Sosnowiec is a city in southern Poland that has been settled since the 12th century and was granted town privileges in 1902. Some of its main attractions include Patelnia square, Sielecki Castle which dates back to the Middle Ages, Schön Palace built in 1885, and the train station from 1859. The city is also known for its parks, theatres, and has produced famous composers and singers like Władysław Szpilman and Jan Kiepura.

8. Patelnia („the frying pan”) is the public square in
Sosnowiec. With a lot of shops and restaurants,
Patelnia became the center of the city.

11. The Sielecki Castle is the oldest monument in
Sosnowiec. His history dates back to the Middle
Ages. The castle was burnt in 1824 and rebuilt in
1832.

48. Władysław Szpilman was the Polish composer
and pianist. He was born in 1911 in Sosnowiec.
He is known from his songs- „W małym kinie”
(„In the little cinema”), Elegia jesienna („Autumnal
elegy”), compositions- „The Life of the Machines”,
„Ballet Scene” and from the film „Pianist” by Roman
Polański.

50. Jan Kiepura was born in 1902 in Sosnowiec.
He was very talented Polish singer (tenor)
and actor.
