Story
The area has been inhabited since Dacian and Roman times, and was
the site of a castrum. Râmnicu Vâlcea was first attested during the
rule of Prince Mircea cel Bătrân, as "the princely town of Râmnic"
(4 September 1388), and confirmed as the seat of a Vâlcea
County during the same period (8 January 1392).
3. “MIRCEA CEL BATRAN” PARK
Story
The Park “Mircea cel Bătrân” is located at one hundred
meters from the “kilometer 0” of the city Râmnicu Vâlcea.
About the walls surrounding it, some say it would be relics of
the princely fortress of Mircea cel Bătrân. Therefore, the main
entrance is watched, since 1970, by the statue of Mircea cel
Bătrân, work of the sculptor Ion Irimescu.

5. The story of this historic monument begins
with the family Socoteanu about which
Nicolae Iorga said that they were the only
true aristocrats from Râmnic.
In ”Mircea cel Bătrân” Park is the statue of the
poet George Ţărnea, an imposing figure for the
Romanian contemporary poetry. Born on Vâlcea
lands, he remained bound irreversibly of Râmnicu
Vâlcea.
6. ZAVOI PARK
Story
"Zăvoi" Park is one of the oldest parks in the country taking
birth almost 170 years ago, by princely Ofis issued by Prince
Barbu Știrbey. Here, on July 29, 1848, was sworn on the
Revolutionary Constitution, and the choir led by Anton Pann
has intoned the future state anthem "Awaken thee, Romanian!".
7. Barbu Dimitrie Stirbey
Barbu Dimitrie Ştirbei, also written as Stirbey, (b. Craiova, 1799 - d. Nice, April 13,
1869), a member of the Bibescu boyar family, was a Prince of Wallachia on two occasions,
between 1848–1853 and between 1854–1856. Born to Dumitrache Bibescu and his wife,
he was adopted by his maternal grandfather, the last of the Ştirbei family who left him heir to
his wealth and family name.

At the entrance to the park is, from 1920, a statuary group known
as “the Renaissance” or “Romania emancipation”, work of the
sculptor Constantin Gheorghe Mihăilescu. The statue embodies the
desire for freedom and independence of the Romanian people,
expressed through the efforts of a strong man flexing in the struggle
for emancipation of the country, which comes to light and is
represented by a young woman half detached from the rock.

10. Story
In the year 1982, a group of several artists from Vâlcea - among which
Ecaterina Popa, Maria Gaghel, Constantin Neacșu and Sergiu Saliste –
did all the legal steps to the local power of that time and succeeded to
obtain a space for arranging the Art Gallery and Magazinul Fondului
Plastic (Store of Plastic Artist Fund).
11. "ANTIM IVIREANUL" COUNTY LIBRARY
Story
The current headquarters of the “Antim Ivireanul” County Library was
inaugurated on June 21st 2004. The modern building distinguishes itself
through a unique architecture and a highly remarkable stained-glass window
cupola executed by the local artist, Gheorghe Dican.

13. "ION DUMITRESCU" PHILHARMONIC
Story
This prestigious institution of national culture is unfolding a permanent
season, offering to the music fans from Vâlcea, and also to the tourists

14. COURTHOUSE OF VÂLCEA COUNTY
Story
The Justice Palace where Courthouse of Vâlcea County is functioning
today represents an architectural monument registered in the List of
Historical Monuments from 2004.
15. STATUE OF INDEPENDENCE
Story
Emplaced in the center of Râmnicu Vâlcea municipality, in the
vicinity of Râmnicu Vâlcea City Court and Vâlcea County Court,
the Statue of Independence is the work of art of the sculptor Ion
Iordănescu. The artist managed to execute it with the support of a
participant in that war, doctor Gheorghe Sabin, which became a
prefect of Vâlcea.

17. ALEXANDRU LAHOVARI NATIONAL COLLEGE
Story
In 1891, the Minister of Public Instruction approves the establishment of a
“classic” gymnasium in Râmnicu Vâlcea. The courses of the new gymnasium are
opened on September 7, 1891 in the Angelescu residences from the street
Mihai Bravu no. 49, with a single class that numbered 42 romanian and other
nationalities students, among them also islamics.

19. MIRCEA CEL BATRAN NATIONAL COLLEGE
Story
The history of this teaching unit begins in the year 1915, when was founded “Zoe
Bulat – The Lady’s Modern Institute, with classes I-V, under the supervision of
the Ministry of Public Instruction. The tuition fees for private institutions being
enormous for most parents, the Ministry of Public Instruction has come in for help,
admitting for the school year 1919-1920 that the schoolgirls from the superior
course, classes V-VIII, to be signed up alongside boys in mixed classes.
20. "CASA SIMIAN" ART MUSEUM
Story
The building which houses the Museum of Art belonged to the family
Nae and Tita Simian, owners of a shoe factory in Râmnicu Vâlcea, in
the mid of 20th century.
21. The permanent exhibition of the Museum of Art brings together
valuable works of Romanian painting and sculpture, signed by renowned
artists: Grigorescu, Vermont, Storck, Petrascu, Tonitza, Pallady,
Țuculescu, Ressu etc. Among them, the Museum also possesses a
painting of the Venetian School from the first half of 18th century.
Another collection of graphic works, drawings and watercolors, is
temporary exposed.
22. HISTORY MUSEUM
Story
The building of the former “School with clock”, representative
edifice for the Râmnicu Vâlcea town from the 19th century,
houses the History Museum.
23. The permanent exhibition collections are disposed chronologically,
beginning with archaeological testimonies from Paleolithic-era,
continuing with the ones from Roman period and the one of affirmation
of the feudal state Tara Româneasca.
24. "ANTON PANN" MEMORIAL HOUSE
Story
The house which lodges the memorial exposition ”Anton Pann” is an
urban architecture monument, built in the mid 18th century, having
oriel and cellar. Due to the fact that it is included in the Touristic
Guide of Romania, it is the main museal objective for visitors outside
Vâlcea county.
25. The exhibition attempts to point the peregrinations in Vâlcea parts,
dating from the years 1826-1828, 1836-1840, of the one remaining
in the consciousness of the descendands as “Pepelea’s son as smart as a
proverb” and who was music teacher (“dascăl de musichie”) at the
school organised near the Archdiocese of Râmnic.
26. HERMITAGE TROIANU
Story
The monastic settlement from Troianu, located in the south of
the city of Ramnicu Valcea, on the hill of the same name, was
built between 1838-1840 by Hrisant Penetis-Hurezeanu,
aromân of Thessaly, was abbot of the monastery Hurezi. It is
believed that the shrine was built on the site of an older, from
the eighteenth century.
27. VILLAGE MUSEUM
Story
The village museum has been outlined its topical profile since
1974, like a form of a village museum destinated to
reconstitute, on a 8 hectars area, the functional image of a
traditional rural settlement with all its social - cultural
institutions.
28. WEDDINGS HOUS
Story
Monument protected, CASA Petrescu, built in 1909.
It was a home service during the First Secretaries
county, then became a kindergarten and is now home
marriages. In the past it was here the most beautiful
rose garden in the city.
29. RAMNIC ARCHIEPISCOPATE
Story
The first Romanian metropolis, the Metropolis of Ungro-Wallachia,
was created in 1359, followed in 1370 by the Metropolis of
Severin west of the Olt River. Due to incursions by the Kingdom of
Hungary, it was moved in 1375 from Severin to Strehaia,[1]
reaching Râmnic at some point after the death of Mircea I of
Wallachia in 1418.
30. HALL RM. VALCEA
Story
The current building mayors made by Antonio Copetti.
Copetti is town councilor of the city as seen from a
report dated December 5, 1916. Other works attributed
the Italian architect are introducing running water and
sewage system in Râmnicu Vâlcea.
31. ANTON PANN THEATRE
Story
Theatre Anton was born, as a professional institution in May
1990 by decision Valcea Prefecture. He is the continuer of a
local theater long tradition of over 100 years old. Rm.Vâlcea
Theatre was popular in the years 1960-1980 one of the most
valuable amateur theaters in the country, was rewarded with
numerous national and international awards.

Story
For those who want to spend a few hours outdoors, the
best destination is the south of the city, where there
is an assembly of Zoo, Base Recreation and Resort
Strand Ostroveni Ostroveni. The pools of salt water
from the swimming pool Ostroveni are known
throughout the country for their healing, and nearby
is a lake where you can practice water sports.

Story
It can go either to one of the restaurants with Romanian
specific - where the choice between tripe soup, sausages,
cabbage and stew Oltenia is a really difficult - or at a
restaurant with international cuisine. Along with restaurants,
