr is a person fighting for or against a cause in which
Riel has shown in the 2 resistances he has partaken and lead. On the other hand, a political martyr is
someone who struggles in execution. A treason is a horrible act towards a nation and a traitor is
someone who has done the act. Winners may deem the losers as traitors and sometimes execute them.
High treasons are assisting or starting a war against Canada. Metis leader, Louis Riel, main attention
in the Red River and North West resistance, is a martyr for these reasons. The first reason is that he,
himself struggled for the metis freedom. For there ways of life. For the things, others have done to
them. I m referring to the buffalo extinction. As soon as white settlers came to Manitoba and made the
railroad and used the hunt as a sport, the buffalo had a mass extinction causing the metis there home
and ways of life. Louis Riel just came back to Canada to help the Metis stop the settlers. He didn t

Honestly math came easy for me, mostly because I was taught to keep up with the tempo of the music.

Spirituality And Mysticism In Varanasi
Banaras is older than history, older than tradition, older even than legend, and looks twice as old as all
of them put together. Mark Twain
Benaras, Kashi or Varanasi, whatever it may be called, this city has been enthralling people from far
and wide, since ages. The spirituality and mysticism of Varanasi, epitomizes everything Indian in a
different and better way than many other cities. Though it is considered as one of the oldest living
cities of the world, yet it presents an incomparable blend of tradition and modernism existing side by

attracts the world to Varanasi.
With the aim to take the city along the path of growth, development and to showcase to the world that
Varanasi is much more than temples and ghats, I spent three weeks in Varanasi as a district attachment

Babe Ruth s Accomplishments

Gender Stereotypes In The Media
Gender stereotypes are everywhere. Even before we can understand what this means, people are
constantly exposed to them through advertisements, toys, clothes, and the media including television
shows and movies. To evaluate the prevalence of gender stereotypes in television programs targeted
towards young children, I chose to watch four different shows called Phineas and Ferb, Little
Einsteins, Horrid Henry, and Sofia the First. When picking what shows to watch, I intentionally
selected at least one that looked targeted towards boys, another that appeared to be targeted towards
girls, and finally one that seemed gender neutral. I also made sure to watch at least two episodes of
each program to determine whether the themes I observed were ... Show more content on

During this process, however, only one girl is ever included. In fact, I paused the show during a scene
when the friends were riding the rollercoaster, and counted 11 boys in compared to only one girl.
The second show I evaluated was a cartoon called Little Einsteins. This show features a group of four
friends, two boys and two girls, who go on a different adventure in each episode, usually in pursuit of
solving a specified problem. The problem in the first episode I watched was that one of the planet
Saturn s rings fell off and the group had to work together to try and return it back to space. This show,
in my opinion, had very little gender stereotyping, even with careful analysis as well as no violence. A
small aspect I did notice was that the two male characters were usually the ones to come up with
problem solving and heroic ideas while the girls were the ones asking questions like what are we
supposed to do? while more often scared in a problematic scenario. The physical appearances of the
characters also varied and I don t believe they were conforming to stereotypes, but instead, provided a
range of personalities and physical appearances that all types of kids could identify with. Prosocial
behavior is a big part of this show. This group of friends is constantly trying to solve problems that
benefit others, while not receiving anything beneficial themselves. For example, when the friends
decided to return Saturn s lost ring back to

My Favorite Incarnation Of Star Trek
Jung and the Archetypes: The Enemy Within
Whoever the hero may be, he or she journeys for us, carries us metaphorically into our darker side,
[...] where the monsters inside of us take on terrifyingly real forms, where our deepest wishes
sometimes are fulfilled. (Leeming 203, 204).
I ve always been drawn to hero quests. One of my favorites is Star Trek, though it isn t a typical hero
quest. The stories of each incarnation of Star Trek are thought provoking explorations of the human
psyche on both societal and individual levels, often taking on contemporary social issues and setting
them in the future with aliens playing the part of the good guys almost as often as they are the villains.
My favorite incarnation of Star Trek is the original series, filmed in the late 1960s. The hero archetype
of this series is Captain James T. Kirk, who was both ordinary (born in Iowa) and extraordinary
(youngest Captain in Starfleet history). (Kirk). However, he was not necessarily always a good man;
he cheated on a test that was supposed to show the character of future commanders by how they
handle a no win scenario. (Kobayashi).
Many episodes explored Kirk s darker side, but one episode was very literal, The Enemy Within . The
following is a brief synopsis of the episode:
With his landing party stranded on a lethally cold planet, Kirk is split into two Kirks, one evil, and one
good. The good Kirk, weak because he lacks half of his persona, does not know that his evil Twin is

Intertwined with France s continual change to government and Republics is their culture of desiring a

war hero after the French revolution and the citizens of France believed he could be the savior that
France needed. Because of the hero worship culture in France, Napoleon was given dictatorial powers.
Additionally, the French citizens showed the yearning for a savior after World War Two when General

China has had twelve different constitutions since 1911. The most recent constitution came to be in
1982, and in theory it gives a serious amount of power to the National People s Congress (NPC). The
NPC is a group that is elected by the provincial people s assemblies who are in turn elected by
lowering ranking officials. The constitution states that the NPC is the highest Organ of state power .
The constitution also gives the NPC the power to amend the constitution; supervise its enforcement;
enact and amend laws; ratify and abrogate treaties; approve the state budget and plans for national
economic and social development; elect and impeach top officials of the state and judiciary; and
supervise the work of the State Council, the State Central Military Commission, the Supreme People s
Court, and the Supreme People s Procuratorate . However, in reality the NPC serves mostly as a
rubber stamp for Party decisions. One example of this is the NPC s right to elect party officials such as
the President and Vice President. Technically the NPC has these rights, it is the CPC that actually
appoints these positions and the NPC just simply agrees with the Party s decisions. A driving reason
that the NPC has so much theoretical power, yet does not have any power in reality is that many NPC
deputies are members of the CPC or are state officials or civil servants. China rejects the principle of
separation of power, and this allows for NPC deputies to hold positions in these other branches of
government. The NPC is designed to oversee the other branches of government that they are usually
in, therefore, many members of the NPC are overseeing themselves. According to a leading Chinese
media organization, 85% of the three thousand NPC members hold positions in other branches of the
government. That number clearly shows why the NPC does not use any of their power, because they

Gender dysphoria is a complex struggle between a person s physical gender and who he or she
identifies, and this could be an individual physically born as a male that identifies as being female and

identity is how the person feels or how they identify themselves, which is where the dysphoria comes

Arguments Against Animal Euthanasia
On an average year, approximately 2.7 million animals are euthanized in the United States ( Pet
Statistics ). Being that animal euthanasia is a horrible and selfish act, we should stop it and only allow
euthanasia of an animal if they are sick and will not heal or if they are suffering. Animal euthanasia
has been around for years and has been an easy way for a family to put down their precious pet that is
suffering. Killing an animal because they are a stray is not ethical. Stray animals, such as cat and dogs,
that are said to be mean, can be tamed to the point where they could have a new loving home. We, as
human beings, should not be killing innocent animals.
Many people wonder what animal euthanasia is and why it is done. According to an article called,
Animal Rights Compromised: Euthanasia , euthanasia is a sad reality caused by people who abandon
animals, refuse to sterilize their animals, and patronize pet shops and breeders instead of adopting
stray animals or animals from animal shelters ( Animal Rights Compromised: Euthanasia ). In a lot of
cases, animals have been abandoned by their owners. This may be because the owner does not want to
get them spayed or neutered and the animal keeps reproducing, ... Show more content on

It is selfish and, quite frankly, sickening. Animals should not be killed for any other reason than being

returned to their owner. Of the cats entering shelters, approximately 37% are adopted, 41% are

Resolving Internal And External Conflicts
Having the skills to resolve internal and external conflicts effectively is one of the biggest challenges
faced by organizations in today s business world. In most cases, to attain success in conflict issues,
mediators are needed. They are vital to success as they act as they act as neutral parties to analyze a
conflict by listening to both parties and coming up with a solution. The mediator is completely
impartial (neutral) person(s) who probably does not know either party, but will act as a middle man
that listens to both sides of the situation from the two and see if there is any middle ground
opportunities for some kind of arrangement, acceptable to both sides, which will in part or fully help
to resolve the situation. By so doing, a mediator functions as an intermediary. A mediator talks to
parties in separate rooms and never allows shouting or interruption from disputants facing each other.
In fact, often there is no need, allowing disputants to be in the same room at all. The role of the
mediator is to shuttle or go between the parties. However, this paper will describe a work related
conflict experience where a mediator was used to resolve the conflict, define the role of a mediator,
explain the types of data a mediator may choose to gather and analyze when conducting a session to
reduce or eliminate the conflict, assess how the information is utilized in a mediation plan by
providing a detailed example of each.

Why China s Fall Would Have On The Global Economy
Using the elements of PEST analysis as a framework discuss what impact you consider China s fall
would have on the global economy.
The Chinese economy can be viewed as the cornerstone of the global economy. The current global
GDP, measured in purchasing power parity of nearly 60%, as well as current international rate of
growth at more than 80%, is primarily accounted for by China and other neighbouring middle income
countries, such as India or Vietnam.[1] These numbers are significant in understanding our global
economy, which is widely interconnected through alliances of trade, laws and finance, thereby
affecting our daily lives politically, economically, socially and technologically.[2] With recent analysis
indicating that China s growth has declined to about 6.8% by the end of 2015[3], how would a crash in
China s economy affect the global market?
Following the 2008 2009 global economic crash, emerging markets like China with a rapid growth
rate were presumed to safeguard the larger economies of the European Union, Japan and the United
States. As China expanded its industrial revolution with an unprecedented annual growth rate and
increased international trade, many countries in particular Germany benefited economically. Germany
became one of China s main suppliers for technology that it required in order to produce goods, as
well as luxury products such as cars for the new money generation of entrepreneurs; Chinese buying
power currently makes up 6.6% of Germany s

Strawberries and Obesity
To the Editor, It is quite noticeable that obesity rates in the United States are continually rising. When
a person is obese, they have an increase risk to diseases such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease, various
cancers, etc. (Haslam James 2005). There are countless studies conducted to see the possible effects
obesity can cause to an individual. One study concluded, if two obese individuals have a child, that
child has a high percentage of being obese as well (Kolata 2007). Although there are different methods
to help individuals lose weight, there are different reasons for people not to lose the excess weight.
The most common responses for individual s not to lose weight are, I don t have time to go to the
gym, Workout DVD s are expensive, and Healthy and fresh foods are too expensive for me to buy.
Nevertheless, if there was only one fruit that could possibly help any individual s health dilemma(s),
that fruit should be strawberries. Studying the effects of what strawberries can do to an individual s
health is a relatively new study. Nonetheless, there was a study conducted in Oklahoma, to examine
the effects strawberries had on women who were obese and women who were healthy (Basu et al
2009). For four weeks, the study was preformed; the researchers had the women drink strawberry
flavonoids equivalent to amount of fresh fruit serving everyday (Basu et al 2009). Based off
observation, strawberries are have a beneficial cardiovascular effect on the women (Basu

Viable Alternative Energy For Replace Fossil Fuels
Viable Alternative Energy to Replace Fossil Fuels
Nauman Syed Zia
University of Houston
Nearly all of the United States production of energy comes from non renewable sources, also known
as fossil fuels. However, the problem with using fossil fuels to satisfy the United States ever growing
demand for power is that they are a limited resource and their production and usage cause a myriad of
harmful environmental effects. There are other sources of energy available that do not run out and are
much more environmentally friendly such as wind, solar and hydro power. The government should
take further action into transitioning from environmentally damaging non renewable fossil fuels to
cleaner and more permanent alternative ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Based of the origins of these fossil fuels, it is easy to see how incredibly slow the fossil fuel process is.
In fact, the process is so slow that regeneration is negligible. Continued use of these fossil fuels will
cause them to rapidly run out. Basically, when these fuels run out, they are gone forever. Its simply a
matter of time until the United States will need other sources of power, and it is a smart move to act
now on creating sustainable methods of energy rather than wait until the nation is forced to switch.
The attractive feature of using alternative energy such as wind, solar, and hydro power is the assurance
of renewability. There will always be naturally occurring winds, moving water, and radiation from the
sun that can be converted to energy. The United States government should invest its time and
resources into implementing these energy sources in order to secure sustainable energy. These
alternative energy sources are more environmentally appealing as they do not cause nearly as much
environmental damage that fossil fuels do. Aside from fossil fuel s long term non sustainability, the
United States should shift to renewable resources because of the detrimental effects fossil fuels pose to
the environment and people. The use of fossil fuels lead to an increase in air pollution, water
pollution, land pollution, and even global warming. During fossil fuel combustion, pollutants such as
carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides,

Sexism In The Workplace Essay
Some people say that sexism no longer exists in the workplace, yet only 19% of women are in a
presidential or chief position at work(Bomey ). Women are less likely to be hired for a job despite
having all the qualifications, women earn less than men, and women are continuously harassed in the
workplace. Despite the fact that women are capable to perform with the same skill and success as
men, the issue of gender discrimination still continues to rise( ). In society, sometimes it can be
difficult to recognize issues of sexism not only at work but in life. With the failure to realize gender
discrimination and harassment in the world, educating people on the issue of sexism can make the
workplace a success.
A majority of women aspire to obtain a higher position in their work force, but achieving that role can
be difficult. Some people believe that the reason there is more male leaders than females is because
women are not intelligent enough to uphold high thinking jobs. However, according to a reliable
source, women now actually surpass men in educational achievement ( Gender inequality and women

Although it has been proven that ultrasound is a safe modality there are still issues that sonographers

In addition, some patients may have a clear preference for a health care of provider of a specific
gender due to their ethnic, religious or cultural background, because of previous experiences or in
view of their age. When possible such individual needs and preferences should be taken into
consideration, such as in the case of breast ultrasounds. When conducting an intimate and/or invasive
examination, the male sonographer should request a chaperone to assist during the entire procedure.
Chaperones should normally be members of the clinical team who are sufficiently familiar with the
ultrasound examination being carried out. This is to ensure they are able to reliably judge whether the
sonographer s actions are professionally appropriate and justifiable. After asking some male
sonographers if they perform breast ultrasounds, I was told that the hospital prefers female
sonographers to perform this type of exams. Only in the case where there is a need for the male
sonographer a chaperone needs to be present during the whole procedure. Hospitals have the
responsibility to provide their employees with a chaperone. DHMC have established that the
responsibility for securing chaperone services must be 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year. Yet there
are no cases reported in which male sonographers have been accused of invading patient privacy or
behaving unprofessionally while performing a breast

These two concepts are very similar to the beliefs of Hinduism. In Hinduism, they believe to continue

people believe in the existence of the soul. They believe the soul to be external, invisible and
unchanging. Atman in Hinduism means soul in English. The believed the concept of soul (atman) to
be very important in human life. Just like Animism the atman or soul is a crucial part of the human

Hinduism most individuals believe that there is life after death, and that the soul(atman) doesn t rest in
peace if the spirit is displeased. As for Animism it has a similar concept. The second dogma about
Animism which is the upward to the rank of powerful deities is also a similar theory comparing to
Hinduism. Both theories believe in deities, which are is a supernatural, immortal being.
According to Tylor he also believed that their sprits and souls not only existed in people but also
existed in animals, plants and inanimate objects. He pictured these souls as vapors or shadows going

Strength 1: Shooting is one of my strengths as I think I perform it correctly. By correctly I mean

It s a high pass and should enable you to speed up the game. This pass requires lots of power to make
it travel faster; if it s slow and loopy a defender could intercept it. For me the power comes from
behind the ball. I spread my fingers around the ball, bend my arms and try to keep my elbows close to
my body. I then lift the ball above my right shoulder (as I m right handed) and let it drop back slightly.
This gives me extra power when I go to release the ball. To make it go through the air faster I put one
foot forward, this also helps me to lean into the pass. I think when you throw a shoulder pass it s best
to aim for your team mates head and chest (this will make it easier for them to catch the ball). In my
opinion to master a shoulder pass you have to follow the directions above and finally when you
release the ball I think you should follow through the pass (basically stretching out your arms and
fingertips after releasing the ball.
Strength 3: The bounce pass is a strength of mine and I think it s a really good pass to be good at. You
use it for short distances and I ve noticed from observing myself that it works well when you find
defenders are closing in on you and you need to act quickly. It s the best short distance pass to use

Similarities Between Fast Food Nation And The Jungle
Both chapter eight of Fast Food Nation and the excerpt from The Jungle depict gruesome images of
the reality of a meat factory. These passages were written by muckrakers who felt it was their duty to
expose the truth of the food industry to the American people. The authors tried to express the same
messages in these pieces; through the use of diction and characterization, Upton Sinclair and Eric
Schlosser are able to convey to the public the horrors of the meat packing industry and the treatment
of its employees. The use of language is an adequate manner of showing the reader the author s point
of view on a situation or topic without declaring it outright. Upton Sinclair and Eric Schlosser use
effective diction to give the reader a sense of the horror that goes on within the industries and their
emotions while being witness to it. When reading closely, it is obvious that the word choices of the
authors are pushing the reader to also view these scenarios as horrific and inhumane. In Fast Food
Nation, Schlosser writes, On the kill floor, what I see no longer unfolds in a logical manner. It s one
strange image after another. A worker with a power saw slices cattle into halves as though they were
two by fours, and then the halves swing by me into the cooler. There are many keywords in this
excerpt that paint an awful scene in the reader s mind. Firstly and perhaps most importantly, using the
term kill floor to describe the setting automatically gives a negative connotation. Kill floor is
extremely cacophonous, and Schlosser purposefully did not choose to find a euphemistic counterpart
to use instead; the reader can easily imagine what goes on at a kill floor . He also writes that the events
unfolded in an illogical manner . This denotes that there is chaos and disorder within the factory, thus
forcing the reader to conclude that the events occurring are doing so with no supervision and are
possibly hazardous. Finally, Schlosser describes the employee s work as slicing with a power saw and
cutting the cattle in halves, which then swing by the cooler. Reading of something being sliced with a
power saw gives the reader an instant image of a reckless cut through something with a mighty tool,
which shows the

The Legalization Of Physician Assisted Death
The idea of committing euthanasia and physician assisted suicide (PAS) had a historical root in the
nineteenth century and referred as skillful alleviation of suffering 1 in Latin transcripts. Recently the
theme of the legalization of physician assisted death (PAD) in Canada boosted in 2012. The decision
of the British Columbia Supreme Court in the case of Carter v. Canada (Attorney General) was the
threshold of the theme. It ruled that the Canadian Criminal Code 2 prohibition against PAD was
discriminatory. According to the decision, the section 241 of the Code abuses the section of 12 of the
Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. The adjudication is being finalized by the Supreme Court
of Canada in 2015 by granting a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In term of jurisprudence, assuming the legalization of euthanasia and PAD based on the court s
decision in Carter v. Canada has no legal ground. First of all, there is a new law only regarding PAD,
whereas there is nothing about euthanasia. Secondly, euthanasia and PAD are two different legal
terms. In brief, euthanasia means the deliberate act undertaken by one person with the intention of
ending the life of another person to relieve that person s suffering , according to the Canadian Senate
1995 report 3. In PAS, a physician, at the request of a competent patient, prescribe a lethal quantity of
medication, intending that the patient will use the medicals to commit suicide 4. Thirdly, according to
section 241 of the Canadian Criminal Code, there is a punishment for a doctor who assists a person to
commit suicide. This sentencing revised through a decision from the Supreme Court of Canada that
declared it should discriminate. In fact, derogating section 241 of the Canadian Criminal Code
regarding the prohibition of PAD is vastly different from legalizing euthanasia or PAD. The Supreme
Court of Canada in Carter v. Canada case provided: ...we should issue the following declaration:
Section 241 and s.14 of the Criminal Code unjustifiably infringe s.7 of the Charter and are no force or
effect to the extent that they prohibit physician assisted death for a competent adult person who (1)

Theme Of Symbols In Sons And Lovers
In Sons and lovers, D.H Lawrence has made a very clever use of symbols. The novel abounds in
symbolic objects and events. Yet they are so well integrated with the narrative that they hardly ever
appear obtrusive. When understood, these symbols adds to the richness of the novel and enhances our
appreciation of the novel. Mark Spikla says The symbolic scenes are extremely literal and the symbols
seem to function as integral strands in the webs of emotional tensions. In Sons and Lovers, we have a
host of such symbolic scenes which have a catalytic effect upon the intensity of the plot and action in
the novel. The description of coal pits is symbolic. The coal pits standing at the horizon are a concrete
reality. The entire life of the community depends on them. Their symbolic significance become clearer
as the novel progresses that these coal pits are a particular way of and a particular attitude towards life.

Essay On Gerrymandering
When looking at a map of the United States, it can be seen that it is very cut and dry. The borders of
states are straight, cut at right angles, and distributes the land proportionally. The same cannot be seen
or said for Congressional districts. The intention is to evenly divide up the States even further but
instead, it is based on the state populations. It can also be apparent that the drawing of the districts in
recent years has been less than about population numbers, but as to who the population votes for.
Representation including district boundaries is known as the practice of gerrymandering. So in the

Dr. Kaplan s Practice At Boone Hospital
I received an assignment to investigate a complaint on Dr. Michael Kaplan on 11/20/2014 regarding
some concerns raised about Dr. Kaplan s practice at Boone Hospital. These concerns triggered an
investigation by the medical executive committee (MEC). Dr. Kaplan elected to retire from the
hospital, resign his medical staff appointment and clinical privileges. This was reported to the Board
of Healing Arts and to the National Practitioner Databank.
After serving a subpoena for the investigation at Boone Hospital, I received approximately 108 pages
of documents from Nancy Tune, RN on 01/07/2015. In these documents I found that Dr. John J.
Seaberg, M.D. had observed on March 14, 2014 Chris Kaplan dissect the implant pocket for a breast
augmentation using the electro cautery and use a #10 scalpel blade to make the skin incision for an
abdominoplasty while Dr. Mike Kaplan was sitting beside the operating table with his hands folded on
the patient watching his wife operate.
Mrs. Kaplan is not a nurse or a doctor. Dr. Seaberg believes that this is a violation of 334.2(4)d and
334.040. He feels that she is not qualified by training, skill, competency, age, experience, or licensure
to perform such responsibilities.
There is a copy of a letter from Dr. Seaberg to Mark Cohen, M.D. Chief of Staff of Boone hospital
stating the above.
This matter was referred to the Medical Executive Committee (MEC) to investigate this incident and
Dr. Mike Kaplan s fitness to perform surgery.

My life is a story of the self realization of the unconscious. Everything in the unconscious seeks
outward manifestation, and the personality too desires to evolve out of its unconscious conditions.
Carl Jung The author of the lines mentioned above, Carl Gustav Jung, is one of the major contributors
of the Psycho Analytic perspective of understanding personality. Jung who was born in Kesswil,
Switzerland, in 1875, was a very close associative of Sigmund Freud. The duo shared a lot of common
ideas and thoughts beginning from their first meeting at Freud s office in Vienna, after a period of

Like all psychoanalysts, Jung recognized that personality contains both conscious and unconscious
elements. Like Freud, Jung referred to the ego when describing the more conscious aspects of
personality. His description of the unconscious, though, differed from Freud s id and superego

minimize unconscious influence, as did Freud. Rather, Jung sought a balance in which unconscious
elements were given an equal role, complementary to that of consciousness Jung s description of
personality types is one of the more straightforward aspects of his theory. Among other things, it helps
explain why some people seize on his descriptions of mystical and mythological experience with

The Burdensome Issue Of Social Media
Jessica Lardenoit
AP English Literature
Ms. Young P. 1
February 19, 2015
Satire
The most burdensome issue society faces today results from our obsessive need to be connected to
electronics and social media. This issue stems into many aspects of our daily lives. What was once
thought to be an exciting advancement has now caused a myriad of problems in society. Today s
generation is faced with the rising levels of obesity, lack of focus, poor communication skills, which in
turn has created a far less intellectual society. With the internet, smart phones, video games, movies,
television and numerous other technological advancements improving daily, the youth in our society
are becoming corrupt. They are becoming desensitized, uninspired, and underqualified. We are
shaping the newest generations to become dull robots who just conform to the latest, greatest fads.
Social media sites, such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, are becoming tools to drain the
intelligence of adolescences until they only converse with instant messaging lingo. It is an instrument
for teenagers to become secluded from society where they only spend time in their rooms and online.
With the pressure from their peers to update their statuses every few minutes, teenagers focus more on
what 140 character message they will send out next, instead of what school work they have. They care
more about what selfie to post instead of spending valuable time with their families. Television and
video games have sucked

A1. The Nature of the incident was that an employee was able to hack into the computer system and
gain access to the financial payroll system, human resources and even email system. This employee
used several methods in order to gain access into the system: IP spoofing, Data modification, Man in
the middle attack and compromised key attack. As a result the employee was able to tamper with
payroll system. An auditor discovered the discrepancies and tried to make upper management aware of
the situation through email, but the email was intercepted by the hacker. The hacker impersonated an
employee and persuaded the auditor into granting him more access into the system which resulted in
additional sabotage into the payroll system. Hacker ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Immediately bring down any affected systems shut them down and power down switches and/or
routers to entire segment that were hacked. The servers that were hacked need to be immediately reset
meaning passwords, backup system and its applications. But before doing this to any system the
company should take an image of the affected systems for forensic investigation, this will be the
evidence against the hacker. Virus software needs to be run as soon as possible and security patches
need to be installed on the entire company s network system. The computers that were hacked need to
be shut down and retrieve specially the one from the employee that hacked the system. Reroute
network traffic to back up servers. This will help the company to minimalize the incident from
reoccurring. The company should also remove/reset accounts and/or backdoors left on hacked
systems. A4. How the factor that caused the incident could be removed? The company must ensure
that proper steps were taken to remove all affects systems from the network. Ensure that systems were
reimaged and passwords reset. Latest virus definitions need to be updated along with all security
patches in order to fix any vulnerability that was exploited by the hacker. Unused services should also
be disabled in order to harden the system against any future attacks. All of the affected computers
should also have been reimaged. The company might need to reiterate

Chuck s Experiences During World War II
To him, nothing came close to the feeling of being ten thousand feet in the air (Jones). Charles Nelson
seemed to have been born for the skies, even from a young age Charles Nelson, more commonly
known as Chuck, knew exactly what he was gonna do when he was older. He was gonna be a pilot,
and he wasn t gonna let anything or anybody stop him. He would share his hopes and dreams with his
first cousin, my grandfather, Tom Jones. Chuck was older than Tom and as result Tom came to respect
Chuck, from this grew a bond that allowed Chuck to feel safe enough to share his dreams with Tom.
Little did Chuck know that his dreams would lead him right into one of the largest wars of all time,
and change the outcome of the rest of his life. Chuck s experiences during World War II were very
unique and not at all the norm of what most pilots experienced during the Second World War. Context
World War II was an event that truly left a mark on history, it is probably one of the most famous wars
of all time, especially on a global scale. There are many different reasons why World War II occurred,
and those reasons branch out into even more reasons when you look at why each individual country
got involved. One could write far more then five pages on that subject alone, because of this I have
decided to focus more on why aerial warfare became the big deal that it was in World War II. When
the Second World War was coming into being we were only a few decades beyond the First World
War, it was

The Health Care Industry Affecting The Healthcare Industry
The patient population is mostly affected by the healthcare industry (Su et al., 2009). There are many
aspects of the healthcare industry that can affect the patient, but the cost is probably the biggest
concern of consumers. When consumers talk about health care cost, they mean how much will cost
them. Therefore, consumers use of health care has a direct relation to the out of pocket expenses. The
less the out of pocket the more the consumer will use the health care services. This can drive to higher
costs to the payer (health care insurance) which can raise then the health care premium. The same
expectation of paying the least possible drives the consumer to search for the insurances that are more
appealing in this respect. Employers as

The objective of the study was to examine the dissociative phenomenology of dissociative Identity
Disorder (DID). The Multidimensional Inventory of Dissociation (MID) was administered to 34
patients with DID, 23 patients with dissociative disorder not otherwise specified (DDNOS), 52
patients with mixed psychiatric disorder, and 58 normal people. DID patients acquired essentially
higher scores than the other three gatherings on 27 separation related variables. DDNOS patients had
essentially higher scores than normals and mixed psychiatric patients on 17 and 15 dissociation related
variables, separately. The discoveries of the present study are for all intents and purposes
indistinguishable to an extensive assemblage of recreated discoveries about the dissociative
phenomenology of DID. This wide scope of separation related marvels, which routinely happens in
people with DID, is generally truant from the DSM IV TR record of DID. Element examination of the
11 measurements of dissociation that are measured by the MID extricated one and only element that
represented 85% of the fluctuation. It was presumed that dissociation is a unifactorial taxon or normal
sort that has distinctive angles or epiphenomena (i.e., amnesia, depersonalization, voices, daze, and so
forth) (Williams, Wilkins

Mambouna During The Industrial Revolution A general strike in Dakar, with the exception of railway workers, guaranteed wage increases, family allowances for government workers, the recognition of unions, the expansion of wage hierarchies, and bonuses for seniority. (Aurora Munoz) Several important changes drove the members of the Railway Workers Union to lead to a memorable strike. The railways had been transferred to a parastatal group, which means that it was now owned wholly by the government. This changed meant that the railroad workers could no longer benefit from the status of civil servants. The parastatal group was set up in a hierarchical fashion. • 4. Investigating Hooke s Law And The Euler Bernoulli Bending... In this lab, deflection and strain are measured in an attempt to confirm Hooke s law and the Euler Bernoulli bending beam theory. In addition, the measured data allows us to calculate the modulus of elasticity (Young s Modulus) or E of the cantilever beam. Through the course of the experiment our observations revealed that the addition of weights deformed the beam in response to the applied stress. This deformation can be modeled using the Euler Bernoulli beam bending theory. Our experimentation and calculations revealed that our data did indeed prove the theories mentioned in this lab. Furthermore, our values for the modulus of elasticity or E came within the range of established values found online. Engineering involves a wide array of problems that must be overcome. A great deal of time is spent researching materials and their properties. Materials compromise all aspects of our society, from buildings to roads to even the equipment that was used in this lab. Problems arise in regards to how strong or flexible the material is, with the official terms being stress, strain, and elasticity. Improper use of such materials results in tragedies such as the Tacoma Narrows Bridge in Washington that failed to due resonance and stress beyond its elastic limit [1]. This lab teaches us the importance of stress, strain, and elasticity. Their relationships are explored through the deformation of a cantilever beam. Stress is introduced as weights and the beams experiences strain. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Duckweed Grow Lab Report Overall, it is recognizable that excess nutrients do have major effects on water ecosystems, showcased within the three samples. By the end of the experiment, the samples differed vastly. In the high sample, most, if not all, organisms had died off from harmful levels of the provided nutrients. In the low sample, plant growth thrived because there was just enough of the provided nutrients. In the control sample, nothing major had changed other than the amount of duckweed, which was still acute. It is apparent that eutrophication occurred more in the low sample compared to the other two. The high sample received 6 8 drops of liquid miracle grow, which consists of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. Initially, it was predicted that this sample would serve as the one with the most life. However, this was proven false. This sample shows profound levels of death and no growth whatsoever. This is due to the fact that such excessive amounts of nutrients can serve as a toxic poison to organisms. Over the course of the experiment, no additional duckweed growth was witnessed. These symbolic identifications are essentially leisure time activities, rooted in nuclear family traditions reinforced by voluntary enjoyable aspects of being ethnic (Gans 424 429). Symbolic ethnicity is practiced and enjoyed by white Americans. It is a way for descendants of white Europeans to learn about and be proud of their heritage. When a black group attempts to celebrate its heritage, other groups march in order to disrupt these types of celebrations. Every time a black organization wants to march or celebrate, the KKK or other white supremacist group alternatively marches to cause conflict. The book is written in a way that is enjoyable to the reader because it is written in third person, where an observer writes about what occurred in the class among Meisner and his students. In the book, Meisner teaches the students about the importance of being genuine; they should stop pretending and they should stop being polite. They should rather just do what feels genuine to them. I liked that the book was written based on observed experiences and not just laying down the acting techniques for readers to follow. By reading about the experiences, I felt as though I was in the class with Meisner and this enabled me to understand the techniques better. The first things that caught my eye from the book are the principles Meisner gives his students. On the topic The Pinch and The Touch , he says, Don t do anything unless something makes you do it...what you do doesn t depend on you: it depends on the other fellow (Meisner 34). He goes further to illustrate the two principles by pinching John, one of his students, who reacts by shouting Mr. Meisner! The principles caught my eye because I have heard my acting professor constantly tell us the same thing. • 10. Analysis Of Violence In Stagecoach As watching these movies from different time periods, I noticed one similar theme that stuck the majority of the movies and that was violence shown in different types of communities. These communities consist of The Pure Violence of the West depicted in Stagecoach, then the more subtle violence within a family depicted in American Beauty and finally the hateful depiction of violence shown in Do the Right Thing. Each of these movies are taken place in what we know as the Home, the West and the City. So to get this started I would like to discuss each of these movies and there depiction of violence within the communities before getting started. Stagecoach is a movie about the wild west where a group of misfits are leaving town to head to a new area, but on the way to this new promise land they are met with many bloody battles. Next, I would like to discuss the subtle violence in the movie American Beauty which takes place within a small families home. The definition of a martyr is a person fighting for or against a cause in which Riel has shown in the 2 resistances he has partaken and lead. On the other hand, a political martyr is someone who struggles in execution. A treason is a horrible act towards a nation and a traitor is someone who has done the act. Winners may deem the losers as traitors and sometimes execute them. High treasons are assisting or starting a war against Canada. The problem in the first episode I watched was that one of the planet Saturn s rings fell off and the group had to work together to try and return it back to space. This show, in my opinion, had very little gender stereotyping, even with careful analysis as well as no violence. A small aspect I did notice was that the two male characters were usually the ones to come up with problem solving and heroic ideas while the girls were the ones asking questions like what are we supposed to do? while more often scared in a problematic scenario. The physical appearances of the characters also varied and I don t believe they were conforming to stereotypes, but instead, provided a range of personalities and physical appearances that all types of kids could identify with. My Favorite Incarnation Of Star Trek Jung and the Archetypes: The Enemy Within Whoever the hero may be, he or she journeys for us, carries us metaphorically into our darker side, [...] where the monsters inside of us take on terrifyingly real forms, where our deepest wishes sometimes are fulfilled. (Leeming 203, 204). I ve always been drawn to hero quests. One of my favorites is Star Trek, though it isn t a typical hero quest. The stories of each incarnation of Star Trek are thought provoking explorations of the human psyche on both societal and individual levels, often taking on contemporary social issues and setting them in the future with aliens playing the part of the good guys almost as often as they are the villains. My favorite incarnation of Star Trek is the original series, filmed in the late 1960s. The hero archetype of this series is Captain James T. However, he was not necessarily always a good man; he cheated on a test that was supposed to show the character of future commanders by how they handle a no win scenario. (Kobayashi). The most recent constitution came to be in 1982, and in theory it gives a serious amount of power to the National People s Congress (NPC). The NPC is a group that is elected by the provincial people s assemblies who are in turn elected by lowering ranking officials. The constitution states that the NPC is the highest Organ of state power . The constitution also gives the NPC the power to amend the constitution; supervise its enforcement; enact and amend laws; ratify and abrogate treaties; approve the state budget and plans for national economic and social development; elect and impeach top officials of the state and judiciary; and supervise the work of the State Council, the State Central Military Commission, the Supreme People s Court, and the Supreme People s Procuratorate . However, in reality the NPC serves mostly as a rubber stamp for Party decisions. One example of this is the NPC s right to elect party officials such as the President and Vice President. Technically the NPC has these rights, it is the CPC that actually appoints these positions and the NPC just simply agrees with the Party s decisions. A driving reason that the NPC has so much theoretical power, yet does not have any power in reality is that many NPC deputies are members of the CPC or are state officials or civil servants. China rejects the principle of separation of power, and this allows for NPC deputies to hold positions in these other branches of government. The NPC is designed to oversee the other branches of government that they are usually in, therefore, many members of the NPC are overseeing themselves. Gender dysphoria is a complex struggle between a person s physical gender and who he or she identifies, and this could be an individual physically born as a male that identifies as being female and vice versa. Biological sex is determined at birth based upon the appearance of the infant, but gender identity is how the person feels or how they identify themselves, which is where the dysphoria comes in. It is from highly complex genetic, neurodevelopmental, and psychological factors (Mandal, 2012), and is not the same as homosexuality or gender nonconformity. Symptoms and signs of gender dysphoria may vary depending upon age and gender. Gender dysphoria becomes known as a disorder when it fits certain criteria. Treatment is available when needed. Being that animal euthanasia is a horrible and selfish act, we should stop it and only allow euthanasia of an animal if they are sick and will not heal or if they are suffering. Animal euthanasia has been around for years and has been an easy way for a family to put down their precious pet that is suffering. Killing an animal because they are a stray is not ethical. Stray animals, such as cat and dogs, that are said to be mean, can be tamed to the point where they could have a new loving home. We, as human beings, should not be killing innocent animals. Many people wonder what animal euthanasia is and why it is done. Resolving Internal And External Conflicts Having the skills to resolve internal and external conflicts effectively is one of the biggest challenges faced by organizations in today s business world. In most cases, to attain success in conflict issues, mediators are needed. They are vital to success as they act as they act as neutral parties to analyze a conflict by listening to both parties and coming up with a solution. The mediator is completely impartial (neutral) person(s) who probably does not know either party, but will act as a middle man that listens to both sides of the situation from the two and see if there is any middle ground opportunities for some kind of arrangement, acceptable to both sides, which will in part or fully help to resolve the situation. By so doing, a mediator functions as an intermediary. A mediator talks to parties in separate rooms and never allows shouting or interruption from disputants facing each other. In fact, often there is no need, allowing disputants to be in the same room at all. The role of the mediator is to shuttle or go between the parties. However, this paper will describe a work related conflict experience where a mediator was used to resolve the conflict, define the role of a mediator, explain the types of data a mediator may choose to gather and analyze when conducting a session to reduce or eliminate the conflict, assess how the information is utilized in a mediation plan by providing a detailed example of each. The Chinese economy can be viewed as the cornerstone of the global economy. The current global GDP, measured in purchasing power parity of nearly 60%, as well as current international rate of growth at more than 80%, is primarily accounted for by China and other neighbouring middle income countries, such as India or Vietnam.[1] These numbers are significant in understanding our global economy, which is widely interconnected through alliances of trade, laws and finance, thereby affecting our daily lives politically, economically, socially and technologically.[2] With recent analysis indicating that China s growth has declined to about 6.8% by the end of 2015[3], how would a crash in China s economy affect the global market? Following the 2008 2009 global economic crash, emerging markets like China with a rapid growth rate were presumed to safeguard the larger economies of the European Union, Japan and the United States. As China expanded its industrial revolution with an unprecedented annual growth rate and increased international trade, many countries in particular Germany benefited economically. When a person is obese, they have an increase risk to diseases such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease, various cancers, etc. (Haslam James 2005). There are countless studies conducted to see the possible effects obesity can cause to an individual. One study concluded, if two obese individuals have a child, that child has a high percentage of being obese as well (Kolata 2007). Although there are different methods to help individuals lose weight, there are different reasons for people not to lose the excess weight. The most common responses for individual s not to lose weight are, I don t have time to go to the gym, Workout DVD s are expensive, and Healthy and fresh foods are too expensive for me to buy. Viable Alternative Energy For Replace Fossil Fuels Viable Alternative Energy to Replace Fossil Fuels Nauman Syed Zia University of Houston Nearly all of the United States production of energy comes from non renewable sources, also known as fossil fuels. However, the problem with using fossil fuels to satisfy the United States ever growing demand for power is that they are a limited resource and their production and usage cause a myriad of harmful environmental effects. There are other sources of energy available that do not run out and are much more environmentally friendly such as wind, solar and hydro power. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Based of the origins of these fossil fuels, it is easy to see how incredibly slow the fossil fuel process is. In fact, the process is so slow that regeneration is negligible. Continued use of these fossil fuels will cause them to rapidly run out. Basically, when these fuels run out, they are gone forever. Its simply a matter of time until the United States will need other sources of power, and it is a smart move to act now on creating sustainable methods of energy rather than wait until the nation is forced to switch. The attractive feature of using alternative energy such as wind, solar, and hydro power is the assurance of renewability. There will always be naturally occurring winds, moving water, and radiation from the sun that can be converted to energy. The United States government should invest its time and resources into implementing these energy sources in order to secure sustainable energy. These alternative energy sources are more environmentally appealing as they do not cause nearly as much environmental damage that fossil fuels do. • 32. Similarities Between Fast Food Nation And The Jungle Both chapter eight of Fast Food Nation and the excerpt from The Jungle depict gruesome images of the reality of a meat factory. These passages were written by muckrakers who felt it was their duty to expose the truth of the food industry to the American people. The authors tried to express the same messages in these pieces; through the use of diction and characterization, Upton Sinclair and Eric Schlosser are able to convey to the public the horrors of the meat packing industry and the treatment of its employees. The use of language is an adequate manner of showing the reader the author s point of view on a situation or topic without declaring it outright. Upton Sinclair and Eric Schlosser use effective diction to give the reader a sense of the horror that goes on within the industries and their emotions while being witness to it. When reading closely, it is obvious that the word choices of the authors are pushing the reader to also view these scenarios as horrific and inhumane. In Fast Food Nation, Schlosser writes, On the kill floor, what I see no longer unfolds in a logical manner. It s one strange image after another. A worker with a power saw slices cattle into halves as though they were two by fours, and then the halves swing by me into the cooler. There are many keywords in this excerpt that paint an awful scene in the reader s mind. Firstly and perhaps most importantly, using the term kill floor to describe the setting automatically gives a negative connotation. Kill floor is extremely cacophonous, and Schlosser purposefully did not choose to find a euphemistic counterpart to use instead; the reader can easily imagine what goes on at a kill floor . He also writes that the events unfolded in an illogical manner . This denotes that there is chaos and disorder within the factory, thus forcing the reader to conclude that the events occurring are doing so with no supervision and are possibly hazardous. Finally, Schlosser describes the employee s work as slicing with a power saw and cutting the cattle in halves, which then swing by the cooler. Reading of something being sliced with a power saw gives the reader an instant image of a reckless cut through something with a mighty tool, which shows the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In brief, euthanasia means the deliberate act undertaken by one person with the intention of ending the life of another person to relieve that person s suffering , according to the Canadian Senate 1995 report 3. • 42. Chuck s Experiences During World War II To him, nothing came close to the feeling of being ten thousand feet in the air (Jones). Charles Nelson seemed to have been born for the skies, even from a young age Charles Nelson, more commonly known as Chuck, knew exactly what he was gonna do when he was older. He was gonna be a pilot, and he wasn t gonna let anything or anybody stop him. He would share his hopes and dreams with his first cousin, my grandfather, Tom Jones. Chuck was older than Tom and as result Tom came to respect Chuck, from this grew a bond that allowed Chuck to feel safe enough to share his dreams with Tom. Little did Chuck know that his dreams would lead him right into one of the largest wars of all time, and change the outcome of the rest of his life. Chuck s experiences during World War II were very unique and not at all the norm of what most pilots experienced during the Second World War. Context World War II was an event that truly left a mark on history, it is probably one of the most famous wars of all time, especially on a global scale. There are many different reasons why World War II occurred, and those reasons branch out into even more reasons when you look at why each individual country got involved. One could write far more then five pages on that subject alone, because of this I have decided to focus more on why aerial warfare became the big deal that it was in World War II. When the Second World War was coming into being we were only a few decades beyond the First World War, it was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. The Health Care Industry Affecting The Healthcare Industry The patient population is mostly affected by the healthcare industry (Su et al., 2009). There are many aspects of the healthcare industry that can affect the patient, but the cost is probably the biggest concern of consumers. When consumers talk about health care cost, they mean how much will cost them. Therefore, consumers use of health care has a direct relation to the out of pocket expenses. The less the out of pocket the more the consumer will use the health care services. This can drive to higher costs to the payer (health care insurance) which can raise then the health care premium. The Multidimensional Inventory of Dissociation (MID) was administered to 34 patients with DID, 23 patients with dissociative disorder not otherwise specified (DDNOS), 52 patients with mixed psychiatric disorder, and 58 normal people. DID patients acquired essentially higher scores than the other three gatherings on 27 separation related variables. DDNOS patients had essentially higher scores than normals and mixed psychiatric patients on 17 and 15 dissociation related variables, separately. The discoveries of the present study are for all intents and purposes indistinguishable to an extensive assemblage of recreated discoveries about the dissociative phenomenology of DID. This wide scope of separation related marvels, which routinely happens in people with DID, is generally truant from the DSM IV TR record of DID. Element examination of the 11 measurements of dissociation that are measured by the MID extricated one and only element that represented 85% of the fluctuation. It was presumed that dissociation is a unifactorial taxon or normal sort that has distinctive angles or epiphenomena (i.e., amnesia, depersonalization, voices, daze, and so forth) (Williams, Wilkins ...
