CLASSROOM ASSESSMENT - IS AN
INTEGRAL PART OF CURRICULUM
IMPLEMENTATION. IT ALLOWS THE
TEACHERS TO TRACK AND MEASURE
LEARNERS’ PROGRESS AND TO ADJUST
INSTRUCTION ACCORDINGLY.
CLASSROOM ASSESSMENT INFORMS
THE LEARNERS AS WELL AS THEIR
PARENTS AND GUARDIANS OF THEIR
PROGRESS.
CLASSROOM ASSESSMENT
• Is an on going process of identifying, gathering,
organizing, and interpreting quantitative and
qualitative information about what learners
know and can do.
• It also measures the achievement of
competencies by the learners
2 TYPES OF CLASSROOM ASSESSMENT
• FORMATIVE
ASSESSMENT
• SUMMATIVE
ASSESSMENT
FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT
• Assessment for learning
• Assessment as learning
SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENT
• Assessment of learning
• The result of summative assessments are
recorded and used to report on the
learners achievement.
• It is used as bases for computing grades.
3 COMPONENTS OF SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENT
1. WRITTEN WORK
2. PERFORMANCE TASK
3. QUARTERLY ASSESSMENT

TASKS
1. Involve students in the learning process
individually or in collaboration with
teammates over a period of time.
2. Give students opportunities to
demonstrate and integrate their
knowledge, understanding, and skills
about topics or lessons learned in a
specific real-life situation by performing
and / or producing evidence of their
learning.
3. Give students the freedom to express
their learning in appropriate and
diverse ways
4. Encourage student inquiry, integration
of knowledge, understanding, and skills
in various contexts beyond the
assessment period.

WHAT IS THE
GRADING SYSTEM
IN HEALTH 4 ?
The Health Education Grade 4 uses a standards –
and competency-based grading system.
All grades will be based on the weighted raw score of
the learners’ summative assessments. The minimum
grade needed to pass a specific learning area is 60,
which transmuted to 75 in the report card. The
lowest mark that can appear on the report card is 60
for Quarterly Grades and Final Grades.
Learners are graded on Written Work,
Performance Tasks, and Quarterly
Assessment every quarter.

The Grades of pupil’s work are added up.
This results in the total score for each component.

STEP 2
The sum for each component is converted to
Percentage score
Percentage score (PS) =
Learners Total Score
Highest Possible score

area. The quarterly grade for MAPEH is the
average of the quarterly grades in the four areas.

WHEN A TEACHER TEACHES,
NO MATTER HOW WELL HE OR SHE MIGHT DESIGN A LESSON,
WHAT A CHILD LEARNS IS UNPREDICTABLE.
CHILDREN DO NOT ALWAYS LEARN WHAT WE TEACH.
THAT IS WHY THE MOST IMPORTANT ASSESSMENT DOES
HAPPEN AT THE END OF LEARNING .
ASSESSMENT HAPPENS DURING THE LEARNING WHEN THERE
IS STILL TO DO SOMETHING WITH THE INFORMATION.

Editor's Notes

  • #3 IN LINE WITH THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE ENHANCED BASIC EDUCATION ACT OF 2013 UNDER REPUBLIC ACT NO 10553, THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION IS ADOPTING THE ENCLOSED POLICY GUIDELINES ON CLASSROOM ASSESSMENT FOR THE K TO 12 BASIC EDUCATION PROGRM,.
  • #7 2 principles of assessment were under the Formative Assessment….. 1. Assessment for learning …………….. The teacher and learner use this primarily to improve learning and teaching. 2. Assessment as learning………………..wherein students reflect on their own progress - develops in the learner personal responsibility for learning. - begins as the learner becomes aware of the goals of instruction and the criteria for performance. 3. Formative …is given at the beginning of teaching (diagnostic) or in the process of teaching (formative) to guide instruction and decision making
  • #8 Assessment of learning …….. It is usually occurs toward the end of a period of learning in order to describe the standard reached by the learner. It measures whether learners have met the content and performance standards.
  • #9 These 3 components ..will be used in computing the grades of the learners in Health 4.
  • #15 These three are given specific percentage weights that vary according to the nature of the learning area.
