This document discusses the life cycle of abalone from egg to adult. It begins as an egg that is fertilized by sperm to become a trochophore larva within 24 hours. The trochophore then develops into a veliger larva within 48 hours. The veliger settles and becomes a post-larval spat within 14-21 days. The spat then grows into a juvenile within 1-3 months and finally an adult within 2-4 years, growing about 1 inch per year for the first few years. Abalone spawn between June and November in the ocean. Veligers and trochophores eat plankton while in their planktonic stage.
