Abe Lincoln and Slavery Essay
Abraham was born a poor farmhand boy in Kentucky, but he moved from small cabins in Kentucky,
Indiana, and finally settled in Illinois. He was a farmhand for his father in these states and didn t have
much exposure to slavery, although, these states did have black/slave laws. Lincoln got his first dose
of slavery at the age of eighteen when he was hired to take a flatboat down to New Orleans. I quote
from Lincoln: A Photobiography Lincoln would never forget the site of black men, women, and
children being driven along in chains and being auctioned off like cattle. This still didn t change his
opinion on slavery (he didn t have one).
In 1846, after experience in law and the Illinois state legislature, ... Show more content on

When the Kansas Nebraska Act repealed the Missouri Compromise by allowing slavery in the
Louisiana territory forbidden by the Compromise Lincoln was rocketed into an abolitionist standpoint.
He spoke against Stephen Douglas act and campaigned for anti slavery Whigs. Lincoln spoke harshly
against slavery, even going so far as to call it a cancer . In 1856 Lincoln switched to the Republican
Party solely because the Whigs couldn t be absolutely against slavery as a party, while the
Republicans strongly disfavored slavery. In 1858 Lincoln fought against Stephen Douglas in a battle
for the senate. They held three debates, Lincoln strongly favoring abolition while Douglas stayed at a
position in which he believed in white supremacy saying, I am not in favor of Negro equality . At this
point in his life Lincoln was a leading abolitionist and fully fledged against slavery. Lincoln lost the
election by a slim margin but didn t even stop fighting; in fact the fight had just begun. Lincoln was
elected to run for the Republican president in 1860. Lincoln new that since he strongly despised
slavery that he wasn t going to win any slave states; so he strongly campaigned in the north. For this
action he became the president elect. Because of his election, South Carolina seceded from the union.
Lincoln wanted to preserve the union without bloodshed, but that didn t happen. At the beginning of

Crime Statistics In The 19th Century
In England and Wales, the police record serious offences of which they are aware, but this does not
represent all crimes that are committed in the country. No set if statistics is ever entirely accurate and
recent changes to the collection and publication of crime statistics indicate that politicians are aware
that (Maguire 2007). The first country to gather national statistics on crime was France. In 1826 this
begun with the first published analysis of those statistic being presented by Adolphe Quetelet in 1842.
Crime recorded by the policed has been issued in England and Wales since 1876.
There are two core approaches which are used to try and measure the level of criminal activity.
Number one there is the information that is collected by criminal justice agencies, and this data
contains crimes that are reported by the public or offences that come to the attention of the authorities
in other ways. Method number two includes gathering evidence from sample populations about their
experience of the assault, often known as victim surveys. The police collect records of the ... Show

The British crime survey has for some time found that the feeling that the matter is too trivial is the
most commonly cited reason for not reporting, or the victim felt that the police could do little about
the offence. About violent crime, furthermore, the most common reason given for non reporting was
that victims considered the issue to be a private matter and wished to deal with it themselves. Crimes

The Pros And Cons Of Redundancy
Redundancy: This is a legal term that arises where an individual is either dismissed, put on short term
or lay off (Grimes and Horgan, 1988), although this is done because of the legal implications and
employers don t like to be sued by employees for such reasons because of the lump sum accrued to it
as damages or penalty. There are identifiable reasons for such act which could be either the employer
has intended to cease to carry on business or the reason for employment of the individual no longer
exists (fewer persons are required). Nonetheless, the employee (provided he has satisfied the Social
Welfare Act of 1952 (as amended) must be employed by the employer for minimum of 2 years and
must be insured under the Social Welfare Act) is able to establish a ground of redundancy, and it
behoves the employer to justify the selection of redundancy is genuine and in a fair manner(Faulkner,

Integrative And Analytical Tools For The Business
Integrative and Analytical Tools To be successful in any modern business there are a few things that
must take place. The company has to get oriented; it needs to identify the primary objectives of the
business, as well as define the scope, and finally perform both internal and external analysis of the
operations. Each of these things has their place and since our company is one of the best out there, the
first three have already been established. What we are here today to do is to perform the analysis
portion. There are many different forms of analysis tools for the company to choose from. Some of the
heavy hitters are the SWOT or strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threat tool. The MOST
analysis tool focuses on the mission, the objectives, the strategies and the tactics in order for the
company to meet its needs. The last tool that will be discussed here is the PEST analytical tool. PEST
stands for political, economic, sociological, and technological. Breaking each one of these into more
details can show the level of value each one has in the analytical world. The SWOT analysis is most
often used in the beginning stages of a company. The main area of focus is the external and internal
factors to identify where the best opportunities for improvement are. The SWOT tool also helps point
out danger areas and where improvements can be made. The first area the tool analyze are the
company s strength. This is where your company has an advantage over the

Hercules Compare And Contrast
In both the Disney movie and the written version of the myth about Hercules there are a lot of
similarities. Hercules is very loved by his father and he is also a demigod in both. In both the Disney
movie and the written version Hercules had to perform nearly impossible tasks. In both a girl named
Meg acted as a mortal god. Also, there are a lot of differences in the Disney movie and the written
version. In the Disney movie Hercules was born on Mt.Olympus and in the written version he was
born in Thebes. Another difference is in the Disney movie Hercules becomes a god by performing one
ultimate task. In the written version Hercules has to perform the 12 labors for Hercules to be a god. A
necessary change that Disney made was that they

Colonialism And Christianism
The role colonialism has played in the involvement of Christianity practice in East Africa, is because
of the impact of outside sources have determined the historical instabilities of the practice of
Christianity and its branches. The expansion per year would result in the requirement to provide four
times the amount of personnel, finance, church building, provision for Christian education, etc ,
although this all depends on the susceptibility of the Europeans and their economic, political and
social influences. In Mahenge, Tanzania, there was scarcity in the ratio of priests (including high), to
the congregation, compelling the administration of the Church (Green 1995: 34). The 1900 s were
when a large amount of missionaries were associated with colonial authorities, and this lead many to
have the assumption of missionaries and the administrators having little to no difference (Gray 1982:
60). The African missionaries run by Europeans, had an intimate dependence on the support of secular
rulers (Green 1982: 65). Communication within the sub Saharan were in no sphere more significant
than in the revolutionary changes that were taking place , and the independence addressed the
missions, state, and also albeit for their own benefit (Green 1982: 66). The communication sphere for
missionaries was generating innovations of critical importance for Africans (Green 1982: 66).

Universities and colleges from corner to corner of the country face a non increasing problem of
student attrition; student involvement could be a key part of decreasing this issue. Why should we get

The Importance Of High School Student Athletes
Although some may believe that high school student athletes who do poorly in their academic courses
should still be able to participate in athletic programs, I do not agree. It allows students who are
capable of performing well in the classroom environment to feel as if it is not necessary to do so, for
most athletes, high school sports will be as far as they will go, and furthermore the idea that sports are
an extra curricular rather than a privilege has been lost.
The stereotype that all athletes, specifically football players and cheerleaders, are all dumb jocks, is a
very popular belief. However, this is of course not true for everyone, but some of these athletes may
use this as an excuse to under preform since they believe that less is expected of them to begin with. In
most cases, for any student, the amount of effort you put in will be what you receive back. If teachers
in school cut slack for athletes just so the star player is able to play Friday nights, then students will
never feel like they need to try because their grades are just handed to them. Athletes are expected to
give 110% on the field or court, so why wouldn t the same be expected inside the classroom? While
people could argue that the player is an important aspect to the team, then it should be enforced for
them to pass on their own with, for example, 70 s and above. With less expected of them, they will
lose the opportunity of learning the value of having a strong work ethic. Additionally, when their
coaches double as their core class teachers, rules that are set in place for no pass, no play are bound to
be broken. Breaking these rules only hurts the students in the long run.
For most of these athletes, high school sports will be the finish line. But, if all of their time is spent
focusing on sports rather than academics, when the time is up and reality sets in, they are not going to
be prepared. By coaches, teachers or even principals allowing these athletes to breeze by without
applying themselves or working hard, it is almost equivalent to setting them up for failure. So much
time will go by wasting away on something that is fun for four short years while they could be setting
out to achieve bigger and better things.

David Moore s A Defense Of Common Sense
There are certain beliefs about the world that we can conclude to be absolutely true. For Moore, these
beliefs are Common Sense. It is our basic view and common sense of the world that is correct. Moore
believes that you have to be justified in what you believe, and common sense is an adequate way of
justifying those beliefs. In A Defense of Common Sense , Moore argues these claims in 5 different
sections. These include: certain knowledge of truisms, the distinction between mental facts and
physical facts, the existence of God, God creating all material things and the afterlife, how common
sense propositions are to be analyzed concerning sense data, and how philosophers are confused about
analyzing interactions between the external world ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Heading (2) is comprised of a single proposition, which makes an assertion of an entire set of classes
of propositions. It is a proposition that cannot be asserted without the whole list of truisms from (1).
Heading (2)of propositions correspond with (1) regarding to someone knowing that there are many
human beings other than oneself that have gone through the same processes and experiences on Earth
as asserted in heading (1) of propositions.
Moore identifies that heading (2) of propositions differs in opinion with other philosophers. Moore
splits philosophers differing in his opinion of Common Sense propositions from being wholly true into
two categories. Some philosophers either deny the truth of the beliefs or deny that we know the beliefs
at all. Moore uses the example of the earth has existed for many years past to point out that these other
philosophers that dispute an assertion like that, do not mean it to be a simple question when as if it is
true. They are abstract in their thinking, by asking more questions on the meanings of the words being
asserted. For example, if you are asked if you think that humans have existed on earth for many years ,
the other philosophers might answer with more questions. They may ask questions like, what do you
mean by exist? Moore thinks these philosophers are impractical in asking those questions. It is clear
that a question like, do you think humans have existed on earth for many years , that it is an

The Plight Of Low Income Individuals And Their Families
Saul Alvarez English 101 The Plight of Low Income Individuals and Their Families According to the
PRB article U.S. Low Income Working Families Increasing , 42.7% of people live below the poverty
line, with 32.1% of them living 200% below the poverty line; this group is categorized as the low
income group.(PRB) 59% of low income working families have one or more minority parents. Living
in a low income community limits one s standard of living through academic gaps, the selection of
food available, an ever present fear of victimization , and a lack of resources available to both children
and adults. The differences in academic gaps between children and teenagers from low income
neighborhoods and affluent neighborhoods present themselves in the schools the students attend. A
study by the Department of Education showed that students in low income areas did not have access to
the same rigorous courses, and when they did, the resources available to the low income students was
lacking compared to the resources the students in high income neighborhoods had access to. In the
low income areas black and Hispanic students were twice as likely to have teachers with less
experience, with one or two years in the profession, compared to schools in affluent neighborhoods
with well to do white students. Another thing increasing the academic gap is that only 22 percent of
local districts reported offering pre kindergarten or other early learning programs for low income
children.

Legal Journals On American Law
Privacy, meaning the right to be left alone, has intellectual roots tracing back to the 19th century. On
December 15, 1890, Samuel D. Warren and Louis D. Brandeis had their article The Right to Privacy
published in the Harvard Law Review. This article was highly regarded as one of the exceptional
examples of the effect legal journals have on American law, and was the first of many future law
review discussions. It is our purpose to consider whether the existing law affords a principle which
can properly be invoked to protect the privacy of the individual; and if it does what the nature and
extent of such protection is (Gregory, Kalven, and Epstein 1133). Warren and Brandeis stressed the
importance and necessity for some form of protection for the private individual when the press is
overstepping their boundaries and the indecency their gossip creates. Several decades later, in August
of 1960, William L. Prosser published his article Privacy in the California Law Review. In this article
he outlined the four classifications of privacy law which are as follows:
1. Intrusion upon the plaintiff s seclusion or solitude, or into his private affairs.
2. Public disclosure of embarrassing private facts about the plaintiff.
3. Publicity which places the plaintiff in a false light in the public eye.
4. Appropriation, for the defendant s advantage, of the plaintiff s name or likeness.
The second classification refers to publication of private matters, which will be the

The Legacy Of The Jim Crow Laws
The years leading up to the 1960 s were ones full of worldly and civil unrest. Wars raged, blood
spilled, and many lives were lost. However, these wars weren t always fought across continents and
countries. Some were fought internally, without involving assault rifles or trenches. The war I m
speaking did involve two sides, but not Axis and Union. This war dealt with racial segregation and
hatred among races . This movement sprouted all the way from the roots of slavery and the oppression
of those enslaved. Nearly a hundred years after the end of slavery a clash between races was still very
prevalent in the United States. Segregation was in full effect and blacks everywhere were being treated
beyond unfairly. Blacks and even some others, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, this movement would not come without its fair share of violence and hatred. Plenty of
resistance came from whites who believed their race was superior. The NAACP (National Association
for the Advancement of Colored People) did the best they could in order to fight against this racism,
starting their anti lynching campaign in the 1930 s. While other organizations attempted to start
campaigns like this as well, the NAACP proved to be the most influential organization during the civil
rights movement (Janken, n.d.). Perhaps the most detrimental organization towards this movement
was one known as the Ku Klux Klan, also known as the KKK. The KKK were, and still are huge
advocates of white supremacy and fought against more than just the blacks. They were/still are known
to be hateful towards Jews, Catholics, immigrants, and many more (History.com, 2009). The KKK
was responsible for countless crimes during this era. Blacks were lynched, houses were burned to the
ground, and countless black families were torn apart. The KKK spread across and occupied nearly
every southern states in the United States in the years before the Civil Rights Act of 1964. However,
despite all of this adversity, many blacks continued to protest and fight one way or another. This was
the beginning of the monumental protests led by two of the most important and influential figures of

Examples Of Misunderstandings In A Good Man Is Hard To Find
Misunderstandings
As represented in the story A Good Man Is Hard to Find by Flannery O Connor, a good man was hard
to be and had different ideas of how to pursue it. Going through the journey with the grandmother and
son and learning about the Misfit, the audience can witness the actions being made by different
characters to witness their fall and/or their triumph.
When looking into the grandmother more deeply, the audience can detect the intensity of her self
absorption . She would consider herself a lady with high standards of herself. In case of an accident,
anyone seeing her dead on the highway would know at once that she was a lady (O Connor 297). Even
in the most gruesome cases, she would want to be known as being the high status. Character ... Show

The Hidden Gift Of Being An American Essay
Being able to call yourself an American is a gift, that holds hidden meanings. To me, the definition of
an American is someone who embraces both freedom and the responsibility that comes with it.
America has promised the experience of freedom in race, religion, gender, and the right to express
yourself. Americans know this reality did not occur overnight. Many courageous people fought and
are still fighting for freedom. However, the hidden meaning of behind the reality of being an American
can be demonstrated as greed and longing for wealth or power. This hidden truth is a mask many
Americans may wear, because they are to ashamed to admit how the American Dream is changing into
materials and ethics. The twenty first century is losing the prideful gift of being an American.
Frederick Douglass was a man who fought for his freedom and faced all the responsibilities that came
with it. He was heroic and lionhearted, who had no hidden qualities. Frederick Douglass called out
white Christians for their approval of slavery on religious grounds. He believed, Those who profess to

Magellan was certain that he could find the Spice Islands by sailing west, and in 1508 he asked King
Charles I for some ships. King Charles I gave him five ships: the Trinidad, San Antonio, Victoria,

Islands. His second stop was Rio De Janeiro, and they traded a lot with the natives there. Later on they
stopped at Rio De La Plata for supplies. When nearing the tip of South America, they looked for a
strait which connected the Atlantic Ocean with the South Ocean that had been seen by a sailor in 1513.
After they found the strait, some people wanted to turn back but Magellan was convinced the Spice

Pacific Ocean because Pacific meant calm. A lot of men died of scurvy because there wasn t enough

Behid the Headlines
To be a slave to others ideologies, is to give up your own sense of freedom and lie to your own self.
When our own self interest is put behind others, it makes us feel lost and uncertain in our own life. We
are not sure what to do with our lives. In life we are faced with many hard circumstances that are not
easy to overcome, but if we can reach back to our old roots we can free ourselves from our patternistic
lifestyles and pursue what we want to do. In the short story Behind the Headlines by Vidyut Aklujkar,
we see life through the main character Lakshmi s eyes. Her life has been taken over by her husband s
life and she is trapped living the same way for 12 years. Lakshmi s life can be a parallel to a news

information is coming out In this short story, when we first start reading we aren t given too much
information. As the news keeps covering the story, we are given more background on the event and all
the circumstances that led up to the event, and as the news reporters get to the end of the story, we are
finally given a conclusion that either makes us happy or sad. In this short story case, you are left
feeling happy that Lakshmi found her way out. When we are stuck in a rut and not able to take control

Liturgical Theology Chapter Summary
Chan, Simon. Liturgical Theology: The Church as Worshiping Community. Downers Grove, IL: IVP
Academic, 2006. Simon Chan, in his book Liturgical Theology: The Church as Worshiping
Community, challenges the Evangelical Pentecostal worldview through the lens of liturgy and
sacrament. As a theologian in the Assemblies of God denomination, Chan poses the question, of
whether the church is an instrument to accomplish God s purpose in creation or an expression of God
s ultimate purpose itself. This is expressed through the term divine humanity, each chapter slowly
begins to unravel how the church should strive to be the object Christ to the world, thus becoming its
identity. The focus of the book began to combine such an expression of liturgical theology in the
Pentecostal mindset. Chan engages the reader to critically analyze why church progressions are made
in certain ways, as well as why we believe what we believe in the Pentecostal view. Shmeman,

Knee Joint Essay
The knee joint is the largest and most complex in the human body. Being able to understand the
anatomy of the knee joint is a key factor in being able to identify the issues with the knee.
People all ages often suffer from knee pain. Due to the amount of things that can go wrong, by
understanding how the knee works, one can prevent new injuries and solve old injuries.
The knee is made up of two joints, the tibiofemoral and the patellofemoral. The tibiofemoral joint is
composed of the thigh and shin bones. The patellofemoral joint forms the kneecap. This type of joint
is called a hinge joint. This type of joint can bend, straighten and twist.
The knee is also a synovial joint. This means that the knee joint has a joint capsule. This is similar to a

The majority of knee movements occur between the femur, patella, and tibia.
Covering the bones is the articular cartilage. It is a hard and slippery substance that allows the knee
glide smoothly and to reduce friction as the knee is moved.
Between the femur and tibia is where one would find the meniscus. There are two menisci in the knee;
one medially and one laterally. The meniscus serves as a shock absorber of the knee. It is in a wedge
shape and is made of a tough, rubbery substance.
The knee also contains a series of tendons. The quadricep tendons connect the patella to the muscles
on the front of the femur. The patellar tendons connect the patella to the tibia. In addition, there are
also the hamstrings on the back side of the thigh. These muscles play a key role in stabilizing and
moving the knee

Lord Of The Flies By William Shakespeare
Perhaps one of the most famous betrayals in history was that of Julius Caesar by his friend Marcus
Brutus. Upon realizing his friend s part in his death, a shocked Caesar asks, Et tu, Brute? [You too,
Brutus?] and falls to his death. (Et tu, Brute?) The allegorical story Lord of The Flies consists of many
situations where the conflicts and betrayals between Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin are represented
through two boys on the island, Jack and Ralph. In the beginning of the story, Jack and Ralph work
together and have generally peaceful relations. However, as time goes on, tension on the island

Jack and Ralph are two of the older boys, both headstrong in two separate ways. Ralph has a desire to

leader and elected chief, but makes sure to give Jack an important role as well after noticing his
jealousy. Ralph says of Jack, Jack s in charge of the choir. They can be what do you want them to be?
Jack responds with Hunters, and Jack and Ralph smiled at each other with a shy liking (Golding 23).
Ralph gives Jack this job more so to avoid conflict than to have any type of second in command on the
island. This is largely a political move, just as the Nazi Soviet Non Aggression Pact was. In the eyes of
Stalin, who is compared to Ralph, the pact to keep peace largely benefited him. Stalin was given time
to build up the Soviet military while keeping his nation on peaceful terms with Germany (German
Soviet Nonaggression Pact), and Jack was given a job by Ralph to avoid conflict. The alliance
between Hitler and Stalin helped the both of them out immensely; it even contained a secret
agreement in which the Soviets and Germans agreed how they would later divide up Eastern Europe
(German Soviet Nonaggression Pact). The original meetings of both Hitler

Joyner Lucas I M Sorry Meaning
Rough Draft Essay #4 The song I chose was I m Sorry by the artist Joyner Lucas. This song has a
pretty deep meaning to me. It s about a man who commits suicide. Last year around Christmas time I

so naturally we started talking. I m the type of person who cares about people a little too much. I
started noticing that he got more quiet and more to himself. I never thought he wanted to hurt himself.
I trusted him and he knew he could trust me too. Things at home weren t good. He was hurting. No
kid should ever go through that (he is my age). A couple weeks later things seemed like they were
getting better. He used music as his escape. Me and him would talk about different songs that we liked
and how they affected how we felt. Cheesy stuff like that. Then one night at around 11 p.m. ish he

The Immune System
The immune system is a network of organs that contain cells which recognize foreign substances and
destroys them. All living organisms are exposed to harmful substances and most can protect
themselves in several ways, either with physical barriers or chemicals that repel and kill them. It
protects vertebrates against viruses, bacteria, fungi and other parasites. These viruses are called
pathogens.

Inflammatory response
Diseased organisms trigger the inflammatory response off in the affected tissues. It is a non specific
defence which attacks invading organisms. Blood flow increases and neutrophil cells ingest and
destroy organisms.
The invading organisms damage the tissues so they release prostaglandins and histamine. They not
only attract neutrophil cells they also cause pain and swelling.
The neutrophils in other parts of the body are attracted by poisons which are produced by organisms.
They can get through the tiniest of places in the blood vessel walls to enable it to reach the injured
tissues.
Antibodies are proteins which are specially created to attach themselves to the invading organisms.
Antibodies are recognized by their receptors, the antibody and the diseased organisms attach
themselves to the neutrophils. The neutrophils form pseudopods which swallow up the organisms.
Once ingested the organisms become isolated in the phagolysosome, which is a type of cell. This is
known as phagocytosis.
The substances which have broken down the organisms drain into the phagolysosome. The undigested
parts of organisms can be either excreted at the cell membrane or stored.
The non specific inflammatory response can prevent the spread of infection. However, if infection
does spreads there are two defences an antibody or

To What Extent Does Criminal Law Reflect the Moral and...
To what extent does criminal law reflect the moral and ethical standards of society?
Criminal law is a construct of the government, enforced through tangible measures. In a democratic
society, the government is elected by the citizens, and as such, laws are generally conceived with the
aim to reflect whatever ethical or moral standards are presently acceptable. However, in order to be
truly effective, some legislation must circumvent current sociological viewpoints in order to create
laws that are genuinely in the best interests of society. This results in a delicate balancing act, as
lawmakers attempt to weigh the views of the majority against the need for laws to be both reasoned
and objective.

The law and legal processes are utilised in various ways in order to provide a fair and just trial process
for the victim and the accused, as well as the general community. There are set standards ensuring that
the trial process is a fair one for all involved, as a functioning, fair and efficient justice system is the
cornerstone of any true democracy.
In most cases, one of the main objectives of courts and the sentences they impose is that of
rehabilitation. This is evidenced through a growing move in favour of a more holistic approach to
justice, trying to address the issues which may have led to the crime, rather than just punishing the end
result. One of the prime examples of this therapeutic approach to justice is the introduction of the
Drug Court. Governed by the Drug Court Act 1998, the Drug court has both Local court and District
court jurisdiction, and seeks to target the causes of drug related criminal behaviour. It achieves this by
ensuring that those who go through it receive treatment for their addictions, thereby reducing their
propensity to reoffend, as many crimes are motivated by the need to satisfy addictions.

A Cloud Supply Chain Management
A Cloud Supply Chain Management approach to Small Business
Small businesses are entering into a new era where older value systems and relationships are changing
into digital ecosystems with emerging complex relationships.
In the book, Being Digital, Nicholas Negroponte the Director of MIT s Media Lab introduces a simple
and powerful model for describing and predicting the effects of digital technology on information
exchange; he suggests that we re moving from a time where information is traded as atoms or Evian
bottles to a time where information is traded as bits. He suggests further that moving from atoms to
bits will have a particular sociological effect: As we interconnect ourselves, many of the values of a
nation state will give way to those of both larger and smaller electronic communities. We will
socialize in digital neighborhoods in which physical space will be irrelevant and time will play a
different role. Twenty years from now, when you look out a window, what you will see may be five
thousand miles and six time zones away (Negroponte, 2015).
Small business needs to be digitally wired due to the merging of physical boundaries with the stateless
digital technology. If a small business doesn t reinvent itself in the modern digital sphere, it will lose
its existence due to technological disruption. Embracing and integrating the modern cloud
technologies into every aspect of the business (Manufacturing, Marketing, Supply Chain, Sales and
services) is

  • 2. Abe Lincoln and Slavery Essay Abraham was born a poor farmhand boy in Kentucky, but he moved from small cabins in Kentucky, Indiana, and finally settled in Illinois. He was a farmhand for his father in these states and didn t have much exposure to slavery, although, these states did have black/slave laws. Lincoln got his first dose of slavery at the age of eighteen when he was hired to take a flatboat down to New Orleans. I quote from Lincoln: A Photobiography Lincoln would never forget the site of black men, women, and children being driven along in chains and being auctioned off like cattle. This still didn t change his opinion on slavery (he didn t have one). In 1846, after experience in law and the Illinois state legislature, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the Kansas Nebraska Act repealed the Missouri Compromise by allowing slavery in the Louisiana territory forbidden by the Compromise Lincoln was rocketed into an abolitionist standpoint. He spoke against Stephen Douglas act and campaigned for anti slavery Whigs. Lincoln spoke harshly against slavery, even going so far as to call it a cancer . In 1856 Lincoln switched to the Republican Party solely because the Whigs couldn t be absolutely against slavery as a party, while the Republicans strongly disfavored slavery. In 1858 Lincoln fought against Stephen Douglas in a battle for the senate. They held three debates, Lincoln strongly favoring abolition while Douglas stayed at a position in which he believed in white supremacy saying, I am not in favor of Negro equality . At this point in his life Lincoln was a leading abolitionist and fully fledged against slavery. Lincoln lost the election by a slim margin but didn t even stop fighting; in fact the fight had just begun. Lincoln was elected to run for the Republican president in 1860. Lincoln new that since he strongly despised slavery that he wasn t going to win any slave states; so he strongly campaigned in the north. For this action he became the president elect. Because of his election, South Carolina seceded from the union. Lincoln wanted to preserve the union without bloodshed, but that didn t happen. No set if statistics is ever entirely accurate and recent changes to the collection and publication of crime statistics indicate that politicians are aware that (Maguire 2007). The first country to gather national statistics on crime was France. In 1826 this begun with the first published analysis of those statistic being presented by Adolphe Quetelet in 1842. Crime recorded by the policed has been issued in England and Wales since 1876. There are two core approaches which are used to try and measure the level of criminal activity. Number one there is the information that is collected by criminal justice agencies, and this data contains crimes that are reported by the public or offences that come to the attention of the authorities in other ways. Method number two includes gathering evidence from sample populations about their experience of the assault, often known as victim surveys. The police collect records of the ... The British crime survey has for some time found that the feeling that the matter is too trivial is the most commonly cited reason for not reporting, or the victim felt that the police could do little about the offence. About violent crime, furthermore, the most common reason given for non reporting was that victims considered the issue to be a private matter and wished to deal with it themselves. • 4. The Pros And Cons Of Redundancy Redundancy: This is a legal term that arises where an individual is either dismissed, put on short term or lay off (Grimes and Horgan, 1988), although this is done because of the legal implications and employers don t like to be sued by employees for such reasons because of the lump sum accrued to it as damages or penalty. There are identifiable reasons for such act which could be either the employer has intended to cease to carry on business or the reason for employment of the individual no longer exists (fewer persons are required). Nonetheless, the employee (provided he has satisfied the Social Welfare Act of 1952 (as amended) must be employed by the employer for minimum of 2 years and must be insured under the Social Welfare Act) is able to establish a ground of redundancy, and it behoves the employer to justify the selection of redundancy is genuine and in a fair manner(Faulkner, 2008), if not, the damages paid is a sum payment to the employee, calculated by reference to the length of the employee s service and normal weekly wages at the date of dismissal as stipulated in the Irish Redundancy Payments ... The company has to get oriented; it needs to identify the primary objectives of the business, as well as define the scope, and finally perform both internal and external analysis of the operations. Each of these things has their place and since our company is one of the best out there, the first three have already been established. What we are here today to do is to perform the analysis portion. There are many different forms of analysis tools for the company to choose from. Some of the heavy hitters are the SWOT or strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threat tool. The MOST analysis tool focuses on the mission, the objectives, the strategies and the tactics in order for the company to meet its needs. The last tool that will be discussed here is the PEST analytical tool. PEST stands for political, economic, sociological, and technological. Breaking each one of these into more details can show the level of value each one has in the analytical world. The SWOT analysis is most often used in the beginning stages of a company. The main area of focus is the external and internal factors to identify where the best opportunities for improvement are. The SWOT tool also helps point out danger areas and where improvements can be made. The first area the tool analyze are the company s strength. • 7. Colonialism And Christianism The role colonialism has played in the involvement of Christianity practice in East Africa, is because of the impact of outside sources have determined the historical instabilities of the practice of Christianity and its branches. The expansion per year would result in the requirement to provide four times the amount of personnel, finance, church building, provision for Christian education, etc , although this all depends on the susceptibility of the Europeans and their economic, political and social influences. In Mahenge, Tanzania, there was scarcity in the ratio of priests (including high), to the congregation, compelling the administration of the Church (Green 1995: 34). The 1900 s were when a large amount of missionaries were associated with colonial authorities, and this lead many to have the assumption of missionaries and the administrators having little to no difference (Gray 1982: 60). The African missionaries run by Europeans, had an intimate dependence on the support of secular rulers (Green 1982: 65). Communication within the sub Saharan were in no sphere more significant than in the revolutionary changes that were taking place , and the independence addressed the missions, state, and also albeit for their own benefit (Green 1982: 66). Student Involvement In Higher Education Universities and colleges from corner to corner of the country face a non increasing problem of student attrition; student involvement could be a key part of decreasing this issue. Why should we get involved? A few reasons why we should get involved in college: failure to become involved in campus activities, organizations, and extracurricular activities, which promote involvement and integration of college life, can lead to higher chances of attrition for some students? • 9. The Importance Of High School Student Athletes Although some may believe that high school student athletes who do poorly in their academic courses should still be able to participate in athletic programs, I do not agree. It allows students who are capable of performing well in the classroom environment to feel as if it is not necessary to do so, for most athletes, high school sports will be as far as they will go, and furthermore the idea that sports are an extra curricular rather than a privilege has been lost. The stereotype that all athletes, specifically football players and cheerleaders, are all dumb jocks, is a very popular belief. However, this is of course not true for everyone, but some of these athletes may use this as an excuse to under preform since they believe that less is expected of them to begin with. In most cases, for any student, the amount of effort you put in will be what you receive back. If teachers in school cut slack for athletes just so the star player is able to play Friday nights, then students will never feel like they need to try because their grades are just handed to them. Athletes are expected to give 110% on the field or court, so why wouldn t the same be expected inside the classroom? While people could argue that the player is an important aspect to the team, then it should be enforced for them to pass on their own with, for example, 70 s and above. With less expected of them, they will lose the opportunity of learning the value of having a strong work ethic. Additionally, when their coaches double as their core class teachers, rules that are set in place for no pass, no play are bound to be broken. Breaking these rules only hurts the students in the long run. For most of these athletes, high school sports will be the finish line. But, if all of their time is spent focusing on sports rather than academics, when the time is up and reality sets in, they are not going to be prepared. By coaches, teachers or even principals allowing these athletes to breeze by without applying themselves or working hard, it is almost equivalent to setting them up for failure. So much time will go by wasting away on something that is fun for four short years while they could be setting out to achieve bigger and better things. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. David Moore s A Defense Of Common Sense There are certain beliefs about the world that we can conclude to be absolutely true. For Moore, these beliefs are Common Sense. It is our basic view and common sense of the world that is correct. Moore believes that you have to be justified in what you believe, and common sense is an adequate way of justifying those beliefs. In A Defense of Common Sense , Moore argues these claims in 5 different sections. These include: certain knowledge of truisms, the distinction between mental facts and physical facts, the existence of God, God creating all material things and the afterlife, how common sense propositions are to be analyzed concerning sense data, and how philosophers are confused about analyzing interactions between the external world ... Moore identifies that heading (2) of propositions differs in opinion with other philosophers. Moore splits philosophers differing in his opinion of Common Sense propositions from being wholly true into two categories. Some philosophers either deny the truth of the beliefs or deny that we know the beliefs at all. Moore uses the example of the earth has existed for many years past to point out that these other philosophers that dispute an assertion like that, do not mean it to be a simple question when as if it is true. They are abstract in their thinking, by asking more questions on the meanings of the words being asserted. For example, if you are asked if you think that humans have existed on earth for many years , the other philosophers might answer with more questions. They may ask questions like, what do you mean by exist? Moore thinks these philosophers are impractical in asking those questions. The Plight Of Low Income Individuals And Their Families Saul Alvarez English 101 The Plight of Low Income Individuals and Their Families According to the PRB article U.S. Low Income Working Families Increasing , 42.7% of people live below the poverty line, with 32.1% of them living 200% below the poverty line; this group is categorized as the low income group.(PRB) 59% of low income working families have one or more minority parents. Living in a low income community limits one s standard of living through academic gaps, the selection of food available, an ever present fear of victimization , and a lack of resources available to both children and adults. The differences in academic gaps between children and teenagers from low income neighborhoods and affluent neighborhoods present themselves in the schools the students attend. A study by the Department of Education showed that students in low income areas did not have access to the same rigorous courses, and when they did, the resources available to the low income students was lacking compared to the resources the students in high income neighborhoods had access to. In the low income areas black and Hispanic students were twice as likely to have teachers with less experience, with one or two years in the profession, compared to schools in affluent neighborhoods with well to do white students. Another thing increasing the academic gap is that only 22 percent of local districts reported offering pre kindergarten or other early learning programs for low income children. ... • 17. Legal Journals On American Law Privacy, meaning the right to be left alone, has intellectual roots tracing back to the 19th century. On December 15, 1890, Samuel D. Warren and Louis D. Brandeis had their article The Right to Privacy published in the Harvard Law Review. This article was highly regarded as one of the exceptional examples of the effect legal journals have on American law, and was the first of many future law review discussions. It is our purpose to consider whether the existing law affords a principle which can properly be invoked to protect the privacy of the individual; and if it does what the nature and extent of such protection is (Gregory, Kalven, and Epstein 1133). Warren and Brandeis stressed the importance and necessity for some form of protection for the private individual when the press is overstepping their boundaries and the indecency their gossip creates. Several decades later, in August of 1960, William L. Prosser published his article Privacy in the California Law Review. In this article he outlined the four classifications of privacy law which are as follows: 1. The second classification refers to publication of private matters, which will be the ... • 33. Joyner Lucas I M Sorry Meaning Rough Draft Essay #4 The song I chose was I m Sorry by the artist Joyner Lucas. This song has a pretty deep meaning to me. It s about a man who commits suicide. Last year around Christmas time I met this guy. He was a friend of a close family member of mine. He was always hanging around them so naturally we started talking. I m the type of person who cares about people a little too much. I started noticing that he got more quiet and more to himself. I never thought he wanted to hurt himself. I trusted him and he knew he could trust me too. Things at home weren t good. He was hurting. No kid should ever go through that (he is my age). A couple weeks later things seemed like they were getting better. He used music as his escape. Me and him would talk about different songs that we liked and how they affected how we felt. Cheesy stuff like that. Then one night at around 11 p.m. ish he sends me a link to the song I m Sorry. I listened to it. All I remember is so many things going through my head. • 34. Essay on The Immune System The Immune System The immune system is a network of organs that contain cells which recognize foreign substances and destroys them. All living organisms are exposed to harmful substances and most can protect themselves in several ways, either with physical barriers or chemicals that repel and kill them. It protects vertebrates against viruses, bacteria, fungi and other parasites. These viruses are called pathogens. The immune system is known to help in the fight against cancer. A type of white cell, which is called the killer cells, is able to identify tumour cells simply by its change in its surface membrane. Inflammatory response Diseased organisms trigger the inflammatory response off in the affected tissues. It is a non specific defence which attacks invading organisms. Blood flow increases and neutrophil cells ingest and destroy organisms. The invading organisms damage the tissues so they release prostaglandins and histamine. They not only attract neutrophil cells they also cause pain and swelling. The neutrophils in other parts of the body are attracted by poisons which are produced by organisms. They can get through the tiniest of places in the blood vessel walls to enable it to reach the injured tissues. Antibodies are proteins which are specially created to attach themselves to the invading organisms. Antibodies are recognized by their receptors, the antibody and the diseased organisms attach themselves to the neutrophils. The neutrophils form pseudopods which swallow up the organisms. Once ingested the organisms become isolated in the phagolysosome, which is a type of cell. This is known as phagocytosis. The substances which have broken down the organisms drain into the phagolysosome. The undigested parts of organisms can be either excreted at the cell membrane or stored. The non specific inflammatory response can prevent the spread of infection. However, if infection does spreads there are two defences an antibody or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. To What Extent Does Criminal Law Reflect the Moral and... To what extent does criminal law reflect the moral and ethical standards of society? Criminal law is a construct of the government, enforced through tangible measures. In a democratic society, the government is elected by the citizens, and as such, laws are generally conceived with the aim to reflect whatever ethical or moral standards are presently acceptable. However, in order to be truly effective, some legislation must circumvent current sociological viewpoints in order to create laws that are genuinely in the best interests of society. This results in a delicate balancing act, as lawmakers attempt to weigh the views of the majority against the need for laws to be both reasoned and objective. One example of law being a reflection of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The law and legal processes are utilised in various ways in order to provide a fair and just trial process for the victim and the accused, as well as the general community. There are set standards ensuring that the trial process is a fair one for all involved, as a functioning, fair and efficient justice system is the cornerstone of any true democracy. In most cases, one of the main objectives of courts and the sentences they impose is that of rehabilitation. This is evidenced through a growing move in favour of a more holistic approach to justice, trying to address the issues which may have led to the crime, rather than just punishing the end result. One of the prime examples of this therapeutic approach to justice is the introduction of the Drug Court. Governed by the Drug Court Act 1998, the Drug court has both Local court and District court jurisdiction, and seeks to target the causes of drug related criminal behaviour. It achieves this by ensuring that those who go through it receive treatment for their addictions, thereby reducing their propensity to reoffend, as many crimes are motivated by the need to satisfy addictions. ... • 38. A Cloud Supply Chain Management A Cloud Supply Chain Management approach to Small Business Small businesses are entering into a new era where older value systems and relationships are changing into digital ecosystems with emerging complex relationships. In the book, Being Digital, Nicholas Negroponte the Director of MIT s Media Lab introduces a simple and powerful model for describing and predicting the effects of digital technology on information exchange; he suggests that we re moving from a time where information is traded as atoms or Evian bottles to a time where information is traded as bits. He suggests further that moving from atoms to bits will have a particular sociological effect: As we interconnect ourselves, many of the values of a nation state will give way to those of both larger and smaller electronic communities. We will socialize in digital neighborhoods in which physical space will be irrelevant and time will play a different role. Twenty years from now, when you look out a window, what you will see may be five thousand miles and six time zones away (Negroponte, 2015). Small business needs to be digitally wired due to the merging of physical boundaries with the stateless digital technology. If a small business doesn t reinvent itself in the modern digital sphere, it will lose its existence due to technological disruption.
