Natural Disasters Last Decade with Data
Causes, Impacts, & Solutions
 Introduction
 Weather & climate
 List of green house gases
 Sources of green house gases
 Diagrams & green house effects
 Global warming is a burning issue
 Impacts of climate change over the world
 Natural disasters over the world ( within the
last decade)
 Details of conference of parties 28 or COP 28
(UNFCCC)
WHAT DOES IT MEAN?
Climate change refers to changes in the Earth’s climates, at local,
regional, or global scales, and is most commonly used to describe
anthropogenic caused.
These changes may be natural but human activities have been
the main driver of climate change, primarily due to the burning
of fossil fuels (like coal, oil, and gas) increasing heat-trapping
greenhouse gas levels in the Earth’s atmosphere.
 Weather: refers to short term of atmospheric
condition, variations in temperature, pressure,
precipitation(Weather like hot, cold, rainy,
sunny, cloudy weather etc.
 Climate: refers to averaging weather pattern
over a long period of time of 30 years.
( like tropical climate, temperate climate, polar
climate)
1) Carbon dioxide (CO2)
2) Methane (CH4)
3) Nitrous oxide (N2O)
4) Water vapors
5) Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs)
6) Perfluorocarbons (PFCs)
7) Sulphur hexafluoride (SF6)
8) Nitrogen trifluoride (NF3)
1) Electricity generation
2) Industrialization
3) Transportation
4) Commercial and residential
5) Land use and forestry
6) Agriculture
7) Deforestation
8) Poaching
9) And others
1) Reflectivity or Absorption of the Sun's Energy
2) Changes in the Earth's Orbit and Rotation
3) Variations in Solar Activity
4) Changes in the Earth's Reflectivity
5) Volcanic Activity
6) Others etc.
 Global warming of 1°C or 1.5°C
represents an average across the
planet – many places will warm faster,
and see far greater temperature
increases.
For example, the Arctic is warming 2-3
times faster than any other place on
Earth. The effects of global heating are
far-reaching, including rising sea levels,
glacier retreat, changes in the timing of
 Because the Earth is a system, where everything is
connected, changes in one area often influence changes
in all others.
 The consequences of climate change now include:
 Natural disasters
1) intense droughts
2) water scarcity
3) severe fires
4) rising sea levels
5) flooding
6) melting polar ice
7) catastrophic storms
8) declining biodiversity
1) Air pollution,
2) Water pollution,
3) Diseases,
4) Extreme weather events,
5) Forced displacement,
6) Pressures on mental health,
7) Increased hunger and poor nutrition in places where
people cannot grow sufficient food.
1) Typhoon Haiyan in Philippines , 6300 Killing people,
damaged 1.1 M houses, destroyed 33M trees ,and
causing 13 billion USD, India and china (2013)
2) Typhoon Hagupit (Ruby in Philippines ), 18 killed
people and causing 114 Million USD in the country
(2014)
3) Massive earthquake in Nepal up to 7.8 Richter scale,
8964 killing people, estimated US $ 7.1 Billion (2015)
4) The severity of the EI-NINO effect, 60 Million people
affected worldwide with droughts and heavy rain
(2016)
5) Average global temperature across land and ocean
was recorded increased by 0.84 degree Celsius
(2017)
1) Emergence of corona virus, Total death of people
in worldwide 6,963,000 (2019-2024)
2) 1.USA 1,190,200 death and Pakistan 30,664
death
3) The deadliest tropical cyclone known as Typhoon
Rai which caused 410 fatalities in Philippines,
Estimated cost 75.25 billion USD(2021)
4) Pakistan floods, killed people 1,839, and caused
Rs: 3.2 trillion, $ 14.8 billion (2022)
5) TURKEY-SYRIA earthquakes up to 7.8 Richter
scale, 42,310 lost their lives and 108,368 people
 Nov 30, 2023 to 13 Dec, 2023, the 28th meeting of the
Conference of the Parties mostly known as (COP28) or the United
Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC)
will be held at Expo City, Dubai in the United Arab Emirates
(UAE).
 The UAE has outlined four themes for COP28: technology and
innovation, inclusion, frontline communities, and finance.
 The Incoming Presidency of COP28 has outlined four key areas of
focus on during the conference: Fast-tracking the energy transition
and reducing emissions before 2030.
 Ramsar Convention. It is called the
Convention onWetlands
 Stockholm Convention. It is a convention on
Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs)
 Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD)
 Bonn Convention
 ViennaConvention
 Montreal Protocol
 Kyoto Protocol
 The current solutions being
offered to handle climate change
tend to be scientific, economic
and political.
 Develop new technologies,
employ new business and
 Switching to sustainable transport
 Improving farming and encourage vegan diets
 Restoring nature ( Forestation) to absorb more carbon
 Protecting forests like the Amazon
 Protecting the oceans
