CALL Perspectives Question 6
CALL (Computer Assisted Language Learning) was an essential part of the education for several students at MIIS. It exposed them to useful tools, helped them develop teaching skills, and increased their understanding of how technology can enhance language learning. While some felt it did not directly impact their own language learning, most agreed it provided valuable insights into organizing resources and reflecting on best practices in their future work. Exposure to different projects and examples through CALL helped the students conceptualize their own ideas and grow as educators.

Before taking CALL courses, many students had misconceptions about what CALL involved or lacked clarity on the topic. Some thought it focused solely on grammar/vocabulary programs [Andrew] or using the internet as a teaching tool [Afiwa]. Others found CALL nebulous [Heidi] or were afraid of technology [Kamila]. Some had limited experience using videos or CDs in teaching but didn't consider it true CALL [Karen]. A few were unsure of its usefulness or didn't see how it fit with their plans [Celia, Robin]. Overall, many entered CALL courses without a clear understanding of what it encompassed.
Introduction to the World Humanities: New Orleans Voodoo

CALL Perspectives Question 2
1) After taking CALL courses, perceptions of CALL changed from seeing it as a tool to a constructive medium that maximizes collaboration, student interest and learning.
2) CALL courses improved understanding by learning about numerous tools like Google Sites and WordPress, and how tools like blogs can be used for language teaching.
3) One realized the importance of technology in language learning but is still trying to integrate it, and that there should be more sharing of experiences to help new students feel less lost.
Question 1 for CALL Perspectives
Several students had misconceptions about CALL prior to taking CALL courses. Some thought it focused only on grammar/vocabulary programs (Andrew) or using the internet as a teaching tool (Afiwa). Others were unsure of what CALL entailed (Heidi, Robin) or afraid of technology (Kamila). Karen's only experience with CALL was showing videos in class. Celia thought CALL may be useful but not necessary and she was already familiar with technology. Alicia didn't know much about CALL despite prior online studies. Angelica found CALL awesome but too broad without a focus area.

One year in japan
