Cari Thompson used a puzzle project in her 7th grade math class to help students learn about geometric shapes and formulas for calculating area and perimeter. Students viewed examples of geometric shapes in everyday objects, then designed and created their own puzzles out of basic shapes. They were assessed using a rubric and displayed their finished projects in the school hallway. In their reflections, students said they enjoyed the creative aspect of the project and gained a better understanding of geometric concepts and formulas.
