26. At the moment the population of the Vidin
district is about 123 000 people. It has the
smallest population in Bulgaria
27. The town is located by the Danube river where the
second bridge on the river is being built.
The ferry is the connection with the Romanian town
Kalafat.
28. Here is mausoleum of exarch Antim I –
first Bulgarian exarch. The cathedral„St
Dimitar“ in Vidin is the second largest
cathedral in Bulgaria after „Alexander
Nevski” in Sofia.
30. Cultural and natural sites
The Baba Vida castle is the only medieval entirely
preserved Bulgarian castle. This is a national
cultural memorial and a tourist place.
31. The Synagogue It was built in 1894 by
an unknown
architect. At present,
it is in a process of
restoration.
32. The mosque and the library of Osman Pazvantoglu were
built at the end of the 18 century. The mosque is
remarkable for its minaret ending with a heart at the top.
34. The history museum
It was established as an archeological society in 1910. In
1956 the old building Konaka became a cultural memorial
which was committed to the activities of the museum.

35. Krastatata kazarma-the cross-
shaped barracks-was built in
1801 in the place of the garden of
the old Sarai.
At present the
ethnographic exposition
of the History museum is
kept in it.
