Citing An Essay Mla
Composing an essay on the intricacies of citing in MLA format may initially seem like a
straightforward task, but delving into the nuances reveals a complexity that can be quite
challenging. The Modern Language Association (MLA) style requires a meticulous approach to
citation, demanding adherence to specific guidelines for citing various sources, including essays.
Navigating through the intricacies of in-text citations, works cited pages, and the correct
formatting of bibliographic entries requires a keen eye for detail and a thorough understanding of
the MLA guidelines.
One of the primary challenges lies in memorizing and applying the different citation formats for
diverse sources such as books, articles, online resources, and essays within anthologies. Each
type of source demands its own set of rules and conventions, making it crucial for the writer to
maintain consistency throughout the essay. Additionally, grasping the nuanced rules for handling
multiple authors, corporate authors, and editions can further complicate the process.
Furthermore, the constant updates and revisions to the MLA guidelines add another layer of
difficulty. Staying abreast of the latest changes and ensuring that the essay aligns with the most
current MLA standards can be a time-consuming task. The meticulous attention to detail
required in tracking down publication information, page numbers, and online URLs can be both
mentally taxing and time-intensive.
While some may find the challenge of mastering MLA citation rules intellectually stimulating,
others may find it daunting. It demands not only a thorough understanding of the MLA
guidelines but also a commitment to precision and accuracy. Striking the right balance between
providing comprehensive citations and maintaining the flow of the essay adds an extra layer of
complexity to the writing process.
In conclusion, crafting an essay on the topic of citing an essay in MLA format demands a careful
and detail-oriented approach. It requires a writer to navigate through a web of rules and
conventions, staying updated on revisions, and maintaining consistency throughout the
document. Despite the difficulties, a well-crafted essay that adheres to MLA guidelines
demonstrates not only a mastery of citation but also a commitment to academic integrity.

Understanding and Applying GDP in Economics
This paper takes a look into how to measure aggregate output/productivity and the
wellbeing of an economy as a whole by factoring consumption, investment,
government spending, net exports and imports. Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is an
effective tool that can aid economist in comparing current economic situations with
years past. GDP can also help make an assumption on where the economy is heading
in the future.
Part I Assume that Country A has a population of 500,000 and only produces one
good cars. Country A produces 100,000 cars per year. The people in Country A
purchase 90,000 cars, but there are not enough cars to fulfill all the demand. They
decide to import 50,000 more. The government buys 25,000 cars for its police
force, and 10,000 cars are bought by companies to transport employees to other
locations to work. They also export 65,000 cars to nearby countries for sale.
GDP Defined
To find find Country A s GDP you must use the GDP equation (Consumption

The Pros And Cons Of Sweatshops
According to Ian Maitland s The Great Non Debate over International Sweatshops,
there is a large misconception that sweatshops set up by large corporations are a
negative force on developing countries and its citizens. This perception is derived
from journalists claims that corporations underpay their outsourced workers in
order to maximize company profit. Additionally, another claim made by these
journalists is that the wages received by these workers are below the necessary
living wages needed in order to survive with dignity. Maitland refutes these claims
by focusing on reports of labor conditions at Nike s Indonesian plant. The majority
of these personal accounts present a more favorable perspective of corporations
using international suppliers. The introduction of the essay presents what many
critics believe to be a major moral conflict, which is that more companies are
relying on sweatshops for cheaper labor. More specifically, companies are accused
by critics of chasing cheap labor around the globe, failing to pay their workers
living wages, using child labor, turning a blind eye to abuses of human rights,
being complicit with repressive regimes in denying workers the right to join unions
and failing to enforce minimum labor standards in the workplaces, and so on (553).
Brands, such as Liz Claiborne and Kathie Lee Gifford, have faced criticism for their
use of child laborers who typically endure long hours of work. In response to this
public outcry, companies
Advantages And Disadvantages Of Judicial Appointment...
Justice of India, the appointment should be made as a healthy convention. In July
1998, the President of India asked for the advisory opinion of the Supreme Court on
various areas of the judgment of 1993 including the issue of consultation. In October
1998, the Supreme Court in its advisory opinion confirmed the primacy of the Chief
Justice s opinion over that of the President in appointing judges. The Court, however,
observed that the sole, individual opinion of the Chief Justice of India does not
constitute consultation within the meaning of Arts 217 and 222(1) of the
Constitution. In appointing judges to the Supreme Court, the Chief Justice must
make a recommendation in consultation with the four most senior puisne judges of
the Supreme Court. In the case of appointments to the High Courts, the Chief Justice
must consult the two most senior puisne judges of the Supreme Court. The views of
the puisne judges should be in writing and should be conveyed to the [President] by
the Chief Justice of India along with his [or her] views . The Supreme Court... Show

Despite this, in order to maintain public confidence in the appointment system and to
ensure judicial independence the commission system is perhaps a very effective
mechanism for judicial appointment. However, to ensure the effectiveness of this
mechanism the commission should be representative in nature comprising members
of the executive, legislature, judiciary, legal profession and lay persons. In addition, it
should be ensured that the commission uses a system which is transparent and open
to public scrutiny. In this regard the composition and working system of the South
African Judicial Service Commission may be an acceptable model. Such a
mechanism may be very effective to ensure the appointment of the best qualified
people to judicial
The Discourse Of A Dorm At Western University ( Gunnison
)...
Context Description The Discourse that will be analyzed further in this paper,
occurred over Facebook messenger (text) at 8:30 p.m. September 20th, 2016. One
participant was in a dorm in CU Boulder, CO. The other in a dorm in Western
University (Gunnison), CO. Despite this far geographical separation, Facebook
messenger served as our link and setting of communication. The only two
participants involved in this discourse was Grace Welden, my best friend, and
Myself (Taylor Salazar). Two friends with no audience. The particular purpose of
the discourse was mainly to see how each of us were doing with college and how
the day was going, however, the conversation escalated, in order of acts/ events
,after we began to talk about relationships into a discussion that s end goals were to
come to an understanding behind my choice to leave a group chat that had all our
mutual friends on it 1 month prior to this conversation; and to come to an
understanding about why I feel the way I do about our mutual friends, as a means to
reconcile in some way. The tone of this discussion quickly shifted from one of
carefreeness and silliness while we were asking how each was doing, to more of a
serious, considerate, respectful, and understanding tone as we discussed our feelings
bout our mutual friendships. This kind of tone is normally expected in any discourse
taking place between best friends; as are instrumentalities of: endearment, obscene
language, slang, and second person pronouns enhancing
Ancient Egyptians Vs Sumerians
While both the Egyptians and Sumerians developed a sophisticated way of life with
complex religion, political system, system of writing and social classes, there are
numerous differences between the two groups. The Egyptian s beliefs in gods and
goddesses indicated the significance of nature in their lives and every human activity.
The Egyptiansthought that the power of nature were superintended by the different
deities. They also believed that the gods and goddesses had the power of life and death
over everyone. The ancient Egyptians thought that after death they could enjoy their
lives because they believed that in the afterlife people were happy, well fed, and
busy with the same activities they had done in life. This belief sometimes led
Habit By Alain De Botton Summary
In Habit Alain De Botton, the author mentions different ways one could travel
without leaving the comfort of their home. The individual will come across the
traveler s mindset and see everything in a new light; what was the ordinary will
become wonderous and exciting. One s ordinary home will no longer be dull but
quite entertaining. Developing the traveler s mindset, one will start reversing the
process of habituation; seeing the world through the eyes of the new. Possible
Worlds: Why do Children Pretend Alison Gopnik, has many similarities to De Botton
s writing in subtle ways. Gopnik goes in detail on counterfactuals and the necessity of
imagination in order to make possible worlds. Both authors explain the importance in

By changing one mindset into one of a traveler, can cause a person to view
everything around them in a fresh light. Thinking counterfactually allowed De
Maistre to see his own bedroom in a picturesque way. He first sees everything
around him as just tools to get him by, but as he went on his journey, he came to
realize the warmth that everything around him provided and learns to appreciate this
complex piece of furniture (61) from a traveler s vantage point (64). De Maistre
changed his thought process in order to view what is in front of him differently. He
considered the varying ways the world could possibly be. As Gopnik says,
Counterfactuals let us change the future. Because we can consider alternative
ways the world might be, we can actually act on the world and intervene to turn it
into one or the other possibilities (165). De Maistre had to intervene in order to
make this possible future a reality, he was frustrated that many scenes that are
deemed ordinary go unnoticed by the public due to its averageness (62). De Maistre
took it upon himself to stop viewing the world as boring and instead decided to
admire everything just by looking at what was in front of him. In doing so he viewed
the world in alternative ways. Imagining something in another setting can cause
different outcomes and possibilities to occur, it allows one to change the future to fit

Guilt Quotes In Fifth Business
Guilt, this is something that all humans have experienced, its defined as a feeling of
worry or unhappiness because you have done something wrong. First, your stomach
starts to turn, then, your heart feels crushed and your mind moves as fast as lightning
with only the thoughts of your own immoral actions keeping you awake. It is a cold
feeling. An empty feeling. A dreadful feeling. In the novel Fifth Business by
Robertson Davies, Dunstan had felt extreme guiltthroughout his whole life due to
what had happened to Mrs. Dempster. He let his guilt run his entire life. Throughout
my life, I have also been in situations where I have felt guilt, but this situation in
particular made me realize what true guilt really is. The amount of guilt that... Show

I was the one who broke the vase, it was my fault, he shouldn t have had to suffer
for my actions. As a result, my parents were absolutely furious. Not so much
because I had broken the vase, but because I blamed my brother for it. Even
though confessing was hard to do, I knew it had to be done in order to gain the
trust from my siblings and myself, to have my brother and my parents forgive me
and to be myself again. Of course, I was grounded double the sentence that my
parents had given to my brother due to the facts that I lied to them but in the end, it
was worth it. I know now that taking responsibility for one s actions is inevitable,
in order to have a clear conscience and free mind, I have to be able to admit my
mistakes. Just as Stefan Zweig said No guilt is forgotten so long as the conscience
still knows of it. . Zweig s wise words relate to both Dunstan and I, guilt weighed
heavily on our hearts until we came clean about what we had done. Conversely, in
Dunstan s case, it took years of torment from his guilt to finally tell Boy and Paul

Why I Chose To Attend Georgetown University
Georgetown University is my first choice college for numerous reasons. The first, and
likely the most obvious, is it s phenomenal academic reputation. Georgetown is the
pinnacle of higher education in the United States, and this is shown with two US
Presidents, 24 US Governors, and countless others that have been successful both
inside and outside of the classroom attending the University. The academics that
Georgetown has to offer will better prepare me for life after college, and thus would
let me make more of an impact on the world. Not to mention that I will be
surrounded by thousands of peers that will hold me to the highest expectation
possible in order to succeed. The second reason for why Georgetown is my first
choice is for the innumerable intangibles that the University possess. Being in
Washington D.C., which is arguably the most historic city in the United States, will
open me to many opportunities both during and after college. The smaller student
body will give me and my peers a sense of family, and this is a necessity for me when
trying to find the right fit for college. Being a Catholic and attending a Jesuit
University will be... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of my best strong suits is the fact that if given a due date and an assignment, I
will do my best, and this will show with my final product. My grandfather has
always said that every day in every way I am getting better and better , and I truly
believe in this statement. At Georgetown, I will be able to get better every single
day, but I will also get those around me better. I like to believe that I hold those
around me to a high standard, and vice versa, in order for us to perform at our best
at all times. Going to college is an opportunity unlike any other in the sense that
you go to get a great education that will best prepare you for life after college, and at
Georgetown I will be able to do this
The Ecologist s Guide On Habitat Loss
The Ecologist s Guide to Habitat Loss Over the course of the past few centuries, the
Earth as a whole has felt anthropogenic effects due to increased human presence and
impacts such as habitat loss. Habitat loss is the process of damage and eventual
destruction in some cases of ecosystems on a local and global scale which result in
them not being able to systematically support the species present due to displacement
or destruction which successively reduces biodiversityof endemic species. Habitat
loss and fragmentation have been known to be the greatest threats to biodiversity
worldwide. The cause and effect of human impacts on tropical rainforests has led to
extinction of local organisms on a grand scale which has resulted in what is... Show

The causes of habitat loss/destruction will be explored in regards to deforestation and
conversion of land to agriculture while simultaneously elucidating on the effects
which range from biotic interaction, reduced biodiversity, changes in habitat use, and
the loss of ecosystem services.
Biotic Interactions in Fragmented Habitats Deforestation is the permanent
destruction or fragmentation of forests in order to make the land available for other
uses which has caused disruption in habitats within tropical rainforests. It has led to
fragmentation of habitats which influence birth and death related processes (Harrison
and Bruna 1999). Habitat deterioration also imposes novel selection stresses on
organisms, enlarging local extinction rates. Reduced movement among remnant
patches for mammals lowers colonization rates, which further negatively affects
demographic and genetic population parameters. Many studies have already shown
that fragmentation in tropical rainforests presents grave problems for large trees, but
not much data has been collected for early plant life stages.
These stages are explored in a study done in Central Amazonia in which
fragmentation has had an adverse effect on seedlings. It was found that the life form
composition and structure of plant pool fragments have been shifting toward a
species poor seedling community (Benitez Malvido and Martinez Ramos 2003). This
has resulted from the loss of understory species diversity with high regard to

its principles and concepts, the social and economic contexts and the relevant
policy issues and non legal resolutions, which diminish the models of legal services
provisions, and the relation to the Legal Services Act 2007 Introduction First, we
need to understand the meaning of business structures, which essentially are how
the business are organised, rules and policies to compose the formation of the
business, the roles and responsibilities to effectively control and coordinate the
daily issues. The importance of the Legal Services in the UK economy, is growing

Famine, Affluence, and Morality Essay
In the article by Singer, P. (1972) Famine, affluence, and morality main argument is
that to persuade his readers in what people of wealth and governments should help
with famine relief, especially in East Bengal as one example given. Singer is
furthermore also mention somewhat of and utilitarianism. Therefore, according to
Mosser, K. (2010) A concise introduction to philosophy states that the act
utilitarianismapplies the idea of utilitarianism to specific acts, emphasizing what
moral is what produces the greatest good for the greats number...contrast with rule
utilitarianism (2010, Glossary). However, it is important to remember that Singer

(p. 962)
To explain the three counter arguments on Singer s response were weak and only
seen to relate to the fact of the Bengalis and leaving other cultures behind or others
such as Ethiopia where famine is a daily existence of life there. Therefore, Singer
(1972) argues about trying to find:
Distinction between duty and charity in some other place... that the present way of
drawing the distinction, which makes it an act of charity for a man living at the level
of affluence, which most people in the developed nations enjoy giving money to save
someone else from starvation, cannot be supported. (p. 235)
Lastly, Singer looks at the moral scheme of things and how they justify on giving
aid and how the principle of marginal unity can apply. As he states that we have an
obligation and duty to help others in famine suffering if we can do so, then it is in
your morals scheme makeup to do so. According to Singer (1972) states that he
had, One objection to the position I have taken might be simply that it is too drastic
a revision of our moral scheme. People do not ordinarily judge in the way I have
suggested they should (p. 236). Another point that Singer made was that The
conclusion that should be drawn is that the best means of preventing famine, in the
long run, is population control (p. 240). Therefore, the point is to help if one is able
to or better yet,

Shakespeare s Life And Characters In Hamlet By William...
Throughout the years, humankind had find different ways to pass the time. One
way to pass the time for humans is writing. This is a form of expressing our inner
feelings, helping others, or communicate with one another. During the 1590 s, an
author by the name of William Shakespeare began writing plays to entertain not
only himself, but his audiences as well. Like any other author, his plays came from
inspirations, more specifically, Hamlet. His life views can be seen in this play and
influenced how characters interacted with others or viewed life. Due to William
Shakespeares terrible experiences with love, his characters in Hamlet and other
works experience hardships with romantic affairs. At the age of eighteen years
old, in November 1582, Shakespeare married Anne Hathaway who at the time was
twenty six years old. Since his wife was expecting a child, they married rather
hastily also know as a shot gun wedding (Potter, 10). By 1585, Shakespeare had a
total of three children, which in turn did not help his finance issues. According to
Scholar Lois Potter, Shakespeare spent most of his time in London, where he made
most of his works, which could have been a form of birth control. During his time in
London, it is thought that he had an affairwith several women. He wrote his works in
London and even after he retired, he frequently visited London. Towards the end of
his retirement, Shakespeare s child, Susanna, married John Hall, who ended up
having an affair with
Environmental Waste And Its Effects On Carbon Emissions
To get around the issue of these powerful companies being upset from the negative
financial impact from the move to zero carbon, a shift must be made in governmental
policy. Perhaps the solution may not be punishing companies for producing too much
pollution, but rewarding companies for producing much less. In this way, the market
for carbon emissions will eventually disappear and naturally profit seeking companies
will aim to pursue activities, hunt for new strategies, and invest in infrastructure and
equipment that result in lower carbon emissions. Beyond the simple reward
proposition, however, greener policies often result in higher long term profitability
for companies nonetheless. Environmental waste is often the best proxy for
identifying and eliminating economic waste, meaning that many companies are
currently increasing their profitability while simultaneously following a strategy in
pursuance of zero carbon emissions. In fact, notoriously profit focused companies like
Tesco and WalMart have announced their intentions to pursue environmental action
not out of moral motivation, but in clear quests for greater profitability. The reason
for their actions is the simple recognition that environmental and economic interests
are often closely aligned. Nearly 50 separate studies from the Economist Intelligence
Unit, Goldman Sachs, AT Kearney, Deloitte, MIT Sloan, Harvard and others show
that companies that commit to environmentally responsible goals, particularly

My pay for 2016, as per W 2 is $80,964.67. With regard to salary expectation, there
are other factors to consider such as challenge, growth potential, company product

Tampa is ideal for my family and accounts for a lot being long term. Thus, salary is

short story Riding the Red , a modern adaptation of Charles Perrault s Little Red

s adaptation, the goal remains the same: through the grandmother biographic

In Hopkinson s story, experience is central as it leads to potential complications
the grandmother tries to avoid for her granddaughter by telling her personal story.

because she believes her girl is too young. This opposition between both characters

contains allegories and a moral which are features of fairy tales. This text mixes
both types which revels Hopkinson s style, designated by herself in a 1999

Bill Ackman, Pershing has a reputation for taking stakes in underperforming
companies and working with their management teams to bring about changes.
Pershing, which pressured Wendy s to spin off Tim Hortons in 2006, said in its

other stockholders about the railroad s business and its future. 2 By contrast, CN
managed to transform itself from a bloated government utility into a lean, mean
transportation business after it was privatized in 1995. It

Declaration of the Independence of NZ
1) I chose the Declaration of the Independence of New Zealand because of it has
great significance. New Zealand declared its independency from the United Kingdom
on the 28th of October 1835 in Waitangi. It was James Busby, with the help of
missionary Henry Williams and William Colenso, who then prepared a statement to
give the northern Maori chiefs to sign after there were rumours that the United States
or France were thinking of claiming New Zealand as their own. The statement s
purpose was to recognise the independency and sovereignty of the New Zealand
Maori tribes. The sketch statement that was signed was written in Maori, but another
English translation was prepared as well.
2) I will be talking about James Busby who played a major role in making New
Zealand s independency possible. James Busby was born in Scotland on the 7th of
February 1802. He studied viticulture in France. After that he moved to Australia.
After staying there for a couple of years, Busby moved with his family to New
Zealand after presenting his viticulture journals that he published and were
considered as New Zealand memoir. That granted him an appointment with the
Colonial Office after he presented his work. Then Busty was appointed on March
1832 a New Zealand British Resident. He arrived to the Bay of Islands on May
1833 and then settled in Waitangi. Busby s major purpose was to manage and look

Final Paper: Stress in the workplace

BUS 318: Organizational Business
Instructor: Gary Priest
Final Paper: Stress in the workplace Organizational behavior is the study of
individuals and their behavior within an organized work environment. Many different
facets of the business world make up organizational behavior including: motivation,
personality, leadership, communication, and so much more. However, I plan to focus
on the topic of stress within organizational behavior. Depending on how it is handled
stress can be both positive and negative. However, when it is not recognized and
handled properly stress can cause serious problems. Throughout this paper I ... Show

Another common stressor is physical setting: noise, lack of privacy, poor lighting,
poor ventilation, poor temperature control, or inadequate sanitary facilities.
Settings where there is organizational confusion or an overly authoritarian, laissez
faire, or crisis centered managerial style are all psychologically stressful. (American
Psychological Association, 2012) People are most productive when they are
comfortable. If the office is too cold, too loud, unclean, etc. it could cause the
employee to shift their focus off of the task they are doing and onto whatever it is
that is causing their work environment to be less than comfortable. Finally, there
are stressors in our personal lives that may have nothing to do with work but may
spill over into our work lives. Things like divorce, birth of a child, death of a
family member, and financial issues can cause stress in our personal lives. These
stressors cause us to be distracted and we lose focus on what we are doing at work.
This can cause accidents on the jobs or a decrease in productivity. Furthermore, as
we let the stress of our personal lives spill over into our work lives we may become
agitated, short tempered, and difficult to be around. Our attitude then begins to affect
those working around us, which in turn causes stress in their lives. I am definitely
guilty of letting the stress from my personal life affect my work. Even something as
small as fighting with my husband
Inside Out Directed By Pete Doctor
Overview The animated film Inside Out directed by Pete Doctor is about the
change in emotions due to stress, and how the brain changes with age. The film is
about the mind of an 11 year old girl named Riley, who is trying to remain happy
with the family move from Minnesota to San Francisco. Once the family arrives in
San Francisco, a series of events happen that make her upset or disappointed.
However, she tries her best to please her parents by pretending to be happy. The
movie also highlights the function of short and long term memory, and the
psychological changes in becoming a pre teen. The major characters in the film were
the personification of her emotions: Joy, Sadness, Fear, Disgust and Anger. These
five personifications worked together to allow Riley to function, and express how she
is feeling (Doctor Carmen, 2015). Pre Adolescent Female Brain During the pre
adolescent years, the brain is under major construction, but still is able to process
information, and make firm decisions based on emotions. In addition, when a child
gets older, their personality evolves, and their relationships with others grow and
change. In the film, Riley s actions were determined by her emotion at that moment,
which impacted her relationship with her parents and best friend. Also, Riley s
personality evolved when she got older. Her personality expanded to include thoughts
about boys, fashion and other teenager thoughts (Doctor Carmen, 2015). Although,
the brain has developed it
The Organizational And Behavioral Sources Of Potential...
The article chosen for CASE was written by Chau titled An Empirical Investigation
on Factors Affecting the Acceptance of CASE by Systems Developers. This article
examines the organizational and behavioral sources of potential difficulties of
CASE adoption among developers. Since CASE is used solely by information
system professionals, the study conducted by Chau was developed to reveal factors
that affect acceptance by systems developers (1996, p. 270). At the time of Chau s
study, CASE was a relatively new approach for information system professionals and
many developers were required to use it upon its implementation within a company.
This change forced many information system professionals to alter their work, skills,
and attitude which often can result in resistance (Chau, 1996). The most significant
effect Chau found for acceptance of CASE was ease of use and perceived usefulness
within the constructs of long term consequences. Since many of the information
system professionals in the study had limited experience with CASE, the gap in
experience impacted the ease of use and therefore acceptance of the CASE systems.
Perceived usefulness within long term consequences helped the information system
professionals accept CASE since using new technology can affect future career
prospects. The CASE experience gained may help the individual in finding and
obtaining new positions. Chau suggested that it would be beneficial for a company
implementing CASE for the first time to
Finding A Drive Down The Road
Think Of Both Sides Picture the average family, a protective mother, a proud
father, and a young child are all taking a drive down the road. One second
everything is happy, there are smiles all around and small bickering among the
parents which takes their attention away from the road for only a second . All of a
sudden the sounds of screeching and screaming fills the air. Crushed glass covers
the ground while smoke rises from the engine of the car. As it begins to fade away,
it becomes clear what the cause of the sudden crash is. Because even though there
was only one child in there car, two are laying on the ground covered in scrapes
and bruises. People frantically rush to their sides, disbelief in their eyes as they try
to help in any way they can think of. Yet, the damage is already done and a life is
on it s way to ending. This situation is a very real possibility that could happen to
anyone which is one of the reasons Ekburg.ru made this advertisment.for the public.
The meaning of this advertisement can be interpreted in many different ways yet the
main reason would be to convince drivers to keep their attention on the road ahead at
all time. So many drivers tend to have distractions everytime they drive and feel as
though they are used to it. This advertisement shows the dangers of being distracted
from the road even if just for one second though many may claim they can drive under
any circumstances. The advertisement states there is an increase of the
Transgender Prisoners And Transgender Inmates Essay
I.Introduction Prisoners that are incarcerated go through many hardships during the
course of their sentence. The mistreatment that inmates in prison encounter is
unjustifiable in many cases. Amongst the inmates mistreated, transgender prisoners
are challenged in many ways with abuse, misconduct, and discrimination. Transgender
individuals are people who do not identify themselves with the genderthat was
assigned at birth. The high risk profile of being a transgender inmate in prisonstrikes
for deep concern and something needs to be done.
II.Purpose of paper Prison personnel have not been doing much to secure the safety
and well being of transgender inmates. Some even engage in the unruly behavior and
are the dominant aspects to the problems that transgender inmates sustain. Many
transgender inmates have attempted to seek justice, but their cases were thrown out.
Consequently, it is imperative that people know the conditions and obstacles, in
which transgender prisoners encounter while incarcerated. The problems and
concerns need to be addressed in order to raise awareness, to help provide safety
and security for transgender prisoners because they are humans too. This paper will
raise awareness and provide insight on the challenges that transgender prisoners
experience, ways to improve conditions, and what policies are already put into place.
III.Background The ultimate reoccurring issue that revolves around transgender
prisoners is that they are inappropriately
Letter For The Nomination Of Bertram Omar Leon For A...
I am proud to send this letter of support for the nomination of Bertram Omar Leon
for a national award, as in my opinion, he has devoted himself to sustain and selfless
voluntary service. Bertram has been serving his community for over 30 years now in
an unassuming, conscientious, methodically and appreciative manner. He also
portrays the characteristics and qualities that are admired in our community. He goes
out of her way to help people in need by organizing charity activities often at his own
expense.
Also, his willingness to take on difficult projects like assisting our own St Lucia
Community Healthcare Ambulance Project to achieve its aims of kitting out the Fire
Ambulances Service on the island with essential patient lifting chairs; the National
Committee for St Lucia Hurricane Relief Appeal where he was at the helms,
collecting essential items for distribution; his stewardship of the relief effort during
the recent Storm disaster in St Lucia; his overall support for his local community and
youth development are just some of his many contributions. I am also aware of his
desire to promote UK Caribbean diaspora development via his many associations
with the Caribbean diaspora communities. He has already successfully influenced the
St Lucia government to adopt a Diaspora Policy, which was recently approved, to
engage and ensure better inclusion of overseas national in the country s national
development plans. He is regarded as an unofficial ambassador for St
Pedagogical Translation Essay
1.1Introduction
Nowadays, in the age of economic and cultural globalization, translation is a
prerequisite activity. Translation is everywhere around us without even realizing it.
Translated texts are in people s life such as their homes, offices or supermarkets
(MachГЎДЌovГЎ, 2013). Thus, it can be said that without translation, our life is full
of difficulties, because of using a mobile phone, or turning on a washing machine or
reading a book written by a foreign author. Schäffner (2000) claims that Translation
as an activity leading to a product has a tradition reaching far back to the beginnings
of recorded history and beyond that the oral tradition. It has always been essential for

The latter aims to train professional translators whereas the former is a means to help
learners acquire, develop, and further strengthen their knowledge and competence in a
foreign language (p. 17).
Pedagogical translation refers to the use of translation in the classroom, to translation
as a language learning activity, an exercise in which translations are not necessarily
produced in a final written form to be handed in, judged and graded, but rather
carried out as a reading comprehension exercise, sometimes as a group activity(Cui
Zhao, 2014). In this research, pedagogical translation operationally refers to the use
of translation in the foreign language classrooms as a writing activity.
1.4.3 Translation Activities
Many ELT teachers and theorists have found the validity and value of translation as
an activity in communicative classrooms (although few course book writers offer
ideas and materials in this area). Some ideas for classroom activities are: Bringing in
examples of L1 language or L2 for discussion and translation.
Bringing in short texts/proverbs/poems and present them to the class, explaining why
they like them. These are then used for
The Importance Of Bilingual Education
According to The Growing Importance of Foreign Language Skills in the U.S. Job
Market which was reported by New American Economy, the need of bilinguals in
America is increasing quickly; the demand has been doubled in the past five years,
as it reached to six hundred and forty thousand. Meanwhile, high prestige job, such
as financial, manages, and industrial engineers, which are considered as high
technical or knowledge requirements experienced a sharply increase from 2010 to
2015 (2017). This report shows that more and more employers choose to select
employees with a bilingual educationexperience, and this tendency continuously
increasing. The topic associated with whether companies should prefer to choose
bilinguals and how this kind of people could promote their companies has become
the focus of social debates. From my perspective, I agree that the companies should
hire more bilinguals because they usually have a strong cognitive ability, a better
sense of belonging, and ability of cultural compatibility. As bilinguals, people are
proved to have a better cognitive ability, which is concerned supporting the company
for two reasons. Esparza and Sierra s (2014) article claims as the following sentences:
Studies over the last four decades have shown cognitive advantages in bilinguals.
Bialystok and colleagues called this cognitive advantage executive control and they
define it as the set of cognitive skills based on limited cognitive resources for such
functions as
Urban Stormwater Runoff And Its Effects On The
Environment
INTRODUCTION
Urban stormwater runoff, considered as one of the most significant diffuse pollution
sources in urban areas, can cause water quality degradation leading to environmental,
ecological and health risks to humans and. Many pollutants, such as nutrients, oils,
microbes, metals, solids, and organic contaminants, are transported through runoff
from urban places to receiving water. These pollutants can be present in many
different forms (e.g. dissolved and particulate bound forms), and differ in origin not
only based on the pollutant type but also according to land use type.
IMPORTANCE OF ASSESSMENT OF STORMWATERQUALITY AND
QUANTITY
The detailed assessment of urban stormwater quantity and quality is vital for
evaluating and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Literature reviews have stressed the possibility of evaluating water pollutant
concentrations (mainly for the total suspended solid) using turbidity which can be
very easily monitored continuously. Total suspended solids is one of the most
important water quality indicator because the fine sediment is one of the most
generally present contaminants found in urban stormwater, which also offers a
medium for the build up, conveyance and storage of other pollutants including
nutrients and metals (McCarthy et al., 2012). Nowdays, more and more care has been
paid on uncertainties in water quantity and quality measurements. Earlier studies have
contributed to practices for uncertainty estimates in data from hydrological and water
quality measurements. It is recognized that uncertainty is inherent in data and thus
should always be taken into account in order to make sensible interpretations and
further applications including analysis of data and modeling.
EFFECT OF WEATHER ON STORMWATER RUNOFF AND PARTICULATE
MATTER
Urban runoff quality and pollutant transport mechanisms have been more commonly
studied in warm and temperate climates, where local weather situations and
catchment properties play a key role, but are less understood and evaluated for cold
climates considered by strong seasonal. In warm and temperate climates, much
mechanisms are known about the main hydrological variables that have a great effect
on runoff quality during
Cartesian Aesthetics
Journal 2 (Truth)
Introduction
Aesthetics and truth are interlinked as one induces the other. Aesthetics are the
philosophy of taste and beauty and vary from person to person. These determine the
varying realities and truths for an individual. The abilities of a person to identify
beauty in things differ from another and this is why truth also varies among people as
it depends upon the notions and conceptions expressed in terms of assertions.
What is Cartesian Aesthetics and how did/does it affect design? Use specific
examples and explore how the concept of aesthetics is linked to that of truth.
Cartesian aesthetics anticipated that Nature and motivation are same: the procedures
that direct science also direct the fine arts. One imperative ... Show more content on

One was the reality of the senses. This is pertinent to the fact that reality of the
physical world includes all that is present in the society, whereas, the second reality is
of the mind. The thoughts and beliefs of an individual form a second reality and it is
universal and unchanging. In the second reality, conceptions of truth, ethics and
justice come into play. Hence, the mind decides the truth of all things by its thoughts
and beliefs and no truth is more universal than that. Truth varies from people to
people. This is eminent in the photographs of any photographer. People see what they
want to see in them and various people can see various things in a single photograph
depending on their thoughts.
A person is likely to ask many questions while watching a photograph while some
people may ask different questions3. This is photographers try to convey a singular
theme in their photographs so that the viewers could discern a certain conclusion
from them. Although they may agree or disagree with the conclusion of the theme,
they are able to identify the thoughts of the photographer in the photographs.

Go Gentle Into That Good Night
For many people, the thought of death is a terrifying concept to fathom. Whether a
beloved family member, pet, or even emotions have died, death in any form continues
to be a challenging subject to communicate about to others. From dances to songs and
from paintings to writings, people express their views on deathin a variety of forms
and fashions. In William Cullen Bryant s Thanatopsis and Dylan Thomas s Do Not
Go Gentle into That Good Night, death exists as the main topic of both poems;
however, Bryant s and Thomas s opinions on death contrast greatly in both works as
a result of each poet s religious beliefs, experiences, family and decisions that
influenced the poems. Bryant and Thomas held different religious beliefs that

Bryant had held a very close relationship with his beloved sister, Sally, who died
young (Gado 295). His sister meant a lot to him, and her death hurt him deeply. He
had also been affected by the death of both his grandfather, Ebenezer Snell, and a
close family friend, the wife of Jacob Porter. Both died in 1813 (Muller 22). Their
deaths added to the stress of a young man who seemed to keep finding death at his
back door. These individuals also influenced the writing of Thanatopsis. In lines 68
through 72, Bryant points out how the ...maid / [t]he speechless babe, and the gray
headed man / [s]hall one by one be gathered to thy side... (Bryant 2). Here, the
poem presents clear references to the deaths of his sister, his grandfather, and family
friend. He thought so much about them and their importance to him that he just
could not leave them out of the poem. Although the deaths of these significant
figures in Bryant s life caused him some heart ache he did not let that dwindle his
support of death. In lines 31 through 34, Bryant promises that a person would not
go alone but [t]hou shall lie down with patriarchs of the infant world... the wise, the
good, / [f]air forms, and hoary seers of ages past... (Bryant 1). Here, Bryant provides
a pleasant feeling about death because he claims that people will go with those they

Human Emotions In Faulkner s A Rose For Emily
Human emotions are a strange thing. We cannot choose which of them we have
and which we don t, but we can choose how we convey them. Faulkner chooses to
convey his emotions in the characters he writes. In A Rose for Emily , Emily takes
on many human emotions that whirlwind around the plot of the story. Faulkner
displays love, sadness, and revenge as human emotion in A Rose for Emily . The
first human emotion that Faulkner displays in A Rose for Emily is love. Emily
falls in love with this man that is not the perfect choice. Homer Barron is a young
man who falls in love with many girls. He is not the marrying type as some would
say. Faulkner said, None of the young men were quite good enough for Miss Emily
and such. Yet, Emily falls head over heels in love for this man. That is all she can
think about. She becomes completely absorbed in his being and cannot focus on
anything else. Until finally, the love floods her brain and she kills him.... Show more

Faulkner lets the reader know that Emily is sad by the way he writes the character.
She prefers to remain submerged in her own thoughts and actions. Faulkner first
introduces sadness into this story when Emily s father dies. She is overcome with
grief and is not able to function or cope. After her father s death, Emily left the
house very seldomly. This changed a bit when she fell in love. They were supposed
to marry until he left her. Faulkner stated, After her father s death she went out very
little; after her sweetheart went away, people hardly saw her at all. This left her with
even more sadness than her father s

The Social Construction of Whiteness and Race in America A comment was made

a topic that came up a few times throughout the semester in and outside of class.
Granted, this topic is based on a single blog post but a collection of comment and
statements that were made on specific blogs and during class sessions. This topic I

around the topic being white. Understandably if you re white in America I think it s
easy to forget exactly how privileged you are. Nonetheless, it forced me to want to
talk about white privilegein America, explain the meaning of paradox of privilege ,...

Tim wise uses pronouns such as we and our many times in speeches. He uses these
pronouns to describe people in general. He is describing essentially every person.
He is giving a message and making a statement out to people all over the world
when using the many pronouns that he does, by fighting for a society in which
those privileges will no longer exist and we will be able to stand on our own two
feet without the artificial crutch of racial advantage to prop us up. We need to
commit to fighting for racial equity and challenging injustice at every turn, not
only because it harms others, but because it diminishes us as well (even as it pays
dividends), and because it squanders the promise of fairness and equity to which
we claim to adhere as Americans. (Page 18 Paragraphs 18) From this quote it is
clear that Wise is not just singling one group of people out he is talking to everyone
(mainly Americans). It is only when you step back, stop looking at the wires one

be the least hindrance to its flight, but which, by their relations to each other, are as
confining as the solid walls
The Pros And Cons Of Mobile Phone Technology
Introduction The domain chosen for this project is technology. I chose this field
because of my strong passion and interest for innovative technology. This report will
involve various datasets such as Statistics analysis of science, technology and
industry, Innovation statistics and indicators, Key biotechnology indicators among
others. The questions that I plan to answer in this analysis are: 1.What are the
aadvantages and disadvantages of mobile phone technology? 2.Does technology
enhance our cognition? 3.Does the development of biotechnology have any impact
on social and economic lives? 4.How many counterfeit mobile phones are sold
globally per year? 5.How has mobile phone technology influenced global tourism?
6.Do mobile phones cause peer pressure in children and youth? 7.What are some of
the current mobile phone pricing structures and trends? 8.Which countries have the
lowest phone call charges? 9.What are some of the key indicators of technological
innovation? 10.What is the contribution of biotechnology firms towards
employment and productivity? The data sets to be used for this analysis will be

Summary Of The Main Conflict In The Son Of Neptune
1) The main conflict in The Son of Neptune is that Camp Jupiter, The Roman
Demigod Training Camp, will be attacked on the day of the Feast of Fortuna, which
happens to be in less than five days, and three demigods must travel north to Alaska,
the land beyond the gods, to recover the legion s eagle and to free Thantos so that
Camp Jupiter can have a fighting chance in the upcoming battle. There are many
conflicts in this story. Another conflict is that Percy has a dilemma because his
memories were stolen by Hera, and she plucked him up out of his life and switched
his life with Jason Grace, a praetor of the legion, as part of her scheme to unite the
Greeks and Romans to fight a greater enemy. Percy can t remember his name,
where he is from but he does know that he has memories that could help Percy to
help Camp Jupiter. Hazel, however has the opposite problem. She has too many
memories of her past life before she came to Camp Jupiter. A third conflict is that
the 5th cohort is now the worst cohort in the legion because of a doomed 1980 s
expedition that caused the legion to lose their eagle a second time. That expedition
had been led by the 5th cohort, so now they get the worst chores and jobs. For
example during the war games, the 5th cohort usually gets thrown at the walls to
soften up the defenses so that other cohorts can claim the victory. During Percy s first
war games, Frank commandeered the fort built by the 1st and 2nd cohorts that day, so
that the fifth cohort
Eva Hart s Survival On The Famous Titanic
The stories are all different in a way but still led up to their survival on the Famous
Titanic. One of the survivors of the Titanic is Eva Hart, in 1912 Eva was only 7
years old when she arrived on the Titanic with her family. Being only 7 you can
image how petrified she was to see what and live to see what had happen to the boat
she was on. When the Titanicstruck the icebergEva s father had gotten Eva and her
mother on the lifeboat without her father, which that day the last to see her father.
Eva and her mother had returned to England with frightful memory and nightmares
of foundering. Eva was just 7 when she almost lost her life to the cold waters of the
Atlantic Ocean. Still being a child she lost her father to the Titanic. Until Eva death
on April 14, 1996 is was and is still one of the most outspoken survivor of the Titanic,
censure the White Star Linefor inadequate the supplies of the lifeboats and the
materials all passengers need to get off the scandalous Titanic ship. Eva was only 1
of the 700 survivors of the Titanic, her stories will be remembered through all the
generations to come.
Comparing the Polygamous Marriges in so Long a Letter
the differences among the polygamous marriages in So Long a Letter.

In it know the constraints, the lies, the injustices that weigh down their consciences
In return for the ephemeral joys of change, I am sure you are motivated by love, a

I think this quotation captures the true essence of the novel and represents the central
conflict. Two of the plot lines in Mariama BГў s So Long a Letter revolve around the
effect of polygamy. The issue of polygamy also remains one of the central issues in
the book. In a letter which is written to her friend Aissatou BГў,Ramatoulaye Fall ...

From the Broadbeach study, the investigation of offshore...
From the Broadbeach study, the investigation of offshore wave conditions erosion
rates and sandbar morphodynamics, show that Broadbeach experienced some
unusual experience during the study period. Given that the wave conditions on the
Gold Coast were considerably less energetic, results suggest that Broadbeach s
beach is significantly vulnerable and is more easily eroded than other beaches
reported. Time series of offshore wave conditions combined with the evolution of
the beach volume also suggests that the studied beach is more exposed to high
erosion rates in the presences of NE to E swell. This trend is in agreement with
visual observation all along the Gold Coast. However, the second and third storm
wave events are estimated to be of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the first and second extreme events mentioned in the study, the 150m wide
Coolangatta Beach experienced the most intense erosion because waves did not
reach the vegetated dune. The beach then recovered markedly, which can be
explained by the presence of the sand bypassing system and sheltering from he SE
high waves (Castelle et al., 2007).
The evolution of measured beach volumes over the study period strongly suggests
that the Gold Coast beaches are not able to withstand a powerful succession of
extreme vents. The first high wave event strongly weakened the beaches, which did
not recover before the second high wave event of a magnitude not unusual along the
Gold Coast. However, in these two cases, the storms resulted in surprisingly high
erosion rates. Data from a more in depth investigation of Broadbeach, using video
imagery, suggest that outer bar decay, resulting in a lack of protection of the sub
aerial beach, may explain this high erosion.
The present results show that high energy easterly swells have a considerable
destructive power on both northern and southern Gold Coast beaches. Even though
no tropical cyclone directly crossed the Gold Coast, which would have resulted in
much higher energy waves and a more severe storm surge, the erosion measured is
the most substantial of the past 30 years. The Gold Coast beaches investigated lost
between 34 and 52m3/m, which, in terms of beach nourishment, is an extremely large
amount of sand. This suggests hat

veterans still to this day: the Vietnam War. To put things in perspective, steel prices
have effects on nearly everything, such as the cost of homes, the cost of appliances,
and the cost of building infrastructures. President Kennedy had been calling for
stable and affordable steel prices for a long time at this point in time; however, the
steel companies still raised the price. The day after the increase in steel prices,
President Kennedy held a news conference to call out the steel companies. In this
news conference, President John F. Kennedydelivers a speech that employs several
rhetorical devices, specifically repetition, ethos, and pathos in order to incite the
audience to protest against the steel companies; which would, in turn, inflict
pressure on the steel companies to lower the cost of steel. Throughout his speech,
Kennedy utilizes a rhetorical device called repetition. Kennedy applies this strategy
when he states, ...It would make it more difficult for American Goods to compete in
foreign markets, more difficult to withstand competition from foreign imports and
thus more difficult to improve our balance of payment positions... (Ln. 35 40) The
evidence clearly represents repetition because the phrase more difficult repeats
exactly three times. Repetition enables Kennedy to provoke urgency by repetition
of the same phrase with regards to convincing the audience into exhorting the steel
companies. Then, Kennedy further employs repetition when he expounds on the
problems already existing in America, and now the steel companies add on to the
stress by increasing steel prices. When he says, ...when we are confronted with
grave crisis and Berlin in Southeast Asia, when we are devoting our energies to
economic recovery and stability... (Ln. 6 9) Kennedy repeats the phrase when we
are in order to allow Kennedy to persuade the audience to protest against the rise in
steel prices so that the steel companies lower the price of steel. The audience will
then see that the hike in steel prices will affect them, which would then produce in
them a

maintain and establish relationships outside of the prison atmosphere to promote
the prisoner s rehabilitation and best interests of his or her family. In PA prisons
they are removing programs from fathers that used to be beneficial. The prisons
had a program called read to me its where a father is recorded reading a book to the
child on a cd and able to mail it with the book home and it was removed. To follow
this and adopt it would be great it may cut down on our younger generation
becoming incarcerated so young. It may deterred the child from having the idea of a
absent parent as out of sight out of mind. To maintain and establish family ties in
prisoncan even cut back on some of the stressors that a inmate face. The support
from a outside family at times is a tremendous help or even greater discharge plan
strategy. Furthermore Rule 108, Services and agencies, governmental or otherwise,
which assist released prisoners in re establishing themselves in society shall ensure,
so far as is possible and necessary, that released prisoners are provided with
appropriate documents and identification papers, have suitable and adequately

and maintain themselves in the period immediately following their release. I m going

Comparing Wollstonecraft s Pride And Prejudice
The novel Pride and Prejudice was set during the late 1700 s and the early 1800 s.
Jane Austen wrote the novel based on the events that occurred around her.
Historical conflicts during the construction of the novel are present in the novel
itself. While writing Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen was influenced by the war
with France, the landed gentry, and marriage and gender roles in her society which
caused the plot, characters, and the outcome of the book. The war with France
stretched over twenty two years, and it affected every level of British society. A
quarter of a million men were serving in the regular army, a militia of officers and
volunteers in the southeast coast of England (where Jane was from) were convinced
that it was an... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In her writing, Wollstonecraft argues that women should be treated with the same
equals as men. This was a conflicting transformation in women s roles that occurred
within the century. Elizabeth Bennet can be considered as an example and a
supporter of the writing. Disinherited of her father s property, Elizabeth is not
financially independent, and depends upon advantageous marriage for her future
survival. Although throughout the novel she asserts her independence that reflects
some of Wollstonecraft s opinions and beliefs. An example would be when she
rejected to be married with Mr. Collins even though she was in need of the
financial support, as he was the one who was to inherit the family estate. However
Miss Elizabeth Bennet s friend did the exact opposite and married Mr. Collins
because she was already a burden to her parents and was afraid that she would
never be asked to marry again. Elizabeth also stood up to Mr. Darcy when he was
making remarks about the country even though he was at a much higher social status
than she was, and she was reminded of that by her

Citing An Essay Mla

  • 1. Citing An Essay Mla Composing an essay on the intricacies of citing in MLA format may initially seem like a straightforward task, but delving into the nuances reveals a complexity that can be quite challenging. The Modern Language Association (MLA) style requires a meticulous approach to citation, demanding adherence to specific guidelines for citing various sources, including essays. Navigating through the intricacies of in-text citations, works cited pages, and the correct formatting of bibliographic entries requires a keen eye for detail and a thorough understanding of the MLA guidelines. One of the primary challenges lies in memorizing and applying the different citation formats for diverse sources such as books, articles, online resources, and essays within anthologies. Each type of source demands its own set of rules and conventions, making it crucial for the writer to maintain consistency throughout the essay. Additionally, grasping the nuanced rules for handling multiple authors, corporate authors, and editions can further complicate the process. Furthermore, the constant updates and revisions to the MLA guidelines add another layer of difficulty. Staying abreast of the latest changes and ensuring that the essay aligns with the most current MLA standards can be a time-consuming task. The meticulous attention to detail required in tracking down publication information, page numbers, and online URLs can be both mentally taxing and time-intensive. While some may find the challenge of mastering MLA citation rules intellectually stimulating, others may find it daunting. It demands not only a thorough understanding of the MLA guidelines but also a commitment to precision and accuracy. Striking the right balance between providing comprehensive citations and maintaining the flow of the essay adds an extra layer of complexity to the writing process. In conclusion, crafting an essay on the topic of citing an essay in MLA format demands a careful and detail-oriented approach. It requires a writer to navigate through a web of rules and conventions, staying updated on revisions, and maintaining consistency throughout the document. Despite the difficulties, a well-crafted essay that adheres to MLA guidelines demonstrates not only a mastery of citation but also a commitment to academic integrity. This perception is derived from journalists claims that corporations underpay their outsourced workers in order to maximize company profit. Additionally, another claim made by these journalists is that the wages received by these workers are below the necessary living wages needed in order to survive with dignity. Maitland refutes these claims by focusing on reports of labor conditions at Nike s Indonesian plant. The majority of these personal accounts present a more favorable perspective of corporations using international suppliers. The introduction of the essay presents what many critics believe to be a major moral conflict, which is that more companies are relying on sweatshops for cheaper labor. More specifically, companies are accused by critics of chasing cheap labor around the globe, failing to pay their workers living wages, using child labor, turning a blind eye to abuses of human rights, being complicit with repressive regimes in denying workers the right to join unions and failing to enforce minimum labor standards in the workplaces, and so on (553). Brands, such as Liz Claiborne and Kathie Lee Gifford, have faced criticism for their use of child laborers who typically endure long hours of work. In response to this public outcry, companies

In July 1998, the President of India asked for the advisory opinion of the Supreme Court on various areas of the judgment of 1993 including the issue of consultation. In October 1998, the Supreme Court in its advisory opinion confirmed the primacy of the Chief Justice s opinion over that of the President in appointing judges. The Court, however, observed that the sole, individual opinion of the Chief Justice of India does not constitute consultation within the meaning of Arts 217 and 222(1) of the Constitution. In appointing judges to the Supreme Court, the Chief Justice must make a recommendation in consultation with the four most senior puisne judges of the Supreme Court. Despite this, in order to maintain public confidence in the appointment system and to ensure judicial independence the commission system is perhaps a very effective mechanism for judicial appointment. In addition, it should be ensured that the commission uses a system which is transparent and open to public scrutiny. In this regard the composition and working system of the South African Judicial Service Commission may be an acceptable model. One participant was in a dorm in CU Boulder, CO. The other in a dorm in Western University (Gunnison), CO. Despite this far geographical separation, Facebook messenger served as our link and setting of communication. The only two participants involved in this discourse was Grace Welden, my best friend, and Myself (Taylor Salazar). Two friends with no audience. The particular purpose of the discourse was mainly to see how each of us were doing with college and how the day was going, however, the conversation escalated, in order of acts/ events ,after we began to talk about relationships into a discussion that s end goals were to come to an understanding behind my choice to leave a group chat that had all our mutual friends on it 1 month prior to this conversation; and to come to an understanding about why I feel the way I do about our mutual friends, as a means to reconcile in some way. The tone of this discussion quickly shifted from one of carefreeness and silliness while we were asking how each was doing, to more of a serious, considerate, respectful, and understanding tone as we discussed our feelings bout our mutual friendships. This kind of tone is normally expected in any discourse taking place between best friends; as are instrumentalities of: endearment, obscene language, slang, and second person pronouns enhancing

  • 7. Habit By Alain De Botton Summary In Habit Alain De Botton, the author mentions different ways one could travel without leaving the comfort of their home. The individual will come across the traveler s mindset and see everything in a new light; what was the ordinary will become wonderous and exciting. One s ordinary home will no longer be dull but quite entertaining. Developing the traveler s mindset, one will start reversing the process of habituation; seeing the world through the eyes of the new. Thinking counterfactually allowed De Maistre to see his own bedroom in a picturesque way. He first sees everything around him as just tools to get him by, but as he went on his journey, he came to realize the warmth that everything around him provided and learns to appreciate this complex piece of furniture (61) from a traveler s vantage point (64). De Maistre changed his thought process in order to view what is in front of him differently. He considered the varying ways the world could possibly be. As Gopnik says, Counterfactuals let us change the future. Because we can consider alternative ways the world might be, we can actually act on the world and intervene to turn it into one or the other possibilities (165). De Maistre had to intervene in order to make this possible future a reality, he was frustrated that many scenes that are deemed ordinary go unnoticed by the public due to its averageness (62). De Maistre took it upon himself to stop viewing the world as boring and instead decided to admire everything just by looking at what was in front of him. In doing so he viewed the world in alternative ways. Imagining something in another setting can cause different outcomes and possibilities to occur, it allows one to change the future to fit his/her own

First, your stomach starts to turn, then, your heart feels crushed and your mind moves as fast as lightning with only the thoughts of your own immoral actions keeping you awake. It is a cold feeling. An empty feeling. A dreadful feeling. In the novel Fifth Business by Robertson Davies, Dunstan had felt extreme guiltthroughout his whole life due to what had happened to Mrs. Dempster. The causes of habitat loss/destruction will be explored in regards to deforestation and conversion of land to agriculture while simultaneously elucidating on the effects which range from biotic interaction, reduced biodiversity, changes in habitat use, and the loss of ecosystem services. Biotic Interactions in Fragmented Habitats Deforestation is the permanent destruction or fragmentation of forests in order to make the land available for other uses which has caused disruption in habitats within tropical rainforests. It has led to fragmentation of habitats which influence birth and death related processes (Harrison and Bruna 1999). Habitat deterioration also imposes novel selection stresses on organisms, enlarging local extinction rates. Reduced movement among remnant patches for mammals lowers colonization rates, which further negatively affects demographic and genetic population parameters. Many studies have already shown that fragmentation in tropical rainforests presents grave problems for large trees, but not much data has been collected for early plant life stages. These stages are explored in a study done in Central Amazonia in which fragmentation has had an adverse effect on seedlings. It was found that the life form composition and structure of plant pool fragments have been shifting toward a species poor seedling community (Benitez Malvido and Martinez Ramos 2003). This has resulted from the loss of understory species diversity with high regard to

This is a form of expressing our inner feelings, helping others, or communicate with one another. During the 1590 s, an author by the name of William Shakespeare began writing plays to entertain not only himself, but his audiences as well. Like any other author, his plays came from inspirations, more specifically, Hamlet. His life views can be seen in this play and influenced how characters interacted with others or viewed life. Due to William Shakespeares terrible experiences with love, his characters in Hamlet and other works experience hardships with romantic affairs. At the age of eighteen years old, in November 1582, Shakespeare married Anne Hathaway who at the time was twenty six years old. Since his wife was expecting a child, they married rather hastily also know as a shot gun wedding (Potter, 10). By 1585, Shakespeare had a total of three children, which in turn did not help his finance issues. • 18. Environmental Waste And Its Effects On Carbon Emissions To get around the issue of these powerful companies being upset from the negative financial impact from the move to zero carbon, a shift must be made in governmental policy. Perhaps the solution may not be punishing companies for producing too much pollution, but rewarding companies for producing much less. In this way, the market for carbon emissions will eventually disappear and naturally profit seeking companies will aim to pursue activities, hunt for new strategies, and invest in infrastructure and equipment that result in lower carbon emissions. Beyond the simple reward proposition, however, greener policies often result in higher long term profitability for companies nonetheless. Environmental waste is often the best proxy for identifying and eliminating economic waste, meaning that many companies are currently increasing their profitability while simultaneously following a strategy in pursuance of zero carbon emissions. In fact, notoriously profit focused companies like Tesco and WalMart have announced their intentions to pursue environmental action not out of moral motivation, but in clear quests for greater profitability. The reason for their actions is the simple recognition that environmental and economic interests are often closely aligned. Nearly 50 separate studies from the Economist Intelligence Unit, Goldman Sachs, AT Kearney, Deloitte, MIT Sloan, Harvard and others show that companies that commit to environmentally responsible goals, particularly

It was James Busby, with the help of missionary Henry Williams and William Colenso, who then prepared a statement to give the northern Maori chiefs to sign after there were rumours that the United States or France were thinking of claiming New Zealand as their own. The statement s purpose was to recognise the independency and sovereignty of the New Zealand Maori tribes. The sketch statement that was signed was written in Maori, but another English translation was prepared as well. 2) I will be talking about James Busby who played a major role in making New Zealand s independency possible. After staying there for a couple of years, Busby moved with his family to New Zealand after presenting his viticulture journals that he published and were considered as New Zealand memoir. Another common stressor is physical setting: noise, lack of privacy, poor lighting, poor ventilation, poor temperature control, or inadequate sanitary facilities. Settings where there is organizational confusion or an overly authoritarian, laissez faire, or crisis centered managerial style are all psychologically stressful. (American Psychological Association, 2012) People are most productive when they are comfortable. If the office is too cold, too loud, unclean, etc. it could cause the employee to shift their focus off of the task they are doing and onto whatever it is that is causing their work environment to be less than comfortable. Finally, there are stressors in our personal lives that may have nothing to do with work but may spill over into our work lives. Things like divorce, birth of a child, death of a family member, and financial issues can cause stress in our personal lives. These stressors cause us to be distracted and we lose focus on what we are doing at work. This can cause accidents on the jobs or a decrease in productivity. Furthermore, as we let the stress of our personal lives spill over into our work lives we may become agitated, short tempered, and difficult to be around. Our attitude then begins to affect those working around us, which in turn causes stress in their lives. I am definitely guilty of letting the stress from my personal life affect my work. This change forced many information system professionals to alter their work, skills, and attitude which often can result in resistance (Chau, 1996). The most significant effect Chau found for acceptance of CASE was ease of use and perceived usefulness within the constructs of long term consequences. Since many of the information system professionals in the study had limited experience with CASE, the gap in experience impacted the ease of use and therefore acceptance of the CASE systems. Perceived usefulness within long term consequences helped the information system professionals accept CASE since using new technology can affect future career prospects. The CASE experience gained may help the individual in finding and obtaining new positions. Chau suggested that it would be beneficial for a company implementing CASE for the first time to

One second everything is happy, there are smiles all around and small bickering among the parents which takes their attention away from the road for only a second . All of a sudden the sounds of screeching and screaming fills the air. Crushed glass covers the ground while smoke rises from the engine of the car. As it begins to fade away, it becomes clear what the cause of the sudden crash is. Because even though there was only one child in there car, two are laying on the ground covered in scrapes and bruises. • 28. Transgender Prisoners And Transgender Inmates Essay I.Introduction Prisoners that are incarcerated go through many hardships during the course of their sentence. The mistreatment that inmates in prison encounter is unjustifiable in many cases. Amongst the inmates mistreated, transgender prisoners are challenged in many ways with abuse, misconduct, and discrimination. Transgender individuals are people who do not identify themselves with the genderthat was assigned at birth. The high risk profile of being a transgender inmate in prisonstrikes for deep concern and something needs to be done. II.Purpose of paper Prison personnel have not been doing much to secure the safety and well being of transgender inmates. Some even engage in the unruly behavior and are the dominant aspects to the problems that transgender inmates sustain. Many transgender inmates have attempted to seek justice, but their cases were thrown out. Consequently, it is imperative that people know the conditions and obstacles, in which transgender prisoners encounter while incarcerated. The problems and concerns need to be addressed in order to raise awareness, to help provide safety and security for transgender prisoners because they are humans too. This paper will raise awareness and provide insight on the challenges that transgender prisoners experience, ways to improve conditions, and what policies are already put into place. III.Background The ultimate reoccurring issue that revolves around transgender prisoners is that they are inappropriately

I am proud to send this letter of support for the nomination of Bertram Omar Leon for a national award, as in my opinion, he has devoted himself to sustain and selfless voluntary service. Bertram has been serving his community for over 30 years now in an unassuming, conscientious, methodically and appreciative manner. He also portrays the characteristics and qualities that are admired in our community. He goes out of her way to help people in need by organizing charity activities often at his own expense. Also, his willingness to take on difficult projects like assisting our own St Lucia Community Healthcare Ambulance Project to achieve its aims of kitting out the Fire Ambulances Service on the island with essential patient lifting chairs; the National Committee for St Lucia Hurricane Relief Appeal where he was at the helms, collecting essential items for distribution; his stewardship of the relief effort during the recent Storm disaster in St Lucia; his overall support for his local community and youth development are just some of his many contributions. I am also aware of his desire to promote UK Caribbean diaspora development via his many associations with the Caribbean diaspora communities. He has already successfully influenced the St Lucia government to adopt a Diaspora Policy, which was recently approved, to engage and ensure better inclusion of overseas national in the country s national development plans. Translation is everywhere around us without even realizing it. Translated texts are in people s life such as their homes, offices or supermarkets (MachГЎДЌovГЎ, 2013). Thus, it can be said that without translation, our life is full of difficulties, because of using a mobile phone, or turning on a washing machine or reading a book written by a foreign author. The topic associated with whether companies should prefer to choose bilinguals and how this kind of people could promote their companies has become the focus of social debates. From my perspective, I agree that the companies should hire more bilinguals because they usually have a strong cognitive ability, a better sense of belonging, and ability of cultural compatibility. Urban Stormwater Runoff And Its Effects On The Environment INTRODUCTION Urban stormwater runoff, considered as one of the most significant diffuse pollution sources in urban areas, can cause water quality degradation leading to environmental, ecological and health risks to humans and. Many pollutants, such as nutrients, oils, microbes, metals, solids, and organic contaminants, are transported through runoff from urban places to receiving water. These pollutants can be present in many different forms (e.g. dissolved and particulate bound forms), and differ in origin not only based on the pollutant type but also according to land use type. Literature reviews have stressed the possibility of evaluating water pollutant concentrations (mainly for the total suspended solid) using turbidity which can be very easily monitored continuously. Total suspended solids is one of the most important water quality indicator because the fine sediment is one of the most generally present contaminants found in urban stormwater, which also offers a medium for the build up, conveyance and storage of other pollutants including nutrients and metals (McCarthy et al., 2012). Nowdays, more and more care has been paid on uncertainties in water quantity and quality measurements. Earlier studies have contributed to practices for uncertainty estimates in data from hydrological and water quality measurements. It is recognized that uncertainty is inherent in data and thus should always be taken into account in order to make sensible interpretations and further applications including analysis of data and modeling. Summary Of The Main Conflict In The Son Of Neptune 1) The main conflict in The Son of Neptune is that Camp Jupiter, The Roman Demigod Training Camp, will be attacked on the day of the Feast of Fortuna, which happens to be in less than five days, and three demigods must travel north to Alaska, the land beyond the gods, to recover the legion s eagle and to free Thantos so that Camp Jupiter can have a fighting chance in the upcoming battle. There are many conflicts in this story. Another conflict is that Percy has a dilemma because his memories were stolen by Hera, and she plucked him up out of his life and switched his life with Jason Grace, a praetor of the legion, as part of her scheme to unite the Greeks and Romans to fight a greater enemy. Percy can t remember his name, where he is from but he does know that he has memories that could help Percy to help Camp Jupiter. Hazel, however has the opposite problem. She has too many memories of her past life before she came to Camp Jupiter. A third conflict is that the 5th cohort is now the worst cohort in the legion because of a doomed 1980 s expedition that caused the legion to lose their eagle a second time. That expedition had been led by the 5th cohort, so now they get the worst chores and jobs. For example during the war games, the 5th cohort usually gets thrown at the walls to soften up the defenses so that other cohorts can claim the victory. From the Broadbeach study, the investigation of offshore wave conditions erosion rates and sandbar morphodynamics, show that Broadbeach experienced some unusual experience during the study period. Given that the wave conditions on the Gold Coast were considerably less energetic, results suggest that Broadbeach s beach is significantly vulnerable and is more easily eroded than other beaches reported. Time series of offshore wave conditions combined with the evolution of the beach volume also suggests that the studied beach is more exposed to high erosion rates in the presences of NE to E swell. During the first and second extreme events mentioned in the study, the 150m wide Coolangatta Beach experienced the most intense erosion because waves did not reach the vegetated dune. The beach then recovered markedly, which can be explained by the presence of the sand bypassing system and sheltering from he SE high waves (Castelle et al., 2007). The evolution of measured beach volumes over the study period strongly suggests that the Gold Coast beaches are not able to withstand a powerful succession of extreme vents. The first high wave event strongly weakened the beaches, which did not recover before the second high wave event of a magnitude not unusual along the Gold Coast. However, in these two cases, the storms resulted in surprisingly high erosion rates. Data from a more in depth investigation of Broadbeach, using video imagery, suggest that outer bar decay, resulting in a lack of protection of the sub aerial beach, may explain this high erosion. The present results show that high energy easterly swells have a considerable destructive power on both northern and southern Gold Coast beaches. Even though no tropical cyclone directly crossed the Gold Coast, which would have resulted in much higher energy waves and a more severe storm surge, the erosion measured is the most substantial of the past 30 years. The Gold Coast beaches investigated lost between 34 and 52m3/m, which, in terms of beach nourishment, is an extremely large amount of sand. This suggests hat

Rhetorical Analysis Of Steel On April 10, 1962, the United States steel companies decided to raise the price of steel by 3.5 percent during one of the nation s most traumatic wars that affect the veterans still to this day: the Vietnam War. To put things in perspective, steel prices have effects on nearly everything, such as the cost of homes, the cost of appliances, and the cost of building infrastructures. President Kennedy had been calling for stable and affordable steel prices for a long time at this point in time; however, the steel companies still raised the price. The day after the increase in steel prices, President Kennedy held a news conference to call out the steel companies. In this news conference, President John F. Kennedydelivers a speech that employs several rhetorical devices, specifically repetition, ethos, and pathos in order to incite the audience to protest against the steel companies; which would, in turn, inflict pressure on the steel companies to lower the cost of steel. Throughout his speech, Kennedy utilizes a rhetorical device called repetition. Kennedy applies this strategy when he states, ...It would make it more difficult for American Goods to compete in foreign markets, more difficult to withstand competition from foreign imports and thus more difficult to improve our balance of payment positions... (Ln. 35 40) The evidence clearly represents repetition because the phrase more difficult repeats exactly three times. Repetition enables Kennedy to provoke urgency by repetition of the same phrase with regards to convincing the audience into exhorting the steel companies. Then, Kennedy further employs repetition when he expounds on the problems already existing in America, and now the steel companies add on to the stress by increasing steel prices. When he says, ...when we are confronted with grave crisis and Berlin in Southeast Asia, when we are devoting our energies to economic recovery and stability... (Ln. 6 9) Kennedy repeats the phrase when we are in order to allow Kennedy to persuade the audience to protest against the rise in steel prices so that the steel companies lower the price of steel.
