Cold War Essay Topics
Crafting an essay on the subject of "Cold War Essay Topics" can present a formidable challenge.
The Cold War, spanning roughly five decades, was a complex geopolitical confrontation between
the United States and the Soviet Union, characterized by ideological differences, military build-
up, proxy wars, and nuclear brinkmanship. Its multifaceted nature makes selecting a specific
angle or theme for an essay a daunting task.
Firstly, delving into the historical nuances and geopolitical intricacies demands extensive
research. Understanding the root causes, major events, key players, and their motivations is
essential for providing a comprehensive analysis. Moreover, navigating through the diverse
perspectives and interpretations from historians, policymakers, and scholars adds layers of
complexity to the task.
Furthermore, formulating a thesis that is both original and insightful requires critical thinking and
analytical prowess. Identifying a compelling argument amidst the vast scholarship on the Cold
War necessitates careful consideration and intellectual rigor. Additionally, crafting a coherent
structure to present the argument effectively while integrating evidence and analysis is no small
feat.
Moreover, grappling with the ethical dimensions and legacy of the Cold War adds another layer
of complexity. Addressing questions of morality, responsibility, and lessons learned requires
sensitivity and nuance. Balancing different viewpoints and acknowledging the human cost of the
conflict further complicates the writing process.
In conclusion, tackling an essay on "Cold War Essay Topics" is undoubtedly a challenging
endeavor. From extensive research to crafting a compelling argument and addressing ethical
considerations, the task demands intellectual rigor and analytical finesse. However, despite its
difficulties, delving into this crucial period of history offers valuable insights into the
complexities of global politics and human nature.

Compare And Contrast Jamestown And The Plymouth
Plantation
Comparing Jamestown and the Plymouth Plantation
Massachusetts Plymouth Plantation and Virginia s Jamestown are two of the most
written about and renowned colonies ever built in America. Most notably, each of
these colonies had very famous leaders: Captain John Smith was the leader of
Jamestown, and William Bradford from the Plymouth Plantation. Not only did each
of the colonies corresponding communities have differences grounded in their own
purpose for traveling across the waters, but both communities also displayed
similarities in their motivations for making America their new home. First, the
many people who headed towards Jamestown and Plymouth were people of status
and wealth. These people were the small percentile that could afford to travel and
pay the incredibly high fee for such a travel. Coming into America was a chance
for them to explore new found territory and experience life without the rules of the
monarchy that was held in England. As a first look at their leaders, Jamestown s
Captain Smith was a dangerous man and very powerful one, and so much so that
he authorized people to brutally murder his own soldiers and would threaten
people s lives if they did not want to be a part of his ship s crew. Fascinatingly
enough, Smith was a good leader to many Native tribes in different regions of the
world; he helped by supplying these communities with food and weapons.
Consequently, all of his good deeds would end up winning him the respect and
admiration of these
Summary Of John Knowles A Separate Peace
A Separate Peace by John Knowles tells a story of the external and internal wars a
person experiences in their lifetime. During the summer session of 1942 at Devon
Academy, introverted student Gene Forrester follows in the footsteps of his carefree
yet ambitious best friend, Phineas. Gene starts to envy Finny s charisma rather than
admire. The growth of his selfish desires to transform into Finny contradicts Gene s
morality, creating an internal conflict. Knowles conveys one s selfishness causes
decisions to be based on self concern rather than the well being of others. For
instance, Gene chooses to lie to Finny and the other boys during the mock trial to
avoid confrontation. He believes conflict would allow Finny to change his perception

Then at last Finny straightened from this prayerful position slowly; as though it
was painful for him (Knowles 172). Here, Gene s decision to lie to Finny reveals
his selfish and deceitful side overpowering his morality. He lies to preserve the
untainted image that Finny held of him. He completely disregards the impact it
would have on Finny when he inevitably found out the truth from someone other
than him. When Gene did not return [Finny s] look it reveals his immediate guilt
and shame because he recognizes that this would have a negative impact not only
on Finny, but their friendship. In addition, Gene s selfish desires to fulfill his
satisfaction forces him to feel the necessity to shake the tree branch. Gene admits,
[Finny] had never been jealous of me for a second. Now I knew that there never
was and never could have been any rivalry between us. I was not of the same
quality as he. I couldn t stand this (Knowles 59). In the moments leading up to
Finny s fall, Gene realizes the mutual rivalry and enmity between him and Finny
does not exist. Finny has no real enemy, re establishing Gene s inferiority to him
knowing his morals are not of the same quality as [Finny s]. His realization that he
remains inferior angers Gene and causes him to reveal his spitefulness when he shook
the tree
Philosophy Of Transactional Leadership

Leadership
Even though leadership dates back centuries, it is critical for leaders to display
qualities that differentiate them from followers (p. 5). To encourage student success,
it is important to practice theories and methodologies that help institution s and
individuals become successful leaders with superior qualities. Transformational and
transactional leadership are two terms that discussed throughout business and
education. Transactional leadership is defined as trading one thing for another (quid
pro quo) , whereas transformational leadership is more focused on change (p. 14).

1). Research indicated the importance of active learning strategies, over the past few
years, to help maximize the student s education. A well written lesson plan can cover
the course content, maintain student attention, and incorporate the knowledge and
skills the student needs to learn. A skilled educator can scrutinize the learning
situation and differentiate instruction by using all the available resources. I think, to
help facilitate learning, teachers should encourage students to be more responsible
for their own education by engaging them to participate in individual or group
activities, including collaboration with other students, hands on activities, reading,
writing, and verbal presentations. As an educator, I will concentrate on strategies that
promote collaboration, cooperation, and communication. I will concentrate on
reading strategies that help students comprehend what they read. Reading strategies
such as, the before, during, and after reading strategy can be used for reading
comprehension. I can use this reading strategy the first time a new story is read.
Before reading the story, I can preview the story by discussing the topic, using key
vocabulary words, activating the student s prior knowledge, and setting the purpose
for reading. During the reading passage, I will stop and use context clues to help

Essay on Car Safety
Car Safety Automobile Safety
It s a dark rainy night. You and your family are coming home from a late night
family party. As a car is coming through an intersection another car cut in front of
it. The driver decides to hit the brakes so you can avoid the car, but as he presses
the brakes, the car loses control on the slick wet road. He is not able to gain
control and at that point he has endangered the lives of himself and many others on
the road. This is just one example of the many types of things that occur in our
streets everyday. All that would have been needed to avoid this situation would have
been a traction control system in his car, which would have detected that the car was
skidding and would have applied the brakes to ... Show more content on

Along with accidents not only comes a little headache or a broken bone, but
injuries that stay with you forever such as whiplash and brain damage. Most brain
damage incidents occur when you are involved in a side impact collision and the
side of your head hits the glass (brain injury). Side impact airbags are just one of
the many ways in which this type of life threatening injury can be avoided
(whiplash). There is also whiplash, which hurls your head violently, and usually
results in long term disability. Since whiplash is so hard to avoid, it can only be
avoided by reducing the number of accidents on the streets. Also one of the most
painful and most traumatizing injuries that we encounter in accidents are bone
fractures, which occur in 65% of all accidents (Bush 11). So in turn by making these
cars safer we can all avoid these painful, traumatizing, life threatening injuries.
Seat belts although they are the most effective safety device on cars must be made
safer. Out of all people who died in car accidents, 63% of those were not wearing seat
belts (seatbelts). This goes to show you the effectiveness of seat belt. Therefore
automotive manufactures must mandate the installation of 5 point seatbelt on all
cars. In all major race car organization such as NASCAR (National Association Stock
Car Automotive Racing) they require these 5 point seat belt. Which is nothing more
than a seatbelt that is buckled in 5 spots rather that the conventional 3.
The Google Android Operating System
The Google Android Operating System To fully understand the Google Android
operating system, you must look back beyond the development of the very first
version of the Android OS. In 1999, former manufacturing engineer at Apple, Andy
Rubin, joined with two other men, Matt Hershenson and Joe Britt, to found
Danger Inc. The company aimed to provide hardware and software for mobile
devices. Their most notable device was the T Mobile Sidekick. The company
spearheaded the idea of a client server model and is credited with the creation of the
App Marketplace. Danger Inc. was sold in 2008 to Microsoft, but the idea of the
AndroidOS was brewing several years before this. In 2003, Rubin made the
decision to leave Danger Inc. to work on Android. For several years, Rubin funded
his ideas out of pocket and did not produce any new products. His aim was similar to
that of Danger s to revolutionize smartphone software and open source development
of ideas previously started by Danger. Android came from Linux, but has since
become an independent operating system.
2005 came around and Android had still not put out its first product. Rubin s focus
was on web connected experiences and to create an environment where developers
could apply their skills. This new idea attracted investors, namely Google. Google
was interested in staying competitive with the big companies in the smartphone
market at the time Blackberry and Microsoft. The idea that sparked Google s interest
was the open source
Aristotle’s Poetics Influence on the Ancient World
Aristotle presents the argument that tragedies are superior to epics. While tragedies
and epics are characterized in similar ways they also have their differences. A
tragedy, then, is the imitation of an action that is serious and also, as having
magnitude, complete in itself; in language with pleasurable accessories, each kind
brought in separately in the parts of the work; in a dramatic, not in a narrative form;
with incidents arousing pity and fear, wherewith to accomplish its catharsis of such
emotions. (Aristotle, 6) A Tragedyis better at arousing emotion in an audience than en
epic through the plot, characters, thought, diction, melody, and spectacle. The first
point the plot is the arrangement of the incidents. The plot... Show more content on

Thought literally deals with what is being said throughout the tragedy. It is assumed
this category also includes the themes of a tragedy. Themes can be viewed as the
overall lesson from the story. When the theme is thought about, emotions surface
and are related to everyday life. Thought is shown whenever a point is proven or a
truth is revealed. The power of saying whatever needs to be said at that point in time.
The arts of politics and rhetoric fall under this category in tragedies as speeches. At
times thought can be confused with character, but character exposes the moral
purpose. Thought validates or invalidates a particular circumstance. The fourth
point diction is the choice along with the use of words and phrases. In cases of
tragedy this could be speaking or singing. It is the composition of lines recited that
deal with how the lines are said. Verses that are fully understood and do not need
explaining. Diction is easier to overcome when used in a tragedy even if it does
not present a tragic effect. The fifth point melody is the utmost pleasurable piece of
a tragedy. By definition a melody is a sequence of single notes that is musically
satisfying. During a tragedy the melody is used as a musical accompaniment to
blend with the play appropriately. Therefore according to Aristotle the chorus should
be regarded as one of the actors (14). While the melody is a main component of
tragedies, it is not even used within epics, therefore making
What I Don t Have A Single Identity
Daughter, student, journalist, sister, Catholic, middle class that s just scratching
the surface of what my identity is. As author Barbara Ryan points out, I know I
don t have a single identity and I know it is not fixed, but I wasn t quite sure of
what identity politics was. Thankfully, Ryan did a great job of explaining how our
identities, as well as how we perceive other s identities, or how we allow for people
s identities to affect the way we act think of and act toward them, can affect social
movements. People s identities can also lead to the fragmentation of people of a
social movement who might have a common goal. Reading this introduction and now
better understanding how identities can aid in the buffering of people... Show more

I knew that the ideas I came up with would be difficult to achieve on my own, but I
knew that with others, they were plausible. Because I ve has classes with my group
members for four years now, I was comfortable enough with getting started with my
idea sharing right away, but what if I hadn t known these other women as well?
Would I have looked at their identities (skin color, socioeconomic status based on
how they dressed, etc.), assumed certain things based on those identities, and then let
those assumptions get in the group s way of cohesively working toward a common,
shared goal? Maybe, and that s scary. Identity is of course important, for it helps us
better understand ourselves and each other, but once we let identity create barriers
between us and section us off into homogenous groups, such a strong focus on
identity can, as Ryan suggests, prevent us from uniting with those working on a
similar issue. Women are already marginalized, so let s not marginalize each other
even further. That s my goal this semester.

Lack Of Ethic With A More Positive Stance
Lack Of Ethic Understanding in IRB = Lack Of Care In Research
Why A Public Anthropology? addresses the issue about why cultural anthropology is
not affective by its current stance of not doing any ethical harm and into more detail
explains why IRB s should make notions to move towards a more positive stance of
doing good. Throughout the explanation of ethical violations from five given cases,
the details will prove why these violations emphasize that the review board s current
stance of do no harm is an ethically ambiguous position . Even with anthropologists
going in with the intentions of not doing harm result in the exact opposite; including
national governments who try to avoid ethical issues end up just over regulating
research studies. These actions limit researcher ability to do well and cause
additional problems. IRB s focus on positive results is based on monetary value and
time however this does not show respect and sensitivity. In the reading of this
research I conclude it is due to the lack of similarity to the participants of the study
leads to lack of care and treatment, thus threatening their wellbeing leads to the ethical
issues in research cases and regulation. To solve this problem, Institutional Review
Boards and Review Ethics Boards should create a set of common rules, these rules
could easily differentiate what between what is what is and what is not ethical
behavior and additionally it would facilitate all types of data in research projects that

Monty Python and the Holy Grail satirizes courtly love and chivalry as portrayed in
Sir Gawain and the Green Knight and the film First Knight in many diverse ways.
Satire is the use of irony, sarcasm, ridicule; it can be shown in an amusing tone or in
a way that provokes a darker kind of laughter. The literary technique known as satire
was used in the film Monty Python and the Holy Grail when making fun of easily
identified common medieval themes such as chivalry and courtly love.Monty Python
and the Holy Grail is intended to be more of a sarcastic piece, which is why it pokes
fun at the more earnest works that feature King Arthur. In Sir Gawain and the Green
Knight and First Knight, Sir Gawain and Lancelot both display what can be consid
ered faultless examples of courtly love and chivalry.

An example of proper chivalry is being tough and having courage and self sacrifice.
In Monty Python and the Holy Grail, the Black Death/Bubonic Plague was taunted
which can relate to how death is an aspect in all noble journeys. These jourmeys do
not neces sarily cause death, but death is very well associated with long quests and is
something almost every knight will see or experience. This ties into having courage
and being tough. In the movie, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, King Arthur is
going about crossing a bridge on his excursion, but a black knight refuses to let him
pass. King Arthur then pro ceeds to battle him, so he can continue his quest. When
the battle is over, the black knight is missing both arms and legs, but continues to
badmouth Arthur in hopes that the battle will continue. This is tremendously satirical
because the knight was still living, speaking, and fighting after having his limbs
severed. Realistically, that may not be possible. In Sir Gawain and the Green Knight,

predict and manage program expenditures by setting a fixed payment amount to
groups of services. The outpatient prospective payment system classifies hospital
outpatient services into Ambulatory Payment Classifications. Ambulatory Payment
Classifications are assigned by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services and
are updated annually. Ambulatory Payment Classifications are services that are

Hospitals are subject to a 2% reduction in the annual payment if they do not meet
certain requirements of the Quality Data Reporting criteria. If the hospital does meet
the criteria, there is a financial incentive they can receive. With most of the services,
the patient will pay the deductible for that year. Once the patient meets the deductible,
Medicare pays the rest of the charges, less the copay or coinsurance the patient must
meet. On certain services, such as a screening mammogram, the patient is not liable
for a deductible. The Outpatient Prospective Payment System pays for services that
are designated as outpatient hospital services, partial hospitalization services,
hepatitis B vaccines and their administration, casts, splints, and initial preventative
physical exams that are received within the first 12 months of the Medicare Part B
coverage becoming effective. Other services that are included are x rays, stitches,
hospital charges for an emergency room visit, surgeries that are done on an outpatient
basis, observation services due to an illness or injury and the administration of certain
drugs that you cannot give

Drone Attacks
Little do we know the struggles we cause. As a young child my brother joined the
armed forces, searching for a sense of purpose in life. He went off with dignity,
with great dreams of coming home covered in medals and scars. He used to carry a
little diary, with a crimson cover and a cracked spine, and on the inside of the cover
was a handwritten quote, of which it read Whoever said the pen is mightier than the
sword obviously never encountered automatic weapons. After fourteen months of
close encounters and hard fought battles in the withered, war ridden southern
Pakistan, he returned, not only with new medals and scars, but a new quote in his

The US has conducted over four hundred drone strikes in Pakistan alone since.
From these attacks, estimates state that between 700 and 900 civilians have died.
This is almost one quarter of the total deaths from these strikes, and these people
have died from no transgression. These people live in fear, earning small amounts
of money, living small, innocent lives. However no life on our earth can be small
enough to die for no good reason. Since 2004, there have been less than 50
recorded civilian deaths in the US that have been conducted by Islamic extremist
groups, not just groups from Pakistan. These attacks do serve a purpose, however
the cost of human life is too great. Those affected by drone attacks do not have the
power to stop this. It s down to me, it s down to you and it s down to us. Not only
do these attacks not benefit the greater good, but they stir anger amongst the locals,
raising desire for revenge. As long as we terrorize others, it is inevitable that others
will terrorize us. Therefore it is us that fuels terrorism. Those who lose family
members or friends will not blame extremists, but will blame us, and join any force

The Similarities Between Sierra Leone And Mendes Culture
Sierra Leone is an African country where historically, multiple cultures have
survived. Since the feudal and monarchal systems arrived in the region dating back
to the 15th century, the Temne and Mendes cultures flourished (Coleman, 2014). The
Mendes culture was entangled with many beliefs and discoveries. The culture was
complex and known for medicines, ancestral worship, a belief in God, masked spirit
manifestations and secret societies (Coleman, 2014). The Temne culture is known for
the agriculture of rice and a system of laws (Coleman, 2014). In the 1787, the British
established itself in West Africa. Sierra Leone was able to endure the British influence
better than its region counterparts, because from 1825 to 1896 adopted the Temne
political system with the purpose of indirect rule (Coleman, 2014). In 1961, Sierra

The Health Insurance Portability And Accountability Act (...
Most of us are familiar with The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act
(HIPAA), as the federal law that ensures protection and security of patients personal
and health information. Its initial purpose was to protect transmittal of electronic
health information as technology began replacing paper (records, communications,
and such.) While our personal information is being protected, and it prevents
insurance companies from using this information against us when they are
determining rates, how does this affect health research? The initial reaction by many
researchers to the implementation of HIPAA rules was that research efforts would be
hampered due to the difficulty and perhaps inability to gather patient health

Impact of HIPAA on Health Research
The implementation of HIPAA, specifically the final rule, known as the Standards
for Privacy of Individually Identifiable Information: 45 cfr parts 160 and 164, was
intended to assure that individuals health information is properly protected while
allowing the flow of health information needed to provide and promote high quality
health care and to protect the public s health and well being. (Secretary, H. O. n.d.).
Researchers complied with the HIPAA ruling by implementing collection of waivers,
consent forms, and surveys, which required approval by an Institutional Review Board
(IRB) before data could be used. It appears that for the most part, with proper
documentation and proper review and authorization of the documentation, HIPAA
has not hindered researchers in their data collection from patients. However, there are
those who believed that the implementation of HIPAA had negative repercussions in
regards to data collection in regards to health research.
Mitigation of HIPAA roadblocks with Waivers
Bob Brown, PhD, director of Health Informatics at Michigan State University

Ironically, I was not always interested in the psychology and counseling field. My
first two years of undergraduate school I was a Mathematics major until I took
Advanced Calculus and decided that Math was not for me. Then I began taking
more and more Psychology courses as electives and realized that I had found the
information interesting. After speaking with my father, I made the decision to
pursue a career in this field while also following in his footsteps. My main reason
for wanting to counselor individuals, families, and groups is because I enjoy
helping people and I would like to see them overcome their current issues. Also, I
enjoy reading about psychology and counseling. Honestly, I am more passionate
about studying the field of counseling than I am practicing it. I feel that my journey
may lead me to researching. But throughout my career, I plan to display
professionalism to help my clients. Professionalism is one of the most important
aspects of counseling. Lacking professionalism may potentially cause harm to the
client. In my opinion, professionalism begins and ends with the code of ethics. I feel
that if you abide by the code of ethics you have nothing worry about regarding
professionalism. The code of ethics summarizes the standards of integrity,
professionalism, and confidentiality. A counselor is supposed to abide by the legal
and moral standards of the community (Grold, 1996). All professionals should dress

Politically, governments are changing how Infrastructure spending is allocated.
More taxpayer dollars are being spent on mass transit initiatives such as the City of

It is mentioned earlier that there are no locations in Saskatchewan, Manitoba and
much of their target market in the United States. Fix Auto needs to focus on their
primary objective of becoming the North American auto body repair chain. Fix Auto
is experiencing overexpansion. Overexpansion often occurs when business owners
confuse success with how fast they can expand their business (Schaefer, 2006,
Overexpansion.). In a 2005 study done by the Law School at the University of
Chicago, It was found that of the chapter 11 small business Bankruptcies issued in
the United States, overexpansion contributed to a non trivial (Baird Morrison, 2005,

If Fix Auto desires to maximize corporate efficiency, they need to begin operating the

Raymond Carver Cathedral
What attitudes define the narrator throughout much of the story? What is his
attitude toward his wife, toward Robert, toward his own experience and the
experience of others? The short story Cathedral written by Raymond Carver is
about a blind widower, his good friend and old employee, and the good friend s
husband. The narrator of the story is the husband of the widower s friend and the
thoughts and feelings from him portray a man who is fearful of the unknown. The
author does a wonderful job portraying the idea that the narrator has a slight bit of
prejudice and even jealousy towards the blind widower, Robert. This is made
apparent in many of the comments the narrator makes including the suggestion to
take the man bowling, even though he is aware that bowling is not a kind or proper

the readers that his only understanding of anyone suffering from blindness comes
from the movies. This understanding paints all blind people as unhappy individuals
who never find the time to smile (Page 94). The narrator takes on an annoyed
attitude towards his wife and the whole of the situation. He behaves as if he could
not be bothered to take an interest in this widower regardless of his wife s
attachment to the man. Even though his wife seems to not care about the blind man
whose recorded tapes seemingly saved her life after a bought of depression almost

The Grand Illusion in The Great Gatsby Essay
The American dream is a farce. Hopeful American children and quixotic foreigners

This anticipation of joy will never come to fruition, and all these unfortunate people

really they have been chasing cars, because the American dream is not something one

Many of the guests at the parties are not even invited, and Nick believe that [He]
was one of the few guests who had actually been invited (Fitzgerald 41). At Gatsby
s parties, avid people seeking wealth and social status want to climb up the social
ladder by talking to those who are put in high places by birth, and to do this,
people simply ignored the common courtesy of not attending a party they are not
wanted at, and just went to his parties. Money makes the world go round, and even
when the world seems to be joyous and blissful, like at Gatsby s parties, there are
still the unseen gears of greed at work, out to snatch a dollar even in a place they
are not even wanted at in the first place. Although Gatsby s parties may seem to be
the best example of honest fun in the 1920 s, they are paid for by nothing but the

Little Italy Informative Speech
Hello everyone. Before I begin my presentation, I d like to talk about a phrase,
which is, as you see, Little Italy. Little Italy is a general name for an ethnic enclave
populated primarily by Italians or people of Italian ancestry. These enclaves became
known for their ethnic associations, and cities with Little Italyblossomed, becoming
the icons they are today.
The city I m going to talk about is the region with the greatest amount of Little Italies
in America, the New York City. Thus, the topic today is Italian Americans in NYC.
Before World War One, people in Southern Italy had a hard time. Due to tax burden,
soil erosion and military conscription lasting seven years, a large exodus left from
southern Italy heading to the USA. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This trend has continued to the present day. The stereotype of Italian Americans has
been fostered especially through commercially successful movies like The
Godfather, Goodfellas and Casino; and TV programs such as The Sopranos. In
actuality, as recent FBI statistics shows, only one IA in 6,000 has any involvement
with organized crime.
The mass media has consistently ignored five centuries of Italian American history,
and has elevated what was never more than a minute subculture to the dominant
Italian American culture.
Of course IA in NYC protested against the negative portrayal of their community
and sued the producers but failed most of the time. To be exact, not only Italian
Americans in New York City protested against the stereotype, it s a problem in the
whole country. It s kind of a dilemma as the stereotype has rooted in the mind of
Americans and even people in other countries. That leaves us a problem to solve in
the future.

The author, Jackie Stacey is a British feminist film historian. The main goal of her
research is to understand the specific pleasure and engagements of British cinema
audiences in the 1940s and 1950s. Stacey received 350 letters from women who
went to the cinema 2 3 times a week during this period of wartime as cinema going
was at an all time high. Within the book, Stacey discusses Laura Mulvey s Male Gaze
and how Mulvey s analysis of the pleasures of Hollywood cinema led her to
conclude that the spectator position offered is a masculine one. She talks about how
there are 3 looks within the dominant mode of Hollywood cinema; the camera(man),
the editor and the director. She emphasizes on how all of these looks work together
to create the effect of seeing the female characters as objects of desire through the
eyes of the male characters.
However, Stacey argues that women do not have to adopt the dominant masculine
position offered by the text in order to gain pleasure from looking at the female
characters. Stacey describes Mulvey s work as an attack on the visual pleasures of
Hollywood cinema (page 24). She broadens her argument to state the distance
between spectator and screen contributes to the voyeuristic pleasure of ... Show more

Pathophysiology Of Alcoholism And Addictive Disorders
1.Describe the pathophysiology of alcoholism and addictive disorders.
The pathophysiology of alcoholism begins after alcohol the ingestion of alcohol. It is
absorbed and unaltered through the stomach and intestines. Next it is distributed
throughout the body through the blood and absorbed by all tissues and fluids
(Huether, 2012, p. 72). Furthermore, in the liver the alcohol blood content is
metabolized into acetaldehyde by the enzymes process of alcohol dehydrogenase
(ADH), the microsomal ethanol oxidizing system (MEOS), and catalase (Huether
McCance, 2012). Next, the metabolizing effects the central nervous system (CNS)
and exhibits a depressant action. It is first expressed in the subcortical structures of
the brain. This has an effect of disorientation of motor skills and intellect. With an
increase in blood alcohol concentration, the medullary centers become depressed and
as a result affects respiration (Huether McCance, 2012). In addition, the effects of
alcoholism encourage hepatic and gastric changes. The hepatic effect is caused by
acetaldehyde, in which, induces inflammation, fatty deposits and enlargement of the
liver (Huether McCance, 2012).
2.Discuss the concept of tolerance to alcohol and the diagnostic criteria for alcohol
/substance abuse.
Individual tolerance vary upon their ability to metabolize alcohol. Genetics has been
proven to influence the metabolic rate of alcohol in the liver. Furthermore, this affects
the metabolism of alcohol depending on

if their life is not worth living, why force them to live if they don t want to . Another
example is it says that people with grievous and irremediable suffering are entitled to

The Advantages Of Database Management Systems
Assignment 1
Matthew Fisher
May 15, 2016
Part 1: Database Concepts
Topic 1: The Advantages of Database Management Systems
A database system would offer the innkeepers several advantages over the flat file
system, including enforced data integrity, minimized effort to adapt data into usable
information, and abstraction.
Storing data in a flat file system, as the innkeepers do, and accessing the data
directly pose problems of data integrity. Anomalous data could easily arise if the
innkeepers update a record in one file, but do not take care to update related records
in other files. Where data are kept in multiple, separate files, but have a conceptual
relationship to each other, a file system is of limited use compared to a database
management system (DBMS). A DBMS ensures that relationships between entities
are enforced.
By way of example, a GUEST entity might have a GUEST_ID attribute that
appears in multiple locations (e.g. a RESERVATIONS entity). In the file system
model, the innkeepers may choose to store addresses of guests in both GUEST and
RESERVATION files in order to quickly access address information while booking
reservations. If the address is updated in one place, but not the other, this results in a
data anomaly, where the address attributes for a guest do not agree. A well designed
database using a DBMS could circumvent this issue by storing no guest information
in the RESERVATION table other than GUEST_ID. With this relationship, guests
addresses can still

Comprehensive Best Practices for a Pharmaceutical Drug Product Manufacturing
Company
The chosen industry is a Pharmaceutical drug manufacturing company. The
Pharmaceutical drug product manufacturing company is one of the most sensitive
industry, and due care must be taken to run the business. Comprehensive best practice
policy applies to all workplaces. However with concern to health and hygiene for the
public the drug industry plays a very essential role in one are day to day life
activities. This policy is essential as it provides appropriate assistance in maintaining
a best working environment without any risk related to health and safety. It provides
information to all employees as how such physical working environment can be
provided.
Sanitation
Cleanliness plays an important role in every business, especially sanitation in drug
product segment (Sandle, 2014). There is an expectation of higher standard of
hygienic sanitation practices. It applies to the entire premises, all employees,
apparatus, equipment, carrying containers, materials used for production, cleansing
and antiseptic productions, etc. in the process of manufacturing a drug. It is essential
to avoid any sources of contamination.
WHO has provided a detailed integrated program related to both hygiene and
sanitation practices (UNICEF, 1998), which can be implemented in an effective
manner. It is essential for all employees in the workplace to wear hygienic cloth,
head caps, gloves, glasses (when
Can Hybrid Cars Can Improve Fuel Efficiency And Save
The...
Can hybrid cars can improve fuel efficiency and save the environment? A debate
has recently arisen; are hybrid automobiles that much more fuel efficient than the
average car, and is the higher sticker price worth the investment? Questions have
also been asked about the hope of reducing environmental pollution. Are
government rebates and dealer incentives worth the additional investment of
purchasing these higher priced cars? What is the adoption rate among consumers
to these automobiles? Gas mileage can be defined as: how many miles a car or
truck can travel on one gallon of gasoline (Marland English, 2015). As fossil fuels
continue to be depleted, our civilization must look at cost efficient ways to
accomplish daily tasks. Hybrid cars use a combination of the gasoline engine with
electronic motors to achieve a number of objectives. This differs from the new
totally electricity powered cars that run on charged batteries. According to
www.fueleconomy.gov; a vehicle that gets 30 MPG will cost you $545 less to fuel
each year than one that gets 20 MPG, assuming 15000 miles of driving annually
and a fuel cost of $2.18 ( Save Money , 2015). Over time this can lead to huge
savings in fuel costs to the average consumer. As oil prices continue to rise and fall,
a more fuel efficient car could provide some comfort to the financially stressed
customer. A person must take into consideration if the savings in fuel costs are worth
the higher investment price of a hybrid. On average,
Gender In The Entertainment Industry
Throughout the years, the entertainment industry has had many effects on society
such showing us what are societies expectations. One huge factor that the
entertainment industry affects is how gender is constructed and how hegemonic
masculinity is part of our gender narrative in the US. In mainstream media,
ranging from music to television, we usually see or hear women taking roles as
someone is weaker or doesn t have the same power as men. In the music industry,
women are shown as objects or property. In todays culture the music genre that has
taken over our generation is rap and hip hop. Some of the most popular male
rappers are Snoop Dog, Ice Cube, The Game and many others. These rappers have
one thing in common in their music when it comes to talking about females, which
is degrading women. Their lyrics usually consists of calling women bitches or hoes
or any other word that demeans women. Recently, a new rapper has come up and
many praise her for being a femalerapper and being on the billboards number 1 spot
for her song Bodak Yellow and her name is Cardi B. Cardi B song talks about how
she raised up fro being a stripper to now an artist known worldwide. Although
many love her song, feminist s wish that she could of made her art without bring
other women down. In Cardi B s song, she still called women and herself a bitch
and she talks about taking your man ; one of her popular lines in her song is Im a
boss you re a worker bitch . Although many have criticized Bodak yellow as being
degrading to women, realistically in todays society her song wouldn t have been a
huge hit if she didn t use terms like bitch or put herself against women. I also feel
that in todays society women are often put up against each other, instead of valuing
each other and helping each other reach our goals, women often see other women as
competition and because of this reason Bodak Yellow was number one because not
only did it appeal to men but it also related to many women who see other women as
a competition. In the television industry, women are often over sexualized, they show
what a womanshould look like and also show what roles women should have in our
society. For example, in the filmwe saw on Monday, Flirting
The Relationship Between Slaves and Their Master Essay
The dynamic of the relationships between slaves and their master was one which was
designed to undermine and demean the slave. The master exercised complete
authority and dominion over his slaves and treated them harshly. The masters
perception of blacks was that they lacked self discipline and morality. They justified
slaveryby claiming that they were training the slaves to masterself discipline through
work and also train them in the precepts of God. Not all masters were harsh and
cruel. Some treated their slaves with kindness and subsequently were well loved.
However, it still emerges that a majority of even the kindest masters still did not
attach much humane value to their slaves. This has been exemplified in that despite...

It will also seek to identify the nature of sexual relationships between masters and
their slaves. Jacobs describes an incident when at about 12 years old her mistress
had died . She explains that she and her mistress had an amicable relationship. Her
mistress had taught her that God s word required one to love one s neighbor as
themselves and hoped that her mistress would release her from bondage. Her
mistress had however bequeathed her to her five year old niece. This act caused her
much grief and made it clear that her late mistress did not quite consider her a
neighbor.
The Slave: Property
The narrative begins with the tale of Jacob s childhood. She tells tales of a
childhood oblivious to slavery being allowed to enjoy the pleasures of child s play.
Her mother died when she was six years old and was left under the mastership of
her white foster sister. On her deathbed, her mother s white sister promised to
protect her slave sister s children. While, this was true during her lifetime, upon her
death, Jacob s expected that she would be freed. Jacob s first painful realization
that despite what appeared to be a good relationship, her mistress viewed her as a
slave and did not free but bequeathed her to her five year old niece. From this point
Jacob s has a new master and mistress .
It was then that she was subjected to treatment as a slave. As a slave, she endured
cold treatment, words or looks. She was made to feel useless, inferior and inhuman.

Patterson notes that many people in the North believe in segregation. His proof is
that they live in segregated neighborhoods. He adds, It s a pitiful thing in this nation
when a man is not allowed to speak out for what he believes (p. 127). [Such
oppression has only gotten worse over the last 60 years. People have lost their jobs
for speaking out.] Patterson remarks that changes in agriculture and the economy is
making the Negro unwanted. Mechanization of agriculture and the conversion of
cotton fields to pastures for cattle are driving the Negro from the land.

Communism And Fascism Similarities
The difference between fascism and communism can be difficult to tell, other times it
s simple to tell. Fascism is a form of government in which the state has all the power.
Fascism is an authoritarian and nationalistic right wing system of government and
social organization. Communism is a form of socialism, that abolishes private
ownership of land. Communismis a member of the left wing system of government
and organization. While communism and fascism may be slightly similar, they are
different.
The idea of communism originated in a writing by Karl Marx, in which he explained
communism as a dictatorship of the proletariat. Although Marx, wrote of a perfect
dictatorship of the proletariat, this has sadly not been seen as possible. Throughout
Summary Of Floating By Karen Brennan
Guilty Living
Life is full of ups and downs, small or large, no matter who is living it. Floating by
Karen Brennan is a story about a woman who thinks she can just float away from
her realistic problems. The whole story is told through the perspective of a troubled
woman and the author did this to show that if guilt and pain eat at a person this is
what can happen and in this case it is a miscarriage of a child belonging to the woman
. The author uses symbolism to emphasize her claims on guilt. The whole story is
portrayed in first person with no names mentioned in the story because it makes it
more relatable to general and heartbroken people in society. The author displays a
woman who had a miscarriage and is torn deeply about her own loss and became
completely depressed; she is also becomes delusional and believes her baby is still
alive and is her little secret, and lastly on some deep inner level she knows that her
baby is dead and feels a tremendous amount of guilt for losing her own child. The
author shows that the miscarriage can be a metaphor for any situation in life: if
something is lost, one cannot just give up, and become completely obsessed over
memories of the past, memories were made to shape who one is not dictate the
present actions.
The woman the author portrays in Floating is married and had a happy relationship
until the miscarriage. This woman has a husband who loves and cares for her so

experiment, conducted in the basement of a Stanford University building, began
to take on a life of its own and has since gone down in infamy. This paper will look
into the person responsible for this experiment, how it was conducted and the
outcome of the infamous study. Philip Zimbardo is currently a well known and
highly regarded psychologist who received his Ph.D. from Yale. He has over 50
years of experience teaching psychology at many schools including the Naval Post

authority figures and regular people in a prisonenvironment.
To conduct his research Zimbardo created the Stanford Prison Project which was
inspired by the Milgram obedience study. The results of the Milgram obedience study
concluded that when regular ordinary people were encouraged by those in an

normal thing. The growing demand for the chicken had given my mom and dad
the idea to open a restaurant. Thus Hawaiian Brians was born. This sparked a new
era in my life and inspired me to keep moving forward to support my family in the
jump from bankruptcy to brick and mortar restaurant. This gave us a fresh start in
life. There would be more on the plate now not for just for my family but for me as
well. We eventually pulled out of bankruptcy because of the booming success of the
business. I was given opportunities that exceeded my expectations in youth. I got to
go meet my family in Hawaii and learn more about college, actually getting to
consider it now having the money to pay for it.
Haunting Of Hill House Analysis
The protagonist of Shirley Jackson s The Haunting of Hill House is Eleanor
Vance, an emotionally underdeveloped young woman with a dark past. As a
character, she has a deep connection to the broad theme of family within the novel,
and more specifically, how the lack of family when it is desperately needed leads
to emptiness. The first major noticeable thing about Eleanor is the desire to free
herself from the confines of her reality. This part of her character is what drives her
from the very beginning of the novel onward. During her journey to Hill House, she
imagines various different lives she might live in all the different houses she sees.
However, this freedom that Eleanor is so eager to achieve always come in an
illusionary form.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Everyone needs a home and a family to get by, but Eleanor seems unable to function
in any situation outside of a home. She is unable to go out and make her own
home, and like a child, she needs the home of another person to give her shelter and
to protect her from the terrors that really get under her skin, such as the real world.
And even when Eleanor thinks she has found a home with her newfound cousin
Theodora, that is also ripped away. Theodora as a woman is everything that Eleanor is
not: Bold, confident, and outgoing. As a character, she and Eleanor s views of
family differ drastically. She is the only character in the novel who doesn t have a
last name, which suggests how much of a free spirit she is. All the other main
characters have last names and are in some way controlled by their families:
Eleanor practically has to steal the car she and her sister share to get by her family
s restrictive rules, Luke is only at Hill House because his aunt forced him to go, and
Doctor Montague s wife walks all over him. On the other hand, Theodora is
completely free of family and all the obligations that come with it. She isn t tied
down to a family or a home and has a distaste for family life, the complete opposite
of everything Eleanor desires and needs in her life. When Eleanor asks Theodora if
she can move in with her, Theodora promptly turns her
Etobicoke School Massacre
On a Sunday night, a massive shooting occurred in a parking lot behind Etobicoke
school, where a man, Abdulkadir Bihi, was killed, and two others were injured.
This shooting marks Toronto s 49th homicide in the year of 2017. The school was
known as Kingsview Village Junior School, and it was the second area which was
under a shooting under the last four days. The school was along Islington Ave to
Dixie Road. Policehave started an investigation of who committed the crime.
However, during a press conference on Monday, the police claimed that they are
unaware whether the two shootings in the same area are linked. It s too early to
determine whether there was any connection at this point , acknowledged by Det.
Steve Matthews. He also made a claim regarding the two suspects of the murder were

There are numerous amounts of shootings occurring in Toronto, specifically, this is
the 49th homicide. A man has lost his life where he did not expect this to happen,
from someone else hands. Not only he suffered through the extreme pain of getting
shot, but also his family is suffering. They are probably in the condition of sorrow
and sadness. Two other individuals are in hospitals living their lives with a long
lasting pain, all due to someone s hand with a gun. This and many other situations in
Canada, America, and etc, will affect society as a whole with this article is by
pedestrians on the streets will now have more fear walking down the streets of
Toronto, since they know, something similar to this situation could occur to them.
Also knowing that there are people who might have a lethal weapon on them.
Another way this could affect society is by an amendment regarding gun control in
Canada. The rules should be further extended and the ability to gain a gun should be
limited. Furthermore, the charges of killing with a gun should also be extremely
strict and should increase as
Reflection Paper On Physician Assistant
It was an enlightening experience to be able to shadow a physician assistant now as a
physician assistant student compared to my previous experiences as a pre physician
assistant student. I could appreciate and understand more the expectations and
demands that comes with the profession. Similarly, how effective a physicianassistant
may be at meeting the core competencies in the physician assistant profession. While
shadowing Pediatric PA Nick Constantino, I found he meet all the competencies in
our profession, but the two that stood out to me the most were patient care and
medical knowledge.
During the time I spent shadowing PA Constantino, I was able to notice how well
rehearsed he was with medical literature. We saw about eight patients who presented
with varying complaints such as spontaneous nocturnal leg pain, foreign body in ear,
wellness checks, possible celiac disease, refill for medications, change of
medications, and cold like symptoms. I was particularly interested on how he handled
the case with the spontaneous nocturnal leg pain. According to the mother, the child
would wake up in the middle night with bilateral leg pain that was soothed with
warm baths and Motrin. The child had not sustained any injuries and after the second
episode of leg pain he was taken to the Emergency Room to be evaluated.
Labs were drawn and x rays were taken of his legs and the results were normal. PA
Constantino elicited more information from the child as he conducted his physical
Introduction. Significance Of Hunting. The Significance
Introduction
Significance of Hunting
The significance of hunting in national communities changes socially because people
perceive hunters differently.
Investigation Hunting animals in local areas is debated because of the perceptions of
hunters. This controversial subject is debated because animals are killed either in
farms or outdoors for food. How is hunting viewed differently between hunters and
anti hunters?
Comparison
The perception of hunters deviate between hunting and anti hunting. This essay
compares the differences between how hunters and anti hunters view the act of
hunting.

Awareness is needed for others to understand dogs important role in hunting for deer.
Diverse hunting groups would then have the opportunity to support their case.
Hence, hunters in areas with dog hunting history, support dog hunting. Sport hunting
is supported because of the history and importance. Anti hunters do not agree with
dog hunting. The community lacks clarity in why dogs are used in hunting, so
education is needed to gain clarity.
Additionally, in the blog, Bullen informs readers the arguments in favor of sport
hunting because others may not know why hunters hunt for sport. The author
explains hunting for sport tests their abilities and promotes conservation. The thought
process results in, People who support sport hunting also emphasize the fact that they
pay to participate in this pastime. Each year, hunters must purchase hunting
licenses...not only do hunters believe that their money goes to a good cause, but also
the act of hunting helps conservation. By participating in this pastime, hunters
support conservation through buying tags and reducing population numbers. As they
get to test their abilities, they promote conservation and a pastime. Sport hunters
uphold the pastime of hunting while controlling conservation.
Consequently, anti hunters do not fully understand hunters and why they disagree
with farming animals. Hunters sport
Feminist Interpretation In Charles Perrault s Bluebeard
There is perhaps nothing as terrifying as realizing that your dark suspicions about
someone ended up being correct. Actually, something more terrifying is having that
horrible realization and having no method of escape. Charles Perrault s Bluebeard is a
story of intuition and feminine curiosity, but the tale can also be read through a
feminist lens and taken as an examination of the oppressive attitude and potential
danger that men can pose to women. This can be seen through how the tale treats
women, how the story represents men, and through examining the actual events of
the story when compared to the supposed moral. Perrault s Bluebeardhas quite a bit to
say about gender relations, even though the views of the author may be distinctly
different from a more feminist interpretation. There are several female characters in
Bluebeard, though the one with the most potential for examination is the younger
sister who marries the titular character. His wifeis never given a name, and she, along
with her sister, is described only as perfect beauties (Perrault 144). She, at least at
first, and many other women are repulsed by Bluebeard. While he may be wealthy
and appears to be kind, he had the misfortune of having a blue beard, which made
him look so ugly and frightful that women and girls alike fled from the sight of him
(Perrault 144). The young bride is obviously someone who is focused on the
attractiveness of her partner, but she actually manages to overcome this and
The Second Chapter Of Utilitarianism, By John Stuart Mill
In the second chapter of Utilitarianism , John Stuart Mill argues against the
misconceptions held by detractors of utilitarianism through definition. Mill defines
utilitarianism through the concept of the Greatest Happiness Principle, in which the
outcome which will serve the happiness and utility of the most people, thus creating
the greatest overall happiness, remains the optimal choice; through this definition,
Mill rejects the misapprehension that utilitarianismopposes pleasure, showing the true
intent in utilitarian philosophy lying within pleasure itself, as the Greatest Happiness
Principle advocates a universal pleasure in lieu of pleasure for only one s self.
Morality within utilitarianism, according to Mill, sees the concept of
Antigone And Ismene Analysis
Antigone, a play by Sophocles, contain the events that occur after the death of
Oedipus. Oedipus death marked the ending of the preceding book, Oedipus at
Colonus. Antigone, as reflected in the title, focuses on the life of Antigone, one of
Oedipus daughters. Within the play, Antigone is faced with a major disagreement
with her sister regarding the proper burial of their brother, Polyneices. Antigone and
Ismene are characters that hold contrasting ideals and opinions in reference to the
law of the gods v. the law of the state, family, loyalty, and the role of women in
society; however, these characters come from the same background, so there are
certain things that shape their reputation in the same ways. There was a clear divide...

In the text, she speaks about how their family has been through a lot of
reputational damage already and claims that doing this would only further harm
their reputations. On page 193, Ismene says, Sister, please, please! Remember how
our father died hated, in disgrace... and now, we two are left. Lastly, the sisters have
very different views on the role of women in society and the boundaries placed on
women in society. In the time the play is set in, there is a clear patriarchy set in
place. Burials are to be done by men; therefore, Antigone s plan to give her brother
a proper burial herself is an outrageous act that has a serious legal consequence.
Though her plan went against the accepted social paradigm of the time, she stayed
true to her promise and went ahead with the burial. In the beginning of the play,
when Antigone asks Ismene to accompany her in paying homage to their brother,
Ismene uses their role in society as a reason not to do so. Remind ourselves that we
are women and as such are not made to fight with men. (Roche 193.) In many ways,
Antigone was assuming the role of a man in society, rather than a woman for women
had little independence in their community.
Antigone and Ismene are represented with totally different personalities. Antigone is
a headstrong, relentless, independent woman who would do anything for her family.
This is made evident in both her success in giving her brother a proper burial and in
her loyalty to her father in Oedipus at

  • 2. Compare And Contrast Jamestown And The Plymouth Plantation Comparing Jamestown and the Plymouth Plantation Massachusetts Plymouth Plantation and Virginia s Jamestown are two of the most written about and renowned colonies ever built in America. Most notably, each of these colonies had very famous leaders: Captain John Smith was the leader of Jamestown, and William Bradford from the Plymouth Plantation. Not only did each of the colonies corresponding communities have differences grounded in their own purpose for traveling across the waters, but both communities also displayed similarities in their motivations for making America their new home. First, the many people who headed towards Jamestown and Plymouth were people of status and wealth. These people were the small percentile that could afford to travel and pay the incredibly high fee for such a travel. Coming into America was a chance for them to explore new found territory and experience life without the rules of the monarchy that was held in England. As a first look at their leaders, Jamestown s Captain Smith was a dangerous man and very powerful one, and so much so that he authorized people to brutally murder his own soldiers and would threaten people s lives if they did not want to be a part of his ship s crew. Fascinatingly enough, Smith was a good leader to many Native tribes in different regions of the world; he helped by supplying these communities with food and weapons. Consequently, all of his good deeds would end up winning him the respect and admiration of these
  • 3. Summary Of John Knowles A Separate Peace A Separate Peace by John Knowles tells a story of the external and internal wars a person experiences in their lifetime. During the summer session of 1942 at Devon Academy, introverted student Gene Forrester follows in the footsteps of his carefree yet ambitious best friend, Phineas. Gene starts to envy Finny s charisma rather than admire. The growth of his selfish desires to transform into Finny contradicts Gene s morality, creating an internal conflict. Knowles conveys one s selfishness causes decisions to be based on self concern rather than the well being of others. For instance, Gene chooses to lie to Finny and the other boys during the mock trial to avoid confrontation. He believes conflict would allow Finny to change his perception ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Then at last Finny straightened from this prayerful position slowly; as though it was painful for him (Knowles 172). Here, Gene s decision to lie to Finny reveals his selfish and deceitful side overpowering his morality. He lies to preserve the untainted image that Finny held of him. He completely disregards the impact it would have on Finny when he inevitably found out the truth from someone other than him. When Gene did not return [Finny s] look it reveals his immediate guilt and shame because he recognizes that this would have a negative impact not only on Finny, but their friendship. In addition, Gene s selfish desires to fulfill his satisfaction forces him to feel the necessity to shake the tree branch. Gene admits, [Finny] had never been jealous of me for a second. Now I knew that there never was and never could have been any rivalry between us. I was not of the same quality as he. I couldn t stand this (Knowles 59). In the moments leading up to Finny s fall, Gene realizes the mutual rivalry and enmity between him and Finny does not exist. Finny has no real enemy, re establishing Gene s inferiority to him knowing his morals are not of the same quality as [Finny s]. His realization that he remains inferior angers Gene and causes him to reveal his spitefulness when he shook the tree
  • 4. Philosophy Of Transactional Leadership Instructional Supervision Philosophy Leadership Even though leadership dates back centuries, it is critical for leaders to display qualities that differentiate them from followers (p. 5). To encourage student success, it is important to practice theories and methodologies that help institution s and individuals become successful leaders with superior qualities. Transformational and transactional leadership are two terms that discussed throughout business and education. Transactional leadership is defined as trading one thing for another (quid pro quo) , whereas transformational leadership is more focused on change (p. 14). Transactional leaders believe it is their job to maintain the status quo by setting goals, desired outcomes, rewards ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 1). Research indicated the importance of active learning strategies, over the past few years, to help maximize the student s education. A well written lesson plan can cover the course content, maintain student attention, and incorporate the knowledge and skills the student needs to learn. A skilled educator can scrutinize the learning situation and differentiate instruction by using all the available resources. I think, to help facilitate learning, teachers should encourage students to be more responsible for their own education by engaging them to participate in individual or group activities, including collaboration with other students, hands on activities, reading, writing, and verbal presentations. As an educator, I will concentrate on strategies that promote collaboration, cooperation, and communication. I will concentrate on reading strategies that help students comprehend what they read. Reading strategies such as, the before, during, and after reading strategy can be used for reading comprehension. I can use this reading strategy the first time a new story is read. Before reading the story, I can preview the story by discussing the topic, using key vocabulary words, activating the student s prior knowledge, and setting the purpose for reading. During the reading passage, I will stop and use context clues to help students
  • 5. Essay on Car Safety Car Safety Automobile Safety It s a dark rainy night. You and your family are coming home from a late night family party. As a car is coming through an intersection another car cut in front of it. The driver decides to hit the brakes so you can avoid the car, but as he presses the brakes, the car loses control on the slick wet road. He is not able to gain control and at that point he has endangered the lives of himself and many others on the road. This is just one example of the many types of things that occur in our streets everyday. All that would have been needed to avoid this situation would have been a traction control system in his car, which would have detected that the car was skidding and would have applied the brakes to ... Most brain damage incidents occur when you are involved in a side impact collision and the side of your head hits the glass (brain injury). Side impact airbags are just one of the many ways in which this type of life threatening injury can be avoided (whiplash). There is also whiplash, which hurls your head violently, and usually results in long term disability. Since whiplash is so hard to avoid, it can only be avoided by reducing the number of accidents on the streets. Also one of the most painful and most traumatizing injuries that we encounter in accidents are bone fractures, which occur in 65% of all accidents (Bush 11). So in turn by making these cars safer we can all avoid these painful, traumatizing, life threatening injuries. Seat belts although they are the most effective safety device on cars must be made safer. Out of all people who died in car accidents, 63% of those were not wearing seat belts (seatbelts). This goes to show you the effectiveness of seat belt. Therefore automotive manufactures must mandate the installation of 5 point seatbelt on all cars. In all major race car organization such as NASCAR (National Association Stock Car Automotive Racing) they require these 5 point seat belt. Which is nothing more than a seatbelt that is buckled in 5 spots rather that the conventional 3.
  • 6. The Google Android Operating System The Google Android Operating System To fully understand the Google Android operating system, you must look back beyond the development of the very first version of the Android OS. In 1999, former manufacturing engineer at Apple, Andy Rubin, joined with two other men, Matt Hershenson and Joe Britt, to found Danger Inc. The company aimed to provide hardware and software for mobile devices. Their most notable device was the T Mobile Sidekick. The company spearheaded the idea of a client server model and is credited with the creation of the App Marketplace. Danger Inc. was sold in 2008 to Microsoft, but the idea of the AndroidOS was brewing several years before this. In 2003, Rubin made the decision to leave Danger Inc. to work on Android. For several years, Rubin funded his ideas out of pocket and did not produce any new products. His aim was similar to that of Danger s to revolutionize smartphone software and open source development of ideas previously started by Danger. Android came from Linux, but has since become an independent operating system. 2005 came around and Android had still not put out its first product. Rubin s focus was on web connected experiences and to create an environment where developers could apply their skills. This new idea attracted investors, namely Google. Google was interested in staying competitive with the big companies in the smartphone market at the time Blackberry and Microsoft. The idea that sparked Google s interest was the open source
  • 7. Aristotle’s Poetics Influence on the Ancient World Aristotle presents the argument that tragedies are superior to epics. While tragedies and epics are characterized in similar ways they also have their differences. A tragedy, then, is the imitation of an action that is serious and also, as having magnitude, complete in itself; in language with pleasurable accessories, each kind brought in separately in the parts of the work; in a dramatic, not in a narrative form; with incidents arousing pity and fear, wherewith to accomplish its catharsis of such emotions. (Aristotle, 6) A Tragedyis better at arousing emotion in an audience than en epic through the plot, characters, thought, diction, melody, and spectacle. The first point the plot is the arrangement of the incidents. The plot... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thought literally deals with what is being said throughout the tragedy. It is assumed this category also includes the themes of a tragedy. Themes can be viewed as the overall lesson from the story. When the theme is thought about, emotions surface and are related to everyday life. Thought is shown whenever a point is proven or a truth is revealed. The power of saying whatever needs to be said at that point in time. The arts of politics and rhetoric fall under this category in tragedies as speeches. At times thought can be confused with character, but character exposes the moral purpose. Thought validates or invalidates a particular circumstance. The fourth point diction is the choice along with the use of words and phrases. In cases of tragedy this could be speaking or singing. It is the composition of lines recited that deal with how the lines are said. Verses that are fully understood and do not need explaining. Diction is easier to overcome when used in a tragedy even if it does not present a tragic effect. The fifth point melody is the utmost pleasurable piece of a tragedy. By definition a melody is a sequence of single notes that is musically satisfying. During a tragedy the melody is used as a musical accompaniment to blend with the play appropriately. Therefore according to Aristotle the chorus should be regarded as one of the actors (14). While the melody is a main component of tragedies, it is not even used within epics, therefore making
  • 8. What I Don t Have A Single Identity Daughter, student, journalist, sister, Catholic, middle class that s just scratching the surface of what my identity is. As author Barbara Ryan points out, I know I don t have a single identity and I know it is not fixed, but I wasn t quite sure of what identity politics was. Thankfully, Ryan did a great job of explaining how our identities, as well as how we perceive other s identities, or how we allow for people s identities to affect the way we act think of and act toward them, can affect social movements. People s identities can also lead to the fragmentation of people of a social movement who might have a common goal. Reading this introduction and now better understanding how identities can aid in the buffering of people... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I knew that the ideas I came up with would be difficult to achieve on my own, but I knew that with others, they were plausible. Because I ve has classes with my group members for four years now, I was comfortable enough with getting started with my idea sharing right away, but what if I hadn t known these other women as well? Would I have looked at their identities (skin color, socioeconomic status based on how they dressed, etc.), assumed certain things based on those identities, and then let those assumptions get in the group s way of cohesively working toward a common, shared goal? Maybe, and that s scary. Identity is of course important, for it helps us better understand ourselves and each other, but once we let identity create barriers between us and section us off into homogenous groups, such a strong focus on identity can, as Ryan suggests, prevent us from uniting with those working on a similar issue. Women are already marginalized, so let s not marginalize each other even further. That s my goal this semester. Journal Entry # 2: Who Am I If Not My Father s Daughter? Minnie Pratt s usage of a personal anecdote in her piece is a beautiful way to let readers better understand her, her story, her background, and her identity. By showing us a time that made her question her identity, we all feel relief in knowing that we are not the only ones who have

Lack Of Ethic With A More Positive Stance Lack Of Ethic Understanding in IRB = Lack Of Care In Research Why A Public Anthropology? addresses the issue about why cultural anthropology is not affective by its current stance of not doing any ethical harm and into more detail explains why IRB s should make notions to move towards a more positive stance of doing good. Throughout the explanation of ethical violations from five given cases, the details will prove why these violations emphasize that the review board s current stance of do no harm is an ethically ambiguous position . Even with anthropologists going in with the intentions of not doing harm result in the exact opposite; including national governments who try to avoid ethical issues end up just over regulating research studies. These actions limit researcher ability to do well and cause additional problems. IRB s focus on positive results is based on monetary value and time however this does not show respect and sensitivity. In the reading of this research I conclude it is due to the lack of similarity to the participants of the study leads to lack of care and treatment, thus threatening their wellbeing leads to the ethical issues in research cases and regulation. To solve this problem, Institutional Review Boards and Review Ethics Boards should create a set of common rules, these rules could easily differentiate what between what is what is and what is not ethical behavior and additionally it would facilitate all types of data in research projects that
  • 10. Themes In Monty Python And The Holy Grail Isabelle Bailey Winters Ms. Borkowski English IV 19 September 2016 Title Monty Python and the Holy Grail satirizes courtly love and chivalry as portrayed in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight and the film First Knight in many diverse ways. Satire is the use of irony, sarcasm, ridicule; it can be shown in an amusing tone or in a way that provokes a darker kind of laughter. The literary technique known as satire was used in the film Monty Python and the Holy Grail when making fun of easily identified common medieval themes such as chivalry and courtly love.Monty Python and the Holy Grail is intended to be more of a sarcastic piece, which is why it pokes fun at the more earnest works that feature King Arthur. In Sir Gawain and the Green Knight and First Knight, Sir Gawain and Lancelot both display what can be consid ered faultless examples of courtly love and chivalry. Monty Python and ... In Monty Python and the Holy Grail, the Black Death/Bubonic Plague was taunted which can relate to how death is an aspect in all noble journeys. These jourmeys do not neces sarily cause death, but death is very well associated with long quests and is something almost every knight will see or experience. This ties into having courage and being tough. In the movie, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, King Arthur is going about crossing a bridge on his excursion, but a black knight refuses to let him pass. King Arthur then pro ceeds to battle him, so he can continue his quest. When the battle is over, the black knight is missing both arms and legs, but continues to badmouth Arthur in hopes that the battle will continue. This is tremendously satirical because the knight was still living, speaking, and fighting after having his limbs severed. Realistically, that may not be possible. In Sir Gawain and the Green Knight,

He went off with dignity, with great dreams of coming home covered in medals and scars. He used to carry a little diary, with a crimson cover and a cracked spine, and on the inside of the cover was a handwritten quote, of which it read Whoever said the pen is mightier than the sword obviously never encountered automatic weapons. Since 2004, there have been less than 50 recorded civilian deaths in the US that have been conducted by Islamic extremist groups, not just groups from Pakistan. These attacks do serve a purpose, however the cost of human life is too great. Those affected by drone attacks do not have the power to stop this. • 15. The Similarities Between Sierra Leone And Mendes Culture Sierra Leone is an African country where historically, multiple cultures have survived. Since the feudal and monarchal systems arrived in the region dating back to the 15th century, the Temne and Mendes cultures flourished (Coleman, 2014). The Mendes culture was entangled with many beliefs and discoveries. The culture was complex and known for medicines, ancestral worship, a belief in God, masked spirit manifestations and secret societies (Coleman, 2014). The Temne culture is known for the agriculture of rice and a system of laws (Coleman, 2014). In the 1787, the British established itself in West Africa. Being the reason you make someone s day, or even the reason why she smiles for a split second, is an indescribable feeling to me. This was why it was so necessary for me to want to be there for Nana, even if it was such a small contribution. Most of us are familiar with The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), as the federal law that ensures protection and security of patients personal and health information. Its initial purpose was to protect transmittal of electronic health information as technology began replacing paper (records, communications, and such.) While our personal information is being protected, and it prevents insurance companies from using this information against us when they are determining rates, how does this affect health research? The pathophysiology of alcoholism begins after alcohol the ingestion of alcohol. It is absorbed and unaltered through the stomach and intestines. Next it is distributed throughout the body through the blood and absorbed by all tissues and fluids (Huether, 2012, p. 72). Furthermore, in the liver the alcohol blood content is metabolized into acetaldehyde by the enzymes process of alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH), the microsomal ethanol oxidizing system (MEOS), and catalase (Huether McCance, 2012). Next, the metabolizing effects the central nervous system (CNS) and exhibits a depressant action. It is first expressed in the subcortical structures of the brain. The Advantages Of Database Management Systems Assignment 1 Matthew Fisher May 15, 2016 Part 1: Database Concepts Topic 1: The Advantages of Database Management Systems A database system would offer the innkeepers several advantages over the flat file system, including enforced data integrity, minimized effort to adapt data into usable information, and abstraction. Storing data in a flat file system, as the innkeepers do, and accessing the data directly pose problems of data integrity. Anomalous data could easily arise if the innkeepers update a record in one file, but do not take care to update related records in other files. Where data are kept in multiple, separate files, but have a conceptual relationship to each other, a file system is of limited use compared to a database management system (DBMS). A DBMS ensures that relationships between entities are enforced. By way of example, a GUEST entity might have a GUEST_ID attribute that appears in multiple locations (e.g. a RESERVATIONS entity). In the file system model, the innkeepers may choose to store addresses of guests in both GUEST and RESERVATION files in order to quickly access address information while booking reservations. If the address is updated in one place, but not the other, this results in a data anomaly, where the address attributes for a guest do not agree. A well designed database using a DBMS could circumvent this issue by storing no guest information in the RESERVATION table other than GUEST_ID. With this relationship, guests addresses can still

A debate has recently arisen; are hybrid automobiles that much more fuel efficient than the average car, and is the higher sticker price worth the investment? Questions have also been asked about the hope of reducing environmental pollution. Are government rebates and dealer incentives worth the additional investment of purchasing these higher priced cars? What is the adoption rate among consumers to these automobiles? Gas mileage can be defined as: how many miles a car or truck can travel on one gallon of gasoline (Marland English, 2015). As fossil fuels continue to be depleted, our civilization must look at cost efficient ways to accomplish daily tasks. Hybrid cars use a combination of the gasoline engine with electronic motors to achieve a number of objectives. This differs from the new totally electricity powered cars that run on charged batteries. Over time this can lead to huge savings in fuel costs to the average consumer. As oil prices continue to rise and fall, a more fuel efficient car could provide some comfort to the financially stressed customer. A person must take into consideration if the savings in fuel costs are worth the higher investment price of a hybrid. On average,

One huge factor that the entertainment industry affects is how gender is constructed and how hegemonic masculinity is part of our gender narrative in the US. In mainstream media, ranging from music to television, we usually see or hear women taking roles as someone is weaker or doesn t have the same power as men. In the music industry, women are shown as objects or property. In todays culture the music genre that has taken over our generation is rap and hip hop. Some of the most popular male rappers are Snoop Dog, Ice Cube, The Game and many others. These rappers have one thing in common in their music when it comes to talking about females, which is degrading women. Their lyrics usually consists of calling women bitches or hoes or any other word that demeans women. The whole story is told through the perspective of a troubled woman and the author did this to show that if guilt and pain eat at a person this is what can happen and in this case it is a miscarriage of a child belonging to the woman . The author uses symbolism to emphasize her claims on guilt. The whole story is portrayed in first person with no names mentioned in the story because it makes it more relatable to general and heartbroken people in society. The author displays a woman who had a miscarriage and is torn deeply about her own loss and became completely depressed; she is also becomes delusional and believes her baby is still alive and is her little secret, and lastly on some deep inner level she knows that her baby is dead and feels a tremendous amount of guilt for losing her own child. The author shows that the miscarriage can be a metaphor for any situation in life: if something is lost, one cannot just give up, and become completely obsessed over memories of the past, memories were made to shape who one is not dictate the present actions. • 41. Haunting Of Hill House Analysis The protagonist of Shirley Jackson s The Haunting of Hill House is Eleanor Vance, an emotionally underdeveloped young woman with a dark past. As a character, she has a deep connection to the broad theme of family within the novel, and more specifically, how the lack of family when it is desperately needed leads to emptiness. The first major noticeable thing about Eleanor is the desire to free herself from the confines of her reality. This part of her character is what drives her from the very beginning of the novel onward. During her journey to Hill House, she imagines various different lives she might live in all the different houses she sees. However, this freedom that Eleanor is so eager to achieve always come in an illusionary form.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Everyone needs a home and a family to get by, but Eleanor seems unable to function in any situation outside of a home. She is unable to go out and make her own home, and like a child, she needs the home of another person to give her shelter and to protect her from the terrors that really get under her skin, such as the real world. And even when Eleanor thinks she has found a home with her newfound cousin Theodora, that is also ripped away. Theodora as a woman is everything that Eleanor is not: Bold, confident, and outgoing. As a character, she and Eleanor s views of family differ drastically. She is the only character in the novel who doesn t have a last name, which suggests how much of a free spirit she is. All the other main characters have last names and are in some way controlled by their families: Eleanor practically has to steal the car she and her sister share to get by her family s restrictive rules, Luke is only at Hill House because his aunt forced him to go, and Doctor Montague s wife walks all over him. On the other hand, Theodora is completely free of family and all the obligations that come with it. She isn t tied down to a family or a home and has a distaste for family life, the complete opposite of everything Eleanor desires and needs in her life. When Eleanor asks Theodora if she can move in with her, Theodora promptly turns her

Reflection Paper On Physician Assistant It was an enlightening experience to be able to shadow a physician assistant now as a physician assistant student compared to my previous experiences as a pre physician assistant student. I could appreciate and understand more the expectations and demands that comes with the profession. Similarly, how effective a physicianassistant may be at meeting the core competencies in the physician assistant profession. While shadowing Pediatric PA Nick Constantino, I found he meet all the competencies in our profession, but the two that stood out to me the most were patient care and medical knowledge. During the time I spent shadowing PA Constantino, I was able to notice how well rehearsed he was with medical literature. We saw about eight patients who presented with varying complaints such as spontaneous nocturnal leg pain, foreign body in ear, wellness checks, possible celiac disease, refill for medications, change of medications, and cold like symptoms. I was particularly interested on how he handled the case with the spontaneous nocturnal leg pain. • 45. Feminist Interpretation In Charles Perrault s Bluebeard There is perhaps nothing as terrifying as realizing that your dark suspicions about someone ended up being correct. Actually, something more terrifying is having that horrible realization and having no method of escape. Charles Perrault s Bluebeard is a story of intuition and feminine curiosity, but the tale can also be read through a feminist lens and taken as an examination of the oppressive attitude and potential danger that men can pose to women. This can be seen through how the tale treats women, how the story represents men, and through examining the actual events of the story when compared to the supposed moral. Perrault s Bluebeardhas quite a bit to say about gender relations, even though the views of the author may be distinctly different from a more feminist interpretation. There are several female characters in Bluebeard, though the one with the most potential for examination is the younger sister who marries the titular character. His wifeis never given a name, and she, along with her sister, is described only as perfect beauties (Perrault 144). She, at least at first, and many other women are repulsed by Bluebeard. While he may be wealthy and appears to be kind, he had the misfortune of having a blue beard, which made him look so ugly and frightful that women and girls alike fled from the sight of him (Perrault 144). The young bride is obviously someone who is focused on the attractiveness of her partner, but she actually manages to overcome this and

The Second Chapter Of Utilitarianism, By John Stuart Mill In the second chapter of Utilitarianism , John Stuart Mill argues against the misconceptions held by detractors of utilitarianism through definition. Mill defines utilitarianism through the concept of the Greatest Happiness Principle, in which the outcome which will serve the happiness and utility of the most people, thus creating the greatest overall happiness, remains the optimal choice; through this definition, Mill rejects the misapprehension that utilitarianismopposes pleasure, showing the true intent in utilitarian philosophy lying within pleasure itself, as the Greatest Happiness Principle advocates a universal pleasure in lieu of pleasure for only one s self. Morality within utilitarianism, according to Mill, sees the concept of
  • 47. Antigone And Ismene Analysis Antigone, a play by Sophocles, contain the events that occur after the death of Oedipus. Oedipus death marked the ending of the preceding book, Oedipus at Colonus. Antigone, as reflected in the title, focuses on the life of Antigone, one of Oedipus daughters. Within the play, Antigone is faced with a major disagreement with her sister regarding the proper burial of their brother, Polyneices. Antigone and Ismene are characters that hold contrasting ideals and opinions in reference to the law of the gods v. the law of the state, family, loyalty, and the role of women in society; however, these characters come from the same background, so there are certain things that shape their reputation in the same ways. On page 193, Ismene says, Sister, please, please! Remember how our father died hated, in disgrace... and now, we two are left. Lastly, the sisters have very different views on the role of women in society and the boundaries placed on women in society. In the time the play is set in, there is a clear patriarchy set in place. Burials are to be done by men; therefore, Antigone s plan to give her brother a proper burial herself is an outrageous act that has a serious legal consequence. Though her plan went against the accepted social paradigm of the time, she stayed true to her promise and went ahead with the burial. In the beginning of the play, when Antigone asks Ismene to accompany her in paying homage to their brother, Ismene uses their role in society as a reason not to do so. Remind ourselves that we are women and as such are not made to fight with men. (Roche 193.) In many ways, Antigone was assuming the role of a man in society, rather than a woman for women had little independence in their community. Antigone and Ismene are represented with totally different personalities. Antigone is a headstrong, relentless, independent woman who would do anything for her family. This is made evident in both her success in giving her brother a proper burial and in her loyalty to her father in Oedipus at
