Birds are characterized by feathers, wings adapted for flight from hollow bones, a toothless beak, and a syrinx sound box in the neck. They lay hard-shelled eggs and have lungs, warm blood, and are classified as either flying or flightless running birds. Examples include crows, sparrows, pigeons, parrots, eagles as flying birds and kiwis, ostriches, penguins, hens, and peacocks as running birds.
