Case Studies: An Exploration
Introduction What is the case study about? What is the organisation? What are the technology issues? Who are the principal actors?
Data Collection What types of data were collected? From which sources did they come? How was the data recorded?
Main Features What was the situation previously? What innovations have been introduced? What were the general outcomes of this innovation? Are there any legal, social or ethic issues associated with this innovation? Is there are chronological or other logic sequence for analysis?
The Organisation What is the nature of the organisation? What is its history? How is it structured? How has it changed as a result of innovation?
People (Ecology) Who are the principal actors in detail? What are their positions within the organisation? What are their technical skills? Does the target population for this innovation include more people?
Technology What technology was present? What software? What hardware? What technical level of expertise exists within the organization? What new technology has been introduced for this innovation? How has the new technology effected the organisation?
Your Section Create an additional section for yourself as a means of evaluating the case study, perhaps content analysis, investigator bias, validity threats, rival explanations, pattern matching, explanation building, time-series analysis, logic models, or linear-analytic structure.
Evaluation How successful has the innovation been? What new outcomes have been identified? What went well in this innovation? What did not go well in the innovation? What alternative approaches could have been taken?
