Trojan Women Analysis
The Trojan Women was an eye opening escapade for multiple viewers. This play was written by Ellen
McLaughlin, directed by Evan Parry, and produced by the College of Charleston s Department of
Theatre and Dance. The cruel effects of war on the world is evident; however, most forget about the
heartache women behind the scenes experience. McLaughlin wrote a moving script that portrays the
struggles these women are forced to face such as prostitution and slavery. Parry displayed an emphasis
on the art of dreaming and the anguish of detachment. The Trojan Women was not a play for all types
of audiences due to the high level of interpretation required for the viewer. Personally, this play is not
one I would see twice. However, the acting, the set design, and the direction tied together interestingly
to make this production.
Initially, the acting was stellar and amplified to clarify the theme of the play. In the beginning, the
chorus of Trojan women laughed, danced, and displayed an unbreakable strong bond between women
that could not be broken by the inevitable war. The women s spirits diminished through their actions
as the play progressed ultimately showing enslavement to the Greeks. A few roles complimented with
unique performers emerged from the rest. Hecuba played by Abriana Quiñones was breathtakingly
wonderful in capturing the audience when expressing the heartache of losing Troy. The weeping and
restlessness was raw and authentic. Andromache played by Bess Lawson made

Questions On Explaining Your Note Taking Ability Essay
In this paper I am going to answer the questions from Assignment 3.1 in the GNED course. There will
be several topics of discussion. Part Two of the assignment is an essay, in which six questions should
be answered. In each question, I will discuss the topics in detail, also adding my point of view.
Assignment 3
Every student needs to start with the basic fundamentals of going to college . You need to build a
foundation for the minor areas. It all starts with being able to follow simple instructions. However,
there is a myriad of information to retain. Thus, you will need to be to do the following:
1. Evaluate your note taking ability
2. Improve your test preparation
3. Review Case Studies on Note Taking How would you evaluate your note taking ability?
I haven t taken notes in a very long time. At work, I usually just jot things down on a note pad. Then,
when I m ready, I transcribe those notes into information. In high school, I was a fairly good note
taker, I think. I was organized, ready to listen, and free of distraction. If I had to evaluate myself, I
would say I m a Fair note taker. There is definitely room for improvement!
How can you improve your test preparation?
Overcoming anxiety about test taking is definitely going to be a challenge. I get very stressed,
irritated, and overall, crazy! So, to prevent a nervous breakdown, I am going to try to prepare early. I
am going to start focusing on the material before

Erasmus Praise Of Folly Essay
Humor and Criticism in Erasmuss Praise of Folly Humor and Criticism in Praise of Folly
Erasmus s Praise of Folly is a humor filled satire of pretty much everything. It is filled with wit and
sarcasm which make light of serious problems and blow insignificant issues out of proportion all the
while bringing a smile to the reader s face. It is not stinging humor at the expense of others (unless, of
course, the shoe fits), rather it is directed towards everyone. Erasmus even includes himself in the
joke, practically parodying himself in the first section (xvi). In Praise of Folly, Erasmus uses this
humor to criticize without the harsh judgment of seriousness. His humor parallels the import of his
subject. When Folly discusses the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is why Folly asks her audience to listen not with the ears you use for preachers of sermons, but
the ears you usually prick up for mountebanks, clowns, and fools (10). Humor in this situation lowers
the defenses of one who might otherwise take offense to Erasmus s criticism. He chose Folly to carry
his message because truth has a genuine power to please if it manages not to give offence, but this is
something the gods have granted only to fools (57). He does not single out specific individuals or limit
himself to specific groups of people; he includes almost everybody. Only the fools who personify the
lightheartedness and happiness that are the essence of Erasmus s comedy escape this criticism.
Erasmus even includes himself as a subject of this whimsical criticism showing that it is meant to be
constructive not harshly judgmental as it was taken by his many critics. His criticisms of wise men,
Seneca, women, and pedantry all apply to himself and he jokes about them all (xvi). He knows that, in
her first and most humorous voice, Folly is criticizing aspects of life that are of small significance in
comparison to her later targets, and Erasmus takes no shame in admitting his participation in such
minor foolishness. With Folly s first voice, Erasmus points out the insignificant foolishness that plays
into every person s life, including his own, with

Huey P. Newton And The Black Panther Party
During the late 1960 s and early 70 s posters of the Black Panther Party s co founder, Huey P. Newton
were plastered on walls of college dorm rooms across the country. Wearing a black beret and a leather
jacket, sitting on a wicker chair, a spear in one hand and a rifle in the other, the poster depicted Huey
Newton as a symbol of his generation s anger and courage in the face of racism and imperialism
(Albert and Hoffman 4, 45). His intellectual capacity and community leadership abilities helped to

It is out of this change of the movement s focus where Huey arrives at the idea for Black youth to
openly display weapons. This action would be soon to serve as a founding principal within the
Panthers. Eventually serving as a founding principal of the Panthers, Huey s suggestion for a
demonstration of armed protest was inspired by Malcolm X s philosophy for self defense. The SSAC s
rejection of Brothers On the Block , eventually led to Huey and Bobby s resignation from the Campus
Organization. Fed up with the increasing police brutality towards African Americans and the SSAC
rejection of Brothers On the Block , Huey and Bobby decided to form an organization to monitor
police behavior in black neighborhoods and protect the rights of African Americans. This organization
was the Black Panther Party for Self Defense (BPP). The Panthers stormed into American history in
1966 when Huey P. Newton wrote the platform for the party. The platform made an aggressive call for
power to determine the destiny of our black community . with the immediate emphasis on the need
for organizing black defense groups to end police brutality. Huey and Bobby created a uniform for
the Panthers demonstrating the seriousness and discipline of the Party s platform. The Black Panthers
first action was to follow Oakland Police cars, either on foot or in cars, while dressed in black pants,
black leather jackets, starched blue shirts and black berets, carrying loaded shot guns. The Oakland

Langston Hughes Salvation Essay example
Langston Hughes Salvation
In most people s lives, there comes a point in time where their perception changes abruptly; a single
moment in their life when they come to a sudden realization. In Langston Hughes Salvation , contrary
to all expectations, a young Hughes is not saved by Jesus, but is saved from his own innocence.
Salvation is the story of a young boy who has an experience of revelation. While attending a church
revival, he comes to the sudden realization that Jesus will not physically come save him.
In the first three sentences of the essay, the speaker adopts a very childlike style. He makes use of
simple words and keeps the sentences short, similar in style to that of an early aged teenager. But since

(182) praying at the church, or hear the sound of ?mighty wail of moans and voices? (182). And it is
almost impossible not to feel the warmth contained in the ?hot, crowded church? (181). In short, the
technique used by Hughes is set to put the reader in the same ambiance the young boy is in, thus
giving us a closer look at his innocence.
The innocence shown by the young boy at the beginning of the story can be attributed to many factors,
the main reason being his Auntie Reed. She goes on talking for days about the big revival. Just like
any other kid would, Hughes listens and believes word for word what his aunt tells him: ?She said you
could see and hear and feel Jesus in your soul.? (181) This naivete is characteristic of youths of that
age group. After all, he ?heard a great many old people say the same thing? (181) and it seemed to him
?they ought to know? (181). With all the hype and anticipation surrounding this event, Hughes is
certain something is bound to happen. His disappointment is manifested when he does not literally see
Jesus. From what he has been told, Hughes is expecting to see a human incarnation of Jesus. He is
actually more than just expecting to see him; he badly wants to be saved! Seeing Westley give up so
carelessly, triggers an awkward feeling inside of Hughes. The thought that Jesus is not going to show
up after all is starting to grow. That leads him to eventually give up and join Westley in lying. It is
only at night that he comes

Psychological Theories Of Assault
Assault is a violent crime that requires offensive touching, hitting, or frightening the victim by word
or deed. Assault crime can be upgraded to a felony when weapons are involved or abusing a victim
during the commission of a felony. Although assault can happen during crimes like robbery and
homicide, abuse happen mostly within a family or relationship (for example child abuse, parental
abuse, dating violence).

In Spite of Women Esquire Magazine and the construction of Male Consumer
Rhetorical Analysis One
During early thirties and forties which was right after the depression, government and corporate felt
the necessity to revive the market. At that time, people thought women were the ones with dominating
consumption powers. As Kenon Breazeale quoted in his article, Women are indeed the shoppers of the
world. (Breazeale, 231). However, some people such as those in journalism fraternity regarded women
s buying power as gullible vulnerability to consumerism s trashy faddishness (Breazeale, 232). Those
people spread wide hostility toward women s taste and argued that men should be the ones with ...

Breazeale here showed how Esquire trashed women s taste in food and at the same time implied that
male was much better in enjoying good food.
By quoting several similar examples about home décor and drink, Breazeale pointed out that all those
articles weren t written in any occasional incidents. By contrast, Esquire was knitting similar
misogynistic threads for years to conceptualize people about the gender related meanings of good and
bad taste. Food such as steaks and fowl, home décor with clean and functional features and alcohol
were considered as good and related with masculinity. On the other hand, ornamentation, carrot
teensie weenesies and anti alcohol were perceived as bad and femininity. As a summary of the
function of text, Breazeale concluded that all Esquire did were trying to recuperate a female identified
role for men which need arguing against traditional gender related social roles. Yet at the same time,
Esquire conveyed the message that any attempts of changing the traditional modes of patriarchal rules
was not allowed. So it was necessary to emphasize the privilege that male had over female. This job
was accomplished by the other function of the magazine illustrations.
Breazeale argued that by showing erotic spectacles

Examples Of Plot Twist In A Story
Plot twist occurs near or at the conclusion of a story. It is an unexpected conclusion to a work of
fiction that causes to reevaluate the whole plot and characters. When a plot twist happens it changes
one s view of the preceding events, it is also known as a surprise ending or twist ending. It provides
ideas for unexpected turns in the course of narrative. O.Henry has profoundly used this technique in

There are few cases with why the Guam has ended in the shortage of the water. The first reason is
because the Guam is located near to the equator, which makes the humidity very high leading to the
evaporation of the water into the air. The climate of Guam is average 80 degrees Fahrenheit and the
highest temperature ever recorded was 96 degrees Fahrenheit, meaning that Guam is very hot island
enough to evaporate the water. The second reason is the wastes created by the humans. According to
Pacific Daily News who wrote How to Conserve Water During the Drought it stated that the wastes
include overusing the water that are not needed, not turning off the faucet, not shutting off the nozzles
of the hose, and etc. These wastes creates a danger for a lot of the creatures around and the inside of
Guam. If the waste keeps continuing without an action, the people in the Guam will have huge

Tragic Heroism in Shakespeare s Antony And Cleopatra Essay
In the tragedy Antony and Cleopatra , Shakespeare presents our protagonist Mark Antony as a tragic
hero. He does this by using a number of dramatically effective methods, including language, staging
techniques and structure. Aristotle defines a tragic hero as a character of noble stature who has a tragic
flaw (usually hubris which is over confidence/arrogance) and suffers a downfall that is partially their
fault but also due to factors beyond their control. The downfall they suffer exceeds the crime but the
tragic hero gains some sort of self awareness.
Before the audience meets Antony, Shakespeare presents us with two soldiers discussing Antony s
current debauched life. This is dramatically effective staging because they are acting ... Show more

Another soldier calls him the god of Jupiter which elevates Antony s status to that of a great leader,
because Jupiter was the leader amongst all the other gods. Philo compares him to Mars, the god of
war, which shows elevates his stature to be one of equal rank with a god. Caesar recalls Antony s
excellent soldiership and virtus qualities. Virtus was the Roman ideal of male force and energy:
military prowess coupled with devotion to one s honour and fame. Antony had to drink/the stale of
horses and eat strange flesh and the bark of trees in order to stay alive and he was borne so like a
soldier that thy cheek...lanked not. These striking images paint an unfathomable scene of heroic
endurance which the audience respects and admires.
The audience is privy to a private conversation in Caesar s home between Caesar and Lepidus, who
were the other two thirds of the triple pillar of the world the triumvirate. The triumvirate were a
powerful political and military force; they ruled the Roman Empire after the murder of Julius Caesar.
During this conversation, they discuss Antony s debauched life and his former greatness in Caesar s
home where Caesar feels free to express his opinions honestly and he declares that Antony is a man
who is abstract of all faults and someone who would give a kingdom for mirth. This shows us how far
he has fallen in Caesar s eyes as his tone would be scathing and I imagine he would be pacing as he
ranted about Antony

Numerical Modeling And Tropical Meteorology
My general areas of interest are numerical modeling and tropical meteorology. For example,
numerical simulation models of tropical cyclones is the problem that interest me most in atmospheric
science. Based on one or two problems in tropical meteorology or related fields, I hope to work based
on the existing models, and make unique contributions. My ultimate goal is to develop skills to
become a sophisticated researcher and teacher in the field, while pursuing a doctorate degree in
atmospheric sciences.
My interest on PDEs dates back to high school. Since typhoons frequently struck my hometown, I
developed interest in the forecast of tropical cyclones. Guided by a net pal with a master s degree in
meteorology, I started to systematically study the basics of weather prediction. However, when
reading Principles of Meteorological Analysis, I encountered PDEs describing dynamics of
atmosphere, which was incomprehensible for me then. Realizing that a solid math foundation would
be critical to further study in meteorology, I chose to study mathematics in University of California,
Los Angeles (UCLA).
After finishing basic math courses, I challenged myself with a year long series of honors algebra
course, in which group theory, ring theory and Galois theory were covered. The homework sets and
take home exams in this course horned my skills of solving hard math problems. With limited clues
for each problem, I had to review related definitions and theorems carefully, and

The American Dream Persuasive Speech
The American Dream: it is an ideal and a concept that has captured the minds of countless generations
since the founding of this nation. However, this concept hasn t always had a name, in fact, historian
Jim Cullen is of the belief that the term was not coined until 1931, when James T. Adams wrote a book
on the history of the United States which he originally entitled The American Dream. The title did not
pass publishers due to the thinking that no one would purchase a book about one man s dream of the
nation (Gay and Deibel). Although the term was coined eighty four years ago, the concept has a much
deeper and older meaning. In fact, the idea may be found in the lives of the Mayflower Settlers, who

In the words of Jacob Needleman, America has betrayed the dream many, many times, but come back
to the ideal, it s still alive and it s struggling. People want it, but they don t know what to think about it
(Gay and Deibel). Needleman s statement is exactly on point. The American Dream is built on our
common roots and moral values that built this nation and strengthened our early leaders, and enabled
the likes of John D. Rockefeller to succeed. Rockefeller was an example of this idea of the American
Dream in that he improved his life despite his upbringing, he improved his life through his business
and the love of his family, he improved the lives of others through his charity work, and he achieved
great things through the innovations and works that were done in the oil industry. But even through
this, the words and works of those who did the opposite of what he did muddied his reputation and
allowed for the formation of revisionist history that has hindered that thing which we call the
American Dream. And it is because of small things like this, we as Americans have lost sight of the
American Dream. It is no longer attainable, because we have lost our common roots, our moral values,
and more importantly our sight of God. All of these things built this nation, our people, and it
constructed that idea we call The American

the sure way to know that your metabolism is working and that your body is flushing out the waste

serious medical problem, most constipation is caused by what we eat and can be cured by what we eat.
Add Fat: Healthy fats are essential to losing weight and staying regular. It helps keeps the intestines

The body cannot use bad fats for their benefits, so they basically just sit there waiting to be disposed

that instead of sautéing your food in olive oil, drizzle olive oil in a salad. Raw and organic coconut oil
is also delicious on toast in replace of butter. Fill Up On Fiber: Fiber is the best way to get your bowel
movements going. Aiming for 25 to 29 grams of fiber a day will easily fill you up without causing you
to gain weight. Many people who focused on reaching their daily limit with healthy fiber lost weight
more easily than those trying to stay within their allowed calorie count. This is because when you only

Essay on Abolishing Corporal Punishment in the United...
Corporal punishment is a discipline method in which an administering adult inflicts pain upon a
student (usually using a paddle) in response to a student s offensive behavior. Nowadays regulations
have been created as to how many swats can be inflicted, by whom, and with what instrument. It is
still used in many U.S. schools as a disciplinary method against disobedient or defiant students.
Although corporal punishment is no longer tolerated in the military, prisons, or mental institutions, 21
states still allow corporal punishment in full or in part according to the U.S. Department of Education.

Not only are such messages thought to be wrong themselves, but it is claimed that they are repeated by
the children who are hit. In the short term, those who are physically punished are alleged to commit
violence against other children, against teachers and against school property. As far as long term
effects are concerned, it is alleged that significant numbers of people who commit crimes were
physically punished as children. It is these arguments that lie behind the saying violence breeds
violence. All forms of corporal punishment in schools must be banned given that all violence must be
banned in schools and all corporal punishment influences violence in schools. (CS) Just because an
official is promoting violence, instead of a student, does not make it okay.
Punishing a student with violence is taking the easy way out of the situation. It is like putting a Band
Aid over a cut for the quick and easy fix. It may be a way to create an immediate response, but it is
inhumane and for lack of a better word, lazy. So this leaves us with a choice; either we continue taking
the quick fix , or we take action by permanently abolishing corporal punishment. No one wants to treat
children, the future of our country, with just a quick fix that ca hurt them in the long run .(DS) So we
need to confront the problem head on by taking action and finding other means of punishment.

continue their climb to the peak of Matterhorn is comparable to Barthelme s depiction of the crowd on
the streets watching cynically as their hero climbs to the golden castle of the glass mountain. This
crowd symbolizes the growing middle class, comfortable in their conformity as working stiffs and
homemakers who do not want to risk their current contentment for a chance to reach the heights of
American capitalism. Morley is content to remain a dreaming spot by the little lake in the eyes of Ray
Smith who is miles ahead on the mountain questioning his own decision to tackle the frightening
height of the Matterhorn. (p.82). Morley represents, through his actions, Americans living
comfortably, yet always dreaming the American dream to be more successful, powerful, or rich as he
says I don t think I can make it. Ill wait here (P. 81). The plateaus in the Glass Mountain are equally
represented by small cubicles inside

Subjective assessment is a form of questioning which may have more than one correct answer and/or
more than one way of expressing the correct answer, whereas opinion might in addition to also consist
of unsubstantiated information, in contrast to knowledge and fact based beliefs. Some have argued
that the distinction between objective and subjective assessments is neither useful nor accurate
because, in reality, there is no such thing as objective assessment. In fact, all assessments are created
with inherent biases built into decisions about the relevant subject matter and content, as well as
cultural (class, ethnic, and gender)

Relationship Between The Tang And Song Empire
The Tang and Song Empires were two very powerful empires that ruled China after the Han and Sui
Dynasties. The Han Dynasty left China fragmented for centuries, and the Sui Dynasty reunified China
until the Turks from Inner Asia assassinated the son who ruled. The Tang filled the political vacuum in
618 with emperor Li Shimin (r. 626 649) who extended his power into westward Inner Asia. The Tang
kept many Sui governing practices but avoided overcentralization with giving nobles, gentry, and
religious establishments power. The Tang Empire fell after the An Lushan and Huang Chao rebellions
that left the society homeless, a refugee, or a migrant worker. The empire fell in 907 after a warlord
terminated their line. However, the Song Empire had arisen in 960 and paid tribute to the Liao, who
controlled the north. The Song Empire aligned with the Jurchens, who ended up creating the Jin
Empire, to destroy the Liao capital. The Song Empire was betrayed by the Jurchens and ended up
having to pay tribute to them, which some historians refer to as the Southern Song period (1127 1279).
The Song Empire declined in the year 1126. The Tang and the Song had a variety of economic,
political, and social accomplishments, some that they shared, and some that they didn t. Both the Tang
and the Song increased the use of trade, had a change of size of their empires, and had major
advancements in technology. Although, the Tang and the Song differed with the growth of Song s
population and its

Theory Application Of Learning Mechanisms Of Change...
Theorist Theory Description Characteristics of the Theory Process Application of Learning
Mechanisms of Change Reaction when theory is applied Basic Observation Outcomes Bandura (1977)
Social Learning Theory: Albert Bandura s Social Learning Theory believes that learning occurs in a
social context through observation, imitation, and direct instruction. It comprises of attention,
retention, reproduction, and motivation. *Attention *Retention *Reproduction *Motivation *Attention
this implies that to accurately learn by observation, a person must pay attention to the person doing the
modeling and should steer away from any possible distraction. *Retention this is a poignant part of the
social learning process as the behavior may have been observed, but it is not always remembered
which thus prevents imitation or mimicry (McLeod, 2006). *Reproduction this is the process where
the student practices the recently learned behavior, and it is majorly dependent on the physical
capabilities of the observer to reproduce the behavior. *Motivation a person has to value the benefit of
continuously performing the action. Therefore, this development is often driven by positive
reinforcement for demonstrating the behavior correctly or punishment for applying the behavior
inappropriately (Sincero, 2011). Bandura s Social Learning Theory has been used to understand the
behavior of children in a social setting. For example, a new student who observes how his/her peers

Gainsborough, A Story of a Painter and an Era Essay
Gainsborough, A Story of a Painter and an Era
To be able to appraise the originality of eighteenth century English art, one must recognize its
importance in history. A great painter to research is Thomas Gainsborough. His artwork was an
important aspect of the art community of the middle seventeen hundreds. His paintings seem to bring
brightness and color to a period in art that needed his creative boost. His combination of portrait
paintings along with beautiful landscapes was not recognized in his time, but would be recognized as
remarkable later in history.
Thomas Gainsborough was born in 1727 in the town of Sudbury in Suffolk (Internet 1). He grew up as
the son of a woodworking father and his mother was a teacher. He had 7 ... Show more content on

This did not interest Gainsborough; he enjoyed being able to paint subjects outdoors (Internet 4). He
was fond of drawing trees grass and other objects that would not be found in an indoor studio. He was
not the first to draw backgrounds in his paintings; many have done this before him. His task was to
paint a background that was just as important as the subjects do but not distract either. By painting
outdoors, his paintings became much more colorful that most paintings of the past (Woodall 32).
Brighter paintings were much improvement over the paintings of the past. They were very eye
appealing and much more noticeable. Gainsborough s untrained painter s eye did not effect the
outcome of his paintings; he was painting from his heart. He painted whatever his eyes saw; in most
cases the outcome of his paintings were a perfect mix of background and foreground. People began to
start noticing his artwork even though he did not have a degree or formal education in art; this was
very promising to the young painter. His work slowly moved up into the great artwork of the city. His
name was becoming known all around. He can begin his career with the bright colors he added to the
scenery of the painting.
One superb example of where the colors and scenery effected a painting is in the painting Mr. and
Mrs. Andrews. In my first examination of the painting, many questions were brought up. One question

American Categorization
The History of a Powerful Categorization: Race in America As humans, we often find comfort in the
ability to separate and sort objects, ideas, and even people into innumerable categories that we may
refer to with ease. Even if there exists no scientific support for such classification, we find that our
innate nature allows us to socially construct certain divisions. Merriam Webster Dictionary possesses
numerous definitions for the word race; one that appears commonly describes this abstract idea as,
Any one of the groups that human beings can be divided into based on shared distinctive physical
traits (Merriam Webster.com). This definition remains intangible as American history in particular
paints an ever changing picture of racial categorization ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mexico, in a struggle for independence from Spain, expected the U.S. to assist in their rebellion as the
U.S. had recently undergone a similar revolution. America, however, had a different idea about land to
the west, and decided not to aid these Latin American rebels (Desmond Emirbayer 70). Although these
rebels rightfully won their land back from the iron grasp of Spanish colonization, by 1845 the United
States forced Mexico to hand over the land that makes up present day Texas. The Mexican race,
although in close proximity to the United States, became loathed by whites. A politician named
William Wharton described the collective detestation towards Mexicans within America,

My Family As An Extended Family
Introduction From an early age I placed a very high value on being a part of my family. At first it was
most likely feeling safe and secure. That being said, I had the logical realization that family was
important. Of special importance were grandparents and the extended family members. Being born in
a town where both sets of grandparents resided in addition to all the rest of my extended family was
very comforting to me. Being the first born grandchild had its advantages. I became very attached to
all the grandparents and enjoyed love, attention and quality time frequently until the first grade when
we moved. When my younger sister was born, I never felt replaced or left out because of the quality
time my grandparents invested in me. Even after my family moved a state away we always went back
for holidays, birthdays and summer vacations. I have a great deal of wonderful memories from my
childhood. My mother s father, my grandfather, was a very large presence in the community. He was
well respected in both the white as well as the black community in which he owned a grocery store.
This was unusual because there was a lot of racial tension and discrimination in Southern Alabama in
the 1960 s. He was a tall man at six foot five and was a hard worker. He often bailed people out of jail
and helped them with food when they were financially strapped anonymously. He was a Sunday
school teacher and had good moral values. I learned later that before I came along he had been an
alcoholic, a smoker, had been known for his quick temper, was not religious and had been unfaithful
to my grandmother. As it was told to me, one Sunday morning he got up, got dressed, went to church
and never took another drink or smoked again and was a radically changed man. He became a kind,
caring, charitable person. He was more of a father to me in many ways than my dad and we had long
talks in which he stressed the important things in life. He and my grandmother took my sister and I
fishing on the lake. We camped in the camper. We stayed for vacations at the Gulf of Mexico. The
stories he told, lessons I learned and loving affection he genuinely offered is something I consider a
gift I have never forgotten. The reason I never forgot is

Informative Speech Outline
Intro
Automobiles! You just have to have one in this fast paced world! In the United States, or maybe just in
a popular city such as Los Angeles or New York, automobiles are necessary. People need to move
from point A to point B. These points can be as close as a few hundred feet or even range up to a few
hundred miles! When making these trips safety is a priority. There are hundreds of thousands of
automobiles on the roads across the nation and if safety was not considered, thousand would be
injured or even killed daily! Automobile safety has come a long way over the years and as every day
goes by more and more new ways are created to keep drivers, and their passengers, ... Show more

avoid danger on the road.
Point 3
Tires. No matter what vehicle manufacturer you chose, there is always the fear of getting a flat tire or
even having a tire explode while the vehicle is in motion. Tire manufacturers design all kinds of tires
such as Run Flats, which are basically thicker tires with insulation that allow the vehicle to be driven
even though the tire is flat. Just

Why Fluoride Is Dangerous And Harmful
Rationale:
Most people would like to control what they consume, and even though this is becoming harder with
unmarked labeling and chemical additives, governments and councils all over the globe are adding
chemicals such as fluoride into city water supplies. The public is told that it is just to conserve their
health but we have created the illusion for ourselves that fluoride is added for other reasons, I.E.
population control and to lower our IQ. So why are governments doing this? I thought that it would be
interesting to find out why fluoride is added to our water and if it is really necessary.
Intro:
Most people know fluoride as a chemical added to water and toothpaste to improve dental health.
Some people believe that fluoride is vital to the growth and maintenance of out teeth but others say
fluoride is dangerous and harmful even when diluted. So what are the reasons behind adding this
supposed poison to our water supply and do we really need it? Well I believe we need fluoride, and
this document should help to explain why.
What Is Fluoride:
Fluorine is an element in the many fluoride compounds that are commonly added to water supplies
and dental products to rebuild and reinforce the enamel on our teeth. There are over 10 different
fluoride compounds. This is because fluorine has the capability of forming compounds with nearly all
the elements. When fluorine is combined with something else, for example sodium, it becomes a
fluoride compound (Sodium Fluoride).

Garage Door Opener System Research Paper
When you use your garage door opener, the garage door springs do almost all the lifting. That s why
you don t have to be a weight lifter to manually open a garage door that can weigh several hundred
pounds. If the springs balance out the weight of the door, then manually opening it is effortless. The
garage door opener system consisting of a motor, gears, chains, sprockets, and a carriage is designed
to apply the same minimal force that you do when manually opening and closing the door.
If the door were poorly balanced, manually opening and closing the door would require more strength
on your part. If you did this too much, you would likely injure yourself. The same is true of your
garage door opener system if you continually used it with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With time and constant usage, the metal in your garage door springs change and weaken. This reduced
lifting power means the motor must do more work to make up the difference. If one of the springs
break, then its share of the work (very roughly 50% of the door weight) is taken up by the motor. This
strains the motor and other mechanical components.
The door gets heavier. This happens when you add more weight to the door. Insulating a large door for
example, can add significant weight. Strengthening kits that protect doors from high winds, and
especially home made door strengtheners or stiffeners will add substantial weight. Efforts at making
your door more secure such as heavy duty locks and latches, window security bars, and metal or wood
shields that prevent hanger wire break ins also add weight.
The Balance Test
Checking your garage door for proper balance involves a simple test. With the door closed, pull on the
manual release cord to disconnect the door from its opener system. Then manually lift the door. It
shouldn t stick, bind, or feel heavy. If it doesn t feel too heavy, release the door when it s halfway
open. It should stay in place. Weak springs or an overweight door on the other hand, will cause the
door to move back

Substance Abuse Problem
Statement of the Problem

In 2013, according to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (2014),
approximately 8.2 percent of the United States population age 12 years or older, 21.6 million persons,
were classified with substance abuse or dependence. Longer patient treatment stays benefits patients
and society; however, against medical advice rates for substance abuse treatment facilities are high
despite the association between positive outcomes and treatment for substance users (Kosanke, 2000).
The change of behaviors exhibited by substance users is essential and key for positive treatment
outcomes (Mallows, 2014). The lack of substance abusers behavioral changes effects the completion

Essay On Veterans Rights
The issue that has been addressed throughout this study is veteran s rights. The issue of veteran s
rights is still being pursued and is near and dear to me. Not only am I a veteran, but I come from a
long line of men and women who have proudly worn the uniform in defense of our nation. Between
the mindset of the American public, to the cases presented before Congress, this is an ongoing
dilemma. Caring for our brothers and sisters in arms is the socially responsible thing to do. However,
many roadblocks must be torn down before this can come to fruition.
Problems Faced
What some the symptoms of veteran s rights look like in regards to how they are addressed, are in
multitude. They range in length from health care, education, to basic family needs. Overall, the
American public does not pay attention to veterans, and this is mostly in part because the issues that
plague our veterans are often deemed irrelevant by the average ... Show more content on

Once I have a wealth of research on my side, then I can not only help to inform the populace but either
create or join an existing social movement, like the Wounded Warrior Project (WWP, 2017) and
others, that promotes the goals in which I wish to achieve. Working directly with veterans and their
families while bringing the information to the populace has so far been the most effective. Petitions
have been generated and sent to Senators, and because of the slow, but steady fight, many in Congress
are seeing that there needs to be changes put in place.
The objectives for the desired outcomes is to ensure that every veteran, regardless of which war,
receives the proper care and treatment of their ailments. This is to include housing our homeless
veterans in complexes in which they will feel safe, yet give them the freedom they need to work on
their journey of healing. In the process, the veterans families that are affected must not be forgotten as

ALICE MUNRO S THE ALBANIAN VIRGIN IN OPEN SECRETS EXEMPLIES HER
CHARACTERISTIC APPROACH To try to trace Alice Munro s narrative techniques to any particular
development in the short story The Albanian Virgin would be difficult. This could be because it is
simply written from careful observations as are many of her other short stories. In her short stories, it
is as though she tries to transform a common, ordinary world into something that is unsettling and
mysterious as was seen in Vandals. Most of her stories found in Open Secrets, are set or focused on
Munro s native Canada, Huron County, and particularly in the small fictional Ontario town of
Carstairs, although the setting in The Albanian Virgin is in British Columbia. The ... Show more

Munro offers us (the reader) a bouquet of stories in one: the narrator s escape from and longing for
both lover and husband; Charlotte and her husband Gjurdhi, who are somewhere between threats,
exemplars of surviving love and pathos (as Munro s late middle aged couples often are); the adventure
of Lottar and the Franciscan priest who helps her escape from what is both new home and prison; the
antagonistic mating dance between the bookstore owner and her new, odd friends, Charlotte and
Gjurdhi. (Bloom 1995) The change from one character s point of view or narrative to another is
changing the setting and mood of the story. The narrator is indirectly portraying her as they both
moved to British Columbia and opened a bookstore. It is like telling the story of three individuals with
relation to her own life. When Munro was asked once in an interview as to why she used both first and
third person, her reply was it allows you to move around a bit more, and it allows you to say things
about other characters (MacKendrick, 24). Munro s use of stories is one of her many forms of
conforming the different narratives and points of view together. She tells the story the way that she
sees it forming and lets the reader figure it out for themselves. In this story, the reader has to first
realize that the main story is not on the bookstore owner, but on Charlotte, the woman

African Americans During The Reconstruction Era
Even though the voting rights issue did not end with the Reconstruction era, it inspired many African
Americans to rise and to establish a new leadership platform. The enlightenment period of the radical
reconstruction brought a more active role in the political, economic, and social life of the south with
the Republican domination in the 1866 elections; it introduced a new era for African Americans (
Black Leaders ). With the ratification of the 14th and 15th amendments and the spread of political
activism towards African Americans through festive parades, protests, and community meetings,
African Americans challenged themselves with the task of serving in a political office because African
Americans never had a voice to speak for them

How Much Power Should the American Government Yield
A dispute widespread amongst the citizens of the United States of America is on government, and
more specifically on how much power the government should yield. The philosophical question I will
be posing in this article is what should the government have the power to do . All the way to the left,
we have liberals who believe in a big government and a government that is involved with supporting
the people and curbing social inequalities and social hierarchy while supporting social equality. On the
other side of the spectrum we have right wing conservatives who prefer a government that is small and
call for reduced social spending, less regulation. In addition, they accept social hierarchy and social
inequality citing that social hierarchy and social inequality are inevitable. With this essay, I want to
focus on if the government has the power to invade your privacy. Currently reactions has been wild
ever since former NSA analyst Edward Snowden leaked the massive PRISM internet surveillance
program used by the NSA to collect data on citizens of the U.S. The philosophical question what
should the government have the power to do correlates with the NSA because the NSA is an institution
of the government, and should the government have the power to spy on its citizens without their
knowledge and without a warrant for the sake of national security. Foucault goes through the way
governments have attempted to control populations throughout history, and how power has exercised

Benefits Of Promotional Items Are Most Effective
Which Promotional Items Are Most Effective
There are literally thousands of choices when it comes to promotional products, however, some items
are definitely more effective than other, statistically. Surprisingly, it is not the cost of the item that is
most important, but the usefulness. The rule of thumb is know your audience . When you give items
that your target audience is likely to use, your chances of a successful promotion increase
dramatically. While research shows that the most popular products of the day are thumb drives,
aluminum sports bottles, reusable grocery bags, and anything golf related, green, or American made, it
is more important to address your niche than to follow the crowd. Some popular product choices in
several categories include:
Bags: Bags range from inexpensive plastic totes to swag bags, sports bags, backpacks, messenger
bags, laptop cases, and purses.
Business items: Business card holders, laptop sleeves, USB drives, pens (especially good quality
pens), and highlighters fall in this category.
Desk Accessories: Calendars (especially with a photo holder), laser pointers, picture frames, and desk
caddies are all high use items.
Apparel: Dress shirts, golf shirts, t shirt, caps, hats, socks, gloves, sweat bands, and even aprons...
Since one of the main components of promotional products is brand association, you want your brand
associated with quality. You also want your products to be used, remembered, and even re gifted.

  • 2. Trojan Women Analysis The Trojan Women was an eye opening escapade for multiple viewers. This play was written by Ellen McLaughlin, directed by Evan Parry, and produced by the College of Charleston s Department of Theatre and Dance. The cruel effects of war on the world is evident; however, most forget about the heartache women behind the scenes experience. McLaughlin wrote a moving script that portrays the struggles these women are forced to face such as prostitution and slavery. Parry displayed an emphasis on the art of dreaming and the anguish of detachment. The Trojan Women was not a play for all types of audiences due to the high level of interpretation required for the viewer. Personally, this play is not one I would see twice. However, the acting, the set design, and the direction tied together interestingly to make this production. Initially, the acting was stellar and amplified to clarify the theme of the play. In the beginning, the chorus of Trojan women laughed, danced, and displayed an unbreakable strong bond between women that could not be broken by the inevitable war. The women s spirits diminished through their actions as the play progressed ultimately showing enslavement to the Greeks. A few roles complimented with unique performers emerged from the rest. Hecuba played by Abriana Quiñones was breathtakingly wonderful in capturing the audience when expressing the heartache of losing Troy. The weeping and restlessness was raw and authentic. Andromache played by Bess Lawson made ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Part Two of the assignment is an essay, in which six questions should be answered. In each question, I will discuss the topics in detail, also adding my point of view. Assignment 3 Every student needs to start with the basic fundamentals of going to college . You need to build a foundation for the minor areas. It all starts with being able to follow simple instructions. However, there is a myriad of information to retain. Thus, you will need to be to do the following: 1. Evaluate your note taking ability 2. Improve your test preparation 3. Review Case Studies on Note Taking How would you evaluate your note taking ability? I haven t taken notes in a very long time. At work, I usually just jot things down on a note pad. Then, when I m ready, I transcribe those notes into information. In high school, I was a fairly good note taker, I think. I was organized, ready to listen, and free of distraction. If I had to evaluate myself, I would say I m a Fair note taker. There is definitely room for improvement! How can you improve your test preparation? Overcoming anxiety about test taking is definitely going to be a challenge. I get very stressed, irritated, and overall, crazy! So, to prevent a nervous breakdown, I am going to try to prepare early. I am going to start focusing on the material before ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Erasmus Praise Of Folly Essay Humor and Criticism in Erasmuss Praise of Folly Humor and Criticism in Praise of Folly Erasmus s Praise of Folly is a humor filled satire of pretty much everything. It is filled with wit and sarcasm which make light of serious problems and blow insignificant issues out of proportion all the while bringing a smile to the reader s face. It is not stinging humor at the expense of others (unless, of course, the shoe fits), rather it is directed towards everyone. Erasmus even includes himself in the joke, practically parodying himself in the first section (xvi). In Praise of Folly, Erasmus uses this humor to criticize without the harsh judgment of seriousness. His humor parallels the import of his subject. When Folly discusses the ... This is why Folly asks her audience to listen not with the ears you use for preachers of sermons, but the ears you usually prick up for mountebanks, clowns, and fools (10). Humor in this situation lowers the defenses of one who might otherwise take offense to Erasmus s criticism. He chose Folly to carry his message because truth has a genuine power to please if it manages not to give offence, but this is something the gods have granted only to fools (57). He does not single out specific individuals or limit himself to specific groups of people; he includes almost everybody. Only the fools who personify the lightheartedness and happiness that are the essence of Erasmus s comedy escape this criticism. Erasmus even includes himself as a subject of this whimsical criticism showing that it is meant to be constructive not harshly judgmental as it was taken by his many critics. His criticisms of wise men, Seneca, women, and pedantry all apply to himself and he jokes about them all (xvi). He knows that, in her first and most humorous voice, Folly is criticizing aspects of life that are of small significance in comparison to her later targets, and Erasmus takes no shame in admitting his participation in such minor foolishness. With Folly s first voice, Erasmus points out the insignificant foolishness that plays into every person s life, including his own, with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The SSAC s rejection of Brothers On the Block , eventually led to Huey and Bobby s resignation from the Campus Organization. Fed up with the increasing police brutality towards African Americans and the SSAC rejection of Brothers On the Block , Huey and Bobby decided to form an organization to monitor police behavior in black neighborhoods and protect the rights of African Americans. This organization was the Black Panther Party for Self Defense (BPP). The Panthers stormed into American history in 1966 when Huey P. Newton wrote the platform for the party. The platform made an aggressive call for power to determine the destiny of our black community . with the immediate emphasis on the need for organizing black defense groups to end police brutality. Huey and Bobby created a uniform for the Panthers demonstrating the seriousness and discipline of the Party s platform. • 6. Langston Hughes Salvation Essay example Langston Hughes Salvation In most people s lives, there comes a point in time where their perception changes abruptly; a single moment in their life when they come to a sudden realization. In Langston Hughes Salvation , contrary to all expectations, a young Hughes is not saved by Jesus, but is saved from his own innocence. Salvation is the story of a young boy who has an experience of revelation. While attending a church revival, he comes to the sudden realization that Jesus will not physically come save him. And it is almost impossible not to feel the warmth contained in the ?hot, crowded church? (181). In short, the technique used by Hughes is set to put the reader in the same ambiance the young boy is in, thus giving us a closer look at his innocence. The innocence shown by the young boy at the beginning of the story can be attributed to many factors, the main reason being his Auntie Reed. She goes on talking for days about the big revival. Just like any other kid would, Hughes listens and believes word for word what his aunt tells him: ?She said you could see and hear and feel Jesus in your soul.? (181) This naivete is characteristic of youths of that age group. After all, he ?heard a great many old people say the same thing? (181) and it seemed to him ?they ought to know? (181). With all the hype and anticipation surrounding this event, Hughes is certain something is bound to happen. His disappointment is manifested when he does not literally see Jesus. From what he has been told, Hughes is expecting to see a human incarnation of Jesus. He is actually more than just expecting to see him; he badly wants to be saved! Seeing Westley give up so carelessly, triggers an awkward feeling inside of Hughes. The thought that Jesus is not going to show up after all is starting to grow. That leads him to eventually give up and join Westley in lying. It is only at night that he comes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

At that time, people thought women were the ones with dominating consumption powers. As Kenon Breazeale quoted in his article, Women are indeed the shoppers of the world. (Breazeale, 231). However, some people such as those in journalism fraternity regarded women s buying power as gullible vulnerability to consumerism s trashy faddishness (Breazeale, 232). Breazeale here showed how Esquire trashed women s taste in food and at the same time implied that male was much better in enjoying good food. By quoting several similar examples about home décor and drink, Breazeale pointed out that all those articles weren t written in any occasional incidents. By contrast, Esquire was knitting similar misogynistic threads for years to conceptualize people about the gender related meanings of good and bad taste. Food such as steaks and fowl, home décor with clean and functional features and alcohol were considered as good and related with masculinity. On the other hand, ornamentation, carrot teensie weenesies and anti alcohol were perceived as bad and femininity. As a summary of the function of text, Breazeale concluded that all Esquire did were trying to recuperate a female identified role for men which need arguing against traditional gender related social roles. Yet at the same time, Esquire conveyed the message that any attempts of changing the traditional modes of patriarchal rules was not allowed. So it was necessary to emphasize the privilege that male had over female. This job was accomplished by the other function of the magazine illustrations. • 12. Tragic Heroism in Shakespeare s Antony And Cleopatra Essay In the tragedy Antony and Cleopatra , Shakespeare presents our protagonist Mark Antony as a tragic hero. He does this by using a number of dramatically effective methods, including language, staging techniques and structure. Aristotle defines a tragic hero as a character of noble stature who has a tragic flaw (usually hubris which is over confidence/arrogance) and suffers a downfall that is partially their fault but also due to factors beyond their control. The downfall they suffer exceeds the crime but the tragic hero gains some sort of self awareness. Before the audience meets Antony, Shakespeare presents us with two soldiers discussing Antony s current debauched life. This is dramatically effective staging because they are acting ... Another soldier calls him the god of Jupiter which elevates Antony s status to that of a great leader, because Jupiter was the leader amongst all the other gods. Philo compares him to Mars, the god of war, which shows elevates his stature to be one of equal rank with a god. Caesar recalls Antony s excellent soldiership and virtus qualities. Virtus was the Roman ideal of male force and energy: military prowess coupled with devotion to one s honour and fame. Antony had to drink/the stale of horses and eat strange flesh and the bark of trees in order to stay alive and he was borne so like a soldier that thy cheek...lanked not. These striking images paint an unfathomable scene of heroic endurance which the audience respects and admires. The audience is privy to a private conversation in Caesar s home between Caesar and Lepidus, who were the other two thirds of the triple pillar of the world the triumvirate. The triumvirate were a powerful political and military force; they ruled the Roman Empire after the murder of Julius Caesar. During this conversation, they discuss Antony s debauched life and his former greatness in Caesar s home where Caesar feels free to express his opinions honestly and he declares that Antony is a man who is abstract of all faults and someone who would give a kingdom for mirth. This shows us how far he has fallen in Caesar s eyes as his tone would be scathing and I imagine he would be pacing as he ranted about Antony ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Numerical Modeling And Tropical Meteorology My general areas of interest are numerical modeling and tropical meteorology. For example, numerical simulation models of tropical cyclones is the problem that interest me most in atmospheric science. Based on one or two problems in tropical meteorology or related fields, I hope to work based on the existing models, and make unique contributions. My ultimate goal is to develop skills to become a sophisticated researcher and teacher in the field, while pursuing a doctorate degree in atmospheric sciences. My interest on PDEs dates back to high school. Since typhoons frequently struck my hometown, I developed interest in the forecast of tropical cyclones. Guided by a net pal with a master s degree in meteorology, I started to systematically study the basics of weather prediction. However, when reading Principles of Meteorological Analysis, I encountered PDEs describing dynamics of atmosphere, which was incomprehensible for me then. Realizing that a solid math foundation would be critical to further study in meteorology, I chose to study mathematics in University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). After finishing basic math courses, I challenged myself with a year long series of honors algebra course, in which group theory, ring theory and Galois theory were covered. The homework sets and take home exams in this course horned my skills of solving hard math problems. With limited clues for each problem, I had to review related definitions and theorems carefully, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, this concept hasn t always had a name, in fact, historian Jim Cullen is of the belief that the term was not coined until 1931, when James T. Adams wrote a book on the history of the United States which he originally entitled The American Dream. The title did not pass publishers due to the thinking that no one would purchase a book about one man s dream of the nation (Gay and Deibel). In the words of Jacob Needleman, America has betrayed the dream many, many times, but come back to the ideal, it s still alive and it s struggling. People want it, but they don t know what to think about it (Gay and Deibel). Needleman s statement is exactly on point. The American Dream is built on our common roots and moral values that built this nation and strengthened our early leaders, and enabled the likes of John D. Rockefeller to succeed. Rockefeller was an example of this idea of the American Dream in that he improved his life despite his upbringing, he improved his life through his business and the love of his family, he improved the lives of others through his charity work, and he achieved great things through the innovations and works that were done in the oil industry. But even through this, the words and works of those who did the opposite of what he did muddied his reputation and allowed for the formation of revisionist history that has hindered that thing which we call the American Dream. And it is because of small things like this, we as Americans have lost sight of the American Dream. It is no longer attainable, because we have lost our common roots, our moral values, and more importantly our sight of God. All of these things built this nation, our people, and it constructed that idea we call The American ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

So this leaves us with a choice; either we continue taking the quick fix , or we take action by permanently abolishing corporal punishment. No one wants to treat children, the future of our country, with just a quick fix that ca hurt them in the long run .(DS) So we need to confront the problem head on by taking action and finding other means of punishment. • 22. Relationship Between The Tang And Song Empire The Tang and Song Empires were two very powerful empires that ruled China after the Han and Sui Dynasties. The Han Dynasty left China fragmented for centuries, and the Sui Dynasty reunified China until the Turks from Inner Asia assassinated the son who ruled. The Tang filled the political vacuum in 618 with emperor Li Shimin (r. 626 649) who extended his power into westward Inner Asia. The Tang kept many Sui governing practices but avoided overcentralization with giving nobles, gentry, and religious establishments power. The Tang Empire fell after the An Lushan and Huang Chao rebellions that left the society homeless, a refugee, or a migrant worker. The empire fell in 907 after a warlord terminated their line. However, the Song Empire had arisen in 960 and paid tribute to the Liao, who controlled the north. The Song Empire aligned with the Jurchens, who ended up creating the Jin Empire, to destroy the Liao capital. The Song Empire was betrayed by the Jurchens and ended up having to pay tribute to them, which some historians refer to as the Southern Song period (1127 1279). The Song Empire declined in the year 1126. The Tang and the Song had a variety of economic, political, and social accomplishments, some that they shared, and some that they didn t. • 23. Theory Application Of Learning Mechanisms Of Change... Theorist Theory Description Characteristics of the Theory Process Application of Learning Mechanisms of Change Reaction when theory is applied Basic Observation Outcomes Bandura (1977) Social Learning Theory: Albert Bandura s Social Learning Theory believes that learning occurs in a social context through observation, imitation, and direct instruction. It comprises of attention, retention, reproduction, and motivation. *Attention *Retention *Reproduction *Motivation *Attention this implies that to accurately learn by observation, a person must pay attention to the person doing the modeling and should steer away from any possible distraction. *Retention this is a poignant part of the social learning process as the behavior may have been observed, but it is not always remembered which thus prevents imitation or mimicry (McLeod, 2006). *Reproduction this is the process where the student practices the recently learned behavior, and it is majorly dependent on the physical capabilities of the observer to reproduce the behavior. *Motivation a person has to value the benefit of continuously performing the action. Therefore, this development is often driven by positive reinforcement for demonstrating the behavior correctly or punishment for applying the behavior inappropriately (Sincero, 2011). Bandura s Social Learning Theory has been used to understand the behavior of children in a social setting. For example, a new student who observes how his/her peers ... Gainsborough, A Story of a Painter and an Era Essay Gainsborough, A Story of a Painter and an Era To be able to appraise the originality of eighteenth century English art, one must recognize its importance in history. A great painter to research is Thomas Gainsborough. His artwork was an important aspect of the art community of the middle seventeen hundreds. His paintings seem to bring brightness and color to a period in art that needed his creative boost. His combination of portrait paintings along with beautiful landscapes was not recognized in his time, but would be recognized as remarkable later in history. Thomas Gainsborough was born in 1727 in the town of Sudbury in Suffolk (Internet 1). He grew up as the son of a woodworking father and his mother was a teacher. He had 7 ... He was fond of drawing trees grass and other objects that would not be found in an indoor studio. He was not the first to draw backgrounds in his paintings; many have done this before him. His task was to paint a background that was just as important as the subjects do but not distract either. By painting outdoors, his paintings became much more colorful that most paintings of the past (Woodall 32). Brighter paintings were much improvement over the paintings of the past. They were very eye appealing and much more noticeable. Gainsborough s untrained painter s eye did not effect the outcome of his paintings; he was painting from his heart. He painted whatever his eyes saw; in most cases the outcome of his paintings were a perfect mix of background and foreground. People began to start noticing his artwork even though he did not have a degree or formal education in art; this was very promising to the young painter. His work slowly moved up into the great artwork of the city. His name was becoming known all around. He can begin his career with the bright colors he added to the scenery of the painting. One superb example of where the colors and scenery effected a painting is in the painting Mr. and Mrs. Andrews. In my first examination of the painting, many questions were brought up. • 26. My Family As An Extended Family Introduction From an early age I placed a very high value on being a part of my family. At first it was most likely feeling safe and secure. That being said, I had the logical realization that family was important. Of special importance were grandparents and the extended family members. Being born in a town where both sets of grandparents resided in addition to all the rest of my extended family was very comforting to me. Being the first born grandchild had its advantages. I became very attached to all the grandparents and enjoyed love, attention and quality time frequently until the first grade when we moved. When my younger sister was born, I never felt replaced or left out because of the quality time my grandparents invested in me. Even after my family moved a state away we always went back for holidays, birthdays and summer vacations. I have a great deal of wonderful memories from my childhood. My mother s father, my grandfather, was a very large presence in the community. He was well respected in both the white as well as the black community in which he owned a grocery store. This was unusual because there was a lot of racial tension and discrimination in Southern Alabama in the 1960 s. He was a tall man at six foot five and was a hard worker. He often bailed people out of jail and helped them with food when they were financially strapped anonymously. He was a Sunday school teacher and had good moral values. I learned later that before I came along he had been an alcoholic, a smoker, had been known for his quick temper, was not religious and had been unfaithful to my grandmother. As it was told to me, one Sunday morning he got up, got dressed, went to church and never took another drink or smoked again and was a radically changed man. He became a kind, caring, charitable person. He was more of a father to me in many ways than my dad and we had long talks in which he stressed the important things in life. He and my grandmother took my sister and I fishing on the lake. We camped in the camper. We stayed for vacations at the Gulf of Mexico. The stories he told, lessons I learned and loving affection he genuinely offered is something I consider a gift I have never forgotten. The reason I never forgot is ... Why Fluoride Is Dangerous And Harmful Rationale: Most people would like to control what they consume, and even though this is becoming harder with unmarked labeling and chemical additives, governments and councils all over the globe are adding chemicals such as fluoride into city water supplies. The public is told that it is just to conserve their health but we have created the illusion for ourselves that fluoride is added for other reasons, I.E. population control and to lower our IQ. So why are governments doing this? I thought that it would be interesting to find out why fluoride is added to our water and if it is really necessary. Intro: Most people know fluoride as a chemical added to water and toothpaste to improve dental health. Some people believe that fluoride is vital to the growth and maintenance of out teeth but others say fluoride is dangerous and harmful even when diluted. So what are the reasons behind adding this supposed poison to our water supply and do we really need it? Well I believe we need fluoride, and this document should help to explain why. What Is Fluoride: Fluorine is an element in the many fluoride compounds that are commonly added to water supplies and dental products to rebuild and reinforce the enamel on our teeth. With time and constant usage, the metal in your garage door springs change and weaken. This reduced lifting power means the motor must do more work to make up the difference. If one of the springs break, then its share of the work (very roughly 50% of the door weight) is taken up by the motor. This strains the motor and other mechanical components. The door gets heavier. This happens when you add more weight to the door. Insulating a large door for example, can add significant weight. Strengthening kits that protect doors from high winds, and especially home made door strengtheners or stiffeners will add substantial weight. Efforts at making your door more secure such as heavy duty locks and latches, window security bars, and metal or wood shields that prevent hanger wire break ins also add weight. The Balance Test Checking your garage door for proper balance involves a simple test. With the door closed, pull on the manual release cord to disconnect the door from its opener system. All the way to the left, we have liberals who believe in a big government and a government that is involved with supporting the people and curbing social inequalities and social hierarchy while supporting social equality. On the other side of the spectrum we have right wing conservatives who prefer a government that is small and call for reduced social spending, less regulation.
