The circulatory system is made up of the heart, arteries, veins, capillaries, and blood. It has one main job: to transport oxygen-rich blood from the lungs to tissues and oxygen-depleted blood back to the lungs. There are three main circulatory processes that occur simultaneously: systemic circulation carries blood to the entire body, pulmonary circulation carries blood to the lungs, and coronary circulation provides the heart with its own blood supply. Problems can occur if the blood vessels are damaged or clogged, preventing oxygen from reaching tissues which can lead to conditions like heart attacks.
