This document outlines 5 classifications of workplace hazards: 1) chemical hazards which are substances that can harm people such as dust and gases, 2) physical hazards which do not require contact such as noise and vibrations, 3) biological hazards also known as biohazards which are biological substances that threaten living organisms like bacteria and viruses, 4) psycho-social hazards which affect mental well-being or health by overwhelming coping mechanisms like stress and substance abuse, and 5) ergonomic hazards which harm the musculoskeletal system through physical factors like repetitive movement and manual handling.
