CLASS AVES (BIRDS)

CHARACTERISTICS OF AVES
HABITAT:
Live on land Some are aquatic
FEATHERS:
 body is covered externally with feathers.
WINGS:
 their fore limbs are modified to form wings.
HOLLOW BONES:
 their bones are hollow and light so that they can
easily fly .
TOOTHLESS MOUTH:
 their mouth is toothless and their jaws prolonged
into beak.
SOUND BOX :
 There is a sound box present at the base of their
neck produces melodious voice called syrinx.
 Like:
EGGS:
 They laid their legs on land into their nest which are
covered by hard shell.
RESPIRATION:
 They respire by lungs.
WARM BLOODED:
 They are called warm blooded because they
maintain their body temperature.
KINDS:
 classified into two kinds.
1. flying birds.
2. Running birds (flightless birds).
EXAMPLES:
 Crow
 Sparrow
 Pigeon
 Parrot
 Eagle
 etc
 Kiwi
 Ostrich
 Penguin
 Hen
 Peacock
 etc
