communication for effective learning
What is collaborative learning?

groups of learners working together to solve a
problem, complete a task or create a product. It is
based on the idea that learning is naturally a social
act in which the participants talk among themselves.
It is through talk or communication that learning
occurs.
Some approaches to collaborative
learning:
 Learners understand the information and relate this new knowledge to a
framework of prior knowledge.
 Learning requires a challenge that opens the door for the learners to actively
engage with his/her peers and to process and synthesize information rather
than memorize and regurgitate it.
 Learners benefit when exposed to different points of view from people with
different backgrounds.
 Learning flourishes in a social environment where conversation between
learners takes place. During this time, the learner creates a framework and
meaning to this discourse.
