Psychotherapy Strategies Drawn from Psychodynamic and...
The purpose of this paper is to analyze a video entitled Psychodynamic Interpersonal Counseling
Psychotherapy (Brooks Harris Oliveira Berry, 2004). The video features Dr. Jeff Brooks Harris and
Dr. Jill Oliveira Berry demonstrating sixteen skills drawn from psychodynamic and interpersonal
approaches to psychotherapy.
Essential Elements of Psychodynamic and Interpersonal Approaches to Psychotherapy
Psychoanalysis is a unique form of psychological treatment founded by Sigmund Freud and later
modified by his followers including Alfred Adler, Carl Jung, and Harry Stack Sullivan (Wedding
Corsini, 2013). Although there is no one psychoanalytic theory Wedding and Corsini (2013) tell us

This transference may represent Mia s feelings about her past relationship with her parents or her
current relationship with her friends, and/or her boyfriend. Dr. Brooks Harris encourages Mia to blame
him for her disappointment instead of blaming herself. By resolving her conflicts in the therapeutic
relationship, Mia may discover ways of resolving conflicts in a more healthy way outside of therapy.
Mia then describes a dream she had about leaving home for college. She also describes her sister who
is in her dream attempting to keep her from leaving. Dr. Brooks Harris uses dream interpretation to
suggest that the characters in the dream may represent different parts of Mia and her feelings about
leaving her boyfriend. For instance, Mia s sister may represent the part of Mia that doesn t want to
leave her boyfriend. Once Mia has decided to break up wither boyfriend, Dr. Brooks Harris
encourages her to build new relationships or strengthen those she already has. He does this because if
Mia has alternative relationships she is less likely to respond to changes in her other relationships with
anxiety and depression. The second session features Dr. Jill Oliveira Berry who is working with a
female client named Suzy who has recently broken up with her boyfriend. Suzy is at first unable to
identify what she wants to talk about. Dr. Oliveira Berry s encourages her to use free association to

Preludes
Preludes TS Eliot Relevant Background • Thomas Stearns [TS] Eliot was born in into a wealthy
family in St Louis, Missouri, America in 1888 • He became a British citizen at the age of 39 in 1927.
• His father was president of a brick making company. His mother wrote poetry and was once a
teacher and social volunteer. They were determined to educate Thomas well. • TS Eliot s awareness
of how differently some people lived inspired a lot of the descriptions found in ‘Preludes . •
Through the work of his mother and grandfather TS Eliot became aware of poverty and the boring
reality of peoples lives. • In 1917 he published ‘Preludes . ‘Preludes consists of four short poems,
numbered I, II, III and IV. • Some say that in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Or it may be the cab driver. Perhaps Eliot is observing a street prostitute, the ‘you of the poem, as she
stands on the pavement among the withered leaves. • It might be helpful to regard this poem, like the
others, as a video post card of this moment, six o clock on the winter s evening. Eliot used words as
his way of painting the picture. • The time is pinpointed at 6 o clock precisely. • Residents, living
probably in one roomed apartments, are cooking their evening meal all at the same time. They are
probably all workers living in flats. The word ‘passageways suggests the houses have been turned
into flats for rent. Even though it seems a run down part of town, the residents can afford steak. • By
linking the scene here with the ‘stale smells of beer and ‘dingy shades in furnished rooms of
‘Prelude II and the ‘thousand sordid images of ‘Prelude III , one could assume that the Preludes are
set in a red light district of a city. • The smell of steak is a signal that day is done and night is
beginning. Because of city smoke the day is described as smoky. Maybe the smoke occurs because
people are cooking at the same time. The tiredness of the workers is suggested by the word ‘burnt out
. Or is there a humorous suggestion that they over cook the steaks? • The weather is bad; a windy
shower beats on the buildings and on the horse outside. The cold rain evaporates as steam off the
horse s back. • It is early winter as the

Promoting Go Green Solutions in such an Extreme Manner is...
Many mediums of information have advertisements about pollution, recycling, global warming, and
other environmental topics that promote reducing electrical power, or using more recyclable materials,
with a big emphasis on going green. Long sentence. These advertisements promote rash decisions
from people without giving them time to think about the available solutions. The preservation of earth
is hugely important, but promoting these solutions in such an extreme manner is more harmful than
good. Christians are called to be good stewards of the earth, so their solutions should be thoughtful,
balanced, and avoid extremes. I looked over you first paragraph. Make sure that you read before you

Another point of interest that comes from the bible is that humanity has a limited control over nature.
Ecclesiastes 8 12 emphasizes this point; man has a limited ability to control the challenges of earth. It
is ultimately within God s control of the earth that it will continue to flourish and provide. However,
Christians certainly have a responsibility to care for the earth. Christians efforts are not invalidated in
working to keep the earth healthy for nature and the people of the earth, both present and future. The
Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it (Genesis
2:15). It is important for all Christians to try and be helpful in efforts to keep the environment healthy.
Accordingly, Christians should be encouraged to help in any way that they believe to be the most
beneficial to them, and the environment. While the validity of humanity s impact on global warming is
unclear, there are other visible ways that humans impact the environment. Examples of these include
dumping toxic waste, land fill, littering, deforestation, and the pollution of populated areas. Christians
should support the initiatives that they think are most important whether that be helping with cleanups,
education, recycling, research, or other helpful endeavors. In doing so, the negative impact on the
environment from our society and life

Supporting Ethical Behavior In The Workplace
Ethical behavior in the workplace is paramount to a successful organization. Commitment to
supporting ethical behavior in the workforce must be a top priority for all public service employees.
The ethical culture of the organization starts at the very top of the organization. The standards of the
agency are adhered to across the entire structure through fair and consistent ethical conduct as defined
by leadership. Effective leaders must demonstrate through their behavior that they believe what they
say. Those who pronounce that their supervisors and street level workers must adhere to the highest
ethical standards must themselves adhere to those same standards (Menzel, p. 70, 2016). Actions may
not be considered illegal, however if the action is contrary to organizations ... Show more content on

Retaliatory termination refers to firing an employee as revenge for an employee s protected activity.
Protected activities include such acts as refusing to participate in something illegal, reporting sexual
harassment or other illegal act, or seeking to join or form a labor union. If an employer fires an
employee for taking part in any of these activities, it is considered retaliatory termination, which is a
form of wrongful termination (Legal Dictionary, 2016). If Rob does fire Carolyn after the ruling is
decided in his favor, she should bring a lawsuit for wrongful termination. Wrongful termination, also
referred to as wrongful dismissal, or wrongful discharge, involves the termination of an employee
without just cause. While most people who have been fired from their jobs feel the dismissal was
without just cause, wrongful termination actually refers to dismissals for a narrow set of reasons. In
fact, wrongful termination refers to termination involving some type of discrimination, which violates
the employees civil rights (Legal Dictionary,

Skittles Vs M M s
Skittles and M M s have been an all time favorite for many years.. But if you could only have one or
the other which would you choose? If you have ever tasted M M s and or Skittles you know they have
completely opposite flavors. Skittles have a fruity flavor and M M s have a chocolate flavor. Some
prefer Skittles and some prefer M M s. It all depends on your own preference.Skittles and M M s are
both popular candies that share around the same colour and size but definitely do not share the same
flavor. Although Skittles and M M s share a similar appearance they do not share the same flavor.
When the M M candy was invented in the 1930s the only flavor available was plain chocolate. Now
the M M candy offers flavors like Peanut,Pretzel, Peanut ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The appearance of each candy is the biggest comparison the two candies share. When holding a Skittle
in one hand and a M M in the other you can easily tell the difference by seeing the white printed S and
M on each of the candies. When holding the candy the M M has a harder outside shell that makes it
hard to crush with your fingers. Skittles on the other hand can be easily smashed down to a smaller
size just by using two fingers. When eating Skittles and comparing to an M M you will notice that the
Skittle is much more chewier when consuming. When eating an M M they take less time to chew and
aren t a chewy/gummy substance like the Skittle. Each candy has the same rounded shape with the
hard shell. But what sets them apart is their flavor. An interesting bit of Skittles candy trivia is the fact
that it takes around eight hours to put the candy coating on the outside of the fruit center (Milton).
Which sure is a lot of time to coat a single Skittle. When holding the Skittle and M M you will notice
they have about the same texture. Since each candy is finished with a hard coated shell it leaves it with
a smooth casing that holds the goodness

What Is The Thesis Statement Of The Novel Fight Club
The goal of the present Mater thesis was to explore postmodern social criticism expressed in Chuck
Palahniuk s novel Fight Club through employment of simulacrum, simulation, and hyperreality in the
narrative. Therefore, two research questions that were set at the beginning of the research, were:
How are postmodern concepts of simulacrum, simulation, and hyperreality reflected in Chuck
Palahniuk s novel Fight Club ?
How is Palahniuk employing these notions in his postmodern novel to criticise modern society and to
reflect a discontent with it?
In the course of the research, the goal of the present thesis was achieved through careful interpretative

a whole. During the interpretative textual analysis it was concluded that in the novel different forms of
simulation from simulation of disease to pseudo terrorists attacks are used as the most effective means
by which characters are fighting against established social norms and value, against everything that

Christian Dream Interpretation Of A Christian
Christian Dream Interpretation
The spiritual interpretation of dreams is lost to many modern day Christians. However, this forgotten
language is available for those who seek God, especially in prayer. Those who seek will find and
answers sought in prayer may be revealed through dreams where the quiet voice of God is able to
reach one in a most intimate way. Dreams are one of the ways that Crist reveals himself to us and
touches our hearts on a very personal level.
Historically speaking, dreams have been the most prominent form of communication between the
creator and his people. Because of this, Satan has worked hard to convince people to ignore God s
message in the form of dreams and visions. Unfortunately, today very few Christians are

The Positives And Economic Impacts Of The Industrial...
Described as the rapid development of industry, characterized by the use of steam power, growth of
factories, mass production of manufactured goods, and most critically, by the introduction of
machinery into our daily lives; one can indisputably say that the period of the Industrial Revolution
was a time of substantial and drastic transformation. Representing major change from 1760 all the
way to now, it influenced everything from industrial manufacturing processes, to the daily lives of the
average citizens and their communities. However, with it came its impacts and although the industrial
revolution had a reasonable proportion of negative impacts of people s lifestyle, it also had a profusion
of positives impacts on their lifestyle which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This revolution introduced many notable drawbacks in certain people s lives which continue to pose
communal threats today, along with a diversity of assistance to the same people at that time. As
previously mentioned, child labour and horrific working conditions were arguably the biggest flaws of
this period. After analysing The Sadler Report , one can observe that increasing amounts of child labor
used to manufacture goods in factories with working conditions which dropped to such an extent as to
increasing their working hours to 16 hours a day with one forty minute break, demonstrated not only
the necessity of such labor, which eventually profits into the factories financial system, but the further
impact of the lives of these children who were desperate for minimalistics wages. Soon, the lives of
these children were dependant on these second rate conditions of these factories, and as they were
often exposed to hazardous chemicals and dangerous machinery, these conditions began to raise
important questions towards the end of the revolution. The only things which were helping these
workers was the natural outcomes of this period as everything was affordable because everything was

Allegory In The Pardoners Tale
Allegory can be defined as an extended metaphor, a story that seems ordinary but holds deeper
meanings within. Allegory can be found in many pieces of literature, such as the Canterbury tales, in
particularly two tales: the wife of bath and the pardoner s tale. Both tales are written by Geoffrey
Chaucer who uses allegory to convey a message. Chaucer indirectly discusses vices he apparently
despises, sins committed by humans that he opposes. They can also be injustices, oppressions to
certain groups of people at his time. Chaucer uses allegory in the wife of bath to mock women and to
show greed s consequences in the pardoners tale. The wife of bath tells the story of a knight who in
quest to answer the question what do women want most? . The ... Show more content on

When the three friends set out to avenge their friend they find gold, and it blinds them. It makes them
forget about their friend and the avenging they only care for the wealth and power this gold can give
them. Not only does the gold set them off track, it causes their death, in fact, greed is what causes their
death. Although the gold was a lot and it was plenty enough for each when they divide it, their greed
forced them to want more. Their desire for wealth forced to want to kill each other. In the end they all
end up dead, victims of their greed. Chaucer shows the reader that mans greed and desire for power
and wealth will have disastrous consequences, in this case death. The irony in the pardoners tale is that
the men set out to find Death and they indeed find it, but have they found Death, the person. Although
he is of unclear identity, the old man can be interpreted as Death, or his form on earth. A lot of
mystery and unanswered questions concern the old man, however, from the text the reader can hint
that he is some form of Death. The old man is the one who directed the men right to the gold and most
likely knew what the men s fait was. In general, the message Chaucer is trying to convey through his
story is that greed is a sin, and it causes horrible

Steroids In Professional Sports
Did you know in some cases PEDs, or Performance Enhancing Drugs, have been used on people 12
years or younger? People in sports have always wanted an edge and use PEDs, even at young ages.
Because of this the world of sports need to enforce anti doping rules more. One Reason the world of
sports need to enforce anti doping rules more is because the use of PEDs is a form of cheating. First of
all, EPO s, a type of PED, is injected into the bloodstream and increase the amount of red blood cells
in the body, which gives people more endurance. In one test, blood doping increased endurance by
44%, and steroids increased strength by 38%. A common story many people have heard is the
Jonathan Vaughters story. Jonathan Vaughters, a professional biker, prepared his whole life for the
highest level biking and didn t make it. He chose to dope to keep up with the other racers. In the early
2000 s everyone got away with doping including Vaughters, which is more reason to enforce anti
doping rules more. In the end, sport officials need to enforce the anti doping rules more or players will

First of all, PED s harm the reproductive system. This consists of shrunken testicles and less sperm.
Also they can give you liver tumors, abnormal enlargement of heart muscles, and heart disease. Plus a
few more reasons not to do them is men could have increased breast growth and aggressive mood
swings. Teens can have stunted growth, acne, stretch marks, and hair loss on the head. Woman can get
a deeper voice and facial hair. Not only does it harm your body, but it has consequences too. For
example, Lance Armstrong, a famous biker from the USA, admitted to blood doping and officials took
away his medals. Overall, this shows that PED s are harmful and have consequences which is why
people need to enforce the anti doping

The English System Of Criminal Law In The United States
Introduction and Historical Background
Every society in which we live, from the remote tribe to the most technologically advanced culture has
rules in which by which it operates. Most societies have written rules governing behaviour and a set of
punishment for those who break the rules. These can be referred to as the society s laws.
The law is defined as is defined as the body of rules of conduct created by the government and
enforced by government authority. Without any rules or behaviour, life in a group would be difficult, if
not impossible. In order to master criminal law, there must be an understanding of the context in
which criminal law exists.
The United States has a system of law derived from the English system of Common Law. As the
original English settlers arrived in the new world, they brought with them a well developed system of
justice. This English system of law was common to all persons and all areas in the English empire, so
it came to be referred to as the Common Law. Common Law is founded on the idea that if one set of
facts yields a decision in one case, the same set of facts should yield the decision in the next case. For
example if a judge in Manchester ruled that stealing a goat was a crime, a judge in London should rule
the same way. Under Common law, judges look to similar cases decided before and decide new cases
the same way. This helps make the legal system predictable and stable. Using previous judgements in
related cases to judge an ongoing

Thesis: As the popularity, and revenue continues to grow in college sports, the debate will be taken to
new heights about whether or not college athletes are being exploited, and if they should be
compensated monetarily.
I. (C)The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) defines amateurism as, The conviction

hefty amount of cash being invested in each athlete.
C. Obviously some colleges have higher budgets and higher amounts of athletes than others, so how
do you make sure you pay each athlete equally while still staying above the budget? You can t.
1. Trying to pay a football team alone could plunge a university underneath their budget with an
average of nearly 100 players per team.
2. On top of that, there are 28 more sports with athletes waiting to have their pockets filled with cash.
3. And finally, it takes away funding for other important academic areas of the college.
Transition: The budget just simply isn t there for a university of any size to reasonably pay each and
every athlete so finally I will explain some different ways an NCAA athlete could possibly make some
money.
IV. There are plenty of ways an athlete could make money, but it would require some self marketing
and a little help from the NCAA.
A. A player could seek out additional sponsorships and advertising deals like a professional athlete.
1.The athlete isn t technically making money off their playing ability they re making the money from

B. Opposers of this idea would say that equality plays a factor here as well.

Kate Spade s Trans Politics
Spade has described the critical Trans politics as a strategy that demands the inclusion and legal
recognition aimed at finding a possible transformation of current civil society, social equality and
logics of the state. He has considered it necessary to apply the different norms that are affecting the
human nature in the different institution. As indicated in the book, trans politics will arise from the
feminists, anti resist politics, leftists, gay, and lesbians. Social movements frequently engage in some
formal resistance operations thereby creating a different image from the normal running of the United
States. Education systems that are available in the textbooks and elementary schools give some few
lies about the US politics and laws. According to the basic background of the United States, it was
known to be the sexiest and racist in the world but in the present days, they have entirely changed due
to the changing of different laws. Spade has described the use of racial projects to show the
transformation that was experienced in the United States. Therefore, the social movement has enabled
the categorization of people through their gender, national origin, indignity, and race. According to
Spade, Resistance to the political theories has helped in the fight against the state violence that could
create central harms especially to women, people with disabilities, immigrants and native people. The
rise in the editorial sectors towards updating the available textbooks has

Self-Reliance
Sanaya Williams PH 221 Professor Bradley Final Paper Ralph Waldo Emerson Self Reliance Self
Reliance is considered one of Ralph Waldo Emerson s best known essays. The essay was first
published in 1841 in his collection, Essays: First Series. This essay contains the most thorough
statement of Emerson s emphasis on the need for individuals to avoid conformity and false
consistency, and instead follow their own instincts and ideas. This essay shows Emerson s ways for
making and translating classical philosophy and turning it to comprehensible language, and signifying
its relevance to everyday life. It is broken into three sections: the value of and barriers to self reliance,

Self reliance has the word self in it, so everything is about you how you realize and accept that you are
responsible for everything in your life and if you want something done, you must do it yourself.
Characteristics for being self reliant come from within, being self dependent, and self deprived.
Having the ability to listen to themselves and follow their own intuition. This Emerson essay is by far
my favorite because it is so realistic. I think many people can benefit from reading this, because it is
an essential in life to be self reliant. This essay is compelling because it opens your eyes to what self
reliance really is and how it relates to society. Emerson is stating for self realization, and how you do
not need acceptance from society to be yourself. He writes, What I must do, is all that concerns me,
not what the people think. Following that statement, he goes on saying to be as independent as
possible in our beliefs. Meaning if one is not independent is his/her own belief how would they know
who they are, if you are unknown to yourself, how could we be known to anyone else. Know yourself
and then let other know you. If they can accept you for who you are without trying to change you then
they are worthy of your affections and if they cannot accept you, leave them alone. Concluding Self
Reliance, Emerson leaves the readers with Nothing can bring you peace but

Child Labour In Ethiopia Essay
Introduction
Child labour is a very real problem in the world today, and although it is declining, progress is
happening at a slow and unequal pace. Child labour by the International Labour Organization is
defined as work that deprives children of their childhood, their potential and their dignity, and that is
harmful to physical and mental development (Diallo, Etienne, Mehran, 2013, p. 2). In the most
extreme forms of child labour it could account for child enslavement, separation from their families,
exposure to serious hazards and illnesses and being left to fend for themselves on the streets
(Dinopoulos Zhao, 2007). In order for certain types of work to be included as child labour depends on

To further my argument I will use Ethiopia as a case study to show how globalization has provided the
push for countries to acknowledge the problem of child labour and create actions to fix it. This paper
will be divided as follows: firstly I will provide a brief background on child labour in the world;
secondly I will provide the situation in Ethiopia; thirdly I will present the actions that the government
has placed to combat child labour in accordance with my argument; lastly, I will give my
recommendations regarding the implications of the actions of the Ethiopian government.
Child Labour in the World Today
In 2008, there were approximately 215 million child labourers, aged 5 17, in the world. According to
the International Labour Organization, the number of child labourers globally fell by 3% from the
years of 2004 2008 which is slower in comparison to the 2000 2004 period that had an 11% decrease
(Diallo, Etienne, Mehran, 2013).There has also been a 15% decrease in the number of girls in child
labour in contrast to boys who are having their work increase (United Nations, 2013). Among them,
115 million children were in hazardous work which includes: prostitution, agriculture, mining, militia,
construction, manufacturing, service industries, hotels, bars, and domestic service (Cigno, Rosati,
Guarcello, 2002). The terms hazard and risk are often used with this type of child

How Do Ancient Astronauts Have Altered Human Culture
There has been a big controversy for as long as anybody can remember whether ancient astronauts
have visited earth and altered the human culture and development or not. There are many theorists out
there that will tell you first hand that ancient astronauts do exist and will give you all the explanations
they have until they prove to you that they do exist. Most of them do know what they are talking
about. Ancient astronauts did come to earth a long, long time ago, they did help humans advance in
technology and did inspire the human culture because there is too much evidence of large and precise
structures being built that humans even in modern time would have trouble building, and also because
humans most likely did not know where to start for their culture, and ancient astronauts helped
humans build all of that, thus, ancient astronauts had to have existed with all the explanations to back
up this conspiracy, and ancient astronauts may not be here now, but they for sure were once here on
earth. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the political, economic, and logistical issues Grolsch had to adapt to, they also were adapting to
cultural differences. Their marketing campaigns would vary significantly from market to market.
While their ability to be nimble, change strategies, and adapt where necessary has been a benefit, it
has also been limiting in that Grolsch has struggled to build a consistent brand image and market
position in several of its key markets. For example, even though the UK accounted for 25% of Grolsch
s volume, they still only held 1.5% of the UK market. Further, operations have been impacted by the
consistent turnover of distributors in several important markets. Grolsch s adaptation strategy has kept
them nimble but has prevented any large scale and stability in certain countries outside the
Netherlands.
The right international strategy for Grolsch going forward is a transnational strategy, though there are
strong elements pushing this toward a global strategy. In reviewing strategy within the beer industry,
either generally or through frameworks (see exhibits), it appears the optimal path currently involves
both multi domestic elements and global

Changes of Weaponry and Warfare during the Middle Ages...
Changes of Weaponry and Warfare during the Middle Ages During the Middle Ages, or also known as
the Medieval Ages, change was a major part of that period. Europe was watching war become much
different. In the older times, a few thousands of troops were considered a large army. Nowadays,
nobody has ever seen such size of an army with such variety in weapons including guns, munitions,
and artillery that were all developed during that period. Besides, it was obvious that the face of
warfare was changing by the end of the fifteenth century. Two of the most significant developments
were the maintaining of a fair amount of troops on a permanent basis at the ready, and the rising need
of gunpowder weapons and munitions. In essence The Middle ... Show more content on

When there are weapons, there is also armor. Knights wore a chainmail called the hauberk and
according to Hilliam, the hauberk was extended to include iron sleeves, mittens, and a hood (19). In
addition, knights also needed better methods to protect a vulnerable area, the head. The great helm had
been introduced by the thirteenth century and it covered the head and the face with extra protection
(Hilliam 19). It wasn t too long until the great helm was replaced by the bascinet. It was similar to the
great helm although it was a more closely fitted 5 Tran helmet with rounded surfaces to deflect blows.
A removable or hinged visor was fitted to make breathing easier, and padding was riveted for
additional comfort (Hilliam 20). By the middle of the fourteenth century, the chainmail was basically
abandoned and plate armor was much more desired. It had glancing surfaces and it protected knights
from arrows far better than the mail (Hilliam 32). But over time, knights seek more extensive armor
and simultaneously, bigger horses were needed in order to carry the weight and bigger lances made
from tree trunks (Hilliam 17). However, blacksmiths kept placing their focus into creating more
developed plate armor and as plate armor did develop, Hilliam says that, it was less effective to slash
an opponent and so knights tried to thrust through chinks

Adelphia Communications Scandal Revealed Essay
ADELPHIA COMMUNICATIONS SCANDAL REVEALED
________________________________________
The Adelphia Communications Scandal Created Controversy. The Fraudster Got Sympathy From the
Judge and Received a Light Sentence for Stealing From Old Folks.
________________________________________
The Adelphia Communications scandal broke in 2002 when a footnote in a routine quarterly earnings
statement revealed that the Rigas family had borrowed more than $2 billion from the company. But
they didn t pay it back.
Warning bells started ringing because of the huge amount of cash involved and because of a reference
to a peculiar arrangement with Adelphia that made the family and the company responsible for each
other s debts.
Ultimately it was revealed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite its audacity, the Adelphia Communications scandal was never rated as a major scandal in U.S.
terms, despite the vast amount of wealth involved. The Adelphia Communications scandal broke after
the one at Enron, and it was also not as impressive as the WorldCom and Tyco financial scandals.
It did not have glamorous high flying players, merely an old Greek guy and his son. The only time the
Adelphia Communications scandal really captured public attention was when the image of John Rigas
being paraded in handcuffs when he was arrested became a symbol of the corporate frauds that cost
investors billions in savings.
President George W. Bush even made political capital out of the image, issuing a statement calling the
arrest a sign that the government would investigate, arrest and prosecute corporate executives who
break the law.
HEAR JOHN RIGAS SPEAK
What sort of guy is this John Rigas? The public never really got to meet the soft spoken, modest little
pop eyed 82 year old crook, but if they had watched the Charlie Rose Show which was broadcast just
before father and son reported for prison, they would have understood something really important: you
cannot judge from appearances.
THE CASE PROSECUTOR
The prosecutor in the case stated his view clearly after the verdict and sentence were pronounced. He
was accurate. It was a case of betrayal, he said, betrayal of CEO s who betrayed the shareholders.

Japanese Geisha Stereotypes
Definition The most common misconception of a female in the geisha occupation is that a geisha is a
prostitute or call girl (Chan, 2001). Geisha are entertainers, these women are vigorously trained in art,
music, and dancing. Geisha translated from Japanese to English means artist (The History and Culture
of Japanese Geisha, 2008). Becoming a true geisha is a prestigious honor to Japanese girls (The
History and Culture of Japanese Geisha, 2008). If a girl who is pursuing a career as a geisha starts
before she is 21, she is referred to as a maiko, meaning child dancer. A girl or woman can become a

The Dystopian Novel The Maze Runner
The Dystopian Novel The Maze Runner has a rather dark and cold theme to it, yet some find the story
to be lacking the naturalistic feel that some search for when they read. (We will be using theme by the
verb definition while describing The Maze Runner in this essay.) The Maze Runner has a very tranquil
feel to it and no matter what was happening it didn t feel real. Even as Thomas were being chased by
the Grievers, leaving his dear friend and leader Alby behind hung like some wet clothes out to dry,
some readers were not brought to the edge of one s seat like they expected to be. The way the
characters are written and the way they interact really does not show that they have lived and survived
together in the Glade like the author probably intended. Everyone is so separated, not a close bond in
sight. No one actually has a color of their own other than that of some dingy, off colored green they all
seem to share. All of the characters were pretty static. With the amount of hype everyone made this
book out to be some can only say that they are deeply disappointed at how droll this whole entire book
was.
One of the hardest things in writing is getting the sensations and scenes in your head onto paper good
enough for another person to read and see almost the same thing. It is a challenge, most authors can
attest to that being the case. The problem with The Maze Runner is that no matter how hard the author
tried some readers could not find oneself enraptured by this

Okay, so clearly this kid has no idea what MLA format is. I don t get it. Did he even look at the

paragraphs deep. I had made a deal with myself, no more than four hours of grading on the weekends.
So much for that. I looked across my desk at the pen holder/old mug and grabbed a new red pen. My

pushed the old chip bags and empty candy wrappers aside, searching for something to nibble on.
Yummy, a half eaten granola bar and mystery Tupperware. I took my chances with the granola bar,

After cramming the stale granola bar into my mouth I pulled the wrinkled pages of the essay back in

So why doesn t globalization create a flatter world? In Shanghai Rising Part 1 Saskia Sassen explains
that cross border economic processes like flows of capital, labor, goods, raw materials, and travelers
have been around for a long time, and that those processes predominantly have taken place between
nation states over the course of the last century. As a result of privatization, deregulation, the opening
up of national economies to foreign firms, and the growing participation of national economic actors
in global markets that has change quite drastically since the 1980s. These changes have led to a new
system in the world economy in which nation states are losing their importance relative to other
subnational special units; mostly cities and regions, global electronic markets, and free trade blocks.
Cities are now able to specialize in certain aspects of the economy, and for big corporations it often
makes economic sense to centralize all of their activities in one place anymore. Because of
technological advancement firms can now divide their activities over multiple places all over the
globe to where it strategically makes most sense. But Sassen also notes that the more a firm s activities
are dispersed over different cities and countries, the more complex these networks of different firms
and cities get, since

Reflection Music Education
The first element of this reflection and personal take on music education is determining what the
intrinsic value of music is. This is a difficult question to answer, for it seems as though music is a
subjective experience for each individual. This is true when discussing what types of music influence
us and what we say that we enjoy listening to. However, there is a deeper element to that discussion
that is often times left out, and that is a musical experience is an affective experience, and what I mean
by that is music creates certain emotional responses based on certain chord progressions, tambres,
orchestration, instrumentation, and innumerable other influences. Those influences determine how we
respond to music, and they are also the reason why the vast majority of people would say that music
creates an emotional/physiological response. That is the intrinsic value of music! Now that the first
element of music education has been explained, it becomes relevant to quantify and define what
determines a quality music education for an individual. It is not as simple as one ought to be exposed
to different kinds of music to listen to and enjoy for cultural diversity. That is a key element to quality
music education and pedagogy, but it is a little bit more involved than that. The first ... Show more

An Analysis Of Maya Angelou And Alice Walker
Maya Angelou and Alice Walker are two well known contemporary African American writers.
Although both women are from different generations they share some of the same qualities and
experiences. Both women used their past experiences of tragedy and hardship as a stepping stool for
growth by turning that pain into what now are famous stories and poems. For most writers, majority of
their work stem from their own experiences, and for both Alice and Maya a great deal of their works
regarded the dilemmas many African American people faced during that time such as prejudice and
discrimination.
They were each so passionate about equal rights for colored people that they got involved with the
civil rights movement. Maya Angelou participated in the movement in the 1960s by touring the
country with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr as he prepared for the Poor People s Campaign . Alice Walker
participated by writing a novel in 1976 called Meridian, which is known as the meditation on the
modern civil rights movement. Both women also had strong views about equality for African
American women, and soon became known as Feminist. They used their platform as writers to express
the challenges many black women faced, as well as give women like them a voice by promoting
gender equality.
Although Maya Angelou and Alice Walker share these similarities, there are still unique facts that
separate these writers apart. Marguerite Annie Johnson, also known as Maya Angelou, was born on

1.1.1 Schiff Base
The condensation product of primary amines with active carbonyl compounds have resulted in the
formation of Schiff base compound. This has been reported by Hugo Schiff in 1864. Schiff base
compound contain azomethine C≡N with a general formula RHC=N R where R and R are alkyl, aryl,
cyclo alkyl or heterocyclic groups which may be variously substituted. These compounds are also
known as anils, imines or azomethines (Mishra N. et al, 2013). Structurally, a Schiff base is a nitrogen
analogue of an aldehyde or ketone in which the carbonyl group (C=O) has been replaced by an imine
or azomethine group (Figure 1.1) (Abu Dief M.A et al, 2015).

The development of new antibacterial agents with novel and more efficient mechanisms of action is
definitely an urgent medical need. Schiff bases have been pointed to as promising antibacterial agents

stereochemical, electrochemical, structural and catalytic properties of Schiff base metal complexes,
their values has attracted significant attention and is also relevant for their application as tools for the
analysis of pharmacological constituents (Ejidike P.I et al, 2015).
Chigurupati S. (2015) reported that considering the increased incidences of severe opportunistic
bacterial infections in immunological deficient patients together with the development of resistance
among pathogenic gram positive and gram negative bacteria, there is a great need in finding new
compounds that may be effective against antibiotic resistant bacteria.

The Pros And Cons Of Women
Working outside of the home was rare for women at a time and was wrong if it was done. Women that
did work outside of the home were not taken seriously being seen as less intelligent than men and less
able to cope with stress (Harrington 16). They were physically and intellectually inferior so women
weren t usually allowed to face the outside world (Collins 4 5). Women were told if they worked, they
would be taking jobs away from men that needed to support their families, but in reality most women
who worked did so to support their families as well (Harrington 17 18). The unemployment rates
surpassed men s 4.7% to 2.8% in the 1960s (Ward 101). It was thought that women had no real
ambition to work (Harrington 16). Though it wasn t typical for a women to work, it was said the poor
and single women should work until they were married (Chafe 21). Even then it was a stretch for a
woman to work considering single women were seen as prey in the workplace (Nies 15). The usual
jobs women were stuck into were teachers, nurses, and secretaries (Kesselman 31). Even if qualified,
women couldn t work high level federal jobs (Nies 46). A lot of the time, women wouldn t even
receive credit for the jobs they did (Povich 78). Not only were women stuck in jobs they didn t enjoy,
but they were also paid less and were not provided with health or retirement benefits (Harrington 18).

authenticity in hip hop is that it has to do with being associated to the street or the urban ghetto. The
core of Hip Hop cultural activity , a site of originality, culture, perception, and cognizance (Alim
2004a: 390 91). Furthermore, The expression keepin it real is almost a repetition in Hip Hop insisting
individuals to be true to their roots, and not to front or make believe something they are not (Rickford
and Rickford 2000: 23). Hip Hop is apparently a multiracial and multicultural movement, yet its roots
and artistic strength and most of its well known rap artists, come primarily from urban African
American communities (Blake 1993). In 1999, it was dubbed the most important musical genre in
America by the New York Times (Strauss 1999: 28), and has debatably been one of the foremost youth
cultures in the United States since the early 1990s. Despite the multi ethnic nature of the founding
community of hip hop, young African American working class, urban males emerged as the art s
central representatives. However, the centrality of African Americans in articulations of authentic, hip
hop has roots that are more diasporic than popularity professed. Hip hop

Memory and how it affects Anton s character
Memory is defined as The faculty of the mind by which it retains the knowledge of previous thoughts,
impressions, or events. Memories are units of information that have impacted one s life and are stored
in the brain for years. In some cases, dramatic events may not let the brain register every single detail
about a situation. This is much like Anton s case of the winter of 1945 of the novel The Assault by
Harry Mulisch. The events of that winter affected him like no other would. The loss of his mother,
father and brother and the burning of his house left an impact on him but the events were so grave his
brain did not allow him to remember the smaller ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She becomes some sort of a mother figure to Anton. Although Anton felt as if he could remember
every word, every feeling and every scent that night in the cell, he drew a blank. Takes explains that
the woman in the cell with him was one of Ploeg s killers. This was one of those important moments
in your life that is so grave you can t allow yourself to remember. It may have been due to the fact that
Anton didn t remember, or didn t want to remember the details that remind him of the death of his
family members.
After he meets Takes he meets Karen Kortweg one of the more important characters in the plot. The
Kortweg s were the ones who took Fake Ploeg s body and dragged it in front of Anton s family s
house, the Steenwijk residence. When meeting Karen, she finally explains the reasoning behind why
she left the body in front of the Steenwijk s house and not any of the other two neighbour s houses.
Once she goes into detail about the families and her and her father s reasoning s Anton begins to
understand and remember the neighbourhood he grew up in and the events of that night.
It is amazing how memories can be jogged by a single person, object, sound or scent. The people
Anton has met and the places he revisits allow him to remember the events of his torturous past, which
permit him to determine his future. Without memories people would not be able to be happy and
reminisce on all the great moments

Theme Of Resistance In A Passage To India
Oppression represented in forced labor and land occupation leads to revolutionary culture movement.
The study is concerned with anti colonial form of resistance as it is tackles the idea of resistance from
an Indian culture perspective at the 20th Century.
Resistance literature generally tackles the idea of resisting different kinds of oppression, which can be
colonial, racial or gender oppression. That is why different ways of oppression have caused
revolutionary resistance, which can be portrayed better through writing rather than through armed
resistance. This was the early 1920s, during a really tumultuous period when the Indian independence
movement had begun to come to a head, this came right on the heels of Mahatma Gandhi s nonviolent
resistance movement that advocated for unity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The discussion between two Muslim men about the possibility of friendship with any English people
starts our familiarity with the characters of the book. A Passage to India is essentially a psychological
novel that centers round more or less the Aziz Fielding relationship. The relationship, though frank
and hearty at the initial stage, proved to be very much complex later, since the temperaments of the
two are basically different. Seemingly Fielding, as portrayed in the novel, is a believer in universalism
having a craving for friendship with human in general whether Aziz is a staunch disciple of Islam.
Moreover he rears the strongest form of nationalism in him that prevents the growth of universalism
even to some extent.
Fielding representing the ruler class to Dr. Aziz who has to suffer insult and harassment repeatedly in
spite of his efficiency as a doctor and a well mannered person cannot be expected to get the warmth of
friendship for long. It is also because Aziz believes that a long lasting friendship can be possible only
if the two are equal racially, socially and

Roosevelt, Jefferson, Washington, And Fdr Essay
When presenting the question of who deserves the title of best President of the United States, one
would not be surprised to find Lincoln, Jefferson, Washington, and FDR as the frontrunners. While
each of these presidents was undisputedly successful and groundbreaking in their own right, all fall
short to America s first modern president Theodore Roosevelt. Roosevelt, assuming office at the turn
of the century, redefined and reimagined the role of the president and the executive officialdom. By
expanding the powers of the presidency, Roosevelt was able to move the country forward in both the
international arena and on the home front. Roosevelt s vast success can greatly be attributed to his
charisma, character, and persuasion skills. He understood that the art of governing was truly the power
to persuade, and he mastered the trade. Roosevelt not only improved life domestically as he fought
against inequality and corrupt business practices, but he also achieved his goal of gaining influence
abroad, thus earning the United States a powerful platform on the global stage. Roosevelt s natural
leadership, charm, bravery, and compassion combined with his thorough understanding of the country
s needs, both for the individual and for the long term well being of the country, made him the most
successful president in United States history.
Roosevelt, taking office in 1901 after the assassination of President McKinley, inherited a unique
situation America was, for the first time,

Hydrogen as an Option for Fuel
With gas prices escalating and fossil fuels becoming limited, scientists have been researching an
alternative fuel source that will be more abundant and cost efficient. Issues with our current fuel
source include the pollution that is emitted in our air and water sources and the fact that fossil fuels are
becoming scarce. One alternative to gasoline is the use of hydrogen as a fuel source. With hydrogen as
a fuel source pollution will be in decline, it has become increasingly more abundant than fossil fuels
through extracting hydrogen from various sources, and is domestically produced. There are many pros
to using hydrogen as an alternative fuel source; namely, its abundance, its low pollution, and the fact
that it is being researched and extracted domestically. Hydrogen is one of the most abundant elements
on earth and can be found in water, hydrocarbons and other organic matter. Because of hydrogen
being so abundant scientists are able to extract it from a variety of sources, therefore, the problem with
hydrogen as a fuel source is how to exactly make hydrogen an efficient fuel source. Currently
hydrogen is extracted from natural gas, but this releases the greenhouse gas CO2 and uses up a limited
resource. This does not relieve our current issues with using up fossil fuels, just displaces them.
Recent research has suggested a means of how to resolve both of these problems. Zhang, a research
scientist from Virginia Tech, and his team have altered an enzyme that can

Teaching Nurses On Compassion Fatigue
While working in an emergency department (ED), nurses are expected to show compassion even when
they are exhausted? Over tired? Over worked? Fatigued? The purpose of this evidence based practice
(EBP) project was to educate ED nurses on compassion fatigue (CF) risk factors, causes, and
symptoms as well as assist them in its identification among each other and within themselves. Further,
the project sought to provide nurses with skills in order to prevent CF. A two hour workshop
consisting of a PowerPoint presentation was implemented in a busy emergency department on the
coast of NJ. Teaching nurses about compassion fatigue and ways in which to alleviate and prevent it
were stressed. Self regulation and self care practices were introduced using interactive activities. Over
the next four weeks, emails were sent reiterating self care and self regulatory techniques. A Pretest
posttest design used the Professional Quality of Life (ProQOL) measure to determine if burnout and
secondary traumatic stress (both components of CF) and compassion satisfaction improved from the
workshop. A comparative means analysis showed a decline in CF.
Keywords: Compassion fatigue, compassion satisfaction, self regulation, self care, Emergency
department nursing.
Compassion Fatigue and the ED Nurse: What it is and ways to alleviate it
When one thinks about nursing, caring, empathy, and compassion come to mind. There exists a link,

The purpose of this paper is to analyze a video entitled Psychodynamic Interpersonal Counseling Psychotherapy (Brooks Harris Oliveira Berry, 2004). The video features Dr. Jeff Brooks Harris and Dr. Jill Oliveira Berry demonstrating sixteen skills drawn from psychodynamic and interpersonal approaches to psychotherapy. Essential Elements of Psychodynamic and Interpersonal Approaches to Psychotherapy Psychoanalysis is a unique form of psychological treatment founded by Sigmund Freud and later modified by his followers including Alfred Adler, Carl Jung, and Harry Stack Sullivan (Wedding Corsini, 2013). Dr. Brooks Harris encourages Mia to blame him for her disappointment instead of blaming herself. By resolving her conflicts in the therapeutic relationship, Mia may discover ways of resolving conflicts in a more healthy way outside of therapy. Mia then describes a dream she had about leaving home for college. She also describes her sister who is in her dream attempting to keep her from leaving. Dr. Brooks Harris uses dream interpretation to suggest that the characters in the dream may represent different parts of Mia and her feelings about leaving her boyfriend. For instance, Mia s sister may represent the part of Mia that doesn t want to leave her boyfriend. Once Mia has decided to break up wither boyfriend, Dr. Brooks Harris encourages her to build new relationships or strengthen those she already has. He does this because if Mia has alternative relationships she is less likely to respond to changes in her other relationships with anxiety and depression. Preludes Preludes TS Eliot Relevant Background • Thomas Stearns [TS] Eliot was born in into a wealthy family in St Louis, Missouri, America in 1888 • He became a British citizen at the age of 39 in 1927. • His father was president of a brick making company. His mother wrote poetry and was once a teacher and social volunteer. They were determined to educate Thomas well. • TS Eliot s awareness of how differently some people lived inspired a lot of the descriptions found in ‘Preludes . • Through the work of his mother and grandfather TS Eliot became aware of poverty and the boring reality of peoples lives. • In 1917 he published ‘Preludes . ‘Preludes consists of four short poems, numbered I, II, III and IV. • Some say that in ... Eliot used words as his way of painting the picture. • The time is pinpointed at 6 o clock precisely. • Residents, living probably in one roomed apartments, are cooking their evening meal all at the same time. They are probably all workers living in flats. The word ‘passageways suggests the houses have been turned into flats for rent. Even though it seems a run down part of town, the residents can afford steak. • By linking the scene here with the ‘stale smells of beer and ‘dingy shades in furnished rooms of ‘Prelude II and the ‘thousand sordid images of ‘Prelude III , one could assume that the Preludes are set in a red light district of a city. • The smell of steak is a signal that day is done and night is beginning. Because of city smoke the day is described as smoky. Maybe the smoke occurs because people are cooking at the same time. The tiredness of the workers is suggested by the word ‘burnt out . Or is there a humorous suggestion that they over cook the steaks? • The weather is bad; a windy shower beats on the buildings and on the horse outside. Another point of interest that comes from the bible is that humanity has a limited control over nature. Ecclesiastes 8 12 emphasizes this point; man has a limited ability to control the challenges of earth. It is ultimately within God s control of the earth that it will continue to flourish and provide. However, Christians certainly have a responsibility to care for the earth. Christians efforts are not invalidated in working to keep the earth healthy for nature and the people of the earth, both present and future. The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it (Genesis 2:15). It is important for all Christians to try and be helpful in efforts to keep the environment healthy. Accordingly, Christians should be encouraged to help in any way that they believe to be the most beneficial to them, and the environment. While the validity of humanity s impact on global warming is unclear, there are other visible ways that humans impact the environment. Examples of these include dumping toxic waste, land fill, littering, deforestation, and the pollution of populated areas. Allegory can be found in many pieces of literature, such as the Canterbury tales, in particularly two tales: the wife of bath and the pardoner s tale. Both tales are written by Geoffrey Chaucer who uses allegory to convey a message. Chaucer indirectly discusses vices he apparently despises, sins committed by humans that he opposes. They can also be injustices, oppressions to certain groups of people at his time. Chaucer uses allegory in the wife of bath to mock women and to show greed s consequences in the pardoners tale. The English System Of Criminal Law In The United States Introduction and Historical Background Every society in which we live, from the remote tribe to the most technologically advanced culture has rules in which by which it operates. Most societies have written rules governing behaviour and a set of punishment for those who break the rules. These can be referred to as the society s laws. The law is defined as is defined as the body of rules of conduct created by the government and enforced by government authority. Without any rules or behaviour, life in a group would be difficult, if not impossible. In order to master criminal law, there must be an understanding of the context in which criminal law exists. The United States has a system of law derived from the English system of Common Law. As the original English settlers arrived in the new world, they brought with them a well developed system of justice. This English system of law was common to all persons and all areas in the English empire, so it came to be referred to as the Common Law. Common Law is founded on the idea that if one set of facts yields a decision in one case, the same set of facts should yield the decision in the next case. For example if a judge in Manchester ruled that stealing a goat was a crime, a judge in London should rule the same way. Under Common law, judges look to similar cases decided before and decide new cases the same way. This helps make the legal system predictable and stable. Emerson is stating for self realization, and how you do not need acceptance from society to be yourself. He writes, What I must do, is all that concerns me, not what the people think. Following that statement, he goes on saying to be as independent as possible in our beliefs. Besides the political, economic, and logistical issues Grolsch had to adapt to, they also were adapting to cultural differences. Their marketing campaigns would vary significantly from market to market. While their ability to be nimble, change strategies, and adapt where necessary has been a benefit, it has also been limiting in that Grolsch has struggled to build a consistent brand image and market position in several of its key markets. For example, even though the UK accounted for 25% of Grolsch s volume, they still only held 1.5% of the UK market. Changes of Weaponry and Warfare during the Middle Ages During the Middle Ages, or also known as the Medieval Ages, change was a major part of that period. Europe was watching war become much different. In the older times, a few thousands of troops were considered a large army. Nowadays, nobody has ever seen such size of an army with such variety in weapons including guns, munitions, and artillery that were all developed during that period. Besides, it was obvious that the face of warfare was changing by the end of the fifteenth century. Two of the most significant developments were the maintaining of a fair amount of troops on a permanent basis at the ready, and the rising need of gunpowder weapons and munitions. Knights wore a chainmail called the hauberk and according to Hilliam, the hauberk was extended to include iron sleeves, mittens, and a hood (19). In addition, knights also needed better methods to protect a vulnerable area, the head. The great helm had been introduced by the thirteenth century and it covered the head and the face with extra protection (Hilliam 19). It wasn t too long until the great helm was replaced by the bascinet. It was similar to the great helm although it was a more closely fitted 5 Tran helmet with rounded surfaces to deflect blows. A removable or hinged visor was fitted to make breathing easier, and padding was riveted for additional comfort (Hilliam 20). By the middle of the fourteenth century, the chainmail was basically abandoned and plate armor was much more desired. It had glancing surfaces and it protected knights from arrows far better than the mail (Hilliam 32). But over time, knights seek more extensive armor and simultaneously, bigger horses were needed in order to carry the weight and bigger lances made from tree trunks (Hilliam 17). However, blacksmiths kept placing their focus into creating more developed plate armor and as plate armor did develop, Hilliam says that, it was less effective to slash an opponent and so knights tried to thrust through chinks ... It did not have glamorous high flying players, merely an old Greek guy and his son. The Dystopian Novel The Maze Runner The Dystopian Novel The Maze Runner has a rather dark and cold theme to it, yet some find the story to be lacking the naturalistic feel that some search for when they read. (We will be using theme by the verb definition while describing The Maze Runner in this essay.) The Maze Runner has a very tranquil feel to it and no matter what was happening it didn t feel real. Even as Thomas were being chased by the Grievers, leaving his dear friend and leader Alby behind hung like some wet clothes out to dry, some readers were not brought to the edge of one s seat like they expected to be. The way the characters are written and the way they interact really does not show that they have lived and survived together in the Glade like the author probably intended. All of the characters were pretty static. With the amount of hype everyone made this book out to be some can only say that they are deeply disappointed at how droll this whole entire book was. One of the hardest things in writing is getting the sensations and scenes in your head onto paper good enough for another person to read and see almost the same thing. As a result of privatization, deregulation, the opening up of national economies to foreign firms, and the growing participation of national economic actors in global markets that has change quite drastically since the 1980s. These changes have led to a new system in the world economy in which nation states are losing their importance relative to other subnational special units; mostly cities and regions, global electronic markets, and free trade blocks. Cities are now able to specialize in certain aspects of the economy, and for big corporations it often makes economic sense to centralize all of their activities in one place anymore. Because of technological advancement firms can now divide their activities over multiple places all over the globe to where it strategically makes most sense. • 46. The Assault Stephanie Zito The Assault Memory and how it affects Anton s character Memory is defined as The faculty of the mind by which it retains the knowledge of previous thoughts, impressions, or events. Memories are units of information that have impacted one s life and are stored in the brain for years. In some cases, dramatic events may not let the brain register every single detail about a situation. This is much like Anton s case of the winter of 1945 of the novel The Assault by Harry Mulisch. The events of that winter affected him like no other would. The loss of his mother, father and brother and the burning of his house left an impact on him but the events were so grave his brain did not allow him to remember the smaller ... Although Anton felt as if he could remember every word, every feeling and every scent that night in the cell, he drew a blank. Takes explains that the woman in the cell with him was one of Ploeg s killers. This was one of those important moments in your life that is so grave you can t allow yourself to remember. It may have been due to the fact that Anton didn t remember, or didn t want to remember the details that remind him of the death of his family members. After he meets Takes he meets Karen Kortweg one of the more important characters in the plot. The Kortweg s were the ones who took Fake Ploeg s body and dragged it in front of Anton s family s house, the Steenwijk residence. When meeting Karen, she finally explains the reasoning behind why she left the body in front of the Steenwijk s house and not any of the other two neighbour s houses. Once she goes into detail about the families and her and her father s reasoning s Anton begins to understand and remember the neighbourhood he grew up in and the events of that night. It is amazing how memories can be jogged by a single person, object, sound or scent. The people Anton has met and the places he revisits allow him to remember the events of his torturous past, which permit him to determine his future. Without memories people would not be able to be happy and reminisce on all the great moments ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Resistance literature generally tackles the idea of resisting different kinds of oppression, which can be colonial, racial or gender oppression. A Passage to India is essentially a psychological novel that centers round more or less the Aziz Fielding relationship. The relationship, though frank and hearty at the initial stage, proved to be very much complex later, since the temperaments of the two are basically different. Seemingly Fielding, as portrayed in the novel, is a believer in universalism having a craving for friendship with human in general whether Aziz is a staunch disciple of Islam. Moreover he rears the strongest form of nationalism in him that prevents the growth of universalism even to some extent. Fielding representing the ruler class to Dr. Aziz who has to suffer insult and harassment repeatedly in spite of his efficiency as a doctor and a well mannered person cannot be expected to get the warmth of friendship for long. It is also because Aziz believes that a long lasting friendship can be possible only if the two are equal racially, socially and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Roosevelt, Jefferson, Washington, And Fdr Essay When presenting the question of who deserves the title of best President of the United States, one would not be surprised to find Lincoln, Jefferson, Washington, and FDR as the frontrunners. While each of these presidents was undisputedly successful and groundbreaking in their own right, all fall short to America s first modern president Theodore Roosevelt. Roosevelt, assuming office at the turn of the century, redefined and reimagined the role of the president and the executive officialdom. By expanding the powers of the presidency, Roosevelt was able to move the country forward in both the international arena and on the home front. Roosevelt s vast success can greatly be attributed to his charisma, character, and persuasion skills. He understood that the art of governing was truly the power to persuade, and he mastered the trade. Roosevelt not only improved life domestically as he fought against inequality and corrupt business practices, but he also achieved his goal of gaining influence abroad, thus earning the United States a powerful platform on the global stage. Roosevelt s natural leadership, charm, bravery, and compassion combined with his thorough understanding of the country s needs, both for the individual and for the long term well being of the country, made him the most successful president in United States history. Roosevelt, taking office in 1901 after the assassination of President McKinley, inherited a unique situation America was, for the first time, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. Hydrogen as an Option for Fuel With gas prices escalating and fossil fuels becoming limited, scientists have been researching an alternative fuel source that will be more abundant and cost efficient. Issues with our current fuel source include the pollution that is emitted in our air and water sources and the fact that fossil fuels are becoming scarce. One alternative to gasoline is the use of hydrogen as a fuel source. With hydrogen as a fuel source pollution will be in decline, it has become increasingly more abundant than fossil fuels through extracting hydrogen from various sources, and is domestically produced. There are many pros to using hydrogen as an alternative fuel source; namely, its abundance, its low pollution, and the fact that it is being researched and extracted domestically. Hydrogen is one of the most abundant elements on earth and can be found in water, hydrocarbons and other organic matter. Because of hydrogen being so abundant scientists are able to extract it from a variety of sources, therefore, the problem with hydrogen as a fuel source is how to exactly make hydrogen an efficient fuel source. Currently hydrogen is extracted from natural gas, but this releases the greenhouse gas CO2 and uses up a limited resource. This does not relieve our current issues with using up fossil fuels, just displaces them. Recent research has suggested a means of how to resolve both of these problems. Zhang, a research scientist from Virginia Tech, and his team have altered an enzyme that can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 50. Teaching Nurses On Compassion Fatigue While working in an emergency department (ED), nurses are expected to show compassion even when they are exhausted? Over tired? Over worked? Fatigued? The purpose of this evidence based practice (EBP) project was to educate ED nurses on compassion fatigue (CF) risk factors, causes, and symptoms as well as assist them in its identification among each other and within themselves. Further, the project sought to provide nurses with skills in order to prevent CF. A two hour workshop consisting of a PowerPoint presentation was implemented in a busy emergency department on the coast of NJ. Teaching nurses about compassion fatigue and ways in which to alleviate and prevent it were stressed. Self regulation and self care practices were introduced using interactive activities. Over the next four weeks, emails were sent reiterating self care and self regulatory techniques. A Pretest posttest design used the Professional Quality of Life (ProQOL) measure to determine if burnout and secondary traumatic stress (both components of CF) and compassion satisfaction improved from the workshop. A comparative means analysis showed a decline in CF. Keywords: Compassion fatigue, compassion satisfaction, self regulation, self care, Emergency department nursing.
