This document provides a lesson plan for teaching 8th grade English students about short stories over the course of 5 days. On day 1, students will learn the 5 elements of a short story. On day 2, they will read the short story "The Lottery" by Shirley Jackson. Day 3 involves diagramming the plot. Day 4 focuses on identifying themes. Finally, on day 5, students will create a biopoem about a character. Various technologies like videos and PowerPoint will supplement the lessons, which aim to give students a 95% understanding of short stories.

•There are 25 students in my 8th grade English classroom
•14 girls and 11 boys
•Races: White, African American, Asian, and Latino
•50% of the students are average learners, 20% are below average, and 30% are above
average.
•Learner: Visual, Tactile

3. Main Objectives
The 8th grade English students will learn about the elements of a short story by
reading a short story, analyzing, diagramming, and completing a creative activity.
Students will identify the 5 elements of a short story, analyze the story, diagram the
plot, and analyze character and theme. Using a video, the text, and diagrams, the
students will recognize and show the elements of short stories. Students will have a
95% understanding about short stories by the end of a five day learning period.
