Plant cells contain distinctive organelles that allow them to perform photosynthesis. These include chloroplasts that use sunlight to synthesize food through photosynthesis, a large central vacuole that regulates pressure, and a cell wall containing cellulose. The nucleus contains the cell's genetic material and coordinates processes. Other organelles include mitochondria that generate energy, ribosomes that synthesize proteins, the endoplasmic reticulum which transports molecules, and the Golgi apparatus which alters and transports substances outside the cell.
