BRITISH INDIA INFLUENCE TO FMS(FADERATED MALAY STATES) RAILWAY STATIONS (30TH JUNE 2015)
Geological environment and historical background of Malaya displayed an important role in the development of train system in Malaysia. The early local settlements of Malaya have mostly settled in the lowland and coastal area, with water transportation as a means of transportation for communication and trades. Malay kingdoms were cited and the capital was at a point near river mouths. However, later in the 19th century, rivalry takes part between the European powers for control of the tin deposits in Malaya. Tin became a significant raw material contributing to the industrial revolution. Large tin deposits were discovered in Sungei Ujong,Negeri Sembilan, in the valleys of Klang River and at Larut, Perak. In 1874, British came in to control the unrest in the tin-producing areas and later, residential system was established in Perak, Selangor and Sungei Ujong.
There was demand to connect the mines to the ports where first section of the Malayan Railway was opened between Taiping,Perak and Port Weld,Klang. During this era, the railway stations was made of wood and nipah palm. However, later, more townships in the state of Perak, Negeri Sembilan and Selangor developed along the roads. The town includes Taiping, Ipoh, Seremban and Kuala Lumpur. This resulted development in architectural design as well to the railway stations. In 1910, becoming the main railway station for the state of Selangor, Kuala Lumpur railway station has been relocated and was built as the first concrete station in town. Ipoh in the other hand serves as the main railway terminal for the state of Perak and was the second concrete station in 1920. Both buildings was designed by Arthur Benison Hubback whom was a British architectural assistant to the Director of Public Works of that time.
Therefour, this study will further evaluate the relationship of the Ipoh railway station in comparison to the Kuala Lumpur railway station architectural style from the influence of global industrial revolution era, as well as local political and historical influence.
Samy Mahfar shares some historically invaluable sites for visitors and longtime residents to explore. New York City is a cultural treasure and is home to a rich variety of historical sites.

The influence of Islamic architecture on the colonial buildings in MalaysiaMat Zain Abdullah
Islamic style of architecture significantly present on many colonial buildings in Malaysia drew inspirations from Mughal architectural style of India made popular by British architects in India during the British Raj. This style of architecture during the British Raj in India was called Indo-Saracenic and its vast influence was exported to as far as then Malaya introduced by the British that ruled Malaya.

Phonm penh changing urban fabric with demography – past and futureeSAT Journals
Abstract The fabric of a city flows and weaves itself from the people. Essentially, people make the city and so, their culture, traditions and practices create the spaces in a city/town. The rich relation between man and his cities can be seen in a number of modern day examples, such as Paris, Barcelona, Bangkok and many more. These cities show the myriad beauty in the mix of architecture in the urban fabric and how the natural development, with proper design can give rise to complex, yet organized developments. Phonm Penh, as a riverfront city and the capital city of Cambodia, offers fascinating architecture, vistas of mixed architectural styles and great scope for future architectural development. This paper is an attempt to understand and study the changing urban fabric of a city that has been the glorious historical epicenter of the Khmer kingdom, an ally, victim and refuge during the Vietnam War, a colony of the French and a genocide killing field. This paper is an effort to study factors affecting its urban fabric in the past and present and future scenarios and how this can be used in other mixed socio-cultural settings with a rich and diverse history. Key Words: Urban fabric, architecture, History, development, socio-economy, future

3. Introduction
In this assignment, we are require to do a literature research on places of interest of
your site visit. From the literature review, we are to study the theme given and its
connection between the historical, architectural and social aspects of the place. We
have to document the research that we have done in an A5 small booklet base on our
theme and show it by graphical way.
Concept & Theme
Theme- Architecture of British Colonial building
Concept – pattern and texture of British Colonial building
Pattern and texture is an artistic or decorative design. Each type of building has their
own awesome pattern and texture design no matter it is old stylish house, modern
house and so on. But normally this type of pattern doesn’t notice much by people
nowadays because people nowadays probably only spend much of their time on
online social networking service such as Facebook, Twitter and others. So this book is
basically showing people about British Colonial building’s special patterns and
textures.
4. Location
Place Choosen – Kuala Lumpur
Kuala Lumpur is the capital city in Malaysia, somehow it has also many unforgettable
history. The reason why I choose Kuala Lumpur is because it is one of the famous
place that has occupied by British in the olden century. Because of this Kuala Lumpur
has plenty of British heritage buildings which have wonderful texture and beautiful
pattern but they are unnoticed by people nowadays.
5. Mapping
Kuala Lumpur Railway Station
This is the map for Kuala Lumpur Railway Station. It place at Jalan Sultan
Hishamuddin however the building Keretaapi Tanah Melayu (KTM) Berhad is place
opposite this building which is
Keretaapi Tanah Melayu (KTM) Berhad
Sultan Abdul Samad Building
6. This is the map for Sultan Abdul Samad Building. It place at JalanTunperak which
opposite Merdeka Square.
7. The Building that I have choose –
1) Sultan Abdul Samad Building
The Sultan Abdul Samad Building is located in front of
the DataranMerdeka (Independence Square) and the Royal Selangor Club,
by Jalan Raja in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The structure takes its name
from Sultan Abdul Samad, the reigning sultan of Selangor at the time when
construction began. It was designed by A.C. Norman and built in 1894-1897
to house several important government departments during the British
administration. A.C. Norman spent time in Africa and saw Muslim mosques in
India which led him to useMughal architecture in the building's design. The
41-meter tower chimed for the first time to coincide with Queen Victoria’s
Jubilee Parade in 1897 and has chimed since. The building, simply known
as Government Offices in early Kuala Lumpur maps, housed the Federal
Secretariat of the then-Federated Malay States which was formed in 1896.
8. 2) Kuala Lumpur Railway Station Berhad
Formerly known as the Malayan Railway Administration, it later became
known as KTMB, or Keretapi Tanah MelayuBerhad. The railway system dates
back to the British colonial era, when it was first built to transport tin. Fares
were generally reasonable, but the low speed of the intercity trains did not
make them competitive with other modes of transportation. The building was
also designed by A.B Hubback, the same architect who designed the Old
Kuala Lumpur Railway Station. It was completed in 1917, after works were
halted during World War One. It also incorporates the Mughal style of
architecture, just as the building on the opposite side of the road. The building
suffered bombing in its North Wing during the Second World War, and in
1968, the second floor was gutted by fire. In 1983, the building was gazetted
as a heritage site.
3) Old Kuala Lumpur Railway Station
9. Kuala Lumpur Railway Station is a railway station located in Kuala
Lumpur, Malaysia. It designed by Arthur Benison Hubback, a British
Architectural Assistant to the Director of Public Works based on The "NeoMoorish/Mughal/Indo-Saracenic/Neo-Saracenic" style. This style was not
uncommon at the time, such as Sultan Abdul Samad also build based on this
design. This building completed in 1910to replace an older station on the same
site, the station was Kuala Lumpur's railway hub in the city for the Federated
Malay States Railways and Malayan Railway , before Kuala Lumpur
Sentral assumed much of its role in 2001. The station is notable for its
architecture, adopting a mixture of Eastern and Western designs.
10. The theme and my places
“Pattern and texture of British Colonial Building”
Why I do on pattern and texture? It is because the wonderful pattern and texture in
these British Colonial Building has left out by people nowadays. These pattern and
texture basically has their own meaning and clearly show the style of the connection
of British Colonial and Muslim stylish. For example the different arches that I have
seen through the journey when I doing this assignment has represent the pattern of
British style. We can also get to know the lifestyle and behavior of them through these
building by looking of their design. Besides, I try to concentrate on British Colonial
building because British colonial buildings have their own different special style
compare to building nowadays. In the other hand, many people who didn’t have went
to England also can know the pattern of British stylish through this book. Basically I
make this simple theme is because I hope the reader can easily understand what is
bring out and showing in this book. So that reader won’t confuse when they are
looking this graphical book and refuse to read at last.
12. The building also features a 40m high clock tower which is flanked by two lower
towers both of which, like the clock tower, are topped with onion-shaped copper
domes
Picture 2
It chimed for the first time in 1897 to coincide with Queen Victoria’s Diamond
Jubilee parade.

13. Sultan Abdul Samad designed by many forms of arches and the most significant ones
are key hole arches, ogee arches, pointed arches and horse-shoe arches.
