Source Quality Rating Document General Information about Sources.docxwilliame8
Source Quality Rating Document
General Information about Sources: The best sources of specialized information are not more than five years old, whereas sources of general information can be older. For example, general information about cancer that was written 20 years ago might still be accurate, whereas preferred treatments for lung cancer would be considered specialized information and should be more current since they change often. Primary sources present original research on a subject, whereas secondary sources often cite original research, statistics, or information developed by others. Secondary sources are entirely acceptable for this course and for most academic writing, but one measure of their quality is the primary source on which they are based. Sources that emphasize facts and statistics are often more reliable than those that simply provide opinion, even the opinion of an expert on the subject. There are exceptions to all of the rules stated above.
1. Provide the title of your source and the Internet link or other locating information:
2. Use the Walden Writing Center to locate proper APA citation format, and practice:
3. Rate your source on the following points with 1 being the lowest and 5 being the highest rating:
· __ How current is the source?
· ___ Does your source cite other sources as the basis for its claims? Yes If so, how many? __
· Of what quality do you judge the original sources to be?
· ___ Does your source provide statistics or other facts, or is it completely or primarily expert opinion?
NOTE: More than one rating of “3” or lower should provide the basis for concern about the quality of your source. In that case, you should consult your professor.
Case Study Overview
What Is a Case Study?
Are you more interested in abstract concepts that have little application to your own life
or real-life scenarios that could happen to you or to someone you know? The answer is
almost surely the latter, and that is why this course is built around case studies. Case
studies are relevant situations that might never happen to you but that you could easily
imagine happening to you. You work through a case study of some kind every day in
your work or family life, even if you don’t realize it. A case study is a group of related
factors that come together to form a problem or a circumstance that you are called on to
resolve. Often there are several choices to be considered and different possible
outcomes based on each of the choices.
You might have a case study situation at your job based on the fact that you have two
major projects due at the same time—both of equal importance to your company—and
there is simply not enough time for you to handle both of the projects with the high
degree of attention they need. You could work on both projects and hope for the best.
You could ask your boss to reassign one of the projects to another team member. You
could ask a colleague to help you. Each of thes.

Introduction
Child behavioral development is important to every parent, society and the nation at large. When children are brought up in a well-mannered way through instilling good behaviors in them, parents as well as the society finds peace and joy in the children. Nevertheless, due to the changing nature of the society, children brought up has greatly changed. [<--Sentence structure: As a reader, this sentence was hard for me to follow as not all points within the sentence were clear and or clearly connected. Example: Parents have been raising children differently in tandem with societal changes] Technology has impacted the behavior of children and continues to change their lives differently each day. [<--APA: Is this point supported by a source? Per APA, each sentence that provides information from a source, or needs to be supported by a source, should be cited. This is to ensure points are supported and accidental plagiarism is avoided] The availability and accessibility of technological gadgets such as cellphones, computers, television by children is increasing every day. This paper focuses on investigating on how television viewing has influenced behavioral development among children below 18 years of age. Research studies about child behaviors is greatly influenced by what they watch in television, online, movies and peers more than the influence and guidelines they get from their parents and close relatives. Strength Assessment under Knowledge
Definition: Knowledge: Score 84, Design — Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
An Opening Statement
I have possessed solid knowledge of design and learned it from courses taken at Cal Poly Pomona.
The Body Part of Assessment
I have taken a couple of engineering courses such as Engineering Technology and Electrical Engineering at Cal Poly Pomona. I learned about circuit models, diagrams, and drawings and also how to build the circuit and troubleshoot a problem. I have familiarized with some architectural and engineering programs and am able to understand technical documents such as schematics and datasheets. In those classes, I worked on group projects, which required me to apply the design knowledge and our team worked on design schematics and printed circuit board layouts from software. My design knowledge facilitates me in my career advancement toward an engineering manager position and helps me perform well in my occupation.

Weakness Assessment under Skills
Definition: Skills: Score 75, Deductive Reasoning — the ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.
An Opening Statement
Deductive reasoning would be a weakness for me when pursuing the engineering manager position.
The Body Part of Assessment
An instance of this flaw is when troubleshooting a circuit board to see why voltage is not present at a certain node. Among many possibilities, I ended up changing a couple of components which were working, wasting resources and time, until I found the defective one. After making same errors a couple of times, I realized the root of the problem is my weak ability to apply general rules to solve specific problems. I haven’t take classes to learn about better \deductive reasoning and had little opportunity to practice this skill. Sometimes, I work through the whole project without identifying some problems while other times, I may identify a problem, but not being able to solve it or give a clear explanation for it.
Concluding Remarks
This homework makes me realize that I need to take effective actions to address my weakness in order to pursue my stated career goal successfully.

Overt Stereotype Biases and Discrimination
in the Workplace: Why Haven’t We Fixed This by Now?

Abstract A substantial amount of research exists on identifying and combating stereotypes
and related biases that may improperly influence employment staffing decisions. Yet, evidence
of such biases continues to appear in the reported discrimination cases and poses ongoing
liability risks for employers. This paper examines various kinds of workplace stereotype
biases, including those related to gender, parenthood, use of family leave, age, disability,
and perceived disability, which may improperly influence performance evaluations or em-
ployment decisions based upon them. Although the behavioral science in this area has focused
largely on combating implicit biases, recent U.S. appellate court cases present direct evidence
of more overt biases whose effects should be readily identified and addressed. Possible
explanations for the persistence of such biases in the workplace and corresponding actions
to reduce or eliminate them are explored.
Keywords Overt bias . Stereotype discrimination
Consider the following quote from a law review article published a decade ago:
BAs employers become more aware of the statutory protections afforded members of
protected classes, smoking gun statements [reflecting direct evidence of illegal bias]
have become largely a remnant of the past^ (Lee 2005: 482).
Now consider the following excerpts from recent court cases adverse to the employer:
& A female engineer is terminated as part of a Reduction in Force (RIF) by a male supervisor
who stated, among other things, that he Bdidn’t want women around,^ that women Bwere
not worth a shit,^ and that his ex-wife, also an employee at the company, Bshould be at

CHAPTER 4 Notes
Families
I. IS CONFLICT BETWEEN TEENAGERS AND PARENTS INEVITABLE?
A. Contrary to stereotypes, adolescents and parents usually get along very well, share similar
values, and see eye-to-eye on a range of important issues. Unfortunately, parents who
believe in the stereotype that adolescents are difficult are more likely to have more
negative relationships with their adolescent—known as a self-fulfilling prophecy.
B. The Generation Gap: Fact and Fiction: Although most people believe there is a gap
between the generations (holding of different values between adolescents and adults), this
is not the case. When there are sharp differences in opinion, they tend to revolve around
matters of personal taste rather than fundamental values and attitudes.
C. What Do Adolescents and Parents Usually Fight About? Studies find that the most
common types of disagreements between parents and adolescents include things like
teenagers’ curfews, leisure-time activities, clothing, and the cleanliness of their rooms.
Additionally, conflict between teenagers and parents typically involves the different ways
that they define the same issues. For example, making sure that an adolescent’s bedroom
is tidy is often seen by parents as an area over which they have “jurisdiction.” Teenagers,
however, tend to see their rooms as their own private space, and decisions about neatness
are matters of personal choice. In other words, teenagers and their parents often clash
more over the definition of the issue (e.g., whether something is a matter of safety rather
than a matter of personal choice) than over the specific details. Researchers in many
countries have found similar results on this issue.
D. Rebels With a Cause: Contrary to stereotype, adolescents rarely rebel against their
parents just for the sake of rebelling. Adolescents are usually willing to accept their
parents’ rules when they agree that the issue is a moral one (such as cheating on a test) or
a safety-related one (such as drinking and driving), but they are less inclined to accept
their parents’ authority when they view the issue as personal. Adolescents who believe
that their parents are overcontrolling are more likely to become oppositional. As
adolescents age, they become more willing to lie to their parents.
II. FAMILY RELATIONSHIPS AT ADOLESCENCE
A. A Time of Reorganization and Change: Family systems’ theorists suggest that families
must adapt to the changing needs and capabilities of each of their members. Families
move through phases and stages in their development that make up a family life cycle.
Adolescence presents a challenge to most families. Because of biological, cognitive, and
social changes in the adolescent, the entire system—especially parents—must adjust with
resultant changes in family functions and needs.
B. The Adolescent’s Parents at Midlife: For many adults, midlife is a time of heightened

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202
The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

there are many advantages of using them in
modern life. Thanks to credit cards, people do not
have to carry cash around, nor do they have to
worry about unexpected emergency expenses. If
used responsibly, credit card can be of great help.
However, there are some traditional people who
believe you should not use credit cards. These
people refrain from using credit cards because of
two main reasons: dislike of technology and
irresponsible spending.
8. Past & Present
• Causes of divorce
In the past a great majority of people got
married at a fairly young age and never got
divorced in their entire life. However, the
number of people who are getting divorced
