Session 9 Cost Allocations and Activity Based Costing

Absorption Costing
In absorption costing, all manufacturing costs, both fixed and variable, are assigned to units of
product. Units are said to fully absorb manufacturing costs. Most countries require some form of
absorption costing for both external financial reports and for tax reports. Also, most companies
across the world use absorption costing in their management reports. It is the most common
approach to product costing throughout the world. It is also known as Job Order Costing.

Activity Based Costing
In activity based costing (ABC), nonmanufacturing as well as manufacturing costs may be assigned
to products (on a cause and effect basis). Further, some manufacturing costs may be excluded from
product costs. An ABC system uses a number of overhead cost pools, each of which is allocated to
products and other defined cost objects using its own unique measure of activity. In contrast to
traditional absorption costing which is used mostly for external financial reporting, activity based
costing is particularly useful for internal and strategic decision making.
11
Activity Based Costing key features
An activity is defined as any event that causes the consumption of overhead resources. An activity
cost pool is a bucket that accumulates all costs related to a single activity measure. An activity
measure is an allocation base in an ABC system. It is also referred to as cost driver. §
Transaction drivers number of times an activity occurs § Duration drivers amount of time
required to perform an activity
12
Activity Based Costing key steps

activity cost pools (first stage

Social Media Ruining Our Society
Society is ruining the teenage mind with its social media pages, and all these apps, and
celebrities being perfect. Perfection cannot be met, perfection is what is on the inside. Society
has morphed teen girls into believing that perfection is everything, which is ruining their minds.
Also the stride for perfection is ruining teenager s self esteem and self value. Teen girls shouldn t
have to anything they aren t. This story is about a girl who made mistakes and those mistakes
ended her life. Amanda Todd was a young 15 year old girl from Canada, who couldn t take the

Arthur Birling s Outlook on Life Socially and In Business
In the play, Arthur Birling was one of the Predominant characters that portray an unsophisticated
and Pompous man, but on the other hand Mr. Birling was one of the wealthiest businessmen in the
area (Brumly) and was very involved in local politics. His success brings him hopes of achieving
Knighthood and thus making him closer socially to Lady Croft and Sir George.
....there s a far chance that I might find my way into the next Honours list. Just for a Knighthood of
course. (Act 1. p.8)
As the play progresses the description of Mr. Birling certainly grants him a threatening appearance
due to his size and stature.

It s about time you learnt to face a few responsibilities. That s something this public school and
Varsity life you ve had doesn t seem to teach you! (Act 1, p.16)
His self centred and Pompous attitude (Not to mention his finances) gives him a social attitude
worthy of praise and he is not hesitant to boast and remind others about it, (especially when it
comes to putting the Inspector in his place).
...I ought to warn you that he s an old friend (Chief Constable Colonel Roberts) and I see him fairy
frequently. We play gold together sometimes up at the West Brumley (Act 1, p.16).
Arthur Birling s out look on life socially is greatly contradictorily to what he truly desires; He
tries to impose an image to the other characters as a man who is in control of the events that occur
in the play. Mr. Birling in retrospect a snob who treats those who do not give him personal gain
(Meaning getting into the Honours list) like lesser people.
You! You don t seem to care about anything. But I care. I was almost certain for a knighthood in the
next honours List (Act 3, p.57)
His wealth combined with his position as Lord Mayor allows him to think that he has a sort of
superiority towards others. This

Following Your Dreams
What is the underlying reason as to why we do not fulfill our dreams? Maybe it is because we
lack the inner motivation and desire within ourselves; or we tend to blame other people for our
failures; or perhaps we are missing the resources that we desperately need. Sometimes it may be
because others discourage us. A dream is a personal desire to accomplish something that we want
to achieve, but we do not necessarily know where to begin or even have enough confidence within
ourselves to fulfill it. A specific factor that plays a major role in fulfilling our dreams can be the
issue of gender. Many people feel that women do not have the same opportunities that males are
given in specific fields. For example, the field of science deals with... Show more content on

They feel we need to be more realistic while following our dreams so that we do not set up
disappointment for our selves. Like Morgan and Emerson, we must try to believe and have hope
that one will pursue their dreams and go further. In other words, we must be supportive! If
people are not giving us support while we are making dreams and trying to follow through with
them, then we may give up. People would start to feel like their dreams were not important or
worthwhile. As a result, we tend to lack motivation to even start our goals and dreams. So, how
exactly do we figure out our dreams and then follow through with them no matter what anybody
else says? Perhaps we can look to those like McClintock that have already set and started fulfilling
their goals, and then do what works best for us.
In 1942, McClintock s profession of becoming a scientist was secured when she received a
haven at the Carnegie Institution of Washington at Cold Spring Harbor, where she has remained
ever since. Later, she was elected to the National Academy of Science and then became president
of the Genetics Society of America. In her forties, McClintock discovered genetic transportation.
Today she is a Nobel laureate and has received many other awards and prizes for her work (42).
Not only does McClintock prove to other scientists that she will not give up, but she sets a
nationwide/global example to those of us who do tend to quit

Theme, Themes In Stanley Yelnats Holes, By Louis Sachar
Have you ever been accused of doing something you certainly didn t do? Have you ever had that
feeling that no matter how good you are and how hard you try to not mess up things just turn out?
Have you ever felt as if you were accident prone or if it was just pure bad luck?Well that s what
Stanley Yelnats felt since that was what actually happened in the book Holesby Louis Sachar. There
is a lot to this book, such as themes, characters, and quite a few different locations. The main theme
of this story, Holes, is growing up because, in this book Stanley learns a lot; he has a lot of
ambition, and he shows a ton of responsibility for his own actions, but also for others as well,
whether it will get him into some trouble or not. Stanley learns... Show more content on

He takes this trait and uses it. He shows it often because in the book he learns that not all his
unlucky events are due to his no good dirty rotten pig stealing great great grandfather s curse.
Stanley shows responsibility for his own actions and at one point others actions. So, tell me
Caveman, said Mr.Sir. How did my sack of sunflower seeds get in your hole? I stole it from your
trunk, Stanley answered.
(Sachar, 56)
This quote was chosen because Stanley says that he took the seed but really he was just
covering to make friends. Another example is when he tries to find Zero and attempts to steal
Mr.Sir s truck. In the moment he gets caught he realized that it was his fault that he got caught
and not his no good dirty rotten pig stealing great great grandfather s curse that had been set on
the family. In conclusion this book represents the theme of growing up because the main
character shows three of the characterististics of the theme I chose. These include learning,
ambition, and responsibility. Stanley learns a ton while at Camp Green Lake. He also shows lots
of ambition and displays many forms of responsibility. This book follows a great storyline, as well
as one about how the camp used to be. The story also includes many characters with different
personalities and could display way more than just one main

Diary Of A Young Girl
Faith is seeing light with your heart when all your eyes see is darkness. In Anne Frank s journal,
she paints a vivid story as she and her family flee the Nazis and go into hiding to survive. As she
and her family are stuck in hiding for longer and longer, tensions between the group begin to
escalate. In The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank, she stays sane as long as she does because of
her faith in Godand that he will make things better.
One such instance happens in February of 1943, after Anne and her family have been in the Secret
Annexe for a while. As Anne slips into depression, she begins to find happiness in God. As she
says, The best remedy for those who are afraid, lonely, or unhappy is to go outside, somewhere
they can be with quite alone with the heavens, nature, and God, and When I looked outside right
into the depth of Nature and God, then I was happy, really happy. This is the first time she really

As their investigation brings them closer to the Secret Annexe, Anne says, God truly protected
us; just think of it the police at our secret cupboard, the light on right in front of it, and still we

says, Our weekly menu for supper consists of kidney beans, pea soup, potatoes with dumplings,
potato chalet, and, by the grace of God, occasionally turnip tots or rotten carrots, and then the
kidney beans once again. As you can see religion gets her through tough times throughout the book.
Throughout Anne s diary, you can see as she shifts from believing that everything is awful, to
believing that God will make things better for the Jews. Although Anne and her family are
ultimately discovered, boredom, depression, and anxiety are overcome by her faith. Religion
ultimately gets her through the worst of

Teaching Is No Small Feat, No Easy Measure
Those who know, do. Those that understand, teach, once said by Aristotle (Teaching). Teaching has
been an art that requires great skill and enormous understanding. Teaching is no small feat, no easy
measure. All teachers must work tirelessly in making sure their students succeed and learn far more
than just concepts in the classroom. Teachers inspire and encourage their students to go after what
they want to do in life. Through observation, I was able to learn about the best practices that
worked well in the classroom setting, helped the students learn best, and showed the benefits of

Through her individual given time to students that need it, Mrs. Graham helped better student
understanding and comprehension. When a student needed more time, she quietly told that they
were able to keep working, allowing them to keep working. This helped her students be able to
not worry about finishing with the class, yet also helped them understand the entirety of the
lessons at their own paces. With the age of technology, Mrs. Graham further her students interest
in English by putting into place with the other seventh grade English teachers dedicated time in
each class for students to be able to read books of their choosing. By allowing students to read
what they would like to read, this encourages them to want to read outside of just books for class
and allows them to explore what books they would like as well. These techniques each allowed
students understand and be guided towards what they needed to learn. Through the uses of relatable
connections, individual working, and distance from technology, the students in Mrs. Graham s
classes were able to benefit the most from the learning setting. These techniques allowed her
students to be able to learn, especially in times of confusion and distraction. During Miss Stein s
class on my third visit using the distance from technology and emphasizing the importance of
reading, several students energetically asked to be allowed to read

Franchise vs. Business Opportunity
To the untrained eye, franchise and business opportunity investments look pretty much the same.
Both invite you to purchase a package of goods and services and business concepts. Both offer you
the chance to capitalize on a business idea that has already proved to be successful. Both provide
some training, handholding and access to a valuable marketplace.
In reality, though, there are huge differences between the two concepts. While these fundamental
distinctions sometimes appear subtle, detecting and understanding them can help you protect
yourself when you take the plunge into your new business.
If there s one telltale difference between a franchise and a business opportunity, it s the role of a

Import And Local Production Of Cement Importation
Source: CMAN In spite of the local production, cement importation has been high over the years
because of the out dated manufacturing technology, high interest rates and exchange rate
fluctuations. These factors have contributed to the manufacturing overhead both in terms of the
high cost of raw materials and other inputs in the manufacturing and distribution process. Also, the
easy access and low cost of acquiring an import license in comparison with difficulty in import
license acquisition for manufacturing equipment spare parts also discouraged local manufacturing
(Mojekwu, Idowu, Sode, 2013). See table below for the import and local manufacturing trend over

The Sweetheart Of Song Tra Bong Analysis
Imagine what would happen if a soldier invited someone to a war zone to be with them. One of
the most notable chapters in Tim O Brien s book The Things They Carried is The Sweetheart of
Song Tra Bong which is about a soldier bringing his girlfriend to Vietnam. In this chapter, the
story is told by Rat Kiley who has a reputation for exaggeration and overstatement. The story starts
out with a few soldiers jokingly throwing around the idea of getting girls into their camp.
However, after thinking about it, one of them, named Mark Fossie, decides to fly in his girlfriend.
He eventually did and he and her hung out together and had a good time. His girlfriend, Mary Anne

One example is that he brings up the color green many times during this chapter. In most of these
color references he is referring to Vietnam. Eventually, her eyes seemed to shine in the dark not
blue, though, but a bright jungle green. What the author was trying to say was that Mary
became one with the cruel, unforgiving land. This occurred when her transformation was
complete and she had turned from a nice, young girl into a cold, killing machine. Secondly, to
help give the reader an image of how much she had changed, O Brien includes some really
disturbing imagery. Such as when Mark finds her in the Green Berets bunker, she was wearing a
necklace of human tongues. Elongated and narrow, like pieces of blackened leather, the
tongues were threaded along a length of copper wire, one overlapping the next, the tips curled
upward as if caught in a final shrill syllable. This is important because it gives the reader a vivid
details in order for them to make a clear mental image of how messed up this girl has become and
how the land/war has completely taken over who she was before she visited. Finally, her
transformation was symbolic of the one happening to not only the soldiers, but also to the families
and people of America. This war was changing people, making the soldiers into different people
and affecting the lives of the family members who are worried and/or grief

Essay On Deckard In David Desser s Blade Runner
Hard boiled detective fiction and film noir are extremely prevalent in the 1982 film Blade
Runner. In his article Blade Runner. Science Fiction and Transcendence, David Desser gives
multiple examples of elements of the hard boiled universe in Blade Runner: Deckard is an ex
cop, an ex blade runner, doubtless in part because of the corruption of the system as seen in
Captain Bryant, who calls replicants skin jobs (the equivalent of calling black people niggers),
and in Gaff, who dresses like a dandy. Most importantly, however, Deckard is alienated from his
fellow man, divorced that is, not only from his wife (who he tells us, thought of him as sushi cold
fish ), but from all of humanity. It is ironic and significant that when Deckard does finally fall in
love, does finally make a genuine emotional commitment, it is with a replicant a woman who is not
a human. In order to completely understand what makes this an element of the hard boiled universe,
one must understand what hard boiled even means. In the case of... Show more content on

Deckard seems like an ordinary retired person going through the similar issue of finding himself.

in a much different way than it does for us because we don t have replicants that have escaped
from Off World colonies that we have to track down and eliminate. We do, however, have tasks to
complete ourselves and some do turn out to have a soul searching event that changes the way you
feel about yourself and who you are. Without the dreary setting of Los Angeles, we wouldn t be able
to empathize with the characters in the film for having to endure such poor living conditions. Hard
boiled fiction and film noir are definitely necessary components that are artfully distributed

Happy Ending And Inevitable Ending
The ending of a story is extremely important due to the fact that it determines whether it is
commercial or literary fiction. There are three types of endings that are significant; happy, unhappy,
and indeterminate endings. Happy endings are when the protagonist solves their problems with
either themselves or someone else. The story would usually end with a happily ever after. An
unhappy ending is usually more about reality since in real life a happy ending is hard to find. An
unhappy ending usually talks about the defeat of humans and their mistakes that they might have
which would result in troublesome outcomes. Then the indeterminate endings come into play,
which doesn t have a clear result or conclusion. The ending of a story usually determines whether
the story is commercial or literary. A story with a happy ending will more than likely fall under
commercial since it s ending wouldn t happen in reality. Unhappy endings would fall under literary
seeing as the endings that it contains are something that would happen to people in real life.
Indeterminate endings can fall under either commercial or literary due to the fact that its conclusion
is unknown. However, it is not always the case where happy endings fall under commercial and
unhappy fall under literary fiction, but it is more often for happy endings being commercial and
unhappy endings to be literal. The story Civil Peaceby Chinua Achebewould fall under happy
ending, but the story is literary fiction on the

Bloomberg s Commitment to Public Health
Bloomberg s commitment to public health was certainly strong throughout his time as mayor of
New York. On the one hand, he understood the importance in addressing some of the largest
health issues of our time. On the other however, it seems that many of his policies were made
without proper scientific evidence and backing and were made based on his own personal
philosophies rather those of the people they affected. He himself said I just spent roughly $600
million of my own money to try to stop the scourge of tobacco {NYT}
Positive Aspects:
The Mayor took charge of the fight against numerous issues and implemented some of the strictest
public health legislation in the world. Some of the more notable examples were his stances on
smoking and obesity. Not only did Bloomberg make policies, which directly addressed the core
cause of the issues, but also he succeeded in levying the blame and burden of these policies upon
the industries that were profiteering at the cost of the public s health. Among the most significant
of these policies were the efforts to tax sugary drinks and ban others in a move that stated that the
sale of any cup or bottle of sweetened drink larger than 16 fluid ounces about the size of a
medium coffee, and smaller than a common soda bottle would be prohibited {NYT}. Evidently,
this policy was aimed at reducing the runaway obesity rates that were being experienced in New

Line matches the characters personalities and interests with their style. Alison is often seen
wearing very sophisticated, mature clothing. She tends to keep it interesting with prints, ruffles,
and a more retro style. The most unique style is worn by Aria. She is usually wearing funky and
edgy clothing with chunky heels, leather jackets, and statement jewelry. Line matched Spencer
s style with her personality very well by giving her a preppy and conservative look with blazers,
blouses, and cardigans. The girly girl out of the bunch could almost always be identified as
Hanna due to her abundance of feminine, bright, and glamorous fashion. Unlike any of the other
girls, Emily wore a sportier look. She was often dressed in t shirts, jeans, and sneakers. The day to
day clothing on Pretty Little Liars was always on point, but the most extravagant clothing was
worn for big events. Some of these events included prom, Halloween, balls, and fashion shows for
charity. Line outdid herself by putting the characters in upscale dresses, accessories, and shoes. The
fashion in Pretty Little Liars gave the show a special element that kept teenage girls engaged.
This series has a genre of suspense, drama, mystery, and romance. Pretty Little Liars was perfect
for teenage girls because they tend to gawk about televisions shows that contain even one of these

My Father Is A Second Generation
As anyone in America can relate, heritage and where we come from can construct our
personality, build our demeanor, and in some cases, determines who we are as people. It often
amazes me when I step foot into a class room, or go into a local bar, even walk down the street
and see how many different faces there are. In some aspect, when I look close enough, I can see
dead people. Not dead as in walking zombies, but a glimpse of the past ancestors that helped mold
these individuals into the people standing before me. With that in mind, when I look the mirror I
can see who came before me and through past stories I can feel the struggles that Italians felt as
they crossed the ocean to become Americans.
My father is a second generation Sicilian who grew up in East Lynn, and my mother is a second
generation Northern Italian, who grew up in West Lynn. One of the stories I often hear is how the
Italians and the Sicilians never really got along, and frequently butt heads. Naturally it was very
Romeo and Juliet like that they would end up together. When they become husband and wife my
mother had gone to the jewelers and had this pepper like charm created. This amulate is known as
the Italian Horn, or Cornicello . Although it is more known today, this charm was hard to come by
and not well known outside the Italian culture, and it helped bind the two families together as one.

Analysis Of The Creation Of Art ( Encyclopedia Brittanica...
Mimesis: The basic theoretical principle in the creation of art (Encyclopedia Brittanica). Mimesis
was a term and principle used by both Plato and Aristotle. According to Plato, art is an imitation of
and imitation when compared to the forms. What he means by this is that an art creation is an
imitation of something physical, which in itself is an imitation of a form. Aristotlebelieves artist
creations are an imitation of an action . This is interpreted as art is the imitation of the action of
life. Together they both agree that artistic creations are imitations of the truth or imitations of the
forms. Rather than seeing artistic creations as imitations, I argue that art is an individuals perception
of the forms, as well as it is the closest an individual can come to comprehending the forms. The
supporting reasons for this argument include proving that the sensible are in fact artworks in their
own way, that everyones perception of the forms are different, and that art is the closest way of
portraying our versions of the forms.
To begin, the Republic by Plato presents us with the
allegory of the cave. In the cave there are people who can only see shadows cast on the wall. The
shadows are cast by puppeteers (the divine) and the puppets that represent the forms or the real
objects. To the prisoners or everyday man, these shadows are interpretations or perceptions of the
real. Without the ability to see the true objects, the prisoners or everyday man can only understand

Our first experience of this old English term came about not as secrets in a person s past but in a

families and diverse activities. Among those homes was an old three story English style rooming
house in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan that was owned by the Anglican Theological College of
Emmanuel and St. Chad. Shirley and I had a flat on the third floor with four single girls living
above us and a single eligible theological professor/Priest below us! Not only were the upper
floors busy but we also had a presence living in the basement that from time to time would enter
into our community life. Special care was taken by all of us to ensure we did not have a
prankster amongst us so we made sure to ascertain that the occurrences were confirmed by more
than one person and that they had happened more than one time to different people. Often we
would hear the horn on my bicycle give a blast at different times of the day. Something or
someone had to squeeze the rubber bulb to force the air through the reed on that horn! During a
small dinner party hosted by the professor, the pictures on the wall shifted on their nails, and there
was no vibration on the floors from music, dancing, or any kind of enthusiastic activity! More than

The Holocaust is often considered one of the darkest and most heinous periods in modern history,
however there are numerous accounts of heroism and selfless charity to emerge from the ashes.
Despite the Nazi regime s stranglehold on European affairs during a large part of the second
world war, their radical and racially charged agenda was not universally accepted amongst German
citizens and Nazi officials. The fear of strict punishment at the hands of the SS squashed popular
outcry over the atrocities, but it did not stop the heroic acts of a few compassionate and unassuming

Racism in America
Racism in America

Abstract
The purpose of this research is to show the effects of racism in America. Racism is defined as one
group assumes superiority over other groups that develop attitudes of arrogance and ignorance.
Despite many laws and legislation attempts to eliminate the evils of racism, the problem focuses on
the cultural differences of race, color and biological supremacy. Racism comes in the form of ethnic
cleansing, hate groups, discrimination and restraint of equal rights. Over the last decade the media
has become one of the major contributors of racism in the 21st century. The media have displayed

Racism has a long continuous history in America that began from slavery to the passage of the
Civil Rights Act (1964).There are many forms of racism: open, violent and covert. Open racism
focuses on individual freedom to express racial thoughts and speech. Open racism exist in
America because of an individual s freedom of speech derived from the first amendment (Deo,
2012). Societal use of open racism in America is declining and found unconstitutional and
politically incorrect. Violent racism is a form of racism that the use of violence is exhibited
through imposing fear from racial groups to express their agendas. Covert racism is the most
common type of racism used today. The covert racist is unaware that they are racist. Covert racists
uses this tactic to intimidate groups or cultures that are inferior to their culture. Individual racism
is a form of racism that has one person discriminates against another. Institutional racism is a form
of racism when institutions discriminate against a race for unfair and biased reasons, the same
reason the individual racist would do (racial profiling). Lastly racism is in the form of people
displaying attitudes about other races and cultures. Since post 9 / 11 attitudes toward Arabs has

Did you know the history of clothing and textiles traces back to the availability of textiles and other

upon the discoveries with clothing, there has been a lot of developments with the relationship in
clothing and its history.
The wearing of clothing is exclusively a human characteristic and a feature of human societies. It is
not known when humans began wearing clothes. Anthropologists believe that animal skins as well

figurines wore belts, hung low on the hips and sometimes string skirts.
The first actual textile was probably felt. Examples of nail binding, another early textile method,

Physics Of Boiling Point Elevation
Introduction
The experiments studied here were used to help shed light on the importance of molality.
Understanding how molality impacts colligative properties is important to understanding solutions.
Concepts like entropy can only be seen through experimentations, and visually seeing entropy on a
graph helps make the concept easier. The data collected from other groups and data found by this
group are all meant to help find correlations between molality and the colligative property of boiling
points. Studying boiling point elevation is a key concept that can only be truly understood through
hands on experimentation.
Materials
The materials used for the experiment include: hotplate, temperature probe, data collection
interface, ring stand, two utility clamps, paper towels, mass scale, cupcake paper, scoopula,
graduated cylinder, stirring rod, beaker, 2.415g of table salt (NaCl,) 7.46g of glucose (C6H12O6,)
400.00ml of distilled water (H2O)
Procedure
The hot plate was set on the base of the ring stand with both utility clamps attached to the ring
stand. They were attached so that one was hanging over the hot plate, while the other clamp faced
directly away from the hot plate. After the initial setup was done, a graduated cylinder was used to
measure out 100.00ml of distilled water into a beaker. For the three non control tests, glucose and
table salt were added to the distilled water at this step. Before placing the beaker of solution onto
the hotplate, 1.61 grams of

Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity, said
Martin Luther King, Jr, epitomizing that ignorance is the most fatal flaw any person could have.
Similarly to this quote, the tragedy of Oedipus the King by Greek playwright Sophocles explains
the troubling effects of ignorance as Oedipus, the king, is shown to be truly ignorant to the identity
of the murderer inside his kingdom: himself. Oedipus undergoes a path of wisdom through his
ignorance, which is shown to redeem his tragic character. Although many differing interpretations

Oedipus desire to uncover the truth and his want to know the identity of the murderer is halted
when the identity of the murderer, himself, contradicts his desire to exile the murderer. Wanting
proof that he is fact the murderer, Oedipus asks a shepherd who is said to have witnessed the
murder to enlighten him on what had occurred. The shepherd explains to Oedipus what had
occurred, which matches what Teiresias had explained to him. The shepherd also tells Oedipus
that he had given away the baby of the queen and late king to the leaders of Corinth, the
supposed parents of Oedipus. The shepherd s input shows the start of Oedipus redemption, as
Oedipus ignorance begins to be stripped away as he sees the truth in the reality. Oedipus is seen
saying, Light of sun, let me look upon you no more after today! when he replies to the shepherd s
statements. Oedipus revelation to truth is expressed, and he understands that he doesn t deserve
the sight he was given because of the sins he has committed. After Oedipus realization, his mother

Models of retail competition
This chapter examines the effects of competition on a retailer s performance. As noted in Chapter
1, retailing in the United States was once a growth industry that was able to increase profits solely
on the basis of an increasing population base. Today s slower population growth rates have turned
retailing into a business where successful regional and national retailers can grow only by taking
sales away from competitors. However, retail competition at the local level is more complex.
Depending upon the economic base of the regional economy, it is possible for an area s
population and disposable income to grow even while the country s is slowing. For example,
Phoenix and Las Vegas are like many Sunbelt... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Further, a new private school in town brought in a number of residents with more sophisticated
tastes than those of the typical Wal Mart customer. By catering to these underserved customer
segments, the variety store has thrived.
A small retailer competition is not just the large discount stores in the area. This retailer would be
wise to check the local drugstore, perhaps a Walgreens, that stocks small appliances; the internet
for competitive pricing information and 24/7 shopping convenience; and category killers that
might offer a deeper selection and a better level of service than the discounters. For example, Best
Buy lured female customers away from traditional discounters and small specialty electronics
stores by providing merchandise selections tailored to each local market area and by training its
sales associates not to talk down to them, as had often happened in other electronics stores.
It is important to remember that no retailer, however clever, can design a strategy that will totally
insulate it from competition. This is true even if the retailer has done an excellent job in developing
and following its mission statement, setting its goals and objectives, and conducting its SWOT
analysis; customer still have shopping choice. The rapid growth of discount department stores,
convenience stores, and catalog and internet retails attest to this fact. Some merchandising
innovations can be easily copied and

Match Point Aristotle
Recipe for Tragedy Aristotle, who was one of the greatest philosophers of Ancient Greece,
analysed the different elements of tragedies and the ideal form for tragic plays. He also came up
with the definition, which stated that a tragic play would need to have six elements to be
successful. Aristotle felt that the plot and characters are the most important elements in a tragic
play. However, thought, diction, spectacle and melody must also be done well to make a
successful play. Match Point is an example of a modern tragic film that follows Aristotle s
elements. The plot had peripety, which is the change from one state to another at the beginning to
the exact opposite at the end, and unity of plot. The characters were believable and consistent and

2016 This essay will explore an understanding into stilt houses built over water on the island of
Borneo of Southeast Asia before the nineteenth century. I chose to specifically investigate the value
of stilt houses in Borneo because as a singular building how it became the container of a life for
various the tribes. Following the migratory patterns of these tribes into Borneo and across it, I hope
to unravel how these tribes fashion their environment but more importantly the characteristics of
the stilt house and its value to its community. The map below shows where Borneo is in relation to
the Southeast Asia area.
Tim Ingold mentions in an essay that, Human beings are makers of the world . This is evident
through my research in a way that we understand how communities travel across the seas around
Borneo to take on a new way of living within their newly formed tribes. These tribes make do with
what they have in a completely new environment. As more and more communities spread across the
coasts, setting up their new life, so did the distinction between the various tribes.

The Seven Gothic Tales By Karen Blixen Christensen
The Seven Gothic Tales is a collection of short stories that was published in 1934 by the author
Karen Blixen Christensen under her pseudonym Isak Dinesen. It is a collection of seven stories
that is included among them The Deluge of Norderney, The Supper at Elsinore, The Monkey and
The Old Chevalier among others. The first two stories listed above are the most well known of the
seven talesand amongst the authors most famous works. The book has been described as a modern
classic that contains seven stories which combine the psychological insight that is characteristic of
the short stories in the modern age with the gothic style writing that are characteristic of the tales in
the nineteenth century. Karen was a well known Danish author who rose to prominence with the
publishing of this collection of short stories as well as her most famous piece of work, the memoir
named Out of Africa.
Many of the subplots that are contained in this book deal with the issue of the aristocracy in Europe
whose influence at the time was waning during the mid nineteenth century. The struggle for the
aristocracy, concerned with the passing down their heredity through the generations, was concern
that their breeding lines had been illegitimated; this is a major plot in the short tale The Deluge of

As a leader, I need to inspire those around me to succeed and reach for the impossible. It is my
job to form the effective team because a leader is only as good as those around him. As I
mentioned above Leadership to me is living and breathing theory idea. If you take a look at the
different theories, from Trait, Behavioral, Situational, New Leadership and Emerging each has
built off of each other (Northouse, 2014). As our society continues to develop and people become
educated our understanding will increase not because we are growing but because more people are
questioning and are asking why they are being told what to do.
An example of what typifies leadership to me is a contrary to what a leader should do. As the
elected secretary in my masonic fraternity it is my job to see the lodge business in conducted in
accordance to all fraternal rules and governmental laws. Our organizational hierarchy is as
follows; Worshipful Master, Senior Warden, Junior Warden, and Secretary. In a business
organization that would correlate as follows, President, Senior Vice President, Vice President,
and Chief Operating Officer. That being said, during my 5 years in office I have had five different
leaders and five different archetypes that really define how I look at leadership (George, 2007). The
worst by far was the rationalizer (George, 2007). As I mentioned before in one of my weekly posts

The Economic Economy Of Australia
Every year, the statistical organization of each country will count the gross domestic product
(GDP) of the country, and calculate the growth rate compared with other countries. In general, GDP
growth has become an important manifestation of the country s comprehensive national strength. In
economics, GDP is an important index of a country s economic health. It is important because each
component of GDP will represent in daily life. In Australia, GDP growth dependent on its service
sector, manufacturing and agriculture, in which the service sector accounted for the highest
proportion of total GDP. Moreover, Australia is a country which has rich resources, and this become
another economic growth point that different from other countries.... Show more content on

For different purpose, the different GDP frames will be used. Real GDP is the value of final goods
and services produced in a given year when valued at the prices of a reference base year;
Nominal GDP is the value of final goods and services produced in a given year when valued at the
prices of that year. The maximum level of real GDP that can be produced while avoiding shortages
of labour, capital, land and entrepreneurial ability that would bring rising inflation is called potential
GDP (McTaggart, Findlay Parkin, 2012). In this essay, GDP stands for real GDP, and real GDP can
be calculated by either the expenditure approach or the income approach. In this essay, the
expenditure approach will be used. Aggregate expenditure describes the relationship between total
consumption and national income. It can be calculated with a formula: AE = C + I + G + NX. In
this formula, the C stands for household consumption, the I stands for investment expenditure, the
G stands for government expenditure and the NX stands for net export expenditure. The change of
these components will eventually affect real GPD. The expenditure approach is important because
it can tell the government of consumers demand so that the government can better allocate
resources. It can also convey the economic situation signals to the central bank to help them to carry
out macroeconomic regulation and control. The figure 1 below shows the aggregate expenditure

Whitman s Song Of Myself
Song of Myself , by Whalt Whitman, is a poem included in the book Leaves of Grass written in
1855. This poem is probably the most popular of the entire book and, also, one of the most
acclaimed and influential poems written by an American (Wikipedia, 2015). Due to its immense
popularity, it has been translated to many different languages. In the case of Spanish translations,
the most well known version is the one translated by Borges in 1969. Despite its public
acknowledgment, Borges translation is not completely faithful to the original poem. In fact, Canto
de mi mismo presents differences with the original poem, as a result of the differing personal
views from both authors. One phrase whose translation serves as an example of Borges

The Importance of a Kindergarten Teacher
Kindergarten children thrive when they can work independently and cooperatively with a small
group of peers (Gullo, D. F., 2006). A kindergarten teacher who is teaching students to work
independently and in small groups while learning about numbers must understand that the students
are very diverse and have been taught in many different ways. A kindergarten teacher is a very
important person in the life of the children entering elementary school. Teachers at the kindergarten
level must keep in mind that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

are ready;
providing opportunities to participate in games that emphasize strategies such as one to one
correspondence;
providing support to help them recognize the various counting strategies (e.g., tagging each object
as it is counted); providing opportunities to develop facility with finger pattern counting, so that 5
fingers and 10 fingers become anchors for the other numbers. Thus, students will recognize that
they do not have to recount the 5 fingers on one hand in order to show 6 fingers; instead, they can
automatically show the 5 fingers, say five , and then count on an additional finger from the other
hand to make 6 (A Guide to effective instruction in mathematics, kindergarten to grade 3 : number
sense and numeration, 2003).

New Public Management Model For The Nonprofit Agency,...
New Public Management and the Role of Nonprofit Organizations: Cultivating the Public Sector
The purpose of this paper is to apply the new public management model to the nonprofit agency,
Hands Across the World. First, an overview of the new public management model is provided.
Second, a brief description of the nonprofit organization, Hands Across the World is provided.
Third, the new public management model is applied to Hands Across the World.
New Public Management Today the new public management (NPM) model is the leading
worldview in the public sector. The political climate and ideology during the 1970s and 1980s
served as an impetus to migrate away from the old public administration approach and implement
new policies and procedures that would be of better service to the public interest and collective
good as well as restore trust and value in the bureaucratic process. Thus, during the mid 1990s, the
new public management worldview was realized to apply common practices used in the private
sector to the public sector. The goal of this approach was to achieve the same level of efficiency
found in the private sector and remove some of the redundancy, lack of transparency, and lack of
accountability in bureaucratic government to better serve the public interest. David Osborne and
Ted Gaebler s Reinventing Government (1992) served as a catalytic novel in the progression of
implementing private practices in the public sector. Under the NPM framework public

The Slopes Of War By. Perez
In the historical fiction novel The Slopes of War by N.A. Perez, the author illustrates the gruesome
battle that befell the little market town of Gettysburg during the Civil War through the various
perspectives of all the people whom were immersed and affected. These people included young men
fighting, generals arguing about their plans and tactics, and innocent citizens who aided causalities
regardless of what color their uniform happened to be. Perspectives from both the Confederate and
Union armies are offered in the text to grasp a better understanding of all the thoughts occurring
throughout the entire battle, as well as before and after. Throughout the novel, Perez elucidates the
emotional and physical aspects of warthe people endured, such as traumatizing, graphic images
that can serve as bad omens, and loss of loved ones. Also, the book further explains what war
truly signified, which was death. The positive results and overall effects of the war as described
in the novel, however, somewhat outweighs the negative causes and struggles. In the book Crispin
written by Avi, there is a particular quote in the novel on the first page in which reads, In the
midst of life comes death, in the midst of death comes life. This quote can be related to the novel
in numerous ways, and can be applied to life in general, too.
The quote can be interpreted in a myriad of different ways. Throughout our lives, death will surely
occur. It may not befall us at this current moment, but

Lord Durham Vs Lord Elgin
Gia Barela
Lord Durham Vs. Lord Elgin Lord Durham and Lord Elgin played a major role in setting the
foundation of Canada as we know today. However, Lord Durham was the mastermind behind the
idea of establishing a more responsible government to benefit the future of all Canadians. Durham
was appointed governor general by the British government to search for answers on why the
rebellion had occurred and the solutions. He observed that the issue of the rebellion was not
between the people, but the system of government. With that being said, the system of government
was flawed in a sense that majority of the French population, especially in Lower Canada, were not
getting the proper representation they rightfully deserve. Therefore

The Sixth Extinction, By Elizabeth Kolbert
Throughout the history of earth, several mass extinction events have occurred, thus changing life
on earth forever. Elizabeth Kolbert, in her novel The Sixth Extinction, defines mass extinctions as
...events that eliminate a significant proportion of the world s biota in a geologically insignificant
amount of time (Kolbert 16). Five major mass extinctions have transpired that significantly changed
biodiversity. Kolbert argues that Earthcurrently faces a Sixth mass extinction, one caused by
humans. Ever since humans roamed this earth, they have significantly affected biodiversity. Several
man made threats have accelerated extinction rates across the globe, such as global warming,
pollution, and introduced species. Current extinction rates... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The Spanish sailors named the Islands the Galapagos the Spanish name for Tortoise ( Tortoise
(Galapagos) 1). Ever since that expedition, the Galapagos Tortoise remains a symbol of the island
and the research that took place there, including that of famed naturalist Charles Darwin (Kolbert
68). Darwin noted the human caused extinction of the Chelonoidis elephantopus, a sub species of
the Galapagos Tortoise, in his renowned novel On the Origin of Species (Kolbert 68). Humans
have compiled an array of threats, all of which still affect the Galapagos Tortoise to this day. When
sailors first arrived on the island, they started to hunt and eat the tortoises in excess. This
exploitation continued with whaling ships, who would often load them onto the boats by the
hundreds. Merchantmen and pirates also continued this practice of hunting and capturing
Galapagos Tortoises in prodigious amounts. These animals seemed a great provision for anyone
on a boat because they could live up to a year without food of water. The sailors would often keep
them alive on the boat and kill them just before eating the fresh meat. Because of this overhunting,
the islands lost between 100,000 and 200,000 tortoises ( Galapagos Giant Tortoise ). Some of the
subspecies, including the one Darwin wrote about, were hunted to extinction (Kolbert 68). In
addition to killing for meat, whalers and

The Importance Of Meaningful Appropriation
Meaningful appropriation remains a vital precept of creativity and innovation. In the last 20 years,
many artists have constructed knowledge in forms of contemporary art from both social and
cultural sources. Artists have continuously remixed contents from certain cultures for new
expressive purposes. It is often deemed by members of the originating cultures, that appropriation in
the arts is disrespectful, as cultural elements become distorted and lost in translation. Meaningful
appropriation however is often misunderstood and is mainly viewed as borrowing that is in some
way inappropriate, unauthorised or undesirable. Although, artists in remixculturehave not
necessarily attempted to destroy cultures, but instead offer a new perspective to individuals by
bringing divergent cultures together through art. Artists such as Stella McCartney, a designer
famously known for her creation Chinatown Plaid, 2013 in fashion, utilises dominant creative
strategies such as remixing and collaging of fabrics in order to convey her artistic vision, which
highly compliments both the Refugee work culture and female individuals as strong and resilient.
In a similar sense, digital artist Michael Guppy remixes artworks using programs such as Adobe
Photoshop in order to remove central elements from famous artworks, a reoccurring theme in his
work in which he explores both the social and cultural side of technology and how it transforms
society. Whereas, graphic designer Thomas Robson

Rommel Dbq
Field Marshal Erwin Rommel was a brilliant leader who was extremely aggressive and who
failed at his goal of victory in North Africa. He would be well rewarded for his many successes
by German High Command who heaped promotions and wealth on Erwin Rommel for his many
aggressive victories. (Source 3.)He lost because of poor logistics, superior enemy numbers, and
because his Italian allies did little to improve his odds. Rommel would have been victorious with
his aggressive strategy if not for logistics, enemy reinforcements and poor Italian strength that
would provide extremely little support for his forces. Rommel was an extremely aggressive
commander, which was extremely rare after the slow and stagnant war of World War 1. (Source

This would lead to him being outnumbered no matter how much damage he did to the British.
The British could recover quickly troops at Auchinleck by sending large amounts of transports,
as their naval forces were almost unchallenged in the area. British forces quickly gained
Australian ninth division whose attack on Rommel s coast road line would halt any aggressive
movement by the Germans (source 8 pg. 286). This would decisively damage Rommel s
offensive ability and turn the tide in North Africa. These strong, resourceful and fresh Australian
troops would prove their mettle and aid the British and other allies in the fight against Rommel s
vastly outnumbered mechanized forces. On 26th of November, British forces are reinforced in
Tobruk by fresh New Zealander forces. The New Zealander forces like the Australians had a deep
connection to the British. Because of this connection, they would fight to the last man against
Rommel if needed and this determination combined with just sheer numbers would devastate
Rommel s forces. These Australian and New Zealander forces would defend Tobruk and Give
Rommel one of his first major defeats in the campaign for North Africa. Before the Battle of El
Alam Halfa Montgomery begged Churchill for more supplies and was granted more supplies which
would help Montgomery to completely devastate Rommel s forces at the

Cavalry Vs Roman Military Tactics
In the Ancient world cavalry wasn t used for the most part. However, there were some exceptions
such as the Macedonians. The cavalry was part of the Macedonian tactical system. However, in the
later years of the Roman Empire cavalry started to become more important for frontier defense
because it allowed for increased mobility. Also, romans used cavalryfor the rapid concentration of
forces to close the gap between legions. After 250 AD, cavalry was even more predominant in the
roman army. Furthermore, cavalry was very effective. Infantryhad several disadvantages when
confronted by cavalry. The only ways that infantry could defeat cavalry was if they had superior
fire power, which they didn t have at that time, and if they were disciplined

Units are said to fully absorb manufacturing costs. Most countries require some form of absorption costing for both external financial reports and for tax reports. Also, most companies across the world use absorption costing in their management reports. It is the most common approach to product costing throughout the world. Further, some manufacturing costs may be excluded from product costs. An ABC system uses a number of overhead cost pools, each of which is allocated to products and other defined cost objects using its own unique measure of activity. In contrast to traditional absorption costing which is used mostly for external financial reporting, activity based costing is particularly useful for internal and strategic decision making. 11 Activity Based Costing key features An activity is defined as any event that causes the consumption of overhead resources. An activity cost pool is a bucket that accumulates all costs related to a single activity measure. An activity measure is an allocation base in an ABC system. It is also referred to as cost driver. § Transaction drivers number of times an activity occurs § Duration drivers amount of time required to perform an activity

  • 7. Following Your Dreams What is the underlying reason as to why we do not fulfill our dreams? Maybe it is because we lack the inner motivation and desire within ourselves; or we tend to blame other people for our failures; or perhaps we are missing the resources that we desperately need. Sometimes it may be because others discourage us. A dream is a personal desire to accomplish something that we want to achieve, but we do not necessarily know where to begin or even have enough confidence within ourselves to fulfill it. A specific factor that plays a major role in fulfilling our dreams can be the issue of gender. Many people feel that women do not have the same opportunities that males are given in specific fields. They feel we need to be more realistic while following our dreams so that we do not set up disappointment for our selves. Like Morgan and Emerson, we must try to believe and have hope that one will pursue their dreams and go further. In other words, we must be supportive! If people are not giving us support while we are making dreams and trying to follow through with them, then we may give up. People would start to feel like their dreams were not important or worthwhile. As a result, we tend to lack motivation to even start our goals and dreams. So, how exactly do we figure out our dreams and then follow through with them no matter what anybody else says? Perhaps we can look to those like McClintock that have already set and started fulfilling their goals, and then do what works best for us. In 1942, McClintock s profession of becoming a scientist was secured when she received a haven at the Carnegie Institution of Washington at Cold Spring Harbor, where she has remained ever since. There is a lot to this book, such as themes, characters, and quite a few different locations. The main theme of this story, Holes, is growing up because, in this book Stanley learns a lot; he has a lot of ambition, and he shows a ton of responsibility for his own actions, but also for others as well, whether it will get him into some trouble or not. He shows it often because in the book he learns that not all his unlucky events are due to his no good dirty rotten pig stealing great great grandfather s curse. Stanley shows responsibility for his own actions and at one point others actions. So, tell me Caveman, said Mr.Sir. How did my sack of sunflower seeds get in your hole? I stole it from your trunk, Stanley answered. (Sachar, 56) This quote was chosen because Stanley says that he took the seed but really he was just covering to make friends. Another example is when he tries to find Zero and attempts to steal Mr.Sir s truck. In the moment he gets caught he realized that it was his fault that he got caught and not his no good dirty rotten pig stealing great great grandfather s curse that had been set on the family. These factors have contributed to the manufacturing overhead both in terms of the high cost of raw materials and other inputs in the manufacturing and distribution process. Also, the easy access and low cost of acquiring an import license in comparison with difficulty in import license acquisition for manufacturing equipment spare parts also discouraged local manufacturing (Mojekwu, Idowu, Sode, 2013). One of the most notable chapters in Tim O Brien s book The Things They Carried is The Sweetheart of Song Tra Bong which is about a soldier bringing his girlfriend to Vietnam. In this chapter, the story is told by Rat Kiley who has a reputation for exaggeration and overstatement. The story starts out with a few soldiers jokingly throwing around the idea of getting girls into their camp. One example is that he brings up the color green many times during this chapter. In most of these color references he is referring to Vietnam. Eventually, her eyes seemed to shine in the dark not blue, though, but a bright jungle green. What the author was trying to say was that Mary became one with the cruel, unforgiving land. This occurred when her transformation was complete and she had turned from a nice, young girl into a cold, killing machine. Secondly, to help give the reader an image of how much she had changed, O Brien includes some really disturbing imagery. Such as when Mark finds her in the Green Berets bunker, she was wearing a necklace of human tongues. Elongated and narrow, like pieces of blackened leather, the tongues were threaded along a length of copper wire, one overlapping the next, the tips curled upward as if caught in a final shrill syllable. This is important because it gives the reader a vivid details in order for them to make a clear mental image of how messed up this girl has become and how the land/war has completely taken over who she was before she visited. Science Fiction and Transcendence, David Desser gives multiple examples of elements of the hard boiled universe in Blade Runner: Deckard is an ex cop, an ex blade runner, doubtless in part because of the corruption of the system as seen in Captain Bryant, who calls replicants skin jobs (the equivalent of calling black people niggers), and in Gaff, who dresses like a dandy. Most importantly, however, Deckard is alienated from his fellow man, divorced that is, not only from his wife (who he tells us, thought of him as sushi cold fish ), but from all of humanity. It is ironic and significant that when Deckard does finally fall in love, does finally make a genuine emotional commitment, it is with a replicant a woman who is not a human. • 18. Happy Ending And Inevitable Ending The ending of a story is extremely important due to the fact that it determines whether it is commercial or literary fiction. There are three types of endings that are significant; happy, unhappy, and indeterminate endings. Happy endings are when the protagonist solves their problems with either themselves or someone else. The story would usually end with a happily ever after. An unhappy ending is usually more about reality since in real life a happy ending is hard to find. An unhappy ending usually talks about the defeat of humans and their mistakes that they might have which would result in troublesome outcomes. Then the indeterminate endings come into play, which doesn t have a clear result or conclusion. The ending of a story usually determines whether the story is commercial or literary. A story with a happy ending will more than likely fall under commercial since it s ending wouldn t happen in reality. On the one hand, he understood the importance in addressing some of the largest health issues of our time. On the other however, it seems that many of his policies were made without proper scientific evidence and backing and were made based on his own personal philosophies rather those of the people they affected. He himself said I just spent roughly $600 million of my own money to try to stop the scourge of tobacco {NYT} Positive Aspects: The Mayor took charge of the fight against numerous issues and implemented some of the strictest public health legislation in the world. Some of the more notable examples were his stances on smoking and obesity. Not only did Bloomberg make policies, which directly addressed the core cause of the issues, but also he succeeded in levying the blame and burden of these policies upon the industries that were profiteering at the cost of the public s health. Among the most significant of these policies were the efforts to tax sugary drinks and ban others in a move that stated that the sale of any cup or bottle of sweetened drink larger than 16 fluid ounces about the size of a medium coffee, and smaller than a common soda bottle would be prohibited {NYT}. Evidently, this policy was aimed at reducing the runaway obesity rates that were being experienced in New York City. Additionally, the smoking ban in restaurants and in the work ... My Father Is A Second Generation As anyone in America can relate, heritage and where we come from can construct our personality, build our demeanor, and in some cases, determines who we are as people. It often amazes me when I step foot into a class room, or go into a local bar, even walk down the street and see how many different faces there are. In some aspect, when I look close enough, I can see dead people. Not dead as in walking zombies, but a glimpse of the past ancestors that helped mold these individuals into the people standing before me. With that in mind, when I look the mirror I can see who came before me and through past stories I can feel the struggles that Italians felt as they crossed the ocean to become Americans. My father is a second generation Sicilian who grew up in East Lynn, and my mother is a second generation Northern Italian, who grew up in West Lynn. One of the stories I often hear is how the Italians and the Sicilians never really got along, and frequently butt heads. Naturally it was very Romeo and Juliet like that they would end up together. When they become husband and wife my mother had gone to the jewelers and had this pepper like charm created. This amulate is known as the Italian Horn, or Cornicello . Mimesis was a term and principle used by both Plato and Aristotle. According to Plato, art is an imitation of and imitation when compared to the forms. What he means by this is that an art creation is an imitation of something physical, which in itself is an imitation of a form. Aristotlebelieves artist creations are an imitation of an action . This is interpreted as art is the imitation of the action of life. Together they both agree that artistic creations are imitations of the truth or imitations of the forms. Rather than seeing artistic creations as imitations, I argue that art is an individuals perception of the forms, as well as it is the closest an individual can come to comprehending the forms. The supporting reasons for this argument include proving that the sensible are in fact artworks in their own way, that everyones perception of the forms are different, and that art is the closest way of portraying our versions of the forms.
To begin, the Republic by Plato presents us with the allegory of the cave. In the cave there are people who can only see shadows cast on the wall. The shadows are cast by puppeteers (the divine) and the puppets that represent the forms or the real objects. The struggle for the aristocracy, concerned with the passing down their heredity through the generations, was concern that their breeding lines had been illegitimated; this is a major plot in the short tale The Deluge of Norderney . Most of the stories also contain an element of the supernatural. The theme brought about here is that rather than being the forces that control the path of their destinies, men are ... • 40. Modern Day Leadership Is Not Black And White In my short but fulfilling career I have had many opportunities to lead different groups and organizations. These organizations have been in a vast number of areas such as for profit, non profit, community based and governmental agencies. These unique set of experiences have given me a different understanding of leadershipin different fields and allows me to take the best in each and apply it to the other. Leadership to me is not a definable word rather it is a living theory that changes through generational spans. Therefore, I think the best theory or style of leadership has to be a mix of all theory s and concepts. As a leader, I need to inspire those around me to succeed and reach for the impossible. It is my job to form the effective team because a leader is only as good as those around him. As I mentioned above Leadership to me is living and breathing theory idea. If you take a look at the different theories, from Trait, Behavioral, Situational, New Leadership and Emerging each has built off of each other (Northouse, 2014). As our society continues to develop and people become educated our understanding will increase not because we are growing but because more people are questioning and are asking why they are being told what to do. An example of what typifies leadership to me is a contrary to what a leader should do. As the elected secretary in my masonic fraternity it is my job to see the lodge business in conducted in accordance to all fraternal rules and governmental laws. Our organizational hierarchy is as follows; Worshipful Master, Senior Warden, Junior Warden, and Secretary. In a business organization that would correlate as follows, President, Senior Vice President, Vice President, and Chief Operating Officer. That being said, during my 5 years in office I have had five different leaders and five different archetypes that really define how I look at leadership (George, 2007). The worst by far was the rationalizer (George, 2007). As I mentioned before in one of my weekly posts ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For different purpose, the different GDP frames will be used. Real GDP is the value of final goods and services produced in a given year when valued at the prices of a reference base year; Nominal GDP is the value of final goods and services produced in a given year when valued at the prices of that year. The maximum level of real GDP that can be produced while avoiding shortages of labour, capital, land and entrepreneurial ability that would bring rising inflation is called potential GDP (McTaggart, Findlay Parkin, 2012). In this essay, GDP stands for real GDP, and real GDP can be calculated by either the expenditure approach or the income approach. In this essay, the expenditure approach will be used. Aggregate expenditure describes the relationship between total consumption and national income. It can be calculated with a formula: AE = C + I + G + NX. In this formula, the C stands for household consumption, the I stands for investment expenditure, the G stands for government expenditure and the NX stands for net export expenditure. The change of these components will eventually affect real GPD. The expenditure approach is important because it can tell the government of consumers demand so that the government can better allocate resources. It can also convey the economic situation signals to the central bank to help them to carry out macroeconomic regulation and control. The figure 1 below shows the aggregate expenditure ... This poem is probably the most popular of the entire book and, also, one of the most acclaimed and influential poems written by an American (Wikipedia, 2015). Due to its immense popularity, it has been translated to many different languages. In the case of Spanish translations, the most well known version is the one translated by Borges in 1969. Despite its public acknowledgment, Borges translation is not completely faithful to the original poem. In fact, Canto de mi mismo presents differences with the original poem, as a result of the differing personal views from both authors. One phrase whose translation serves as an example of Borges ... • 44. New Public Management Model For The Nonprofit Agency,... New Public Management and the Role of Nonprofit Organizations: Cultivating the Public Sector The purpose of this paper is to apply the new public management model to the nonprofit agency, Hands Across the World. First, an overview of the new public management model is provided. Second, a brief description of the nonprofit organization, Hands Across the World is provided. Third, the new public management model is applied to Hands Across the World. New Public Management Today the new public management (NPM) model is the leading worldview in the public sector. The political climate and ideology during the 1970s and 1980s served as an impetus to migrate away from the old public administration approach and implement new policies and procedures that would be of better service to the public interest and collective good as well as restore trust and value in the bureaucratic process. Thus, during the mid 1990s, the new public management worldview was realized to apply common practices used in the private sector to the public sector. The goal of this approach was to achieve the same level of efficiency found in the private sector and remove some of the redundancy, lack of transparency, and lack of accountability in bureaucratic government to better serve the public interest. David Osborne and Ted Gaebler s Reinventing Government (1992) served as a catalytic novel in the progression of implementing private practices in the public sector. These people included young men fighting, generals arguing about their plans and tactics, and innocent citizens who aided causalities regardless of what color their uniform happened to be. Throughout the novel, Perez elucidates the emotional and physical aspects of warthe people endured, such as traumatizing, graphic images that can serve as bad omens, and loss of loved ones. Ever since that expedition, the Galapagos Tortoise remains a symbol of the island and the research that took place there, including that of famed naturalist Charles Darwin (Kolbert 68). Darwin noted the human caused extinction of the Chelonoidis elephantopus, a sub species of the Galapagos Tortoise, in his renowned novel On the Origin of Species (Kolbert 68). Humans have compiled an array of threats, all of which still affect the Galapagos Tortoise to this day. When sailors first arrived on the island, they started to hunt and eat the tortoises in excess. This exploitation continued with whaling ships, who would often load them onto the boats by the hundreds. Merchantmen and pirates also continued this practice of hunting and capturing Galapagos Tortoises in prodigious amounts. These animals seemed a great provision for anyone on a boat because they could live up to a year without food of water. The sailors would often keep them alive on the boat and kill them just before eating the fresh meat. Because of this overhunting, the islands lost between 100,000 and 200,000 tortoises ( Galapagos Giant Tortoise ). Some of the subspecies, including the one Darwin wrote about, were hunted to extinction (Kolbert 68). In addition to killing for meat, whalers and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. The Importance Of Meaningful Appropriation Meaningful appropriation remains a vital precept of creativity and innovation. In the last 20 years, many artists have constructed knowledge in forms of contemporary art from both social and cultural sources. Artists have continuously remixed contents from certain cultures for new expressive purposes. It is often deemed by members of the originating cultures, that appropriation in the arts is disrespectful, as cultural elements become distorted and lost in translation. Meaningful appropriation however is often misunderstood and is mainly viewed as borrowing that is in some way inappropriate, unauthorised or undesirable. Although, artists in remixculturehave not necessarily attempted to destroy cultures, but instead offer a new perspective to individuals by bringing divergent cultures together through art. Artists such as Stella McCartney, a designer famously known for her creation Chinatown Plaid, 2013 in fashion, utilises dominant creative strategies such as remixing and collaging of fabrics in order to convey her artistic vision, which highly compliments both the Refugee work culture and female individuals as strong and resilient. In a similar sense, digital artist Michael Guppy remixes artworks using programs such as Adobe Photoshop in order to remove central elements from famous artworks, a reoccurring theme in his work in which he explores both the social and cultural side of technology and how it transforms society.
