- Chest pain is the most common presenting symptom of acute myocardial infarction (AMI). The classic manifestation is described as heavy chest pressure, squeezing, or burning feeling that often radiates to the left shoulder, neck, or arm. - A study of 331 AMI patients in Pakistan found that the majority (83.98%) were between the ages of 41-70 years old and chest pain was the presenting complaint for 93.1% of patients. - Severe, prolonged precordial chest pain in males aged 41-70 years old, with pain radiation to the left shoulder, neck, or jaw is highly suggestive of AMI.
