This document discusses photo choices for various parts of a teen pop magazine. For the front cover, photos were chosen that showed the singer looking happy and making a peace sign to attract readers. Small thumbnail photos were selected for advertisements that all had similar colors. For the contents page, photos were picked of an up-and-coming band, a singer songwriter, and a posing artist to add variety. The main double page spread photo featured a shocked expression to tease a secret interview and coordinated with the magazine's theme. Additional photos on that page showed the artist being fun and interesting in different poses.
A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

3. For The Front Cover (Main Image)
This is the photo that I have decided to
use as the main image on the front
cover. I have picked it as it is shows the
singer looking very happy and ‘smiley’.
This is something that is consistent
across many of the teen pop
magazines that I have looked at as it
gives the magazine a very positive and
energetic look. I will remove to
background and place the model onto
a different colour to match my original
plan. I will also crop the bottom of the
image so the models face is bigger and
the most prominent thing on the page.
4. For The Front Cover
This image will be placed down the left hand side of the front
cover. I will cut her out and place her on a different
background so the shadow around her hand is removed. I
have chosen this photo as she is making a ‘peace’ sign with
her hand which is something that many artists do in teen pop
magazines. It is something that may attract readers and young
teenagers will be able to relate to it.
I have chosen this photo to go next to the one seen
above. This artist is supposed to be advertising a
competition to win a signed album. I decided to pick this
photo as she is not just stood there holding the CD but is
pointing at it and looking very lively. This will make the
cover look exciting and will draw attention to the
competion.
5. For The Front Cover
These are the photos that I have decided to use as an
advertisement of the 6 free posters. They will be
featured in the footer at the bottom of the front cover.
They will be shown fairly small as I do not want them
to be the main thing on the front cover, but just small
thumbnails to show the reader what is inside. I have
picked these photos as they all contain similar colours
so will not clash on the page or stand out more than
the main sub headings and quotes. I will use a thin
black border around each photo so they do not blend
in with the pale pink background. I have taken all of
the photos myself, some are on plain backgrounds but
others are at concerts, in a different setting so my
cover does not look too plain.
6. For The Contents Page (Main Image)
This image will promote the article that
features on the double page spread about
the artist ‘Nicki’. I have picked this photo
as it shows the artist playing an electric
guitar, relating to teen pop. It also reminds
us that the magazine is a music magazine
not just a gossip magazine. The model is
laughing which suggests that the article
will be fun and will entice the readers.
7. For The Contents Page
These are the other photos that I have decided to use on my contents page. The first
image is of a boy band that has been taken at a concert. The image is supposed to
promote a ‘meet and greet’ with them as they are an up and coming band so for the
readers to see a photo of them performing would show them what they could win. The
second photo is of ‘Sammi’ writing songs and playing her guitar in her bedroom. I have
decided to chose this as I think it relates to what many teenagers may do and they can
see that her music is her own. The third and final image is of ‘Molly-Rose’. The image is
slightly different to the other two as she is just posing instead of doing something. This
gives the page some variety and stops the images from making the page look too
overcrowded.
8. For The Double Page Spread (Main
Image)
This is the photo that I have chosen to be the biggest on the page. It is the main image and
will draw the attention of the reader when they turn onto the page. The fact that she looks
shocked in the image could suggest that the interview will reveal a secret about ‘Nicki’ that
has not been heard anywhere before. The colours in the photo, the background and her
outfit also match the theme of the whole magazine which is why it would suit the page and is
a good reason to be used as the main image, I do not want it to clash with the rest of the
page.
9. For The Double Page Spread
Because of all the writing on the page I didn’t want the
pictures to have too much going on in them which is why
they all have pale pink backgrounds and the colour of the
outfits are all very similar. The model is doing something
different in every photo to show that she is fun and
interesting (this will make the reader want to read the
article). I have also chosen these images as they are the best
ones to make the artist look confident, as pop stars often
are.
