● Carl Rogers (1902-1987) was a humanistic psychologist.
● He supported the views of Maslow and added; an
environment with genuineness, acceptance and empathy
is needed for a person to grow.
● Rogers believed that a person reaches to self-
actualisation level when they achieve their goals, wishes
and desires at all stages of their life.
3. ● Roger believed that a person's behaviour is a factor motivated
by self-actualization tendencies to work and achieve the
highest level of their potential and achievement.
● Self-concept: Set of perceptions and beliefs about his or her
own self.
● Self-concept is influenced by: childhood experiences and
evaluation by others.
● A positive self-concept is associated with feeling good and
safe.
● If they have a negative self-concept they may feel unhappy with
who they are.

5. Unconditional positive regard
● Unconditional positive regard is a concept in psychology
introduced by Carl Rogers, a pioneer in client-centered therapy.
● Unconditional positive regard is where parents, significant
others (and the humanist therapist) accept and loves the
person for what he or she is, and refrain from any judgment or
criticism.
6. Conditional Positive Regard
● Conditional positive regard is a concept in psychology that refers
to the expression of acceptance and approval by others (often
parents or caregivers) only when an individual behaves in a
certain acceptable or approved way.
● This positive regard, love, or acceptance is conditionally based
on the individual’s behaviors, attitudes, or views aligning with
those expected or valued by the person giving the regard.
